Well, you’re not supposed to change the skin of every weapon when you go it dropped, just because you can. As I said … usually the higher one counts, I think.

I wouldn’t want my equipment to be blue because I used blue skins on my exotic stuff, but I also wouldn’t want my legendary to be exotic because I changed its stats.

Actually, it gives them + 1s swiftness duration if you already have swiftness. + 1s because it pulses each second. So if you don’t have swiftness it goes 0s -> 8s --> 7s -> 8s --> 7s -> 8s … If it’d give + 8s every pulse, it’d be
0s -> 8s --> 7s -> 15s --> 14s -> 22s --> 21s -> 29s --> 28s -> 36s Swiftness.
And that’s simply why it only gives you one additional second when you already have swiftness. With 30% boon duration, it’d become 48s swiftness duration with a 15s CD.

Be happy that it actually grants you one additional second, temporal curtain voids if you have any swiftness on you.

It’s not a bug, but a patchfix.

Mesmer can kill with the focus in three ways:

  1. Phantasm (#5)
  2. Focus pull off cliff (#4-2)
  3. Reflect trait (Insp VIII)

I know that 1. is not credited. None of phantasms kills are credited to your weapon; that’s the reason I have sword full (used from 80+) but not full GS (used from 15+).

Afaik elementalist is a good class to get focus kills.

Remember that elementalist barely has supportive spells beyond #6. Its supporting abilities come from water skills #1~5 and traits (and switching elements). For utility spells you can choose what you want. I like glyph of storms, some like shields for survival, but elemental summoning is nice, too.

If you’re alone, switch to earth’s scepter dagger with condition food.

Just drag the vendors shop menu away from your mouse once … the dialogue pops up at the same position … for every vendor.

And then … do you talk to NPCs with doubleclick ? I didn’t even know that this is possible. Better use [F] or right mouse. Your issue has never once happend to me.

There’s a mechanic in this game already. It’s called “cool down”. It prevent you from contiuously spamming one skill.

If you want to further prevent two phantasms of the same kind, it’d equal to lengthen their cooldown by factor 3. Seriously, I hope they implement this system, let mesmers carry three weapon sets (to get three different phantasms) and increase all other classes cooldowns by factor three. And for the Thief, increase Initiative consumption by factor 3.

They are on 18-20s cd.

You can get duelists on a 12s cooldown, and 3 out isn’t 3x the cd time, it’s only 2x the cd time since the first one isn’t already on cooldown. L2Math

So you mean a specialized mesmer with at least 45 trait points reserved just needs 27s to call three duelists and they’ll burst all enemies down? So the opponent just has to stand there for 27s and not touch and of the duelists? Yeah, better nerf them.

I guess alot ppl here out themself of being an **** and waiting in groups in that JP to kill those how want to finish the JP peacefully. That’s why they want to keep it ingame.

Seriously, you can force pvp players to fight some NPCs (mobs) and jump a bit outside of their territory. But you shouldn’t force pve players to fight each other. Especially if there’re sadistic groups which stay there solely to prevent others from completing this.

It took me like 1.5h to get all kites except FotM and WvW. And it took me like 2h to get the WvW one. That’s not what I call “equal”. I want all PvP/ WvW guys to have to run Arah p4 every patch, please.

Actually this is a good balance, but has been suggested before (at least once by myself).
Converting the stacks into another condition would cause too many problems and has been suggested before. There were also suggestions that the 26th bleed would replace the weakest one and the replaces one would deal it’s damage instantly. This also brings problems.

The only functioning suggestion is the the one of this thread. It sure would create burst damages, but why making you immune to bleed, like right now? Given infinite time a “convert cap stacks to direct damage” wouldn’t cause more damage than “infinite bleeding stacks”. It’d also encourage teamplay in dungeons contrary to the current concept “only get one bleeder into the party”.

The only real problem is Necro’s Epidemic. Well, this thread’s suggestion would certainly overpower it, but not as much as others.

has always been working. But there was a bug which disabled various effects from various equips upon being downed. I believe that’s been fixed by some while now.

But here remember than a two-handed giver’s weapon grants 10% while two one-handed weapons give 20%.

If you’d like a better chance to get through the pvp JPs, they’ve made some fountains available that will make you entirely invisible for a few minutes.

This doesn’t help when enemies are waiting at the start of the JP. Nor it help you once you reach the torch part … basically it only help you for like 20% of the JP, and furthermore, sometimes enemies wait especially there to hunt those who want to be left alone.

100 Ori Pick cost 4s; let’s say a player uses them 20×3 times a day. Making it 2s4 per day saved; costed 800 gems

Using a waypoint costs average … 2.9s; let’s say a player farms bosses and uses waypoints 15 times a day. Making 43s5 pre day.

That’s 18.125 times that much. So a cash# items for negating WP cost should cost ~14,500 gems.

There has already been a change with “color of the name will now be taken from …”. I don’t think they’ll change it back. I think it takes the higher one. My low karma skinned items are still exotic colored.

Yes, it’s awkward to have zenith skins over your weapons, which makes them appear exotic, but that’s your fault. To check ones quality just throw it into the mystic forge. Then you can see which other items (with their quality) are showing up.

There are issues when you split the party and create multiple instances (multiple instance owners in a single party). This is not an issue for ANet, but the players. Do not create instances and then invite players, they may have instances by themselves. If you meet such an issue, everyone leaves the instance and waits 5 mins (then an empty instance will be closed).

I don’t really get your bug or question or so, but here’s the trivia for any instances

  • The one who opens the instance is the instance owner.
  • If the instance is closed, anyone will be kicked.
  • Anyone kicked from or left the party will automatically kicked from the instance.
  • If the instance owner is kicked or left the party, the instance will be closed (?)
  • Anyone from the party who is on the map gets an invitation for joining the instance upon players relog, waypoint usage or when the instance is initially opened.
  • If the instance owner changes character or leaves the area of the instance, the instance will be closed.
  • You can not open an instance while another one is still opened by the party.
  • If the instance is empty for 5 minutes, it will be closed.

The Mantra Burst build (30/30/0/0/0 +10) is one of the purest builds of mesmers. Originally it’s rather than a class cannon maybe a “diamond scalpel” build. I works in PvP versus several opponents, but once you’ve used your charges and the opponent didn’t fall, you’re dead. While you have awesome healing, condition remover, and dazer, you have zero (additional) armor and no stunbreaker.

But don’t mix the term “mantra builds” with the “mantra burst build”. It’s a very special one among them.

  • Condition Durations are rounded in the tooltip but applied precisely. Trying to get 1.9 burning just so it shows “2s” is pointless
  • How exactly fractions of conditions are applied is not known (for the players) yet. Especially when stacking. e.g. if 1.5s always applies a single tick, with 2×1.5s apply 2 or 3 ticks ? It’s also possible that 1.9s has a 90% chance on dealing a second hit (depending on when it’s inflicted). But it’s not known.

  • So … “w/ Support” you say … you’re only talking about Staff #5, right ?
  • So … where’s the “power” in your build ?
  • Technically you made a condition only build.
  • Giver’s weapons are nice if you make a condition build. Unfortunately they lack for two-handed weapons. It might replace some runes without much cost.
  • As condition mesmer with 15 pts in dueling, you should also consider using some minor rampager equips.

Mesmer has low melee cabability, indeed. But also only a single ranged one-handed weapon. The only second melee weapon for mesmer would be dagger. (or torch or focus, lol) I don’t like daggers on main hand. But I’d also see another ranged weapon choice while wearing focus …

And no, Engineer has worse melee. And you can’t compare to ranger, there’s a big class inequality when it comes to weapons. (Excluding Engineer and Elementalist) Only Thief is worse than Mesmer. But afair, Mesmer is the only class with two 1200 range weapons.

Looking at those numbers … the OP should’ve separated PvP, WvW and PvE … you can clearly see that thief and Mesmer are PvP/ WvW players. Mesmers don’t die in PvE and Thiefs only die in PvE …

Keep your hands off my MF gear

Alot players complained about MagicFind in parties. If one out of five players wore it, he dragged the party down and got rewards for it. Imagine a five man party going into CoF p1 with pure MF equip. They’d die every stage and couldn’t kill the endboss.
Currently MF relies on leeching of your teammates for personal rewards.
ANet addressed this and has ANNOUNCED measurements (not implemented yet). They haven’t talked about compensation, but leechers like to complain beforehand.

Lvl30 with 30 AR is like lvl10 with 0 AR, 12% hp per tick. Remember that your healing if halved and (as said above) sometimes you can get multiple agony stacks.

Personally, I don’t recommend going lvl30 with only 30 AR, but if you’re afraid of your AR not working, unequip it and feel the 48% HP drain per second.

What you described is not fixed on trait builds, but on weapons. It’s common tactic to pull the mobs together for (melee) AoE-ing and with the focus you have to do so towards the nearest wall. Then bursting your AoEs …..

You already chose a build and you seem to have your priorities set.

To your skills:

  • Instead of nullfield try things like pDisenchanter, Signet of inspiration and for survival purposes blink. At the JadeMaw I like Signet of Midnight to (stunbreak) blind the tentacles right before they hit you.
  • If you often fight close range, just test healing mantra, maybe it’ll suit your style.

To your traits:

  • As said before, you seem to have priorities set, and that barely left you freedom. But for FotM I’d miss the focus trait (and the illusion damage).
  • Also remember that +3% dmg per illusion doesn’t affect illusions.

To your equip:

  • If you manage to not fall to the ground every 10s with those equips, feel free to use them. For my taste, I’d mix in a bit of toughness. Especially for helping revving others, but I’m not a zerker build, so I try to help others <.<
  • [ Edit ] Can you explain me your choice of runeset ? It’s not that bad, but mesmers barely have access to fury. I’d rather use 6 ruby orbs …
  • Remember that the Sigil of force (in your sword) does not affect illusions, better use sigil of accuracy, battle, strength, blood, pow stack or prec stack. [/ Edit ]

Mantras are usually a way of doing things, but not builds. The only “real” mantra build is the PvP mantra burst one. Meaning, the mantras don’t tell you howto play, you you decide howto play and choose the mantras (traits) accordingly. So other than “mantra builds” better tell us what you want to do and if it can be done including mantras.

Semi-Mantra PvE Build - need advice

I’m not the guy who makes builds and recommend them to others so they can copy it. I tell others what it does and that they’ve to decide yourself, yet feel free to look at my current build (sig).

Generally, you can use mantras anytime you want (especially in PvE), no need to trait into them. But the more you use them the more you want to trait them. Mantra traits are AoeHealOnCast (Insp 20), ReducedCD (Duel 20), DmgWhileCharge (duel 30), ToughOnCast (Duel 10) and AdditionalCharge (Domi 30).

  • AoeHealOnCast (Insp 20): Most used “mantra trait”. Awesome synergy with MoP and awesome boost to HealingMantra
  • ReducedCD (Duel 20): Most players don’t like this since it’s at the same place as DE. But as phant build you might not like DE, so I use this. It reduces HealingMantra to 8s recharge. Adding CD, cast and chargeCD makes it a 11.75s cycle (3 x ~2800 HP / 11.75s = ~715 HP/s). It’s one of the most powerful heals in GW2, not even counting AoE and additional heal from MoP charging
  • DmgWhileCharge (duel 30): That’s a peculiar trait and doesn’t work with illusions. It usually boosts my own damage by 10% (8% ~ 12%), but well.
  • ToughOnCast (Duel 10): 400 Toughness on mantra casting … I only use this trait when I’m fighting a boss I know I’ll permanently charge mantras, but even there it’s barely noticable. I prefer most other traits in the adept slot.
  • AdditionalCharge (Domi 30): That’s another peculiar trait, usually only suited for PvP Mantra Burst builds.

As for damage build, you’d also need to decide your way of dealing damage. For mesmers there are shatters, phants, bleeds and conditions. I chose Phantasms, so I spend 10 pts into domination and 25 pts into inspiration. As supporter build, the points in inspiration were planned anyways.

If you want a pure phantasm build, you might think about ditching the whole dueling line to get Phantasmal Haste and IC in the illusion tree. That’d be 10/0/0/25/25 +10. Dmg-wise most players would put the free 10 pts into domination for GS trait. If you want survivability, you could put 5 pts into dueling and 5 into chaos.

As equips, you don’t deal damage with conditions, unless you go for a condition build with the staff. Healing equip barely pays of as mesmer, which leaves us precision (sharper images), berserker, bunker (pow, tough, vit) or boon duration.

If you want to combine MoP and Restorative Mantras, getting a third charge (Domination 30) will only hurt you. Generally, I only recommend Dom30 for Mantra Burst builds. And those are PvP players not PvE or support.

IoL is peculiar – as every revival skill. It is not inferior to others, just different. Why ? Semi cast, long range and AoE. That’s why it brings you in Vengeance and not completely revive you (that’d be OP). In PvP this is often used and nice and somewhat balanced. In PvE it’s useless, especially where it counts – at bosses.

IoL (and Vengeance) got a change a few months ago. You don’t rally anymore by anything (unlike when you’re downed), you need to kill something and get exp for it. And this doesn’t work for most (all?) boss minions.

I still wonder about ppl doing this. I think it never happend to me (maliciously) yet and I play since BWE.

This feature can’t distinguish between malicious kicks and “normal” ones. If someone misbehaves (is rude) or just blocks the progress (timed locks) or simply does nothing, what to do? It’s not always the fault of the “kickers” but also the “kicked” ones, and I don’t want the “penalty” from others.

And then there’s also the (above meantioned) issue with leaving. The instance owner leaves and reinvites his guild members and you’re back at square one.

It also won’t work with “make three votes needed” or “let all members have to agree”, there’ll always be times needed where this blocks progress or let’s others abuse it.

If you’re alone and joining a group of guildmates, ask to be host of the instance. And that still doesn’t prevent abuse, since you could single handly leave the party and invite your friends for the endboss.

I previously suggested a reward system for dungeons which most most likely prevent any of those misbehaviours. Make the reward dependant on the time you spent in that dungeon and let the kicked member have his time accounted, done. This still doesn’t prevent malicious kicking or kicking for FotM lvl ups, but it’ll compensate others.

Your build is a … pure hybrid. Nothing chosen, a bit of everything. Like you threw several dice and chose your traits and skills from it.

  • Empowering Mantras does not work with Illusions. Getting it without lowered mantra CD is wierd.
  • Instead you try to get your pistol up and deal 15% more damage …
  • You put 20 pts in Illusions and not 25 for IC …
  • You wear mainly rabid and don’t use Staff. You barely use damage gear but have DomIII, DuelXI and IlluX …

As I said, your build has nothing but random things. It doesn’t support, it doesn’t deal damage, it doesn’t rely on mantras.

(PvE) Generally:

  • Mantra support relies on Restorative Mantras (and MoP)
  • Phantasm builds rely either on Dom10 & Insp25 and/ or on Illu20 and Illu25
  • Condition Builds rely on Staff with Malice (and usually DE)
  • Bleed builds rely on Duel15, precision and GS

So, if you’re satisfied with your build, have fun, but for me, you’d have to specialize alot and not try to take a bit of everything/ anything.

Mimic … you want to half the reflection duration ? why ? I understand that Echo (Mimic-2) should be instant, but not be used while you’re stunned. And not deal daze while creating a projectile, which might stun as well …

Also, do not mess with defiant. The system is the way it is. If you want to remove multiple stacks, other classes want as well.

Generally, I understand that you want to improve interrupt builds, but that’s the wrong way … Instead of using the skills which do the things (stunbreak, daze, …) you want your preferred skills to additionally have those effects.

You can shoot a bow in real life in plate Armour, it was expensive that’s why archers did not wear it, archers would get torn apart from cavalry in real life if charged, if they all had plate Armour and a sword instead of a dagger and buckler it would be different.

In games with agile dps warriors a lot of the time they do not wear full plate Armour, to gain that agility, a guardian should get a longbow if a Mesmer can have a two handed sword, did you see scholars wielding 6 foot swords?

The mesmer is a hypnotist … his greatsword is floating and shooting beams. Yeah, I haven’t seen one IRL yet … And well, even 132cm (4.5 foot) katanas (samurai sword) weighted only ~1.5kg (~3 lbs). A good longbow weights 20kg (45lbs). If you make the arrow repel, it’s quite a force on your arms. You would’nt want to wear any non-press-fit armor while shooting.

you even need to carefully watch your breathing while shooting an arrow (more than for guns). I wouldn’t want to carry a 40kg (80+lbs) armor while having to watch my breathing.

Bows for Guardians? Neither “realistically” speaking, nor “balacing wise” speaking. “fantasy wise” speaking any class should be able to wear all weapons.

The “most rewarding” part is only true when you’re 80. If you’re below 80, the drops are below other dungeons. You don’t get tokens for equips (exc back), you don’t get exp.

You can try out FotM lvl1-9, but I recommend a lvl80 yellow geared+ party for lvl10+.

Actually, it’s the opposite. You need accuracy and swiftness to use a bow. Wearing super heavy armor is not meant to be used here. Guardians are supposed to be the front liners. Heavy armor with heavy weapons (speaking realistically). Warriors are the same, but they sacrifice a bit armor for mobility/ attacking power.
You don’t need heavy armor when you stand in the back, do you? Archers were leather wearer (or even fabric for asian ones … well any asian one wore fabric). Scholars are even further in the back, developing weapons without touching the battlefield. That’s why they wore light “armors”.

Want to be a devasting damage, healing artillery? Standing in the back, healing the front and not being attacked once? The bow should have an anti-aggro skill, right?

@Nretep: Personally, I like the freedom given to me during a fight when traiting both weapons when I am running with a greatsword, although I see where this can be inefficient, especially if I stick to just one or the other for this most of the fight. For my playstyle, there also seems to be a lack of other options, so I just stick with these by default. I’ll throw in alternatives to them, as this is a good idea. Also, I forgot about iDisenchanter. I’ll add him on and suggest where I have found him to be useful. As for Mass Invisibility, I seem to only notice them stealing bombs when a group uses port to run away before the bombs explode. Next time I run dredge, I’ll check this and change accordingly. On a greatsword, if I know that Sigil of Energy will not be needed, what do you recommend besides sigil of force? Fire or Air? What makes the sigil of force useless on a mesmer…the fact that it doesn’t affect illusions?

I don’t like any of the weapon traits expect the focus one, but that’s my opinion. If you feel that you need the other two ones, feel free to select them. Another viable excuse would be “no other useful thing in xyz line”.
pDisenchanter is situational but unbeatable in those situations. I even learned to like it as illusion summoning with lowest-CD as utility, sounds wierd, but the situation excused it. We were running CoE p2, group-meleeing alpha^2. I use the staff for defensive/ supportive purposes and its #2 is not good if you have to stay in the group. So next to pWarlock I put pDisenchanter into my skills just to shatter them for group vigor. We managed to get >40s vigor. Even a more peculiar situation and DE might’ve been the better choice <.<.
But the pDisenchanter has its uses whenever a boss continuously buffs itsself. CoE p1~3 tower golem; dredge fractal preboss; harpy fractal ettin.
The bombs in the dredge fractal are mean. If you use MInvi to get to the bombs, it’s not long enough, if you use it to get away, the dredges get the bombs. For that I usually tend to get Feedback, pWarden, Sword#2 and sylvari ulti for invul. Just lay the bombs and stand your ground as long as possible. If MInvi has its uses, tell me. I even use Moa on tentacles of the jade maw … rather than MInvi.

Sigil of Energy is wasted (imo) since we have perm vigor (dueling 5). Sigil of Force is barely useful for non-shatter skills since our illusions don’t inherit it.
I’d rather get an stat-stacking sigil, sigil of blood (life leech) of sigil of battle into it, if you intend to use SoI.
