I never saw this implemented in GW1, no matter how much sense it made. So… good luck with that.
From what I notice with my warr is you can block them with the shield but endure pain (immortality) and doge roll doesn’t work on them. Which are suppose to block all damage dealt. I usually use shield to kill all adds after grouping them up.
Still haven’t finished yet.
Endure Pain worked on my Warrior, and dodge roll ALWAYS works for me. If this isn’t a new bug, you’ve got some bad lag or something.
What’s underneath her dress? (Turns out it’s the same yellow bikini as the rest of the human females)
Then I guess I’m the first.
“It’s been a whole year, let’s see what I got! Oh… another Destroyer mini. Where’s my Gwen?”
>>wait for a full year for a chance at something I might not have
Sure there’s the anticipation that you might get something really good… then there’s the horrible disappointment from getting the same trash you got last year.
I think the one thing I agree with was that the older you got (the more years you’ve been playing Guild Wars), the better your potential present was. If each birthday in GW2 meant every 1-year character got Jenna, every 2-year character got… let’s say Marjory… I’d be perfectly okay with that.
And what do you do with so many Jennahs? I mean in GW1, I had I think 8 character slots, all filled and I only got the same mini on two different characters once. Well not very lucky but all the other ones were different. I wasn’t even very lucky when it came to the tier, in 6 years, with 8 characters I only got a gold one once. It was mini Rurik, I’m no fan of that guy, but I was still happy. Why? Because every mini was something special.
Now we know exactly, that everyone will have Jennah. You will have 2 days with nothing but Jennahs on the street and then they will vanish forever into the storage. Yupidoo…
And this will… somehow make the game worse or something? What to do with lots of Jennahs? She’ll go in my bank inventory because, like all minis that aren’t Liadri, she’ll be utterly worthless to me because I hate minis. The only reason I looked forward to GW1 birthday minis was because of Hall of Monuments progression.
Oh look, the gift is going to give me something that has no use to me and I see no reason to complain. I wonder if there’s something wrong with me?
Opens a present from someone: a book. Oh thank you.
![]()
Second present same person, oh, same book. Ok thanks.
3rd present same person. Same book. Ummmm
4th present, suspicious book like shape, ummmm. Thanks?
5th present, 6th present, 7th present, 8th present………
Well gosh. Thank you.If the title of the book is “Hygiene for Dummies”, they might want to tell you something. Just kidding! :P
At topic: half of the fun of getting a present is not knowing what it is. Now we know it’s Jennah (that annoying hack). And we’ll all get the same thing. Where is the fun in that?
And lordkrall, for the record, I never met a single GW1 player who disliked the present system we had. Not a single one. Not sure where you’ve got that from that people disliked the system.
Then I guess I’m the first.

Its not convenience, it would be if it were as good as a mystic/master slavage kit/best one you can normally buy, just like the tools.
Just because it’s not a smart investment doesn’t mean it isn’t convenient.
1) Having 2/3 of everything in the fight one-shot you does not make it challenging. Just frustrating.
2) Mechanics that intentionally blind the player are beyond unfair (in before morons saying to turn off post processing and missing the entire point).
3) Having a massive difficulty spike after everything else smoothly transitioning from one battle to another is way to jarring.
4) Not allowing the camera to be properly spaced when first entering just screams lazy/rushed design. It’s hell for Char/Norn players, who have to deal with the camera enough as it is.The entire encounter pretty much stands as a perfect example of artificial difficulty, and why it’s just dumb. And the only reward you get for beating it is a mini and maybe bragging rights to the few people that actually care.
Frustration and challenge are not mutually exclusive.
Shiro would be very cool
Beating up Logan would be great. I’d pay real money for repeat beat downs on him
I like the “mirror” idea from GW1, ie fighting yourselfI like the idea of bringing back the old LA arena (from the book) for a 5 v 5 arena battle
A party arena sounds great. Party vs. Destiny’s Edge would be awesome.
For christs sake, you people don’t need to have kittening everything handed to you! What’s wrong with having rewards locked behind extreme, high end content? It increases the value of said reward, and it makes those that actually manage to finish it feel more accomplished. You don’t kittening need the mini. You don’t NEED anything. God kittening forbid you miss out on one pet because you weren’t good enough to earn it. The content isn’t gated to you for any other reason besides the fact that you aren’t good enough to earn it. I know this may be foreign to some people just getting into games in the past few years, but it games used to be about the CHALLENGE. It’s not all supposed to just be busy work that you casually run through and get rewarded for. You get PLENTY of that from the main game and from all the Living Story updates up to this point? You can’t let us have this ONE thing? This one kittening mini that shows we completed something challenging and earned it? You’ve gotten everything else handed to you but this one godkitten ed thing can’t go to the higher tier of players? kitten you. You’ve been catered to enough. It’s our turn now.
I agree 100%!
The casual players have been being catered to all along, and even in this patch they got the entire “Queen’s Jubilee” achievement section where they can get rewarded just for doing things. Please be considerate of hardcore players and don’t complain to Anet about finally giving us content too. The “Light Up the Darkness” achievement took me 30 hours of pain and frustration to complete, but finally getting it gave me the most rewarding and euphoric feeling that I have ever experienced in GW2. I want more content like this, so please casual players, don’t take this away from me.
This is actually a good point, as in the past LS events, people complained that the “hard” achievements (like Obsidian Sanctum kites) were mixed in with the easy stuff, and for some reason that bothered them. Now we have separate categories for casual scavenger hunts / participation and for challenging arena achievements and the same complaints are being made.
I understand that Liadri is incredibly difficult, so let’s just assume this is part of a bonus tier that doesn’t require beating her. Maybe unlock them by doing various things in the world.
Anyway, the Watchknights have a lot of potential that I recognized immediately during the story instance. With Watchknights being able to take on the appearance of ANYONE, we could have epic battles with characters from lore and GW1, and even GW2 battles that might never otherwise be possible. Some examples:
Cobiah Marriner
Mhenlo & Cynn
Gwen & Keiran Thackeray
Destiny’s Edge, with or without Snaff
Forgal, Sieran, and Tybalt
Trahearne (I’m sure a lot of people would love to take the opportunity to beat him up)
Instead of filler content, do you want rushed content like Lost Shores again?
I actually wish we’d have a huge world event like Lost Shores again… but only after it got optimized so we aren’t destroyed by waves of invisible crabs.
Disgusting waste of resources that could go toward building up the defenses against the Elder Dragons. Shameful…
It’s just a leftover device from Dragon Bash.
They never said that they’d appeal to players who enjoy punishment. For that matter, they never said they’d appeal to every single player group out there (such a claim on their part would be both absurd and impossible to fulfill). Their philosophy was rooted along the lines of minimizing punishment and maximizing the normal player’s perception of fun. There’s plenty of development updates while GW2 was still being created that stated and indicated this. And in this case, while Liadri is getting praise, the glitches and bad designs concerning the Queen’s Gauntlet are not.
I never said that either. I said “wider variety” not “all.” But it seems I misunderstood the point you were trying to make and will admit that some of the punishment could be alleviated, but I don’t agree with removing all “punishment.” I don’t find requiring tickets to be a form of punishment. I think the regular costs of defeat in battle should apply to defeat in the arena. I might be inclined to believe waypoint cost should be 0 copper since it is technically still inside a town, and/or there should be a waypoint at each dome.
At any rate, I don’t think that one temporal feature is indicative of the developers turning away from the philosophy of the game as a whole. I think there’s a time and place for punishing mechanics, and an arena setting is one of those.
You’re ignoring the fact that a universal concept of fun DOES NOT EXIST. To other players, being punished for failure is only fair, and makes overcoming an especially difficult challenge all the more satisfying. That’s fun to them, not fun to you… I would hope you understand that appealing to a wider variety of tastes is better than isolating a single like-minded audience. Because if ANet did that, we’d either have only PvE or only PvP / WvW, not both.
I’m speaking about ArenaNet’s original design philosophy – you’re talking about the personal preferences of a very small portion of GW2 players.
And I’m saying that not ignoring that small portion of players is one of the aims of that philosophy.
We need an actual survey so people con stop making sweeping statements of how many people agree with them.
Failure has little meaning when you don’t lose something valuable.
In video games this always translates to time. In most cases you only lose time relative to potential gain. In other more extreme cases; invested and banked time is literally taken away from you.
This gauntlet does a little bit of both.
You have to run back when you die and spend some coin for repairs and tickets. This shouldn’t be a new concept to anyone. World of Warcraft mastered this quite well with raids. Only difference here is that you don’t need 9 other players to do the content.
This is true, but again, it’s against the original ArenaNet/Guild Wars 2 design philosophy. The game was literally built around the concept of fun, and it was stated numerous times during the game’s development that if something wasn’t fun or didn’t add to the fun, it was removed. This is why global cooldowns were eliminated, it’s why spawn camping was done away with, it’s why long-distance travel was reduced to teleports rather than actual time-wasting beasts/mounts (as seen in WOW and SWTOR). It’s how the original concept of dynamic combat came about, it’s the reason why armor damage doesn’t cost much when paid for on occasion, it’s why the auction house was so well done, it’s the reason why energy was removed from the game, it’s the reason why health and energy potions were similarly discarded, and it’s the drive behind a lot more of this game’s specific and unique features. Even more so, it’s why Guild Wars 2, like Guild Wars 1, is Free-To-Play – because requiring continuous payment for entertainment is not enjoyable; rather, it’s stressful.
Simply put, Punishment detracts from fun, and in a lot of instances, Punishment was removed to allow for more fun. In the Queen’s Gauntlet, however, it seems that ArenaNet dropped the ball on their own design philosophy – it seems they’ve forgotten what they originally stood for.
You’re ignoring the fact that a universal concept of fun DOES NOT EXIST. To other players, being punished for failure is only fair, and makes overcoming an especially difficult challenge all the more satisfying. Need a confirmation here, is the device soulbound on acquire or can we make it and then transfer to any other character?
The device is Account Bound.
I want content that’s fun to do, not hard. Hard does not equal fun to me.
There’s nothing wrong with that. My problem is with people that think, “I only want fun content, not hard content, so ALL content should be fun and not hard.” People who think that way want everything to cater to them and don’t care about others.
What exactly is wrong with having content for you and content not for you existing at the same time?
Hate to break it to you but those people are the majority of any game… even EVE. Arenanet is in the business to make money and they ONLY make money from the casual majority. If the casual majority isn’t being services they will leave. It has and is happening in WOW.
Well too bad for them. There’s something wrong with them if they’re so bothered by something optional and difficult EXISTING that they’re willing to stop playing the entire game.
Quack Shooter.
The next LS is a Duck Hunt-style SAB update!
Is this somehow related to this NPC: https://forum-de.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp ?
I don’t know about their voice. But I think she worked as announcer for fights and used holograms.
The… German PvP board NPC? Although from that description it sounds like you’re talking about my favorite NPC Elli.

Farming is for Harvest Moon.
Ooops, best be quiet else the cool Nintendo kids at ANet might make it a mini game.
/sigh
Implying this would be a bad thing. I wouldn’t mind having a small patch of farming land in my home instance.
Elementalist, about 30 tries (with some switching around to see how well other class alts I have fare)
Build: 30/0/30/10/0, D/D, Fiery Greatsword
Mostly Fire/Burning multipliers w/ Power and Conditions. Also Conjurer for FGS. I’ve always laughed at how people mock both FGS and condition Eles, and now I feel especially justified. Utilities were Signet of Air, Signet of Earth, and Arcane Shield.
Phase 1 is pretty easy, but I have to start off in Air Attunement because the whip autoattack and Ride the Lightning is especially useful when it comes to getting to and taking out orbs. My goal was to switch to Phase 2 ASAP. Once Phase 2 hit, I spent the first few seconds getting oriented and keeping my distance. Once I got locked into the pattern, my goal was to build up stacks of burning and some bleeds (triggering damage multipliers) while running away and waiting for the right opportunity to summon Fiery Greatsword. Once I had FGS in hand, all I had to do was keep using that locked autoattack and occasionally use Fiery Whirl to move to a safe spot.
I’m not expecting them to lower the challenge. I’m expecting them to fix the bugs and all the other issues surrounding the fight. I’m also expecting to at some point move away from the zerker meta and at least attempt to balance PvE. To offer up a real challenge instead of more gimmicks.

Give this a read and see how many of the tropes the Liadri fight checks. Then realize we’ve got a problem here in how the content is being designed.
Denial of information in the loosest sense because it requires some trial and error or a guide to realize what each part of the boss mechanics do.
THAT’S ALL.
whakittens like on the forums,
everybody that beat it: content is fine L2p a broken boss
everybody who hasn’t: poor design.
if you sooooo desperate for a challenge there are plenty of other cheap games, but A-net is a business company wanting to make money, they still have to compete with every other MMORPG, and making skill gated content is stupid for drawing customers in.
Do you want GW2 to never have any content that’s more difficult than reading a book?
Pay attention to her arm movements. It’ll tell you when she’s about to cast her surekill spell. Just don’t wait too long before dodging because it’s instant as soon as she finishes her animation. Also, it’s unblockable, so you have to use evasion/invulnerable skills.
I’m pretty sure she hits through dodge. I tried it a few times, but it always downed me regardless. Just use the floor portals, much easier and safer.
Ah, so it wasn’t just my timing then. I had no idea the black spots could protect you from her surekill. They do significant damage to me, so I never thought to try.
Still, her arm gestures are at least an indicator for when to go for your invulnerable skills or a stun if she doesn’t have her shield up.

For me it was the best update since they introduced fractals. Wallets! Decent champion loot! Promoting doing different dungeons! And on top of that challenging 1v1-content in the Queen’s Gauntlet and for those moments where I need something relaxing, a worthwile grinding opportunity in the pavilion. Even the open world thingies are thought out better than before – no competition who could be first at the spawn point (now: of the balloons).
The only point which I share is that they missed the opportunity to give us a cinematic during the balloon ride.
1V1? Against an NPC…?
Right.
The wallet is the only thing they got right. The ONLY thing.
You do realize you’re treating your personal opinion as if it’s universal fact, right? In what world is 1 vs. 1 against an NPC an inherently bad thing? But I suppose you can back your claims up by referring to the totally-not-exaggerated thousands of people who share your views (and completely disregard however many who don’t).

Instead, we got this mess.
Queen’s Pavilion is satire of everything that is wrong with really, really bad theme park MMO design, but it seems you guys are oblivious to the joke. It may be the worst part of the Jubilee, but the rest of it isn’t much better

THE most COGENT and APPLICABLE posting I have EVER seen for an MMO. in 20+ years. This game is going to die a horrible death because of the MANY "*currencies* and the fact that the DEVS keep CHANGING THE RULES.
Almost everyone in the game wants a Legendary – but many are now realizing that they will NEVER have a Legendary – either their guilds are too small or they have no help (!) or they just give up because the GRIND has beaten them down into a puddle of mush – only to find a first person shooter to take a vacation from this moronic grind.
I am horrible at math.
I am horrible at keeping TRACK of the myriad of currencies and what you need them for and what you have to keep and what you can safely sell.
Making the game more about rides on balloons that are just fake waypoints that go ONE WAY and all the other items already mentioned is pushing SO many people away from the game.
There are thousands of people in the last few DAYS who have said, just on my server alone, that they are hoping this doesn’t spin out of control as it has before with the “new” currencies and the “new” rules, but they were right – it is, it has, and we’re all looking for next MMO that won’t DO this to us.
Please tell me this is all overt sarcasm.
Believe me, there are no tears, but there are some other emotions. I think you probably know I’m right as well. Nice attempt at deflection though!
Because different tastes don’t exist.
Do you seriously believe that “majority” won? The vote was rigged from the start. 52/48 breakdown over 2 weeks, I’m guessing they will post the results and they will still be 52/48.
More people disagree with me than agree with me = rigged.
A drunken Zojja crashes the celebration and makes out with Logan.
I have nothing against Jenna, but if it happens, so be it.
ALL HAIL QUEEN DEMMI BEETLESTONE!
After trying some of the differences in your build, I’m not a fan of Thumper Turret, but it seems to work for you, I guess. I prefer Throw Mine.
It’s bloody hilarious tossing a mine right behind you, using Acid Bomb, then laughing as a pursuing enemy gets knocked back into your acid puddle.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been a loyal supporter of Elixir Gun since the beginning, and your build is pretty similar to mine, only with more Cleric.
I experimented more with a Condition / Healing blend, but my Settler equips gave me a lower Power stat that I’m disappointed in, plus an excessive amount of condition damage.
I’ve been mulling over what runes to use, and your 3/3 setup makes a lot of sense, so I think I’m going to go ahead and copy it.
I personally go with Reinforced Shield and Backpack Regenerator and Slick Shoes over Rocket Boots, but I’m intrigued by the added maneuverability and will definitely try it out next time I’m out in the field.
The people that park their cars illegally are far worse than the people that call them in. Jerks need to stop hogging up street space and blocking peoples’ driveways.
This is why there is no faith left in humanity.
You have no faith in humanity because people care about enforcing rules that make perfect sense? If anything, your post should give ME more reason to have less faith in humanity.
This has become the “norm” for companies these days. “Oh everyone does social media so let’s post all details there and forget our own WEBSITE that our customers mainly use”.
I think I’m going a bit too far but I think this info should also be INGAME.
I didn’t even consider that results could be posted ingame.
There’s still a hologram projector in Lion’s Arch where the fountain should be. Just put Elli there and have her announce poll progress.
Who invited the fun police? You’re like that neighbour that calls the cops because there’s an illegally parked car on the street.
It doesn’t affect you at all as you can choose who you run with, so actively looking to see others punished for playing differently to you…. Pretty much makes you the worst kind of person.
The people that park their cars illegally are far worse than the people that call them in. Jerks need to stop hogging up street space and blocking peoples’ driveways.
I did 16/16 in two days, playing maybe a couple of hours each day.
Anyone who says the Bazaar achi is not accessible should just give up gaming or just play some Facebook games.
Seriously.
And game a___oles like you are the reason most people never try mmos
Tosser!
Great job! Calling people names always strongly reinforces your point!
It depends. I don’t really like just giving away firsts, but I really don’t want to actively try hard to prevent others from getting first just because I can. 1st place once is for the achievement. 1st place any other time is just for bragging rights.
If you’ve gotten first and know you’re better than the competition, it’d be nice to bow out once in a while. But even if you don’t, try not being a jerk and placing fake power ups at every single choke point. The only exception I make is placing them at the wind crystal shortcut at the very end. Because anyone trying to use that shortcut deserves to be punished.
Because they can’t just add more icons with the actual update…
If anything, I’m more interested in Slippy.
I’m not going back and reading all 18 pages to find out, but I hope someone has mentioned that the lottery style RNG boxes are immensely popular in places like… for example…. oh, I don’t know… Korea. I’m not going to defend the practice, but it is one of those cultural things we don’t get. (Or you could argue “they don’t get.” Whichever.) I know NC’s overall business is something like 65% Korean, but I’m not so sure GW2 has the same split. Regardless, we know for a fact now that the gem store money goes to NCSoft, not ANet directly. So it’s not much a of a leap to believe that ANet isn’t entirely in charge of this one.
Granted, I’d still like a better system than the equivalent of buying scratch-offs. I just don’t think screaming at ANet is going to have much effect. Of course, screaming at NCSoft never has much effect, so what do you do?
Too bad even Korean games, as much as I hate the ones I played that use this model, are BETTER at it than GW2.
The games I played offered a box or a scratcher that gave you a random item out of a pool of a limited set. The gamble was that you had to keep playing if you didn’t get the item you wanted… but at least you still got items that could be traded or sold, and if your patience ran out, you could buy the item you DID want from another player (for a ridiculous inflated price, to be sure, but it was possible)!
The system in GW2 makes it possible to spend a large amount of money or gold or time towards your goal and get PRACTICALLY NOTHING. This is pretty much the worst possible way to implement RNG cash chests.
ANY ONE of the following would be a massive and welcome improvement:
1. Option to buy skins directly for more money.
2. Rich Coffers contain a guaranteed skin, but not necessarily the one you want.
3. Tickets sellable on TP.
4. Rich Coffers contain a guaranteed 1-5 Jorbreakers, and Jade skins each cost 100 Jorbreakers.
5. Rich Coffers have a chance at getting a free play, like BL chests having a chance at a free key.
Currently, the only way to get Jorbreakers is through Zhaitaffy trade.
But I’m relatively certain there are activities not implemented yet that award Jorbreakers. It would be completely inept for that not to happen.
More (like five times as many) spawning points, have them spawn more often. Isn’t that all we really need?
At least if we assume most of these teams are after their 20, once they get their fill, they’re gone and you don’t have to worry about them again.
Alternatively, I’d gladly do away with the “ticket” system and having a 100% chance of getting a random skin. Sure, you’d rage when you got a skin you didn’t want, but at least it’s SOMETHING.
I think the major problem is that the Rich Coffers just plain have no inherent value to them.
Black Lion Chests have a fair number of “jackpot” items, and at least are guaranteed to give you items you can’t normally get in-game (or are limited to a chance daily). What happens if you don’t get a ticket from your Rich Coffer? You get trash that takes maybe three minutes to acquire through normal play.
You know what would have made a world of difference? If Jade tickets could be also be traded for Jorbreakers, and every Rich Coffer had a guaranteed 1-5 Jorbreakers. At least then you could probably plan to set a limit for yourself, and if you struck out you’d at least have made SIGNIFICANT progress. I mean, face it – NO ONE is earning wings through Jorbreakers until taffy is down to 1-3c.
I’ve found that scaling is out of control, especially at Point Pride. A group of 5 can easily recapture it in a reasonable amount of time, but if you’ve got 10 or more, be prepared to wait several minutes before the area is clear enough to even make the bar progress. And you can forget about protecting Steampipe. The more defenders, the faster it falls.
I just want to get Settler armor. Almost no one else is interested and just wants to capture points long enough to get the Queen Karka to appear. Hard to coordinate enough players to do something only I would benefit from. The last time we had 4 camps up, I barely had enough time to find the merchant, look at the menu, and fail to buy anything because a Drake showed up and pull/dazed me. By the time I recovered, one of the camps had fallen.
The dragon holograms were developed by Elli.
Okay, that’s not a prediction so much as a hope for more Elli.
