The process is fine as it is.

The buttons have a space between them.
They are different sizes.
One says “Guest” and the Other “Transfer”
The text after you click on it is different and says exactly what you are doing
The transfer screen shows you your gem balance and cost
In the end you have to ether click on the word “Guest” or “Transfer” a second time

Guess we should be glad it isn’t just one button with an RNG mechanic.
Will you guest? Will you be transferred forever?
Roll the dice.

I’m pretty angry at Anet right now, and I think I should stop posting tbh.

be angry at yourself not them .

For what? Making a mistake anyone could make?

I was in business for a long time. If a long term customer who spent a lot of money with me bought a software program he couldn’t use and tried to return it right away, I’d give him his money back…even if it was his mistake.

Why? Because kitten ing off loyal customers isn’t smart business. No matter who’s mistake it is.

I don’t think you realise just how expendable you are.

Of course I’m expendable. Any one single customer in my business was expandable too. Any one. Any two. We had plenty of customers. There’s always another.

Which has nothing to do with the point. There’s no reason to take a person who spends money every month and will likely continue to spend money and make them feel bad about supporting your business. No reason at all.

But are you now going to stop spending money on the game? Will this incident stop you from buying more gems?

No.
So Anet managed to make you spend more money than intended and keep you coming back for more. Seems to me they’re doing their monetary business just right.

Actually it would have made me stop spending money on the game. You don’t know me very well. I’d at least stop spending money until I made back double or triple the money the transfer cost me. Fortunately I don’t have to do that.

More to the point, people will leave over stuff like this. It’s just not worth it for them.

Well, are you going to stop spending money on it until you get your refund? You sounded indecisive.

The entire game is about playing with your friends.

I busted out laughing.

I’ve never seen an MMO punish you for wanting to play with friends/guildies more than this one.

Umm ,what? How is that? This is the best MMO I have played that doesn’t punish you for wanting to play with your friends.

1- get the same XP and rewards in group as solo
2- Get to play with lower level friends without being so over powered that you one shot 5 monters all at once
3- Lower level friends don’t get less XP for having a higher level in the group
4- Higher level friends get rewards appropriate for ~ their level, ie they are not getting level 5 gear in a level 5 area
5- Higher level characters still get XP appropriate for their level when playing lower level areas with their friends.
6- Don’t have to spend so much time traveling around the world to get to your friends area.

So I am curious Guild Wars 2 punishes you for playing with your friends.

I got friends in NA, can I play with them?

Are the holiday events reserved only for level capped players?

Holiday events are not reserved, since the players are auto up-leveled to 80.

However, certain living story events/additions are for certain levels, such as the previous Living Story meta which included a lvl 80 dungeon.

The good thing though is that these events are moving towards being permanent, so you can do them once you reach the appropriate level.

Yeah. That is one thing i like about this game. The fact that if you want to try something but are not sure you want to invest to much time into creating the new character you can just send that character into PVP and see how you like it.

I think that it is a great design for the game.

Indeed.

It’s just a shame that the sPvP mode you can test stuff in has very little customisation compared to the rest of the gameworld.

Unfortunately Arena.net’s priority =/= the player’s priority. Instead of new skills and traits, new armor sets, craftable precursors, new legendaries they are busy with the Living Story which 80% of the commnity is sick and tired of.

I love how people pull numbers out of their….imagination to try to make a point. You have no clue how many people by percentage are sick of the Living World stuff. It’s probably less than you think is my guess.

By the same token, not everyone is barracking for more skills. Some people certainly are, but many people are not build-a-holics and are happy just to throw stuff together that works Those people aren’t hurting for build options, because they don’t follow any sort of meta.

I’d wager there are far more people who don’t even know a meta exists than there are those who pay attention to it.

Almost my entire guild is tired of it and we are an active PvX guild. All my friends are tired of it. A gazillion people here on the forums are tired of it. All those people who left because of the living story are tired of it. I’ll correct my statement then: make it ~90%! The living story is just a cheap way to satisfy achievement hunters.

Yet Anet decided to create more teams dedicated to the living story. Perhaps your anecdotal evidence is just that, but Anet has hard facts to show that their player base generally likes it, and is the reason why they decide to add more teams to creating it.

If they can read our minds then why is there a dev-started thread about user feedback and how to create a poll?
I thought they had all the necessary info already, huh.

Getting feedback from forums is another way to get feedback, though isn’t near as useful as the data they would collect from the game itself and on what the players are doing.

-Would- collect?

But I thought you said they already have all the data they need, hence it seemed strange to me they’d be willing to organise a poll for the community. Especially on teh community’s take on the LS drip-feeding.

I hope you do realise how incredibly difficult it is to not only collect but actually interpret data. And that’s exactly what I think Anet is going through right now, they’ve got the data about login times / frequencies and such but are drawing the wrong conclusions from them due to confounding factors they aren’t aware of.

I never said they had ALL the data they need. You know what they will do with the forum feedback? They’ll test it against the data they see in the game. If a bunch of people on the forums say “We hate living story, we will not play it, stop wasting money on it”, but their data from the game shows that 75% of their player base is participating in, then obviously the forum feedback does not represent what the players are actually doing. If anything forum feedback gives them an idea on what to look at in their data they get from the game.

This is what I’m talking about, they’ve got the data, but not the causality of the numbers.
People don’t always participate in things because they want to but out of necessity or other reasons than fun, ask the people on the champ trains.

Hence an, albeit very well thought out, in game poll should give more accurate and less vague information.

Someone on the forums mentioned an idea I found interesting:
Warriors are in fact a balanced class, they can fill in most and certainly the most important roles the game has to offer (although too many at the same time IMO) and can function in practically all situations.

This is how all classes should be, full of variety that is available through specialisation. Instead what we get is a Warrior jack of all trades master of all with the other classes being pigeon holed into very very limited roles and functioning. In some cases “cough” Ranger “cough” even none at all.

I agree.

I think there should be way fewer waypoints and more alternative ways of travel.
I remember playing Runescape as a kid and a great part of the world was the journey, you’d meet people along the way, or chat with friends and guild. But there were also a lot of alternative ways to travel, taking a canoe, or a glider, or set teleport locations, or …
The world of GW2 is gorgeous and filled with eye candy, it’s a shame it feels waay smaller than it actually is due to being peppered by waypoints.

Now that’s asking for a lot considering how many other things get priority, but maybe they could cut the amount of waypoints and give guardians and mesmers better mobility options in lieu of a balance update.

the OP doesnt want progression, and he wants WvW to be fair. Its meant to not be fair. what part of 50 versus 10 people is fair? what part of 20 seige golems versus your door is balanced?

Yea it’s unbalanced, so lets just make an orbital ion cannon available for 400g. Why not! Makes perfect sense that because something is unbalanced they shouldn’t in any way strive to make it as balanced as possible. +1

Exaggerating doesn’t help make your point. Ascended gear don’t unbalance the game any more than allowing level 2 players who don’t even have a full set of white gear into wvw does.

Yet no one complains when they have to fight an up level do they?

In fact you could make an argument that allowing up levels into wvw hurts it more than ascended gear does using all the same anti-ascended arguments presented in this thread.

I didn’t see anyone complain about WvW ranks either, and that has more of an effect than pink gear does. But hey! THAT GUY HAS PINK GEAR AND IS RUINING MY FUN!

WvW rank has no effect on a player vs. player battle, only vs. structures / NPCs / siege weapons.

Ascended items have such a little effect in wvw lol, if you lose a 1v1 or whatever it’s because you messed up or you’re just bad. The chances that the few extra stats could have made a difference is really kittening low lol, be realistic here, also they’re pretty easy to get anyway, trinkets especially.

Really ?

If it doesn’t make a difference then why are people wasting their lives grinding away for it?

Because they can and like every bit of +stats they can get, even if it is a little and doesn’t really matter nearly as much as skill. Also, what can be considered as grinding is very subjective. What you call “wasting their lives grinding” another can call it just playing the game doing the things they enjoy and having fun. I don’t have any ascended, not even level 80 yet, but I researched the what it takes to get them, and I can say that I will get the ascended gear buy doing the fun things I am doing now. Sure it will take time, but i will be having fun playing the game and I will end up with ascended gear/weapons by just playing the game and having fun, therefore it is not a grind to get that stuff.

Every 4th post seems to be about how something is too difficult/grindy/pointless.

Then people come in, depending on how desirable the reward and echo the OP.

Then you have a bandwagon of appeal to emotion that makes it look like a problem is bigger than it is.

Because obviously the severity of a problem and the number of subsequent complaints about it are inversely proportional.

Changes to Aegis

in Suggestions

Posted by: Pariah.8506

Pariah.8506

Aegis is fine.
Why make it OP?

Compared to blind, aegis is weak. Both negate a single attack, however blind can be used much more often.

There aren’t many ways to apply aegis and the skills that do apply it have hefty cooldowns:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aegis

Relative to the cooldowns, I’d say Aegis isn’t that strong. Negate one attack every 60secs+, but blind a enemy to negate a attack every 20secs or less.

Sure in pve, bosses have immunity, in pvp there is condition removal. Despite the draw backs of blind, its still vastly superior. I personally think a one second invulnerability for aegis is too strong. I’m not sure what they could do about the multi hit problem.

Blind is nothing in PvP, one autoattack and it’s gone.

So unless you’re standing in an AoE that blinds you on ticks it really is a weak condition.

Pariah.8506

I believe Ascended gear should be removed from PvP. It creates the typical “Grind to Win” scenario that is so common in other MMO/Games.

I feel that Arena Net created an amazing PvP game with Guild Wars 1 and they should stick to how things were run. I also predict a very certain power creep for Melee classes like Warriors/Thiefs who benefit so much from weapon power as opposed to classes like Mesmers/Necromancers, this will create a distinct imbalance between these classes that will be compensated by 1) Nerfing the Warrior/Thief/Guardian/Ranger and effectively screwing players who don’t have Ascended armor on these characters; OR 2) Not nerfing them and creating a huge gap in power between “Physical DPS” classes and “Magic” users.

WvWvW players like to PvP, but any PvP’er will do everything in their power to achieve an advantage over the enemy, the important thing for most PvP players is winning (yes they have fun too but winning is the most important), pretty soon we will have fully ascended players in WvWvW which will make it unplayable for people who don’t have hundreds of hours to dedicate to a single character in order to equip them with full ascended armor, I believe the weapons cost 200g each, the trinkets/accessories using Laurels would take almost a year to get and the back piece is not even available, and that’s assuming you do your daily every single day. Fractals should not be required to play PvP competitively.

WvWvW players already have to spend ~50+g on Runes + exotics to remain competitive, I believe that’s enough as you should naturally accumulate that gold levelling your character and doing a few dungeons along the way, a lot of people will say ascended armour makes no difference but if we assume both zergs are of equal skill, the zerg that is fully ascended will always beat the non ascended zerg that has 5-10% less stats, it’s the same thing as putting a level 80 zerg vs a upleveled zerg, which zerg do you think will win? And don’t get me started on roaming/sniping groups fully ascended vs non ascended people, in the law of averages, we have to assume everyone is at the same skill level so the person who is better geared will win. Could a pro player beat a fully ascended “newb”? Of course, but pro players a very rare and they don’t make up the average WvWvW in our realm. Heck, my realm is full of PvE players (Desolation) so if anything Ascended gear is awesome as the sheer power of these people will carry me but I still believe these items should not be implemented in this game mode.

Solution: It’s simple, just scale Ascended gear to Exotic stat level upon entering a Borderland. I believe fair play should be encouraged and “grind to win/pay to win” (crafting) should not be encourage or allowed in PvP, this is not World of Warcraft and I believe the fair play/balanced gear model from Guild Wars 1 was perfect and it should be encouraged not scrapped. If I wanted to go “3 Shot noobs with overpowered gear” I’d go back to WoW and grind RBGs to 2200.

Regards,
Bastien

Wall of text and no. Its fine as it is.

It is a little bit grindy getting a skill to 500, but its very easy, focused on gathering (mining, chopping) rather then other types of grinding.

I play wvw a lot, much more so then pve. I would say 75% of my income is wvw, remaining 25% all else. Currently my Artifice, Weaponsmith, and Huntsman are all at 500. So far I have crafted 7 ascended weapons. My main has 4 (includinf underwater) and my alts 1 each. At the current rate I will have minimum 1 ascended weapon per alt (6 alts) and a full set on my main in about 3 weeks or so.

I have a job, a life etc. and do not spend 16 out of 24 hours in the game. Vast majority of people I play with are likewise.

Based on my own experience, let me ask you a question.

Why should we be punished by Y O U R lack of ability or willingness and have our ascended weapons removed ? You do not represent majority of playerbase, in fact you represent a very vocal but incapable minority.

Getting ascended weapons is a leisurely PvE activity. You do have to plan it a little bit though. Basically move your mouse cursor over stuff in the game, read descriptions, come to conclusions and follow a plan you set for yourself. Gathering the mats takes me roughly 15 minutes a day, sometimes I go 30-45 minutes if I skip a few days and kill a world boss or 2.

This stuff is so incredibly easy and just happens by itself over time that I cant understand how can anyone be stupid enough not to get it.

YOUR complaint has no merit, and you falsely assume that you represent everyone, you do not.

This is comedy gold.

People still defend this by saying “the stats don’t matter lol” even after it’s debunked literally every time it’s brought up? I thought only marketing shills did that.

Because surely if the stats are “too small to make a difference” then there’s no point in having them there in the first place, right? If they don’t make a difference, why is removing them bad? It won’t make any difference. LOL I DUNNO BUT I GETS PAID TO DEFEND ANET ON THEIR FORUM

“Small stat differences don’t matter”. I wonder how DOTA players who waste their time and starting gold getting Iron Branches would have to say to that. Or SC2 players that very literally practice builds just to get a certain unit out 0.5 seconds faster.

The only defense for this nonsense in WvW is the great “yeah well WvW is already unbalanced and it’s supposed to be that way” technique, which is a good deflection, but it doesn’t really explain how keeping it that way and avoiding improvements in that department is a bad thing instead of a good one. I mean, Anet already knows WvW populations are all over the place and completely imbalanced. Surely, that means it’s ok if they stay that way and nobody bothers to try and create balanced matchups, right? Who cares! It’s supposed to be broken and imba!

It’s the stat differences in relation to the other mechanics that makes the small stat increase not matter.
WvW outcomes week to week? Gear makes no difference.
Zerg V Zerg? – Little to no difference.
Havok squad match ups? – Small difference, but probably hard to detect.
3v3 – Small difference that you maybe notice once and a while.
1v1 – small but noticeable difference.

The point I’m making isn’t that there’s no change at all, but that in the scope of game play moment to moment, class, build, and skill of the participants dictate the outcome of fights, with gear playing a non-trivial but negligible part in the outcome.

But Vayne, uh, I mean Mr. Mackdose, you’ve said yourself there are a lot of factors to a fight.
And a huge one is the confidence you get from knowing the odds are on your side – that you are more likely to win and have an advantage over your opponent.

Take this from someone who had practised fencing for 8 years on a competitive level.

I really like how having a reasonable opinion and not jumping on the emotional tunnel vision bandwagon makes me Vayne.

Does that confidence give you a tangible gameplay advantage?

Relax man, don’t take yourself too seriously, it’s just a joke

And to answer your question: Yes, yes it does.
90% of what we do depends on mental capabilities more than on physical ones, and playing a video game certainly falls in the former category.
And I have many times, first-hand had the opportunity the witness the amazing power of confidence in a match. So not only does it matter on a pure mathematical level (I disagree with the notion that small changes = no changes) but also on a psychological one.

I’ll be pretty amused when people start posting threads on LFG post that are “LF <whatever> FULL ASCENDED!” and they require the armour and weapon pings in chat. Remember how it was when CoF P1 was popular. Groups wanted that ping else you’d get kicked pretty fast.

“It doesn’t affect me, I don’t do it/I only play with friends/I don’t join elitist”.

Cool story. Needs a bit more feeling to it though.

Funny. It seems the only people that will be left in the game will be the elitists/vertical progression crowd, people with many friends that are ‘like minded’ or people that simply don’t know any better, such as new people to MMOs.

You have to admit, it’s kind of funny.
I know a lot of people that seemingly do nothing but hang around in LA all day long until late at night, chatting and talking on Vent / TS, essentially reducing the game to a glorified chat room with dress up avatars.

Totally, absolutely, 100% agree.

But only if we give the WARRIOR easy access to aegis with low CD, otherwise it would be unfair.

There’s more involved with overall class balance than just number issues. In order for classes to be on an even playing field many are going to need a complete overhaul (or gutting depending how you look at it) of their utility. Many others will need to have their AE improved (or again, others massively nerfed). Burst improved, etc.

At some point ANet needs to visit the class forums and just lay out what they want the classes to do, where they feel they’re at right now, and where they want them to be in 3 months time. We have some classes like Warriors and Guardians that are beyond rediculous right now. So if these classes are the baseline for what balance is supposed to look like I can’t help but wonder when Ranger’s will get explosive collars for their pets that 1 shot players on a 1min cooldown.

I know that sounds trollish but the disparity between the top 2 classes and the bottom 2 is that significant. It’s very hard for the players to help with class balance though when some of the classes we haven’t the faintest clue what the class is supposed to do. They’re so far off from their discription and have received no improvements on anything vital for a year people are often better off rerolling.

All these “If you’re new, play a Warrior or Guardian” threads that pop up may seem like trolls, but they’re the honest truth for the way this game is currently headed.

That’s the problem, Anet has no clue whatsoever where they want to go, let along how they want to do that.
The manifesto? It apparently didn’t mean ANYTHING, as certain people will gladly tell you time in time again.
The January statement? It has already shown to have been contradicted in game as other threads have brought to light.

Right now I personally have absolutely no idea in which direction this game is going, and for once I regret saying that I believe myself to be one of many.

Ascended gear in WvW is irrelevant. You will not notice the difference, especially when you consider the other bigger variables, such as orb buff, party buffs and blob size

If it’s irrelevant then what’s wrong with making it really irrelevant and disallowing it in WvW?

because the effort to code all that is not worth it? Let alone all the people who invested badges/laurels for ascended gear. We want to shaft those people?

But the effort of designing, coding, modelling, animating and testing to introduce a feature that “makes absolutely no difference” was?

With the way optimisation is currently handled I’d say we’re already there.

GW2 has less grind than almost any game ever made.

GW2 has less grind than GW1.

Breaking news!
A poster on the forums of Arena Net’s Massive Multiplayer Online game Guild Wars 2 has been found to be posting from a parallel dimension. Scientists are baffled.

Guilds too quiet

Guilds are massively important, BUT in GW2, unless you’re in a really big busy guild, the GW2 guild system doesn’t work, people are stuck on different servers and theres no way for Euro and US guildies to play together

This is a real shame.

I know some people from NA, but I can’t play with them, how come Anet?
How come?

If you do the math using the calculators, statistically the difference on a berserker gear (weapon + trinkets) ascended vs exotics is ~ 6%. in Condition gears the difference is way less!

IMO the difference is quite neglectable for the rage we see in the forums towards Ascended gear (i have full exotics and i do just fine).

I’m more worried about players don’t using any consumables that boosts way more the damage than the said gears!

It removes the requirement to travel, load screen, and return to change traits,

they already offer a way around it through the gem store

ha..haha..hahaahahaha ohh money grab :P

If that’s how you want to interpret it.

I prefer to look at it as being a “hey guys, we don’t want you retraiting for every encounter”.

ok ok, valid, but how about perhaps adding at least 1 retrait NPC in every zone? or perhaps you can only use the instant-retrait when within a certain range of a Waypoint?

It is similar, but there are alot of times, when I just want to change a few points here and there, not an entire reroll, because I tend to like testing various trait combinations, which can’t happen too well in the middle of LA.

It was clearly designed to contribute to the gold sink necessary to counter balance the new gold generated to curb inflation as much as possible.
Too bad the TP and crafting were handled in such a way that all those methods failed.
Not to mention things like CoF p1 and Queen’s pavilion were left unattended for too long and have left their irreparable mark on the economy.

There’s a certain sense of progression and achievement when there’s places you can;t reach yet. There’s advantages to opening up every single piece of content to everyone at once, but it dulls a sense of getting stronger.

Perhaps accessibility should then be decided by player skill instead of number magnitude, hmm?

For a start, how would you decide player skill? What’s too easy for some is too hard for others.

Secondly, you can’t level player skill, which means that if some people are bad at the game, you’ll have entire zones which they can’t access.

Player skill is decided by testing of course. Unfortunately all of GW2’s testing was done in house, which shows..

It is a most basic assumption that the further a game progresses the better a person becomes at it. Of course there should be a difference in area difficulty, but that difference should be expressed in the difficulty of the challenge (and contrary to popular belief I don’t mean damage sponginess and CC spamminess only) which in itself would be constructed of various aspects such as the quantity of enemies, their behaviour, their tendency to work together, the objectives at hand, etc.

So while there should be a difference in area difficulty so that not all max level areas are equally hard or easy there absolutely should be very hard content that players should strive to perfect their play style for. Think of places like UW, Kannaxai, Urgoz, DoA…

Super team :)

You should call yourselves something juvenile, like.. I know! ’Destiny’s edge’, how does that sound?

And then you should disband because of some meaningless drama, yup.
