Selling Buying

Hi,

I was wondering about the Tax we pay on the Trading post.

What happends with it?
Is it just to take it out the game?

And why if i place an item i have to pay ..

And if someone made and offer and i “agree to” sell it… i have to pay also.

I think this is kinda stupid.

The tax is a gold sink, so the funds you put in are taken out of the game.

The reason you have to pay at all times is simple:

  1. When you’re selling, you pay so that you won’t be able to use the TP as a storage by placing your stuff at the maximum allowed price
  2. When you’re buying, you pay so that you won’t be able to keep undercutting without consequences
  3. When you’re filling an order, you’re simply putting in a buy order at the price matching the lowest sell price, so the fee is still in place. The reason here is that if you did not get charged the fee, it would pretty much always be cheaper to sell to the lowest buyer than placing it on sale yourself

And the gold sink is working kitten well. Just take a look at most costly items on the TP. Discounting the legendaries, which don’t have an arbitrary value, everything is less than 1000 Gold. For purposes of playing the game, Copper is the low level currency, Silver is the mundane currency and Gold is the investment currency.

Problem is, there’s no alternative option if you wish to trade outside the TP.

Mail doesn’t count as there is no protection there for the buyer or the seller.

Lack of a way to trade outside of the TP is a major flaw.

Why is it a major flaw?

The only useful thing that it disallows is selling items to people you know for cheaper than the TP. And honestly, considering that the result of not having player-to-player trading is the complete extinction of WTS/WTB spammage and scamming, it’s totally worth it.

  1. In Short: Feel awesome at Any level.
  2. In Short: More Dungeons, and Dungeon Finder.
  3. In Short: I want to feel useful. On Any character. And More variety of Skills
  1. What do you mean by “awesome”? The reason leveling is easy in GW2 is because it was one of the basic development principles, to minimize the amount of “grinding”. Heck, even now you pretty much have to go to several areas in your level range to get enough levels to get to the next area. And there are dungeons which you can play at a lower level, so the problem lies more in the players than the content.
  1. I haven’t played WoW, but from what I’ve read around, Dungeon Finder gets a mixed response. Some like that it eliminates the need to hunt for groups, while others hate that the resulting groups are often subpar.
  1. You can feel useful, you just have to know what to do. I got a level 80 Warrior, and I feel really useful knowing that I can provide my team with tons of Fury, Swiftness and Might, along with pretty decent heals. It all just depends on what you think of as “useful” and how you play your character.

It’s to avoid people from using the TP as a storage.

You could easily set a sell order at 9999g and no one would buy whatever it is that you’re selling.

“They” don’t want you to get legendaries. “They” are a sinister cabal of supertraders, who get together to drink baby blood. It’s how they get their money.

Who are “they”? Nobody knows… except maybe Narkosys.

Well, the whole “the whole market is controlled by a guild of wealthy trade post tycoons” mindset isn’t exactly unfounded, as there have been multiple instances of someone trying to start such a guild.

As long as he doesn’t tell me that it’s not a guild of players, but the gold sellers that are doing it, I’m cool with it.

Oh come on, you people are still going on with this?

The Snowflake trinkets had a pretty good chance of returning majority of the materials you put in. This is not true for regular crafting items, which take 15 fine crafting materials.

And of course the markets will adjust. It doesn’t change the nature of the exploits, which accelerated or perverted the price of a specific item.

Those points don’t stand when the RPG is actually a MMO, you can’t focus on just the story in a MMO you need to give players something to compete and strive for, MMO shouldn’t be completed in 1-2 weeks like in GW2, it should take a lot more time than that. About the story you mentioned, GW2 doesn’t give us that much story in-game,(dungeons, dynamic events, etc) if you wan’t to learn something about the game you have to go google it, other than the personal story of each character which is only fun completing it once, we got no story left in-game.

But that’s exactly the problem. There’s plenty of story in the game, if you bother talking to NPCs, listening to their idle chatter and sticking around in places.

And personally, I think that the first 20 levels of your Personal Story are worth completing multiple times, because that’s when the choices you made at the start are played out. Heck, you pretty much need to play through the Order part three times to see the stories behind the three orders. But once you get to the Pact, it’s all the same.

Honestly, I like GW2 because it tries to break out of the standard MMORPG model. Most MMORPGs keep on pushing new gear, new dungeons, what-have-yous to keep you playing constantly. I don’t think the progression itself is necessary in the game, at least if I take a look at why I leveled my characters. When I got the game, I pretty much played 10+ hours a day for a week and got to level 80. I didn’t get to 80 fast because I thought that’s when the good part starts, but because I knew that there were certain things which I could only really grasp once I had it all unlocked, such as customizing my character to best fit the kind of playstyle I like, a playstyle I would have found while leveling. When leveling my second character, my biggest motivation with hurrying the levels was catching up to my friend, who was already level 20 by the time I started.

Sadly, GW2 has really nice combat. That’s a sad thing, because it breeds the mentality that used to plague single player RPGs: people skip things. Everyone who’s played games since they were like 12 probably remembers times when their favorite game had a cutscene or dialogue and you didn’t even read any of it, as you just wanted to get out there and kill stuff. And that’s really bad. It’s bad because that dialogue is part of the game. A very important part: it’s what makes it an RPG, rather than an action adventure or an FPS.

And that’s what I’m getting at. WvW is separate from the storyline. Same with sPvP. It’s the place where you go to enjoy the combat system and all the things you can do with it. The developers of GW2 are clearly focused on bringing back the RPG aspect to MMORPGs. With that said, it’s really not a big surprise if they handwave WvW. After all, it’s there only as a cookie to cover a very specific subset of players.

You said that GW2 lacks “endgame content”, but did you ever wonder why that’s the case? GW2 lacks endgame content because it’s not a game about endgame content. GW2 is much, much more focused on the world and the story than any other MMORPG. And considering how the areas are spread, clearly they intended for you to play through the leveling process on multiple characters of different races to experience it all.

Add progression to WvWvW.

Guild Wars 2 is explicitly designed to AVOID using “progression” as a speed bump. It is meant to be fun for its own sake, and avoid problems present in other games, my least favorite being the problem that you can’t just jump in and play with your friends; you first have to do the “progression”. In GW2, you can be 80 and acceptably geared within days (if not a day) if you’ve got access to some gold, which you do if you’ve got friends to catch up with and do whatever it is you guys like doing together.

In other words, the lack of “progression” is not a bug; it’s a feature. If leveling up and grabbing loot are really the only things fun for you, there are other games for that. In GW2, the only “grind” available is getting cool skins, particularly legendaries… but those don’t make your numbers go up, they just make your character look cool. GW2 is about the gameplay, not watching numbers go up.

Unrewarded gameplay is meaningless in a RPG, doing the same thing over and over and over no matter how fun it is without getting something out of it becomes boring sooner or later like WvWvW.the whole point of an RPG is the feeling of moving forward with your character. After achieving your desired look in GW2 which takes a week at max, the game becomes boring and there’s nothing to do anymore.

I have to disagree with you.

I think the point of an RPG lies in the world. The characters in it, their backstory, their issues. The world, with its religions, technology and magic. The story, that takes place in that world and with those characters, is what makes an RPG.

After all, RPG does stand for Role Playing Game.

Take any actually good single player videogame RPG. Most people will play it for the story: once they complete it, they move on. It’s generally considered “hardcore” for you to grind the best gear, maximized stats and to go kill every single optional boss. And majority of complaints about these RPGs lies in the characters and the story, not the progression. I have never seen anyone complain that it takes dozens of hours to get maxed stats in Final Fantasy VII, but I have seen people complain about how Squall was a boring main character in Final Fantasy VIII. Or I’ve seen people complain that Roxas did not get enough screentime in Kingdom Hearts II, but I have not seen people complain that it takes, again, dozens of hours to farm Star Charms.

Heck, not having played GW1 kinda scares me: I don’t know any of that ancient history of the world. I got asked about the origin of my character in a Personal Story bit and I had the options of Kryta, Cantha, Ascalon and Elona, and I had to look up to realize that Cantha and Elona were actual regions of the world not present in GW2.

Events:

There are tons of events throughout the world that do exactly what you are talking about. Recently I was in …Sparkfly Fen I think, and I stumbled across a small town overrun by Risen. Every NPC was dead, including the merchants and heart-npc. Clearly, an event had arisen to defend this camp, and the players had failed. It took myself and 3 other players about 10 minutes to clear out the 30-ish risen required to “drive them off” and be able to reuse the town.

Events like these spawn all over the world, that is just one that I can remember immediately. Just because they aren’t huge-scale seiges on capital cities (which are separately instanced zones by the way, so it would be difficult to have queensdale interact with divinity’s reach event-wise), doesn’t mean that there aren’t constantly events going on that are effecting outposts and towns in a negative way.

I was going to say that.

Go to Orr, you’ll see plenty of outposts and camps that have been taken by Risen, or are attacked by Risen. The same happens in other places too, most notably with the Centaurs in Queensdale.

Sadly, the only sign of this takeovers is a contested waypoint. And the reaction most people have to a contested waypoint isn’t “Oh my, the Centaurs are attacking, let’s go beat them!”, but something more like “Ugh, now where’s the closest waypoint?”. Especially true for Orr.

It could be changed by adding colours to the map to designate who is currently holding it. Bandits, Seraph, Lionguard, Risen, Centaurs, the like.

And ideally, you should have some kind of option to trigger the events that allow you to take back a contested waypoint. Of course, if it’s just been raided by the enemy and you lost it, there should be some time before you can do that. But something other than having to wait until one of the NPCs decides that it’s been long enough and it’s assault time.

Seriously?

The Protection thing might have worked… if Warriors did not constantly use their Signet of Rage and the duration was only 10s. Because let’s face it, 20s of Protection once every 48 seconds would be rather ridiculous: it averages out to a 13.75% damage reduction.

And the Physical Training seems quite broken too. You would be making Stomp into a short range Bull’s Charge and you would be making Kick even more pointless than it already is. And Stomp would then be a problem, as you could then use Bull’s Charge or Stomp to bait a stun break out of your opponent, then use the one you did not use and punch out a Frenzy+HB combo.

Look at the greatswords, now look at the staves, now look back at the greatswords. Sadly, your staff isn’t like my greatsword, but if you re-roll to a warrior or guardian, you could have a greatsword like mine./endrant

You get points for using Old Spice.

Other than that, I am rather perplexed by all of this. We’re talking cosmetics, and voluntary ones at that. Not only do you not have to go for it, but you’re asking for them to please you as an individual?

Because let’s face it, if you asked every single player, you would find at that there is no Legendary skin that is not disliked by at least one person. And that’s the problem: it’s subjective.

So some of the people doing the design work decided to put in a few weapons that looked all shiney and, according to most people, hilarious? I think that’s a job well done, actually. After all, just as there are bound to be people who dislike Twilight and Sunrise (not counting those who do because of their popularity or cost), there’s bound to be someone who would go for the most hilarious, most out-of-place weapon possible.

You make a point about the quantities of Greatsword skins against Staff skins, but take a look at the classes that use those weapons. Four classes for both, of which two are shared. Now take a look at the Staff-only and the GS-only classes. Ranger and Warrior against Necromancer and Elementalist. I can guarantee you that the former is much more numerous.

Right conclusion, wrong premise.

The traders don’t bring in materials. In fact, they bring in less than they would by playing the game normally. What they do is they shift them around, usually causing temporary spikes in the pices.

However, since traders are constantly buying and selling in massive quantity, they are taking out a ton of gold from circulation with the TP fees.

At least that’s the situation in high schools in my nation.

1: Tab Targeting. Please fix it to target the NEAREST HOSTILE mob, then cycle outward…and hostile from there. I am sure I’m not the only person to be in a mass fight, kill one mob, press Tab—thinking I’ll get the next closest hostile—and instead get a stag, moa, grub, etc., several mobs out that gets added to the fray.

2: Town Clothes. Yes, I know it’s “for fun” but… (a) as long as there’s only 2 outfits in the store and (b) there’s no point in buying any…I won’t. Now if you set it up so that when we go into a city we are automatically forced into town clothes, I’ll buy some… but only if I have more than two choices. (Yes, I’m exaggerating a bit. It’s for effect.)

  1. You can already change the keybind to be “Nearest Enemy”, which serves almost the same purpose. And honestly, I don’t mind the targeting unhostiles part too much.
  2. Would be nice if you could add an option to automatically change to townclothes when you enter any of the starter cities or Lion’s Arch.

9. Town clothes wardrobe and the skins usable in combat
Currently I see next to no reason to buy one of these; unlike in GW1, they completely clutter up your inventory and you can’t even fight in them. Add armour skin options and Costume maker-like NPCs to towns and many more people will be willing to buy them.

6. Remove magic find from equipment
This one I find very puzzling – what good could ever come with this stat? I’m fine with keeping it on food and other temporary bonuses, but why are you encouraging people to be more selfish and less useful, especially in dungeons?

4. Player render culling/loading time fix
One of the main reasons I don’t play WvW as much as I thought I would in the betas is that it’s incredibly frustrating to run through the countryside and suddenly emerge in the middle of an opposing army. I can sort of understand this in 50vs50 battles, but I had this happen when I was completely on my own, which is just ridiculous.

9. Would rather defeat the purpose of having such an extensive system for changing skins on armor. I could agree on this if we did not have the ability to choose the skin and dye on each piece of armor, though.

6. Choosing MF or not choosing MF is a personal thing. Honestly, what you’re saying isn’t any different from complaining that they should remove Berserker gear because everyone is going glass cannon and thus being useless in dungeons because they die as soon as a mob breathes their way.

4. The culling issue isn’t even close to as easy to fix as most people think.

Thinking of buying full exotic MF gear.

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

The only benefit of having full exotic MF is that your damage will be significantly higher than others

Stop lying. “Magic Find” takes the primary (highest) stat boost of the item. Even if you boost power and precision, you’ll still have way less than a toon with berserker or soldier gear.

Damagewise, Explorer’s is actually equivalent to Knight’s.

And you cannot actually say that the damage mods from Explorer’s will always be inferior to Soldier’s. That depends on the other details, such as Runes, Sigils, Traits and Profession. For example, Soldier’s is more useful to classes that have easy access to Fury, as they have a native high critical rate and thus benefit more from straight Power than Precision. The opposite is obviously also true.

And let’s be realistic for a moment: saying that Knight’s is better than Explorer’s just because Knight’s has Toughness is pretty dumb. The Toughness isn’t going to be of any use in the hands of a dumb player. You could raise the same argument about using Valkyrie Gear against using Berserker’s, too. The extra vitality most likely isn’t going to make someone who dies into someone who doesn’t die, so they’re just reducing their own damage and thus a hindrance to the party.

What’s next, people going to complain that some people use Orbs in their armor rather than Runes?

It’s only going to happen if none of the stats are skewed. If they are, then making a photo like that would be like asking for a myriad topics about balancing the aspects that are not in good balance.

And just trying to hope that the average person reading something like that would realize that there is no means to balance a wealth difference and that the gold-to-gem ratio is only going to go up is pretty much a fool’s errand.

There are a few things that should be pretty obvious.

  1. The more time passes, the more Gold will be earned through Dynamic Events and kills, as Quests, Tasks and Rewards are a one-time thing
  2. The wealth distribution will keep going towards a higher and higher inequality due to profiteers on the Trading Post having more wealth than dozens of average players
  3. The Currency Exchange will keep rising because there’s far more people putting coins into the game than there are people putting gems into it

That leaves the only interesting bits to be the TP purchases and distribution of Professions.

My Big List of Suggestions

Olba.5376

1. Mod responses in the suggestions forum! – I’ve read quite a few suggestions for all sorts of things like class balance, dungeons, trading, etc. Some of them were well thought out and others were “I want this to be WoW” But no matter what, it always irked me that no matter how many threads on different subjects there were, there was never a response from Arenanet.
Doubt that they even read our thoughts on the game creeps in when I finally see a red post for the first time in countless threads and I see “Moved to the right forum” or “Threads now locked”. Any sort of response would be great, whether it be “We’re thinking about it,” “It’s in development,” “Good idea!”, or simply “This won’t happen”
If the problem is they don’t actually have anyone to look around the suggestions forum, then what’s the point of having one?

2. Profession build diversity! – I haven’t played every class so I can’t speak for everyone on this. My main is a Warrior and I play a Necromancer for fun sometimes. My main issue with this game is the fact that some utility skills (NOT weapon skills) simply do not match up to the power of some others. For example, stances on a warrior. The only one ever used at the rate of any other utility type is frenzy since it’s our only source of quickness, but I’d like to see Stance, Physical Utility, and Banner builds that actually have the versatility and power of a shout build.
Some people can make these work. I’ve done banners before and its awesome, but banners are clunky and immobile which drove me away, but I’ve never actually seen these people make it work to the extent of your normal condi removal healing shouts you see all the time.
That’s just a personal example. I think the problem could be solved with the simple buffing of certain traits or small buffs across unused utility skills for all professions that have them to make them viable.

3. Dueling! – You’ve seen this suggestion a thousand times and will continue to see it until it’s implemented, if that ever happens. I know class balance makes this idea a bit shaky but it’s not competitive PvP, it is just a quick activity to have fun with! Put limitations saying we can’t duel in cities or while in the middle of a dynamic event or whatever you want, just put this in!

4. One on one trading! – I don’t see why this was implemented from the beginning. People can scam you in the blink of an eye with the mail system, and according to a friend of mine who was scammed, Anet can’t do anything to help you if you are. This leaves the only safe way to trade the BLTC, but I wouldn’t use that for trading with someone I just met.

5. Tooltips need fixin’! – Tooltips lie in this game so hard it makes me cry, at least when it comes to damage. I’m sure there isn’t much explaining needed on this one.

  1. Do you mean Mods or CCs? Mods are in charge of maintaining the rules on the forums, whereas CCs are the bridge between Anet and the community. The reason they cannot really respond to a lot of threads is because of the burden. If they confirm one change, then they’ll get begged to look at a ton of others, or they will get kittened out for not implementing someone else’s suggestion. And besides, in a lot of cases, they simply don’t know.
  1. That’s a matter of balancing, which is something ANet is constantly working on. Sadly, most other classes have more pressing issues than Warriors, so Warriors don’t get much attention. More pressing here meaning overpowered or buggy skills, which clearly take precedence over “weak” skills.
  1. Who knows. ANet seems to think of PvP more as an eSport thing. Though I thought they mentioned 1v1s for sPvP?
  1. One-on-one trading has no place in the game. You’re simply not supposed to trade outside of the BLTP. And why would you need to do that, anyway? The only excuse is to avoid the fees, which is obviously something that ANet will never let you do. And honestly, I am grateful for the BLTP, as I’ve seen other games that were literally filled with WTS/WTB chat.
  1. How do you think they need fixing? The thing is, the damage on the tooltip takes your average damage and assumes that the enemy has a specific number of defense (2600 at level 80), which is clearly more than most monsters have in the game.

1st: We need a 1vs1 dueling system! Some people might argue with me about balancing issues but who the heck cares?!?! It’s just a duel. With a duel system i would just go PvP others when i’m bored of everything else in the game.

2nd: Need an inspect option so you can see others gear / traits etc. I really miss this alot while playing and i don’t know why it wasn’t implented from the start..

3rd: Increase the camera distance ingame, Because it’s way to short.. I think charr people agrees with me on this one.

4th: A name change option, both ingame characters and account names.

  1. Would have to come with an auto-decline option and some restrictions on where you can duel
  2. Why would you need an inspect option? The biggest usage would be to discriminate against people when making parties. You could implement inspect for skins, but then you would have to make it so that the inspect only shows the skin name. For example, in the case of a Berserker’s Draconic Helmet of the Knight, you would only see “Draconic Helmet” written in a white font, with no stats whatsoever.
  3. I dunno, personally I think the farthest zoom option is a bit far for a human and an Asura.
  4. Pretty sure the name change thing is something they’re planning already.

2. Out of combat mounts.
3. Cross-class transmutation for armour.
4. More weapon, elite, utillity and healing skills for all classes.
5. New weapon types for Thief and Engineer.

2. Why mounts?
3. I think not. Rather enable using different types of armor as townclothes and put in an automatic swap for townclothes when you enter a city.
4. Probably not going to happen soon. One of the biggest reasons in making GW2 was that the amount of skills was getting really ridiculous.
5. Why Thief and Engineer? And do you mean allowing them to use some of the existing weapons or do you mean creating totally new weapons for these two classes?

I dont see anything wrong with making money in a way other than grinding. Arenanet even tried to get rid of grinding. Why do you think they would hire an economist if they didn’t want people to “play the market”?

Pretty sure the economists are hired for various reasons, including longterm analysis on the development of gold and gems, spotting potential loopholes in things like crafting and salvaging and spotting deficiencies in various in-game goods.

Oh, and of course, the Gem Store.

Please no repair and no map travel cost.

traveling tho is another story. If you are within the same map they should remove the cost to move within the same map imo. that would solve most of it.

That kind of a change would result in certain people to abuse the system to get free teleports wherever they go by going to Lion’s Arch, then to a city and porting to the edge of the zone, entering the next one and repeating until they reach their destination (and let’s be honest, it’d be pretty kitten easy to reach every place in the game with this).

And then those same people would come here asking for free map travel, since it’s already technically free and the tons of loading screens are annoying.

The fees are there for a reason. The coin sinks need to reach every type of player. And honestly, while I can easily accept that there are people who don’t use the TP at all, I cannot phantom there being people who don’t use waypoints at all.

why hack a game then? why not hack a bank directly?

A multitude of reasons.

For one, banks have better security. Secondly, the repercussions are on a whole different level. Even attempting to hack a bank gets you sent to jail for years, whereas hacking in the game gets you banned at most. And of course, if you hack a bank, there’s none of that “if you get caught” talk, because you’re not going to be haunted by some GM team, but actual feds.

And I’m pretty sure that most of the hacking occurs outside of the game. It could be via datamining from making a purchase at a gold selling site, or it could be an email hack from the same site. And in those cases, it tends to come down to antivirus and email service security, which is totally out of ANet’s control.

why not just ban the bots, sellers and buyers and eventually they run out of money from having to buy the game more.

the there will no longer be illegal gold sellers and everything is fine.

If you buy gold from the gold sellers and break the tos you might as well be banned.

Gold sellers don’t buy the game/accounts. They steal them from people who have already paid/steal credit card info and make purchases to use the game until they get banned. They couldn’t care less if they get banned because they just have to fire up another account and get back to farming.

then its not a problem of the trading but a security problem.

So you’re asking them to develop an unhackable piece of software? Pretty sure those don’t exist at the current time and probably never will.

And even if they did, all the gold sellers would have to do is outweight the cost of buying an account by making more sales. It’s not like they’re starting with zero funds. And you might say that they only have limited funds, but it’s not like they’re getting instantly banned. As long as they get a few hours online, that would be enough advertisement to get them the sales they need. And even without any funds from GW2, a lot of those sites operate in other MMORPGs as well.

30 – Deep Cuts, Blademaster, Last Chance
20 – Turtle’s Defense, Last Stand
0
20 – Heightened Focus, Warrior’s Sprint

Do note that Warrior’s Sprint does not stack with Swiftness.

Honestly, I think you would get more out of the 20 points into Discipline if you used Signet Mastery or Mobile Strikes.

Personally I also found Turtle’s Defense to not be worth it. Mostly because whenever I am expecting conditions, I run with Mending. Not to mention that you would ideally remove the conditions, so getting a benefit for not doing so is a bit weird.

I also went with Rage sigil on my MH – was this a bad move because I took Last Chance? With this condition/bleed build Quickness is so sexy but not sure if doubling up is good because of the CD on Quickness.

It’s a pretty bad idea. Personally, for a condition setup, I would definite get a Sigil of the Earth for the extra bleeds.

No, no no.

The game currently has no aerial aspect to it. Either they would have to add all of it, which means designing tons of new mobs for every single area in the game, or you would be left with wings that would break the game by allowing players to skip content by flying over it in full safety.

Stealth mechanic: adding reveal debuff

Then I will also want the following skills, of course on all classes:

  • Armor Break against Guardians
  • Anti-Illusion against Mesmers
  • De-Death Shroud against Necromancers
  • Turret Destruction against Engineers
  • Instant Pet Kill or attack speed reduction against Rangers
  • Utility that can be used when stunned/dazed/knocked down that makes the next skill deal 0 damage to you, against Warriors using Eviscerate, Kill Shot or Hundred Blades

Issue is; stealth along the culling issue grant 4/7 sec plus the one described in the tool tip. Not all class can target and land it’s attack to a thief abusing this cheap mechanic.

Culling has nothing to do with the Reveal buff. Basically you’re asking them to nerf thieves because of an issue that should be fixed elsewhere. Granted, them coming up with a fix to culling isn’t exactly likely, but asking for a specific class to be nerfed because there’s too many people in the game is a bit ridiculous.

Disparity between gems->gold and gold->gems

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

There’s a pretty heavy fee on trading Gems to Gold.

That is in place so that people cannot buy Gold and hoard it for an event and sell it for profit. In other words, ANet does not want traders flipping Gems, which is their RL currency.

Perfectly understandable if you ask me. And a much better solution that Blizzard, who I hear would ban people who flip items in the RMAH.

Yeah I know Berserker’s Power only works off the hits of my swords and not condition damage. But I was thinking (again, I could be wrong as I’m new to this) that since this is a high crit build that I would be hitting like a fast rock hammer with high crits due to Berserker’s Power + Vulnerability.

  • Sword 1 combo: 841 damage
  • Axe 1 combo: 1,648 damage
  • Mace 1 combo: 1,076 damage

Axes and Maces also get much better vulnerability support, as Mace 4 adds 4 stacks, same for Axe 2.

I often run with Axe/Mace and I use Mace 4, Axe 2 and On My Mark to get 18 stacks of Vulnerability, which often goes to 20+ stacks due to Rending Strikes.

You would literally need to be comparing 100% critrate on sword (possible) to 0% crit rate on Axe for Swords to get equal direct damage to Axes.

I meant to say that I have only ran Signets because I was leveling, and while leveling a pure Signet + Deep Strike was awesome. Now that I’m 80 I’m aware I have to change up things which is why I’m here asking for advise.

Well, personally I like running with lots of +boon duration% for permanent Fury, Might and (with Warhorn) Swiftness.

Running full Signets at level 80 is dumb. The trait gives you 40 Precision per Signet, but if you instead used For Great Justice and Signet of Rage constantly, you would gain 63% uptime for +20% crit, meaning those two slots would give you +12.6% critical, which at level 80 is equal to 264 Precision. And if you statted enough Tactics to get permanent Fury (15 points), you would get +20%, or the equivalent of 420 Precision.

Also, Berserker’s Power with Swords is kinda silly, as it does not increase your condition damage, only the direct damage from the hits. Same with Vulnerability.

I am running 20/20/0/30/0 with 2x Swords and I use:

  • Restorative Strength
  • Great Fortitude
  • Deep Cuts
  • Blademaster
  • Empowered
  • Lung Capacity
  • Vigorous Shouts

The only reason I still got some Strength is because I also like using Axe/Mace. If I was pure Sword/Sword, I would go with 10/30/0/30/0 and

  • Restorative Strength
  • Deep Cuts
  • Blademaster
  • Crack Shot
  • Leg Specialist
  • Lung Capacity
  • Vigorous Shouts

I am running with 2x Rampager’s exotic swords, one with a Superior Sigil of the Earth. Running with 5/6 armor pieces of Soldier’s with a Knight’s Helm (all exotic) with Emerald Orbs and a full set of rare Knight’s accessories.

One reason behind the combat mode being longer is to avoid people cheesing content. Make it any faster and you will end up with a situation where people will just run off to get out of combat mode and regenerate to full health and return.

Also, Ranger/Thief/Elementalist/Necromancer all get a utility that gives +25% movement speed. Warriors can get +10% from a trait. And most classes have access to Swiftness, which gives +33%.

Wouldn’t really solve anything.

If you merge servers in an attempt to please the WvW crowd without doing something about the free transfers, you’re not going to change anything, except make it more difficult for big guilds to get into WvW due to there being multiple big WvW guilds in the new, merged server. People are always going to get bored of being beaten by zergs and move to better servers, unless you make it cost something.

As for the “dead” zones in the world, that’s mostly because every last level 80 is either in Fractals, Orr or some other dungeon. And quite frankly, unless you play like 1 hour a day, you’re not going to stay in a single zone for too long due to outleveling it.

And we already have some people who have ran into issues with their servers being full. Not to mention that GW2 had tons of issues with the servers at launch.

I had notice in game although I’m in Level 80 my level up bar still work and obtain Skill Points but not Trait Point.

My Suggestion is

Can this be possible to fix this? return it back? It seem it’s unfair that you have skill point added up while but not the trait points. and monsters and enemies are stronger in higher level so at least to match them

You gain skillpoints because:

  • The skills that you can learn take more than 80 points total
  • Skills are used as a currency for the Mystic Forge

The reason you do not and never will gain trait points is simple: balance. If you gained trait points, you would eventually end up in a situation where you have all traits maxed at 30. And that’s not balanced by any means. +300 to all stats, +30% critical damage, +300 Healing Power, +30% Boon Duration, +30% Condition Duration, +300 Condition Damage, all at the same time. I think not.

Rangers had a pet along with(another one switch place) but Necromacer has 4 fiends to summon along with

The mechanics are different. Pets for a ranger are alike to a tank of their own, whereas Necromancers have the ability to sacrifice their minions for special effects.

I Suggest to use Gems to buy weapons, armors and item upgrades etc not only for special item in Black Lion Trading

it quite difficult raised gold coin and exchange for gold is falling, flactuating
Atleast It will expanded the monetary option to buy items, weapons and armors

No, no no. Selling gear for cash is the definite killing blow of any f2p style game. Anet has said from the beginning that the Gem Store isn’t going to contain stuff that gives an advantage to people who can pay.

Gems for Gold—How do you feel about it?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Gems are produced at will by them, it is an infinite resource.
The players gem acquisition make the rate gem-gold to fluctuate around a base rate completely controled by them.

I don’t think I ever said that Gems were a finite resource. And note that I used the world “supply-and-demand algorithm”.

The market seems based on supply and demand because of the fluctuations but if you look at the rate change over time since the game launched you will realize that the market is completely controled, both by an artificial gem-gold rate and by loot drop reduction nerf that pushes the players towards buying gems to get gold.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/gem

All I am seeing in the graph is gem prices going higher and higher, with very little deflation. This is natural, because the Gems have a much higher perishing rate and lower supply than Gold. You literally cannot exchange Gems for anything without some Gems disappearing. This is not true for Gold, as you can exchange Gold for items through mail. Not to mention that the fee on Gem-to-Gold exchange is much higher than the TP fee on Gold.

And Gems have a naturally lower supply than Gold. Every single player brings in Gold, whereas only some bring in Gems.

Also, the picture you posted shows a “ninja drop nerf” at November 15th. Note that the November 15th patch was when they made Plinx much less frequent, thus obviously people are going to get less drops, since their farming was made less efficient. Also notable that the Gems started climbing in prices at that point. Prior to that, they had been reasonable stable.

Gems for Gold—How do you feel about it?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

I notice the price of 1-gold is consistently falling. I, for one, wouldn’t mind in the slightest if this feature was completely removed. (Buying gems w/ gold is 100% ok w/ me, but not the other way around).

The exchange between gems and gold is purely based on the players. That is:

  • The gems you can buy are gems someone else bought with RL money
  • The exchange rates are determined by a supply-and-demand algorithm

If you could not sell Gems for Gold, that would mean that ANet would have to create extra gems whenever someone buys them with Gold. Not really a bad idea, except that then the price would be fully dictated by ANet, without any input from the playerbase.

In fact, the gems-to-gold exchange allows for the gems to not be truly perishable. That is, not all gems are exchanged for items in the Gem Store. This is good, because if Gems were a truly perishable currency, then their price would be even higher.

Of course, to maintain the Gem-to-Gold exchange and to keep it from being exploited by traders, there’s a pretty heavy tax on the Gem-to-Gold conversion. Sadly, that also means that the price of Gems has very little deflation.

As long as Anet can keep themselves from selling “power” in the Gem Store, it’s all good. That’s the most common pitfall of an F2P MMORPG: they sell items that give significant advantage that you can only get with cash.

When I stared upgrading my main chars bag space I was really surprised to see it 400 gems to get one additional bag slot. It also feels like a bit of a hike that this applies to this one toon. So 800 gems costs £8.50 so an additional bag space on one char runs in at £4.50!

I’ve heard players say that we are meant to trade gold for gems but how? It’s taken me a painfully long time to get above 10g as I’m not a hardcore player and the exchange rate is insanely bad.

There’s a tab on the Trading Post where you can exchange currency.

Also, the extra bag space is a very costly way into more bag space. Personally, I recently upgraded from using 8 slot bags to using 15 slot bags, for far cheaper than buying the 400 Gem slot would’ve been. And even after that, upgrading your bank is still cheaper.

And personally, I don’t really see my inventory filling up, what with the “Deposit All Collectibles” sending all collectible stuff (logs, scraps, ore, gems, cooking items) to my collections in the bank.

My second ask is that we see far more cosmetic stuff on the gem store, I’m sure I wouldn’t take long to get some good items on there. It seems to be the same items since launch.

It actually does take a long time. You have to remember that those items have to have a designer to draw them, then another designer to put them onto the characters. And after that it’s going to take a crapton of to eliminate clipping across the races. After all, if you’re going to charge money for the fashion, it better function properly.

And let’s be honest, cosmetic things that center on events will give more revenue simply because they have that urgency about them: you have to get them while the event is going on, otherwise you might never get them.

For example, warriors have Banners, which have a duration of 95 seconds, with an untraited cooldown of 120 seconds. Currently, the mechanic absolutely prevents you from just summoning all 5 banners, giving one to each party member and swapping back to something else, which getting the full benefits of all the banners.
