Just a little fun with something I thought about.

Has anyone noticed that the Guild Wars 2 forums have the same classes that you find in game?

Forum Warrior: These are the people that will defend their position emphatically, even when nobody else is even interested anymore. They will bunker down in a topic and sit for an hour, telling everyone why their opinion is the best.

Forum Guardian: These are the ones similar to the warrior, but spend more time defending Guild Wars 2 than they do themselves.

Forum Thief: The poster that puts in a single witty (at least in their mind) comment and then disappear. Sometime later, they may pop back in, but it’s only briefly.

Forum Engineer: Those that will take part of what a few other posters have already said and spin it in such a way that it becomes something totally different, can be explosive, but in most situations is useless.

Forum Necromancer: These are either the posters that resurrect old and well-dead topics or bring up old ideas that have been rehashed over and over again.

Forum Elementalist: These are the ones that explode into a topic right away, and if the other posters haven’t moved on after that, this person does. All burst… no substance.

Forum Mesmer: These are the posters that say the same thing over and over again, basically cloning their original comments excessively, usually prefaced by “My point still stands.” (I’m guilty as charged on this one.)

Forum Ranger: Usually contributes nothing to a topic, but fights like hell to prove they are important.

DISCLAIMER: This is just a bit of fun. Take it at that.

Nah. The suits looked at the numbers and seeing that statistically a zerg is bigger than a dungeon group concluded that creating content for massive zergs will mean more people will be playing the game (and buying gems).

All future content will be designed around a map full of players. I wouldn’t even be surprised if future battles will require simultaneous victory across the main server and several overflows at once. You know, to “keep engage as many people as possible in the exciting new content”

So pay up and transfer to a full 100% zerg server you’ll never make it to anyway because of overflows. That’s how this game is supposed to be played.

Because they just don’t care.
You’re talking about a company that would rather redundantly change the description of the daily achievement instead of properly updating it to include a new mechanic they themselves introduced.
But there’s one thing you can be certain about: The gem$hop will always function perfectly and will always be fed with new skins and items for you to buy.

So what’s the answer. You bring up a problem but I’m not sure I see a solution to it.

But you do, it’s: “Go do a few events, gather some stuff, kill a few things….you know that is playing the game, even if it’s not doing the dungeon you want to do, or sitting in WvW.
Or don’t do the event.”

what does it feel like to play a game you don’t enjoy?

It’s like being a pilot after a lift-off; you switch on the auto-pilot occasionally looking at the dashboard to make sure everything is OK while you chat with the other crew members.

The liftoff was great, but all that’s keeping me from parachuting out are the people I’ve met whose company I enjoy. If they weren’t there / would quit, I’d leave this crashing plane in a blink of an eye.

I agree with the OP.

These huge free for all events are designed with the best intents – I’m all for challenging content.
But the execution is abysmal; If you want to be part of the actual server you’re playing on you best reserve your spot at least an hour beforehand. Back in the old days it was called ‘camping a boss’, must we resurrect this horror of the past?

And even if you managed to get on the main server it still is a gamble, will you have enough DPS, or reflects, or stability, or condition removal? You’ll just have to hope for the best because you have no idea what professions and skills people will bring along. And because of overflow nobody is going to leave if you, say, don’t have enough guardians.

I say bring on the challenges Anet, bring on tough bosses and seemingly impossible odds. But for the love of all that’s holy give us the proper means to rise up to the challenge, with actual planning and preparation and not mere thoughts of “hope I’m lucky this time”

This is the case now, and hasn’t changed at all. Not one iota.

The thing is, this is supposed to be the first change of many. Anet doesn’t want to make a huge BOOM change. Look at all the crying over this already and it’s not even out. Could you imagine what the response would be if Anet cut it further.

They’re making this change to make other future changes possible, but it’s one step at a time.

Given the reaction record of these forums, I’d think that’s a pretty smart move on their part.

I for one would be glad if they made a BOOM change. They intended to break the mould and do some radical things with this game, I’ll wholeheartedly approve of them trying new things, god knows this game needs it.

There’s nothing wrong with making mistakes, mistakes lead to better understanding, improvement and progress. But for that to happen one must acknowledge mistakes, and so far I haven’t seen that in the communiques of corporately-correct language.

I’m pretty sure that when proponents of other sets asked for the gap to narrow, they weren’t just asking for berserker to be lowered — they were asking for others sets to be more effective/desirable. This is not what will happen. No mob changes, no adjustments to the effectiveness of other gear set-ups.

What ANet is doing is the functional equivalent of adding ~10% to the health of mobs — but only for dedicated DPS-max groups. The experience of non-berserker groups will not change at all. The experience of groups with a berserker or two will be slightly longer run times. Dedicated speed run groups are no more likely to be willing to accept soldier or cleric users than they were before.

This change is nothing other than ANet taking the easy way out by adjusting some numbers in tables — rather than accepting the harder task of actually fixing mobs to be more diverse, have better AI, and to demand more diversity because of their mechanics. It’s a cop-out.

They could be doing both you know. I assume you understand how hard AI in an open environment is to code. This means long development, and a massive amount of testing.

We already have AI in the heart of the Mists that dodges, cleans conditions and uses more than that one skill whenever it’s off its CD.
We had smarter mobs in the first beta (whose flaw of being turned harmless by AoE could easily be fixed by allowing them to attack on the move just like us).

Honestly they’ve got a lot covered already, and I’m sure that many others like me will greatly appreciate enemies that require a different approach than huddling in a corner.

The trend for Berserker armour is not the issue, it’s a symptom.

“Fixing” the zerker problem would mean overhauling mob behaviour radically. This will never be done.
Right now Berserker’s gear is the absolute fastest way to clean content that consist of GIGANTIC damage sponges for 90%, can you imagine how much longer it will soon take to do that content? Better get ready to put aside 1 hour for CoF p1. Not grindy indeed.

That’s why we need underflow instead of overflow.

The only reason people flock to the popular servers is because they know their own server to be empty. If underpopulated servers were certain they’d get people from other underpopulated servers redirected to them by the system they’d band together and do the event.

Honestly, this would fix ALL the issues mentioned in the OP post. Correct me if I’m wrong.

We just wanted to respond to the image that has been data-mined from the Edge of the Mists testing branch.

This is a testing branch. We conduct internal experiments for various territories on our testing branches. This particular experiment is not being tested for the West.

As always, keep in mind that we test a lot more than we ship, so data-mining is no guarantee of anything. If we have announcements to make about future content, we’ll make them through the usual official channels.

So the host of the party pulls out a gun from under the table and announces he has no intention of using it, whereupon he leaves it on the table and proceeds as normal.

Oh thank you, I feel so much better now.

Actually yes I have. Your logic is flawed.

So what korean grinder did you play? Because this had to be a really good one, I have yet to see a korea grinder with the same amount of content/voice acting/updates

If you played GW1, why do you complain about grind? This game was grindy as hell. “B-But it was totally optional” No it was not, skills got stronger, you got access to more weapons/armors and good luck having “best in slot” gear with a pvp character back when prophecies was released.

Yeah, GW1 sure was grindy as hell.
Man I remember how people got run to Droknar’s forge for BiS gear, just like that in an instant, that’s grindy, right?
You also seem to remember people playing the game before the rank dependant skills came out, they somehow played it back then, didn’t they?
Oh and FYI by the time you got to the quest where you’d acquire a skill you’d already be at least R3, if you explored the area some to unlock the outposts / advance the story more you’d be R4 and those skills were already capped at R5.

Stop trying to be apologetic about this game’s grind by casting a skewered vision on its predecessor.

Yeah the superior Rune of Health was quiet expensive. The r9 15^50 health weapon was pretty easy to obtain from the collector but getting that +30 health was another huge amount of money you had to spend.

SS/LB skills weren’t capped at R5 same goes for Kurzick/Luxon skills and the EotN ones.

The Superior Rune of Health could be afforded by pretty much everyone, not to mention it was only expensive for perfectionism’s sake, 9hp wasn’t going to save your life and the only ones that really needed it were the tanks.

Sorry to tell you that the EotN skills were in fact capped at r5, and the Kurzick-Luxon ones at r6, not to mention anyone that had actively participated in Factions content had r6 way before they came out, as the PvE Kurz / Lux skills came out waay after Factions.

Sunspear Skills? Capped at r5 as well. Out of the mere 2 Lightbinger skills we had one was capped at r4 while only the other had 8 tiers of improvement as you described to how many Servant of Abaddon it affected.

+30 inscription? 6-4k, depending on how impatient you were. If you are calling ~5k a lot of in game currency in GW1 then I really must ask you if you actually played the game or watched some Let’s Plays of it.

Once again, stop trying to make amends by providing false info.

So there’s nothing wrong with the game then?

They tried making mobs run out of AOE/out of melee range in one of the betas. It ended up being hilarious because anyone with a stationary pulsing AOE on short CD (elementalists, guardians, etc.) could just totally shut down any mob, including bosses, just by spamming AOEs and watching it run around trying to get out instead of attacking.

Make mobs able to attack on the move like us, lower their HP from the horrendous sponging it is at currently and makes them have a melee and a ranged attack.

Guild wars 2 combat & where is my AI at.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pariah.8506

Pariah.8506

The main problem in IMO the AI.

When your opponent doesn’t provide a challenge you don’t need to further your skills and become proficient.

As it is the AI in GW2 exists in a completely different dimension than the players:

  • It simply doesn’t care about AoE
  • In fact it’s oblivious to any sort of positioning, if a ranged mob gets pulled close to a stacked zerk group it will continue to attack them with its ranged attack from up close where it’ll get whacked by the zerkers full force
  • It doesn’t time its (very very few) skills to interrupt/ spike players properly, spamming them when CD is down instead
  • Its only reason it sustains itself is because of a disproportionally large HP pool
  • The former excuses it from having to sue any heal skills ever, making player CC nigh irrelevant
  • Due to its extremely limited skillset it can’t into teamplay. Unless it’s something hardwired like the Gongplaying Dredge (note that they will proceed to use their gong buffs regardless if they’re in a group or not and that they will neglect attacking in favour of using that skill once it’s off CD, even if the player is near death and could be killed quickly it will still choose to play its gong instead) mobs don’t have anything to compliment each other.

The only merit I can give it is that it holds off its attack if you use one of those “Effect on block” skills like Thief’s Spear No.3

The mobs needs to change drastically, lower their HP and give them means to defend and heal themselves instead, make them smarter, make them pose an actual threat that doesn’t blindly rush into a group of zerkers stacked in a corner.
Above all make PvE being about something more than just plain damage. How did it go again Jon?
“DPS: Call it whatever you like—DPS, damage per second—we just call it DAMAGE, and when it comes to making red bars go down, you can never have enough of it. Don’t trivialize it though” well guess what, you just did

Oh, you mean just like the clipping issues that existed in GW1 as well?

Yeah, you’re right… let’s not try to improve!
From a game that comes years after the previous one, i expect MORE and BETTER than the prequel.

You expect a mmorpg with no clipping issues…?

You have MORE races, you have MORE body types and you have MORE armor parts to combine.

This would be valid if the bugs that existed and acknowledged in other areas of the game had been fixed within an entire year of identification, let alone armour clipping issues.

Anet does the bare minimum, as proven by using living story as an excuse to not make an expansion.

And a lot of bugs have been fixed.

I wouldn’t call the living story an excuse; it was a choice, and a cool idea. I do believe its implementation was flawed and at this point I’d rather an expansion myself, as it would allow them to concentrate more on the content itself and to rely less on gem sales. But the amount of detail and thought that goes into each update is staggering, and saying that Anet does the bare minimum is simply untrue.

OP: how much of a difference could there be, once you dye it properly?

You are kidding right?
It was an excuse.
A year was the interval for gw1 campaign additions.
Entirely new continent, skills, weapons, weapon skins, armour skins, professions, monsters, lore.
Gw2 has poorly written and rushed unrelated lore.
Bugs that benefit players are either hotfixed or fixed with a patch days after they are discovered, bugs that hinder players to game breaking point are ignored for months or even years.
Broken promises and lack of entire teams (dungeon teams) ruin in game content.
Sure it was a choice for them not to make an expansion, but living story was an excuse for the choice.
They are all for gem sales to the point where they implement infusions so players will buy their gem store item of infusion removing consumables.
Money hungry biased slackers.

I do not agree. You listed all the cons and conveniently forgot all the pros. Let’s leave it at that. It’s Wintersday! Have a good time. Wherever that may be. –

The pros are why I play and what I paid/pay for.
The cons are why I am disgruntled and posting here.
