blah blah blah
So we should limit player options to two specific professions? I’m guessing you’re Jumper X from Anvil Rock who regularly plays Thief, yes? Regardless, sure the Thief dmg is high and I’m okay with some of it…But the kittening stealth just takes all that is good in spvp mixes it with kaka (stealth) distributes it to the Mesmer and Thief. Now, we have two burst assassins with the strongest survivability (invulnerability/stealth) prancing around melee focused maps. Then, they go on the forums and tell other to L2P when the odds are indefinitely in their favor.
Tldr; Buying a new game? Make sure there isn’t stealth. No dev will ever get it right. Unless, you need a crutch…Mesmer/Thief strategy might be your thing.
4: An skilled warrior is now a winning warrior against thief. If thief doesn’t attack the warrior by surprise.
I think that’s how it should be, bud. Using your skills to actually surprise somebody rather than recharging for another ridiculous burst with Cnd/Steal/Backstab. Other professions need to chain all of their skills together plus make use of their utility (if it’s any good) to catch a Thief. Even then, the Thief has many options to stealth and break any stun despite the lack of stability. Thieves don’t need to utilize survivability tree because it’s a standard option built into the class. Plenty of evasive skills and teleports to even glitch through walls. Who thought, the two broken burst damage classes Thief and Mesmers would also have strong teleport abilities and stealth. All while Anet didn’t provide a counter play mechanic to invisibility…completely absurd. So, now we have two stealth burst classes in every match. Every map is close quarter combat, too. That really throws our a number of squishy ranged professions/weapons/builds. If Thieves’ power and utility was similar to the inadequacy of the Ranger the forums would be flooded for weeks.
This is not a L2P issue. This is from a different match, but it pretty much sums it up… Everyone keeps saying L2P, frankly, I only have problems with Thieves and Mesmers. I can spec Glass cannon if I want, matter of fact after making this post I said screw it, I die in 3 hits, I might as well do some damage. As of right now I am running a 20 20 0 10 20 build doing 1k – 5k dmg depending on the skill used. But that is only versus other people with glass cannon. If u cant out bunker them, then try to burst them before they burst you I guess.
This is exactly what I’ve been doing with every class now. It’s the only option. Either going full glass spec or full defense and healing…there is no in between. Hell, with my Guardian I have 14k/hp and 3400 power with the staff/hammer and 12 stacks of might. I need to spam every shield to stop one thief burst on me or a teammate. Sometimes it feels cheap that I’m knocking a single target around five to eight times, but then I remember I have to. I wish I could sacrifice some power for healing or defense;however, the Mesmer and Thief burst is just too high for me to even think about it. Might as well die in 3 hits and do a bit of damage than survive for 4 seconds and do nothing to your opponent. On the other hand, I’ve noticed a lot of players walking right through all my defenses (ele, too) without stability. I think Anet put survivability type classes that already had weak power (Ranger) in an awkward spot. They can’t have a great burst damage to compete and their defense tree/utility is often weak, too. These classes end up right in the middle with low armor and hp to top it off. Not a great way to balance a game when the hp and armor difference is so dramatic in a melee/dodge based combat system.
(edited by Panther Chameleon.8465)
Being able to dodge roll and completely mitigate your only source of damage is also unacceptable.
You could have dodge rolled and mitigated 100% of pistol whip as well.
100 blades is fine. Unlike the thief or mesmer build burst warriors do actually give up ALOT.
Warriors have really high toughness and vitality still. My Ranger power build has medium armor and really low armor/hp pool…with nothing remotely close to Hblades in terms of raw face melting skills. It’s just revolving back to how little effort a player puts into downing and stomping another in a matter of seconds. Any ability that does this is not okay, and forces everyone who wasn’t special enough to have high base hp and toughness to build pure defense. Things like this are ruining a lot of the build freedom, but what else would you expect? Of course people will find the cheapest/easiest/“tactical” thing to use and do well with…happens in every game. Some people, who like the challenge of playing a difficult class are still out there…
The sound for everything is a bit awful. Like the constant moaning of female toons when they jump or get hit,’’ Oh! Ah! Uh! Uh! Uh!". Small Asuras finishing people off, “HERRRRAAAAAAAGGGUUUUUHHH!!!!!!!”.
Simple fix. Turn off the volume or turn off the game.
Are you really surprised that you found a supposed “flaw” in a new video game? You don’t need to be a data sniffer to figure out that GW2 was released unfinished (specifically spvp)…. insert personal attack because I’m crying so hard…
Hell yeah, our F2 should perform like any other smooth spell…not like the dodgy ai it is now. I’ve started using two pigs, because 2 extra skills is better than something that rarely works and dies often. But, the only downfall is the moronic idea that we need to summon the item, pick it up, and use it. That’s like three channeling skills for one “meh” ability. IMO the boar/pig f2 should automatically place the item in our inventory. I mean…wtf engineers can swap kits for instant 5 new abilities +200 toughness whenever they want.
“The way we see it, Guild Wars 2 sPvP may be shipped, but it’s far from finished.” -Jonathan “Chaplan” Sharp
I think most of us see that, too.
blahblahblah
So? Who cares if you think plague sucks? Should we all bust out our pitch forks and march over to Anet? There’s so much wrong with this game, and your crying about plauge form when you have the best pet in the game with perma cripple knock down never on cool down.
So, a 40k hp bonus while perma blinding and crippling a team is bad. Got it.
I think the stealth mechanic needs to be minimized in PVP and devs need to find other ways to compensate those classes (thieves and mesmers).
Even if a stealth class is balanced with other classes, the high frequency of stealth abilities detracts from fun in PVP. I mean if it was a long CD stealth like 3 sec per 60sec then that is one thing, but when people are stealthing every 9 seconds it really makes for a annoying PVP experience.
It may be challenging to play against, but not very fun. I am not referring it to being OP, I am just saying stealth is not a fun mechanic in itself.
Stealthed players don’t need 0% opacity. Give them something like 15% opacity, so in a 1v1 fight we can just barely see them (I’m talking like just a hint of a body outline/shadow). However, in big team fight with abilities going off nobody is going to see a little Asura thief with 15% opacity, so stealth will work exactly like it does now in team fights.
Doesn’t matter how long you’ve been playing. Some down states are more of a momentary buff/reward for being downed while others are just plain sad. Down state is a cute idea, but really becomes more of a chore to finish thieves and mesmers than fun. A lot of cool players out there will just wait to be finished when they know they lost a fight fair and square. I like the idea of reviving teammates, and maybe having a small heal utility skill more than “50% increase damage while down” and the likes.
shapeshifting is racial norn elite skill… so no the wouldn’t give it to you its a norn racial thing
I know, but think about it..
Warrior- Giant
Ele- Tornado
Mesmer- Moa
Guardian- 2 Tombs
Engineer- Storm/Giant with Elixir X(i think)
Necro- Lich and Plauge
Ranger- RoA
What if we could have the “racial Norn Elite skill”? Most bunker builds have access to ss. If we get our DPS lowered even more, we should receive compensation. So, why not throw Ranger into the bunker class with a new elite skill. We already have good healing, and with a nice new set of abilities with a high hp could be like a necromancer. I’m just throwin’ it out there because I think the Racial Norn Elite Skill would really complement the Ranger. Give a new name, but keep the same idea. That way we could have more of an impact on games with a way higher hp for a nice initiator or anti burst dps healer/build.
Lol, Anet made the guardian weapons stronger than the entire Ranger kit. I had a sword and hammer following me, so I decided to see if I could kill them. Nope. Both my pet and I were “Obstructed” and the hammer knocked me down 3 times within ten seconds(wtf?), and took half my hp pool before they disappeared. If they had a fresh charge I would of been easily killed by NPCs. A bit ironic that the Ranger has the worst pet A.I and everyone else has kittening super heroes.
Give us the shapeshifting…delete Entangle. Every class rips through the roots in seconds, so it’s a waste of time. We already have a stability buff on 90 sec cd if your spec for it, so RoA is just o.k. Maybe we can look cool/have a bit more fun playing the weakest class?
I heard you like lost shores, so we sent you 5 emails, put a nice advertisement in the corner of your screen, and made pvp a little worse so you will check out our neat little event!
Dear Anet and Thief players,
i recetly joined Free tournament and encountered a thief in first game that completly ruined mine whole game experience. Why? Sorry but when someone can kill me with 3 hits that is not even bad thats is simply frustrating.Heres just one picture before i left spvp, think it explains all.
http://i.imgur.com/3034g.jpgI and all my friends dont play spvp just becouse this, i hope someday it will be fixed.
Honestly players
They are ruining it again, that is the same build. Steal, C&D, Backstab, and then a Heartseeker. Only thing I can say about a 8k heartseeker is don’t be so squishy.
Yeah guys, build vitality and toughness so you can’t do any damage. Now, you’ll last an extra second or two. Instead of pressing 2 three times…that thief might need to stop doing his taxes or developing new theories on quantum physics and use another heartseeker. Building defense is an absolute waste of time. Better off going glass cannon and hope you can burst him into using stealth, then just spamming attacks until a thief shows up on the ground. Now, the fun begins. Catch the thief again, yay!
The new map… cant stand it melee burst heaven terrible for condition stacking so many LoS issues. As if burst melee really needed anymore help.
I know, right? Like why am I constantly falling down this kittening hole every time I dodge. Why is this map so small? Do the ranged classes get a map where the melee dps spawns inside a barrel and we shoot at them?
Because not everyone who plays PvP completely disregards any other content. Very sorry that you do, but you’ll have to live with that announcement for a few days.
Yo, get out. It’s an annoying eye-sore. Misty Lost Shore something something go do this…no thanks.
I like using two water elementals while I’m in Earth. They put down nice aoe chill and Earth 1 is a physical projectile. Combine that with Glyph of EP, and you can proc chill and cripple on a single target for 30s. Sandstorm is a great tool to really screw someone over. You can Stun/immobolize and blind someone for a great deal of time.
Staff ele needs a very minute buff by means of increasing projectile speed, you’re spot on with that. But, Air 1 damage weak? Are you kidding? I can get 2k crits all over my screen when people are bunched up, and with 60% crit chance, 30% chance to cause burning, chance to cause random condition, runes of rage…yeah. Needless to say, Mesmers don’t stand a chance if I can dodge the stun.
Whoops, wrong Section (if a mod could move this to ELEMENTALIST, ty.)
I have fun with thieves on a daily basis, now since running Glyph of Storms. I have two staff ele’s: both have under 15k hp, but one has 1500 toughness…0 healing, btw. So, I know what it’s like to be glass cannon with no stealth crutch.
1. Warrior about to kitten blade you? Switch to Earth, 3 (grants protection if your traited)…then drop Glyph of Storms on you to create a sandstorm that permablinds anyone inside it. It has decent c/d and lasts long enough to dismiss any burst melee.
2. Now, that the thief/warrior is permablind…begin stacking bleeds, cc’ing, heal, summon a hammer, or do what you do…
I always roll Glyph of Storms strictly for sandstorm… the rest are garbage imo especially lightning storm.
(edited by Panther Chameleon.8465)
kitten, I got bored one day…made a thief. Used just the sword. No offhand because I’m a player like dat. Just popped in and out of fights with 2. Go in…land some aa…pop out. Surprisingly, worked. I don’t understand “Stab” skill though. It costs 4 initiative and does less damage then your aa. Like wtf were they thinking? I would play thief if there was a kitten greatsword skill set, and a god kitten katana.
I saw no nerf to your survivability/stealth, so you should be the ones bending over Anet. They missed with this patch. Thieves should have insane burst and minimal stealth or amazing stealth survivability and no burst. Not both. Not with zero c/d. No class should be able to kitten stealth away from fights so easy. I’m looking at Mesmers, too.
But 90% of the others are eaten by you and frustrated about the tools that Thiefs are given, and all you guys say is ‘just be a thief we are supposed to be best glass cannons’. Well guess what’s happening in pvp where people arent forced into bunker specs.
It feels nice not using stealth as a crutch. There is more skill involved with staff ele in spvp, and I enjoy using the abilities to support my team and adapt to situations. Players with the mentality of needing the easiest and most power will never get the satisfaction of using a difficult and intelligent profession. It’s like riding a GSXR 750 while all the sheep are on training wheels.
the most annoying thing about the clones for me is that no matter how much swiftness you stack you cant seem to outrun them.. there fricking everywhere they slide through walls they fly in the air they hide in the ground.. heck there even ninjaing on the roof.. i wish my necro pet ai was like that
The ai is pretty broken. Clones need a much shorter lifespan, and shouldn’t hit or chase players through walls.
Mesmers excel at 1v1. My suggestion is run away and get backup, because you will never beat a decent mesmer with a ranger. Mesmers are especially hard for rangers because confusion absolutely destroys the shortbow, they have projectile reflection and rangers don’t have good AOE or burst to get rid of clones and phantasms quickly.
You’re joking, right? Cond Ranger plus one handed sword/torch plus rampage as one equals dead mesmer. We have amazing AOE abilities, son. They are called “traps” and can be used as large ground targeting spells.
There’s nothing balanced about a thief engaging a battle and just disengaging whenever he or she so pleases with little to no pressure at all.
This has always made me question the ranger profession, why there’s no ability to ‘track’ thiefs, even with those stealth retries. I mean come on. How many times do you want to disappear just to get a kill. The same goes with mesmers. I cannot count how many freakin times they get away because of their clones and blinks. It’s such a complete and utter disapointment, having seen all your efforts gone to waste.
I agree on giving our pets the ability to sniff out stealth users, or even sniff the original mesmer amongst those clones/fakes. But for such an ability to ‘track’ hidden enemies to be implemented, it must not be a permanent passive ability, instead some sort of trait or skill that has a reasonable cooldown to prevent any imbalances or overpowered QQs.
100 percent with you. I think I speak for all of us when I say we need ‘mature’ raptors and pets that reveal hidden units and follows thieves footprints. I mean…we are hunters, so we should be able to follow people. Maybe a new skill that has a big aoe stealth reveal.
You can now play like a gw1 ranger, without a pet if you want, in doing so you can actually perform in pvp.
Or greatly improved pet mechanics, cause telling my river drake to fire its lighting in the opposite direction of my foe is what I want in a pet that takes away my damage output.
Amen. It’s not like Mesmers and Guardians take a dps hit because they have access to a plethora of npcs (which have incredible range and cc).
-Hogs F2 now gives the player a random skill. No more trying to pick up bones and tufts of hair in the middle of a fight…
I know on my wife’s computer (whose specs are right around the minimum for running GW2) there’s no issues with framerates in sPvP, even with graphics set higher than they probably should be.
You’re just the little fanboy aren’t you. Unless she’s playing 800×600 there’s no way min specs don’t stutter with all the effects
LOL! mute the game? shaco on TT? who plays 3v3 anyways? o.o
Me, and…get this…two friends!
So my (guardian/ranger/ele) second skill crits for 5-9k and has no cool down… that sounds fair right?
If I knew how kittening annoying Mesmers are before I bought the game…I wouldn’t be here right now. Just the kittening sound of spatial surge 24/7 every kittening team fight, and when it’s a little Asura screaming and yelling…just wtf. I pretty much stopped playing LoL because of Shaco on TT, and now this kitten?
Yeah, the combat log is kitten. I know it doesn’t show pet/cond damage, but why the kitten don’t the damage numbers match? I’m using skills on test golems btw…idk if that makes a difference. It seems the damage with scepter ele/air attunement numbers are completely bunk.
Idk if this is a bug, but the numbers I’m seeing in the combat log are very low compared to what I’m seeing above my foe. Like, I’ll be critting for 3k and the combat log will say I did 48 damage to someone…
anyone know exactly what they have in mind to nerf these power houses of dps, 50% reduction in damage maybe? would be a small step in the right direction i think.
I think if you leave thief dps alone and just remove stealth, so we can see them coming that would be enough to balance them.
1.) Aftercast on the all Shadow Step and “leap” style moves.
2.) Culling on stealth and, possibly, break on damage.
3.) Inability to stall cap by being in or just out of stealth.
4.) Spike drop across the board, initiative cost increase on skills but increase in damage.
5.) Condition damage and mobility drop. And if all else fails,
1b.) Deleting the class.
A-kittening-men. It’s not the damage that concerns me too much, but every skill is a homing missle insta mobility flash stealth blind. Heartseeker should require line of sight and needs a cast time. I don’t think thieves need higher ini cost, but they don’t need two skills that stealth them and heal. That kittening den is the most ridiculous ability that should be a six.
Same thing happened to me today. It’s not a bug. They can spam dancing dagger from a nice distance and down anyone in a split second if they don’t have much toughness. It’s even more disheartening then backstab spam imo because it’s a ranged ability. My engineer was hit for 16k from DD, 4k from steal, and 3k from C/D.
So last match I dueled a mesmer 3 times with my Light-Sword thief. My build focuses around survivability and evasion, and absolutely no stealth is involved. I put two traps over the mesmer portal located in the center of the graveyard. Each fight I started with the upper hand because he would teleport through the portal and instantly hit two traps plus my venom. I was able to dodge most shatter skills with shadow step. My build is kinda silly because I only use two swords equipped with “sigil of doom” and I swap weapons to keep them poisoned/weakness/cripple. Each fight I downed him with 5,000 +/- 2,000 hp and retreated to heal before trying to finish him while I had over 10k hp. Well, he was able to down me with ease. Then, his clones and phantasms continued to attack me whilst in “downed” stealth via smokebomb. I even went behind a wall to heal, but his phantasms were hitting me through the wall (No it wasn’t condition damage). So, how the kitten do you finish a mesmer in a 1v1 situation? I reckon if I was at full health he still would have downed me. Should I kill his phantasms first? What’s the deal with it being easier to down him than to finish? I’m not a huge fan of the whole “second chance” mini-game, but this is crazy. I can see how helpful the downed state can be in pve, but for pvp 1v1 fights I think it’s a bit over the top. Maybe it’s my fault for not using the traditional backstab build with plenty of stealth, eh?
I’m glad I was able to down that mesmer first. Thank god mesmers don’t do a kitten load of damage/see through stealth when they are downed.
The image is good for comedic value, but the message isn’t, mostly because anecdotal “evidence” doesn’t prove nor show anything beyond peoples ability to be incited to have a crowd reaction to stuff that they don’t like/perceive to be a problem regardless of whether it’s an actual problem.
So, you don’t think there should be a profession limit in spvp? Each team being limited by two of each profession. I think it’s safe to say there isn’t enough variety in spvp.
“Build diversity is stagnated by CnD/Steal/Backstab.” – Fynd
My new sig.
Obstructed? Oh yeah, I only see that every time I switch to shortbow/axe/longbow with my ranger. I’ve just started telling myself that “Obstructed” means I’m doing so much damage that the game can’t even comprehend.
(edited by Panther Chameleon.8465)
Yes, a profession limit is the key. Red Orchestra 2 has a limit of one or two marksmen per team, so I guess there should be one or two professions max. When there is an absurd amount of one particular class in any game it means it’s overpowered or too effective for how easy it is to use.
Quite. Message Body length must at least be 15.
Those pets don’t even compare to the fantasy of griffons, raptors, skelks, and other entities found in GW2.
Jaguar’s stealth ensures a almost guaranteed crit….its good for burst damage..its actually quite good.
I would say the pigs and their F2
4 second fears and 2 second stun initiations are bad?
When it has two cast times, is unpredictable which one you will get, and makes your pet stop fighting for the duration: yes, it’s pretty crap.
Also, jaguar is one of the best DPS pets there is. It’s natural attacks are powerful and bleed as well, it’s natural crit and power are high, plus it comes with an aggro drop+100% crit buff for 6 seconds. Win.
*Initiate means to start. So, if you use the f2 before a fight, then use that ability just before or when ganking someone you’re chances of success do increase quite a bit. And yes, the jaguar is very good.
Pets need to attack and move at the same time in pvp because right now it feels like our pets are stuck in a turn based mmo fighting agaist new mechanics such as dodge. With all the evasiveness, stealth (breaks pet aggro), and aoe death traps. Pets need a serious buff for the ranger.
Sometimes I wonder why any other class can throw on some runes and basically have the coolest pet and become a ranger. Our pet skills are limited and do not perform well unless your attacking a golem dummy. When we activate f2 our pet should remain mobile. After all, what leopard runs at mach 1 toward its prey, stops for two seconds, then pounces. This goes for auto attacks too. Pets should not be stopping and swinging at nothing, for this game focuses around mobility. With all the stuns, slows, and cripples it’s too easy to stop a rangers pet.
Out of curiosity I’ve gone complete beastmaster spec focusing on buffing the hell out of my cats with “30%” movement speed buff which is bugged, sharing boons, and all the utility to make them move faster and hit harder. However, all the movement speed and swiftness mean very little to a mobile target such as a thief or mesmer who break targeting. With all the swiftness and supposed 30% movement speed buff our pets should have no problem staying on top of or even running past other players, but nope…they still can’t catch up to the elusive thieves with 25% movement buff. It just seems odd that other professions can summon all sorts of npcs that can tremendously affect a 1v1 (thieves guild), illusionary pistol w/e, etc… but the Rangers pets are so lackluster and unforgiving. I could understand nerfing the damage to the ranger if they fixed the pets, but since they kinda suck no wonder people were going for the pure damage longbow spec.
Why should we put all of our traits and buffs onto an npc that struggles to land its attacks and abilities all while other professions such as: thieves who can land aa and abilities while evading all damage like it’s nobodies business? Our pets don’t dodge obvious attacks (they should) and they soak up made aoe damage. I won’t even let my poor kitties near a necro.
(edited by Panther Chameleon.8465)
the point of this thread is, when we (thieves) kill them in less than 3 secs they complain
but when we are killed by other class in less than 3 secs, they say its balanced,
oh why… there goes their reasoning
You can see a 100b warrior coming from a mile away, and stun break the charge if he does get you. A thief can kill you in two seconds while invisible and shadow step away from any fight. It’s not the damage that concerns me, but the sheer unmatched evasiveness, stealth, and mobility.
I feel the same. The fact that you want to put your pet away for whatever reason, then it suddenly appears when in combat or falling damage is quite annoying.
