I just play the game to have fun and enjoy the game itself. If other people buy in a day what takes me months of play to earn more slowly that is fine. What they are buying is not a “win” it is cosmetic.

Enemies respawn too fast in my personal opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Orion Templar.4589

Orion Templar.4589

Agreed. The game really needs to have some logic built in to determine how many players are in the area to determine the respawn rate. For example if there are multiple players in proximity, keeping the respawn rate fast so that your gameplay experience isn’t impacted (made too easy) by someone trailblazing ahead of you is a good thing. However if you or your group are fairly isolated and other players aren’t in the area, the respawn rate should be slower so that you can actually work toward a goal without mobs respawning while you’re still working on dispatching their colleagues.

4. WvW is EXPENSIVE. Please increase the money that drops in WvW. Or better yet, turn off the need for armor repair in WvW. Pvpers do not want to have to worry about money. If I run around all day doing nothing but WvW i am losing money to repairs, upgrades and schematics.

Removing the need for armor repair in WvWvW may help with the Alt+F4 problem. If players (especially world completion explorers who don’t really want to be there anyway) know they won’t be losing repair money on death, they probably will be more prone to participate and fight to the death and not log out if they get attacked while trying to snag a PoI or Vista.

So true about the pet. If you’ve got the F2 skill queued up, it will be nice to see them quickly zip up to the enemy – but then sad to see them sit still and go through the “wind up” animation to use their skill.

Mr.Anet .... Crossbows?

in Ranger

Posted by: Orion Templar.4589

Orion Templar.4589

+1 for the crossbow idea. Not the “big” crossbow you need to put on the floor to crank which is like a small ballista, but more the “pocket crossbow” that the Ranger pulls off his belt for a point-blank shot when the enemy closes in too close for a longbow to be effective.

Related to the Ranger theme discussion, I also like the survive in the wild warrior concept – one who uses patience and skill and speed much more than overpowering strength.

Slowing down while aggroed

Orion Templar.4589

Just speculating, but possibly the current combat movement speed is the baseline, and they realized that exploring at that speed was frustrating so they added a speed increase when out of combat, and that entering aggro brings it back to “normal”.

Not sure if that’s the case or not, but the thought came to mind. I agree with the posts above though. Sometimes you want to fight, and sometimes you want to run through. Being slowed down, especially by a Ranger pet is frustrating.

Agree with making WP fees to the major cities free. As stated above you can already get to the major cities free by using Heart of the Mists to get to Lion’s Arch then use the Asura Gate to get to your target city. It just adds frustrating screen load time for the player (especially in LA which has longer load times) and likely adds some server and bandwidth usage. Allowing players to port to the major cities via WP for free might also add some additional life and traffic to the other major cities.

The Golden 3

Orion Templar.4589

You’re correct of course, which is why I wanted it as an option, meaning folks that don’t like it wouldn’t need to implement it. I just added it since the devs apparently had something in mind already with the current option to ground target instantly at the cursor location, however if you’re using your mouse for camera control, the cursor location is usually not where you want to cast, and the time it takes to move there can be detrimental. For PvP you’d likely never use a insta-cast at target location, but for PvE I see it being useful.

You asked for three, but I added a 4th general one:

1. Pets: Faster (instant) cast for F2 abilities
2. Pets: Ability to hit moving targets
3. Pets: Smarter AI to get themselves out of AoE and make them more survivable in dungeons
4. Add a general option to the options page to insta-cast ground target skills at target foe location (rather than cursor location)

On my user page on the old guildwiki site I had a GW1 “wish list” that I kept updated over the years. Some items were never added to the game, and a few of them were. It was great to see an item on my list get fixed or added to the game and then I would strike it through and cross it off the list.

As a primarily solo-oriented player, one of my most wanted items in GW1 was to allow a full party of heroes. It took a long time, but that item did eventually make it into the game. Some people think heroes “ruined” the game, but personally I loved them and having a full party added months of fun game time for me.

Normally I’d say let’s have patience, gave the development team some time, let the community’s desires be known, and over time they will eventually address these issues. It happened in GW1, so why shouldn’t it happen with GW2? From the general feeling of the forums though it sounds like many people are of the opinion that corporate politics or other things at the company may mean things aren’t as positive over there now compared to how they were years ago. I cannot speculate on that, so I’ll continue to enjoy my time with GW2, and hold out hope that given enough time the community’s voice will be heard.

To that end, please allow us to access all content regardless of if we are solo or in a group. Give us either:
1. Dungeons that scale to party size
or
2. Henchmen to allow solo players or small parties to fill out to a full size party

Related to this I’d also like to the see the target nearest enemy work function actually target the nearest enemy regardless of whether they are in front of, beside, or behind me. I’ve bound a hotkey to this function (used “C” similar to GW1) but it only targets a foe when I’m facing their direction. I’d much prefer that it target the foe that is truly closest to me regardless of the direction I’m facing.

Orion Templar.4589

Agreed. Being able to relive story line events would be a lot of fun. In GW1 you could re-do a mission even if you had passed it before, so in GW2 reliving a story event would be similar. Also in GW1 if you came over with a character from another continent you’d see some verbiage like “you are about to relive events as they transpired prior to your arrival…” – so at least there’s precedence for this type of thing.

I don’t agree with that. In WvWvW your foes are other Players which definitely places it in the realm of PvP. It might be pseudo-PvP, but it is still fighting other Players.

Agreed 100% with the OP. Players who love PvE and don’t like PvP are annoyed and really don’t want to be in WvW. Players who love WvW probably don’t want the explorers/pedestrians in there anyway.

Alt + F4 = Automatic Victory?

Orion Templar.4589

I see what you mean, but don’t think your suggestion should be implemented. For players who are in WvWvW to play that game, something like what you suggest might make sense. I know a lot of folks really can’t stand any form of PvP and are only in WvWvW to get map completion. Some say WvWvW isn’t PvP, but I’d argue who are your enemies? They are other Players, thus it is PvP. Map completion as it currently stands forces you to PvP to complete a PvE goal. Players who are just trying to capture a POI and really don’t care to be fighting you anyway are better off logging out rather than getting defeated for a fight they don’t want in a game mode they would prefer to avoid.

Anyway back on topic, you wouldn’t want folks to remain in-game and die if they had a network disconnect. And if they made it so logging out kept you in-game but a disconnect didn’t, then people would try to exploit it by intentionally dropping the network connection.

Probably best to just leave things as-is. If they drop out of the game it might make you lose a kill, but it is still one less opponent facing you which is a good thing in WvWvW.

Thanks for the info about culling. I hadn’t realized that was going on server-side. I got bit by that just the other day in WvW. Me and a team mate were contemplating whether we should take on a supply depot populated only with NPC guards. All of a sudden a large group of enemy players “materialized” and were running our way. They were now too close to escape from. I’m pretty sure if we’d seen them at a fair distance away we could have made an escape.

Frostgorge Sound – Some beautiful scenery and fun fights
Blazeridge Steppes – Again beautiful scenery that transitions into the areas scarred by the dragon – fun to take down the Shatterer
Divinity’s Reach – my favorite city – what a sense of scale – I hope to see more events added here in the future to add player traffic

Those are my top three that probably are most well-represented in my GW2 wallpapers collection.

Assuming the WP contested mechanic is here to stay, I’d recommend that within a map, uncontested WPs are free, and contested WPs have a cost to use. The dynamics of the game, spread out player population, and rapidly respawning mobs in Orr mean that even in the most highly populated servers there will always be contested WPs and on many servers it will be most of the WPs.

To take it a step further, the interface really should have an option to map-travel instantly to any of the capital cities. People do this already anyway, but it is multi-step:
1. Travel to heart of the mists
2. Walk through the Asura gate to Lion’s Arch
3. Waypoint travel to the Asura gate hub
4. Walk through the Asura gate to your destination captital city

Those 4 steps are really just a waste of time and watching a few different map loading screens. If they added the ability to map-travel freely to the capitals, it would save some time and frustration and there’s a good chance it would add a little life back to the capitals since it would reduce the annoyance level to get there. Right now a lot of folks hub at Lion’s Arch simply because it is easiest/quickest to get there.

I don’t agree…sorry.

The game has very few reasons to group up as it is.

Not trying to be argumentative, but I’ve seen this type of reply often and honestly I’ve never quite understood it. People will group up because they want to, and other people will avoid grouping up because they don’t want to. The game mechanics shouldn’t need to artifically force players into one mode or the other.

People who have said henchmen are a detriment as compared to real players are correct. But some players will gladly accept the downsides of henchmen in order to have the freedom to play and experience content at their own pace on their own time.

Dungeons: Make them soloable.

in Suggestions

Orion Templar.4589

I agree with the OP on this one. I would really love to see henchmen available for dungeons. There are a number of reasons why a person might want to go through a dungeon solo. They’ve been mentioned here and on other threads, but my list includes:
- Not having long contiguous time slots for game time and needing to even temporarily step away from the computer (henchmen don’t complain when you’re AFK)
- Wanting to explore and enjoy dungeon content at your own pace (sometimes I just want to see what’s around a corner or over a bridge even if it is a dead end)
- Not feeling compelled to skim or skip cinematics when I know the other people have seen them before
- I’ve seen people respond that this is an MMO and henchmen would discourage people playing together – I disagree with this – I don’t enjoy group play all that much and avoid it when possible anyway – if you are a group player that is great and I don’t want to minimize your gaming experience, however honestly I (and others like me) weren’t going to PUG with you anyway – so having henchmen available changes nothing for you, but gains a lot for us
- All content should be accessible to people who enjoy solo, small group, or a full group – there are people who like to partner with one friend and don’t really want to add other people – let them fill out the party with henchmen – so far the only dungeon in GW2 I’ve played is Arah story mode, and that because I had to in order to finish the story line – I’d like to experience the content from other dungeons, but on my own time at my own pace
- Players who enjoy group play should not be impacted at all and can still form groups – undoubtedly they will still have a tactical advantage since unless players are very poor, a full group of players should be stronger than a solo player plus henchmen – I’d still deliberately choose the “penalty” of henchmen in order to have the benefits of playing at my own pace, be able to step away when needed, not feel compelled to rush, etc.
- Allow players easier access to less-populated dungeons where finding a full group would otherwise be time-consuming

One Time Events - Not International Friendly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Orion Templar.4589

Orion Templar.4589

Overall I’ve really enjoyed my time with GW2 thus far, but I also would agree that One Time Events in open world play are not a good idea. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Lost Shores event at starting time. I only had a little over two hours of game time, but I figured it would be enough. I was wrong. The overflow server I was on made it to the point where you’re herding the Ancient Karka after we’d dropped rocks on him and beat a few rounds of reinforcements. Then I had to leave to attend to real life.

So I spent a little over two hours and had little to show for it. My observations:
- No loot (Maybe one or two drops the whole time)
- Stacking sigils (like bloodlust) did not work
- Many enemies or AOE patches were invisible
- It really wasn’t a lot of fun – felt more like an endurance test
- It was too long – for most adults, even on a weekend, I’d estimate two hours should be about the max for a single event – some people likely can spend all day in game, but I’d guess that many (most) cannot

Agreed – I admit being a pure PvE player doesn’t give me the full picture. But for the slice of the game I like to play, Ranger has been fun. I totally know what you mean about the bird. Why Do People Dislike Their Rangers?

in Ranger

Posted by: Orion Templar.4589

Orion Templar.4589

Each profession has something to cater to various playstyles. For me, I enjoy PvE, and do not play PvP or WvW at all. Even though I enjoy the PvE aspect of GW2, I haven’t really gotten into dungeons yet. With that playstyle in view, I’ve really enjoyed playing the Ranger. It’s been great fun both ranged and melee, and when the ranger and pet work together with the pet holding a mob’s attention, this can be a strong profession. With my Ranger if I see a champ and vet together and I’m solo, I engage. With my other toons, I try to make sure I have someone else with me. That being said, I can see where the pet stopping to attack all the time would make PvP and WvW frustrating.

Ranger Pets are Awesome -but how about giving the player the choice for different play styles?

in Ranger

Orion Templar.4589

Your ideas are interesting. I say flexibility and giving the player options are always good things. Much could be fixed with the Ranger as is exists today just by allowing pets to hit moving targets and get themselves out of AoE. Beyond that though, I like the ideas you presented. In PvE my preference would be the build where the pet absorbs damage and keeps the enemy’s attention off me.

Ranger vs Engineer (PvE)

in Ranger

Orion Templar.4589

My opinion is admittedly Ranger-centric at the moment since I’ve played my Ranger to 80 and my Engineer is only just started at level 3. That being said, I’m also mostly a solo player and found the Ranger to be great fun in PvE. I like being able to call the pet out to grab aggro first while I follow up with ranged attacks then switch to melee (sword+torch is fun) to clean up.
