We can now buff our allies! We can now become a true bunker support healer! We can now be an Auramancer!
Clearly the sarcasm was missed here. The tempest brings us nothing new, just more boons healing and auras to the master of boons healing and auras.
If ele was seen as the jack of all trades how would any thing added to ele bring something new? If you do every thing as is what else is there? Any way tempest is a lot better at boon sharing vs say a d/d on ele. Also tempest has an added skill that makes existing boons last longer there IS nothing on ele that works this way and there nothing in the game that works this way.
What else where you looking for more dmg?
Not necessarily, we have damage we just cant use it. We were looking for a new way to play, not just water/arcane celestial cantrips. Some of us have been around since beta, the play-style hasn’t changed, ever. And this spec isn’t changing it. We needed a new method of survivability, something other than boons and healing to supplement our kitten tier hp/armor. The utilites had to compete on the level of cantrips to keeping us alive, the elite only had to not suck, the weapon needed to bring a new playstyle and without it being mainhand/twohand it cant do that. The devs were lazy 12-20 skills AND animations were too much so they went with WH 1 animation and 8 skills.
We can now buff our allies! We can now become a true bunker support healer! We can now be an Auramancer!
Tempest doesn’t have a single trait or skill that grants stability, WHAT? In a spec all about channeling long casts? Seriously?
Did you look at the traits?
Lucid Singularity.
You should probably look up what stability is. Hint: its a buff that protects you from certain disables, more specifically ones that stop the channeling of spells.
Just Start Over
The reason why you would want to pop mainly AoE befor you start a fight is for the tempest boon sharing you will give your pt 10 stack of stab and 6 sec of protection maybe one of the strongest aoe stab effect in the game. If done right and build right you will give 10 stack of stab for 8 sec and 17 sec of protection.
Yeah but the elite has nothing to do with this. Its borderline useless in most situations. Even reducing the CD of other elites doesnt make it good. Most of the time you dont pop an elite just because its up, you pop it in that critical situation. so shaving 20-30 seconds off an elite of another player isn’t going to be gamechanging in the slightest. because there’s no guarantee that they will need it in that 30 second window which they now have it earlier. And elites that you do pop much more often when they are off CD are all usually much shorter CDS in which case the effect isn’t even that much.
This ability is useless and you will still see taxi sword used nearly all of the time.
Just pray your class doesnt go the way tempest did. My prediction is that the consensus of the theif elite spec is going to be “Well, at least its better than tempest”
Lol didnt think at that. So there is no way to cast an overload in a maradeur/zerk speck without be killed
Maybe for a few weeks it will be buggy and we can hide in mistform while channeling………………………………………………….
I was hoping for a viable DPS build in pvp. Maybe with a new mainhand. Now i can only hope for some rework at the scepter that will still be an underpower burst spec
As was I but we lost this when they chose WH over Sword or literally any main hand that could bring a cadence similar to scepter burst rotations but in melee, and self defense sustain like evades blocks and blinds to stay alive in melee.
I agree scepter needs a rework as well, as do half our utilities, some other wep skills, and all of our elites.
Seriously, you can have it; none of us want another trash tier elite that doesn’t even fit our class theme.
As a general consensus Tempest will be bringing nothing new to the table of elementalist, unlike other elite specs. Tempest just brings more aura traits, more reliance on boons as our only defence, and more team healing. All things we can already do, and do do just fine. Ele is already the definition of the bruser class in PVP. Karl I have no idea what you were thinking when you said “We would like ele to move to more of a support bruiser class” (paraphrasing of course) We litterally have the best support, healing, boonshare in the game. Not only that but you gave us another trash tier elite that doesn’t even make sense as a tempest. You have my and many others feedback all over the forums.
Question
Are you willing to rework tempest completely based on feedback from the ele forms and work with us to build something that will Truly bring us something new (and actually be viable..)?
WH is decent, but it’s only good if you’re going full support.
Good point, but then the question is, does it support better than staff?
Probably not, because staff can support up to 1200 range, and can still cast all its stuff in melee too.
Idk Depending on how the boon share works on WH sharing all the boons that normally make ele borderline OP could be pretty strong. Pair that with the stun removal assuming it works it “could” compete
I wouldn’t take any elite skill over a utility even if elites could be used in utility slots. Thats how bad elites are. Hell, I wouldn’t even sacrifice the vast majority of my weapon skills for them.
Weapon swap available after overload, leaving the attune resets your weapon until.
THEN overload would be viable and weaponswap wouldn’t be OP
Actually kitten overload. After the 5s of being in the attune reactivating it swaps weapons and sets the CD to 10 seconds for that attun and 5 seconds for all others.
And overloads are pretty strong (fire overload can kill heavy golems without zerk gear…)
Actually Karl said he was switching between marauder and carrion. That vid was done with a Marauder amulet on. Just look at how many crits he hit.
I could see Water/Arcan/Temp Taking the role of the current Water/Arc/EarthorFire. Leaving Arcane WONT happen for the celestial d/d (and no WH wont replace here). In these cases it would be taken for the prot bonus, stunbreak, and aura heal. Although the loss of might, blind and damage mods from fire and will make this a more utility version where fire is more damage, and earth is the more self defense. The overloads will be used coming in to quickly end a +1 into a +2 or wipe. Running away if taking the condi removal one. Or bursting after sustain dps when you can guarantee they have no more stuns (note if you fail this burst you’ll likely lose the fight) Using at the start or middle of the fight without successfully downing an opponent will weaken yourself and team with that lockout and you will likely lose your fight not being able to rotate properly.
The other build that will come will be Water/earth/temp with a cleric and X/WH and mass aura share shouts with condi clear runes.
So congrats you get a slightly utility version of the classic d/d arc/water/X celest
You get a new way to play auramancer, cause we needed that…. and a new way to play bunker support, cause we needed that…
Zerker build will be EVEN LESS VIABLE with tempest. go into PVP put on a maurader amulet. Equip tornado and try to live for 5 seconds. Then just try standing on mid and casting churning earth. Then explain how the kitten your going to use an overload as a zerker with not only getting interrupted, but not dying before the duration ends.
Tempest does not bring a new playstyle. It brings a niche set of utility via actives and will not change the fact we have to rotate constantly to be viable. WH is decent, but it’s only good if you’re going full support.
The only way they could have made this worse was to make it a kazoo instead.
False, I’d roll kazoo everyday. I change my vote from 4 to 5 since I just realized it could have been a kazoo instead.
I’m simply baffled by how they completely redid the guardian elites, and some mesmer utilities and elite yet didn’t even touch our useless Tornado.
Not to mention how they completely redid some engi kits but did nothing for our scepter.
But they gave us support. They even said on stream they want us to fill the support bruiser roll we’ve never been before for 3 years and better at than everyone else at. They clearly know things about scepter/utilities/trait-lines that you don’t that actually makes them viable, we just haven’t figure it out yet. Didn’t you see the skill and understanding of the class when he almost got overloads off multiple times on cheiften? Then that time he almost died showing how great WH and tempest is in BUT HE DIDNT DIE DID HE. We should trust the Ele design team they know what they are doing.
Rebound
Instant cast
2 seconds of haste
50% for your own CD
Tornado
Cantrip
Creates a swirling field around you pulling enemies in every 4 seconds in 400 radius enemies within 100 radus are launched away 200 range. Last 16 seconds Whirl finisher every 1s low damage in 300 radius aoe
Based on the Attune you are in:
Fire – creates trail of fire wherever you go lasting 4 seconds (fire feild, synergizes with constant whirl)
Air – Absorbs projectiles, leaving air or ending the ability blasts for 25% of the projectile damage around you
Water – Rain falls around you creating a water field while in water lasting 2s after leaving it.
Earth – Generate stability 1s every 1s for self and allies and strip stability 1 stack per second from enemies.
CD 220s
This is not a transform rather a buff effect and does not lock out any abilities.
FSG
Good as is. Rework is needed for all conjures to work like kits, have no charges, better bonus effects etc (not all but some of these changes)
Elemental
Increase HP/Armor to the point you need to actually target it to kill them not accidentally auto 2 attack cleaves…
Spells need to be instant not delayed.
No summon duration, permanent until dead.
I agree the elite is lacking, to make the elite better it should be changed to something like next non-elite skill or overload used instantly recharges. Because the elite effects both the ele and allies it would work very well. I wonder if the skill works with icebow 4 >:)
Shaves a whole 5 seconds off that recharge! So ELITE!
Or you use it for something like AoE and stop being bad at GW2 and the ele class.
Yea buddy!! Just got stunned?? It’s ok, don’t stunbreak…just use that 3/4s cast ability after you get up (if still alive), then use your stunbreak so it is on a 15s less cast time!! That is the pinnacle of skill!
Nah you’re doing it wrong. you have to preemptively predict multiple allies about to use their ultis ~second early. While baiting a stun so that you can shave the CD of your stunbreak. Then when you get stunned and somehow mindkitten your allies to not cast anything else before their ulti like their own stun breaks or stability or anything like that. Oh and for all that work its only 25% something you can get on most abilities with a trait…
Seriously It needs to be instant, and maybe grant haste for 2-3 seconds. Increasing the CDR to 50% for your own ability. Then ulti + a hasted overcharge could actually become viable every 60s
Actually the Damage allows you to remove blind when you land on someone so you can get the damage portion of BS and other channeled spells off.
Now whether or not that makes it deserve a higher CD and lower range is still completely debatable. Especially since they removed the stunbreak…..
People a don’t seem to realize that tidal surge will cure a condition with cleansing water. Still a bit more on the water field would be nice.
I’m not sure that’s referring to me but that just further locks ele into water as our most mandatory tree. It’s not part of the weapon mechanic, both focus and dagger have condi cleanse without needing the water trait line. Hence I did not include it(I actually removed it as I was moving things around)
I mean, watching the devs talk and show gameplay of ele makes me cringe. It’s like watching beta players try to play and explain ele. But have you seen them do Guard videos? They look really kittening good. I’m not saying that balancing and design is easy. I’m not saying the devs are incompetent, because they do good elsewhere. But we could use a better dev team for the Ele and general spvp ballence. The refusal to take feedback from the community and lack of understanding of why the ele is pigonholed into the meta like it is, is causing things like the tempest, warhorn, and previously proposed changes to exist. Its why our elites are trash and were stuck in cantrips. Its why the most support oriented class was given more support for its elite spec. The current method for solving our problems is trying to make cool things to draw us out of them.. that doesn’t make them viable…
4 – it does not bring a new playstyle. We didn’t need more support. Overload will be a situation fight finisher / fight running tool. Rework and synergy with conjurs could have had potential but they went for MORE auras…. They chose a massive team support weap OH (you know that thing we already do best… support) instead of a melee individualist wep that would bring sustained auto attacks and mele self defense (you know a new playstyle option)
Overload Channel Time
Seriously they tried to demo against chief and he got interrupted over and over… You guys play pvp. Interrupts are handed out like candy and with our only access to stability being armor of earth and possibly 2 seconds when swapping to earth (idk how you’d even take that if your taking arc/water/tempest)
Arcane Reliance
Even in the demo it was apparent this is not a spec that will get us out of arcane, quite the opposite. The synergy between arcane CD reduction and the need of that extra blast finisher, not to mention the boon duration, show we are not leaving arcane for standard pvp play.
Condition Removal AKA Water Reliance
WH – None
Tempest – Movement immune during overload with a trait that competes with 2 traits that seem 100% better Could be great for running away…
A Wait delayed water overload meaning you have to soak ~5s of condi before you can start your cleanse and then put water on CD for 20 seconds…
So how does this help us leave water? Run shouts with Runes for condi clense… I’m not seeing it sorry… Were still stuck in water, more than arcane.
Celestial, Arcane, and Water
I think a cleric earth/water/tempest D/WH or maybeeee S/WH might come out of this. Especially with the support healing/boonshare/boost/striping/knockdowns/etc WH brings.
I think Celest arc/water/temp D/D will be competing with celest arc/water/fire I think it replaces the idea of arc/water/earth (also replaced by cleric style above). I could see Tempest being taken over fire for the extra damage reuc. heal on auras, free stun break and superspeed. The extra abilities for certain situations are going to become like EA where it feels unnatural to play the class without them. I hate to say it but unlike other classes where the elite changes the play-style I fear tempest for ele is going to be like EA in this play-style where it just doesn’t feel correct without having it and the loss of utility will outweigh the benefits of other trait-lines. Think tempest will further lock our title as 1v1 king bringing us huge damage dealers out to finish fights rather than just out-sustaining everyone with constant damage.
Will we leave cantrips/water Nope
Did we get a new playstyle? -Not only do the mechanics not bring a new playstyle, but they further force us into the support role.
So Anyone see where use might come out of this spec other than forcing us into the same role and/or more supporty role than we already were… If there is any non cleric/celest build that you think would ACTUALLY be competitive and viable please list it I’d love to see the ideas.
Those of you whom actively play Spvp and understand the meta around Spvp, Where do you see this fitting in?
Why Take Tempest
- More Support – We are already the kings here, it’s kinda sad that this is considered “new” Maybe I’ve been playing the wrong game all this time idk…
- New Playstyle – Well yeah not rotating atune like a madman might seem new but not rotating loses MASSIVE synergy with the traits of our class. It would be great if staying in an atune was actually viable, ya know like if we had auto attack damage and not 25+sec CDs on basically every 3-5 skill. Cause staying in an attune with a crap auto and 1 other ability isn’t really an option. These skills will be situational fight enders or fight escapes.
- Auras – Why does it seem like A-net wants Auramancer to be a thing… Second to that we now have Aura traits in EVERY SINGLE TRAIT LINE… Does anyone not like auras because they require the enemy to actually hit you… hence we have to build defensive to maximize their use, hence my next point Aside from this the aura trait look promising assuming no ICD
- Things listed below
Traits
- Major A Gale Song This will be the primary selection, latent stam could be good but requires a team to get the effects… Unstable Conduit Aura mancer is not going to be a thing
- Major M Earthen Proxy Yeah prot is our only defense mechanic, lets make it better Harmonius Conduit I really dont see how 20% is going to help (unless you stack it with the new elite and arcane trait line (yep totally going to get to leave arcane…) Also I dont think this competes with earthen. Tempestous Aria Now this i could possibly see if taking Gale Song and Eye of the Storm as a stunbreak and another shout somewhere. I just don’t see that being better than earthen for having to sacrifice so much to make use of it (cantrips)
- Major G Element Bastion This goes well with our current playstyle, I appove, Will it promote auramancer? nah Imbued Melodies if you take a WH it would be viable (assuming it doesn’t activate every 10 seconds and only goes on ICD when it breaks a stun) but this brings us to taking WH. Lucid Singularity Needs stability, bottom line.
WH
- Fire WH Support boonshare(this could be borderline OP), BoonRip Damage dealing fire field. Okay love the spell. but the CD means as a fire field its use is minimal. Getting a boon rip was my dream, too bad it didnt come as the utility shout… it would be perfect there Dager/Focu Losing low CD fire fields with higher burn up-time/damage If WH4 is full boon share (duration and stacks) I could see it competing.
- Air WH AOE pull on a lower CD than our updraft and gale yeah… OP. Lightning Orb If that can it the same target over and over I could see this being incredibly strong. How this interacts with terrain is going to decide if its in a good place. Assuming this works well and climbs stairs and such I think it could be worth sacrificing RTL.
- Water WH We get a water feild.. and another AOE knockback. dager/foci Lose frost aura and clensing wave, title surge will replace this for the most part since we’ll be running water and it grants regen. Water-field is going to be strong paired with a coordinated team. Personally never though freezing gust or comment competed with dagger, I don’t see them competing with WH.
- Earth WH Another support boon boost. this time 4 s of protection. Loss of blast finisher. Dust storm is looking OP dager/foci Dag 5 is nearly never usable, but the interupt was great, we lost the blast but gained interupt in water. Focus still is far better for self survivability (although that dust strom might just be OP enough to suffice) Loss of Condi clear (further forcing water on WH users)
*_Downside to WH_ is loss of mobility from dagger and condi clear from focus. Loss of Auras as well. Loss of a blast finisher.
I said it at the start the only way we would take WH over dag/foci is if its borderline OP and well… yeah the abilites are looking that way…
Shouts
- Heal – Solid Team support spell, Will be taken with Cleric Support builds if they become a thing, Will not replace sigil for bruisers. _Welcome to support. If you havent noticed already our role in this game is support. No you don’t get to play they way you want, cant you tell your a healer/support. _
- Util – EotS – Strong, Personally the only one I see truly being used. Fire/Earth/Water With the spec going towards water/arcane/tempest we gain no protection/fury/swiftness from auras. I could see these being used in a perma protection aura build running earth/water/tempest (this would likely be the cleric support build)
- Elite – its not even instant, you can’t cast it during a spell channel (of your own) to get the effects on that CD. Solution make it grant 2s of haste on the next spell cast. That would make this elite worth taking.
Not true, you don’t have to be using Teamspeak in order to cast it in opportune moments. All you have to do is pay careful attetion to your allies and decide when is fine to use the shout (i.e. when you have a tank warrior or guardian in your team and they need to use a healing ability but they’ve had use it before).
So you now know all the cds of your allies and know when they are going to use something before they use it and expect that they wont use something else at the same time?
And what about instant casts through other abilities? Think meditations on guardians, they use those through healing quite often, think teleports, shielding effects and stab generation.
you might get 1 right every few matches…
….
It’s not that I don’t want to be an ele, I wanted something new to be brought to the class to give us options to take a different role. You simply want more of the same with some sugar coating making it look different.
Okay well if That’s cascading aoe then I guess that could be cool but if that’s the case I think sword makes even more sense in that role. Think stab the ground and a fissure starts forming out spewing lava in a cone shape toward your enemy. thing similar concept for both ice and earth from the ground in a cascading effect. Think full 360 effects of the same concept cascading away from you. I think sword works here really well actually.
Oh and fire great sword 2 is kinda a cascading aoe.
Do you not play ranger or know how it works even slightly? Its an ability without ground targeting or a target wise guy. You just press the button and it works if you are close enough to the enemy. You can even move away and the birds will still attack it.
You must run with Auto Target on cause it does not work like you say. As an ele you really shouldn’t use auto target you lose utility with it enabled.
You are not a thief, I am not a thief. Sword do not daze or stun because other classes don’t have the mechanics for stealth attacks and dual attacks.
Main hand swords do not block. You are thinking of offhand swords. If you want to be given an offhand sword instead of a main hand you can just ask.
You are an elementalist. In all weapon sets the aoe capability of the auto attack is modified. You are not going to get a sword with 4 cleaving autoattacks.
No I’m not a theif, but the fact that ele have been the bunker/sustain class with the lowest hp/armor in the game should show you something. We cant run zerker builds effectively because of the way our class is structured. A sword could provide utility to allow us to break free of this. And I was simply listing utility that a sword could bring. MH swords do not currently block but its well within reason (not with WH though) MH bring reflect (zelots defense), Inv (blade furry), criples, evades, daze, teleport, imobalize, even boon steal.
It could open access to a new playstyle for ele if done right, and yeah auto chains could have been done uniquely to allow for mid atune swap chain continuation (maybe 2/3 hit have different effects in each atune but the chain is shared) and cleave could easily be given to every stance, there’s no reason it shouldn’t. The utility of the sword 2/3s in each attune could be balanced around the idea that you swap to that attune to use the spell not to follow a rotation to keep your buffs up. Sword could have had a huge impact on our class, much more than WH, it just cant offer the same benefits, and likely wont compete with our current OH that well.
…
Um define cascading aoe. Cause I was defining it as an aoe that hits in multiple waves or a similar fashion. Yeah most of the AOE I listed seems more sporadic but follows the same concept using waves of damage. If you want a cascading Tiered damage as the one listed you should probably define your use of words. Also there is no reason sword couldn’t bring this type of spell.
Mobile Aoe with warhorn brings the problem of forcing scepter users into melee range for full benefits (obviously blocking projectiles would work but damage and conditions would not) I’m not really a fan of mobile aoe (seriously I hate necros warhorn aoe as it puts me in combat on kylo WAY to much)
I want a sword that would bring offensive utilities such as blocks, evades, blinds, daze, stun, teleports that could supplement the survivability of cantrips, freeing us from water and cele amulet. A weapon that could bring us consistent auto attack damage in multiple attainments (not just fire staff and air dagger) improving Pve as well as PvP as it would give us a reason not to stance dance for buffs to supplement our hp/armor pool and make up for the damage we have to invest into sustain. A new weapon would have been the perfect chance to break the standard ele playstyle of rotating attun and actually stick in an element. It had so much to offer. when you compare that to a WH and the fact we have 2 OH that are amazing and cover nearly everything it doesn’t take a high school diploma to see that sword is a better choice.
So unimaginative.
Warhorn is guaranteed to have either a cascading aoe or a mobile aoe. Neither dagger nor focus can provide that. The damaging aoes from warhorn are always superior (Birds, locusts) the specialization will being something even grander.
“Cascading aoe” um we have this, lots of it frost bow 4, staff fire 5, glyph of storms, GS 5, hammer 4….
“mobile aoe” the mobile aoe in this game (very little amout of) is very lacking in damage and utility compared to positioned aoe (for good reason it allows escape). The only effective mobile aoe is called cleave, and it happens to be a part of melee weapons, one is quite often called a sword.
The specialization has nothing to do with the discussion between sword and war-horn as the spec would apply to them and all other weapons. What it brings would have been equivalent, independent of the weapon, so using that argument to support WH is silly.
Now using the spec argument to argue if it will be able to compete with our current 1:arcane/water 2:cantrips and 3:elite skills is speculation, but likely going to be answered as 1:no, probly the 3rd spot, 2:highly unlikely, they havent been able to since beta 3:could they honestly do worse.
FIRST OF ALL, Nearly every class can use sword and all those sword skills (guard, warrior, ranger, thief, mesmer, and possibly revenant) are just standard melee skills (cuts, slashes, blinks, dodge, etc) which are things dagger kinda already does. -.-
Actually dagger doesn’t really do any of these things. LW is the closest to a cut or slash and can only be used in 1/4 attune, all other autos aren’t even close. It has no blinks and the only evade is BS, very rarely used for just an evade. It has no blocks, blinds, daze, stun(I guess you could count shock aura? but its not on command so can’t interrupt channeling) So no, sword is not just dagger. Dagger is also not true melee and has no auto attack chains.
Summoning storms around you like Locus swarm and instant aoes at an enemies location like Hunter’s call without having to ground target would make me more excited
OH GOD NO!! HAVE YOU NOT PLAYED WITH SCEPTERS?? PLEASE NO ABILITIES WITHOUT GROUND TARGETING.
I Would go further into explain why WH sucks but you can open any thread and read about it. I have yet to see a argument showing that WH is a better choice than Sword other than “I think it’s cool” and “the new spec will make ele better”, um yeah sure but whats that have to do with WH?
Could be, I could see a party themed warhorn. Though I’m not sure where that would see much use.
I think your starting to figure out why no one wants it.
Never thought I’d use these words but the artwork doesn’t depict fashion wars 2 very well. Like seriously that ele is just ugly. The quality of the artwork is still there, but you cant help but cringe at it.
(though then again it not only has a WH, but a poor looking WH. It kinda just distracts you from everything else with disappointment)
Just to clarify to everyone this isn’t the only reason I’m not buying the expo, but Ele is my class since beta and I love playing it.
When they anounced stronghold my favorite part of the game spvp was not getting what it needed or what has been asked for since day one. They chose to ignore the spvp community and instead of putting in competitive modes such as 2v2 and 3v3 arena modes, working leaderboards, and skill based reward systems to hold and generate playerbase, they chose to make a wvw style gamemode to pull players from other areas of their game. The majority of spvp main players would much rather have a true competitive format and rating system instead. We wanted a rework of the mists and dueling to kill time. None of which was granted or even acknowledged. GW2 has some of the greatest combat in current games and its severely held back by being locked into noncompetitive modes such as stronghold and tough to organize modes such as capture point (5v5 teams are exponentially harder to form, practice, and keep together than 2v2 and 3v3 sizes, especially with the low playerbase were at)
Add this to the fact that zerg in wvw isnt fun and roaming has far to much downtime for the few great fights you can get before a zerg runs you over. So the expo bringing new maps doesn’t interest me. I’m also no a GvG player so that modes not interesting either.
PvE has always been something I only did in downtime to unlock skins and such, and more of an obsessive completion thing over something I enjoy, so further content here isn’t something I need. But when I did play with my ele, running fractals ascended zerk set and all, I kittening hated sitting in fire and auto attacking and being more effective 90% of the time than working my kitten of in a fresh air build to perfectly rotate without getting 1 shot at melee range. All the mentioning in this post are true when it comes to the need of a cleave wep for pve.
So when they announced the expo and all the pre release stuff I learned from my inital purchase and history with arena net that they don’t listen to their playerbase. So I decided not to purchase until I knew everything about their PvP revamp and Ele class spec. And look at what happened. I’m not even surprised, when the WH was data-mined I knew we would get it. I participated in the uproar with everyone else to try to sway Anet to change like we somehow got with EA (Like seriously who the hell paid them to change that back I gotta thank you) but you don’t win the lotto twice.
I can still play GW2 without the expo and nothing will change, And if they release new things down the road I can always buy it then. But getting WH when Sword was clearly the superior choice in every aspect to well round our class out was just a giant slap to the face, and I wont support a company who does that anymore. Now if tempest brings a rework and alteration to auto attacks on weapons then maybe I’ll change my mind but I won’t get my hopes up for that and sure as hell wont spend money till I know what I’m getting. Pre-purchasing games in this day and age is foolish with the amount of games that flop left and right after looking so good. So I’ll wait and see what we get. before throwing money at them.
The OP’s maturity level is so impressive.
/endthread
Just read your comment, think about it, and let it set in.
It’s actually funny seeing people reacting to this weapon with “I quit the game!” without even knowing what the hell the elite spec does and how it does. I’m actually very hyped because anet can pull out an amazing spec based on the most bland weapon. Of course I might be wrong, yeah, but why don’t we wait until the end of the week so we can ACTUALLY SEE what is coming for Elementalists?
If I remember correctly mesmer players were just like this with the incoming shield “Wth, sheild no mh pistol!?”, yet after the reveal apparently the Chronomancer is one of the most hyped elite specs.
Look at A-Nets track record with ele. Tempest trait line has to be OP to beat water/arcane and if not it’ll just be competing with fire, or be kinda fun but not as good like air. The utilites have to be better than cantrips which, lets be honest, wont happen. It has to bring defensive offense that would allow us to leave celestial a which it just cant do without auto attack chains and an offensive utility type weapon like sword.
Unless tempest reworks auto attacks for other weps and brings borderline OP utility traits its just going to be a competitor to fire in our one optional trait line selection.
Most players, let alone eles, have no faith in A-net they prove time and time again they just don’t get it. If you still have hope then good for you, but I’m sorry the glass is just empty, not half full.
soulstitch, these guys are elitist, theres nothing we can do for em
I mean I can call you a fanboy, obvious by your post history, but me being an elitist(by the way you should look up that word since you use it so much, it doesn’t mean what you think it means) doesn’t have anything to do with this.
The vast majority of the class and nearly ALL of the competitive players who know the ins and outs of this class and what it actually needs, agree that we need a melee weapon with true melee range and auto attack range. They agree that scepter is situational at best and needs some serious rework. They agree that OH dagger and focus are two extremely good offhands covering the majority of our OH needs, they agree we have a lot of team support and need a weapon that can bring self defense and utility in offense such as blinds, blocks, evades, teleports, disables; so we have ways to get away from cele amulet, sustain arc/water, and cantrips.
Warhorn can not bring us this, it will bring us either more AOE support or condi, none of which we need. And the only way tempest will work now is if it modifies all of our current weapons similar to reaper and shroud. Especially if it promotes attun camping, we have all of 2 auto attacks in this game that are actually decent out of 12, fire staff and air dagger. Sword was our chance to leave the cele/soldier history of our class behind and become a true damage dealer not having to use boons and tough/vit amulets as a crutch.
Honestly the ONLY way they can bring this back is to either say
A. “Just kidding”
B. “LOOK A SWORD BEHIND THE BACK”
C. Just be honest and admit to not understanding the ele class in the slightest and apologize to the community. Start communicating and posting on the forms asking for our opinion. Work with the top members of the ele community and work to fix our class with people who understand it.
Ele get their nerf in the expo, you’ll have to wait till then https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/623161106425606144/photo/1
Sword was the only chance I was going to get the expo as a PvP ele player. Sorry to those of you who did, I’ll see you guys around as that classic d/d cele arc/water/X ele were all still going to be.
For example:
Fire Warhorn Skill 4: Create a field of fire around the user that deals damage and periodically inflicts burning. Drains mana each second (upkeep).^ This would be the most basic example I can think of. So while in air attunement casting lightning whip, you would be dealing additional damage from your fire form.
Water Warhorn Skill 4: Create a field of water around you that heals you and nearby allies and periodically chills foes. Drains mana each second (upkeep)
Air Warhorn Skill 4: Create a static field around you that stuns foes and periodically inflicts vulnerability. Drains mana each second (upkeep)
Earth Warhorn Skill 4: Create swirling sands around you that grants you and allies additional armor/toughness and periodically applies blind to nearby foes. Drains mana each second (upkeep)
-
Fire 5: Create a storm of fire at target location that deals heavy damage and burns foes.
(Consumes a large amount of mana)Water 5: Create an ice storm at target location, chilling and bleeding foes.
Water 5 alternative: Create a storm of water that heals allies and chills foes.
(Consumes a large amount of mana)Air 5: Create a storm of lightning that stuns foes and inflicts vulnerability
(Consumes a large amount of mana)Earth 5: Create a sand storm that blinds foes
Earth 5 alternative: Create quicksand at target location, pulling foes and slowing them.
(Consumes a large amount of mana)
So basically #4 A-net will create auras that do exactly what the aura does, except every second, instead of when where attacked and:
5 is glyph of storms taking 4 skills instead of 1 utility…
who would give up focus/dagger for that?
Warhorn can’t bring us anything we dont already have.
Things we don’t have (or have reasonable access to):
Evading attacks
blocks/counter attacks
stealth
weapon teleports
effective daze
auto attack chains
burst that doesn’t require rotating through multiple atunements (thats not kittening burst)
Things swords provide:
Teleports
blocks
evades
burst
auto attack chains
Things warhorn would provide:
Boons
cone aoe/ area target aoe
team support
Things we have and have had forever:
Boons
cone aoe/ area target aoe
team support
Do you see why no one wants this?
I wouldn’t worry, they nerfed water/arcana line in the past and ele disappeared because of that..they then removed the nerfs , this is to show how broken the profession is without enough healing/boons and condi clear.
Oh I’m more worried they’ve just given up on trying to buff up our other utilities/lines (this goes for other classes with usless utilites and weap sets as well) and we’ll just be stuck in the same meta build as we always have, I basically played this same build in beta and still its the only viable build…
It seems with the release of specializations they’ve just given up on what exists and are just going to add things they think are viable to “add” diversity. Instead of improving what already exists. There are so many cool abilities in this game across all classes that are just weak as hell, yet they refuse to think about how to improve these and add diversity that way.
“Combo Finisher Whirl” never seen a war-horn do that
That’s not the warhorn skill. It’s the (supposed) Tempest class/specialization ability bonus. It allows you to use your atonement as a unique skill when you spend an extended time in an attunement. Has nothing to do with Warhorn.
It’s okay, I thought about it and spinning around with 180 range with a staff like a helicopter sounds awesome.
On topic: Why the hell would I want to be at 180 range with a scepter/staff/warhorn/focus? Hell I try to be out of that range with dagger, its abilities are (Nearly) all 300-600 anyway. The only reason you would want/be at that range is if your abilities are primarily that range aka sword.
So if were going to fight logic about an argument of speculation, why would they create a class specialization for an offhand support weapon that promotes staying in one attun (which you would only do if you were utilizing the auto attack)?
Although then again, a-net has a track record for not really understanding our class so its probably war-horn
“Combo Finisher Whirl” never seen a war-horn do that
I’d make a cruel joke about you being bad, or link you that google it animation but honestly this is Anets fault not yours. It’s just disabled for “off season” aka ranked is just unranked without the kittenty maps. They should have some type of tooltip in the interface that alerts you too this, as well as embed your position on the leaderboards so you know when the season is going and where you stand at the time but they kittening hate spvp players and are doing everything in their power to make it into pve and less competitive..
Long story short no season is active and even if it was the leader boards don’t actually work, play more = higher ranking for the most part. You’re not missing anything.
I mean if were just talking logic, we get warhorn, its going to be useless or just a preference choice at best to dagger and focus, they wont fix conjure/glph/arcane/signets/elites we will have no trait synergy with these utilities still (arcane giving condi, conjure fire shields, signets stuck in earth grand-master, glyph doing um actually idk what glyph even have that’s how bad they are) . We MIGHT finally gain a utility set that can compete with cantrips. We likely will still be forced into water/arcane/X where X can now be tempest tempest MIGHT allow us to leave arcane, or water if the utilities can compete with water. We will still be forced into celestial since our HP and Armor is kitten tier and we rely purely on boons for survival. Warhorn will not bring us any more survival than focus but SWORD could.
Instead of being optimistic anet fanboys we can speak up and let them know were kittened, it somehow worked when they announced EA and EA were going to be competing in arcane, lets keep the outrage up and we can pray we get sword. A-net has proven they don’t understand the ele class, but we as ele players do. They showed they can listen lets keep shouting so they don’t forget.
WE DON’T WANT AND ESPECIALLY DON’T NEED WARHORN. Let it be known.
Translated “Please don’t nerf ele, we only have one viable build (arc/water), one viable amulet(celest), one viable utility set (cantrip) and one not entirely useless elite (fsg). Please just make other classes more competitive, a nerf will destroy our class”
As an ele I semi agree, I’d like to see where we sit with an adjustment on burning (adjust the application of stacks on ele rather than tweaking its damage if your in the don’t nerf burning boat..)
I also think that might needs to be reworked similar to stability where it builds stacks and a spell consumes one stack. Then set the power to 300 and it benefits classes that have less access to might, and brings down the classes that can max stack it to 750 pwr aka ele. Obviously readjustments on might granting ability’s would need to be made. Aoe would also only consume 1 stack as would channeled multi hit spells.
The list of things that let me know I lost a match at the start:
No one goes home
2 go home
1(zerk usually) goes far and doesn’t bail to mid when he sees its a 1v2
I’m defending 1v2 at home and we lose both other points before I go down
Allies don’t know when to res /cleave /interupt /secure stomps and I watch a fight go from 4v4 2-3 enemy down and 1 ally down to 4v3 1-2 ally down
Feel free to add more
