There is no counter to stealth

in Profession Balance

Oxstar.7643

There are plenty of counters. Pushbacks, aoe cripples, flamethrowers, and of course, the good old brain. Just because they are invisible doesn’t mean you can’t estimate where they will go. For example, imagine a thief stealths, put down an aoe cripple skill, then move in a line from where he vanished to where you think he will move. The most direct route is straight ahead, and if they don’t take that path, they lose precious stealth time.

Also, if they stealth at a range, cover behind a tree or something. Break their los, dodge well, use your blind and other anti melee skills. Especially cover, if they stealth at a range and are melee, standing behind something ensures they will come from the left or right, and if at range, you’ve just messed up their stealth. They don’t control the fight just because you can’t see them – you are fully capable of taking control.

Also, why is g*mp censored? It’s not even a swear or curse by nature… devs be watching pulp fiction too often?

Should Turret Engineers be Tweaked? (sPvP)

in Engineer

Another problem is, unless you bunch the turrets to the same place, which is disaterous vs good aoe, nothing prevents a ranged foe from taking them out one by one through positioning himself just outside the range of your other turrets. You need to get over there to stop him, and he can hit and run you as he pleases. And if you get over there, you may come outside your turret range, making you a lot weaker.

Evasion. Speed. Two traits, infused precision and invigorating speed and a good crit ensures you always have swiftness and vigor in a fight. It’s good for dodging EVERYTHING… Including attacks that cause conditions.

That list doesn’t seem vary impressive when you consider the list of professions with more speed, and easier access to evasion.

TWO TRAITS. What other class can achieve this with two traits? To put you into perspective, I have a smoke screen , a bouncing blind shot, two aoe slow fields, a leap, good healing, two knockbacks, a ranged double interrupt, two blocks, a lot of speed and dodge, and, by my own experiences, enough condition removals to get by. Something that people constantly overlook is that engineers are very good at maintaining gaps and otherwise foiling melee, so they are A-okay there – as for ranged, no one stops you from ducking behind objects until your health is up again. But hey, these are my experiences. Idk what you’ve been through, but playing all modes except tpvp on and off since headstart, I’ve never felt conditions is the issue.

The KEY reason I think an engineer is better in tPvP and I play with a less serious group, I should warn. . . .

When I first approach, you have absolutely no idea what I might be running.
With an elementalist, you have a very good idea what to do when you see one based on the weapons you see.

That surprise factor can make a big difference.

THIS! I have been saying this for over a year.

The 'downed' state thing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oxstar.7643

Oxstar.7643

I think it means that when you get downed, you are too injured to stand. Get downed enough, and you die right away because of your injuries. You need time to regain control of yourself to get up, but to do this you need to apply bandages (good knows where we keep these) to stabalize your legs and stop the bleeding. Others can help you apply bandages to speed the process up, and you can do the same for them.

Underwater, we use our entire body to move, not just our legs. So you have enough to move, but you need air to get back into combat shape. Oxygen to prevent your systems from shutting down. Get downed too many times though and your wounds finally claims you. When enemies attack you, the wounds worsen, meaning your banadages help less. Logic dictates you’d insta die if you got hit too many times in downed state, even if you can somehow outheal the damage done to you. But that would ruin the functionality.

Sigils unfair to ele/engi

Considering that weapon sigils does nothing at all until you either break it out or wield it, I don’t see the problem, at least not on engie part. We can swap to our weapon whenever we want.

I say to that what I always said when stomping thieves eles, and guardians and necros right left and center. They will be amazed when they come rushing and see me cleaning up classes they say they are struggling with. They will be amazed when they are dying, and I’m there to save them. They will then, maybe then they will… regret not giving me more credit.

Yes, engineers are fantastic soloers. Doesn’t that make us strong? That other classes needs to zerg, while we do not? Take pride in your calling, bro, and remember, ignorance is a bliss until you realize what you could have had.

Idea: the swap weapon key equips toolkits

in Engineer

Posted by: Oxstar.7643

Oxstar.7643

I don’t really understand what the problem is. We can have access to four different weapons and can swap them almost instantly, unlike other classes who need to wait ten seconds in combat. I’d say the lack of two weapon slots is perfectly justified.

May I ask why you need to pay for traits now? That just seems unnesseccary. Unless you’re going for a gold sink? Also, I had some freedom to make my characters more interesting already at level 15 before – I no longer do. This seems like a rushed idea, and, quite frankly, what good did it do?

Here’s just one little problem.

If they do this they’ll have accepted 1v1 as a legitimate play style. Meaning you have to balance around it. For now they focus more on larger scale fighting where a bit of teamwork is more the focus.

Just saying, it’d make them have to balance around 1v1 as well as 5v5, full scale combat in WvW and PVE. Just… one more place to have balancing… I understand why they’re hesitant.

But why should they not strive to make classes as balanced as possible? Or implement parameters to assist with this? 1v1 is not a rare occurance after all.

Immortal hybrid Engi SoloQ vid+build

Oxstar.7643

See, see, I keep telling people, engineers have very much potential and usage, but it’s by no means an easy class to get good at, let alone master. Early in the learning curve, chances are good you’ll get wrecked simply because other classes does something that their class panders towards, while yours panders towards micromanagement and multitasking, which is probably the most difficult thing you could be good at.

Basically, warriors have their charges and high defense and strong bit hit attacks, rangers have pets and mobility and range dominance, guardians have superior heals and anti-range, and so forth. Engineers have their brains, but more tools to make use of it than the rest.

Hmmm… bomb kit is very good for aoe and melee situations, and with regenerative backpack and elixir infused bombs you can have some pretty nice heals, but that takes a lot of trait points. If you wanna survive, I’d say gear shield from tool kit is a must. As for damage, if you wanna do damage, yet have good aoe damage and survivability at the same time, you probably need to go the condition route.

No thanks. Especially the combat is very good imo. Now, I don’t play the classes that depends less on flexibility, ahem ,warrior, but at least as an engineer I constantly adapt in a fight, and I time my skills with my enemy – otherwise I’m just that less effective. Maybe it has something to do with rotating four different weapons, but I never feel like any fights that has any degree of challenge to it is one and the same. As for the teamwork, why would we want to change it, in fact, go to a place like say Arah path 4 and you’ll see how critical teamwork becomes – stacking up doesn’t work against everything. What we need is, imo, for ANet to revamp dungeons to actively counter stacking, and to add.. idk, I want something new, but not sure what…

You do realize that the existence of games more complex than GW2 does not logically follow that this game is not complex, right? All MMO games are complex. They are detailed, involved, large, and ever-changing. Those alone make them complex by definition.

Also, to anyone that has never played an MMO before, they are going to feel that there is a certain amount of complexity in general regardless.

Nah, this game ain’t complex, not really. They should try Aion.

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union” – Wait a flipping second. MORE PERFECT? That’s impossible! “Perfect” is as good as it can possibly get, and even THAT is impossible in itself.
Well, at leats you were confident, I’ll give you that, but you’re really in over your head.
What is my theory then? Americans aim too high.

Nah man, you just have to give 110% and it will work out.

Point being, you can’t reach “more perfect” , it’s a fallacy, “perfect” means that it couldn’t be better in any possible way. And a lot of things could be better for you people =P

Now I am disappointed. First of all I am not American.

Secondly my comment about 110% was a joke that supported what you said as it is impossible just the same to give 110% since 100% is all you have…I would’ve thought you would’ve caught that joke….oh well, I won’t ask where you’re from.

to be honest, i’d say engineer is a better fit for the soldier profession than guardian. as guardian is just a mage who realized that heavy armor is more protective than a dress.

I definitely don’t think she’s sexy, although I still love her to death (sometimes quite literally, too bad she don’t stay that way). I think she ‘fits’ her psychopathic role quite well, and she definitely sounds like she’s off her rocker when she talks. I think they did a nice job with portraying a ‘fun loving’ villain, because to I think to her, it is all ‘fun and games.’ Not all villains need to have ‘sex appeal’ to be good. Goodness knows some of the classics didn’t.

She reminds me of Joker. Plants bombs, scares other gangs into obedience, chaotic and unpredictable fighting style, laughs a lot, insane, and takes hostages, and finally, does it all for the “lulz”.

As you can see mmorpg talks about every class eventually having access to every weapon. However, third party reviewers are far from official sources, so I’d like a developer to say yay or nay about this.

I mean, if you revealed this for all to see then you might as well say it here as well. You know, just so we, your customers and sources of income, on which you are 100% dependent, know.

And while we’re at it, what kind of new class+weapon combos do you want to see? I imagine pistol guardian being pretty steampunk, fusing bullets with holy energy and so on and so forth.

1v1 should be 50% build, 50% skill (But some, such as I, consider proper building to be a form of skill :P). For example, I can build my engineer to hardcounter thieves unless they vastly outskill me, but then a guardian wrecks me unless I vastly outskill them. This type of balance should be maintained: you should have good matchups, bad matchups, and the ability to discern which is which.

Isn’t this rock paper scissor system something ANet said they want to avoid?

How do you balance in a not rock paper scissors context without everything being turned into a homogeneous clone of one another? I don’t think it can really be done without basically making all skills and classes function the same way and just giving them different skins.

The community wouldn’t mind, all they think about is skins.
All jokes asides, it’s okay that builds can counter builds, as long as every class has a counter build to every class. But the rock paper scissor system should not apply in base mechanics for a classm, I.E, one class shouldn’t own another per default.

I agree to that, but perhaps you could be specific and tell me which profession you think owns another by default because of their mechanic?

Warrior beats the crap out of engineers, since engineers got little to no stunbreakers and the stun from mace+shield is enormous.
Guardian can blast down clones from mesmers very fast with staff.
Guardians wins vs ranged thanks to all the anti-ranged.
And so on.

The game should be balanced around 5v5 teams, meaning some builds should smash others. I bet you think DotA should be balanced 1v1 aswell.

LoL is an example of a game were they try to make 100+ builds balanced somewhat on a 1v1 level, what you end up with is 100 different builds that are pretty much the kitten same / boring as hell.

Did you even read the OP…?

You CANT have both

Tons of other MMORPG’s did it, so your argument is invalid. And let me clarify that I mean balance that the majority is happy with, not PERFECT balance, as that is, indeed, impossible.
