The swoop attack is a 2 part ability. The first part you just run (not a leap), the second part is a leap and that part has to be in the combo field to trigger the combo. It makes this ability a bit harder to use as a leap finisher but I think it is working as intended.
Ascended staves are account bound, and fractal skins can’t be traded, so he hasn’t really committed anything.
That totally slipped my mind, xD I guess it is because I don’t play any classes with staf to transfer over =(. Thanks for the catch.
I am so salty about Druid being last. I love my Ranger, she is in full ascended, with an ascended staff with the fractal skin waiting in anticipation for the skill set, yet I cannot see what it is yet because Ranger is ANet’s least favorite class. I want my elite spec already!
First off, that is some serious dedication to becoming a druid, who knows it might not be your style.
Second, the elite spec isn’t coming any faster or slower than any other class. They all come with the release of HoT. Yes some information on it would be nice however, there is a fairly decent understanding of in general what druid will be. Aspects and glyphs, as found by datamining and CDI’s. It’s only a little while longer till the expansion just got to be patient
Hi I was wondering if there will be changes to the WvW API with the HoT release. Specifically will we be able to see all the information that clicking on an objective will do in game like what tier the objective is at and how long until the next one is reached.
Also, if these changes are coming will they be out before HoT launch? It would be nice for new and existing sites to be able to update their sites for the new borderlands before it is out.

Everyone is complaining that the automatic defenses are to strong for smaller attacking forces, then they want banners to not be taken out of objectives. xD The banners are designed for offense and defense, take a turtle banner to attack a tower that is upgraded and it will get easier.
Also, if the claimed guild doesn’t put upgrades it others are allowed to slot upgrades, this is by design.
I like the idea of making a jumping puzzle worth holding however I don’t think it should affect regular WvW because it is very different from what WvW is. Instead of giving points or helping out WvW maybe something like a server based buff for increased gold or magic find.

have the guild leader deny claiming rights to anyone not on his/her server of choice.
Yes this works if you don’t want them to claim objectives, however the ‘exploit’ I explained you want them to be able to claim. So players that have purchased hot can make a ‘spy’ guild with their main account. Then make a free to play account on other servers that they face inWvW and invite them to the guild. Then the free to play account can claim objectives on an opposing WvW server and slot ‘bad’ upgrades.
If the guild still has rank over others can they unslot an upgrade? Not replacing it with a different one but could for instance a troll guild remove a buff that someone else slotted in?
Interesting question, seeing as there is no benefit for not slotting anything I would assume they could only replace and not just clear it out.
I have a question, what if a guild has 0 upgrades/tactics (a troll guild) and claims your keep, do you just have to wait for it to flip or could a way to trump them exist. Obviously it would only trump if they had more things unlocked but is anything like that being considered?
Already mentioned in the mega thread, if nothing gets slotted other players can fill the slots. The guild that has claimed the objective has the right to override any other player’s choices at any time.
This is an idea we had during development and was cut during investigation due to technical and messaging problems in both of the ways it could be implemented.
- If it worked by consuming the upgrade immediately then you may have spent an upgrade that you not only never got to use, but may have never even started building.This would be a likely case as objectives are not always held long enough to get all the way through every tier.
- If it worked instead by not consuming the upgrade until the tier became available it ran into potential problems with coordination across multiple maps. Because your guild can hold one objective per map your guild could now easily be in a state of reserving more of an upgrade than your guild actually owns.
Ah I though these upgrades were a unlock once use forever. Yes this would make it much harder to use. Thanks for the response it makes more sense now.
The good points don’t need fixing, and the beta test isn’t to make everyone feel good about what’s good. Its about finding bugs and improving on what’s there. Those of us that love the existing WvW have concerns we feel we should share, as they impact our enjoyment of the game. If we don’t enjoy the game, we stop playing. People that stop playing don’t buy expansions or gems to support the game.
In short, we’re sharing concerns, not complaining.
Well the beta is to fix bugs you are correct, map size is not a but and will not change. I’m glad people are concerned and they are expressing it, just a shame they don’t also take the time to show what they like. This helps the devs in the future (this map is mostly set in stone but future maps) know what to keep and what to lose.
You can change them any any time, and I don’t mean you claim it and it fills them in. I mean instead of just a lock in the UI you can select the upgrades you want and they just sit behind the lock.
I also don’t like limitations on small / personal guilds to be unable to put up even a +5 supply buff. This is very bad as it further negates their contributions to the server as a whole and promotes even more blobbiness.
First off, the old buffs are going to remain in the game and will switch over to a more permanent fell rather than time based.
Second, why won’t small guild be able to contribute to the server? They can do the same that a larger guild can do (guild claiming wise).

So right now to get the Guild Upgrades as fast as possible you have to camp the upgrade screen and wait for them to unlock before you can pick them. This makes it so you have to devote some unnecessary attention to the upgrade timer. Instead it would be nice if on claim you could pick your upgrades to slot in so when the specific tier unlocks it immediately starts to do the 3min place the upgrade timer. This will not cause any upgrades being available earlier then the current way it’s just a little easier with less management.
I would love to play it! Unfortunately I did not get invited this time. Will there be another before release?
My biggest concern is that this can enable free to play accounts to exploit guild calming. The current in place prevention is the guild has to have a guild hall, and the idea is that guilds would only invite players that they trusted and only full accounts can make their own guild with a guild hall. The problem comes in when the free to play account joins a guild that WvW’s on another server that has players with HoT. Now can they claim objectives in the server they are on and fill them with ‘unwanted’ upgrades and prevent activation of tactics.
Either way defiantly something that ArenaNet needs to look at a bit, hopefully before release and any possible exploits get exploited.

I think they plan on revamping the old maps (alpine borderland) once HoT comes out and then bringing them back in some way. I would assume they will change the old maps to be more in line with how the new ones work including some small map adjustments and redesign.
This would make the new legendary gear less appealing, and less unique. I would assume it won’t be changing.
I’m a huge fan on GW2, been playing since pre-release. I would take my girlfriend with me she plays lots of GW2 as well. Neither of us have attended a gaming event like PAX, E3, Twitch Con but have always wanted to. We are hyped for HoT and can’t wait.
Quick question for a developer or a beta tester to answer, since guilds are not server based can a guild have objectives claimed on two different servers? Meaning, can Jade Quarry and Yaks Bend have a guild that claims a supply camp for both servers?
Also if that is possible then can a player make a guild with their main account then invite a free to play account from another server to join. This could be used as a way to get around the only guilds with a guild hall can claim objectives. This would effectively allow for Free to Play accounts to work as a spy much easier.
I think they will have one more beta for the map but how open it will be is still in the air. I think what azizul was hinting at was that people won’t pre order HoT because they like the new WvW map because you can play in with the core game.

With the turtle banner, the skill 3 apply invulnerability to 10 people around you on 15sec cd.
But if you take the banner, press3, drop it, then an ally take it , press 3, drop it ect..
You can stack invulnerability if you hav at least 3 people.
Maybe make an ICD on the banner skills.

If I remember the actual reason for ‘hiding’ the names was because in real battles you don’t know the names of your enemies.
Could be because the beta has not started yet.

Not sure if this is only ranger specific but when I’m using traps sometimes when a trap goes off it causes my game sound to stop working. Normally I would just play without sound however, when this bug occurs my frame rate starts to slowly drop and after a min or two the game is unplayable. It’s fairly rare and if I knew how to recreate it I would give that information but I haven’t been successful yet.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Just a reminder, if you want to see these new upgrades in action check out some of the people streaming the 3rd Desert Borderlands Stress Test as they will be live for the duration of the event.
Also something that isn’t upgrade related but what announced in the PoI, all sentry’s have the same effect as the Spy Balloons do. Nice to see that sentry’s are actually kinda scouts now, however it seems easy to counter that by sending one player ahead of the zerg to take it. Will slow down the zerg though.
For those that missed the Points of Interest on these here it is:
If you see them build an ac in an open field fight just run away from it… if you are winning then you can push to it and kill the operator. Don’t see why people are always complaining about it when it’s easy to just run away from it or push and kill it.
On page 3 bumping for visibility so dev’s can see.
Revamp the glicko system.
What needs to be changed with it? For the most part servers of similar coverage are facing each other.

I don’t mind challenging, but I’d hoped it’d been scaled back a bit for this beta weekend (and eventual release).
If they scale it down it will no longer be challenging, it is difficult as intended, you are going to dye as intended. Once you learn how different mobs work and tweak your build to your weakness I’m sure these mobs will not kill you as often.
We deserve to be bitter, we have been made promise after promise and they never follow through.
Do you have a few examples because as far as I have seen, when they say they are bringing something or changing something they do it.
Greatly rewards offhours coverage, turtling and siege spam.
Guild arenas cant come fast enough.
Apart from the time it takes to unlock your guild hall and upgrade to get the arena, both these changes come at the same time.
I would agree a bit that having a team that can decap objectives while the other servers are offline is a bit more advantageous now.
A few points on anti-griefing measures for guild claiming:
- Guilds without Guild Halls will not be able to claim objectives.
AHAHHAAHAHAHAAH
Why don’t you just say “If you don’t buy HoT we’ll remove most if not all of your advantages making Gw2 WvW semi-P2W”

Last I checked you don’t have to buy the expansion to join a guild. You can join a guild that has a member that purchased HoT and still be able to use this feature. This is in place to prevent F2P accounts form making their own guild to troll and claim objectives to use un-ideal upgrades.
If they would work with us and run things by us and actually listen to our constructive feedback you would see a lot less complaining.
Not saying this is always true but, some of the changes that are coming with the guild upgrade system and changes players have been asking for a lot. Yet we still see lots of people saying they don’t like these new changes and it will destroy WvW and so on without even trying. The problem with the golem event is people take the game too seriously sometimes, chill and enjoy the one week event it’s just a game after all. I do agree that the Glicko ratings should not have changed from that event but it was just one week of messed up Glicko. It is not just the players or just ArenaNet both sides are a bit at fault but aren’t trying to help the other. ArenaNet tries to change things up a bit but gets lots of complaints from the players, in turn players suggest things to change it up and they just hesitate because of previous flak.
The “LoS nerf” to arrowcarts is a fable. It did nothing.
If you have actually been keeping up with the changes to arrowcarts you would know the true line of sight changes haven’t come through yet.
Good news, now that the game in free to play you can download it and try it out! I’m assuming that if it can run the core GW2 it can run HoT
So what? Group aoes you for a bit, you back off, and then you get back on it. They build siege to take it out, you get on another piece of siege, they have to run over there and build siege to take it out, repeat cycle.
So, you want to be able to destroy the siege so you can afk while the door get’s knocked down? This is what attacking and defending need more of, some interactive gameplay that goes on while the wait for a door or wall gets knocked down.
So, you want to be able to afk in a structure and never worry about it being taken, let alone attacked? I’m not saying remove siege, I’m saying don’t make it faceroll. How about a claim buff that makes siege is more tanky, how about while manning siege you get increased dmg resistance and stability, how about a remote operate area that lets you man the siege without being right on it, and so on.
Um…. you just said the defender would have to back off and switch siege. That isn’t afking that is actively defending.
Also in another thread in the Desert Borderlands Stress Test section of the forum a dev mentioned that this test was actually mainly for testing of these new Guild Claiming Upgrades so we get to see them in action very soon

i’m not saying that there are no ways to counter it, but i think the guildbuffs should be just a small extra reward, but i feel like these upgrades are out of proportion. WvW guilds are all about teamwork, being a significant threat with small numbers. No mindless blobguilds/serverguilds that get extra important because they can trigger these buffs
These buff is no way need a zerg to ‘trigger’ them. You can have a simple small guild (I would guess even a 1 man guild) and have these upgrades. Yes having more numbers in your guild will allow you to claim an objective easier however you can only claim one per map.
Also I believe the old buffs will still be in and no longer time based but permanent once unlocked, at least that is how I read the first big guild article that talked about guild claiming. They could have been refering to these new ‘buffs’ though as once unlocked it looks like they stay unlocked.
Unclaiming would be nice and some sort of auto-unclaim would be nice if a guild wasn’t using any buff. I don’t think there should be a vote because then if your guild wants buffs for a specific reason but the server blob or main guild wants something else they will just kick your guild out even though you were using it as intended.
Few things on the list were ideas that been floating around the forums in the past.
I know the no player damage to cannons and oil and no player damage to doors were suggested on the forums a while back not sure about the rest.
Also how is roaming dead? Maybe you have a different opinion of roaming than I do but the banners seem good for 5 to 10 man roaming groups to help with fights, and they will be able to defend much better now waiting for reinforcements. If you are talking about 1-5 man roaming I don’t see much that will affect that.

They mentioned that it was invite only again and to check you e-mail for and invite, however when they will be sending or if they have sent the invites is unclear. They could send an e-mail to all preorders but it is unlikely.

makes it impossible for weaker servers to counter the stronger servers by depleting their sups-hardened gates
creating an invulnerable wall and gate is just ridiculous, no further information required-hardened siege
Cannons can insta kill balli+AC only way to counter then is by making a treb in the distance-> really slow playstyle and requires alot of sups per objective. this will make it harder for striketeams and low populated servers to cap towers-emergency waypoint
endless keep/castle fights can be the most exciting experience in WvW. opening a WP for a period of time, no matter wether the keep gets contested or not will result in the assaulter getting rekt while having even numbers and only possible to cap if you heavily outnumber the enemy.Also the Banners are questionable, i personally just really dislike unfair advantages in open field fights.
There is a cooldown on the dolyaks so not every one is invulnerable and you have to use a active spot for it and some of the other ones are nicer, in my opinion.
Hardened Gates, I think you mean Invulnerable Fortifications, is only temporary (probably no more than 30 sec) with a long cooldown.
Hardened Seige, there are other counters including just attacking the player on the siege which is has always been quicker than destroying the siege. Now you just have to keep a few players putting down aoe’s to keep them from getting used or kill them with siege.
Waypoint does seem strong, maybe they should limit it to only so many players can come through it, like Mesmer portal. But with a long cooldown this can be played around with feint attacks.
Jarixx and Rampage, you mind explaining why you feel this way? Just saying this is a troll accomplishes nothing and clearly it is not. I’m sorry you feel that WvW is only about open world fights as well, it is about more that just that.

Look, I understand what you are trying to do, and I think most of these upgrades sound kind of fun, but I strongly disagree with upgrades such as the Dune Roller. I don’t want open field battles to revolve around players getting insane buffs that will allow them to steamroll other players.
Looks like they only give the banner or transformation to one person on a decent cooldown, so don’t expect to see full zergs of transformed players like in EotM.
Regarding the banners in open field fights, I think these will be awesome for commanders. Most of their ability seem to be support based or zone control, also the breakerbar or whatever will help them stay on their feet when pushing. It will depend on how much damage the abilities do or heal that will determine how strong they are. Unfortunate downside, expect to be focused if you are holding the banner so maybe better not on the commander because if he dies you lose leader and banner (depending on banner mechanics).
