What about an elite signet with 25% movement speed?

Wish list:

1. Either a new elite skill that doesn’t transform the skillbar (like an elite spirit weapon) or else allow us to place a utility skill into the elite spot

2. A 25% movement increase signet

3. Improved spirit weapon AI (or lacking that, reduce spirit weapon cooldowns)

Why is almost EVERY WAYPOINT Contested?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Orion Templar.4589

why not just use the same mechanics as what happens when you try to map to a waypoint that has just become contested from when you selected to moving there.

I’e ‘the waypoint your selected has become contested, you have been moved to the closest one’

So you can move to any waypoint you like, if the WP is contested you just get moved to a new one without charge.

This seems like the best way to handle it. Show the waypoints as open, and when you zone in if it remains open, that’s great. And if your local shard had that WP contested, then you get bumped to the closest uncontested one.

Loot icons cover map zoom control

Orion Templar.4589

With autoloot enabled, the loot you gain shows for a few seconds on the right side above the mini map. While the loot icons are still showing if you hit M to open the map, the loot icons cover the zoom control and make it inaccessible.

Ever since autoloot was enabled I think it worked that way, but a couple months ago it was fixed so that when you hit M, the loot icons didn’t cover the zoom control. This was a small but nice enhancement.

I noticed with the latest patch that it’s covering the zoom control once again. I’m guessing this was a regression? I just wanted to mention it in case we could get the fix back again so the icons didn’t cover the zoom control.

[Event] Frustrations with Knight fights.

Orion Templar.4589

While making the knights a bit easier helps address the symptom, I don’t think it addresses the root cause. Having players segregated into servers where populations in specific maps and at certain times will vary can lead to under-manned events that are designed to only be successful with a larger crowd.

I play on BP and even though I was present a few times when we took down the knights and Scarlet, I’ve witnessed many more attempts that failed. Part of it likely is lack of coordination or player skill, but the real reason those attempts failed was that there simply were not enough players present.

My point is that there actually are more players interested in fighting the knights, but we’re separated by artificial boundaries of our home servers. So many people feel the need to guest to another server to find a larger group – I don’t think that should need to happen. I know this has been brought up before, but I just wanted to voice it one more time – I wish we could go to a district system for maps rather than home servers (for open world PvE.) That way you’d have a good chance that district 1 for nearly any map would be fairly full at nearly any time of day, and if it wasn’t full, you’d know there weren’t other players behind the invisible boundary of another server.

I would prefer not to “punish” folks who are AFK, or implement an idle timer that logs you out if you don’t move after a couple minutes. Really it seems this whole thing could be resolved if the Group Effort rewards were truly based on group effort. If you participate in events, kill mobs, revive people, etc. you get the group effort reward. If you stand idle and do none of those things, then you shouldn’t get a group effort reward.

Agreed. I really wish getting Ascended stat gear was only slightly more difficult/expensive/time-consuming to obtain than Exotic stat gear was to obtain. The “grind” would only come into play if you wanted the flashy, rare, or prestigious looking skins for those items.

Thank you for the responses you’ve posted thus far – they have been educational and appreciated. If possible I wanted to ask about the quote above though. “Not possible” is strong language, I was curious if it truly was not possible, or if you meant “difficult” or “costly” to implement.

I ask because in GW1, I recall something that seems similar where if you tried to activate a miniature when too many were already activated you’d see a message that too many minis were active. I can only assume this was also a mitigation technique to help with performance.

Couldn’t something similar be implemented if too many summons from consumables were attempted to be activated in an area or map or instance?

There had to have been a better way to handle the performance issue. Adding a 30 minute timer to these items takes away a lot of the fun factor of using them. I know some folks will say this is a Smiter’s Boon type of thing, but I’ll give the team the benefit of the doubt and say this was a quick fix to handle a performance issue. Hopefully after more time is given to develop a better solution, this 30 minute timer will go away.

Sell Mistfire Wolf skill separately

Orion Templar.4589

Thanks, all for the comments. You’ve convinced me it was a poor suggestion, so consider it withdrawn.

Honestly it was just based on me being very nonplussed with my Norn Guardian elite skill options. I don’t like elites that convert my skill bar to other skills. So a Norn Guardian with transforms and tomes really only has Renewed Focus as an option for something that doesn’t change out the skill bar. And Renewed Focus just didn’t seem very “elite” to me.

Therefore I’d been looking at that grayed out Mistfire Wolf skill on my skills page thinking that might be a nice unlock, but wasn’t willing to fork out 2000 gems just for one skill.

But based on all your feedback above, it’s currently not that useful of a skill anyway, and even if it was, they aren’t going to sell it standalone anyway.

Good points and thoughtful feedback. I respectfully disagree though, simply from the perspective that to the publishers, this is a missed sale opportunity.

If they kept the Mistfire Wolf fully exclusive to DDE pre-orders only, what would that gain them? Possibly a small amount of community goodwill from a static group of players that bought the DDE.

Having it available to buy at a very high price bundled with other items gains them what? A small amount of account holders willing to spend the money to upgrade.

If they offered the Mistfire Wolf skill separately for a lower price what would that gain them? Potentially a much higher number of unit sales resulting in increased revenue and pleased players.

If I were them I’d go for the third scenario.

I’d like to suggest that the Mistfire Wolf skill be sold as a separate upgrade for existing accounts. If I’m not mistaken, the only way an existing account can unlock that skill is to upgrade to the Digital Deluxe edition for 2000 gems. If the Mistfire Wolf skill is the only item a person is interested in, 2000 gems is a bit expensive for a single skill.

For me personally, I’d really like to unlock or purchase this skill, but it’s not worth 2000 gems to me. Therefore it’s a sale opportunity that is being missed because it is being bundled with a larger suite that I’m not in the market for. But if the Mistfire Wolf skill was sold by itself for a lower price, I would purchase it.

I know comparing GW1 to GW2 is not always productive, but I must say I miss how the elite skill defined a build or even the playstyle while using that build. In GW2 the elite skill is usually trivial, and usually has little or no effect on the build. When you frequently see folks asking to put another utility skill in place of the elite skill, that should say something about the average quality of the elite skill pool.

Utility skill instead of an elite skill?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Orion Templar.4589

Yes, please. Especially on my Norn Guardian. I just can’t get excited about either the Guardian elites or the Norn elites. Nearly all of them swap out the skill bar with other skills. I’d maybe be okay with that if it was like an Engineer’s kit where only the weapon skills got swapped out. But with the Guardian Tomes and the Norn shapeshifts, you lose access to skills 6-9 also.

Anyway, yes to the OP – I’d like the freedom to use a utility skill in slot 0.

Long term changes to a zone like this are a good thing. Who knows, the living story might involve a “cleanup” effort in the future that will change it to something closer yet different than the original map, while not quite as corrupted as it is right now. That said, I do hope the map’s loading screen is reverted or changed. The current one is a bit bland…

Solo Instancing?

Orion Templar.4589

This is a good discussion. I agree with all those above who have laid out good arguments about the benefits of choice. There are people who prefer to play solo, and people who prefer to play in a group. I’d like to see all content be available to both types of players.

That being said, these instances that focus on the Player as a main character probably do make sense as solo. It helps you feel more part of the story. On the other side of the spectrum, it can be disheartening to work your way up to Arah story mode only to have all the cutscenes feature some other person you’ve never met before.

Solo-able content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Orion Templar.4589

Orion Templar.4589

I’d like to see it so that all content would be available for either kind of play. If folks want to group up to play, they should be free to do so. If folks want to solo, they should be free to do so. If the content at hand is specifically designed to require a party size beyond one person, then make something like “dungeon henchmen” available to hire to fill out a small party.

A full party of players will usually have an advantage in efficiency over a party of mixed players and henchmen, so folks who enjoy grouping would be unaffected by a change like this. Folks who sometimes just want to avoid the PUG scene or want to explore a dungeon once on their own without pressure from aggressive players could do so as well.

I’m a relatively new Engineer, having played most of my hours with Ranger and Guardian. But I’m coming up to speed on Engineer play and am enjoying it. I like the idea of turrets but agree with the ideas above that they need a bit of help to be truly effective. I believe that turrets should not be mobile. However as they are today, they are simply too fragile and the cool downs (especially on pick up) are just too long.

Some of the ideas posted above are very good. Even though I’d like to see them implemented, I’d be happy if turrets were just made a bit tougher (especially to AoE) and make the cool downs shorter.

Why the silence on zerker/conditions?

Do you even play full zerker?
“I hate something so much Anet should nerf it into the ground to the point in which it’s not even worth having, that’ll teach those zerkers”.

Where did that come from? That’s not what I meant at all.
I definitely did not opine to nerf zerker gear. My point was that zerker gear should be near the edge of the bell curve in the risk/reward spectrum. In other words, a smaller portion of the player base should select full zerker gear because they are skilled enough to compesate for the drawbacks (squishiness). What I’m seeing though is that a majority of players see it as the go to gear for anything PvE – it falls pretty much at the peak of the bell curve for usage. Of course this is based on observation only and on in game and forum chatter. I may be way off and it’s only a vocal minority who claim zerker or nothing. Not having access to true usage stats it is merely a guess.

Why the silence on zerker/conditions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Orion Templar.4589

Orion Templar.4589

Because zerker builds are high risk, high reward. That’s how it should be. They do not need any changes.

No doubt zerker is high reward, but is zerker truly high risk? I think it’s probably not high enough risk. Not enough glass in the glass cannon. If being full zerker made you extremely squishy to the point of being ineffective in most situations, people would be more judicious in its application.

Therefore you have to ask yourself: Is this a journey you want to take? Are you comfortable with expecting the unexpected, and ultimately working together in a positive and productive manner through thick and thin, to pioneer in a space that the team at ArenaNet feel is of huge importance? Many of you are not only comfortable with this paradigm but embrace it, and your contribution, as you know has already shaped Tyria immensely, for which we are extremely grateful and excited about.

I’m game to participate in the journey. What is the best way to get on board? I know I’ve participated in a few discussions on theses forums about a particular idea where a member of the development team participated in the discussion and we tossed some ideas back and forth and it was a very constructive discussion. That one was about the idea of a dynamic respawn algorithm to help avoid a commonly complained about issue of mobs respawning while you’re fighting a vet or champ when no other players have come into the immediate area.

While discussions like that are valuable and demonstrate how the dev team and the player community can have valuable discussion, I’ve also seen many other issues that apparently are ignored. I’m sure they aren’t being really ignored, but the silence gives that impression. An example of that might be the dozens and dozens of threads in the Ranger forum about the need for multiple improvements in the Pet mechanic. Maybe there have been constructive dev interactions on the forums about ways to improve Pets, but if there are I apologize I’ve overlooked them.

Anyway, count me in on the journey. I just want to make sure we’re participating in ways that you find valuable.

If you innocently start an event early because you are playing the game and you didn’t know about a train, that is perfectly fine. If folks harass you, that is their bad – ignore or block them. If you intentionally grief the train because you want to “show them how juvenile they are” then that’s your bad because you’re doing the same thing. The best way to deal with those being immature is to ignore them or take the high road. Don’t be immature back to them.

With some of the Scarlet events, especially when you’re fighting a champion, it’s sometimes impossible to know exactly where the foe is so you can setup a ground targeted skill. I have to watch my auto-attack damage numbers floating up while I strafe around to get a feel for where the foe is likely standing before I can setup the AoE skill.

Agreed that the cool downs on swap are too long right now, especially since we don’t have the ability to manually rez the pet. In a boss fight with lots of AoE, it is a very common situation for both pets to be down.

Orion Templar.4589

To keep the economy going there need to be soulbound items. If everything could be traded freely between everyone, nobody would be able to sell or anything. If this was GW1, things could remain tradable and unbound.

I think the OP meant that things currently soulbound today should be account bound instead. It’s not a desire to be able to trade things to other players, but rather to share among your characters.

I also don’t like the “soulbound on acquire” or “soulbound on use” mechanics. I much preferred the GW1 method (for weapons) where you could use something, see how you liked the looks or stats, but still trade it. Only if you intentionally customized it, then it was bound to you, but you also got a damage percent increase for customizing.

Random Black Screen, Very Frustrating! :(

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Orion Templar.4589

Orion Templar.4589

My symptoms were often a couple seconds of black screen followed by a video driver recovery and reduced FPS until the next map load. Less frequently the crash would be worse and the computer would power down. After turning it back on the Windows event viewer would tell be I had a STOP crash with an error code that most forums say is hardware-related.

I originally didn’t think it was heat related since my temps never seemed to get very high, but I wasn’t using an on-screen thermometer application, so when I’d periodically minimize GW2 to check the GPU temp, it had dropped a bit so I wasn’t getting an accurate reading of temp while in-game.

When running a video card diagnostic that did wireframe shading that pushed the GPU I noticed I could recreate the STOP crash when GPU temps got to about 75C. I know others regularly run their cards into the 80’s, but for some reason about 75C appears to be the most my GPU can handle.

As a workaround I’m now experimenting with using EVGA Precision X to set my power target to 50%. Running the video card diagnostic mentioned above my temps now stay in the 60’s and low 70’s and I no longer recreated the STOP crash.

Playing GW2 I have not noticed a reduction in FPS yet, so using the 50% power target doesn’t appear to have too bad a tradeoff. I’ll keep an eye on it for a while. If the black screens disappear, or if they keep happening, I’ll post another update here. I just wanted to provide an update on this issue since I know a lot of others had been posting about it.

Hard to believe it has been a year already. I’ve put in many hours and had tons of fun with GW2. The forums seem to be filled mostly with complaints, and some of those complaints are justified (such as bugs that existed on launch day that are still present.) But I think a lot of the negativity in the forums is basically human nature – we vocalize more when something goes wrong, and don’t often take the time to communicate when things are good. I’m guessing most of the folks who love this game are not posting on the forums and are spending their time in game.

I feel most of the brain power used is to calculate how many more champs can be killed before the timer runs out.

Oddly enough, faster in this case is less profitable.

You’re right, although I feel it should be otherwise. Such as the rewards from defeating Scarlet would go up based on how much time was left on the timer. That would encourage strategic playing to clear the event faster.
