I did have a quick question – does your offhand proc as often as the main hand? For my weapons I put steal health on each, I figured the regen of the healing signet plus the steal health would make my survivability a non-issue.

The proc rate is multiplicative and can proc on hit from either weapon.

With two sigils each giving 10%, you get an overall proc rate of 19%.

It really depends how you think of that bonus to inventory space. While, sure, it’d be nice to have two extra spots, it’d be nicer to not keep losing my different weapons in my inventory when it gets cluttered. Especially if I’m in WvW where I’m switching between staff and something that can handle smaller group combat a bit better. Nothing is more fun than being stuck with my staff when I’m not with the zerg (or worse with just one weapon of a two-weapon set) because my inventory is a disaster.

We have different types of bags for that reason. There’s a bag for equipment pieces, a bag for vendor trash, a bag that doesn’t show up at vendors and is ignored by autosort and bags for crafting material.

Seriously?

The most popular servers already have a ton of people in them. Some faction with a few hundreds people isn’t going to be able to transfer over in full manpower.

And besides, the transfers being free is a pretty big thing for the non-WvW folk. Someone I know transfered over from an NA server to a EU one just to play with me. If the transfer cost gems, she would not have been able to do that, since she was about level 30 at the time, with maybe a gold to her name.

You talk about “pride in your server”, but why that? What pride is there in some moniker that you might have picked for no real reason at all? I know my friend picked Aurora Glade because it sounds a bit like “Aura”, which relates to his in-game nickname. And me? I picked Aurora Glade because my friend was there. And you can bet a ton of money that there are cases where some guild, numbering in dozens or even hundreds, came from another game and chose a server for a similarly arbitrary reason.

Which is why I’ve said before, and still maintain that the biggest issue with warriors is a “vanilla” factor. When using the warrior as a baseline the other classes got similar abilities in function, only improved and spiced up. So while the vanilla cone is an ok treat, it’s pretty bland compared to the triple chocolate fudge with caramel, marshmallow and peanutbutter ice cream sunday sitting next to it…. being spoonfed to you by a topless college cheerleader.

But what if I think that the triple chocolate fudge with caramel, marshmallow and peanutbutter ice cream sunday is too sweet and a topless college cheerleader would just detract from the eating?

I like vanilla ice cream.

The game has dyeable armor and you can even swap the armor skins at will. That feature is a pretty big thing for a lot of people.

Being able to wear clothes in combat would, in parts, undo that in full.

And honestly, I doubt anyone wants to see a bunch of characters running around in their underwear. Because that’s what would happen.

But yes, an option to automatically put on town clothes when you enter a town would be nice. Another thing I see a lot of people talking about is some kind of Town Cloth storage system. That would be good too.

It’s always worked that way as far as I know.

In your first example, the trait cleared the burn; in your second, the trait cleared the cripple. Assuming you’re talking about Charge, I’m sure if you checked the tooltip for the resulting swiftness buff from the second example, you’d see that its duration is the sum of the baseline swiftness buff plus the trait-specific swiftness buff.

I agree that fractals shouldn’t be part of the monthly achievement only because they are meant for level 80 characters. I know it will scale up lower level characters but it doesn’t make them near as good as an actual level 80 character so not only will it be that much harder for a lower level character to complete the achievement but also hard to find a group that will take them along. Dungeon runs as part of the monthly isn’t a bad idea since they are a big part of PvE.

It doesn’t take even close to a month to get to level 80. And with a guild and the upscaling, you should be fine.

I’m impartial to having the WvW kills as part of the monthly as well since WvW is a PvP activity and there is a PvP monthly achievement as well so why not have this objective in there instead.

Actually, for all intents and purposes, WvW is PvE. In case you missed it, the PvP achievement is all about sPvP. And sPvP is different, as everyone gets the same gear, same level, all the traits and skills unlocked.

… I don’t want to do dungeons.

Can you please make all the dungeons runs into events?

I feel that I am being forced into doing dungeons, which I don’t want to do. I feel that I am dissuaded from exploring the world and finding new, beautiful places in the world of Tyria.

Can I please have no PvP, no WvW and no dungeon options for my monthly?

I realize this is probably an attempt at sarcasm, however you seem to be missing the entire point of monthly achievements:

1. Give short/mid term goals for players to achieve to provide incentive to keep playing.

2. Encourage players to experience different areas of the game to help keep areas populated.

Having fotm as the encouraged dungeon breaks that system. There is already so much encouragement (best loot etc.) to do fotm that it’s already making it hard to find groups to do other content. Which in turn makes the monthly a disincentive to playing because I have no choice and have to repeatedly do a singular dungeon to meet those goals.

Well yes, I was being sarcastic. Guess I didn’t pour out enough of it.

Trust me, I am all for the monthlies having different stuff. I would have never tried WvWvW without the monthly. I would have never laughed my butt off at the sight of my Warrior hurling barf due to overdose of Candy Corn while on Swiftness.

And let’s be honest, the issues with the Fractals, such as people only doing Fractals, is more an issue with the playerbase and less the Fractals itself. After all, there will always be some place that is deemed as the “best”.

The non-grinding philosophy has failed

Olba.5376

From what I can see right now in the game, the non-grinding philosophy of A-Net has failed. People grind events for karma, grind dungeons for armors, grind for catching up with the storyline requirement.

It’s impossible to have a game where people don’t do the same things over and over but still somehow keep playing longer than a couple months.

Well there are people from different backgrounds.

For someone who’s used to ridiculous grinding, such as in older RPGs (I am looking at you, Diablo 2!) are rather used to it. However, there’s plenty of people who never even had a proper chance or reason to play those games. There’s plenty of people who’s main game time is spent on a console. Now console games play very differently. Nintendo is a whole company who’s been making millions for decades making casual games and systems. RPGs on the console, such as Final Fantasy, lacked a grinding element, unless you wanted to have “everything”.

Of course, the whole achievement thing has kinda made it all crumble. They can always get a small quantity of people to buy their game just by sticking in a platinum “Do everything” achievement.

But yes, the OP looks like someone who’s used to single player RPGs. Those are mostly a console thing. Not really a wonder though: GW is pretty much the only MMORPG out there that is not running a subscription or an f2p.

A far better solution would be to let crafters have far more say in the output of what they craft, and having exclusive stat spreads (that are useful) to crafting. Max level crafting also needs to not be so crazy expensive. You’ve spent time and money to get to 400, and barring a few things, is still cheaper to buy gear or do runs.

Max level crafting is mostly expensive due to Orichalcum and Globs of Ectoplasm. The former is much rarer than any other metal due to lack of nodes and unusual node respawns, whereas the latter is expensive as it only comes from Salvages. And guess where most rares in the game currently go? Straight into the Mystic Forge, where they’re turned to thin air, exotic or precursors.

And let’s be realistic for a moment. Crafting of gear will never be profitable on a large scale, for a few simple reasons. Firstly, because of how the gear works. Fine stuff can be resold, whereas Masterworks, Rares and Exotics cannot. This results in a lot of people using mostly stuff they get from Personal Story or with Karma until level 80. And a lot of people prefer to outright skip the Rare armor in favor of Exotics. And lastly, most people who wear exotics got theirs from a dungeon.

The fact it’d be a gem store item means it wouldn’t be cheap.

That’s a subjective opinion. For people who regularly spend RL money on Gemstore, it might not be expensive.

Heck, take a look at the Makeover items. A lot of people were thinking they would cost a minimum of 500 Gems.

And let me point out that there are Exotics, not Legendaries, not even Precursors, which cost so much that you would have to make the unbinding item cost several thousand Gems before it would be an “expensive” move, if we’re talking using the same weapon on multiple characters. For example, all Corrupted exotics.

and what exactly would make it a problem and not a solution?

Why have soulbinding at all if it essentially does nothing?

Crafting benefits, extra Signet Slot

Olba.5376

I know many people hate WoT’s, so I’ll keep it short and crisp.

1. Crafting is dull and not rewarding in this game (except for leveling alts). Fast EXP-gain isn’t really a reward in a game, where one levels so fast (too fast imho).
As so many people claimed so many times: Simply buying the stuff you need from the TP and sell all the stuff you don’t need (MyFo, etc.) is hands down the cheaper way.

So, for a small compensation and kind of sweetener: Just add crafting-benefits, like in other MMOs. This sounds dull, I know. But this would be the easiest way (contrary towards stuff like loot-table adjustments, unrepairable equipment, dailies, etc. to add some spice.

Crafting is entirely voluntary and it’s mostly a convenience thing. Using the stuff that you find rather than buying to make your gear.

2. Almost every class has these funny little things (all but Mesmer and Engineer).
Imagine for a moment: Next to the Elite-button, there is a small button (sized like the weapon-swap-button on the left).
This slot is only for signets and Mesmer- and Engineer-equivalents (f.e. “pets” [Illusion/Robot] or simply also signets)

Why this idea? Most classes have ~4 signets (and sometimes healing-signets on top), which are diverse, fun… but most of the time not used because other Utilities are more important and there are only three slots. Also they remain passive most of the time, so it’s nothing that would confuse somebody or need a button as big as the Utility-ones.

It would add a little bit more diversity, buff some traits, give people something more “to do or consider to do” in combat.

I’m against this. It would cause some pretty severe balance issues, mostly with classes that have a signet as a healing skill.

And besides, there are already skills that benefit from using Signets as much as possible. Guardians/Mesmers have a trait that cures Conditions on Signet use, Elementalists have a trait that allows maintaining the passive effect after you activate a Signet, Thieves got a trait that gives Initiative and recharge speed, Rangers get the active effects for free on a trait.

Heck, the only professions that don’t benefit from activating Signets are Warrior and Necromancer. Warriors get a trait for the passive effects, plus they already got some pretty delicious active effects, such as full adrenaline, total condition removal and a 50% uptime for Fury, Might and Swiftness.

And let’s be honest, some of the Necromancer Signets are pretty nice. Plague is useful when you’re fighting against a single enemy that puts out a lot of conditions, such as a Champion and Undeath is good when you’re doing WvW or just plain old group activities.

As a Warrior player myself, I see pretty good synergy for the Signets we get. Healing Signet with Signet Mastery is our fastest heal, not to mention that it works excellently in a bleed spec. Signet of Fury allows you to use two Burst skills in a row, so that’s excellent if you wanted to do a glass cannon Burst build, such as Killshot. Signet of Stamina allows more dodging, plus it gives a nice synergy with Stick and Move, not to mention the full condition wipe on activation. Signet of Might can be used for burst damage, or to trigger Berserker’s Might. The only Signet that doesn’t get much use on a Warrior is Dolyak.

After recently acquiring a legendary weapon, I’ve become very interested in using it on my alts. I have two suggestions.

1. Add an “unbinder” item to the gemstore that turns “soulbound” items back into “soulbound on equip”.

2. Make legendary weapons account bound.

1. No, I don’t think so. If it was too cheap, it would result in people recycling all of their armors through different characters. If it was a bit more expensive, then people wouldn’t use it at all, unless the item in question was much more expensive to re-acquire.

2. This I can understand, considering that most people would only ever get a single legendary.

ImagoX is making some very good points.

As humans, it would seem right to us that a password like Chr1$tmAs would be secure: it looks complex. However, for a machine, it’s just a string of signs: the actual difference between a number and a letter is minimal.

We get told to avoid passwords that are words or personal details. The words part is simple: Most of us would just pick some random 5-8 letter word and be done with it. The personal details part is to avoid people guessing your password just by knowing your birthday or when you got married.

What we never get told is that the longer the password, the better. There is one simple way to avoid the “Don’t make your password a word” thing: Making it multiple words. By having a few words that are seemingly unrelated stringed to a password that is long, you make it pretty much impossible to brute force.

XKCD does a good job of pointing this out in a funny, easy-to-understand manner:

Also, if your GW2 account, or any game-related account is getting hacked and your stuff is gone, it’s a whole different ballgame. Most likely? You shared your password with a friend for convenience reasons and they might have shared it on, until it reached someone who decided they would rather take your stuff than work for you. Of course, if you’re one of those people who buy gold or items from a third party site, then yes, you’re very likely to get attacked. After all, a good portion of those sites function from botting and hacking.

Honestly, I don’t really get all the dislike towards the Ascended gear.

People dislike that it makes Exotic gear useless. Yes, it will make Exotic gear not-top-tier anymore. Yes, that looks just like what a lot of MMORPGs do.

The thing is, the Exotic gear is already overpowered. And let’s be serious here, if they had implemented the Ascended gear and FotM from Day 1, no one would have complained. And let’s be honest, a few months after all the Ascended gear will be implemented, no one will be complaining. And anyone who buys the game after that point won’t be complaining either.

What I think people dislike about the Ascended gear is not the gear itself. It’s not even that their Exotics were made “useless”. It’s that people take the addition of the gear as something that implies a future, similar upgrade. But then again, there’s nothing to back that up. There never was anything to back up the contrary, except ANet’s word. And ANet is a company looking to turn a profit, so their word is questionable at best.

Maybe it's too late, but how about this?

And comparing pricing of stuff like Cultural Armor to WvW Exotics, you would be lead to believe that the amount of Badges of Honor would end up being like 1,500 or so.

And even then, what does that mean? Worst case scenario, it’s just someone who likes running with the zergs a lot. Best case scenario, you have someone who’s dedicated to WvW and has gotten his badges not by following the horde but leading it.

I would have to disagree that the focus “has to” shift from hardcores to casuals. What is shifting is the variety of people playing video games.

I was speaking from a developer’s perspective.

Things like Facebook and Wii opened gaming to casual players. Heck, Wii is a massive success while having inferior hardware in comparison to Xbox 360 or PS3, which would go to show that the casual playerbase is significant, considering that Xbox and PS3 got some notorious hardcore communities like Tekken, Halo and Final Fantasy.

The same is true of free-to-play games. Those made it so that people who were willing to put money in didn’t have to play as much as some other people, while everyone got the game itself for free.

Heck, microtransactions and free-to-play both cater to the casual player and both are current trends in development.

What GW2 did differently was making an MMORPG that does not have free-to-play schemes and no hardcore grinding. Basically an MMORPG that is made with casuals in mind. And considering that catering to casuals is the current trend, it’s not a big surprise.

In my opinion, hardcore denotes a player that is:
Dedicated to a game
Masters the mechanics of that game (whether it be gear or skill, or event a little of both)
Seeks gratification through time by progressing to become better

Fair points. The way I see it is that the “hardcores” in GW2 are people who are going for Legendaries and those who mainly do sPvP.

As you said, RPGs have been very number-driven for quite a long time. Only recently have we seen RPGs where knowledge of the mechanics and “skill” plays a major role. And I’ll be honest, I love the change. I loved Final Fantasy XIII because when I got back to it after a months of inactivity, I got beaten by a random encounter because I forgot the fine details of the mechanics. I loved PvP in Diablo II that depended a lot on reflexes.

However, just like many RPG players, I find games that are based only on skill to be dull after a while. I like playing Counter-Strike or Tekken in short bursts here and there, but that’s it.

Oh please.

Using terms such as “hardcore gamer” while referring to yourself makes you look rather silly.

Needing vertical progression as a “hardcore”? Clearly untrue, considering that Counter-Strike is one of the most popular online games ever and it has no progression whatsoever.

The thing is, Guild Wars 2 isn’t your dime a dozen MMORPG. It’s not a numbers game. It’s not a game where you play to the maximum level, then farm until you get hemorrhoids and voila, every bit of content is now trivial because of how powerful you are. In fact, just the way sPvP is implemented tells that ANet is planning a very different route of GW2. An MMORPG as a competitive game, lining up with stuff like Star Craft 2, Counter-Strike and Tekken? Totally unheard of. Reason being that pretty much all MMORPGs only have a PvP that depends on your gear and level.

GW2 is not a game about gear. It’s a game about mechanics. You spend time in PvE to get familiar with the mechanics, such as dodging, and getting pretty armor. You’re then rather expected to move to the PvP aspect, where you hone your “skill” of the mechanics.

Sadly, for most MMORPG players, this concept is totally new. Majority of all MMORPGs depend on gear rather than some measure of “skill”. In fact, I would guess that a lot of the people who play MMORPGs do it because of the concept where putting more times in means you’re better than someone who put in less time. However, that concept was totally trashed by F2P MMORPGs.

You have to realize that the gaming industry itself is evolving. It’s becoming more and more main stream. This means that the focus has to shift from the hardcores to the casuals. And with that, the concept of time equaling power has to be trashed, because casuals won’t go for that. However, by making the power be about “skill”, you end up with a setting where even the casuals can participate to a great extent.

The problem with skill-based systems is that it’s a logarithmic progression. Once you get past a certain point, it becomes a game of making mistakes. The one who makes the worse mistakes loses.

That foot traffic (as people use racial cities again as travel hubs) would bring some more immersion into the game. I haven’t visited my ancestral home in ages. (Why waste the teleport fee to get there and back again?) You can still pay money to jump instantly across the world to any waypoint.

Teleports within zones being free would just result in people going to the edge of the zone, walking to the next zone, porting to the edge until they get to either destination, essentially free of charge.

There’s tons of waypoints, so if you want them to be free, the only realistic option would be for them to cut down the number of waypoints to like 1 per zone.

You’re not really skipping content, just leveling faster. You don’t skip past PS steps, it just means you don’t have to repeatedly 100% maps, or do renown hearts you’ve already done half a dozen times.

I have 5 level 80 chars. I’ve finished the race-specific part on the rest, but although I’d love to get all to 80, repeating Gendarran, Lornar’s, Field of Ruin, etc etc over and over is just not appealing. Right now I’m using crafting to level up those final alts, essentially buying levels.
Having the option to level through skill points rather than gold would be a huge benefit to anyone wanting a good range of characters rather than just a single one.

Well that’s why I said you should at best only be allowed to level up using skillpoints of the same race and order. Because unless you’re deliberately going for 100% map completion, it’s perfectly plausible that you get to level 80 without ever seeing the starting zones of the other four races.

The Order requirement was there just to make sure that you actually do play the content and to “penalize” for skipping a large portion of the game. Because just having a single high level character that you like playing does not warrant handwaving a massive portion of the unique content that you can only experience by playing a specific race.

Also, you did not address what would happen if you mined lower tier materials. For example, mining copper with an Orichalcum Pick. And please do not answer something like “Well, you would obviously get more materials per node”. Because that’s no different from abolishing the pick/axe/sickle quality altogether.

Also, I don’t really like the idea about extracting upgrade and keeping items. Mostly because of random Rares and Exotics that might have pretty good runes. And it would put a price for Karma, because you could buy the 42,000 Karma armor and extract the Superior Runes and sell them on the TP. And that’s exactly what ANet wanted to avoid.

While I can see that being able to keep the upgrades would make people more willing to use Major Runes/Sigils in their stuff, I can also see it making level 60-79 content too easy, as you would be able to put your Superior Runes and Superior Sigils and know that you won’t lose them or the armors. Would result in people using Runes/Sigils from their level 80 character to boost their level 60s, then swapping those Runes/Sigils back to their main once they’re done.

Well…

It’s not really a good idea. The game has multiple races, multiple professions, etc.

However, it could work, if it was restricted a lot. Firstly, you should only be able to use skillpoints from the same race. That is, skillpoints on a level 80 Human can only be used on a Human character. Secondly, you should only be able to use skillpoints from the same Order.

This way, you have to at least level up your character to the point where they join an order. Also, if you wanted to skip later content, by being in the same order and the same race, you would have done most of it already.

Because it’s just disrespectful to ask for an ability to skip content that the developers made so amazingly diverse.

(1) Implement Free For All PvP, everywhere
(2) Implement a reputation system with colors representing a character’s representation based on their moral and ethical actions within the game world.
(3) Implement a “loot drop” system, so that when you slay a foe he risks losing part of his inventory.
(4) Implement a “bounty” system. So players can put bounties on the heads of other players and be financially rewarded for claiming a bounty.

1) Nope. The GW2 community is very PvE oriented, so this would never happen. Also, what I have seen of open world PvP in games without subscription is that it tends to result in a lot of griefing of lower levels. That and it eventually diminishes to the high level people having “PvP spots” where they gather.

And lore-wise, the game is about every race uniting to fight the dragons. How’s that going to go with open-world PvP where any race can kill any race?

2) We already have Karma?

3) So basically you want to PK people and then get their items? That’s a surefire way for griefing.

4) Not a good idea. Firstly, where would the reward come from? Secondly, this would result in the rich folk having even more power. After all, if you piss off someone who’s got hundreds of Gold and they put a big bounty on your head, you can bet your face that you won’t be safe outside any city. And it would make the guild part of the game even more elitist. Can you imagine being told that either you represent Guild X or they put a 100 Gold bounty on you? Heck, I could totally see Guilds making a habit of putting a 10-50 Gold bounty on any member who is not representing.

You have just described sPvP. And for those who are into PvP, skipping the gear and everyone having equal gear is part of the fun.

Unfortunately, this utopian game would likely fail miserably.

As an MMORPG it might. Sadly, the whole rewards thing has been engraved to people’s minds. Now you got “achievements” in just about every game.

But the rewards should also not be so crappy that it’s not worth doing.

And why should this “worth” connect with the rewards? Is it because you have some monetary goal in the game that takes precedence over other content? In that case, you have no right to complain about the events, they’re not your priority.

You know what? I had a lot of fun the other day. I played with my friend, who was level 47 at the time. We went through parts of her Personal Story and Timberline Falls. We played for several hours. At the end of it, she was level 56. And let me tell you, that was more fun that I’ve had in this game in quite a while.

You do realize events scale?

Only based on quantity of people and even then it’s not a linear progression.

Not really, as most people aren’t regularly doing them, and they are a relatively small part of doing events (usually after a longer chain of them).

And that’s even assuming that events are a significant source of the gold in the game

Most people aren’t doing them because of the rewards. Bump those up well enough and you get the people there. If you don’t, well then why start at all?

And we already have a website that tracks Dragons, if you boost the events you might end up with a similar site tracking most events.

And yes, I still think that doing anything in the game should not be about the rewards. That’s like doing your homework only because you know you get a candy bar for it, rather than doing it to learn.

So you’re saying that ANet should add in better rewards, thus speeding up inflation and requiring additional coin sinks just because the players are stuck-up, efficiency-minded drones who refuse to do anything that doesn’t give them a tangible reward?

Complaining about inflation when trying to insult people who care about getting things.

Well done in the irony department.

Oh but I’m not complaining about the inflation. It’s just that if you boosted the rewards, the inflation would just catch up and the same thing would repeat.

Which would make all the rewards you get seem even less significant. Which would just repeat the same topic, except now everything would be worth even less.

Boosting the rewards does not lead to fun. It should not lead to fun. That’s like saying that you cannot have fun without rewards. And that’s pretty screwed up, if you ask me.

Getting 2x the reward for something that takes 2x the amount of time isn’t going to cause inflation.

It won’t take 2x the time if there’s 4x the people doing it.

And getting 2x the rewards for something you previously got 1x the rewards for is still going to affect things.

Exactly. I like the idea of epic events but there is simply no reason to do them!

Crowds of people are still participating in dragon events. Why? Because they know where they will happen and when they will happen and they know they will be reworded for completing it.

So you’re saying that ANet should add in better rewards, thus speeding up inflation and requiring additional coin sinks just because the players are stuck-up, efficiency-minded drones who refuse to do anything that doesn’t give them a tangible reward?

Yeah, what a great idea.

It’s honestly pathetic to see that people seem absolutely unable to have fun in the game if it does not come with a substantial amount of gold as a side dish.

What happened to doing difficult things because the difficulty makes things fun?

This game does not need more content. Because it would be enough to better use existing one.

What ANet should do is better directing people where and when to go and what to do.

This is the real and I think the most major issue with gw2 right now. And I think that they know about it.

I disagree.

A lot of the events and Veterans/Champions are fun because there’s not a massive zerg doing them. If you added some kind of list of all the on-going events and/or spawned Veterans/Champions, you would be very hard-pressed to find an event that did not have someone else doing it already.

Also, Group Events make things more realistic. A group of centaurs takes over a town and a single person is able to fight them and retake it? I think that’s not cool.

I like Group Events. I mostly play either solo or with a single friend, so I get to do a lot of avoiding of Group Events. However, whenever I’m playing with a friend, doing one of those Group Events, or killing a Champion is fun.

The most fun I’ve had in the game in a while? Well, we found a Champion Troll in a cave somewhere with my friend and must’ve spent like 15 minutes killing it, most of it consisting of kiting the troll in a small space with ranged weapons.

On the subject of Trait Icons, I think it’s ‘inefficient’ simply because it is annoying to remember what each number does rather than looking at a picture. I understand that each number breaks into it’s own tier, but it becomes confusing when looking within each tier for a specific trait. I have to mouse over most traits when adjusting my build just to find the right one. I don’t believe that is more efficient than simply looking at a picture and going ‘Yep, that’s the one.’ Why should I have to memorize each number instead of it being an easy to recognize picture? If enough people liked the numerals, there could be an option to go back to them if need be.

Well what makes for an easy-to-recognize picture? It’s all about memory.

After all, while you can give pictures to traits that do stuff like increase Sword damage or bleed duration, what about something like Furious Reaction? Or Focused Mind? Clearly you cannot have icons that would represent those traits just from the picture. Thus, you’re back to having to remember the picture that associates with the trait. And voila, nothing has changed.

On the subject of Easy Trait Resets, of course there would be location restrictions on resetting your traits, but it wouldn’t be nearly as restrictive as it is currently. For instance, one could reset traits at any waypoint that is not in a dungeon or in any entirely non-combat instance, like towns. I will update the OP to clarify this point. Thank you for bringing it up.

“Towns”? What about the encampments in Orr? Or the towns that get raided by events, like Nebo Terrace?

And still, I believe that if you granted the ability to change your traits anywhere, people would be asking for the ability to change the mods on their gear anywhere. And then they would be asking for Soulbinding to be removed from the game.

So basically you folk are all upset because ANet did not phrase the sale as “up to 50%”?

And honestly, making larger bundles cheaper is a simple sales tactic. After all, if all the bundles were the same price, then the only reason to buy the larger ones would be if you were planning to buy that many in the first place, rather than to get an even better deal, which would reduce their sales.

Heck, I used to play a game where they routinely did this with every single item, every single sale.

I disagree. I think the numbers are great. How the hell would I refer to a trait on a forum or in a text-based messenger if all they had was a pretty picture, a name and a colour? Right now, I can just say “Tactics IX”, but your system would make it so that I would need to say “Quick Breathing”. Of course, in most cases I already do that.

“QB” maybe?

Well, that point is rather secondary to begin with. Of course, lingo like that will happen in the profession-specific subforums. Personally, I do a lot of talking with friends who don’t play Warriors, so I tend to just run with a description, in this case something like “A warhorn trait that speeds up CD and converts conditions to boons”.

And besides, I don’t quite get the OP’s point anyway. Why is it inefficient? It’s pretty simple, 6 traits for Adept, 4 for Master, 2 for Grandmaster, numbered 1-12.

Problem with legendary is not that they are hard to get, but that only hard part is have enough gold. Someone who want can buy gold with real money and he will not have problem of getting legendary. When I see someone had legendary I don’t think he worked hard to get it, first thought is that he bought gold or use some early bugs to get legendary.
Second problem is with prices, month ago I checked how much more gold I need for my legendary, at that time I need 480 gold more. Today after whole month of collecting things I need if I check how much more gold I need, then I miss 560 gold more. So after one month, not that I didn’t do any progress, it is worst, need more then one month ago.

Fact is that there’s just no way to do it properly. After all, we have the ability to indirectly buy Gold with RL money.

And let’s be realistic, any so-called “epic and difficult” quest just won’t be good. Either it’s too difficult and no one gets it done and we get similar complaints, except now it’ll be about the difficulty rather than Gold, or it’s not difficult enough and a lot of people get it, making it very unLegendary.

And really, if you look at all the requirements for a Legendary, you actually gotta play a lot of the game in a really intensive manner. Map completion, lots of WvW, lots of dungeons, lots of crafting, lots of Mystic Forge. Whoever has a Legendary will have done all of those things.

Easy Trait Reset -* Currently, one must visit a trait manual vendor to reset ones traits. This is simply inconvenient, and actually costs more coin because of potential travel costs. Simply adding the reset ability on the hero panel page is much more convenient.

Not everything in the game should be convenient. I think traits are one of those things.

Because let’s face it, if you could swap out your traits with pre-made templates you saved while anywhere on the map, you would dilute the characters. The only thing that you would have as a permanent customization would be your armor. And as much as I like to experiment with builds, I don’t like the idea of people swapping out their build for every single specific situation.

Guess what would happen next? You would have people complaining that the reset of the traits costs too much, just like we now have people complaining about waypoint. If you could reset traits anywhere, they would be kinda like waypoints: a 3.5 silver cost that you can and will pay a lot.

Oh and let’s not even get to people asking about some kind of system to swap out the stats of their armor and weaponry.

Trait Icons - When selecting Major Traits, it is inefficient to link numbers to effects. Instead, simple icons can be used to better represent traits. Additionally, trait tiers could be represented by boarder color. For example, Adept Traits could have a bronze boarder, Master Traits could have a silver boarder, and Grandmaster Traits could have a gold boarder. Admittedly, this request may consume quite a lot of time and would require that many art assets be produced.

Also, the numbers have a distinct meaning. For example, just by looking at the numbers I can easily evaluate whether my choice in a specific trait line is based on a good Adept-Master-Grandmaster balance, or whether I’m using more Adept traits.

Trait Descriptions - Many traits lack simple information that is quite relevant to their use or potency. Take for example Symbolic Power, a Guardian Trait claiming to bolster the damage of all symbols. The effectiveness of this trait and others like it is left to question, as all that is stated is simply that it increases the damage that symbols do. This is should be a relatively simple fix to implement and would greatly improve the quality of the descriptions of many traits.

The whole thing with descriptions in the game is a bit of a weird thing.

There are some things which should be clarified to make things clear. Others should be left as they are, so that we don’t end up in a ridiculous, number-crunching game.

Um @ above poster. Once they add in ascension weapons, legendary weapons are getting a boost in stats as well so they will be more powerful meaning you HAVE to grind those items if you don’t want to be at a disadvantage.

Nowhere did they state that they plan to make Legendaries better than the Ascended gear. And let’s be honest, doing that wouldn’t make much sense, considering that Legendaries are just top tier weaponry with pretty skins.

The whole point with bumping up the Legendaries when they introduce Ascended gear is so that they don’t lose their value. After all, unlike Exotics, Legendaries take a crapton of time and resources to get.

silver to gems too expensive

Most players who buy gems would rather get more gold for them.

Well of course they would.

That’s like asking someone whether they would like their money to be free or to cost 10% of its value per bill. “Good day sir. Would you like more money for your money today?”

Gems too expensive

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Permanently reduce the gem cost of everything. Problem solved.
Ok id better explain. Right now the gem to gold ratio is high so less people will want to change gold for gems. On the other hand people paying real cash wont want to buy gems to exchange for gold because the gem to gold ratio is still not high enough for them. So the best way out for Nexon to make money and for the penniless players to continue to change gold to gems is to drop the gem cost of everything.
I doubt anyone wants to use real cash to pay for gems just to buy your chests and other items by the way, they’d rather exchange gems for gold. At least I would.

Cheapening the items won’t help.

The gold-per-gem ratio will always be too low. Otherwise there would be no Gems to trade, someone would have bought them.

If you suddenly cheapened everything in the shop, you can bet your rear that the gold-per-gem ratio would only rise because of it. Thus effectively undoing your change. After all, the price that we see has to be just a bit above what the average buyer is willing to pay, assuming that it’s not currently on the rise.

And since the Gem Exchange does not generate new Gems or new Gold, this means that the gold-per-gem ratio will always stay bad. After all, it’s got the ANet enforced fee to counter people reselling Gems for profit. Because let’s face it, if the prices are not high enough, the people with Gems won’t sell. And if they won’t sell, then the prices for buying Gems aren’t going to go down. And if they don’t go down, there won’t be buyers.

The Gem Exchange was never intended as something that a person who buys gem with $ would primarily spend on. It’s simply something you use to sell whatever leftover Gems you have. And on the other side, it’s meant to be luxurious. After all, it’s all vanity items, small boosts and like two convenience items.

not a “long weekend” it has taken me since launch to get what i have now and that’s fine. However watch anets manifesto. They said they wanted to make a fun game where people don’t feel like they are grinding (I swung a sword, I swung a sword again) endlessly. I feel like enough of a nobody in real life with everyone around richer. would have been nice to feel like a hero in a game. anyone with loads of real money can just buy the “awesome looking sword” while the rest of us are once again nothing.
how cool you think that legendary is gonna be a year from now when all the rich people are laughing at you because they’ve had all of them for over a year.
a game shouldn’t be about how much money you have in real life. but whatever looks like I’m the minority.

To me it looks like you’re not after the skin of the weapon, but rather the status that comes with it.

Because if you just wanted a cool-looking weapon, you probably would have already found another skin that you think looks awesome and is much easier to get.

And a lot of the Legendaries that you see floating around here bought with Precursors that were much cheaper, materials that were much cheaper.

If you ask me, it’s totally kittened up that the supposedly rarest item in the game already exists at all just a few months into the game. If you ask me, the rarest items should be something that only a few people ever go for. Right now it seems like we have tons of people going for Legendaries. Heck, I would be totally cool if ANet decided to delete every single existing Legendary and Precursor one day, just to make them rare again.

Yeah…..it’s irresponsible to ask gamers to give the amount of time it takes for a legendary.

Hint: It’s called “legendary” because it’s not something everyone is supposed to have.

a game shouldn’t be about how much money you have in real life. but whatever looks like I’m the minority.

It’s not. The players with legendaries are not any more powerful than those without. That’s the point. And since we’re talking vanity item here, yes, it should be a show of how much you have spent on the game. After all, it’s not like anyone other than you yourself cares one bit about how much time and effort you’ve put towards the game.

The stats on each “set” is all over the place. For example, I gathered Power/Toughness/Vitality and I think I needed armors from at least three different places. Lucky for me, the skins are all shared.

Of course, they could just offer a specific set with a specific skin at a specific temple. But what if that temple is rarely uncontested? Or what if I like another skin? Worst case scenario, you would have to wait a long time to even buy the armor set, but then you would need to buy a second armor set for teh skin that you like. At 42,000 Karma a piece, that’s 504,000 Karma total.

The reason behind the speed nerf is so that you wouldn’t have as easy of a time running away from mobs. Because let’s be honest, with Stability and some condition removal, you could totally blast through most areas in the game without ever fighting a mob if the speed wasn’t limited while in combat.
