So… your pipe dream is that Peak Performance would thus give it a 10/20/30% boost on the heal and -4s on the cooldown?

Yeah, dream on. That’s never going to happen. At least not without Peak Performance being moved to some slot that has more competition. Literally everyone with a GS would take Peak Performance, Mending and Bull’s Charge.

The issue with the Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic is that in most cases, using anything higher than a Basic kit is wasting good coppers. Another thing is that the higher likelihood of getting Sigils means that if you have an inventory full of Masterwork stuff, you’re not gonna be clearing much of that by using the kit.

That being said, the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-matic and a shared inventory slot to put it into has been one of the best things I have bought with Gems.

I have seen F2P games that have wikis with all the odds. Odds that are upwards of 98% returning “crap”, with the rarest items being in the 1/100,000 range. And then the community made spreadsheets to calculate the average returns, showing that the boxes were hugely crap. And people still spent hundreds or thousands of dollars buying those things.

Fix stealth attack for thieves

Olba.5376

Your suggestion does not make any sense.

Yes, Daredevil has more mobility. No, that does not mean the less-mobile vanilla Thieves should get more damage, because they already do. If you’re opting to not go with Daredevil, then that means you’re running DA/SA/Trickery. If you were running Daredevil, you’d be using DD/SA/Trickery, most likely. And look, you just lost all the damage-oriented traits from DA! Or maybe you’d be running DD/DA/Trickery and lose a ton of defenses? Or lastly, DD/DA/SA and lose the utility gained from Trickery?

Even without that, your suggestion does not make sense. DD gets punished for the 1s cooldown just as much as vanilla thief.

I made my guardian a Human, because I felt that the T3 human cultural armor was very Guardian-esque (Logan Thackeray and whatnot). I made my Elementalist a Sylvari because it’d be ironic for a plant to control fire. I made my Necromancer an Asura because I felt that Necromancy would be shunned due to their preference of golemancy.

If I made an Engineer, I think it would be a Charr because of their expertise of machinery. If I made a Ranger, it would be a Sylvari for that “one with nature” vibe.

As for gender, all of my characters are male, as am I.

[Suggestion] New Gathering Tool Knife

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Olba.5376

So the main problem (for me, don’t know about you) is framing Leather and Cloth in this game. So my suggetion is to add a new gathering tool that Skins Leather out of dead animals and cut Cloth (of dead humanoid’s clothing).
And I know that you can get alot of Cloth and Leather from salvging items you don’t need but if you want a guaranteed (atleast1) Cloth or Leather from low end tries (like Linen) it’s a very annyoing and frustrating progress to get them out of the bags or other trops.

This will never happen. We already have cloth and leather nodes in WvW (and you can buy ones for Home as well) that use the sickle.

As for salvaging, you can buy salvage items from the TP that yield 2 different tiers of cloth/leather, with the exception of the Unstable ones that have a chance to yield any tier.

  2. 8 seconds of invulnerability – with Endure Pain/Defy Pain this also has no downside as they can attack while invulnerable.
  3. Last Stand – Instant stun-breaker and 8 seconds of Stability
  4. Berserk + Eternal Champion – Berserk effects and stability, fury, Quickness, Swiftness. Plus might when you stun-break.
  5. Healing Signet – No need to even stop to heal.
  6. 3 leaps – allowing to move 2,250 units away in 3.75 seconds. With recharges in 8s, 10s, 20s.
  1. Headshot, Skull Grinder, Rupturing Smash, Gun Flame, Pistol Whip, Skull Crack, Earthshaker, Berserk if you trait it.
  2. It’s not invulnerability. It’s immunity to direct damage, you still take condi damage.
  3. No one takes Last Stand, it’s a kittenty trait compared to Rousing Resilience and Cleansing Ire.
  4. All of which can be corrupted by a necro or a stolen by a Thief pretty much instantly.
  5. Healing Signet is ridiculously weak to poison.
  6. An extra 2250 movement every 20 seconds is nothing. Base movement speed is twice that, so it’s effectively the same as having Swiftness on at all times.

And there are people, like myself, who keep the daily wvw exp pots, so that I can instantly get any reward track from 0 to full as soon as it’s available.

I always assumed you’d get to choose what the gobbler did. Getting a random transformation or boost seems a bit too, um, random to be useful.

The price and availability of Candy Corn makes the Gobbler an excellent source of Experience Booster or Item Booster.

Personally, I bought the Gobbler and am currently running around in WvW getting permanent 150% reward track boosting. This is especially true since I can choose to run the Halloween reward track that gives out Trick or Treat bags, allowing a perpetual cycle. Once that track isn’t available anymore, I’ll have enough bags (and thus candy corn) to last me a long, long time, allowing me to complete other reward tracks for things I really want.

To be on-topic: I use the Candy Corn Gobbler every single day before I start running around in WvW. I don’t think the cooldown should be removed, because that would literally allow me (and everyone else) to buy a kittenton of candy corn and spam it to get days and days of buffs.

Final Thrust seems like classic Anet thematics over practicality. Sword is a condi weapon and Final Thrust just doesn’t fit in. Give it a Feast of Corruption overhaul.

Sword actually functions pretty well regardless of your build. Final Thrust has a very high damage modifier and the mobility from Savage Leap is awesome. Sword can also function as a hybrid if you opt for Viper stats, as that’ll give you good condi damage while maintaining decent power for Final Thrust.

Learn from WoW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Olba.5376

On top of that, quests interacted with each other. For example, I did a quest for a demon, and then I had to do another quest to kill that demon, in order to atone for my sins.

A lot of dynamic events function precisely like that. Not to mention the Personal Story.

Another thing to note is the detail involved in the questing. Quests have tons of flavor text, and directly relate to the world around you. Guild wars 2 hearts give you maybe 2 sentences, and even then, most people miss out, because you are never required to go talk to the person giving the quest.

That’s because in Guild Wars 2, you are not a legendary/destined/foretold hero from Day 1. You’re just a normal guy, who happens to win the favor of his people, joins an international organization and eventually the military. Most of the stuff that you end up doing is menial tasks exactly because you’re not some legendary warrior who gets called to slay dragons and whatnot.

Another thing that WoW has is tangible class roles. I know, none of us want the holy trinity, but currently, the split between heavy, medium, and light classes feel pretty weak. Guardians and warriors lack active defenses, besides the occasional shield block or agis proc, healing doesn’t feel rewarding, and you rarely ever have the thrill of seeing big numbers flash onto your screen from damage(besides DH or Reaper)

I don’t think you have played Warrior too much. Stances are an entire set of skills that are active defense/offense.

And what you mean by “big numbers” is entirely subjective. If you’re playing a build that has very high critical hit rate, you’re obviously never going to be fazed by critical damage. But there are skills that are designed with high damage coefficients, such as Hundred Blades, Pistol Whip, Eviscerate, and Kill Shot.

WoW also has far more spells, allowing you to have more options, as well as adding more flavor to each class. Not that guild wars needs to add more slots for skills, but a few added skills to replace what we currently have would be nice. Maybe fighting techniques that you get when you equip a new set of traits?

Having more skills is redundant as kitten when you just end up making macros out of multiple skills cast in succession. Not to mention having skills that have objectively superior counterparts.

Oh and btw, the Elite Specialization does exactly what you said. It gives you access to a new set of skills and a weapon.

While we are on the concept of traits, wow does them better. Each line that you choose to go down greatly impacts your play style, allowing you to have a real sense of uniqueness. For example, nobody in a WoW plays a warrior. Anyone who plays identifies as a fury warrior, an arms warrior, or a protection warrior. Currently, none of the base classes without elite specs have this. A good solution might be linking utility skills to traits, either adding new skills based on traits you take, or linking utility families to trait families, for example, linking confederations to zeal for guardians. This would make it so that you would only be able to take confederations if you spec into the zeal trait line. This would shake up the meta extremely, I know, but it would force players to be creative, and add identity to the build that you run.

In Guild Wars 2, most people describe their profession not based on their traits, but the entire build they are using, such as “Shoutbow Warrior”. Or by the type of damage they are doing, such as “Condi Thief”.

And we’re already seeing linking between traits and utilities: An elite specialization unlocks a new set of skills and a new weapon. And there are weapon specific traits that result in obvious links between weapons and traitlines.

"Only" 4 maps?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

I’ve heard that arguement too, and it doesn’t make sense. Because something is above ground or underground doesn’t make it another map. It makes it another level of the same map.

So if I take the underground part of a map and rather than occupying the same “space”, I just give it some kind of cave entrance at the edge of the map, would that make it a new map? Why/Why not?

What arbitrary rules are you setting for what defines a “map”? Because if it’s about having a map of its own, then that condition is fulfilled by every single Home instance and the separate levels in places like the Grove.

The thing is, dynamic events fit better with the theme of an on-going war. Orr was always dynamic events only and it was the forefront of the Pact’s offense against Zhaitan. I don’t see why it should be any different here.

Dynamic Events or Renown hearts have nothing to do with NPCs remembering you. Nothing about dynamic events prevents ANet from adding a flag that would result in different NPC dialogue if you’ve already been to an area.

In my opinion, the good part about Renown hearts was that they were a bit different from your typical MMORPG quest. Rather than “go harvest this” or “go kill this”, you had things like “WAKE UP THE DRUNK NORN”.

"Map Full" solution idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

So, with HoT having map-wide events that (for now) require a high level of coordination, guilds are attempting to all join up on the same map to take down bosses like Chak Gerent or Mouth of Mordy. But we’re encountering the same old issue… maps fill quickly and people risk carpel tunnel doing the old right-click/join/OK/right-click/join/OK process.

What is the solution for this? A lot of ideas have been thrown around but I think I’ve got one that works pretty well with current systems.

Currently, when a map is emptying out, people get a prompt to move to another map, with some bonus stats as incentive. What if we did the same in reverse? If the game could detect when guildies are trying to get in a map with their other guildies, but the map is full, perhaps people not from that guild could get prompts to go to another map (with a stat bonus incentive)?

Guildies get to do events with guildies, and other people get bonuses for being nice. Thoughts?

So what happens when the map is filled by two large guilds of roughly the same size? Who gets booted out of the map? What about three guilds? Four? Five? Ten?

What about situations where a big guild is trying to get into a map, while only a few of their members are in it? And again, what would happen if another guild decides to join up? What if multiple guilds do?

And what about being able to complete the event at all? Should my ability to complete an event be negatively affected by some random guild who wants to do the same event?

And honestly, as a guildless person, I don’t like systems like this. Every player should be equal in the eyes of the game, regardless of whether they are in a guild or not. Regardless of how big the guild they are in is.

Don’t think for a moment that an existence of a system like this would not have negative consequences. A guild pops in, I don’t want to transfer over. With the system, the guild now knows that I am “not letting their people in”. I’d be pretty much guaranteed to get hateful whispers from that guild.

Math in a void, DPS and the Meta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

I think that many players assume to know what or how devs think when they develop a class in any MMO and GW2 isn’t any different. There is so many things wrong with how the meta is pushed in the game and how it negatively impacts it that it’s hard to find a place to start asking questions or having a discussion. I can’t get over the fact that despite how far from reality the theorycrafting calculations are, they are still the standard that people use to act out on others. The only thing the calcs do is give a theoretical upper damage limit for a rotation/build for SPECIFIC and IDEAL situations.

The bottom line is: if you have any capacity to think for yourself, do so and come to your own conclusions; this isn’t rocket science. The math on a spreadsheet only takes you so far. Don’t be a sheep.

Good players and guilds make ideal situations more common. They figure out how to position or manipulate an encounter to get the highest dps possible. They make the math a reality.

‘Being good’ doesn’t affect all the assumptions that are being used to make these calculations; for instance, ‘being good’ doesn’t prevent you from having to dodge, something the calcs don’t take into account.

Even for factors where ‘being good’ does affect, the math still does not approach the values that are realistic to what happens in the game.

It does mean that you minimize dodging as much as possible. Good examples are dungeon groups that take advantage of Mesmer reflects and Guardian aegis to eliminate or greatly reduce the need for movement, in order to maximize dps uptime.

Once again, good group will take advantage of all possible mechanics to maximize their dps uptime, in order to get as close to the theoretical maximum as possible.

Ceiling values are very relevant. Good players will practice their rotation over and over to get as close to that ceiling as possible. If a different build has a higher ceiling, then they’ll change their build and try to get close to the ceiling of the new build.

Sure, there is a small amount of people who use the ceiling as a target to see how close they can get. That’s not the problem with these calcs, so put that to rest.

The problem is that there is a MASSIVE number of people that use the ceiling calculation as ‘proof’ of what professions are good or bad and act stupidly because of it. Some of these people even believe it’s an obtainable value.

There really isn’t anything you can do about that. There will always be people who will misinterpret the data, whether intentionally or due to ignorance.

Math in a void, DPS and the Meta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

When you’re talking about DPS, there’s not that many ways to look at it. In most cases, assuming ideal conditions is far simpler than assuming the worst possible conditions. Not to mention that the worst conditions are usually far more absurd than the ideal conditions.

What you have to be able to do is properly interpret the numbers you get. A dungeon clear time under ideal conditions is going to be your minimum, whereas your clear under the worst conditions will present the maximum. And quite often, the assumptions made with theorycrafted DPS figures are rather unreasonable. But making it proper via calculating margins of error and whatnot would add a lot of complexity.

HoT Vs EotN Expansions

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

  1. 41 new armor sets, including rare, stand-alone pieces
  2. 100 new profession-specific skills (10 per profession, none of which are elite)
50 new PvE only skills including 3 elite skills
  3. 10 new heroes
  4. 18 Dungeons
  5. 124 new quests
  6. The Hall of Monuments, a place which allows you to obtain unique titles, companions, weapons, armor, and miniatures in Guild Wars 2 based on your achievements in the original Guild Wars.
  1. Considering the new engine, developing new armor sets takes far, far more resources, so expecting the same, or even comparable, quantity of skins would be silly. Particularly since selling skins for Gems is part of the monetization of GW2, which automatically discourages dumping a bunch of skins on people.
  2. With Elite Specializations, we’re looking at 1 healing skill, 1 elite and 4 utility skills for every profession for a total of 48. There’s also 37 new weapon skills, not counting follow-up skills such as auto-attack chains. Add in the profession mechanics and I’d say you’re at 100+ new skills. Not to mention Revenant.
  3. There is no comparable mechanic in GW2 so bringing it up is kind of moot.
  4. Well, we’re getting Raids and no one knows how that’s going to compare. And measuring dungeons in quantity is kind of silly, you could easily copy-paste the same dungeon but swap the enemies and end up with a bunch of dungeons that are, for all intents and purposes, one and the same.
  5. I don’t know how many quests HoT brings, but as with dungeons, measuring quests in quantity is kind of pointless.
  6. We got additional collections and the Mastery System.

More than the previous campaigns, Eye of the North is full of easter eggs and “hidden” quests, which are not immediately accessible.

The thing is, the times have changed. Nowadays we have websites like Dulfy that thrive on revealing everything. Not to mention that we have people actively datamining the game files for any hints of possible future changes, so any “hidden” stuff would most likely be datamined within days of release.

I’ve not delved too deeply into HoT so far but for those that have, how does what we bought compare to the previous expansion in terms of content and value for money

While I haven’t played GW1, I have played other games with expansions. I would say that GW2 does rather well in comparison to the games I have played.

It could also be that the build link is from an older version of the trait system, causing some of the traits to default to blanks.

I’m sorry, can you clarify by what you mean by all upgrades will be destroyed? If you change the stats on an (infused) ascended ring, will it no longer be (infused), or will you still be able to include a +10 agony infusion? Are the slots in the equipment still existent or are they destroyed along with the upgrades?

You can’t change stats on trinkets. The recipe only works for armors and weapons.
