I want a more direct solution.

Hey skins team, can we PUHLEEZE stop putting out skins that make dialog bubbles and talk loud? If that player wants to hear the same ~kneeslapper~ of a joke 60 times an hour, fine. But grant mercy to every other player. A line of speech is not the same as a sound effect.

You don’t have to make something LOUDER and BRIGHTER than everything else to make it unique and good.

This will probably be my last post on these forums.

Today was a big day, my dad finally got his stumbling nooby of a character to a level that he could WvW in. This was a tremendous achievement for an old fart like him, and for my sister (who got him to play) and I, an opportunity to finally bring him into the real game, the meat and the potatoes. No longer would he be bored killing centaurs, he could (try to) kill players! Take objectives, build seige, have great fights, all the stuff that we had loved doing for years!

There were no commanders on. A handful of players, mostly afk. EBG had an enemy zerg, and though it was funny watching him try to fight it alone, within 20 minutes he was wondering what to do. And with no commanders, no allies, and only 2 80s and a newbie, we ran out of do-able things pretty fast.

He got bored with the end-game super war mode that entertained us for years in under an hour because there were so few players on the only populated map. If a totally new player can’t even stay entertained, no wonder I’ve felt so kitten bored in this game for so long.

On the value of "luxury" rewards

Yet how can the game give all people more gold without also raising the prices on the trading post, unless it simultaneously increases the drops of everything by a large amount.

What happens in that situation? Everyone has a lot of gold. All items drop so frequently that they flood the trading post and prices crash. You can buy everything you want for a few silver or at most a gold or two.

And then what? Maybe you’ll be happy with that but will the majority of players be happy when everything that they get as a drop is essentially worthless and there is nothing to strive for? The trading post is flooded with more items than people want to buy? I can’t see that’s that’s a healthy MMO at all.

Bingo bango bongo. Having seen this movie a couple of times (I’m old), the final scene is usually a “Thank you for your time, but we are closing our doors”.

To the notion mentioned elsewhere that I became a TP player because I was envious, no. I became a TP player because games where you CAN play the TP like this are the only healthy ones. When typical theories of basic economics are actually working as they should, magic happens. In this case, the magic is a healthy velocity and volume of trading, with the side effect of some coin in my purse.

If I can’t “game” the TP, it is usually because the TP is broken and the game is dying to bot cancer or poor currency management choices.

I might not have expressed my point clearly. I don’t think we should get everything for free (why is that always the go-to counter argument?) nor should rewards be increased across the board. I like the cash shop model because in theory it’s supposed to let you pay for the content you like instead of paying a flat, mandatory “take it or leave it” fee. In theory. This game however, seems to only monetize cosmetics. Which means that as a person who derives enjoyment from cosmetics (putting together outfits and collecting pets) in the games they play, I’m expected to either spend all my time farming gold or pay way, way, way more than my fair share. Since the developers know that very few people can play the market and grinding is extremely off-putting after a certain point, they count on players like me becoming whales. Yes, the company needs to make money and I’m alright with setting aside a monthly stipend for it but the truth is, that gets me almost nothing whether it comes to items or gem -> gold conversion. While in other games, it either gives me the whole experience or enough to make it worth my time.

No problem, one could say. I will just supplement that real cash with in-game one that I farm up. Here comes the catch. The activity most profitable is not playing the game but playing a sort of stock-market mini game within it. The second or third most profitable activities? Content that is simple, repeatable and requires as little attention or effort as possible. Like parking characters at JP chests. Logging in for laurel rewards, buying mats with them, cashing in. Or chest farming in Silverwastes. Players are encouraged to interact with the game as little as possible. Dungeons, fractals, jumping puzzles, events all around the world. Not profitable.

I do those things regardless because I find them fun. However, the game doesn’t reward me for them nearly as handsomely as it rewards the first two groups so, even with real money investment, I fall behind and everything ends up feeling out of reach. I could dedicate more time to grinding or learning market trends then exploiting them but I don’t want to. Not because I want everything for free or right this very instant but because my time is limited (by my own choosing, of course) and I think too much of it is already taken up by things I don’t enjoy. Perhaps if the currently marginalized activities got a bit of reward boost? Or more rewards tied specifically to them.

Again, not blaming the game for this or asking Arenanet to do things differently. I’m just an average gamer with average time and average skill and little understanding of game design. Just wanted to comment to show the viewpoint of someone like me. Thank you for the detailed answers from all of you!

I understand what you’re saying, I just don’t see the problem. The activity that requires the most effort out of me (I have spreadsheets showing prices on stuff that tells me when to buy and sell, looking up the price of Beets every 12 hours isn’t exactly a thrill) pays me, arguably, the most. What’s wrong with that?

When I’ve got my orders in, I do boring farm like Mad King’s Lab. I used to run the champ train in Queensdale back in the day, I farm in zones where I’m more likely to get valuable drops, I open all my pvp loot boxes on a level 45 character to get as much linen as possible. What is wrong with me doing the stuff that gets me the most $$$ value for my time?

When I played WvW almost exclusively, I made no money. The loot is stinky, the drops (on a dead server) were rare, upgrades at that time cost gold, etc. Doing what you find fun is almost NEVER the best way to make money. If it was, everybody would be rich. Or rather, everyone who enjoys that fun activity would be rich. I didn’t get any payment for my time in the earlier days of PvP before it paid anything, and that was thousands of hours.

Because I want to make money, I do some un-fun things. The rest of my time in the game (admittedly little since the xpac dropped) is spent doing fun things. I would say 3/4 of my gold still comes from doing ‘fun’ things, though the less I play the less true that becomes.

When dungeons were profitable, people ran that grind all the time. Those people made a bunch of money.

If doing map events suddenly became the most profitable (and fun?) thing to do, you would still have a problem, probably even a bigger one. When everyone gets to do the most profitable thing all day, nobody actually gets rich. They just get inflated.

3.) A huge non-pro community actively playing that take the game serious enough to watch the best of the best do what they enjoy doing, presented in a way that the non-pro’s can learn from

You hit it square on here, but for the wrong reasons I think. Our problem isn’t simply that it is boring to spectate druid vs druid on a point, but rather, the VAST majority of the GW2 community doesn’t even know what a point is. There is a far larger fundamental issue in the fact that of the millions of players (if stats are to be believed), the overwhelming majority of them don’t play pvp, never have played pvp, have no interest in doing so, and oftentimes villainize pvp players (‘OMG they are all foul-mouth bullies’).

In Dota 2, every single player is playing the same game as the pros are. Whether they be the most casual or hardest core, they are playing on the same map with the same rulesets and objectives.

In GW2, most players don’t know the rules of pvp, and they have no incentive to start learning.

I hurt my arm at work a year ago and had a couple of miserable months like this, I feel you.

I gave up on doing PvP and WvW, because that is just frustrating with one hand. However, dungeons and world bosses are fine. Having a party helps, but as long as you’re not leading the charge it is pretty easy to play with only the mouse. I recommend a swap to a ranged weapon so you don’t have to move as often.

LMB+RMB to move. Usually I stop moving a little bit before my allies, so they get creep aggro because turning to run away is doubly hard for the one-handed person. Click some skills, watch stuff die.

Type out a couple of messages ahead of time like ‘im going afk’ or ‘i need help!’ or whatever and send them to an empty chat. If you need them later, just press enter, then up arrow to scroll through your old messages and re-send them.

Jump puzzles and map completion are probably off the table for now though!

Golds Deflation

NonToxic.9185

Right now, we have mat sinks, not gold sinks, I never know why people call it gold sinks when we are not losing golds in the market. Mats demand increased and so is the price, that’s how most of you here are making your money, by putting them on TP.

The main source of raw golds were from dungeons and then followed by gem conversion (I believe). Now, the dungeons are nerfed and thus the amount of golds flowing into the market have greatly reduced.

Yes, you may still be earning money via trading but that is nothing more than golds exchanging hands. The amount of golds weren’t increasing that much while the mats cost is increasing a lot more. Furthermore, not everyone is spending golds, there are always golds hoarder and also market investor (flipping tp).

In a way, I feel anet is intentionally making people to choose between farming mats to trade and trading gems for golds. However, with this much mats sink, it is more of the latter.

I’m not so sure that the amount of gold has greatly decreased. There’s one thing they added to the game, Shiny Bauble, worth 30 silver at a NPC vendor. Now that’s not a lot, but it’s game wide to all the players doing events in the right areas. That gold faucet that was only for dungeon runners seems, with this item, to have been redistributed to all players as a steady drip, drip of gold incoming rather than a chunk only to dungeoners.

Edit: wiki only shows it as a map reward in the old areas, but it’s a map reward for at least one HoT map also.

There is also the 2% account-wide gold increase with every monthly chest. I’m sure that across all the players, that one is adding up.

One thing my flipping history, that i posted earlier, demonstrates, is that people just make the wrong choices when selling their loot.

Which goes back to what I was saying about the current system being unfair to players who lack the skill, knowledge, or interest in competing on the TP. Again, it’s like having one class that can dominate if played right, but is worthless when played poorly, and makes all other classes worthless in comparison, so if you do not enjoy the god-class, too bad, you’re playing the god-class anyways or getting left in the dust.

Man, when you say stuff like this it gets really hard to take you seriously. It is not like a god-class. Rather, this is like never learning how to complete Sorrow’s Furnace and complaining that all the people who DID learn are somehow unfairly advantaged over you. You could google this junk just like the rest, but you didn’t/don’t.

Wanze hit the nail straight on the head when he described it as a matter of player-choice errors.

“Conditions currently on you are ineffective when your health is above the threshold”
Health Threshold: 90%

much better right? but then eles may cry. so we lower the health threshold a bit to compensate?

“Conditions currently on you are ineffective when your health is above the threshold”

there you go.

Business Model Clarification

We want to be clear about our business model for future expansions now that we are approaching our first paid expansion for Guild Wars 2. We believe that to keep the game dynamic and vibrant with a constantly growing community, it should be as easy as possible for new players to get into Guild Wars 2. For Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we didn’t want the core game’s price to be a factor in a new player’s decision to begin playing Guild Wars 2. In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.

Ok! You guys keep making the game, I’ll come back in 8 years and buy the battlechest version for one price. You’re not getting $50 out of me every time you release a class.

@the Server Loyalty idea:

I think I am one of the only chumps left on ET, rounding out the 10 total (2 of which are even in this thread) players remaining. Server loyalty? Server loyalty means watching all the guilds come, recruit everybody, and then transfer. 3 years in a row. Server loyalty means that my WvW playtime has been met with fewer bags, less karma, less gold, and more expenses than any other tier. Server loyalty is logging on and waiting/searching for teammates 6 days of the week.

Server loyalty has roasted my butt so badly that I’m scouring every bit of info on the expansion in the desperate hope that somewhere, something is hidden inside about changes to this garbage server matchup system.

It was cool the be the hardcore server for a while, it was hilarious to see the bottoming out after every season, but it is purely crushing to still be in the same kitten spot after all this time. Server loyalty is the biggest joke in this game; all it has brought me is trouble, and everybody without it is rolling in bags.

Why I'm >not< hyped for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NonToxic.9185

NonToxic.9185

I’m waiting for the section of the expansion announcements where they detail all the hand health, QoL, and bug fixes that players have been asking for since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. If there isn’t a bulk use/open option in the expansion, I won’t buy it. This one simple concept wouldn’t require uprooting all that is known about the game code, and yet it would improve achievements, loot, and let me PLAY the darn game longer.

Yet little changes like this have gone totally ignored for ages (a change that improves almost every part of the game!), and I see nothing to tell me that attitude has shifted. That is why I’m not hyped about HoT. The boss fights and dungeons are beaten to death, and I don’t expect any new fights introduced in the expansion to last long before they too are beaten to death, but that’s fine! Or rather, it would be fine if they also weren’t plagued by the same glitches, bugs, and generally frustrating issues present in this game today.

I would buy a QoL patch! If you sold me Heart of Fixes, I would pay retail price for this thing. It would let me PvP and WvW and get back to doing the things in the game that are ignored, but still modestly entertaining (compared to the 100000th run of Citadel). But I don’t see anything in this expansion that will fix my troubles! I see more Living Story stuff, which might pay the bills, but I have ignored most of it so far. My time in the game is spent doing the OTHER 50% of it, the part that isn’t cutscene driven and instanced.

There’s nothing announced in this expansion that addresses the ever-present problems of the other half. Moreover, I’m skeptical about the changes they HAVE announced, because they once announced that they had fixed the waypointing bug.

The same is expected with everyone else.If you are not doing your job as thief which means to stealth people when it is needed and make it in a problem the you will be kicked out right away.

Yeah, nobody gets kicked unjustly ever! In fact, I only kick newbies, people that don’t equip banners when I tell them to, people who aren’t supporting the group, people who don’t listen, people with less than 500 AP, people I don’t like, people who talk back…

Ok, we will assume that GW2 isn’t even good enough to comepte vs other F2P titles. Now ask yourself, why in the world would Anet bother do anything if they get more profit than almost every single western MMO title? the game has a really healthy population compared to most other MMOs. They are gaining millions of dollars every year. And the industry has almost no compitition. All the games that have been released during the last years, have been flops more or less. Final Fantasy is a good title but again it is focused on gear/stat progression and therefore would have quite the different crowd.

It is not only GW2 being not so statisfying. The MMO market in genereal is empty more or less and companies are struggling to keep their titles alive.

I don’t know why any of this is my problem, unless you are roundabout agreeing with me. I actually don’t know.

They should do something about it because they won’t remain profitable for long if they don’t. Competition might be sputtering in one field, but you will have to trust me that there are other games on the planet to play.

To snipe one bit of your post though:

Final Fantasy is a good title but again it is focused on gear/stat progression and therefore would have quite the different crowd.

I don’t know what game you’re playing, this one is a gear grind too. The gear grind is different, in that the linear progression grind like that of the FF games is more constant and impactful, but GW2 is a gear grind game too.

Why do I make gold? To buy silk. Why do I buy silk? To craft gear.

Why do I run dungeons? To get tokens. Why do I get tokens? To buy exotics to forge for a precursor, to sell for gold(gear) or make a legendary(gear).

Why do I play WvW? To kill some enemies. Why do I kill enemies? To get their bags. Why do I want their bags? For the gold inside. Why do I want gold? To buy silk. Why do I buy silk? Gear.

Do I really need the gear? No, I can play in exotics and exotics are easy enough to come by. But what do I do in the exotics? Run dungeons for money and tokens that I buy _ with?

People have made this game more than it is, and I mean that in a good way. A fun guild and talkative friends are fun to play with. But the game without these people is an RNG slog for the end game: a legendary.

Or is there some other end-game I’m missing? The ignored WvW mode perhaps? I am venting now, so I might as well finish. I reached the end of my PvP reward track today and then I stared at the other tracks and thought ‘I don’t need any of this stuff…‘. The only reason to start a new track is for the weapon chests, which I open as greatswords and throw into the forge before saying ’Shucks, another pearl sword’.

I’m so darn bored.

I already find myself logging in, checking the BLTP, and then sort of shuffling my inventory until I log off. If the market hasn’t moved, my guild isn’t hosting an event, or there’s nothing going on in WvW, I’ve got nothing to do.

Another year of that? I’m going to be leaving. I suspect it will be like last year, where they release some piddly crap and a hyped up balance and ‘feature’ patch that I come back to check out. Will next year’s ‘feature pack’ have enough to make me check it out again after this year’s Massive Shrug? That’s the question. The path of least resistance is what’s holding me here for now.

My forum posting has gone up like 500% in the last two weeks because I’m so kitten bored in-game.

Exactly the problem. People are used to a hype-release cycle for casuals and gear grinds for hardcore. GW2 is deliberately a different type of game. We’ve gotten quite a bit – not an expansion’s worth, but close – but since we haven’t had the expansion hype people aren’t feeling as excited about it.

No, that’s not because of their lack of PR or hypemachine, it’s because that is recycled. Silverwastes isn’t new, it is WvW ideas with AI mobs sprinkled around. As a player that actually played the whole game instead of sticking to a niche, I’m not excited about that because it isn’t exciting, not because Neoseeker didn’t write an article about it. A couple of new enemy models, 2 hours worth of talking heads, and a constantly reworked daily system isn’t ‘close to’ an expansion.

You’re right, GW2 IS a different type of game – one that releases content more slowly than some F2P competitors, despite the same focus on microtransactions. I’m bored because I’m bored, not because they didn’t add grind. They are very good at adding grind (ascended, mawdrey, legendaries), but if I finally do grind out that legendary, it will be the same legendary I saw some dude wearing in 2013. And that will be BORING.

PvE is pure profit, I can play in the Silverwastes for hours and get yellows on yellows, silver after silver from events and defends and escorts I only saw on the minimap. I play and play and play and at the end of the day, I am 30-40g richer.

WvW is not pure profit. I wipe a zerg for 8 bags and some XP, I walk to the keep and start a waypoint upgrade. I am at -75 silver. I play and play and play and play and at the end of the day, if it is A: a busy day for my server, I make a modest profit (see: less than SW, more than general PvE, leaps above PvP). If it is B: a normal day for my server (see: some wipes, some fights, some upgrades, some downtime), I might break even. If it is C: a bad day for my server (see: enemy guild zerg is crushing home borderland, enemy general zerg is outnumbering eternal, defenders in the enemy borderland wipe my camp runs), I make nothing or I lose money.

I don’t understand why there is opposition to loot balancing. You don’t get paid ANYWHERE near enough for the time you invest in your game mode vs. a player running dungeons or farming SW for the same portion of time. You don’t have the sPvP player excuse where if you bring in rewards, the mode is gonna be polluted by afking newbies.

Stop debating this garbage and demand the loot you should be getting. That the overflow mode pays 3-5x what you get in actual WvW should be evidence enough. And I don’t mean in the k-train, I mean on a per-flip basis for equal objectives. Objectives which, in real WvW, are DEFENDED.

Like DanGan here, who once again completely misses the point and spouts 5 paragraphs of nonsense.

Will this person who has made no actual attempt at discussion (bandwagoning doesn’t count) either show himself out or make an actual attempt?

The point is that OP way overstepped in the point he was trying to make, and that this is a two-way discussion.

PS: bandwagoning a post that fails to refute (deliberate avoidance?) any points brought up in the previous round of discussion may not be the best move either.

Sure! You are talking about something nobody has raised as an issue, you continually convolute the point that is being made otherwise by ignoring it to steer towards your morass of agenda text. No more than you can argue with a dictionary can you debate the meaning of a term that was given meaning by something other than yourself with an authority different than your own.

Meta doesn’t mean what you want it to, it means what it means. And the incorrect application of the term and related terms is what the thread is about, not your definition of success or destruction or how you think the players feel, all of that is completely irrelevant.

He didn’t overstep anything, you and most of the other posters just sniped 3 or 4 words from the original post and are now so far from the real intention of the OP that you can’t see it for the thick fog of misdirection. Evidence: every post poor Wind makes has a clear purpose, and every response is off on a different tangent like a skritt after a shiny.

Feel free to reply, I won’t. If I could no-bump this thread I would, but my old post was infracted and now sits in your quote without context so I thought I should make myself clear. You can feel however you want, you are missing the point over and over.

Log-in Reward tied to character

Pressing the Save For Later button on your daily log-in reward saves the reward for later…

But specifically on the character it was clicked on! I lost my day 2 reward on my engineer because the daily rolled over while I was crafting on him and I didn’t play him again until today, when I got both rewards.

I think this is the type of thing that would be fixed when the log-in reward UI becomes accessible to the players, but since that doesn’t exist yet…

Why should I pay?

Just transfer to a tier with servers that are relatively balanced. Your experience will be much better.

Until they collapse at random and shuffle to the bottom where you have to transfer again to escape!

Why anyone is in hotjoin still baffles me.

So they can bring a friend, 2v1 off a point after stacking the teams to 5v4 and still win. There is an earlier poster in this very thread who says ‘I just wanna kill people and not care about builds or points or anything’, ie. he doesn’t care if the score ends 500-25 as long as he gets his frags. Let this man play – in hotjoin.

[TP] What's causing the surge in Ecto supply?

My guess is that, along with the increased farm, there are simply more players done with their gear and craft grind who are no longer buying the ectos. The hardcore players are post-ecto, they’re after lodestones or Giants Eyes or the other rare, more scarce items.

Oh you guys ><

Your essential misunderstanding is your insistence that I’m telling you how you must play the game. I’m not at all, I’m telling you that you’re describing it in the wrong way.

Why do you keep saying that I’m insisting you change the way you want to play? At worst I’m arguing that some of the attitudes associated with it are destructive, but even that is not a demand, maybe unsolicited advice.

This is the manner in which the PHIW crowd becomes villainous. One misunderstands, another comes to his misunderstood defence, more pile in to get a shot in at you, The Evil One who wants to manipulate play, and eventually you’re standing in front of a wrong-direction hydra of an argument you didn’t want to start in the first place. They feel vindicated in the confusion, your point is lost in the muck.

Good info. I don’t think anybody is going to stop calling it that, though.

Nope! People still whine about getting ‘ganked’ (gang killed) by one person, people try to ‘k-train’ (karma train) events that don’t award karma, and others decry the ‘P2W’ nature of some cosmetic items…

Urban Dictionary needs a Gaming section.

NECROBUMP FOR WINTERSDAY

Some of the rewards from the Wintersday events are a box, which I open to get 2 more boxes and a bag, which I open to get 2 more bags and a bunch of trash that I have to click 4 times each to sell on the BLTP.

Hand health is going BACKWARDS in this game, not forward.

Wvw (EotM) Questions

in WvW

Posted by: NonToxic.9185

NonToxic.9185

EotM runs a series of different instances as players from the 3 servers fill it up. Changing to a new server will not prevent you from ever encountering these dead instances, they are a natural result as players come and go. Sometimes leaving the mists and coming back will put you in a new instance, sometimes it will put you back into your old instance (which needs even more players, since you left!).

EotM was not intended to be a go-to mode, it is there to allow people to play if their normal WvW lands are full.

Cost-efficiency: promoting t5 or buying t6?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NonToxic.9185

Neither of these is particularly cost efficient. At the time of writing, it is less inefficient to promote T5s, but movements in the prices mean buying straight T6 could be better tomorrow.

If you have to ask this question, I think the market will eat you alive.
