One idea would be to have the invasion champs not drop any loot immediately when they go down, but then if the event succeeds you get all the champ loot you would have earned. If the event fails, you don’t get any of that champ loot.
When you logon to the game the Living Story bar in the corner will likely say Scarlet is invading a certain area. If you’re after 10 minutes from event start time and you go to that map, you’ll likely be in a non-event overflow and the Living Story bar will tell you Scarlet is not invading and please wait to go to your home world.
I’d like to see the main Living Story bar verbiage changed to let you know if the 10 minute window is already past or not. It’s a small annoyance to see that message she is invading, but not know whether you’re in time to join in or not.
Also per some comments about overflow=fail above, I’d tend to disagree. I’ve done two events thus far, both on overflows, and both successful.
Thank you FoopOplo and Josh Davis for confirming. It is appreciated.
I’d recommend Ranger with sword/any as your melee set. The sword “root” issue really isn’t a problem – it’s a high-risk / high-reward weapon. Hornet/Monarch can be great as an evade or also for jumping back into a combo field.
He maybe did come back as a Mouth of Zhaitan.
This thread reminded me of my post on this thread a few months ago.

Agree OP. I think the CDs need to be reduced anyway. And having the summon stay out until killed is a good idea. If we attempted to summon a second one while the first one was still alive, the original would need to die.
Place your bets now for how long until this skin gets pulled out or reworked…
Just hand out the karma directly and spare our mice a few clicks.
Agreed – there does not appear to be a need for a karma inventory item any more. They should just grant the karma (like coinage) directly to the wallet.
There’s a note on the wiki that the bonus heal for the 6th rune is bugged and does not work. I wasn’t sure how recent that note was but wanted confirmation before I bought six of those runes. Can anyone confirm if that bonus heal is working or not?
Agreed OP. A lot of the direction your build goes comes from your equipped gear. I’d like to experiment with different builds sometimes, but I don’t want to get new (expensive) gear to do so. As others mentioned it distracts from the fun and forces you to keep extra gear in inventory. They are planning implement out of combat stat changes for legendaries in the future so clearly the technical ability will be there. Why not extend that functionality to all gear?
This topic seems to come up in the forums about weekly. It sounds like they should implement a safeguard for the laurel merchant so that if you attempt to purchase a unique item you already have equipped, it will warn you that the item you are about to purchase cannot be equipped because it is unique and you already have one equipped.
Seems like they should have made the personal version of the merchant express be visible to the summoning player only.
I know the forum search feature doesn’t often work well, so it is understandable when duplicate discussions like this get created. This is a very commonly suggested item though. I know I’ve seen it get raised quite a few times. I agree with the suggestion too.
Thanks Bartem, that is good to know. That does indeed help with accidental over-clicking the plus sign.
I still think the ability to purchase a temporary retraining buff from the trainer where you can both add and subtract traits for a short period of time would be highly valuable though.
I’m guessing these suggestions have been posted here before, but for some reason the forum search engine shows zero results no matter what search term I use. Anyway, here are a couple suggestions I wanted to propose for making trait retraining a bit easier to manage in PvE.
1. Trait Retraining
The current trait retraining system in PvE is okay, but has some room for improvement. In the current system you pay a small fee to have all your traits refunded and reset. Then you can add points back to the trait lines and select your major traits as needed. The downsides to this system are:
1. There’s no trait point subtract button so if you accidentally click the plus sign one time too often, you need to pay to refund/reset again.
2. Often a person didn’t necessarily want to reset everything, but just remove 5 or 10 points from one trait line and put them into a different line. With the current system, you need to take the time to rebuild all lines when that may have not been your intent.
Suggestion
My suggestion is that when you talk to a trainer, you pay the same small fee but rather than having all traits refunded/reset, the trainer places a temporary effect/buff on you that lasts for 10 minutes. While under the effects of this buff, your hero traits panel will have some new buttons: a “refund traits” button similar to how it looks in PvP, and also every trait line will have both a plus and minus sign to add/remove points incrementally.
The benefits to this include:
1. Players can experiment with a build idea for a few minutes and quickly see if they like the idea or not
2. Players won’t be penalized for accidentally clicking the plus sign too much since they can click the minus sign to go back down
3. Players can incrementally change a build without needing to always start from zero traits (full reset)
4. With the refund button available, players that do want to start with a full reset can do so
5. By having the build modification buttons available while under a time-limited effect/buff, it gives players greater flexibility to experiment while keeping some of the build committment ideals the game currently has by requiring talking to a trainer to reset traits.
2. Trait templates
As I’m sure many others have mentioned in this forum, I’d like to suggest the addition of trait (and skill) templates similar to what existed in GW1. The ability to save, load, and manage templates would be highly valuable to players, and it also would play well into the temporary retraining effect/buff mentioned in the first suggestion above.
If these two suggestions were implemented, the templates feature could become visible/active while under the effect of the time-limited retraining buff. While the effect was active, a player could manage templates and load one, and then use the plus/minus buttons mentioned above to tweak it or re-save it as desired.
Someone should teach you that it’s not. Pronounced. Clawr.
So true. Having gone through the personal story on a number of characters, I’ve grown used to (resigned to) Trahearne. Strangely though hearing him saw “Clawr Island” still distracts me.
You can’t go wrong with either one. Like others mentioned see which weapons you have the most fun with, but also see which profession mechanics you like more. For me, the Thief stealing mechanic was ignorable and not really fun or effective. On the other hand the Ranger pet mechanic is fun and effective (in open world PvE).
Think Smite should be a symbol?
In the pavilion you sometimes can overlook the loot sparklies on the ground since the area is so full of action and effects. Having an option to turn on auto-loot so any loot goes straight into inventory without needing to press a key would be wonderful. I think it has been presented in the Suggestions forum many times.
Sorry for overlooking the obvious, but what do you mean about pressing shift? I’m used to pressing F to search/loot but not sure about pressing shift.
Most idiot moment EVER… doing my first jumping puzzle (can’t remember which one it was), and read through the help guide somewhere, and it says “DO NOT FALL INTO THE HOLE JUST BEFORE THE CHEST”. It takes me about an hour to finally get up the chest… and I fall through the hole in front of it…. I cry a little every time I think about it.
I know which one you’re talking about – it is Antre of Adjournment in Malchor’s Leap. I haven’t fallen into that hole, but I can see where it would be easy to see the chest, run quickly to it, and fall into that hole.
My own embarrassing moment would have to be lying defeated at a group event for a few minutes waiting for someone to rez me. Finally I said “rez?” in chat and someone came over and rezzed me. They said they just assume everyone is a bot. I guess I should have said something sooner.
I don’t have a vote for most boring. I will say I have the most fun with my Ranger though. I love the weapons and variety of pets. Some people don’t like the sword #1 rooting, but I like it. It is a high-risk high-reward weapon and the animations are great.
I wish the scroll had been to bump a character up a few levels, such as 10 levels up from current level. The way it is now I cannot use it since all my alts are already at least level 20.
If it could be used at any level it would be a lot more usable and valuable.
I really like the pet mechanic and the fun of playing a Ranger. But in content like this they just die too quickly. Considering the pet is the Ranger’s mechanic and one of the Ranger’s weapons, it is debilitating when it dies this much. Imagine if the weapons or mechanics of other classes could die and be unavailable like a dead pet.
As mentioned above, pets need much more AoE resistance in PvE, or else some better AI to avoid it or other telegraphed attacks.
Where is the punishment for not having anything else but damage? Why do Zerk players wonder around without a support player besides them?
Good points. There needs to be a risk/reward spectrum. If you go extreme to one end of the spectrum (full offense, no defense) you’re taking a risk, and it might payoff, but you should just as often lose due to being squishy. And if you go to the other extreme end of the spectrum (no offense, full defense) you should have a tough time taking foes down, but you should be very survivable.
It seems like the “risk” to go full Zerk is not high enough. Going full-Zerk should add more glass to the glass cannon so that folks only choose it when they accept that risk, while the majority would scale back on the spectrum and get some defense in their specs.
I’d say there are definitely places for non-zerk gear. One example that comes to mind is a PUG I’d joined to run a dungeon. I had some non-zerk gear equipped just to give me a bit of extra toughness and vitality since I wanted to balance my DPS with the ability to stay alive. At one point in the dungeon there was some environmental effects and things going on and the other 4 players went down. I nearly did but managed to stay alive long enough to back up and work my way back to them slowly and eventually cleared the problem spot and revived them.
I know that’s just one example, but it helps underscore at least to me that players can define their own “optimal”.
I learned how to get on top of the Bank in Lion’s Arch on the final day of Dragon Bash. Best view of the town from up there!
Nice screen shot there. I was trying to get a good shot during Dragon Bash with the hologram in the sky and never could time it right to get a good one. Yours is exactly what I’d been trying to get.
Here is one from my collection where my Ranger and her pet are both squinting in the wind.
Most of my experience is open world PvE, but for that solo experience I’d recommend Ranger or Guardian.
Agreed something appears to be wrong with the pet leash and/or F1 command. I’ll be standing not far from a foe (not sure exactly how far) and press F1 and get a message that my pet is too far away. But then I take a couple steps and them I’m within axe range. This doesn’t happen every time and isn’t recreateable on demand, but when it does happen it is frustrating since I want my pet to run in ahead of me and start drawing aggro.
Agreed. The stats can stay how they are, such as warriors/guardians are the only ones to have the stats for heavy armor, but the looks/skins of all armors should be available to everyone. For example lorewise (my own invented back story) my guardian should be wearing something more like a medium armor coat. As long as it has the normal heavy armor stats, I don’t see why the skin of the medium armor couldn’t be allowed.
Agreed 100%. There are dozens of discussion threads on this topic and it seems to be one of the most asked for items out there. The OP has a very good write up on it here and captures the salient points beautifully. Adding a skin bank / wardrobe would be an incredibly good addition to GW2.
I envision a streamlining where you have a PVE locker that includes every skin ofeach type that you have ever equipped automatically. However you still need to use the transmutation crystals/stones to put them on your stated gear. This would allow them to continue to profit off transmutations (probably increased even) while not forcing the player to decide between having excess gear for appearance sake or choosing to lose potentially never to return skins they acquired from past living story events.
^ This and what others have said too. This is really needed. Some skins you get from the personal story cannot be found elsewhere. If you transmute over them, the only way to get them back currently is to level up an alt. GW2 really needs a skin locker or PVE wardrobe where you can get back anything you’ve equipped in the past. If a transmutation stone/crystal is needed to get something out of the wardrobe, so be it.
Random Black Screen, Very Frustrating! :(

I was really hoping the latest game updates from Cutthroat Politics would have included a fix for the black screen issue. Unfortunately the problem still appears to be there. When I have Reflections turned on it seems to happen more frequently (especially in Lion’s Arch). However even with Reflections off and the frame limiter set to 60 the black screen still occurs. The Windows event log reports that the video driver stopped responding and then recovered itself. After the driver recovers, the game runs choppy and at reduced FPS until the next map load.
I didn’t see a black screen all day yesterday so I thought it was working well. Then today I saw a black screen. Guess that workaround didn’t work after all.
Like you I’ve tried just about everything. I’m getting tired of trying so many things. I hope the GW2 team is able to fix this issue soon.
This was listed in another thread. I tried it and didn’t see a black screen today. I’ll keep testing to see if it is a good workaround.
In the game options:
1. Change “Refresh Rate” to “60 Hz.”
2. Change “Frame Limiter” to “60.”
3. Change “Reflections” to “None.”
4. Change “Render Sampling” to “Supersample” then back to “Native.”
5. Enable “Vertical Sync” at the bottom.
There are quite a few threads mentioning the black screen issue. Sometimes GW2 stops responding, sometimes the video driver recovers itself and the game continues but at lowered FPS until the next map load. It’s been a lot more common in the past game update or two so I don’t think all these people are suddenly having overheat problems. I think it is something that needs to be fixed in GW2. Personally my game was running great since launch, and only recently starting showing the black screen issue. My system temps are good, and I don’t see this problem in other games. When the black screen happens, I see an event in the Windows event viewer saying the video driver stopped and then recovered.
Bottom line is you’re not alone. This really appears to be a game bug, and a lot of people are impacted.
I think it has to do with how not all creatures have animations for being out of their leash zone. For example imagine you knocked a dolyak off a cliff and into the water. There’s no swimming animation prepared for the dolyak, so its easier coding to just not allow creatures to be knocked off the edge.

Earlier I thought GeForce driver 314 and having Reflections off was a workaround, but today I had the black screen and driver crash/recover even with that combination. It looks like I don’t have a solution after all. I went back to the latest 320 driver and turned Reflections back on. At least the game will be prettier between driver crashes.

I had been on GeForce driver 320 when I was seeing the periodic black screen and the Windows event viewer told me the video driver had stopped and had recovered while playing GW2. I tried reverting to driver 314 to see how well that would work. What I observed was that the black screen doesn’t appear to be happening, however in certain areas of the game world (such as near Junkers Waypoint in Black Citadel) the FPS would drop drastically. (Like going from 60 down to 9.) When I disabled Reflections, the FPS went back up to normal. My hypothesis is that with Reflections enabled, when things get too much for the driver to handle, 314 slows down, but 320 just crashes. I may be wrong in that hypothesis, but at least for now with driver 314 and Reflections disabled, I think I’m back in business.
In the early game you do get some transmutation stones, but I believe the only way to get transmutation crystals (required for level 80 gear) is from the Trading Post.
I like so many of them it is tough to pick a favorite. But one I do like a lot is “The Saga of the Norn”.

I take it back. Just had the random black screen again even after the Reflection setting was changed. Ug.

I had a similar issue. I changed my Reflections setting and that seems to have helped. I haven’t had the black screen since I changed that.
I like how some of the new skins go into the achievement pane “skin bank” to be pulled out whenever. That’s how all skins for weapons and armor should work. If it worked that way, I wouldn’t complain about all the back skins we’ve seen lately since they could go into the skin bank. But you’re right as it is now, we’ve had an over-abundance of back items.
It sounds like you want to add a bit of “reality” to the mix, correct? I see what you mean but it might be tough to implement in a game like this. If it applied to player races for example, a Norn should be able to run faster, hit harder, and generally be a better fighter than any Asura.
On another thread related to this topic I saw someone recommend changing the Reflections setting under the GW2 graphics option. I had previously had my Reflections set to “All”. I changed it to “Terrain & Sky” and I haven’t seen the black screen and video driver stop/recovery since then. I’ll keep an eye on it in the days to come, but this may have proven to be a workaround for now.
I was wrong about the event viewer. I must have been overlooking it earlier. After the last black screen I checked the event viewer immediately and saw this:
“Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.”
Thanks all. It sounds like I’m not alone with this issue. In my first post I mentioned that the GW2 app would be not responding, but after observing the problem for the past couple days I need to say that has been the more rare scenario. The more common scenario is where the black screen appears, and then about 7 seconds later the game comes back but running at reduced FPS and rather choppy. If I reload the map, the FPS is back to normal. It’s almost like the video driver stops and recovers itself, although I’m not seeing any indication of that in the Windows event logs. And also if the video driver was bad, I’m curious why this problem only started with the last game update or two.
Same problem here. Still trying to find a fix.
