Except they aren’t duel servers, they are hotjoin 5v5, and the duel people get offended that people… gasp… actually join to play 5v5.
Except, forget you. They are duel servers if there’s only a few people in the game. It’s not the community’s fault for not providing proper dueling options and arenas. So, you can either duel, argue, or gtfo out of them. Furthermore, there’s no kittening rules we have to obey by. If people want to join low pop servers and 5v5 l2duel or find a new game if you haven’t already. You’re all witnessing what happens when basic kittening options are not included.
I enjoy the duel servers. It works because people are pretty chill. Just, “I want to 1v1.” Ok, fight. You can observe and mess around until more people join then it goes back to normal. There should be more game modes like ffa with small events that occur. By events, I mean random changes to terrain like volcano erruptions, storms, earthquakes. Maybe have small buffs on the ground like in Dominion. Just some new stuff to play for some quick chaos, then back go back to the same old conquest.
Here’s what’s wrong with your Thief.
*it’s not fun to play against (the biggest issue because if it’s not fun for both players then it’s not worth two kittens.)
*has the best survivability, burst, and condition
*doesn’t need to sacrafice damage/precision for toughness/vitality to stay alive like other classes
*access to massive exploits via inf arrow
*no cooldowns
*stealth/healing/ini regen bunched together on multiple skills/utilities
*easy instagib combos commonly tied to macros
*deals damage in stealth
*thieves guild+stealth
*free op skills designed to specifically counter the class stolen from
Honey Badger, the new Ranger pet. Honey Badger digs a hole because Honey Badger doesn’t give a kitten and any player that falls into Honey Badgers hole stays there.
Signet Stone, Protect Me, Troll Unguent for teh lulz.
What’s that?
No, Spvp. You’re kind sit on the back of the bus.
It would be fun. Staff and d/d would be a major buff.
At the same time, said PvPer is used to being on god-tier, and being a level 1-10 nub after that is frustrating.
So a player with 100% world completion, multiple legendaries and massive WvW experience should be rewarded with increased power in SPvP too then right? I doubt you’d agree, nor would I. There’s no reason whatsoever that SPvP time should translate into PvE/WvW equivalents. It’s a seperate part of the game. It is, indeed, a mini-game within the overall game. You haven’t put in the time nor effort to achieve the same rewards as the PvE’er who has amassed his dungeon gear, his level, his gold, his legendaries (if he chose to go for them), etc. You don’t deserve them any more than he deserves to have everything unlocked and random QP totals, tickets for paids, nor anything involving tourney play.
Again, I play every part of the game, including SPvP and free tourney’s. By your logic I should have advantages over you as well as anyone else who neglects to play a part of the game.
Doesn’t, and shouldn’t, work that way.
He just said it was ‘frustrating’ and you go off on a long tangent about legendaries and bull kitten? kittening walk into Wv3 forums and tell everyone they are just playing a mini game…senseless twat. By your logic, I’m the king of video games and everyone can’t have an opinion without me proving how wrong they are. Nobody should have content that is perfectly acceptable for them to have taken away because they left there locker in the Mists or in wv3. It’s kittening stupid and it’s bugged me since they announced it.
So, basically Protect Me with a % damage increase would do the trick. I wish Protect Me was on a shorter cooldown…they make great cannon fodder.
I vote Sunspots, for Ranger President. If the autoattack would perform in a swooping motion and hit multiples faster than axe and be as smooth as ele d/d water one.
In regards to LoL, one of the things that kept me playing and spending money for years was the fact that there was something to look forward to. New champions are hyped up, testing publicly, and added. Anot, it’s hard to get psyched up for ’event’s, and aesthetic changes to the mist when I’m still contemplating whether or not there is any reason for me to play spvp. Forums are always filled with doom and gloom, but the only way I can see myself dedicating time/money to GW2 is if we get our heads out of the "balance barrel’’ and start adding new and useful content such as: new professions, drastic changes to rewards, and game modes. It’s a lot to ask from a company that doesn’t charge a monthly fee, but you now what? Pvp needs a lot to bring people back and keep them playing.
Where is the statement saying that pets aren’t supposed to be able to hit moving targets?
.
Not to mention weapons like thief SB benefit greatly from your stupid pet giving them twice as much damage against you on top of the plethora of %damage increases they have through traits and signets.
Just because Rangers would have total control over their kit doesn’t mean pets are magically not mandatory anymore. What’s the biggest problem with (strong) pets? Aoe nukes! How might we be able to keep our pets alive? Hrmm…
Stow Pets Allow Us to..
- Keep strong pets safe in our pocket
- Release the beast when we need em
- Not be slowed down by being in combat for an hour
Why the kitten are engineers allowed to swap between their kits at a blink of an eye and we have such long kitten cooldowns on all pet swapping and stowing? Because of the quickness trait yeah yeah. kitten that. Why should everything be on a cooldown because we have one option for 2 seconds of quickness. Make those who use traits tied to pet swapping have long cd. Not everyone!
If we had a kitten 1v1 system…I bet you could find someone willing to jump into an empty server and teach you the basics. Reading and copying builds is like 1% of the work. Watch as many streams as you want to, but that’s not going to make you good. It’s all about muscle memory and reflexes. You might want to build something really tanky and just practice dodging for a game or two. Maybe find a good combo online and try chaining everything together…don’t worry about the damage just yet. Just try and land everything.
I wish cooldowns reset, too. Nothing better than using a steroid with a long kitten cd only to be swapped mid fight.
Arena is dull and adds balancing issues, though they could do with other game types like capture the flag.
Could argue Conquest is boring and adds balancing issues. =p
Right? First thing nay-sayers complain about is qq and balance. Yet, conquest and pvp in general is undergoing some pretty big changes and has since beta. So, why not Zoidberg? No Zoidberg because then tpvp be unbalanced and everyone qq! We need to balance rabble rabble rabble.
welcome to the party

Yay! Do we also agree foraging via porcine should function like elementalist conjured weapons? By automatically adding the consumables to the hotbar as well as spawning one on the ground that only teammates can use?
It would be cool if you could run around with mortar for at least 30 seconds or so before it gets rooted.
i do agree that this would be a fun option to have, but we need a higher player population before we can implement new game types.
Probably have a higher population if pvp rewards weren’t a joke and there was more to do than stand on points and roam.
Yes. If they were smart our pets wouldn’t even have a basic attack, and would basically just be used for the F2 (which would possibly be ground targeted depending on the skill and would cast a lot faster and smoother.) At least in pvp our pets should be more of an ornament, with just the F2 attack. However, since our pets would be a lot weaker we could justify a damage buff to all ranger weapons and shorter cooldowns.
I’d rather see main hand dagger. I mean. kitten Necromancer has a groovey main hand dagger, and we have a very situational offhand dagger that few people use. Our main hand dagger should grant 1-0.5 seconds of stealth on last attack of the chain (like lotus blossom poison thieves get from their main hand dagger.)
Did you really think a bunch of newbs/noobs were going to take being told “L2P” by a dev without consequences?
Lol, and yet the pro tpvp are complaining about rez signets, down states, and aoe. Then, they turn around and tell everyone else “Stop qqing and l2p. Our complaints are justified because we are pro and your complaints about hotjoin and free tournaments are bad because they will mess up our meta game play. The same meta we are already complaining about.”
Someone mentioned in another thread that they misnamed the Ranger. It should have been named “druid/shaman”. You know…healer tanky support. Not what everyone wanted..the “Ranged God of War with his Trusted Ally”.
Try playing SB Thief with traps if that’s what you want. SB is so kittening powerful it’s not even funny.
If the popularity of “Hunters” from other mmos was low I doubt they would have even included the class in GW2. Seems more like a marketing gimmick than a profession that is actually necessary. Oh do you need ranged dps with aoe? Staff ele. Hmm how about awesome burst dps with solid ranged capabilities? Thief.
Yeah, I posted a thread a while back on how to change your Guardian into the best Ranger, but they deleted it because “Please refrain from making frivolous threads. Thank you.” when in reality I was being dead serious.
Basically, you put on runes of ogre for Rock Dog and use Spirit Hammer, so now you have two pets that activate when you need them and will cause a hell of a lot of chaos. I like to use Hammer and Staff for extra knockdown power and 12 stacks of might is a bit ridiculous.
Shameless bump. Also, I’d like to see plasma and other consumables added to the hotbar automatically instead of forcing the use key on us. Sometimes I want to use my feathers and plasma BEFORE finishing someone. As often, the finish “window” covers the “pickup window”. Also, this would completely fix the terrain problem because often times the pigs don’t even spawn the said consumables do to random bumps and rises in terrain.

Hyenas absolutely launch their KD as soon as it’s off CD, no doubts about that!! I’m pretty sure all the wolves do however, because whenever i swap my pets over my wolf will use his KD asap (unless the enemy isn’t using an ability at the time then he doesn’t)
I’ve noticed, without a doubt, a fair number of times that I pet swap in a canine (while I was downed) and the canine doesn’t go for a knockdown, mainly if he spawns already in or close to melee range of the target.
Yeah, that’s happened to me a lot. Only in downed state. Sometimes even with quickness on pet swap the wolf fear won’t even effect people in the aoe. Might be a rare bug or something. But, never when I’m ‘up’ do I have a problem with my pets knocking down melee classes.
(edited by Panther Chameleon.8465)
I take frost trap and combine it with ice sigils. Just one trap though. I usually run protect me and stone signet at the same time. I like using my pets as shields ^^ on a 48 second cd that’s not bad.
From my experiences, the Hyenas are the go to dogs for knockdowns. For instance, I can use Guard like it’s a knockdown ability, and I think the Hyenas have a higher chance of using their knockdowns because they have very poor auto attacks.
uncontrollable knockdowns, having an aoe fear that you can time is a dozen times better :P
(aka wolf)
The thing about guard though is interesting and it makes sense, it gets the pet to back off so he then uses his leap to get back in melee range. It was a good fight though, just calling what happened like I saw it though.
I dueled in this game ALLOT mind you (I’m rank 39) so I saw exactly how brutal thieves could be with shortbow many, many times.
Eh, wolf shmulf. I don’t even use pets for anything other than plasma, skulls, and feathers. Pure dps greatsword Ranger and I love it. I don’t care if it got nerfed. Evade + Troll Unguent and stability is wtf worthy. Top it off with save me and signet stone.
I was screaming at my computer “ACTIVATE THE SPIRITS!!” while you were just standing there ontop of them (poorly placed btw, out in the open, right next to each other, tsk tsk) you could’ve chilled and blinded him, he even missed with the first backstab and hit your spirit as you could see by the frost spirits health sky rocketing downward while nothing was around…
If you’re gonna use spirits you need to practice with them, it’s apparent you don’t know what you’re doing with them, and i’m really surprised you managed to win that fight lol he was wrecking you…
PS: What gear do you use? It’s clearly not my high toughness gear, that much damage from a thief is alien to me.
Yeah, I think the fact that I was down under 1k hp about 3 times made it a very dramatic fight. Gear? kitten if I know. This was a while ago, mind you. Also, you might want to have your eyes checked because he certainly didn’t miss that first backstab. The Frost spirit was already damaged from a fight earlier, and I wasn’t even looking at my screen when he jumped me. I’m surprised he couldn’t kill me…I was afk for like 5 seconds.
(edited by Panther Chameleon.8465)
I’m not sure what you mean by luck since the hyena lands knockdowns like nobody’s business and they automatically use knockdown when you swap in combat. How was he terrible w/bow? He landed shadowstep, and clusterbomb, but missed crippling shot. That’s not terrible. And when he thought about kiting me I knocked him down right quick. If anything I would of just waltzed right back into base and fixed my utilities instead of chasing him with sword like a kittening idiot.
They don’t knockdown right after being swapped out, it’s a chance at it, at least from what I’ve noticed.
Especially when you swap with an enemy right next to you.He never bothered to kite with shortbow, he used it for a few spammables (and basilisk venom!!!) when he couldn’t catch you, keeping a close distance instead of kiting, then swapped back as soon as the weapon swap CD was up. Good thieves use shortbow then spike when they can finish you with the backstab combo. That or if they just go balls to the wall and spike off the bat, they immediately kite out of it with shortbow and pew away instead of chasing a sword ranger with d/d out and blowing shadowstep for nothing but a spammable attack or 2….
Shortbow can evade like its nobodies business, that with a little sidestepping would mean you would never land a hit on him with your bow and he would be doing 750-2k to you a hit (depending if your pet is next to you).
Its a MEAN weapon in the right hands, one rangers have little answer for besides a lucky pet CC/imob/chill/cripple or using sword’s hornets sting and Lightning reflexes with your back to them to roll towards him.
From my experiences, the Hyenas are the go to dogs for knockdowns. For instance, I can use Guard like it’s a knockdown ability, and I think the Hyenas have a higher chance of using their knockdowns because they have very poor auto attacks. Ok, that makes more sense now that you explained it. I guess I don’t see too many people side strafing hot-joins. Yeah, the pet def screws us over when it comes to that nonsense.
this prove that dueling is more exiting than this bad conquest-bunker-roamer thing that we are playing for 3 months now..
It can be.
But bad conquest can be more exciting than deuling. If the ranger didn’t get a lucky pet knockdown during the end of the theif’s spike he would have been dead within the first 5s of the fight.
Melee thieves are typically easy 1v1s though, at least if you make it threw their spike, the ones you really have to worry about are thieves that are good with shortbow and shadowstep… the guy in the vid was terrible with them. He could have easily out ranged dmg’d the ranger and forced the ranger to use sword to kite into melee, which is when the thief pops back into d/d and eats his face off.
Actually, I think I got a total of 3 lucky knockdowns.
I didn’t downvote you, I actually liked the video, I thought it was a good fight to see. I’m just saying it wasn’t like some thieves out there which are one trick ponies. The question was asked, like what else could the thief have done. Me being a glass cannon build gave you an answer as to that question with a previous experience of mine with a thief.
Ah, yeah I was asking in general, not you specifically. And, he was using a typical backstab build, but missed a lot of heartseekers because of all the evades. I also had 30 in defense, so that’s why backstab didn’t instagib me. Bark Skin helps negate all the bonus damage from heartseeker and assassin signet. But, yeah. I was sorta asking what could he have done better in that fight to down me, not what can thieves do if that makes sense.
There are several things thieves can do, but from what I saw, that thief was ‘clean’.
Like what? It’s not like he was packing Thieves Guild or anything. He used Basilisks on me…twice! Backstabbed me twice, and landed enough heartseekers when I was low on hp to ruin just about anyone. He used Shadow Refuge, and Hide in Shadows(x2). He also had the upper hand given that my back was turned a lot,my jaguar was afk for the start of the fight, and I don’t use spirits a lot.
I’m also curious why downvote me?(not you in particular akisame) Was it the editing, slowed down gameplay, medium quality, or because it wasn’t another video complaining about obstructed and “ranger up”?
this prove that dueling is more exiting than this bad conquest-bunker-roamer thing that we are playing for 3 months now..
Aeri.5738
This makes me want to duell people to practice those situations.
Glad ANet finally gave us this possibility in the 13/3/7 patch! When did they said that?
While I don’t like bashing the tpvp meta and conquest, because it is pretty well designed and allows for easy to learn hard to master gameplay. However, all this talk about 1v1s being unfair and not interesting being regurgitated by a lot of people kinda makes me want to not live on this planet anymore. I mean, it’s obvious that this is a rare outcome because there are often outside influences. For example, it’s easy for a Thief to quickly burst someone in a team fight, stealth, and recharge safely. But, Rangers don’t have such easy access to stealth, so if they are focused by a few people they can be burst down kinda easy depending on the build. 1v1 is different, though. I mean look at it this way. That Thief as a Dolyak, and so was I. So, two players with even amount of experience were able to duke it out for a few minutes and put on a good show. Why not setup a 1v1 Arena with scoring based on a “down system”? The player who downs the other most out of 4 rounds..wins. Rounds are on a 2-3 minute timer, and the player that downs the other the most receives glory/rank/qp.. the loser receives squat. There’s no room for laid back bunker builds, because only balanced and burst specs should be able to down someone under 2-3 minutes…I think. Also, players can see each others stats before the first round.
This fight reminds me a documentary I saw, where the male lion with all the tools in the world to defeat his prey, got kitteny on this young exhausted, bleeding to death buffalo (of which died eventually), the lion proceeded to go for the neck only realising too late that the buffalo had enough strength left in himself to lunge and plunge his horns into the Lion skewering him and later leaving the lion to die of his wounds.
Not to say this isn’t an impressive video, only that this thief had all the tools in the world “sustainability, stealth, and far superior burst” to demolish you, yet you being on the defencive that whole fight, you took advantage at the opportunity and you won.
I’ve had similar fights to this, but I’ve lost more than I have won, I live and roam alone. The way that thief fought is frustrating beyond all hell, and to me you won with a slither of health.
Thank you for such a constructive response and that’s a remarkably good comparison. I don’t normally use spirits, so my usual signet of beastmaster and protect me would have affected the way I played. How could the Thief have done better in that situation? I’m just curious, so I know what to look for. I believe he backstabbed me twice in the beginning and I know that’s enough to drop most classes with little toughness.
My old Asura Ranger on Anvil Rock and my new Ranger, Big Bear. Looks like we were both Dolyaks at the time, so skill level should be fairly balanced. I’m not saying my Ranger is going to beat every Thief, rather I’m just anxious to share this 1v1 with somebody because of how intense it was. If you like it I might do more videos in better quality.
Here’s me on Anvil Rock hotjoin. I’ve been seeing these builds more recently and they are always getting shutdown if they are cc’d. This guy was good because I’ve seen him kick kitten with it before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAYNxi7MuRc&feature=plcp Anyways, I don’t think caltrops is a big deal if you know the mechanics behind it, and happen to have good condition removal. I mean let’s face it. He’s not built for backstab if he’s just throwing conditions on you. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, so get some aoe and condition removal no matter what profession you are.
(edited by Panther Chameleon.8465)
Gives you 1 second to poison them or knock back. I’ve been spoiled by troll unguent, so naturally I went with healing signet on my warrior.
(edited by Panther Chameleon.8465)
I unfortunately have to be the bearer of bad news. Off hand sword is useless.
Fortunately, you’re incorrect. But, I’m glad people think offhand sword is up. Makes it more fun to use it and absolutely wreck anyone that tries to bullrush/backstab. I switch between 2blades/LB and typical hundoblades build often. I’m equally successful with both. My play style changes dramatically, though.
The offhand is great if you like stacking bleeds really fast. I like the mechanics of 2blades and I don’t mind using longbow in spvp. The 5 second immobilize plus a 3 second fear is just too much fun, and makes it easy to aoe bleed people. I’m always bouncing between gs and 2blades.
Wut? Burning does a maximum of about 700 dps if you gear for full condition damage (which few warriors would). Combustive shot puts one 2s burn on every 2 seconds. At max adrenaline it’ll do 8s of burning. I dunno how you are getting 6k pulses from that. Each pulse does about 1500 damage over 2 seconds even with full condition gear.
Sorry, yeah total damage can get up to 7,900 I think. As it pulses. I’ve been playing condition damage with two 1handers with longbow. It’s a blast if you like stacking conditions. Kinda refreshing after kitten blading.
Warriors can cover the cap point with Combustion Shot doing burning damage I’ve seen up to 6,000 pulses for 4 seconds and gives the entire team a massive Fire Combo Field. A warrior can apply this to any point every 8 seconds from a distance via longbow. How is that not broken?
Which weapon applies Uncatchable caltrops and when does it apply evade immunity?
Come on now, at least compare apples to apples. You’re comparing a dodge proc with no cooldown to a weapon skill with a cooldown.
They need to be directly on the point to use the utility and the dodge. A warrior doesn’t even need be in the point and can cover more ground than caltrop. With beserker utility and shorter cooldowns on burst skills/less adrenaline cost you can out damage caltrops without doing half of the work. You can almost mindlessly spam it like cluster bomb. Would it be easier to stop a caltrop thief if they weren’t perma stealth? Well, yes I believe so since they have no direct access to stability besides dagger storm. But, if you get caught in caltrops and dagger storm you’re already in loads of trouble.
Allow me to reinforce what I mentioned earlier in my previous post. Now, go look at the Mesmer forums.
On top of the constant updates to their (TWI RO2) early release was a plethora of performance bugs that were never fixed (similar to loading screen bug) and new bugs came with every update.
Raptors. 3 raptors with ranged f2 skills, stealth, and gains might with first attack skill. Skelks, Etins, anything. I don’t care as long as it’s not a drake, cat, or dog, bird, moa.
There is no counter or skill involved with this, “skill”.
You mean like staff guardian 5? And hammer 5? Trap a Thief inside this and watch them bounce around. Caltrops isn’t a ground targetable skill. They have to be in the cap. Catch a thief and smash it.
That’d work except dodging rolls right through those abilities without issues. You know dodge right? It’s that thing they’re doing to drop caltrops in the first place. Such a well thought out counter though, perhaps you should skulk away in silence after that idiocy.
Well, if you can’t trap someone with two walls you shouldn’t be playing. Bottom line, they need to be at your feet to dodge and land caltrops. If you can’t stop one player from running through you, how can you stop 5 people running through you figuratively and literally? Perhaps you should stop being a squid. I stop that caltrop kitten all day when I play Guardian. You can, too. Plus, a concecration sanctuary directly kittens caltrop thieves in the kitten hard. And “Caltrops” have a cast time. There’s plenty of opportunity to spot it and knock the Thief about 300 away from the cap.
Except caltrops can be dropped from stealth. I played about 2 days worth of my thief as a death blossom bleed spec, with loltrops. I was destroying groups of enemies. Had whispers saying wow your a good thief (lol in itself as I don’t play a thief that often). Before I swapped to sword and dagger which is just more fun for me. Loltrops and death blossom spec is a great spec and it can wreck in the write hands it just didn’t feel right to me. I do agree that people keep complaining about different parts of the thief and I don’t want to see this profession destroyed, but the utility caltrops are pretty crazy in a pvp mode that says You have to stand here oh right there? That big glowing space that I can cover in a utility that I can stack 25 bleeds on someone in no time (with LDB added of course) It lasts a little to long in my opinion considering cleansing it and then being stuck in it (by immobilize, or being forced to go back in like Capping a point) stacks bleeds immediately back up to at least 7. Not to mention the thief is spamming AOE bleeds through D/D that apply 3 stacks on top of it that also evade the thief.
Thief doesn’t have many other cover conditions for the bleeds which I feel is the only thing keeping the loltrop build on earth right now.
Again this is one of those things, that if Conquest wasn’t the only style of play his wouldn’t even be an issue.
Except, now it’s more of a stealth issue. If you can’t deal with stealth L2P, that’s what they told me. I think it’s a powerful build, no doubt. I’ve started plenty of threads regarding stealth, and how I kittening hate it. However, that doesn’t mean the utility skill or the dodge mechanic are broken in any way shape or form. The Thief is always going to be powerful whether it’s damage or conditions. You’re just witnessing what happens when they nerf one thing. A new monster is born. Just because you’re in stealth doesn’t mean you can’t be damaged. I guess people need to learn to trap that build with 1h sword warrior with bolas and all sorts of nasty immobilizes, and lots of condition removal, huh? It’s what I recently started doing and it can keep up just fine with bleed thieves.
I did misunderstand regarding the downed-state it seems, my apologies for being presumptuous there. But did you really need to attack me :c
I think your scoring system will work just fine. Though it will surely be a much more interesting fight if equal tools in the form of skills are given to the players. That way, player skill will more dictate the outcome.
No. Allow me to thank you. I like sharing ideas with people. I think scoring based on downs could work, but it would have to be fast past to keep the viewer interested. Like as soon as you are downed both players reset at the start c/d refreshed. Both players’ builds will have now met for the first time, and there’s 9 more rounds to go. Allowing players to switch traits before the match and see each others’ “last used traits” to have an even better idea of what their opponent will do. When you defeat someone because you accurately predicted what they were planning you’ve earned +50 Skill Points in my book. It would also work both ways. If you’re someone who likes multiple builds on a profession you could throw your opponent off. This would be fast past stuff here, guys. Timed rounds and walled off sections of each map or turned into a dead or alive style arcade where you can push your opponent off points and move the fight to new smaller areas. Thus, truly giving the community “1v1 Arena”.
