Yeah they are paranoid of engies being good.
Consider that when we got sigils we also got small nerfs to kits. What does that mean? It means that in their eyes kits were already good damage wise, and that when sigils were added that was not a buff, it was a mere shift in power.
I am almost positively sure that when the weapon stats are added to kits, another slight nerf will happen and we are back to square one.
The irony is we have a nice looking engi in our Tools trait picture lol. But nothing similar in-game.

Here is my engie in SE armor. I don’t think it looks so much as steampunk as others have said, seems more of a heavy soldier look.
Its probably cause I have it green and with karma shoulderpads though…

For melee, I would like to see something like a drill kit. Melee, with the ability to go underground and drill straight into your opponents. Think moletarians.
The wrench is fine and all but having variety wouldnt hurt.
Guessing you mean the invigorating speed which is vigor (100%endurance regeneration). Combined with adrenal you will have 150% endurance regen. You can also add sigil of superior energy that gives half of your endurance back when you switch weapons.
No, he is comparing our adrenal with a rangers natural vigor trait. They both do the same but rangers unlock it way early while ours is grandmaster.

I dont think we’ll ever see signets on engineers as they are, which is a shame. But im hoping we get something like signets but with an engineer twist. Instead of stat enhancing signets, we could get passive weapon and armor mods. A turret mod could be mounted on an engies shoulder and it would auto attack every so often…or something like that.
Okay that was a little off topic but hey an engineer can dream.
I would be interested in scope getting a critical chance increase from 10 to 25% since 10 seems so little if your are forced to stand still.
But of course they have to fix it first to see if 10% is actually worth the stand or not. I’m just doing a preemptive complaint
Scatter Mines cooldown is 12s without any traits and if you use Rifled Barrels trait it will decrease to 5 seconds. Kinda Buggy.

About two days ago I was doing fotm, the underwater fractal part and noticed that the cd on scatter mines was 5 seconds. Then yesterday I downloaded the patch, did not find any notes on it and shrugged it off. Today I did some hotw and noticed it is now at 12 seconds, so my question is did anyone else notice this? And are there any patch notes for yesterday’s patch?
Edit: Yeah it used to be five seconds. I remember using hair trigger to lower it to four.

You dont even need a condition build to beat melee. What lets you beat melee is all the cc we can have. I run a tanky rifle built but I eat melee classes simply because of net shot, net turret and net attack. You run with pushbacks but its still efectively the same. I’m sure as an engineer, that is where most of our strength lies on.

I hated that too, especially because the rifle traits are on the firearms line, but like you said, it gives condition power instead of crtical damage. Now Im sure pistol users are fine with since they benefit from mored condition but rifle users not so much because other than blunderbuss, no skill does cond.

i truly believe engineers were meant to wear heavy armor, or to be able to mix and match at the least. those gauntlets are for sure either extremely reinforced leather or they’re plate.
Ha that is actually my desktop background! After looking at that (and before the game released) I was so inspired by its kitten look that I just had to roll a Charr engineer. Sadly in game, engineers look nothing like that :/

Oh and yeah I agree with many points op said, though not so much on survival. I feel on my engie that’s a decent thing we can do. Mostly cause I play with elixir s, the trait version for it and the tool kit. I am at least able to go in an enemy zerg, finish off a downed opponent while invlunerable with elixir s and get out quickly with gear shield a few rolls, and sometimes a toss of elixir s if I get lucky on the right one.
I like that you can argue your points clearly though, if we want change that is what we have to do.

Makes me wish I hadn’t used the one I had found (Decided to use it when it was 21g on tp) :/ but yea it is being manipulated by someone.
Its not exotic but you can also get the ascended version of those stats from fotm, which is what im working on right now.
Engineer with elixir gun. Its high damage, absurd amount of healing and its retreat jump means your always ready for anything. And dont even get me started on its aoe cone attack skill.
As a pve/wvw player I tried to spvp a few times. It was fun for a bit but stopped doing it after reaching rank 5 or 6. To put my reason simply as an engineer the down state annoys me watching everyclass have it better than me. The down state shouldnt be in spvp that would be more enjoyable than it is right now imo. Second reason is…how exactly does spvp benefit my pve character? :/
The comparison between GW Assassin and GW2 Thief is not correct(not to say directly stupid).Here is why:
1.In GW1 Assassin have next to best armor (70,only Warrior have 80).You might argue that here medium armor is next to best,but it’s not near as good as a tool of defense as it was in GW1.
2.In GW all classes have same base HP.Here thief have 8000 less base hp than Warrior for example.
3.In GW1 you can choose from up to ~300 skills,including the secondary profession.Whit 300 skills to choose,it is much more easy to “scramble” a potent build.
Also in GW1 players have access to numerous healing abilitites w/o cooldown.
4.In GW Assassin have access to many invulnerabilites,here we can only dream of them.
5.This leave us with the two Usual Suspects:Stealth and Mobility.Many people wants one of them nerfed.Some people wants both of them nerfed,Or removed….
Meanwhile,while those people are busy whining,the decent players are getting good,the good players are getting much better!
I have no doubt that if thieves were released without invisibility, some of these points would have been fixed accordingly, such as instead giving them more invulnerabilites in place of their current stealth skills or something similar, Or giving them higher base hp while still having the high mobility and feel of an assassin/thief.
To me it is a shame they didn’t go this way but invisibility will always be part of this game now and nothing can be done about it.
I cant blame you for using the skill when its supposed to be used. But I can blame arenanet for making this skill and not considering potential abuse of it.
In my opinion invisibility should have never been ntroduced to guild wars. guild wars 1 had assasins that did not need invisibility. Shadow stepping was enough and the class was balanced. Inbisibility on its own is not uncounterable on its own, but when combined with shadowstepping and high mobility it makes for some op situations.
It makes me sad in general that some guy developing the game had a “me too” mentality and hopped on the invisibility wagon, where almost every new game coming out had invisibility because “its cool to have it and be a ninja” I wish i knew who that person was so I could flood that person’s mail with pictures of sad animals :/
Thanks all for sharing your thoughts and I gotta say many of you made valid points for both sides of the debate. Even so, after reading all this, I would be shocked if the devs still decided not to change their philosophy on engies.
personally I hate them because of stealth. I dont mind if you can sneak up on me but if you fail to kill me and I start to beat you, there should be no way you should be able to escape so easily with a few shadowsteps and invisibility. Battles in a balanced game should be able to go both ways where either person wins or both back off. Fighting thieves feels like theres only two options: You either get killed by one or it runs away.
I thought Engineers were like Aquaman since they’re best at water.
After the underwater nerfs they’re just average/above average there, nothing special.

Where did they state that? Do you mean bunker builds in general or engie bunker builds?
My update on how many tried it took me to get my tonics:
Princess Tonic: 6 tries
Golem tonic: 3 tries
The almost a Little pony tonic: 2 tries
I think my luck had something to do in that I waited a bit before I made them. As in Im not sure how exactly diminishing returns work so I took no chances for the second two I made and did them as the first thing I logged on before I started playing.
If rangers used rifle, there would not be anymore space or use for us engineers :P
i agree on this. As an engie I hate to wear armor that looks like it was made for rangers or thieves, which sadly is like 99% of all medium armor.
Then again, would foostivoo be so special if you could just buy it without any RNG involved?

yes i would be just as excited to buy foostivoo straight up, the same way people get excited after buying their first car or a new game system. you dont need gambling to feel good. instead most of the times it leaves you feeling awful after knowing what you tried and failed.

Usually to clear up my inventory quickly during grinding or fotm run I use the deposit all collectibles tab to do it quicker. However this makes it hard for me to carry a mini pet around since it also gets deposited to bank too. I would like an option to exclude certain items like minis from being put into collectibles storage when deposit all is used. I know I can go click on my stuff one by one but that takes away the point of having that functionality around.
Same thing was happening in our borderlands the other day (fa) when I was trying to get the second half of key. There were two guys, one was a mesmer knocking down people and the other just protecting him or watching for laughs, but they only knocked me down once since I was unaware. The second time I was ready for them and was able to get on the other side by using throw elixir S (one of the rare times when getting either stability or invisibility from it both work). I then magnet pulled the other guy, gave him a beating, after which the mes jumped down trying to run away. Luckily the rest of our server got him good >:). A bit later on, we saw that mes again trying to get back up there but we gave him another trashing before he made it back up.
I don’t think engineers are exactly geniuses, as evidenced by lame gadgets like rockets boots that knock you back, but the are intelligent for sure. How else would they have been able to build such things?

according to last september graph a few months ago, engie and mesmer were tied for last with warriors first i think. considering the main characters of half my guild are warriors, the effectiveness of mesmers in wvw and how anytime engineers get grouped together in a party they start to talk about engie stuff….its safe to assume warriors are first and mesmers have beaten engies in popularity while the rare engie uses anytime they get to form everlasting bonds with other engies in an engie forsaken world.

As for what devs are planning, we know that they will be adding kits to scale with weapon stats. Or adding the weapon stats (power/prec etc) to kits. What they actually meant has probably become a little blurry but we know something along those lines is coming.
How about just add an elite that summons a supermarket kart shaped transportation vehicle where you can slot in all your turrets and just ride around on it while screaming wheeeeeeee!
Or just make damage scale with your power

Well that is pretty lucky for you but if you try it again, most of the time you will not end up with much, if anything at all but those tonics. Those horrible, infuriating, horrifying tonics.

Its just sad that after spending real money in life you can just sometimes end up with nothing to show for it but tonics. Seasonal chests in gem store shouldn’t have it, nothing worse than opening chests and after looking at what you got, it pretty much shows only tonics. One time use items that pretty much don’t help you at all in game and you end up with more tonics than you’ll ever use for costume brawls. In my opinion, for any new events that happen, replace the tonics with anything else. Anything. Keys, heavy bags of gold, even guild influence items would be more useful. I don’t think anyone wants to spend hard earned money for such lame items or have ever been excited to get them from chests. That’s probably the big problem with chests, you can spend so much money but end up with only tonics. Instead of tonics it can even be some sort of special coin that you can turn in the gemstore to pick up a chest item of your choosing if you acquire enough of those coins!
Anyone else sick of tonics too?
