So you’re a strawman riding a bandwagon?

Nice to know.

most of the hair styles are…‘elegant’ i guess. if you’re making a class like a warrior, there’s little option outside of those elegant hair styles except really short hair

Subjective opinion. But that’s not the real problem, subjectivity isn’t a negative thing by itself. However, in this case it implies something bad.

If ANet starts doing things just because the majority wants it, not only are they giving up their pride in their product, but they’re also giving the implication that there is nothing that cannot be changed if enough people argue for it.

Also, how do we define “majority”? Are we talking majority in relation to the whole population, meaning at least half of the people? Are we talking majority in relation to sizes of other groups?

Also, subjective opinions can contradict each other.

Let’s just say that it’s always going to happen. People in games like this are ridiculously result-oriented.

What the Daily Healer is supposed to do is encourage people to resurrect dead NPCs and dead players. It’s not supposed to encourage people to let others die in vain so that they can get achievement points.

Personally, I still haven’t seen people just sitting around letting things die. What I have seen, on the other hand, is extremely fast resurrection upon death in an event that has people. Previously I had to lie there dead while they killed the current wave of Risen.

I like doing the opposite, though. I port to Harathi Hinterlands for the Modniir Chief Ulgoth chain to resurrect players.

Thank you for transfer fee

in Black Lion Trading Co

Olba.5376

There are reasons for the fee.

Look at your own actions for one. You want to transfer to one of the big servers, right? Well, that’s exactly the kind of behavior the fee is meant to discourage.

After all, free server transferring results in servers that are, from a WvW point of view, pretty much dead. And the only reason for that is that the people who do WvW in there don’t like losing, so they move to the bigger, more likely biggest, servers. And that’s exactly why the top tier servers stay top tier: because everyone is going there for all the action.

WvW is supposed to be about players fighting, not about one side winning and two losing on a constant basis.

After all, there’s only a handful of reasons anyone who doesn’t do WvW would want to transfer servers. The RP communities on specific servers and friends playing on different servers/continents being the two biggest reasons.

Laurels, you get numerous items with those, 1 laurel per pve daily, and 10 laurels for pve monthly.

And I hardly call reviving 10 npcs a grind, or 10 crafted items. Most people are used to gathering nodes on a regular basis, so you must have mats. USE THEM, gets you exp and levels up crafting if you havn’t already. Grind killing things underwater? Its 25, not the 50 or so from that other daily. I don’t think you understand the definition of grind… hardly call various small tasks that change daily and add up to 15 minutes a day tops a “grind”

To me, grinding means: “to repeatedly work at doing something that you would not ordinarily do.”
Reviving 10 npc’s ordinarily wouldn’t be a grind, if you normally revive every downed person or npc that you encounter. If you only revive them because it’s a requirement of the daily-that’s grinding.
If you enjoy killing things underwater, it’s not a grind. If, your underwater skills are terrible, and you avoid underwater combat as much as possible, it’s a grind if you do it only because it’s a requirement of the daily.
If you don’t enjoy crafting, and aren’t even trained to craft, doing so because it’s a requirement of the daily-it’s a grind.
If you only gather nodes for extra money, and only certain items, because the prices aren’t worth doing so, it’s a grind if you only do it because it’s a requirement of the daily.

Have you considered the option of not doing the daily?

The stat combinations are the way they are for balancing reasons.

There are a few currently nonexistent combinations that would fit certain builds much better than what we can currently have.

So what your suggestion would end up doing is making everyone buy the new transmutation stone, which would obviously be a Gem Store only item, and then they would all look the same, except with much less balanced combinations.

End result being that the diversity you wanted won’t be there and the balance we have is lost.

Fact is, people will always go for the best stats. You can’t change that.

Improve dungeons (LFP Finder, Rewards, Incentives)

in Suggestions

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Idea 1: The obvious one. Lower token cost of exotic dungeon rewards. Not necessarily the best single solution, but it would be a step into the right direction.
Idea 2: Another obvious one. Make dungeon tokens some sort of account-wide currency (much like how Gems are handled). This way players bored of running the same instance with one and the same class over again have more freedom with profession choice.
Idea 3: Daily dungeon path bounties. Have at each dungeon one path give a bunch of bonus tokens (2x or 3x bonus tokens for finishing the path once per day only). This will give players more incentive to run a different path every day, without penalising those who don’t want to.
Idea 4: Being similar to Idea 3, but have a weekly dungeon achievement. Like select 2 different dungeons every week, and have those give players bonus tokens for completing all 3 paths in both or either selected dungeon. This would players give more incentive to try out dungeons they might otherwise not be tempted to do.
Idea 5: Reward players for doing all 3 paths. Not just once, but every time a player finished all 3 paths in a dungeon, give a bunch of bonus tokens as reward. This will give players more incentive to run all 3 paths in a dungeon instead of farming the same path over again. Of course without penalising those who do only farm the same path over again.
Idea 6: Mentor bonus. When a group brings a player new to that dungeon instance with them, everyone in the party will receive bonus tokens. +20 or +30 bonus tokens for a completed run only (stacks; the more new players in a party, the more bonus tokens are received). The newbie status counts account-wide, so no mentor bonus is given if a player has already done that same dungeon on a different character. This would give players more incentive to bring along new players on their dungeon runs, instead of shunning them because they might slow down your run.
Idea 7: Story-mode bonus. Once a day give players a +20 token bonus for completing the story-mode instance in a dungeon. Maybe even give a normal +5 token reward for every completed story-mode run. This would give players more incentive to go back to story-mode to maybe help out a new player.

  1. If it’s obvious, then it’s already been considered, no need to repeat
  2. Same as above
  3. Wouldn’t work, at least with those numbers. If it’s 2x or 3x, people would just proceed normally and wait for the easy paths to be chosen to get the bonuses. That, in turn, is no different from the current mode, except people get more tokens. Which is not a real solution.
  4. The issue with achievements is that if you start giving them out for a lot of things, people will start screaming for their favorite activity to get boosted. And that’ll just make everything worse.
  5. The thing is, you’d have to make it worth their time. This means that the extra reward has to not only make the tokens/time even out, but it will also have to give out some more tokens to offset the difference in required effort.
  6. How do you count when a person is a rookie? No runs? One run? Single digit runs? You have to be really careful with a system like that, because you could easily abuse it so that the bonuses stack to a point where the amount of runs you have to do for your gear is toned down to a ridiculously low level.
  7. True, Story Mode needs boosting. But even here, you run to the same issue: It’s just not worth people’s time.

The sad thing is, people will always repeat the activity that gives the best rewards in relation to time and effort spent. And sadly, often the easy stuff is also the fast stuff, which results in it giving out the best rewards for the time spent. Or the effort required to get the better rewards is perceived as too high and it gets ignored.

Tip 2: Bleed duration

Runes— take your pick, cheapest are Centaur/Krait. Mix and match

Superior Rune of the Afflicted (rank 2 – increases duration 5/10/15%)
Superior Rune of the Centaur (rank 2 – increases duration)
Superior Rune of the Krait (rank 2 – increases duration)
Superior Rune of the Mad King (rank 4 – increases duration)

That’s a very easy way to waste a lot of money. Bleeds only tick on even seconds, so unless the durations give out an additional second of damage, you’ve just wasted the spots.

Also, since we’re talking increased duration, you need to compare it to the alternative, which is increasing your condition damage rather than duration.

Solution to bots?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

I was curious. Would it be hard for the dev team to implement a system where a window would pop out and ask you a question when it starts detecting farming activity? This is to separate bots to actual people controlling and playing.

For instance, you are farming in an area, then a window pops out asking you what 5×5 is? It gives you a list of answers. If you got it right it would let you on, but if you didnt answer it right (i’m hoping most of you know what 5×5 is) or you didn’t answer in the allocated time it would kick you out?

Well, that suggestion has quite a few holes in it.

  • What is defined as “farming activity”?
  • How does “farming” differ from normal play?
  • What are the qualities of “farming” that you can detect with a piece of software?
  • Should you really punish people for grinding because bots are also doing it?

And then there’s the whole question thing. That brings to the table the following problems:

  • What is a fair time, considering all facets of human intellect?
  • What kind of questions would be appropriate, especially considering the youngest and the oldest players in the game?

And let’s be honest, the system wouldn’t really deter most botting. If you make it so that the question is only asked once after a random period of time, then all the botters need is a single person on the computer to observe it until the question is asked, after which the problem disappears. If the question is asked constantly over a random period of time, you’re basically going to be annoying the crap out of your playerbase.

My take on changes to Legendary Weapons

in Suggestions

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Reading through this, I’m seeing:

  • Free precursor once every 4 months for every player
  • Other requirements lowered significantly

The end result? Well, if the free precursors are not at least account bound, that’s not going to be too happy, as the early adapters will benefit tremendously. The overall reductions that you suggested would make Legendaries overall less Legendary in the sense that it’d be much easier to get it. After all, you lowered the requirements or introduced additional ways to go about most of the stuff.

Also, by pretty much revamping the whole system this late into the game, you would incur a massive kittenstorm from the playerbase. The players who got their Legendary before the update will rage, the players who bought some stuff that your update made obsolete will rage. The only people happy will be the ones who are currently saving for a Legendary.

You do get credit for making a suggestion that is better than pretty much all the other Legendary-related suggestions.

Put regular utility skills into Elite Slots?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Both of your suggestions would cause some pretty serious balancing issues.

Why would it cause balance issues?

For traits: you could pick any traitline for the primary bonuses and traits, then get the minor traits from other lines. Here’s a quick list of what I personally consider game-changing minor traits:

  • Renewed Justice
  • Precise Strikes
  • Adrenal Health
  • Fast Hands
  • Automated Medical Response
  • Meld with Shadows
  • Preparedness

For example, as a Thief myself, the only reason I went 15 into Trickery was to get Preparedness. And I know tons of Warriors who put 15 into Discipline to get Fast Hands.

As for being able to use utility skills in the elite slot, it would make some builds that center on a few key utilities even stronger.

And of course, there are certain utilities that have very neat synergies, such as Kleptomaniac+Serpent’s Touch+Lotus Poison+Exposed Weakness.

And as was said, weak elites do not mean you should be given the choice not to use them. It means the elites themselves should get looked at. But honestly, certain skills being too weak is far less of a concern than certain skills being too strong or exploitable.

I understand the need to deter bots but when you are trying to collect stuff for legendaries or other exotic craftables, getting one lodestone drop after a month is pitiful. Not everyone has the money to buy gems to convert to gold to buy the items off the TP. It already cost a good deal of in game money to get some of the stuff that you can’t buy on the TP. I don’t mind running all over Tyria killing stuff to get what I need, but when you are not even close to getting stuff when you’ve put in all that hard work is just disheartening . I love this game, I have fun running all over doing DEs, dungeons and dailies but I get frustrated when I have very little to show for it. I don’t expect to get everything in a short amount of time, but if I need 100 lodestones for something, getting 1 a day would be nice.

You’re pretty kitten vague there. Saying that you want a single Lodestone per day, are we talking playing 8 hours? Playing 30 minutes? Something in-between?

And let’s be honest. Currently, it’s better for you to grind gold elsewhere and buy the Lodestones. That’s usually how it is in games when it comes to rare materials. The very essence of them being a rare item goes hand in hand with them being a very bad idea to farm.

get rid of level scaling

in Suggestions

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Level scaling is brilliant.

Nah, it just make item hunting more tedious.

I wish I could 1 shot stuff in maps where I’ve already been, but this never EVER happen in GW2. I will never be able to kite a mob and then do some powerful move killing them all at once. I miss being abble to do that once in a while, specially when I’m hunting items for crafting. I never feel that my character is getting any stronger, with all this scripts " balancing" things around. I agree with TC, the time you waste grinding should give you any sense of reward. Of course Traits make it easier but not easy enough to rush into things. You’ll just certainly survive, but that’s not always enough imo. When you know you’ll be hunting something specific for hours, overpower can be handy (and harmless). Traits and skills only won’t do that, I always waste a lot of time in the most weaker minion and freaking cooldowns make it 10 times worst.

That’s just one aspect of the game. A very endgame one. A very voluntary one.

On the other hand, level scaling allows people like me, who play a lot more than pretty much all the people I know, to play at my own pace at my own time, without worrying that I couldn’t play with my friends out of a fear of trivializing their content.

Honestly, the fact that I can just get to 80 with any means I want, while saving hearts in lower zones to do with my friends and have it still remain a fun experience, is worth its weight in gold.

Level scaling also means that you can revisit old areas, do events in there and not feel like you’re facerolling everything. You’re still going to get your kitten handed to you by a Champion if you’re not careful.

On the other end of level scaling, it allows people to experiment with content at a much earlier level. Which is excellent, since some people will find that they absolutely love WvW. Or they just might enjoy the challenge of going to a dungeon while being low level.

Agreed the only people that fear a DPS meter are the ones that dont want you to know how much MF they got, im a support mesmer but I still do good DPS i hope, and if i dont i need to up my game, btw all good DPS meters in WoW also giave information on heals and other stuff not just DPS.

I’m against damage meters. I’m also rolling around with 0% MF, with my gear consisting of 5 pieces of temple Exotics, a Knight’s exotic helm and 5 pieces of Rare Knight’s accessories.

Reasons I’m against it are various. For one, one of the key reasons I ever got GW2 was because I was convinced by a friend of mine that I could play the game solo. For me, in a game where you actually get to choose your weapons, that means a lot. I’m not going to be playing MMORPGs to be competitive, so I might as well play with whatever I want. Right now, that happens to be dual swords with Toy Sword skins, mostly due to an anime called Sword Art Online.

What comes to dungeon runs and people selecting who to make parties with, I think that’s bullkitten. Because let’s be honest, if you had to choose a random decked in full Exotic Knight’s gear or what-have-you, and a guild mate or a friend with full Rare MF gear, you would pretty much always pick the latter.

And even in the lucky event that you don’t get selective over the damage meter, that doesn’t mean that it won’t change things. Heck, even if you’re not literally getting kicked out of parties because of a low ranking on a DPS scale, you’ll still be getting bullkitten about it, especially if you happen to be playing a class that lacks support and/or happen to be wearing offensive-styles armors and ornaments.

5. Wouldn’t really matter what a player has slotted for their weapons, they’re skills sets are set for a specific type/playstyle. It would be nice to not have to open your inventory to switch to a warhorn just for the speed boost.
7. Show me one person that wastes money/gold on black lion keys. And if you say you do, you’re lieing for the sake of argument. The Black Lion keys are over priced and the rewards don’t justify the amount of gems for them.
8. You are correct, you failed to understand my logic as far as Crafting a set. I already know where to buy the stuff, and where to farm the stuff. I would ask that that specific set be craftable.

8. Why? Looking at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item_nomenclature#Triple_attribute, I see that there’s quite a few sets that you cannot craft at all. So why the specific one, especially when it’s the one you can actually get without dungeoning?

1. make it so that pick axes, wood axes and other harvesting tools are a one time buy instead of a pay as you break type of deal. Reasons: since money does not drop from mobs having to constantly buy harvesting materials is a pain not to mention the fact that making it viable for everyone to use these tools regardless of profession makes it difficult to sell what ever is harvested since there is bulks of it in the AH.
5. Karma vendors in Orr should be moved to lions arch or other major cities instead of being in areas that are 99.9% of the time not available. It makes if frustrating having to go through an ordeal getting the loot you need after going though a previous ordeal of getting the karma in order to buy said gear. Just sayn.
6. Crafting epics should but be made so impossible, and the epics should not ALL have the same stats (power, toughness, vitality) not to mention the fact that the amount of each stat is the same as an exotic. The materials to make epics should not be a game of chance either, epic crafting plans should be sold from each respective profession vendor with different stats for each piece. Materials should not be made easy to gather, but having to get world completion on top of other such nonsense to be able to craft a rare ONCE is ridiculous!!!!
7. introduce tanks and healers in order to eliminate the clusterkitten that is running dungeons.
9. for the love of gawd mounts! because paying every time you wanna port to an area adds up. If no mounts at least keep the fee to a set amount of copper depending on distance instead of silver.
10. of the subject of money, please make it so that mobs drop it more often, even if its just a few copper/silver here and there it adds up.
15. black lion chest keys should be to be crafted. I have other 50 chests and no keys to open them but I see that I am able to buy them in the AH (I see what you did there and I dont like it.)
17. lvl 80 dungeon chest should not be dropping blues and greens. Having to sacrifice stats or switching armor with magic find before a fight is kitten
21. SKILL POINTS SHOULD NOT BE USED AS CRAFTING MATERIAL CURRENCY!!!!!
22. character trading option would be most appreciated.
23. character inspect option would be nice.
24. some sort of ghost/spirit/spectral walking when dead would be nice. having to pay to port to a way point then having to run back and fight your way back to were you were only to die in the process is getting old.
25. have it so that people duel wielding weapons hit with both instead of just one when auto attacking.
26. instead of swapping weapons every time you want to access a particular skill have two task bars displayed simultaneous in order to access skills on the fly.

1. Not gonna happen, it’s a working gold sink.
5. Nope, the karma vendors that sell the Exotic stuff are not accessible often for a reason.
6. The crafting process, if you do it by yourself without buying stuff, involves pretty much every single aspect of the game. And exploration is one of those.
7. Not going to happen. It’s one of the basic design decisions of GW2. If you want tanks and healers, you’re pretty much asking them to remake the whole game.
9. Again, it’s a gold sink. And whether it’s costly or not is a personal thing. I don’t think it costs too much.
10. So you want to eliminate pretty much all the coin sinks and make it so that you get more money? Well, that would be true for every single player, resulting in everyone having more gold, thus everything going up in prices as people would be more able to buy it.
15. The keys are in the gem store. They did had Lionguard Lyns up for a moment, though.
17. Why not?
21. Again, why not? You keep gaining skill points indefinitely, so why not use that aspect to do something cool?
22. No, it’s not necessary. The only times where trading between two players directly makes “sense” is if you’re selling to someone you know for cheaper than TP, or you’re trying to avoid the TP fees. From a gameplay point of view, selling for cheaper than the TP doesn’t make sense, as you’re the one losing money on it. And avoiding the fees is not something you’re supposed to be able to do.
23. No, it’d just make the elitism even worse than it already is. You want to know the skin that someone else is using? Ask them.
24. Again with the avoiding of in-game gold sinks?
25. Would need some pretty heavy balancing to it, not to mention that some stuff just isn’t meant to be done with both weapons.
26. So basically you want to remove weapon skills totally? Not going to happen, it was one of the basic design flaws in GW1.

For example mounts. Why no mounts? Cause it makes the world seem too small? That’s already being done at a more critical level by waypoints. And honestly, mounts could prove to be a good way to let people spend some more gems.

The biggest no’s against mounts are:

  • Speed boosts
  • Overcrowding in cities

But you have to ask yourself, would the majority of the very vocal pro-mount crowd be satisfied with mounts that don’t have speed boosts?

And also, why most people want mounts? Most people want mounts because they think the waypoints are too expensive. Adding mounts because you personally think that the waypoints are expensive (which they aren’t) is a bit like nerfing stealth because of culling.

Why not LFD? Cause some guy who has no idea or a line of thought said it would ruin the community? How exactly is spamming the channels for members improving the community? Am I missing some bonding ritual beside the whole group up and go thing that grouping usually requires, what goes on from there is the important part, why does the seach and find part take this long? There is nothing interesting or fun about it.

A lot of people want to carefully select the people they party with, even in a PUG. An LFG system would not allow that and those people would be majorly kitten off, as they would be forced to go into what they perceive as “inferior parties”.

The trinity, however should always stay the hell away from GW2. I am glad to have found a game without dedicated healers since I was sick to kitten of games where healing was such a huge part of the game that it ended up spoiling many experiences, such as PVP.

My personal experience, as someone who mostly plays DPS, was that I got the shortest end of the stick. Not only did the tanks and healers get to freaking handpick their parties, in the game I played (Perfect World International) they started demanding the better drops or other perks.

There is no real way to fix it.

In December, they added the feature that allowed leaders to demote people of the same rank. This was mostly due to leaders quitting the game or accidental promotions causing issues.

So either you accept a situation where the leader has more power than anyone and risk him quitting the game, or you risk running into situations where someone with the highest priviledges decides to screw your guild over for whatever reason.

The real value of gold?

Olba.5376

There’s plenty of actual coin currency in the world where the materials to make the coin have more value than the coin itself.

So either the process to extract the raw materials from the coins costs too much or it is far too tedious for a small profit.

The reverse can be argued with Tyrian currency. It’s pretty much definite that the coins are indeed coins, probably with some engravings to go with them. Make the engravings detailed enough and you’re effectively in a position where counterfeiting costs too much to be a problem.

Clear precursor price manipulation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

I know Anet deems this strategy completely legit, but it’s rather tiresome for people who are trying to save for their legendary, like Kuzdu:

http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/29172

Someone buys all the the precursors and relists them for double the price. I see it happened with Chaos Gun too:

http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/29174 (click on All)

Basically means the people trying to get their legendary are “gold farming” for the ultra rich (possibly gold sellers) who are manipulating the market. I have to say that this is very disconcerting.

So basically what you want is for ANet to come out and declare, like a proper draconian authority, the proper pricing on items?

Because you can’t just say “Oh well Precursors are too pricy”. If you do it for precursors, you have to do it for all the items. And most likely, that would result in everything going up in price as people put put their prices to match the caps presented by ANet.

And let’s be serious for a moment. We do have Gold sinks, but that doesn’t mean that the Gold isn’t steadily losing its value. Firstly, ANet has no authority to claim that the price of an item is right or wrong, same as you don’t. With that said, the only thing they could really do is put in some kind of hard cap on the prices of items. And if that cap was lower than the current prices, then you would just end up with people simply not selling their stuff at all. If it’s higher than the current prices, the people who own those items will take that as a sign from ANet, telling them that their prices are deemed too low by the official, now draconian, authority.

Secondly, due to the very real inflation that we have, ANet would have to constantly update their “proper prices”. And they would just keep going up. And then you would have people complaining about it again, but this time their anger would be directed at ANet rather than the tradespeople.

And honestly, as long as the prices on the TP are deemed to be lower than what people would be willing to spend on the Mystic Forge to try to get the precursor, the prices will just keep going up.

^ you have yet to realise that HB is cumulative, number is low, and signet’s are not the best for damage output.

Well, if we’re talking pure damage output, then you would skill yourself with Signet of Rage, Signet of Might, For Great Justice and Banner of Strength.

And since we’re talking about crits here, we can make the whole 5 Signet Warrior moot by putting a Superior Sigil of Intelligence into the weapon.

Mounts/Addons/ and an LFD
Please add/allow these to the game. they are the biggest things in my opinion missing…
I keep looking back, and Plyaing WoW. I want to enjoy GW2, but without these elements,
I cant help but keep returning to WoW…
I thought Anet wanted to directly compete with Blizzard? Not to mention the lack of the holy trinity and Raids, I don’t see how they can do so….

  1. The only way I would accept mounts is it they were purely cosmetic with no speed boosts and you couldn’t use them in towns.
  2. Add-ons are a big “NO” from me. Add-ons bring things like convenience and customizability, but they also trivialize content, make it harder for new players to get into the game and sometimes force developers to work around them.
  3. Sure, why not put in an LFG system? After all, if you’re going to join a PUG anyway, being put into one that is automatically assembled won’t matter. And hey, it might even be good, as right now you see plenty of people asking for specific professions into their runs.

-0.1 second on weapon swap. Change fast hands to about 4 seconds instead of 5.

An incredibly short weapon swap when traited might just be the buff warrior needs to escape the predictability problem they have. I mean, I play other classes, when I see a warrior with greatsword I know exactly what he’s going to do.

So you want use to have a 3 second weapon swap cooldown?

That would require nerfing our other skills. And let’s be honest, that would hurt everyone who doesn’t constantly swap weapons. Which is pretty much everyone in PvE.

Not going to happen.

Together with Skull Crack, those two would give you 4 seconds of stun. That’s more than enough to switch over to GS and Frenzy+HB a target to death.

Currently you could argue that Frenzy+HB is balanced because it’s easy to avoid, but add in an alternative way to force people to use a stunbreak, and it becomes an overpowered combo.

And we already have tons of complaints about Hundred Blades.

Then what do you think about flurry>HB combo?

Not even nearly as bad as having stuns, considering that you can still attack while Immobilized and there are specific skills that remove movement impairments.

Question about Discipline trait tier

in Warrior

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Well, for damage-oriented traits, the Discipline line shines with Signet Mastery, Heightened Focus and, if you wanna go that far into it, either Quick Bursts or Adrenal Reserves.

A lot of people like the 15 point minor trait Fast Hands. Depending on the situation, Sweet Revenge is also very handy.

So if you swap your weapons a lot, go with a minimum of 15 points. Generally the first 10 points into Discipline produces more damage than the last 10 into Arms or Strength.

What do you mean?

You get revealed if you attack while in stealth.

So if you attacked after dodging, you would get revealed stuck on you for 3 seconds. And let’s be honest, being forced to either take tons of revealed or to run around in stealth after dodging would be pretty bad.

Either that or you make the stealth very short, effectively making it useless.

- Be able to see dots on the map of where your guild members are to make it easier to join them. (Yes, I have people in my guild that don’t always accept party invites…I would like to bypass that and just slay alongside them) At least if I take the time to track what map/region they’re on and spend ‘x’ amount of bronze to tele there.

That’s a bit too stalker-ish. Joining a guild should not be about forfeiting your privacy to play alone.

Game Theory: “Undercutting”

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

To open with, I’m personally against 1c undercutting. I’m also not in the business of trading on the BLTP for profit, but I have done it in other games and had some success.

However, there’s a pretty big problem with what you just asked. Firstly, you never considered the actual buy prices, only the sell prices. The thing is, by pricing your stuff so low, even if you end up selling much faster, you’re also losing on a top of potential profit. Of course, if you can cycle the funds you make at an increased rate, then it all works out. Ideally, you would experiment with whatever goods you’re trading in to see if you can price them lower for a higher return over the same time period. It’s also perfectly possible for you to go too low and sell stuff at a lower price with little to no increase in the volume you’re dealing with.

So in the end, there is no “magic number”. It depends fully on the market you’re dealing with and each of them has their own ideal pricing, which of course isn’t a constant.

The reason you see so much 1c undercutting is because it’s easy. It doesn’t take any knowledge of the merchandise you’re dealing with and you’re still better off than not doing it. In fact, considering what I just said, it’s rather likely that by 1c undercutting, you land yourself just below the “magic number” and end up getting nearly the ideal rate without doing any real work yourself. And even if you don’t, you’re still ahead of the guys who were in before you.

Each class deserves a dedicated fulltime dev

Olba.5376

What we should have is not a dedicated development team member, but a dedicated development team liaison. This person just needs to bloody communicate with the player base about what’s going on in each class, why they’re considering it, and enact conversations with the community. They don’t have to promise anything, or even confirm anything. They could pose theoretical questions weekly or whatever and ask for the players’ opinions on assorted topics, then assess the threads at the end of the week. Heck, they could even start inane topics about what we like most about a given profession, and even that would substantially improve how we feel about the class/the development team/the game.

Except that majority of the playerbase do not go to the forums.

Heck, I’ve even seen topics from players complaining that they felt that they needed to go to the forums if they wanted detailed information on patches.

And obviously that system would not work. Even if they made a topic regarding every single profession, you would still get people posting in other profession’s threads telling the devs to pay more attention to <insertracethatposterplays> instead. And then that would derail the topics into debates about which profession needs more attention. And keeping that out would put an extra load on the moderators, which we don’t want.

Not to mention that asking the playerbase is biased anyway. Try asking for boosting any part of Thief, you’ll incur a hilarious kitten storm.

And one thing that needs to be said: The professions span several departments. There’s cross-class balance, which is further split to PvP and PvE. Naturally there’s intra-class balance as well, which spans the same bits, but with a bit more detail. There’s bug fixing, which relates to playtesters. There’s quality assurance, which is mostly fixing tooltips and oversights that affect specific tidbits of the game, such as the Death Shroud not showing your conditions/boons. Just to name a few.

It’s literally impossible to have a single person dedicated to a specific profession and be done with it. What you ideally want is a team. That and a crapton of good playtesters. And just for good measure, the CCs should regularly update the teams on the glitches and imbalances that the playerbase has observed on the forums.

There’s tons of ways to do it, just comparing other professional mechanics.

Thief, Elementalist, Guardian, Mesmer and Engineer get cooldown reductions. Necromancers get increased Life Force. Rangers get +stats on their pets.

Just by copypasting those into adrenaline, you get cooldown reduction or increased quantity of Adrenaline. Of course, the latter is a bit fishy at best, so the idea about reducing the costs of adrenaline skills could be nice. However, due to Adrenal Reserves, it could result in a pretty severe imbalance. Rather similarly, due to easy access to full bars of Adrenaline from Healing Surge and Signet of Fury, reducing the cooldowns could result in an imbalance.

I’ll be honest: before talking about fixing Discipline, you should talk about how to make the rarely-used Burst Skills, mainly Arcing Slice, more attractive in comparison to stuff like Skull Crack, Flurry, Kill Shot and Eviscerate.

You can’t scam with a trade window that requires acceptance from both parties before the trade is completed.

Oh, there’s plenty of ways to do it. You could use items that have the same icon and swap the item with a good timing. Doesn’t seem like it would work, but it does. Used to be a pretty big complaint in Diablo 2 back in the day.

If Party A miss clicks the wrong item or hits “okay” before their intention than that is by their own fault. Much like purchasing the wrong item.

Doesn’t matter who’s fault it is, it’s still an existing and very serious problem. And the only way to combat it is to have every single item that is essentially different, to have different icons. And obviously this is not going to happen in GW2, as it would require every stat combination on one armor to have its own unique icon. Could probably be done by adding color tints to the icons, though.

I think players should realize they have far more to worry about with the current state of affairs regarding the TP, manipulation and market cornering, than if their map chat (which they can filter) gets filled up by spam.

Honestly, all of those things are irrelevant to the regular player. Prices rising on certain items is only going to hurt you if you’re going for an MF exotic or a Legendary. And as you put it, going for those is the player’s choice, so they’re at fault, right?

And again, why is it a major flaw not to have player-to-player trading?
