If everybody looked backwards, there would be no going forwards.
Your concept of realistic design, isn’t in fact realistic. What’s realistic is taking everything into account.
Did Everquest try and be realistic? No, it dared to push the boundaries.
If you only consider the boundaries, you’re not considering the third element that can be implemented as well, and the third element is in fact not a delusional concept, it is a realistic one.
The idea, is that there is a solution to everything, this has always been scientific.
Don’t believe the skeptics, if we only viewed skepticism as reality, there would be no desire to push science any further.
The idea behind scientific pursuit, has always been one of solving things.
If you were to believe all these cynical “realists” and skeptics, what would happen is we’d be stuck in the past, with no point of even advancing science any further.
As we can see, this is not the case, because science has always evolved.
Take Microsoft and Google for example, Microsoft focuses on the “traditional” scientific view and an ultra-realistic one. As a result, they’ve never been able to break boundaries.
Google focuses on breaking boundaries with its ultra-metrics. And they’ve succeeded in creating a mythical search engine no one has been able to replicate. They’ve essentially solved the problem of the search engine.
As you can see, if history has taught us one thing, it’s that we don’t believe in skeptics.
You talk about not having to be realistic, yet your ideals only apply to a realistic perspective.
It’s a simple truth that you need to fix before you build. A game as a whole matters as that, as a whole. Fauly aspects leave a sour taste and keep dragging the whole down until it starts affecting negatively.
It’s not about when Engineers will be fixed. It’s about that the unneeded changes show a lack of clarity in class development, something that is just bad because it works against trust and only goes to show lazy devleopers.
For instance, the nerf to elixir gun was too huge. Now Engineers can’t compare to other classes in overall PvE contribution or PvP.
And the nerf to grenades? Need I repeat what everybody else have said? Damage is related to how easy it is to actually do the damage. Numbers on a training dummy is useless data.
The entire flaw is that no one on the player side had the chance to test it before it was released and that we really don’t know anything about the class developer side or their competence.
With the disgusting and over the top nerf to elixir gun I’m afraid bunker engineers have been severly touched and broken.
I have to be honest.
If they truly adjusted damage based on numbers made on a training dummy, then their testers are just plain stupid and should be scrubbing toilets.
And yes, input from the community is ABSOLUTELY NEEDED in order to ensure that changes are optimal.
All I can say is that you guys screwed up. I can’t recall a single Engineer who is happy with the recent class changes. Some of the fractal instances are broken. There’s numerous bugs as well.
Especially the classes. Whatever idea you had in mind for them does not seem to work. With all the things that seem to be wrong, from class balance to gem prices, I urge you to NOT add any more content for the time being. Instead, sit down, look over again what you’ve done, work out solutions, give us the time to testplay them. You need to fix what’s broken before you start building something new or the entire system will eventually be flawed in many places.
Also please hire a new team for class development. Things did not go well. I mean, explain to me why Engineer is described as a class with huge versatility at the cost of damage while Elementalist is described as the most versatile class while not having to pay in any negative sides to damage?
That just doesn’t make sense. When your classes no longer follow your own class descriptions it’s time to understand that you’ve goofed up. So STOP thinking about new content, sit down, fix stuff, THEN move forward. Please, for all our sakes.
You see ANet? You screwed up now. Better find another solution.
Seriously? from 400 to under 200? Are you insane? In no ways was healing with elixir gun too powerful in pvp, you could easily burst that down. And now you’ve gone and made the elixir gun next to worthless.
What the heck is WRONG with your class designers… Get a grip.
I think that was me, my team had 3 engineers, and I didn’t want to waste people’s time.
You had 3 engineers, yet you called the class worthless and didn’t even say “we got three already”?
You sir, are… Not so bright.
Maybe, but every game needs to have a balanced advantage. I brought this issue up a while back and I can tell you a LOT of people have had enough of this.
Wow this made me rofl
Engineesr are insanely useful and is anything but worthless in a fight, and I have a lot of rearend-kicking behind me in both PvE and PvP to prove it.
I’m sorry, but whoever called Engineer “Worthless” is a blockhead with no intelligence whatsoever. I don’t even know where to being.
Outstanding aoe healing.
Creates free retaliation combo fields.
Aoe slows and bleeds.
15-20 secs of immobilize.
Can aoe might a team.
Smoke screens and aoe confusion.
The list goes on. And anybody who says that dps is the most important factor in endgame is HOPELESSLY stuck in WoW mentality and should uninstall this game.
I don’t care if it takes 5 or 10 mins to down a boss so long as it dies.
And with no heals and just squishy players you will most likely die.
Public Testing Server. You have done a sorta halfbaked job, ANet. Broken instances, glitchy items and places, and this new snowball PvP is grossly unbalanced.
Face it. You need our help. Make a PTS server where you launch your patches before they are final and go live in the actual game so we can HELP you spot bugs and other problems and help you make it better. Your teams can NOT compare to what a crowd of hundreds of thousands can contribute together. This method has been proven to be very useful in numerous other MMORPG’s. History speaks in it’s favor.
Your intentions are good but you’re trying to do too much alone. Your judgement is never as sound or good from a business perspective as the paying majoritys. So stop trying to go where no one can go and let us give you a hand coz we want, just as much as you, for this game to be as awesome as it can possible be.
Remember, on the top of the chain that dictates your success are always US, your customers. We can fire all of you, from the CEO down to the music designers and voice actors, simply by spending our money elsewhere.
Thanks and happy holidays.
You know, this game don’t even have dps in the traditional sense. But I get ya.
I do miss the “phasing” trick in the Dredge fractals though…
So how do you beat this path? Me and my guildes couldn’t even get past the first part – We got overran by a million billion elites with an army of bone pets. And we had been doing fine up until that point.
DreamyAbbadon, I’m fine mate.
Solosi, if you truly think any trinity combat system is harder than GW2 then I can only assume you have not faced the hardest of PVE GW2 has to offer. Try path 1 in SE exp. Or path 3 in CoF. Or any path in Arah.
i’m honestly wondering why Engineer isn’t heavy armor. especially knowing how close you have to be with almost all weapon skills. plus it’s pretty annoying seeing NPCs in heavy armor using a pistol and shield.
Hmmm, let’ see… Gear shield, static shield, magnetic inversion, ram head, big ol bomb, overcharged shot, net turret, net shot, double super elixirs, elixir S, airblast, smoke vent, static shot, smoke screen bomb, blind combo field, tranqualizer dart, flash grenades, chill grenades, cripples… Nope, can’t think of any reason why they shouldn’t have heavy armor.
i’m not sure how you’re correlating skills to armor types. but just relax and think about it.
My point is that with all the heal and keepaway Engineers have they don’t need heavy armor.
How to counter glass cannons.
Dodge or block.
Once their burst is done, kill them.Tragically an upfront 1v1 is the last place glass cannons tend to be in S/TPvP…
When your in the middle of a fight with half or more of your CDs blown, that kitten your face off’ spike starts to look allot more intimidating…Especially when the spike is impossible to dodge or it is relentless enough that the only answer is some 45+s CD utility skill.
In ganking that happens all the time.
makes me laugh when i still see things like “nerf backstab” have you ever played a non glass cannon thief and backstabbed someone.. it does about 1700 lol, or 2.5k or so if ur lucky to crit, its only because some people go proper stupid with 100% glass cannon instagib builds that unbalance the skills for everyone else who is playing other builds those skills become uselessly bad, problem is rarely the individual skill but how traits or builds affect them. i feel that some of the previous changes to thiefs reflect that, like the mad 50% dmg reduction on throwing dagger thingy without any initiative change.
i actually play a condition dmg thief (well actually carrion set sorta mixed dmg)
theres some small changes id like to see such as the pistol auto atk being made abit faster, or the shortbow auto with a small bleed but maybe reduced physical dmg slightly. just nothing gamebreaking so i have to roll a new class in pvp lik what happened too ele last time.but anyways just my two cents.

GW2 is supposed to ensure that skill always beats gear.
They will have to be very careful with this ascended gear and especially the coming buff to legendary items.
Although I agree that there should be skill to detect thieves.
Rangers could have pet skills that alert a stealthed presence – They have really good senses of smell and hearing after all.
Engineers could have a gadget that let’s them see in infrared.
Etc. It has been proven to be a balanced thing in many previous MMORPGS.
I agree with the OP, remove this dumb mechanic from the game entierly.
What does it matter if you have a weapon drawn or not? You still weigh PRECIESLY as much as you did moments before – And why do you STILL move like a slug even when your weapon is sheated? Many times on my norn engy when I chase someone on PvP I think “What is he doing, jogging?”
Seriously. Why is it that you’re allowed to attack PLAYERS from positions where they can’t fight back but vs mobs they just go IMMUNE? Why should you have the least sympathy for a souless AI? If there are players that can actually reach such a spot then more power to them, that’s strategy and they worked for that position.
Maybe I’m beating a dead horse here, but seriously, enough already. Treat mobs with the same cruel unforgivness as players.
Velocity? I hope that doesn’t mean range because they certainly don’t need it. You mean speed? Maybe. That just means it will be easier for me to reflect a full Rapid Fire back in their faces.
Geee, another class with a free swiftness buff? I don’t see how we need it.
In lvling zones ppl are usually busy doing just that. In LA there is constant yell chat, same in the other major cities. The forums seems active to me. WvWvW have a lot of folks. Always 15/16 servers on SPvP.
To each his own. I’m not a goody two shoes or a samatarian more than pretty much anyone else but if you feel good about yourself, whatever.
Huh, I completed half my set with gold I made off farming in southsun and fract drops/rewards. The rest I brought off the karma vendors.
Haven’t you noticed how much easier karma is to obtain now than it was at the start? You can make 10k+ karma every 10th lvl now from start – That would have been IMPOSSIBLE post-launch – Unless you stay forever in one zone and farm but who is THAT boring?
If a newbie were to start today and take his due time exploring content he’d have 80-100k karma at endgame – Enough to buy two piece of exotic gear. And it’s not like there is that many points difference between green and orange anyways – Definetly not like in WoW.
Do you have a son or daughter? I promise you that in school they have already learned more swears, curses, and obscenities than you can think of off the top of your head.
That may be true – but they didn’t learn it from the Guild Wars 2 forums, that’s one of the points here.
Well they WILL regardless of what you do, I don’t know why you folks even bother.
But whatever makes you feel good I suppose. It’s not like you’re doing a wrong thing.
I have heard they will include weapons stats to kits.
I HOPE THAT’S IT!
The replies confuse me…
I never feel that blurred frenzy does a lot of damage when I PvP, and I agree that it shouldn’t have a mechanic that no other class with a channelled melle ability does.
I mean, turning around when it’s used, okay, but turning around in mid channelling? What? Next stage is probably gonna be that they can move while doing it too, like windspin.
There’s gotta be something for everyone in a good MMORPG, and some enjoy the hunt and success for gear sets. You also have a lot of guffaws along the way if you go with your guilds which I find helps a lot.
Most of us can figure out what a word was when it was written just by reading the context and the amount of filtered letters, and if we can do that anyways then there is no reason to try and protect us from bad words because we already know them. And use them. A lot.
Yes, it’s true that filtered words still may be obvious in context. If the use of a kittened word is identified as an insult or as off-topic, it will be moderated anyway.
But most importantly, the filtered words shouldn’t be shown on this forum.
Basically, users may feel even more insulted when they see which kind of insult has been used – “kitten” is much less aggressive, isn’t it?
Another thing is, imagine you’re constantly confronted with inappropriate language all over the forums – or you’re a new user who will be disturbed by the forums because of the use of such words. This topic has been discussed several times now, but always ends up under lots of other threads…
Greetings
If it’s been discussed multiple times then maybe you should take a hint…
Also we’re grown people, all of us.

Eleven Stealthing Sneakers
Huh… I always figured it was a reference to David Thorne’s “Exciting Investment Opportunity” and the related “request by Police.” Neither of which link I am putting here, because if you are of extremely sensitive temperament, you would be very displeased with me for sending you to that site.
Send it to my inbox.
These words “True and real is not the same. True you feel inside – Always follow what’s true” and “We experiment, dangerous, yes. We don’t, worse. We learn nothing” will ALWAYS place the Skritts at my number one.
After that comes Hyleks. Their “Good meeting” phrase just makes you feel appriciated ^^
Quaggans, eh, weird.
As for non-race related topics the BEST thing I have seen was when an Engineer used his rocket boots inside of a smoke field – I thought he had rocketed all the way to the moon.
Imo elixirs are a waste. My performance only improved once I replaced them with kits.
I’m one of those people who are godly sick of cathuggers on the internet – So instead of replacing swears with the word “kitten” can’t you just star or heart it out like a lot of forums, SPUF among others, do? Most of us can figure out what a word was when it was written just by reading the context and the amount of filtered letters, and if we can do that anyways then there is no reason to try and protect us from bad words because we already know them. And use them. A lot.

What jewlery are you running with this build?
Upps, how the heck could I forget that? :S
I’m running jewelry with all precision+condition damage stats through and through.

I just let elixir burst engys hit my magnetic shield and then I have a laugh.
SCRATCHO!
So we have transmutation stones. But what if… We had a stone that let’s you fuse two items and then handpick three stats from both of them? This would open the way to new builds, bring a lot of meaning to explorable gear, and depending on the feedback, they could serve as very rare explorable/fractal rewards and even as prizes in TPvP tournaments and rank rewards, bringing a new meaning to SPvP.
They could be forgable in the mystic forge – Serve as a reward for finishing your personal story – Be a reward for when you have enough map completion – etc.
There is so many ways to neatly tie this in with other parts of the game, giving more meaning to them, and also give a purpose to dligent PvP while bringing new exciting builds to the table. Honestly, there is no reason to NOT have this.
The only question that is up to debate, should these stones be bound or not?
I have sometimes failed a turret combo because it was busy shooting a fly. Shooting – a – dam – fly. Seriously, please fix turrets so that they attack the Engineer’s target and only select targets by themselves when the Engineer is not attacking one.
So if a thief should be the fastest at catching, how come they can’t use that same speed to run away? And have you ever chased a warrior leaping away with a sword and switching to a gs to rush and spin away just to switch back to sword and leaping away again? Now that is rediculous ontop of them using their signet for swiftness
Yes I have. The difference is that I can use a net turret to completely stop them while thieves can stealth so that it does nothing.
Stealth, if anything, is the hard-counter to NPCs like turrets. Everyone else’s ranged immobilize/cripple/CC skills work just fine against stealthed enemies. That is the weakness incurred for having autonomous firing NPCs instead of player-aimed skills.
lol @ the TF2 logic.
Maybe that would be true if the turrets were actually a threat.
Mh mhmf hm hmf mmf mh hmf – MMHMPHMHMPH
Translation – I found a new way to win! OUTSTANDING!

1st: I’d block your backstabs and the rest of your burst, outheal your ranged offense, then push you back if you got close. Totally unfair – On you.
2nd: Sorry, I beg to disagree. You need to understand that just because you disagree with me doesn’t mean you’re right or more intelligent.
3rd: If you enjoy your life so much, why the heck are you wasting time of it arguing over something that is not even real with a complete stranger?
Seriously, I had hoped you’d be mature enough to just agree to disagree – But if you are so insistent on spending your “awesome life” on THIS then by all means, you STILL got no other ammo than a terrible attitude.
On a similar note, I’d dig a gas mask helmet.
Mhmhuh.
I have no idea what this is but it sounds awesome.
They are men with massive muscles and women with massive boobs. I like.
Let me start by asking you a question. Should anyone be able to escape over and over when chased by eight players?
looks around No?
Good! Right then, this thread is about Infiltrators Arrow and Heartseeker. Now don’t worry, I’m not gonna suggest a nerf or even a buff. What I’m gonna suggest is that these be changed to target requirement skill. As now is a Thief can just leap away or teleport away making him really hard to catch – Added to all the stealths he got. You may say I’m a bad player but I really don’t have problems killing thieves, I’m Dr Oxy Brobotnik ingame, come see me on Ring of Fire sometime if you doubt it.
I do have problems catching thieves though. With sigil of shadows which is a permanent swiftness buff thief is when using leap or teleport WAY faster than any other class. I’d be fine with it if it weren’t for all the stealths. As I see it Thief should definetly be fast and definetly number one at chasing, but shouldn’t in return have the potential to become uncatchable. It just feels like they are too good at running away (inb4 obvious "try catching mesmers). The rest of us have to use skills with CD’s and dodge rolls to run away – Why should you have it so easy?
