Many of these issues aren’t even bugs, more like just asking for buffs, like someone else said subjective on op’s opinion.
If that’s the worst that warriors have then I might end up finishing lvling mine~!
Even though engineers are usually thought of people with shotguns and smgs in videogames, the engineers in here are different and in gw2 have a very steampunk feel to them. They are in a sort of medieval era, and Their gadgets are not electrical but use various gears, most notable in turrets, to help them out. Engies here are basically steampunk.
Also a notable steampunk character with a sniper: Caitlyn

Hiding would not always make sense, like how could you have a flamethrower without its gas and liquid chambers? What I think would make more sense is different aesthetic options for the backpacks. Like the quaggan backpack, I wouldnt mind using a variation of it to store my fuel
I have always had this idea in my mind but would always forget to post it. Many of these gadgets could be separated into their own category and act like signets (But we would just call them “armor mods”), like with the goggle skills mentioned here. Every hit putting a stack of vulnerability would be an awesome passive and not just another signets that increases stats and falls into something more in line of what an engineer could do.
I remember making a thread about it when it just came out, thinking the same thing. It made absolutely no kitten sense. We get kits, but at the cost of weapon swapping. The slots used are from utility and to make up our utility skills we get tool belt skills. While other classes have their class special as a bonus ours is made to cover up our weakness, its almost like having no class special mechanism at all.
So in the end I would say we don’t really have a mechanic that makes us unique, unless you are playing with 2+kits then we can say our mechanisms are worth it.
Then we still get a damage tax. I really want to ask whoever thought of this idea what the hell was he smoking.
Will super speed (Engie skill) still work though? Its not a speed buff so I’m hoping for a yes
Last night the Fort Aspenwood NERF Krewe mustered a 7-man team to practice our skills and develop our fighting abilities. We had a lot of fun busting heads, learning combos, melting camps, and causing general mischief. Of course we took a screenshot!
That picture put a big grin on my face. Great job people
I admit that the whole sniper concept won’t hit live ever, but I suppose I could dream of that oversized and customized (and maybe stationnary, even encouraged) long range rifle kit that would use an Elite slot, I wouldn’t really care how overpowered or weak it is as long as it remains able to f- sh- up with it, which is the primary role of an Engineer after all.
The fact that it screams ‘sniper’ is simply because of the extended technological abilities we have, it’s industrial, we build machines; weapons, gadgets and drink potions to compensate our lack of supernatural abilities in every area. So, why not this?
Besides there were many debates, everywhere. Most likely Thieves wanted such an ability too because they were assassins blah blah blah and Engineers are clumsy with their guns and stuff blah blah blah.
Also on rangers, because according to them..they are army rangers or something. I have fun reading those threads lol Most likely no one will get sniper skills though unless they make a new type of rifle. Then we all get it.
A game focused around mobility and people are theory-crafting for something that requires little to no movement. If you want to roll sniper, go rifle warrior.
Little to no movement? Why that sounds perfect for our scope trait! Thanks for agreeing for sniper kits!
And the second type, to the right of my characters. Are those gears on the bottom of them wheels?
Usually when moving around cities or maps, we are so focused on getting to our destination that we sometimes forget to check whats around us. Case in point, if you look around and explore a bit in the Black Citadel, you can find a few engineer npcs working on turrets, some of which have very interesting designs currently not available. What does it mean? Can they be our future turrets? Or does it mean nothing at all.
Here are two screenshots of the turrets I have found. If anyone has found other types of turrets elsewhere feel free to share~
Here’s my first one, it has a design not seen before, you can see the turret opened with the engineer working on.
back on topic, If they ever created a sniper kit, it would definitely have to have a 1500 range or less or it would make mortars useless. (Not that they already are).
Could it be a sniper kit was never created in the first place because mortars were meant to do that long distance damage in the first place?
Fine, we will fire rabbits an other small animals with our 1 skill which, due to the weight I our ammo, would cause us to be more mid-long range, and just think of how awesome it’d be to fire a small, angry animal at your enemies from long range, and after the initial hit the small animal begins to attack them?
Our #3 skill could be called “Explosive” rounds, and the next 10 animals fired from our gun will be strapped with explosives an upon triggering the skill again they’d all blow up launching and inflicting vulnerability to everyone hit.
The #2 skill we’d fire a watermelon or “critter food” at the target causing all the fluffy animals we’ve fired from our gun to swarm onto that target wanting blood, and as such they’d cause bleeding on each of their attacks until the critter food wears off.
The #4 skill would be the gillie suit and the #5 would be the reflect.
EDIT: for obvious reasons all the animals fired have experimental rabies from animal testing and would randomly inflict chill, weakness, poison, and confusion, there’d be a max of 10 if them walking around and they’d die in 2 hits (ie each time they take damage it deals 50% of their health)
I approve.
He’s the guy fixing the tanks, not the hero -_-.
You wish, engies are the commando guys running with shotguns, grenades and mines and flamethrowers
Plus Iron Legion engineers were the ones who advanced technology enough to invent the rifles in tyria, it only makes sense that engineers would also be the ones to create sniper rifles
Well said, sir. CLEARLY we’re the sniper class. Warriors with their sub-par intelligence and meat-head impatience would never spend hours analyzing wind patterns and bullet drop diagrams. PUH-lease. Silly bookah…
Clearly we are not. Anet defined us a class that thrives in CQC/Mid-range battles. Notice how our “Rifle” skills work best when in close range much like a shotgun? Or how our Rifle only has 1,000 range(1,200 when traited)? Or how the only Kit that goes beyond our default 1,000 range is the grenade Kit? Or how we’re the only ranged class that is able to equip shields? We were originally designed to be a Heavy Class character since we’re usually fighting in the 100~1,000 range unless you go for grenades.
B-b-but we are Versatile! lol (I cant say that word without laughing)
Devs have never mentioned anything about us being originally a heavy classEven though I agree that we are mostly for mid range, we are versatile enough to have a few long range skills at 1200+ for a sniper kit to be believable. Grenades, traited rifles, mortar, some of out turrets, traited elixir gun, supply crate, heck even magnet is at 1200
I don’t even know how versatility was brought up in the conversation. I was merely stating that there is no way in our current form that we are to be considered snipers, unless you consider throwing grenades at 1,500 range “sniping”.
As for engineers being a heavy class, try looking into some trivias from Anet.
I was thinking versatility, being able to do a wide variety of roles effectively, including long distance. Plus I don’t think any other class beats us in range so far, maybe rangers if they can get around 1700 or 1800 (Mortars double traited when not bugged).

I’ve said this many times in the past. Sniper Kit is not Engineer-y enough.
For god sakes, our HARPOON gun shoots TORPEDOES and MINES! Our Pistols shoot glue, and our Shields have electricity in them.
What about rifles? They shoot pretty standard shots
I got..clerics,soldiers and rampagers and explorers set on my engie, thinking about making a berserkers later. The way I find it, my clerics armor is awesome for supporting my teammates in fractals who aren’t as good and fall more frequently. Soldiers for when I run dungeons and the others for whenever I feel like being more offensive. Don’t regret what you have bought most armors have their uses.

He’s an engineer not a sniper >.> Jesus.
At least he should get some ray gun kit, not an ARMY rifle.
Every class seems to want the sniper rifle, so why not us too!
plus when was the last time you saw an engineer with a ray gun?
I would like to see the sniper kit (or any kit really that is a real kit; not charzooka) in the elite skill slot, and be able to use it as a normal kit. The drawback for it would be that since it could be used anytime its not as strong as other elites, but still stronger than normal kits.
Then I could free up my utility skills for other things I need instead of having a weapon swap there taking up space.
Oh and also it would definitely without a doubt replace mortar.
I see you got all the bases covered in your rifle skills: crippleling, getting away/chasing, range, high sniper damage, stealth, minions, etc.
How about I just lend you my engies rifle skills?
Translation: We acknowledge engineers need more work and we are deeply sorry for taking so long to fix your class.
They just couldn’t say it in a direct way because apologizing to engineers is even more embarrassing than making a post saying they screwed up.
Thieves are easy to counter, here goes:
Against all:
Root/stun
AOEThief is in stealth almost all the time. You can’t target them for root/stun.
Really it’s not that “thieves are unbalanced” it’s that “stealth is unbalanced”, particularly with the way thieves can constantly reapply it.
Give stealth an 8 second cooldown between uses and I think almost all complaints would cease.
TOTALLY AGREE. 8 seconds would probably be enough. No more of this instant re-stealth crap. It makes me wonder if Anet devs watch any of these so-called “pro” videos of thieves stealthing all the time during a fight and how easy it has become for them to decimate groups of players by themselves.
too long now they have this “get out of jail free card” by stealthing all the time. Where is the danger when they can simply disappear. its like they just log off the map. By the time they reappear they are almost out of draw distance range.
I remember before this game came out watching a video of developers talking about stealth saying that they wanted it to be used sparringly not all the time during fights. I wish I could find and link it here because in this case, they completely missed the mark for stealth.
We’ve both been through what kind of hell and raging happened in the Engineer section after the major nerf to grenades. Most people are upset and the forums was out of control already yet Anet did not even give us a single reply. Come on, we just went under a major nerf so we deserve at least a single reply to show us that they’re listening. Then without any sign or clues, all of a sudden our Kits now scale with our weapons and turrets now scale with conditions. We were buffed out of nowhere.
Nah, we knew weapon stats would be added to kits, they had mentioned it along time ago on our forums. Sometime on November I think.
And there have been many outcries, the best we got from it was a mod posting he would be passing along player feedback to devs.
I think they need to bring back Preparations.. imagine the possibilities!
Fire arrows, Poison arrows, Barbed arrows, Ice arrows and even Explosive arrows (imagine long bow skill 5 + exploding arrows)
I believe it would make Rangers a lot more versatile.
For better or for wore, that just sounds like the grenade kit. You wouldn’t want them anyways they’ll just nerf the damage to the ground on it.
If you got time to prepare do this: dodge twice, use elixir r, dodge two more, elixir s, then use magnet shield when it runs out. By then you can probably dodge one more time or if not toss elixir S and hope for stealth. Depending on the situation stability can help too. By then you should have more than skipped any mobs in the way.
Its really useful I do it a lot of the time to skip
Thank you all for your take, but if I may I would like to add a question.
Is there a point in Specing into inventions when healing/supporting in dungeons? Or are there other specs that work better for that? No need to link a spec or anything just wondering what my future options are should I go support.
I find that I can support well when I spec into inventions for healing supporting. Even if throw elixir r is down when I need to revive someone I can usually run in with high healing power, use elixir s and revive someone even if there is immediate danger around me (I can usually bring them up to full health before elixir s runs out). Also I think I have enough healing skills to keep people going so yeah it can be worth it then.
It is so frustrating fighting people in wvw, just nonchalantly doing your magnet pull, net shot and blunderbuss to overcharged shot just to have blunderbuss and o.s. get jammed. No shot comes out, it just reloads, wasting valuable time while the opponent is smacking me down. Usually when I die its because of this…it literally kills me. I know its a facing issue but when trying to knock someone into your zerg/group it is a seriously big issue that happens at least half the time to me.
In one word this is how this issue makes me feel —-> >:(
The mystic forge has many great alternative weapons to those that do not feel like grinding for legendary weapons. However, one weapon type is missing entirely, the rifles. As an engineer, this is very noticeable to me, since my only alternatives are mesmer pistols and shield skins while on the other hand there are so many swords and greatswords to choose from :/
Anything like steampunk looking rifles or even water guns would be awesome!
Here is the list of items for people that do not know about it by the way. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items
Gadgets placed by players (such as turrets) will now apply boons and conditions based on those players’ stats. Those conditions and boons will not be reduced to level-1 values when the triggering gadget is destroyed.
Somehow none of that made sense to me, what exactly would it do to say… a rifle turret?
Let’s gather NERF and the engis from the other servers for some PvE steamrolling for the event \o/
Definitely.
Oddly enough we also wield the best weapons against those toasters, aoes that are made to hit immobile targests
It all makes sense now! Engineers are building their tools using turrets for testing. That’s why the “enemy movement” variable isn’t accounted for! Furthermore, the turrets were never made for actual combat; they are simply for testing purposes! Can’t make them deadly, or else the testing environment would be unsafe.
The two devs who do class balance must be a turreteer and a grenadier/flamethrower. The turreteer goes afk while the other checks out our damage :p
I was pretty sure one dev worked on eles, warriors, and thiefs and guardians while the other works on engies, necros, rangers, and mes
= different opinions about balanced
How much cc do we have? Its only like 3 that immobilize. Netshot, and net turret skills.
Plus you don’t even need to bring stunbreakers, stability will keep you safe. And it has already been nerfed on December 14th… how much worse do you want to make it?
Edit: Ive been in class all day and dont really feel like thinkin,g but if we have more hard cc please tell
SO WHO’S WITH ME?! ORGY TIME ANYWAYS!
Every time is orgy time~
Especially now!
Haha I am laughing pretty hard now, but with your creative language, I am just wondering how long will this thread be kept opened before a mod comes in.
Lets at least hope long enough to give one hurrah~
Here is my engie in se armor with karma shoulders. I hope it’ll help you decide toward making a charr and not otherwise lol
The last time i felt like an engineer was when I discovered how to use combo fields effectively with the use of different kits and turrets. Making 12~15 stacks of might in an instant was really fun and helpful to the team. So is having 10 seconds of invisibility. Sadly, nobody ever cares about combo fields. People are like “Oooh, there’s a circle on the ground. I’ll still use whatever skill is available”. It’s like people treat combo fields just as a bonus and not a real part of the game.
Seriously, I hope they can add something to combo fields so it would be used more often. Maybe they can reinvent the engineer by doing that. Engineers, the master of combo fields.
How many skills do you end up using just to set those combos up? Don’t remember much about those like 12 stacks of might and what not but it just doesn’t seem like the combos are worth the skills being set on cd
Last time I felt like an engineer was unlocking the rocket turret for the first time. For whatever reason the engineer just does not feel like one, its part wanna be alchemist, and part wanna be commando, but refuses to have that engineer feel.
Another thing that adds in for me is that medium armor is lacking in engineer looks and feel, unless you are playing asura.
And the mostly horrible gadgets. So uncreative and straightforward imo. Wheres all the different mine variations? Why does my engie not put on utility goggles when I use them or any visual animation that doesn’t last a quarter of a sec?
I still love my engineer though he has so much potential to unlock
They aren’t zergs, just a bunch of small warband groups! Barely enough to take a supply camp! :P
Score update please! Watching wvw scores is more fun for me than watching sports!
As long as engineers can create a loot bag that is booby trapped when you try to pick it up Ill be okay with mesmers getting it too.
Pros of being a warrior: Easy to play, great damage, better overall looking armor than light and medium classes. So yeah warriors are over used, probably more than half the players in my main guild are warrior mains.
Cool, everyone shouldve gotten an invite now
I’m not gonna try and make this into a recruit thread or the mods will get mad again lol but heres the link for guild ad
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds/Recruiting-for-new-Engineer-themed-guild/first#post1243917
Ok ill stay on topic after this ^^
Yeah whenever more guildies from [NERF] are on it might be fun to do
However as a consolation screenshot (because the mine thing hasn’t been attempted yet) here is four of us dropping big ol bomb simultaneously.
I would love a turret kit, it would give me more of a reason to smack and heal turrets with a wrench, because as it is now, trying to fix your two attacking turrets instead of attacking is not worth the opportunity cost of doing way higher damage attacking directly as opposed to shooting for 300 damage every two seconds. A turret kit would help do more damage at a time and maybe just make healing them worth the effort, more turrets would mean more overall damage. And you could take for the third slot the ever necessary stun breaker skills.
When placed, turrets will start shooting the closest enemy in range, usually picks a target at random if there are multiple enemies but seems to start shooting at the same target you start to tough.
And pick up just means well..uhh basically destroying your current turret so your turret recharge skill recharges 25% faster. Well this games turrets…how can I say this…work quite differently compared to what you are used to in other games so be prepared for that.
And welcome to guild wars 2 then!
facepalm
I’m assuming colin only plays pve and has an easy time hitting predictable targets.
Sure Ill start researching it
