I would suggest a guardian, the reason is … a lot of people cry out thieves and I wont go into details why but chances are they will get nerfed at some point whether they deserve it or not is irrelevant because it will happen. Guardians on the other hand I believe most will agree are in a good spot balance wise. So if you don’t want to deal with a lot of QQ/nerfs go guardian.

I have played guardian and its a lot of fun, I have never played a thief past lvl 5 so I can’t comment reliably on them but from what I’ve heard they are a lot of fun as well.

So do you want to be nerfed at some point or not because it seems both classes are enjoyable.

Guardians have been nerfed every patch since open beta. Not sure wtf you’re talking about.

Every class has had “nerfs” the guardians haven’t really hurt the class, my concern is thieves will eventually get hit hard. OP asked a question why not try to answer it instead of coming here to troll.

If Anet fixes the rendering issue then I think thieves will be fine (won’t know until we can see how they function with proper stealth) so I’m going to disagree with nerfing them. Even if they try to avoid exploiting the bug they have no choice it just happens, they only way to avoid it is not use any stealth abilities and I’m pretty sure you won’t find a single thief that will agree to that.

No I don’t play a thief.

If pets functioned properly then yes, current state no. You know full well when you create a Ranger that pets are involved so its not a surprise, but pathing issues, missing moving targets, running ahead X yards (also part of pathing), dying if anyone so much as looks in their direction, delayed special abilities. The list goes on, if the pets were fixed then yes we should be tied to them, its just unfortunate that they are poorly designed/coded.

If you don’t want the pet roll a warrior or thief.

We all agree the ranger is underpowered – why are we having discussions on it to what degree they are? Fact is ArenaNet needs to actually start putting in place corrections they indicated long ago would be and these conversations that just go in circles (I’ve literally seen hundreds of these threads) are pointless. Read the archive of posts.

It’s just annoying to see people complaining about the wrong things. Like I just read a thread about how ranger dies 1-2 hits no matter what. Like that must be a joke right?

If your talking about my post you need to re-read it yet again, nothing about rangers specifically dying in 1-2 shots. Carry on.

After playing with the skill builders from what I can tell both Warriors and Thieves make better Rangers then Rangers themselves. I’m leaning towards deleting my Ranger and rolling thief and going full P/P, SB and playing it as an archer, who wouldn’t want an invisible Archer. My only issue is Thieves range is 900 with the exception of I think 1 ranged ability, so for actual range a warrior might be the better choice. Oh decisions decisions.

Go play a thief. My wolf likes to eat them.

Rangers are the bottom of the barrel currently, but maybe if every other profession was nerfed we would be ok. I’ve always been a firm believer that no class should ever 1 or 2 shot anyone. Long battles are far more enjoyable then 2 second fights, no class in the game should be critting for over 10k. If most classes have roughly 20k life why are there classes critting for 20-30k ? Bad design is bad.

If you are being 1shotted by a thief I’m afraid you are either using a terribly bad build or just doing it very wrong. Trap condi ranger is a STRONG counter against thieves.

Don’t you have another forum to troll ? Please point out where in my post at any point that thief was mentioned ? If your going to try and look whitty at least read the posts otherwise you just look like a complete kitten.

30K? What class is critting for 30K? lol…

Warrior Rifle Kill Shot, checkout you tube some time theres plenty of clips on it.

That and some friendly guild discussion on the topic of our highest crits, shockingly 2-3 Warriors claimed their highest crits (not sure with what weapon) were between 30k and the highest of 36k … now they may have been full of crap but I don’t see why they would feel the need to lie to guildies as they laughed about how OP they felt it was.

SO you really think, that the ranger, which class description says: “Unparalleled Archer” , is SUPPOSED to be weaker then the warrior, the average sword and board/hammer pound away dude.

The Warrior’s description states “Warriors are masters of weaponry”. Not “melee” weaponry but “weaponry”. As in “all weapons, including ranged ones”. You’re shoving previous mmorpg conventions onto the Warrior just as you are with the Ranger

In the first beta weekend, the Warrior could (often did) lose to the ranger; the Ranger would spec for damage, ignore the pet entirely, and win fights.

The class that is designed to win through being superior with weapons equipped, lost on their own home turf.
You may say rangers are supposed to be the best at ranged combat; I say, there’s better ways for that to be so than raw damage.

Unparalleled archers… I think this part isn’t sinking in for you. This means that in terms of archery, rangers are on top. No one is better. this INCLUDES WARRIORS.

The problem is what do you define as ‘Unparalleled’? Damage? Then yes, the ranger should do more damage according tot hat description. However, what about in other ways?
For example, firing a shortbow on the move, accurately hitting a target? That requires a lot of skill and only unparalleled skill in a bow lets you do that sort of thing. Putting more damage on the bows so it matches a warrior will not fix things. It will break them.

One could say your definition of “Masters of Weaponry” is also an opinion, Being the master of weaponry could mean they never miss, they can USE every weapon out there, the have increased knowledge of weapons, and yes it could also mean they do more effective DMG. It COULD be one or a couple or all, I’m not saying your argument about unparalleled Archers is wrong but I am definitely going to point out where your masters of weaponry argument is sketchy at best according to your own arguments.

The bottom line is if you really look, you can twist wording in any manner making an argument for even the most obvious statements. I personally think you just like to debate for the sake of debating, not a bad thing but you can’t honestly believe your going to win a debate by putting forth your opinion on a statement that was created by someone else, at the same point we can’t insist our opinion is correct either making this a completely invalid debate by all parties.

To me Unparalleled Archer means the best, they have no equal in that department. Masters of Weaponry means proficient (not the best just proficient) in all weaponry.

To each their own I suppose but you read into it how you like and I will read into how I like. We can both have our opinions both of which are equally valid. So if I want to be pissy about Warriors being better at range I and everyone else is within their rights to be pissy according to class descriptions.

Buffing warriors more then they have at this point would be suicide, visit the other class forums and you will see how many classes are literally fuming that they either got nerfed, or recieved nothing worth while at all. Warriors are in a pretty good spot compared to most classes at this point in time.

If the other classes see another Warrior buff before some major issues are adressed you can bet your kitten they will have customers storming their building with torches and pitch forks.

I would rather push for them to do their jobs and look at ALL our weapons. I refuse to settle for just SB. I want to choose my weapon and be as viable as their beloved Warrior instead of being forced to play with SB and still be inferior to pretty much every other class.

His new excuse is 2 devs working around the clock and they just didn’t have time … they sure had time to buff classes that were in a much better position then rangers.

With all do respect, there are many classes that received numerous changes/buffs/nerfs that were, in many peoples opinion in a good spot. Warriors received numerous buffs to the ranged weapon, Warriors were not in a bad spot at all yet it seems the 2 designers spent more time on the Warrior class then they did on classes (such as rangers) that really needed work done to them.

This is not an “I quit blah blah” post, it is however a post pointing out maybe those 2 designers should have a class priority list (because the obvious escapes them or whomever directs them). This patch was very disappointing for Rangers and in turn I think it also will make many people think twice before taking anything seriously you now post here. Its unfortunate but yours is the name they know.

I will continue playing, but I won’t be playing my Ranger from this point on and will be extremely skeptical of any posts from a Anet employee.

Hope for mediocre changes and be happy if they exceed your expectations imo. Substantial means nothing, $10,000 is a substantial amount to a low income family, $10,000 is peanuts to a millionaire. So putting faith in one word that can be very different depending on what your view of substantial is, might be setting yourself up for disappointment.

I hope they exceed expectations but I’ll settle for some decent fixes.

Ok maybe that a bit of exageration, the warriors I do see in WvWvW seem to do just fine with the exception of a select few but every class has those select few.

So that leaves Guardians, they also seem to do just fine from what I’ve seen.

Gems you purchase with real money so basically you are paying real money for transfers when you buy gems with real money which are then used to transfer. The reason for gems is so ppl can buy bulk if they so choose, rather then having several transactions for say transfer, dye’s, boost’s, ect ect. Buy a lump sum of gems and spend them as you choose.

In the end its still costing real money.

Small manning can be alot of fun and it can help the zerg out more then many realise if coordinated right. Cutting off reinforcements, guarding supplies, coordinated flanks, killing supplies. All of these can come into play and work for the server if done correctly. DAoC had 8 mans/small mans always running around doing their own things but when the time came that the zerg needed help from them to coordinate whatever plan was in mind they generally were more effective then the zerg itself.

You would be amazed what a small group of coordinated players can accomplish.

I love a challenge, I do not love having to change my spec/setting aside 2+hours, Pathetic rewards for time spent/pure frustration levels of difficulty. I really think they missed the mark with the dungeons.

I finally found a grp that could beat the lovers in AC …. now I will probably never touch another dungeon in GW2 due to the fact that they are just poorly desgined and far to hard with kitteny rewards. Its simply not fun and a complete waste of my time.

I’m not a casual but at the same point I refuse to set aside 2+ hours to do a dungeon … not a raid a dungeon.

Very dissapointed in this aspect of the game.

I agree with this, its extremely dissapointing to get not 1 but 2 pieces unusable by your class. I still haven’t recieved an item I can use in any one of my zone complete chests.

By Item I mean the Armor/Weapon

Could we see an increase in range on BOTH yes both the reason being is lets take Rangers Short/Long Bow for example which both share 1200 range. So I see no reason why Pistol/Rifle range should not be increased to equal value of 1200 as well. Its a bit silly when you realise a ranger can throw an Axe the same range as as both the Pistol and Rifle.

You can triat for an extra 20% range but that still only brings both up to 1080 range and wastes a valuable trait. Just something I would love to see in the future to help improve the Engi class.

The engineer is a half-hearted ranger.

I personally think the problem is to many levels, for a game that is suppose to be more PvP based, 80 levels to start is a pretty rediculous number. I’m not saying its hard or that I dislike the game but I certainly didnt buy GW to PvE myself to death.

I realise I don’t have to level bu I still feel obligated to level for some reason.

Thnx all I wasn’t really seeing the big return off the 6 piece bonus but at the same point its less return off the 3/3 … Kind of dissapointing tbh. Love the game don’t take that the wrong way but pigeon holing classes into the 6 bonus is kinda counter productive for a game like GW thats suppose to be all about the random PvP specs that don’t fall into cookie cutter territory.

Pigeon holing classes was the wrong term …. pigeon holing play styles is what I meant.

yes I’m aware, basically I can go full grove and have a chance to root on hit or I can split grove for healing 50/15 prot and afflic for 55 cond/15 bleed. or I can max out grove.

Atm playing pugs but I am having a hard time settling on maxing a 6 piece because it just seems well silly, when you can boost more then 1 area of your toon.

Edit: guildies are leveling/on vacation so pugging is only temp

yes, you earn … I want to call them coins but they are not coins, that allow a 1 time transmog. I believe everytime you complete a zone (find all the waypoints, Points of interest, ect) you will be rewarded with at least 1.

I quit crafting shortly after I tried it, the amount of mats needed to make anything is way to much, its also far to time consuming to try and farm that number of mats. I have guildies that loved to craft in most games they played (I know I don’t get it either) and even they have commented on the rediculous amount of mats needed making it not worth their time.

Don’t need to be 80 but being at least 30 so you can have your elite skill helps. Even roaming around and finding solo fights can be alot of fun in WvWvW, or form a grp and look for some GvG fights. Sieging is only a fraction of the fun in WvWvW.

The game is fun, PvP is competative, I don’t feel obligated to play daily because of a sub fee, WvWvW is the closest thing to DAoC RVR, Small man’ing/Roaming is an option in WvWvW.

Well its my opinion that currently Warriors are absolutely rediculous. That may or maynot change in time. It could be I’m not countering them properly but so far most PvP matches I’ve been in Warriors tend to be dominating. Haven’t really seen a guardian yet and thought “awwkitten I’m dead”.

The only thing I would like to see is the option to key bind to gaming mice. But even if they decide to not go that route its not game breaking. More of a quality of life change for me but something I can live without.

I disagree that they need their damage upped because of warriors, right now warriors are to powerful imo due to having the best of both worlds DPS/Mitigation. Elementalists DPS is better then average and thus they are squishy which is the way it should be. It should always be high DPS/low survivability, Average DPS/Average Survivability, Low DPS/High Survivability. Utility Specs should follow the same basis with Utility/DPS/Mitigation.

You really can’t base balance on Warriors atm because lets be honest … Warriors current state is rediculous.

I found that a Dual Pistol/Pistol/Shield with elixirs had ok dmg output but it was nessassary to take full advantage of the elixirs and more or less pop everything at once. I find the damage sub par when compared to any other class if you don’t burn every CD at once.

I don’t care for rifles at all so I can’t comment on them.

I would like to see our damage raised a bit, I don’t bother with turrets for the same reasons other have mentioned. As far as Pistols should be shorter range and Rifles should be longer this does not apply to Long Bows/Shorts Bows for Rangers so therefore both Pistol and Rifle should be equal range which does need to be increased for both.

We are however a viable support class when built for it which I do like.

Yeah I forgot about the Guardian elite, with the elite guardians are pretty capable heals, didn’t much care for the staff heals though. All in all I still prefer the Engi.

After playing both past 20 and PvPing with both, I would have to say Engineer, Guardian or the two closest classes your going to get to a pure healer. With that said niether are actually dedicated heals, I found Engineers have the most healing type abilities while Guardian have the most mitigation (shields ect.) type abilities. I love playing heals myself and was actually quite dissapointed that pure heals were not part of the game, I love the game don’t get me wrong but the dissapointment was there.

I’m hoping in future expansions they bring back the monk, some of us believe it or not do enjoy playing a true support class.
