But with that out of the way I love being able to fight in townclothes with kits and Jump shot is extremely helpful in jumping puzzles

Fight with townclothes on

I don’t know if people already know but you can still effectively fight with your town clothes on just by switching to a kit afterward to fill up your main hand weps. I figured this out by accident but now I’m tempted to go around fighting in the fancy winter outfit and some aviators glasses on; time to make the other classes jealous

Edit: btw does someone know if you can still see the boxing gloves when using the toolkit?

I don’t really care about the grenade nerf, as only the #1 skill was nerfed and Poison and Flash Grenade were buffed. Besides, Anet has said that they are working on making kits scale with weapon stats, so it’ll balance out soon enough.

I’m too busy enjoying the fact that sigils work with weapon kits.

I’m not entirely too sure he meant to scale kits. It could have possibly just meant adding the +power +vitality etc stats to kits too.
Heres the quote:
“Step two is to get the weapon stats to apply to kits as well. We felt sigils was the more important first step because it creates build diversity. Flamethrower with sigil of air? Yes please.:

To developers: What we pay for versatility

in Engineer

Posted by: Penguin.5197

Penguin.5197

Reading that in the class balance notes was a bit of a stunner. I mean, they directly reference the engie versatility as a reason for having low damage, but ele is king of versatility, and suffers no dmg reduction as a consequence? The skill ceiling on engie is high as well, so why not reward the players who have mastered the class with powerful build options?
Man, I dunno. I just don’t understand what niche they want engie to fit into anymore.

Yeah that was my main problem too and the reason why I decided to make this post. With what we already have paid we should not have that on top too.
In my opinion, the game designers have to rewrite the engineer philosophy into something the along the lines of:

“The Engineer is a highly versatile class. While it doesn’t have the long range capabilities of the Ranger, or the melee capabilities of the Warrior or Guardian, they are comfortable at medium ranges in most fights. They have a lot of control, and use their boons to keep themselves (and allies) alive in a fight. They can use different kits based on the situation, but this extreme versatility comes at a cost of no weapon swapping and limited selection of main hand weapons.

The limited selection of main hand weapons might be arguable but the basic idea of what I mean is there

To developers: What we pay for versatility

in Engineer

Posted by: Penguin.5197

Penguin.5197

After reading the engineers class balance philosophies and raging and being frutrated, then calming down a bit, I decided to write down points on why getting damaged reduced should not be another cost to pay for versatility, since we pay enough for that already. I hope when arenanet developers read this they take it seriously.

Before that here is their philosophy on engineers one more time for people that may have missed it: “The Engineer is a highly versatile class. While it doesn’t have the long range capabilities of the Ranger, or the melee capabilities of the Warrior or Guardian, they are comfortable at medium ranges in most fights. They have a lot of control, and use their boons to keep themselves (and allies) alive in a fight. They can use different kits based on the situation, but this extreme versatility comes at a cost in damage on their main hand weapons.”

And here is what we pay for it already:

1. Our tool kits are already paid by not being able to weaponswap: What comes natural to other classes we cannot really do, but its made up by a semi variety of kits. Other classes like a warrior are easily versatile on the battle field, where they can easily switch between short and long range weapons without having a damage penalty on their weapons. So use having versatile kits doesn’t seem too special.

2. Every kit cost a utility slot to use: Unlike ele’s attunements, which are innate and free, we have to choose carefully about what kit to use because for every kit we use, that is one less utility available.

3. Much of our versatility is too unreliable: I assume our versatility comes from being able to do what other classes can do such as copying a warriors stability or a thieves’ stealth, but when its all rolled up into one skill, you got a 50/50 chance of screwing yourself up. Same for many other effects in our elixir group. I get the reasoning that they wanted to make some sort of gamble build, but in reality its too unstable, could never see it be used in professional games. Imagine if half the time a thief wanted to get into stealth they just made themselves literally a bigger target to hit and thats what engineers have to go through continuously. Or how about throwing down an elixir for stability in hopes you wont get knocked down from fractals harpies, only to get invisibility? At least the harpies wont get to see your character fail miserably.

4. Being able to cast boons on allies is already hindered by radius size Most of our boon share comes from thrown elixirs, and when their radius size is as big as Jump Shot, our boon support capability suffers. Seriously try landing a projectile that takes time to get there on a group of jumping , running and dodging allies. Other classes with shouts that you don’t even have to target and bigger area of effect fields do it way better. I say that because of this part in their philosophy “use their boons to keep themselves (and allies) alive in a fight.”

So to the developers: In conclusion please look over the engies again. We already pay enough as it is we don’t need changes with a mindset set on damage reduction penalties too

The sigil explanation is a rather transparent lie; otherwise grenades wouldn’t be the only kit being nerfed.

Theres also a chance they used this opportunity to nerf grenades, while they had an excuse. That seems to make sense considering the 30% drop. A sigil should be worth only like 15% at most.

I was trying to transmute a pirate flag that was out leveled the other day when I noticed this was not possible. This is something that should be able to do with rings and accessories because even though they are not visible to other players, there are a lot of unique and interesting items with cool quotes that will probably go unused throughout the game. Why buy that lvl17 ring when you’ll breeze through those levels in an hour or less? Making these items transmuteable would give players a second look at those awesome items they might have missed, even if it is just for personal taste and not visible for public.

Generell questions about kits, sigils.

in Engineer

Posted by: Penguin.5197

Penguin.5197

Grenades are not fine. Damage-wise, maybe. Mechanical, NO.
- ANet nerfed their projectile speed, but it didn’t change the fact that bomb and flamethrower kit are inferior to it when it comes to close-range damage.

- And they are not inferior because they’re below average. They are inferior because Grenades are scaled up to match standard weapons, despite also being a kit, because they have projectile travel-time, and yet are allowed to be used like a melee weapon.

Because of the above point, Grenades will always stand on top. Whether or not you use them does not stop that fact from looming over other players’ heads.

I know you like your ft and wanna see it become a better weapon, but I disagree with some points. They are inferior for having below average damage, not because grenades are the best.
My first example:
Me with my exotic rifle at lvl80: 3103 attack (Hip shot dmg at 520 every 3/4 of a sec)
Switching to ft: 2,688 attack (1255 dmg total over 2.25 sec including burn)
So my rifle on auto attack does about the same damage (if not more) and I’m not even traited for it plus it has a way longer attack range.

My second example:
I was doing ac the other day and I looked over my hip shot damage which was around 500 something per shot while leveled down. I switched to ft to compare and it did 300 damage..over two seconds.

So my point is that ft needs a damage buff. Grenades should be up to standard weapons like they are right now (theyre fine), but so should ft.

So... Who else will be going Flamechiller?

PvP in general feels slow/defensive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Penguin.5197

Penguin.5197

For a while now I’ve had this feeling that in any game type where you fight others, the game seems to drag out from so many defensive skills. It is hard to explain but take for example a thief, who has so many ways to escape, he can easily get away fights. Or a better example is an (my) engineer. Taking elixir S and tool kit for the gear shield, even if I somehow end up attacked by multiple people in wvw I can still escape easily. use elixir s, followed by gear shield puts me in a good distance away and if my hp drops enough, a second elixir s pops up. I’m sure other people have chains of their own in other classes, and if what they have is not enough, the popular rune of earth will always help out.

Well the point that I am trying to get to is to other people feel this way and wish this game was faster, such as maybe lowering the amount of escape abilities or maybe make offensive skills do more damage, or is it just me who feels this?

Elementalist downed state is so pathetic that there really should be no discussion. The key to your QQ is that you are defending the keep, so the elementalist is simply using the door portal to his/her advantage. Seems like intended gameplay to me (similiar to campers in COD staying in one position to get their KD ratio so kitten high).

Except that you can counter campers with some grenades/flashbangs. There is nothing to stop eles from using mist form and escaping safely all the time. While I usually try to refrain myself from saying a certain skill is op, I gotta say this one is, since with it you are pretty much unkillable near a keep.

Make a new character, engineer in your case (make sure to pick the universal toolpack), and head to the nearest with Black-Lion merchants and banks. Find a white back-piece and transmute it with the toolpack to “un-soulbind” it. Put it in the bank and take it out with the desired character you wish to use it on and do whatever you want with it.

This works fine, I did it two days ago with goggles just fine.

Transmuting to white turns it to bind on account, then you transmute it again onto whatever you want.

Yes it works but most of us are talking about the backpack. (This trick doesn’t work on it since theres no clean white backpacks to transmute to)

My favorate quote of the day is “no grind” … I want to play his version of Guild Wars 2, because in my version, I even have to grind for exotic gear … whether it be for crafting materials, or for coin to buy crafting materials, I still have to grind, and even more so with the drop rate bug.

Go play any f2p game, try to get to lvl100 then come back to guild wars and tell me guild wars has grind.

I used to play a f2p game before, would take like a month to go up one level at the higher level ranges. And only after killing groups of mobs thousands of times.

GuildWars 2 has grind.

I don’t even need to go to another game to tell you that. It has grind, however infinitesimal, and the intent was not to try to make it never be there but to make it within a certain curve where they figured it would work out. It’s pretty clear to me they knew some people were going to perceive various things as grind, or gear treadmills, and bit the bullet to try to keep it in bounds.

Which winds up leaving absolutely everyone open to crucify them for a compromise. Any grind is not no grind and you ‘promised’ no grind. Don’t say you never promised, we have you right here on tape saying that’s your belief. Can’t change your words now, and if you try to clarify what you said or explain it we’ll just take that and tear you apart with it too.

I said it in the other threads – there really was no good way for this to end. No matter what they said today, no matter what they agreed upon or apologized for, it was going to do nothing but be heard any way the listeners wanted to hear. Like in my case, I wanted to hear “we screwed up, and we’re sorry” and that seems to be what I read.

My definition of grind is probably slightly different by yours, but it seems that by your definition every game has grind. From just leveling up in pokemon, racing to get that next car and so on. So to have a “no grind” game how would you have done it (what were your expectations from the manifesto)? The closest I can think of is just to give out everything free to everyone, since working for something seems to be a grind as minimal as it may be.

Sorry! EE was a reference to Medievia / Daedalus. It stood for Evil Empire, which was an alliance of clans which got together to take out the 3 larger clans already existing. Once the other 3 clans started to slowly wittle down, EE collapsed and turned on itself. In that game, that meant people killed you and then took your gear.
