2 monthly achievements in less that 3 weeks?
are you a timelord?

Not something that I’ve personally achieved, but it should be possible.

But even without that, 28 days for a full set of endgame gear isn’t even a big deal. I know games where you would have to work multiple times that to get the gear. And then even longer to get the shards and refinements.

Story behind Weapon swapping timer?

I have noticed that as a warrior, no overpowered combination is Ranged / Mele weapon. I think this is very similar as Engineer has. My strong suggestion is, that Ranged/Mele weapon 0 timer swap is allowed. This affects to gameplay a lot and make it sensible. You dont have to wait anymore in a battlefield ranged/mele free change. I think this is very welcome thing.

Throw Axe + Aimed Shot. Traited into Power, you get permanent Cripple. Add in Leg Specialist and you got a 20% uptime for Immobilize.

That combo is currently only possible if you trait 15 points into Discipline for Fast Hands.

Only thing that prevents this is weapon swap runes. Runes can have now a note “Does not affect ranged weapon swap”. So, mele/mele has rune buffs only and as i suggested, mele/mele weapon has a timer as it is now. Only ranged/mele combination has no timer.

There’s also a trait called Fast Hands, which reduces the cooldown on your weapon swap. Your suggestion would make it obsolete.

And let’s be honest, you would be pissing off a ton of people if you made it so that swaps between a Ranged Weapon and a melee weapon couldn’t trigger the Sigils that currently have effects on Swaps. I bet you would have a frenzy of Warriors complaining about how you just ruined their 100% Crit Kill Shot.

So ?
They could have got people in there by just having it be more profitable. Either through rare skins or a higher value in the vendor trash.

Making dungeons excessively profitable is like a big middle finger to the WvW folk.

Most people will still try it, especially the people who are after gold. If it’s the only place that drops a new skin, that skin will be very valuable, so people will farm the dungeon just to get it. So why do you think a ‘large portion’ of the player base won’t try it ?

Currently, most people who do not do FotM don’t do it because of the Agony system and the supposed elitism it brings. However, there’s tons of people who still think that way but are doing the dungeon because it’s the only way to get the gear. If they had another way to get it, they sure as hell wouldn’t be in the dungeon. After all, those people were against the whole idea.

As for the people who won’t try it, what good does forcing them into it do

It gets people in the dungeon. In the worst case scenario, it at least gives off the impression of it being popular. Because let’s face it, no developer team wants to discuss how their most recent addition to the game was both unpopular and disliked.

Forceful Greatsword seems to be a pretty mandatory trait…and that also doesn’t include all the very niche/weak traits in Arms like: Gain fury when you immobilize a foe, 10% chance to gain swiftness on crit for 3 seconds, and critical hits grant an extra adrenaline strike which probably no one would ever pick.

The traits that no one uses are that way not because of some mandatory traits, but because they are outdone elsewhere. Gaining fury on Immobilize is largely made useless because of easy access to Fury from other sources, such as FGJ and SOR. Gaining Swiftness on crit is useless for the short duration and easier access to Swiftness via SOR and Charge.

And by the way, I could totally see a Sword warrior using Opportunist. Opportunist with Flurry means you get a free Fury on your burst. Opportunist with Leg Specialist means you get free Fury with Hamstring. Heck, I could even picture a Rifle Warrior using Opportunist+Leg Specialist to get Fury with Aimed Shot for a Kill Shot setup.

You could also add an alternative trait line that is solely based on boosting your weapon abilities (cooldowns, damage, swap duration) and dump all of those skills in that traitline. The only problem is that there are currently no weapon-related Grandmaster traits.

I see you stealthily undid the nerf on Evasive Arcana there. Unfortunately, that invalidates the whole post in my eyes.

Also, there is no such thing as mandatory trait. There are just some traits which are perceived as better than others. For Warriors, these traits tend to be Forceful Greatsword on the damage end and Vigorous Shouts on the support part.

Take a Warrior as an example. Let’s say you have 10 points in Discipline. For a GS warrior, they’re totally gonna pick Heightened Focus, because they don’t really use their burst ability. A warrior with Vigorous Shouts might pick Inspiring Shouts or Signet Mastery. Someone with a shield might pick Mighty Defenses. With 20 points in Discipline, WvW people love Sweet Revenge, whereas someone who does PvE with an Axe would probably pick Sharpened Axes. Someone with a Sword or a GS would most definitely pick Mobile Strikes.

Just as another personal example, I run 0/0/30/30/10 on my Warrior. The weapons that I carry are: 2 axes, 2 maces, a hammer, a longbow, a rifle, a shield and a warhorn. Out of the traits I get, there’s 5 out of 30 that boost my weaponry. Out of those 5, I only use 1. The rest of my traits? My Tactics and Discipline traits center on boons, whereas my Defense Traits support my Shield and defenses.

Why should people be forced to spend their limited playing time in a tiny area of the game they don’t enjoy just to improve their stats for the parts they do ?

Why should they be forced to run it hundreds or thousands of times, with no progress made on any of those runs, just because the RNG hates them ?

It’s a new dungeon. Unlike the other dungeons, it was not in the game from the beginning. I hope that ANet will eventually add the Ascended gear to crafting and the Temple Karma Vendors. However, if they added it from the beginning, tons of people would just craft the gear rather than run the dungeon.

And besides, none of the gear we have in the previous dungeons is craftable. They do have alternatives that are craftable, not to mention that some variations can be bought from the Temple Karma Vendors.

Because the dungeon can drop really valuable stuff that you can then sell for lots of gold. Because it’s a fun dungeon. Because you don’t have the gold you need to buy it and are hoping to get lucky.

Let’s be realistic now. Considering all the complaints that we have about Agony, you can pretty much bet on people crafting their Ascended gear before going into the dungeon. At least for the ones that believe that Ascended gear is going to become a necessity. And that’s a ton of people not doing the dungeon. New content that is not being done by a large portion of the player base? Sure sounds like a dumb idea.

What’s wrong with them buying the gear ?

Nothing, if the dungeon wasn’t new. As it is new, to guarantee that the content is popular and played, ANet pretty much has to make it dungeon-only.

We can’t judge those plans without more detail. They might be planning to remove bind on pickup, they might be planning something rather stupid like Ascended gear drops in WvW being from jumping puzzles only. Or they might not have any plans yet, just a panicked promise.

We are talking about a company who locked the Ascended gear threadnaught with a message telling people to refer to a post made before we knew that they had gone with the stupidity of BOP RNG drops being required. A post that was insufficient even then.

Well, the CC’s are like security guards. They’re there to keep the order, rather than to give answers.

And honestly, if ANet does actually take in the community’s opinion and adjusts their implementations based on that, we should see the Ascended gear made more accessible in smart ways. Those being crafting, Karma and WvW, rather than RNG bullkitten like Mystic Forge or event chests.

2. & 3. I would expect both of these to be part of the “E-sports” improvements that ANet has been talking about.
4. There is absolutely no need for player-to-player trading in the game. The only reason would be to avoid the fees on the Trading Post, and the fees are there for a reason. You can already mail both gear and gold.

Making FotM gear available without running the dungeon sounds good on paper.

But that would rather defeat the point. Why run the dungeon if you can just buy the gear? Most of the people who are interested in FotM gear are into WvWvW. People who have already done everything. People who have a decent amount of wealth. People who would be willing to buy the gear if it meant they could stick to doing WvWvW.

And from what I understood, ANet is already planning to put in means of getting the stuff outside of FotM.

And honestly, if they just added an Ascended tab to the Temple armors that you can buy with Karma and to WvWvW vendors, I think that would please most people.

Since the skins are identical, I mixed and matched myself 5 pieces of Power/Toughness/Vitality. The only piece that does not offer that option being the helmet.

But it depends a bit on your build. If you’re running swords, you’d want the Condition Damage/Precision/Toughness set.

I don’t find the mods strange. I just find them a bit defense-oriented. There is no armor that has Power and Precision, for example.

I said most. And that would be one of the exceptions.

Or at least let your other chars transmute a soulbound armor piece.

Transmutation Stones are Account Bound?

And can you even get a piece of armor in the game that is Soulbound without equipping it first?

Skins I don’t mind much, but the gear itself should be Soulbound. This is because otherwise plenty of casual people are just going to get a single set of Heavy, Medium and Light armor and pass those from character to the next. And considering how easy it is to get a decent set of Exotic armor, I see no reason to make it any easier. Heck, just by doing Daily Achievements, you can get a full 6 piece set of Exotic armor from the Temples in 38 days. Add in Monthly Achievement and that’s down to 28 days. Add in another Monthly Achievement and it’s 18 days. Less than 3 weeks for a full set of endgame gear.

Skins for dualwielding

in Suggestions

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

I think there should be an option for selecting skins when you’re dual-wielding.

For example, say you’re wielding an Exotic Sword and a Rare Sword. I think you should be able to have some kind of toggle option, where you can select the skins to be

  • Exotic / Exotic
  • Rare / Rare
  • Exotic / Rare (same as none)

Of course, this would mean that people who dualwield do not need to get two of the same skin. That will be seen as unfair by some, but what about when the skins are very expensive such as Legendaries? I think it’s not fair that someone can get a Legendary 2H weapon and have their skin, whereas someone who dualwields two of the same weapon, e.g. Sword/Sword, Dagger/Dagger, Mace/Mace or Pistol/Pistol would either have to settle for one skin or they would have to pay twice the price.

In the spirit of keeping the Legendaries just a cosmetic thing, I think this feature should be available for all dual-wieldable weapons.

Legendary Pistols. Yes, note the plural.

Olba.5376

2h legendaries should require more materials to make, or make 1h legendaries require less. Doesn’t make much sense that a small dagger needs as much materials to make as a 2h, when you most likely will want 2 of those daggers.

You could easily take the word legendary out of this post and it would still be a valid point regarding weapons. I’d also be comfortable with replacing “materials to make” with “cost.”

I think it’s fine as it is.

If you halve the costs, you end up with 1-handed weapons being more cost effective because they deal identical damage but only cost 50%. If you halve the damage, you end up with the one-handed weapons being 50% weaker with 50% the cost. But that’s not fair, because that would result in combining MH/OH weapons dealing 50% of the damage of 2-handed weapons.

And besides, the weapon that you choose is exactly that: your decision.

Though, you could do something with the skins. For example, make it so that if you’re dualwielding two weapons of the same type (D/D, S/S, M/M, P/P), you get the option to use any combination of their respective skins. That is, if you have a Legendary and an Exotic, you get the option to show either their native skins, two of the Exotic skins or two of the Legendary skins. Of course, the skins are not transmuted, like when you use a transmutation stone, but rather they’re just a while-equipped option, not different from the helm and shoulder armor toggled we get. For example, you could make it so that when you’re dual-wielding, you get two of those tick boxes, with the left one indicating the MH skin and the right one indicating the OH one.

Legendary Pistols. Yes, note the plural.

It’s not the same as a huge two handed greatsword. If you put in the massive effort to get one pistol of a “set” of items, then it shouldn’t be much harder to get the other one. Even if it’s just the precursor and some Gift items. Shouldn’t take another million karma and 100 gold to get the offhand. IMO, the idea is that the two together would make up one legendary pair of weapons that are intended to be used together. Still lots of work to get, but not TWICE as much as a two-handed weapon. That is the huge turn off for 1H legendaries.

Then what about Maces? Swords? Axes? Daggers? All of those can be combined with each other, or with another weapon or a sidearm.

Same with the pistol. So if we’re talking about making one easier or cheaper, you have to do it for all of them. And guess what? That’s gonna piss off anyone who’s using a scepter, as that is the only 1h weapon that cannot be dual-wielded. Oh and you’ll also piss off anyone who is using two different 1h weapons, as I suppose those wouldn’t get the benefit at all. And of course, you would piss off everyone who’s not using a 1h weapon at all. So in effect, you would piss off everyone except the people who dual wield one weapon type.

Unfortunately, the combinations that you can do are so numerous that there’s really no way to implement a system that would be fair for everyone.

2) They have tried and true mechanics as well as content that works with their formula.

1) And that’s why suggestions have a point. Just focusing on bug fixes would result in people complaining about the game being dull.
2) The mechanics work because of the system in each of those games, and their specific player bases.

Most of the time that people suggest things that get the “Go play <competing MMORPG here>” response, those suggestions aren’t really specific to that one game, but rather that the specific game is the most dominant example of it. For example, mounts. I bet you can name more MMORPGs that have mounts than MMORPGs that don’t. Raids? Well raids are pretty much a WoW thing.

And let’s be honest, anyone who jumps the game because of lacking a singular feature is just as likely to jump games due to a sudden patch, such as the Nov 15 one, as they are due to lack of specific things like mounts or raids.

So a tool for all tiers would have 100 uses for a tier 6 node, 200 uses on tier 5, 300 tier 4, tier 3 400 uses, tier 2 700 uses, tier 1 1,600 uses based on the cost ratio of the current tools.

But that’s going to make it event more confusing. Because what quantity of uses does it show? And what about mixed figures?

For example, say the tool I have is at 100 uses for T6. I then proceed to mine a T2 ore, which takes 3 uses from that, leaving it at 697. But how does this affect my T6 count? Does it go down by 3/7, thus creating decimals? Or does it stay at 100, since it rounds up?

And if you’re suggesting that each harvesting tool have separate counters for all tiers, that’s going to require them to make the higher tier ones even more expensive. After all, you’re saving “effort” or “space” by buying the higher tiers that have more available counts.

But what about if there’s a timed event, like the Lost Shores? You would literally have the game crashing because hundreds of your friends and guildies would be logging in seconds from each other, if not at the same time.

Never had been a problem in WoW, and that game has 14 million people playing it.

Did you read the forums doing the Lost Shores event? There were dozens of topics of people complaining about everything about it. The lag, the disconnects, the massive quantity of different overflow servers.

GW2 obviously has a very different server architecture, so comparing player figures isn’t going to give you any kind of validity.

It’s not that you’re mistaking it. The pickaxes clearly state what you can mine, so to me it’s more like a person using an inadequate tool because they did not listen to the guidelines they were given when they made the purchase. Modern equivalent here being not reading the user manual.

When you went to gather something with an improper implement, how about having the game warn me?

And then what would be the point of implementing the ruined items?

And let’s be honest, once you enter a new section and see a tree or an ore that is of a higher level, which you would know based on the item description, you would normally buy a better harvesting tool.

And at 70+, you can buy Orichalcum Logging Axe and Harvesting Sickle for Karma, which rather defeats the purpose of having lower level axes and sickles.

For example, for me personally Queensdale and Divinity’s Reach have a very fantasy feel. To me, they look like a typical starter village and capital city in a fantasy game, whereas places like Hoelbrak look like something you’d run into a bit later in the game.

And let’s be honest, things like beauty are subjective.

And the pictures that you linked had me thinking of Queensdale. A lot of similarity.

The problem with having a harbor as the main feature of a city is that it does not make much sense from a Lore point of view. The only big seas we have are Sea of Sorrow, which doesn’t offer a significant route anywhere, and Straits of Malchor, which separate Orr and Grove/Rata Sum. Sea routes are always about trading, but Kryta has a much better option, the Asura Gates, which are already linking all the major cities.

Make two versions of GW2, one version free to play, the other version with a
$25/month fee. Offering superior content and skill balance in the pay version,
and slowly having the content changes come over to the free version, with a
delay of a few months.

Because really, two people to work on the most important part of the game (skill design/balance/bugs), is just horridly understaffed

A server where people get updates before the rest, to test them on a massive scale?
It’s called a pre-patch test server. You get them for free in most games and most people are happily testing the skill balance on these just to “get ahead” of the competition.

Does GW2 have those? Would probably more efficient than two developers trying to test those skills.
I think a public test server “a la WoW” where the developers can test their most extreme ideas and >>>don’t have to apologise<<< for it would be the best.

Your idea is bad, because you give basically “Beta” content to the paying player base, whereas the rest of the crowd (non paying) gets content that has been “tested and approved” by the fools who are paying their fee.

Public test server:
Player: gets ahead of the content, so is happy.
GW2 team: test their thing as required, so is happy.

Not only that, but he also says “Superior content”, which would probably cover all the events. And the OP makes it sounds less like a test server and more like ANet just not releasing the content to the free versions. Which is what a lot of subscription based webservices, such as Crunchyroll, do. And if you ask me, that’s about as blatant of a money-grub as you can have.

You should never not provide content just so that you can make more money on it. You should never give unfairly better content just so that you can make more money on it. Doing either of these is like outright saying that the money of your playerbase matters more than the people. And in a game that is only able to exist because of the playerbase numbers, that’s like saying that you would be killing to shut down your game for money.

but actually around 20% less useful on average, when taking into account base stats and armor ratings.

who are around 25% better

And how exactly did you arrive at these figures?

Let’s look at this dilemma a bit closer.
If it’s needed to use +magic find, it means that the game itself is flawed in a way, that the drops are worse than they should normally.
If +magic find is not needed, then why give a monetary advantage to people who do less than the others?

It’s not a question of whether it’s needed or not. It’s a question of efficiency. People will always do everything they can to get the best result per unit of time spent. Even if the drops were fair, they would still do it, because that would get them more.

And you cannot really say that they are doing any less. For example, people in Knight’s Armor get the same amount of Power and Precision, but they get an additional ton of Toughness. Well that Toughness doesn’t improve their power, so screw them, right? What about combinations like Vitality/Power/Healing or Healing/Power/Toughness?

You obviously cannot say that more Toughness makes Player A more of an asset than player B. After all, Toughness does not mean Armor, which is all that matters. Similarly, all the defense in the world is worth much less than good dodging ability. Same is obviously true for Vitality.

And how would you compare someone with Power/Toughness/Vitality to someone who has Healing/Power/Toughness? Or to someone with Precision/Power/CD?

Also, if having 41% less stats on your armor is enough, and anything over that is excess, wouldn’t it mean the game is flawed, because the content is too easy, or that there shouldn’t even be that “extra” 69% stats in the first place.

41% less results in the remainder being 59%, by the way.

I was just thinking of it being a fun past time, just as in every other game out there..

It can be fun if you take it the right way.

But there will also always be those who take it the wrong way. Including:

  • Wanting ranks in guilds due to dueling success
  • Wanting demotions in guilds due to dueling results
  • Discounting advice based on the person’s dueling results

I can totally see duels being a fun thing to do in guilds. Something like a Weekly or Monthly guild duel tournament or the like.

I think we’ve been through this many times already. No. Simply ask the person what armor he’s wearing if you want to know. Also dueling is a bad idea as people with huge egos will just ask for 1v1 to settle personal vendettas.

That’s an aspect I never thought of! But now that you mention it, I can totally see people insisting on getting ranks or demoting certain people based on outcomes of 1v1s. Stuff like “Well he sucks at PvP, so why is he leading our squad?”

Believe it or not, people have difficulty with the notion that knowledge and skill are two different things.

People can change the skins of their weapons, so inspect doesn’t do anything for that. Especially since a lot of people are doing it.

Inspect has, on the other hand, a lot of negative sides. Mostly in the form of elitists selecting people for their dungeons based on gear. Which can result in being excluded if you don’t have Exotics. Or being excluded because some of your gear is MF based. Heck, you could be excluded because of your choice of weaponry.

And really, it doesn’t take too long to whisper a dude going “I saw your weapon/armor and thought it was cool, what skin is that?”

So from your second hand experience we are suppose to go back itno caves hutning mammoth?

Ill update this thread tomorrow

I just think that it’s part of the game that there needs to be room for error. As long as you can fix it, that is. Took Diablo II literally years to add in a respec option. Before that, if you happened to screw up your character, you had to remake it. And you were capped at 8 characters per account. And boy, were there ways to screw up: you might have spent stats that were unnecessary, or you might have leveled skills that later on are lackluster. And the results were equally horrific: You might end up not being able to wear your armor, or you might end up not being able to equip your weapon. Or you might end up with a set of skills that leaves you dealing weak damage. Combine all those and you have a very high potential for a situation where your character ends up being literally waste of space.

If you ask me, running around with optimized traits and gear should be something you achieve on your own, not something some programmer somewhere achieved for you.

As an example, I’ve spent time considering different combinations of Runes and traits to get “ideal” situations for Might, Bleed and Fury. I do think that the time I spent on studying those mechanics is something that has value. And yes, I do think that I “deserve” to have better results than John down the street who did not do the same process.

My point? If you want optimized stats, do it yourself. Some programmer somewhere does it, so obviously you can do it too.

I do have to agree on one point though: The stats are a big vague. However, I do not agree on holding hands in that. We already got the game telling us when a different piece of gear has equal, superior or inferior stats to the one we have equipped. We do not need it to count all the other stuff for us. For example, since armor = defense + toughness, just because your armor has less toughness does not mean that it produces less armor, such as going from Rare Knight’s armor to Exotic Soldier’s armor.

Similarly, some skills are have unusual tooltips, such as all Bleeds. Bleeds only tick per second, so the difference between a 10s and a 10.5s bleed is none at all. The tooltip does not reflect this.

Annoying Red Notifications ( ! )

in Black Lion Trading Co

I actually like this. I don’t play the TP, so any sales that I make are good sales for me. No more need for me to check the tab on the TP, I get a notification.

The new red text at top of the TP window is even more annoying. The one informing you that you need to visit a TP merchant to pick up your stuff. That’s obvious info, and the bright red alert font is unnecessary.

The notification also fixes this issue.

A lot of people probably thought that when you sell on the TP, the coins instantly get deposited into your inventory. Reasonable assumption, considering that you can deposit your items to the TP from anywhere in the world.

Similarly, some people simply posted items and thought that it meant that they had sold them. The notification clears this up, whereas the red text clears up the pickup.

Were Consortium Chests What the BLTP Needed?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Olba.5376

As long as there are enough people buying the chests to make them produce more profit than what ANet would consider a proper price for the more desires items in the chests, they will keep doing it.

And since ANet controls the odds, they can play that game pretty well. All they need to do is make the odds low enough so that a single person buying enough chests to reliably get what they want produces more profits than selling the same items outright. And since they got all the sales data, they got a pretty good idea of how many skins an average person would want out of the chest.

Also, they can make the odds so that the above is true, but also so that the skins will likely be worth so much that the buyer will sell them and re-invest in the chests, creating a loop.

The results? Gem prices go up, goldsink is in full effect and Anet gets profits from the Gem sales.

There’s a coin sink on the gem-to-gold conversion.

It’s basically something they put in to make it harder for people to buy Gems with Gold, then sell those Gems for significant profit whenever ANet puts something on sale in the BLTC.

Remove WvW from a static monthly achievement

Olba.5376

Um… Nope.

The achievement is an achievement. It’s not something that you are entitled to or something that you need to do.

With that in mind, if you’ve chosen the path of not playing PvP at all, then that’s it. You’re going to miss on some content. That’s how it works.

Heck, I don’t plan to ever do dungeons, so my only option for exotic Soldier’s armor is WvW or Karma. I’m also locked out of the monthly achievement due to the dungeon counter on it. Do I make a topic about it on the forums, complaining that the game is anti-solo? No, I don’t. I find alternatives. I got most of the exotic Soldier’s armor with Karma, with the helmet being the only one that is not available.

Change Dailies to Weeklies

in Suggestions

Olba.5376

I think that any mechanic that requires that players log in every single day is a little restrictive to modern day gamers.

Only “requires” if you want the reward. And it’s a pretty small reward. The Karma is very nice, yes, but the coinage and exp? You get more exp from roaming WvW for random event rewards and you can easily spend more than the reward amount from teleporting to different areas for the enemy types.

So I think they should change the daily achievement to be reset on a weekly time frame, so that even if you couldn’t play a day, you could still do twice the amount on the next day and get 2 mystic coins, jugs of karma etc…

Only once have I had the daily reset on me while I was about to finish it. However, that was my fault, as I wasn’t aware of the in-game time: I have the in-game clock showing my own time.

I think the easiest way to do this would be to have the daily reset (similar to how salvage master resets) every time you complete it, but you could only complete it 7 times in one week. That way if say you can only play on the weekends you could get the same amount of rewards as someone who is able to log in every day. It would be the same amount of effort— but gamers would just have more freedom to play when they can to complete the achievement tasks.

Not really a good idea. Personally, I tend to play by the Daily achievement a lot. Once I complete it, I’m done for the day. If we made it your way, I would probably end up doing the 7 dailies in a row and not playing for a whole week. And that’s not what anyone wants.

Deaf players and guilds requiring Vent/TS

Olba.5376

I generally don’t use Ventrilo or the likes in games simply because I prefer to listen to music and I don’t like talking in my room, that makes some awkward situations in the family.

I can see why people prefer it. In-game, it can be a total life saver when you don’t have to use your hands to type stuff in the chat. Out-of-game it is also convenient for the same reason: You can be doing something else and still participate in the talks.

But if you ask me, that’s where it ends. It’s a convenience tool. Not a necessity. There is no such thing as a guild that cannot work without a voice chat, there are only guilds which refuse to do it.

The thing is, guilds are basically heaps of concentrated efficiency. Unless you’re an asset, you’re basically thin air. In this case, the disability has to be outweighed by what you bring to the guild. An otherwise excellent player is worth keeping and a guild that does not see this is isn’t worth much. The thing is, guilds are massive in this game. So most people in the guild are perfectly replaceable.

And let’s look at the game for a bit. There is nothing in the game that requires sounds. So the only reason someone with a hearing disability would be any less of an asset has to come from the outside. And that’s when you start seeing it: it’s the people. The actual leadership skills that they have aren’t that good, so when they’re put into a setting that is outside of the norm, they break down. They can’t do it, so they ignore it and bring the situation back under control by fixing the people issue by, you guessed it, replacing the person that “caused” the problem.

Ummmm, did someone not read way way way above where it was written that in other games (LOTRO) there is an “Anonymous” option on character panel where you can toggle it where no one can inspect you, and if you wish to toggle it off for a friend to inspect your gear you can uncheck this option, takes all of 2 secs.

After the friend or guild member is done inspecting you (possibly to see if they can make you any better gear) you can very easily, check “Anonymous” again so no one can see your gear at all.

WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

If a person doesn’t want to be inspected no one can, if they WANT to allow someone to inspect them, SO be it, it can be done!

Variety and options is the spice of life! Then you can please people who want it and people who don’t.
Simple. Not rocket science.

The thing is, that’s still going to lead to the elitist dungeon monkeys to ostracize people. Because let’s face it, not having your gear on inspect will be taken as it being poor, rather than you having any other reason for it.

And really, all the reasons I’ve seen for inspecting haven’t been convincing. See a cool piece of gear? Well nothing guarantees that the user did not use a transmutation stone, so you’re going to need to ask anyway, unless you already knew the name in the first place.

And let’s be honest, asking someone to allow you to inspect them, if you’re on their friendslist or guild is pretty much the same as outright telling them that you plan to buy them something new.

And honestly, I like working for my own gear. So quite often I would have a big portion of the materials for my next upgrade ready. Having someone dash in and give it to me wouldn’t really be a good thing. I would probably just sell the end product instead.

So I have to endure 4 people running a dungeon, having full traveler’s set? I don’t think so.

I feel like I have the right to check people and know if I can trust them for an hour long run.

If I have the right to call someone a monkey, those will be the ones ruining my dungeon run with their greed for gold.

Sure hope you mean Explorer’s (MF/Pow/Prec) and not Traveler’s (MF/Pow/CD), because the latter is dungeon armor. And if someone already has a full set of dungeon armor, that pretty much tells you that they know how to play.

And by the way, those secondary mods also exist on Knight’s (Tough/Pow/Prec) and Rampager’s (Prec/Pow/CD), which are amongst the most popular armor sets, next to Berserker’s and Soldier’s.

3. Mounts (Optional though, since we have fast travels) but it would be cool if we have mounts.

No to both of these.

Inspect, in any form, is going to be abused by elitist dungeon monkeys.

Mounts don’t really have much of a point. We have way points and all classes get some form of speed boost already.

Reduce RNG Reliance from Special Event Chests

in Suggestions

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

First off, I understand that you need something to generate money Anet and that Black Lion Chests/ Special Event Chests are seen as the best way to do it. However, you also seem to have not learned from the Halloween disaster. The community was ablaze with people stating how worthless it was to buy keys, as the drop rates were so low, and how they would never buy keys again. Your solution: add a Special Event chest that didn’t require a key to open. Really? Yes, it’s a gamble. But it’s a gamble that many in the community are tired of losing, and that means you loosing income. There is however a simple fix to this.

First, get rid of these special event chests and go back to using the Black Lion ones. Right now, they’re useless as the event items aren’t in them.

Second, keep the RNG chance of obtaining the special items. However, add in a special event token that has a 100% drop rate and gives out like 5 at a time. These tokens can be taken to a vendor that has all of the special event items for sale priced from 1-100 or something. That way, players who spend a good deal of money on keys and don’t get any drops, can still go to the vendor and buy something for their effort and not feel like they were completely cheated out of their cash. It’ll bring back a lot of people who vowed to never buy keys again, and even entice people, like me, who didn’t buy a single key to begin with because they didn’t want to throw money into a slot machine, to start purchasing keys.

The thing is, this would lead to people counting the amount of chests they need to buy to get whatever they want from the exchange.

At which point ANet would be better off just putting the event stuff in the Gem store in the first place.

As for the crappy odds, there’s a good reason for it. Chests can be bought with Gems, the skins can be sold for Gold. Obviously, it needs to be so that buying Chests, opening them and selling the contents on the TP yields at most the same amount of Gold as you would get from selling it at the exchange. The opposite is also true: the odds need to be low enough to make it impossible for people to buy Gems with Gold, use those Gems to buy Chests, open them, sell the contents on TP and come out with a consistent profit.

And the only way to make sure that it’s inconsistent at any point is to make the odds low.
