“No 4. Here you are simply trying to put distance yourself from the wvw player. Many of us have absolutely no interest in spvp, yet we enjoy wvw very much. I for one do not like the repetitive, space limited, flag capture concept of spvp, so why should I have to spend time in spvp in order to enjoy wvw? Your right I shouldnt.
The points I addressed above still are valid. The thief class needs balancing.”

Here, you try to distance WvW from the rest of the game. If the thief isn’t nutso in the ‘space limited’ 5v5s, he isn’t nutso in ‘just run infinitely in any other direction and find one of your 45 allies’ spacious WvW.

Whether or not the median player has or can interrupt the powder jumping is totally irrelevant. The median player is a green-rarity longbow ranger that can’t dodge roll. If those players start influencing the balance of classes in this game we’re all doomed.

You have to spend time in sPvP because it teaches you the concepts you are wholly missing. I dare you to bring this discussion to the Profession Balance subforum, where many laughs will be had.

“1. Thief’s should not be able to spike while stealthed. No other class has this ability and it makes defense against a thief while down impossible.”

Mesmers, engineers, rangers can all spike from stealth.

“3. Thief’s are able to remain virtually invisible 100% of the time. There are various threads on the internet that confirm this. Your team needs to take the time to read a bit.”

Only at the expense of doing damage or with the powder-jumping ploy that other players can see and interrupt.

“4. It is not uncommon for a single thief to overpower and defeat 4 or 5 experienced WvW players, and that is simply not right. It demonstrates how overpowered the class is!”

It, and much of this post, demonstrates how little time WvW players spend in the sPvP arenas.

It absolutely blows my mind how much content they are willing to remove and the pace at which they do it, compared to the pace of content addition and the size of that added content.

Why the kitten are you spending your time taking away things? Make a Baby’s First Dungeon instance and put that in for the drooling idiots you think you need to cater to, don’t take away things that baffle those same idiots.

you keep on claiming 8 days. When you don’t have access to GW2’s code or know about their internal development processes, you can’t really make that kind of claim.

I can totally make that kind of claim, I’m a reverse engineer. Its my job to rip code. If it wasn’t for editing rights, and the fact they use their own custom file format, I’d try to fix them myself.

uh no. Even if you’re telling the truth about your job, that doesn’t mean you can make that kind of claim. See the second part of my comment? The one about internal development process? You don’t know how strict their review and approval process is. You don’t know what’s on their project plan. You don’t know how strict their testing criteria are.

I have posted multiple bugs regarding pvp, I have never seen a dev respond and the bugs exist to this day.

We are all aware of the multiple bugs in WvW, AND the frequency with which they are posted here, but they still exist to this day.

I will tell you the story of the last day I played this game with my IRL friend. We were doing a bit of WvW, but nobody else was online so it switched over to PvP. This pal and I had been playing since beta, and PvP was one of our favorite modes. But, since beta, there has been a bug leaving your character stuck in combat permanently. In the beta, we didn’t know wtf was going on, so it was a Ha Ha! moment. However, over time, this bug happened again and again, so I eventually got around to making a thread. It was ignored. My pal made a thread a few months later. It was ignored. On the last day I played, we were PvPing and he got the bug again.

“Jesus”, he says, obviously distressed, “how many patches are going to go by without this getting fixed? Why do we still play PvP? Why do we still play this kittening game? We have both reported this kitten! What the kitten. WHAT THE kitten.”

We both turned off the game, and that was the last time I played PvP. He has never played again. That was April.

Of course not. They made a non-change by adding EotM and when people reacted negatively, all the staff clammed up and sulked in silence until we get, a year later, someone’s bitter reply about how content we don’t like isn’t the same as no content.

Anybody with the balls to make real changes isn’t on staff, there’s no plan, there’s no commitment.

You have been playing a finished product for 2 (nearly 3!) years.

Look at this guy, hes so lost and have no idea what hes saying that he thinks the game is almost 3 years old while its not even 2.

First beta was in December of 2011, if you want to count the wider beta in February of 2012 as the start point even that is more than 2 years old (and equally close to 3 as it is 2). We weren’t all born yesterday, chum.

Heralding no fees as a redeeming quality of a criminally mismanaged game holds no water when the majority of the releases in the world do not charge a fee. Keep holding out for those greener pastures…

Yeah, I’m done with this too. Nobody to fight, or when there is, its a number 5x that of my allies. Die, lose structures, take them back when everybody leaves, they return, die, lose structures…

’Don’t play for rewards!’
‘Transfer!’

No, I honestly expected Anet to come up with a solution. If they can’t solve player distribution issues (and I don’t expect that they can, or are willing to make the drastic changes involved), I expected SOME sort of consolation prize for those who won’t ever be able to compete. Not tickets, not a You’re Last! trophy, but something at all to incentivize players to stick to their server even when losing. Instead, I just end up losing for a long time, and knowing way ahead of each loss that it is coming. My loyalty to my server hasn’t been rewarded, it has been punished. Outnumbered was nerfed, not buffed.

Forget it. I don’t play much anymore, I came back to check it out today and its the same story. Since that CDI was announced two weeks ago and didn’t appear on-time last week, it is becoming very clear that the team is some combination of understaffed, underfunded, and under the thumb of the team leads who do not give two kittens about WvW. The longer I wait, the more I expect a real change. Yet now it’s clear the long wait wasn’t because they were working on something amazing – it is because they weren’t working on anything at all.

I stopped buying gems when Season 2 was announced without any changes, the next step is no longer playing.

Short window to play in? New build? Drunk? There are many reasons to hotjoin over solo arena, but it is absurdly hard to do so.

When I start playing, I find the first 9/10 game and join. It is usually the round end, map switches and 7/10 players leave. Play 1v2 for a while, it sucks, people join and sit in spec so they can stack to the 2 side once some sucker joins and evens the teams. 400-90, round ends, 7/10 people leave.

Back to the server list, find a new 9/10, lather, rinse, repeat. No server stays populated past one map, stacking is too easy, 2v4 is too common. Solutions required, I spend as much time loading new games to get out of 1v2s as I do playing 5v5s.

Just merge the bottom servers

NonToxic.9185

Do you think that … become a midnight/early morning player?

Where did I say that? You, like me, log on at multiple times in the day. You are not online exclusively from 6:10pm to 9:10pm everyday, you are not a static entity. Adding more players who log on at multiple times in the day increases your coverage at all times in the day, yes. That IS how coverage works. You know as a player on these servers that they do not all log in from 6:10 to 9:10 either, Kaineng is more active later and Ebay is more active earlier. To say they are static is a lie, and you know it. The notion that somehow ANY server pours 100% of its playerbase into one time slot is beyond ridiculous.

“Do you think population is a fluid that takes the shape of the server you pour it into?”

To a degree, ABSOLUTELY. I play GW2 during the night sometimes, and since my server has no WvW presence at that time, I stay out of WvW. Conversely, at reset hour, I stay the hell out of EB because I know there is going to be a brief ego-war between the two commanders as they decide who gets to tag. This is an example of me, a unit of population (liquid), changing my play habits based on the dynamics of my server (container).

This is exactly what would happen after a merge. All the players who want to play at 10am, but instead play at 6pm for a chance at playing with allies, might see more people in their preferred time slot. You, who is I guess fatally allergic to zergs, would avoid the reset hour and instead play later, and then I, who wants to play later but can’t due to no allies, has another person to play with! And with these shifts comes greater coverage.

All merging us together … three servers worth of people all want to get on to the same place.

Wrong! If three servers struggle individually to queue one map, it is preposterous to suggest that combining them will fill all the maps all the time. Instead, you will have more people playing on all of the maps, more of the time. Stop saying combining three servers with minimal life will create a T1 Gold, that is false.

When Tarnished Coast had queues, there were HUNDREDS of players trying to get on the map. Spreading those players out among all the other maps left EB with a long queue, home borderland with a small queue, and enemy borderlands with no queue at all. If an actual T1 Gold doesn’t have the problem you described, how in the blue kitten would mashing Ebay and Kaineng together produce 300 new players out of thin air to queue all the maps and stop you from playing?

You are not being remotely realistic in your representation of a post-merge WvW.

There is already an option for people who don’t like being on a server with WvW populations like mine – transferring.

Yeah, what was I thinking! The answer to 5 bottom servers offering a pathetic play experience is to transfer away, leaving them more pathetic than they were before. My cash and my guild influence is burned, all the people I spent years playing with are now pen pals at best, and the problem persists for everyone who wasn’t me! Great solution.

Please stop thinking … gold league server’s style of play.

I see you still think I’m on gold! I have been in bronze for almost two years now. I know what’s good for you better than you do because I have played on several healthy servers that ARE NOT GOLD. The play experience you seek to preserve exists in a better form when the population of your server and the servers around you have more players. You can still play as you desire to, and everyone who wants to have larger scale battles has a better chance of seeing one happen. Roamers keep roaming, zergs zerg each other, and when I log on at 3 in the morning to play, there would be some other people around. How is it better to not have any options of what commander you follow, because there is only one online between all 4 maps (if any)? For that matter, you don’t have any option of what map you are playing on either, because only one has allies.

You know what? Lets turn this right around. Stop imposing your ideals of ‘empty is better’ on me, I want enemies to kill (and allies to kill them with). Stop telling me I need to forget about having a group fight more than once per week (reset), and then only for 2 hours. Stop suggesting a merge creates a 400 player full map lockup.

Stop encouraging the death of bronze servers. You want to play world war alone? Play Civilization. Eredon Terrace’s bottoming out is the ultimate in foreshadowing. Think all the players on EBay/Kaineng/AR are gonna stick around when season 3 is announced and another round of tiered transfers occur?

” No offence, but 2-manning a tower/keep is hardly pvp or WvW. It’s PvE. You’re not playing against anyone. By saying you enjoy it, just means you no interest in playing large-scale pvp. So… one guy on the ram, one guy kills guard respawns? Invigorating. ”

You are missing the point. A couple of us can flip half a servers map drawing their main force into their borderland and we can keep them busy for hours while our zerg takes over their corner of EB.

And it’s just as much fun taking a handful of people and defending when they try to do this in our bl. We aren’t spending the day pvd’ing, we are spending hours getting into fantastic small scale skirmishes without the karma train interfering.

I think WvW would be incredibly boring with a zerg on every map. The people that do enjoy that have the option to transfer to T1, there is no reason to impose that garbage on the rest of us.

1. If a couple people can flip half a servers map, there’s clearly not enough people playing on either side. If a couple people are taking half a server’s BL, they clearly have absolutely nobody on the map, nobody scouting, nobody sentried, nobody manning siege, nobody defending at all. You call that WvW?

For real. Moreover, a merge wouldn’t make this vanish completely, if people really love single player WvW they can always find it. I say this as someone who has played on Tarnished Coast, Gate of Madness, Fort Aspenwood, and Eredon Terrace. A merge of the low tiers wouldn’t pack every map full, far from it. I really don’t understand the perception that any increase in population suddenly eliminates the roaming game.

With what I know from playing on bigger servers, a merge would mean a bigger/more consistent allied fighting force in EB, a larger force of homeland defenders (who don’t vanish when the clock strikes midnight), and maybe even a group on an enemy borderland. Where is this misconception coming from that adding, say, the 40 WvW regulars from ET with the what, 45 guys from Kaineng suddenly queues every map? If the bottom servers get an EB queue on reset night, it is significant enough to be cheered in mapchat. A post-merge reset night might mean an EB queue, a borderland queue, and 2 totally open maps for any and all Lone Wolf players to get their Vet Super farm done.

I truly do not understand the objection, the roamer’s desired play experience will not disappear. Unless the desired play experience was to be able to roam solo on all 4 maps at any given time.

I think it would help the forum goers a great deal to have an idea of what the team is currently munching on, so to speak. We all know how many things were in previous CDIs that are not yet real, but we don’t know how many are perhaps being considered. To prevent a new CDI from being flooded with ‘REMEMBER THOSE COMMANDER TAG CHANGES???", let us know what is on the table and what isn’t.

Ok, good! Now I know not to type up a bunch of junk about what I would like to see in a new map. Instead, I can focus my energies on suggestions about things you are actually considering. This is only an example.

If a CDI drops before the forum goers have any idea of what is on the horizon or totally not considered, it will be hundreds of posts about irrelevant things. I am not expecting a road map, just some gentle direction. Save yourselves a migraine later, throw us a bone now.

Runes and sigils.

Being a player before a trader, I’ve always felt I have a good handle on where the game is at. PvP and WvW have been my main occupation since the start, so I saw the trends coming/going for a long time. I didn’t start investing the runes/sigils until later because I blew all my starter gold on guild influence, but once I did, it was remarkably easy to predict what was going to happen at a patch or when Twitch Player X started talking about <insert rune set>.

A good example is the April feature pack and Rune of Balthazar, I cleaned house with a speculation order on that just by paying attention. Everybody is saying it is totally nutso strong, yet the buy price is pennies? GIMME!

Unfortunately, I have trouble resisting the urge to spend all the profits on ectoplasms and crafting. I don’t think I will ever be rich.

So what does anyone here think of the disparity in wealth in the player populous?

In other games I have played, the wealth disparity was still present, but created differently. One loser spends 23 hours of a day farming bat poop in a cave because it vendors for the highest amount in the game and after 3 years of brain-frying farm he/she is loaded. No thanks! In this game, I don’t have to grind nickels to get ahead. The wealth disparity will always exist, and though I don’t mean to be insulting to any of the other players, much of it is self inflicted.

Just like we see on this forum, many people assume that I spend all day staring at the TP so I can somehow rob them of coins!!! When in reality, I am paying the most minimal amount of attention and hold some understanding of math. If they wanted to gain steady income with marginal effort, they could too. But they don’t. Are the OMEGA rich a problem? Sort of, I dunno about these multi-thousand gold precursors orders/sales… But we’re nowhere near plutocracy.

I also dislike people on my server. It is a fact of life, I don’t get along with 100% of the people I meet. It is easy enough to get rid of minor bothers like rude people, my blocklist is longer every day. Maybe there are even commanders I do not like, and I don’t have to follow them. I totally understand where you are coming from.

But when I want to dodge that noob commander on the Eternal Cattlegrounds, I don’t have the option to go and follow the other commander on my home borderland, there isn’t one. I can’t instead stick with the other medium sized band of misfits taking supply camps because there isn’t one. When that noob commander logs off and the “action” dies out so his/her 10 followers also sign out, I don’t have the option of hanging around until somebody else tags or another group forms because there often isn’t another tagger or any other groups.

We are all very capable of dealing with other players, both the good and the bad. I suspect you would be outright lying if you said you are nohomobromo close to 100% of the people on your current server. I really believe that if your server’s population went up by 1.5x overnight, you would find a way to cope with all the newbies, jerks, and roleplayers.

But nobody will ever find a way to work with a playerbase they don’t have.

no, people think they can sell it faster if they sell it for less and thats wrong.

Can’t …. believe …. someone …. just …. said …. this.

No, no, your right … people love buying stuff for NOT the lowest price. Class dismissed.

You have missed the whole point, which was that simply listing something lower does not make it sell faster. People buy at the lowest price point, but undercutting doesn’t guarantee you that lowest point unless the buyer buys at the moment the seller lists their undercut. Since anyone can undercut anybody else, the poster you quoted is correct: listing an item lower does not guarantee it sells faster. It guarantees it sells lower.

You and Jekkt are missing the point. If you list something for 4g, I undercut you and list at 3g, and the buy orders are 1g maximum, who between the two of us are going to sell first, you? No, I’m the one selling before you, because of that, I’m selling faster than you are. “Fast” has always been a subjective term, and in this case, it’s referring to the fact that my listing sells before yours does.

This is true, but it isn’t how the trading post behaves. When I buy 250 logs to craft with, it doesn’t matter that somewhere in the middle Doug undercut you who undercut Jekkt who undercut Tom who undercut the first guy to list a log, because all of the logs are bought. You sold your logs first, but we all sold our logs at the same time. That is what I took Jekkt to mean, and he is right in that regard. Undercutting doesn’t create buyers, if somebody wants my Dusk it would have sold at 999g just as easily as at 998g.

The perception he was (I suspect) trying to dispel was that a seller can undercut anybody anywhere and their item will sell in a jiffy, which is far from true in many markets.

I am hung-over, so I am almost certain this isn’t coming out as clearly as I would like.

I would lower the max players per map, forcing players from enormous servers to spread out amongst all the other servers to avoid queues.

‘Zerg battles are too laggy!’ Not anymore, half of both zergs can’t get on the map.

’There’s nobody on my server!’ Since everybody hates EotM too much to sit there while queued for hours on Big Server X, they transferred to your server so they can play the game.

‘Coverage Wars 2!!!111!!!’ Without a minority of the servers controlling the majority of players/guilds/timezones in the wake of forced player redistribution through lower map caps, all servers will have access to more of these diverse groups. Though there may always be coverage winners and losers, having some servers be definitive 24/7 powerhouses while others can’t field a man is beyond dumb.

Poor, sad 1%

Wrong, the entire population of people with legendaries (>1%), people working towards legendaries (way >1%), and anyone buying/selling/possessing materials required for a legendary (waaaaaaay >1%) would be impacted.

But you posted a picture, so you must be right.

Most of the people with legendaries got their precursors before wardrobe system happened / mystic toilet got nerfed and prices went up.
People who are working towards legendaries will be only happier to have an additional way of getting precursor – besides selling their soul to the Devil.
If TP manipulators get screwed, that’s only to the better.

Your rock solid argument involves scary, villainous TP lords making mad profits off of this extensive list of items made account-bound when crafted, t6 mats that every single player in the game encounters, and skill points/laurels/badges/karma/relics/world completion only attainable by playing. At no point do you admit significantly more people than you implied would be affected, instead pointing out that the wardrobe exists (which doesn’t make a lick of difference to anyone trying to create a legendary) as though it reinforces your notion that this process couldn’t upset a great deal of players and should be added ASAP with no possible reason for careful planning.

Or maybe you are saying that the precursor listings on the TP are manipulated, despite the econo dev stating that is not the case?

Since this is off-topic, the last word is: keep your day job, you’re not very good at this.

no, people think they can sell it faster if they sell it for less and thats wrong.

Can’t …. believe …. someone …. just …. said ….

It could change and upset the whole GW2 market and in return also disappoint many players.

Poor, sad 1%

Wrong, the entire population of people with legendaries (>1%), people working towards legendaries (way >1%), and anyone buying/selling/possessing materials required for a legendary (waaaaaaay >1%) would be impacted.

But you posted a picture, so you must be right.

Why does CHINA gw2 have stuff NA Gw2 doesnt?

For that matter, why does anything in any other country have different stuff?

Local regulations. Not just China, many games are modified for release in Germany, Australia, gasp and even North America. You have been missing out on Panty Hunt mode in all your favorite localized jrpg releases.

no, people think they can sell it faster if they sell it for less and thats wrong. if somebody wants an item he will buy it for the selling price. usually the ones selling it for much lower are the ones who got it as drops and dont care about flip marging.

What is this series of random words? It almost looks like you’re trying to say something, but trying to understand it makes my head hurt.

If you don’t stare at your sell order all the time, you won’t be frustrated by things like this. The best real-life market advice I have ever gotten was ‘set and forget’, when you item sells eventually you are 100% free of the feelings that caused you to make your post.

That only works if you don’t need CASH now. I mean I can’t just go up and call JG Wentworth annuity payments instead.

The point being sell and forget only works for people who are rich enough to not need more in the short term. Most players are not in that position.

I am at a loss. You need cash now, but I assume need more cash than the Sell-it-Now option permits? A life of crime is the only answer to your problem.

Something that concerns me happened when The Tiger was talking about the weapon set rewards. She said “we got” the weapon sets, referring to herself as well, and that they were happy to be able to offer these rewards this time around.

Does that mean the poor WvW team has been asking for changes/better rewards/attention this whole time, only to be shut down by the boss? That would be depressing, because its the WvW team taking all the flak.

Why do you need another CDI?

in WvW

NonToxic.9185

Staff changes, threads page, good ideas that fell on deaf old ears might strike a chord with new ones. Though there have been good ideas (both in the previous CDIs and in general foruming), there have also been many bad ones, and the community reacts with the same “BEST IDEA/WORST IDEA” polarity every time. I understand the sentiment that the old threads have good ideas that are yet to become reality, but I also understand the approach to a new CDI: players will remember the best ideas and repost them, bad ideas will be forgotten, and too-long-didn’t-read goofballs won’t breach the many pages of conversation to add in their spam of the day.

I am cautiously optimistic.

Fledgling Idea: Organized Handicap Matches

in WvW

Posted by: NonToxic.9185

NonToxic.9185

With two of the issues from Season/tournament/9weeksentence 2 in mind and a CDI on the way to inspire creative thought, here’s something:

Handicap matches like those found in the ancient art of entertainment wrestling. In these matches, one team fights another team that has numerical superiority. Simplified, this proposed idea is an official 2v1 match. No red, only one server as blue vs 2 servers as green.

The 2 green servers might be a tier 2 and a tier 3 while the blue server is a tier 1. I do not have access to any population data, so I don’t know if that is at all feasible, but it serves as an example of what I mean. One stronger, advantaged server vs two smaller ones.

Thinking historically, the complaints about being 2v1’d by the 1 are probably fair: it shouldn’t be their closest competitors who form the 2 against them, for the 2 closest are definitely stronger than the 1 leader. There were also complaints by people of the 2 servers that this was lame or scummy. A structured version of this handicap match solves both – it is officially sanctioned (so the 2 servers should really try and stick it to the 1) and it is a match where the 1 is a true juggernaut in comparison to the 2 (so it will remain a close fight despite the 2 enemies).

There is also the matter of match stagnation – something I think this obliterates. If a server is tired of facing the same opponents every other week, this match idea is a shot of variety. Not only will the guilds and players be very different from what is normally seen in the ‘balanced’ match-ups, but the tactics too; a low tiered server specializing in guerrilla warfare paired with a guild-heavy raid server against a population behemoth would surely involve some new strategies!

Thoughts? In before ’someone would abuse it by mass transferring to a green server on a moments notice at reset night!!!!" doomsayers.

Can’t be red vs blue for copyright reasons

EDIT: I should add that I don’t think it would be good to share the chats, keep map chat server specific (to avoid the textspam or weekend chatter wrecking things) and that the two green servers shouldn’t be able to see their allies’ player dots or anything exceptional. Just two servers who are, for the purposes of point totals and damage calculation, allies.

Saved from page 3.

When I learned I would have to register again to post on the new matchup forums, I decided I would just skip the bad mouthing and go straight to pretending those forums don’t exist. I don’t think I’m alone, only ~3 of the matchups even get new threads anymore. And to think some people cite ‘removal of matchup forum’ as their main frustration…

BUT BACK TO THE THREAD, we’re out of season 2 now so our server can start having fun again. Fun means training up all the newbies and green guilds before they leave! Transfer now, lessons are free!

Predicted Final for NA Bronze

But what happened to your numbers? At first, you guys clearly outweighed us in population, and not just from the achievement hunters either. But it’s like you burned out early, and that’s a shame.

We never outweighed you, that was a huge joke to us. On the same day that this recruitment thread was started, you guys had a big old mob roaming about Eternal Battlegrounds dropping the Outnumbered buff on us. Every reset night you have a bunch of guys in our borderland, dropping catas constantly at Bay, while still having a group presence in Eternal Battlegrounds. ET (tries to) defends those two maps with the same group of people.

I, and others, stopped playing when it became clear the struggle was for naught. I would keep trying if I expected improvements or changes later on, but I was in ‘keep trying!’ mode all through our rough rump roast that was Season 2. Keep trying became why bother this season. I’m on my way out from the game in general, only forum stalking to see if there really is the ‘big announcement’ coming.

What started the WvW decline

All things are in a constant state of decline. There has simply been -nothing- put in place to reverse/halt/slow the decline of WvW. The most significant changes the mode sees are in population migrations, which almost certainly work to hasten the decline (as T1 gets pumped full of grouchy babies and Ts1-X get drained).

And with China being their main focus now… the “blizzard soon” treatment wvw is getting will be going into the “half life 3 soon” zone imo.

I would have agreed with this last year, but now…

Let me phrase it this way: if/when Half Life 3 arrives, I have no doubt it will be an incredible experience. Be it graphics, shootin’ fights, another story twist, there will be a handful of ‘Wow!!!’, there will be a future in the mod scene, there will be replayability. If Actiblizzion drop another expac, it will have new lands to explore, new classes, new mounts, new bells and whistles (none of which will make me subscribe again, but I digress).

I have no confidence in Anet to deliver anything of this grade. I fully expect to see a hyped up WvW Feature Pack announced 4 months in advance of its implementation, where they slowly reveal over those 4 months:

Feature #1: No more getting stuck in waypoints! (players still report getting stuck in waypoints)
Feature #2: Commander tags now come in different colors! (each color costs 400g)
Feature #3: Dreaming Bay removed.
Feature #4: Season 3 announced!
