I think they will eventually hit the Hornet Sting + Monarch’s Leap combo in a similair way to how they hit Ride the Lightning (or maybe have it require a target). It isn’t intended to be an escape skill used in this manner, especially given how far you can get on it and how short the cooldown is.
Pre-nerf RTL had a 1550 range. Traited ranger longbow at 1500 range is the longest range weapon in the game. So you could use RTL to disengage from anyone with a single push of a button.
Post-nerf RTL has 1200 range. HS+ML have 600+600 range, so they’re already the same as nerfed RTL in terms of escape capability. The whole spin to use thing is clumsy too – in the tests I did it was barely faster than just running straight. It works much better if you don’t have to spin (start off with a target and use HS, click ground to lose target and use ML). But either way is much more involved than the one-click escape that RTL was.
The combo of HS+ML + switch to GS + Swoop does get you past the 1500 range. But now you’re talking about having to commit to two specific weapons, plus use a minimum of 5 key/button presses to pull it off.
Fixing RTL to 1,200 should had been done but i never will agree it should had been nerfed past its old 15 secs CD.

Interesting from a balance standpoint. My first thoughts were:
The pet damage nerf did nothing to accomplish its goal. It seems in small skirmish fights the ranger can still regenerate more damage then can be dealt by a single player. Thus, while their healings go into cool down the ranger has a nearly infinite source of regeneration. The ranger wins or at least escapes every time. Its a war of attrition that the ranger wins. So the bunker build is untouched by the nerf. The power builds however…
Maybe the rangers regeneration needs to be looked at and hit. Its the troll ugent, (I think) the evasion in the melee attacks and the boon duration armor combo that’s unbalancing this build. (at least in a small team spvp type setting) Well that and players were doing stupid things.
BM Ranger never needed a nerf and doesn’t need one now.

I’ll sum up the video for you. He uses Swoop, Hornet Sting and Monarch’s Leap. A lot. There are a few fights in there but at least half of it is Hornet Sting and Monarch’s Leap.
And yeah, they didn’t touch survivability in the last patch, they just reduced pet DPS. They didn’t seem to target BM rangers specifically, jut pets in general. The regeneration is the same as always (but most classes can build for survivability when roaming).
I wouldn’t say this build is imbalanced. The people he is fighting are WvW players, one of them even had a karma booster. You don’t use karma boosters unless you plan on running with the zerg. You’ll also notice if a fight ever goes south, he just uses Hornet Sting followed by Monarch’s Leap. It’s like a P/D thief. They will win the fight of attrition because they are built to survive and they are usually picking on zerg builds. If they are ever in danger, they just stealth out and re-engage when they are safe again. Regeneration like this is only a problem when you have the tools to exit and enter combat whenever you need it. It’s why Ride the Lightning was nerfed and it’s why most zergs will just ignore a P/D thief (even Izzy said on the WvW stream that fighting a P/D thief is a waste of time). The ranger is still able to DPS (even if it’s less than before) while running around in circles cycling leap skills and blocks because occasionally the pet will get a hit in.
A lot of ppl had random buffs due to the kite’s drops that give you random buffs.
I’ll admit I had not considered the Necros and their condi builds. I don’t believe I saw a fight with one of them in that video, although I may be mistaken. Also to clarify it isn’t a broad hit to regeneration in power (that would be lazy) but maybe a cap in duration. It looks as though the regeneration is outlasting the recharge. Although I could be mistaken. And given that I believe that I’ve read that they want damage to out do healing this would go against that meta. Now this isn’t what I WANT to see happen but as I work in the video game industry these are my impartial observations and first thoughts. Its more what I expect the overall thinking and approach to be. Now I concede that because I didn’t consider a powerful condition counter that this observation may be a moot point.
The build is not “unkillable”, it relies a lot on proper dodging not just spamming abilities off cooldowns. ATM any decent Necro/Engi condi build will kill any bunker in the meta without a problem.

It does do this with the Missile Reflect Trait, highly recommended with Mace/shield.
Im aware, but i wish it would do it without it.

What bothers me most is not that he said that Rangers are OP,its not that he say kittens for everyone that plays Ranger in sPvP(in some point he says,“wanna play Ranger,press 1”) its that hes so immature that he dont have the kittens to support it with value arguments..He just drop something in the air just because he dont understand it…..My little friend you got 15 stacks of bleed cause the pet used his F2 attack,that lynx that you dont know what he does,well he has a leap with 1,5 sec cast time,that you didnt bother to dodge…oh and bleeds from pet do half dmg…..NOOB

I play sPvP once in a while. When i play with some of my friends we usually kitten around and win pretty much 4/5 matches. But once in a while one of my friends who only does spvp invites me to fill in a spot in his high ranking team and ill play whatever they need, home point bunker, dps roamer, ect. We usually face some of “pro” teams and to me i see nothing special. Sure they are way better than those random pugs buy not better than the good players ive fought. If i play home point they need to send 2+ ppl to kill me. Ive fought power/zoose/ostricheggs ect and never lost to them 1v1 so i dont know why some of the people in the pro teams feel they can say what needs nerfing.

Well, on the plus side, they can’t make spirits any more kitten than they are so we might as well have them as a balance dev lightning rod for the class.
Me thinks you underestimate ANET . Yes, they absolutely have the ability to kitten up spirits.

It only happens on stacked servers with super zergs on all the time. That’s what you get for bandwagoning and all jumping onto the “higher tier” servers. We get no lag EVER or any queue times, unless we’re unfortunate enough to go up against one of the mega zergs. Lags as soon as their 100 man blob comes near us all at once in a sea of red.

Every class does more damage in melee than at range so it won’t be changed for Rangers. You keep saying due to the problem of LB arrows missing it should do more damage but you should be asking is fixing LB issues not increasing its damage.

Longbow has slow arrows against moving enemies, obstruction, terrible maneuverability and adds zero to survivability. On top of that, in order to do max dps, you need to be in 1200+ range. At 1200+ range, you are not able to buff other teammates or receive their buffs.
I suggest that Longbow at max range deals a higher dps than MH sword. With this, Longbow will be more balanced that way. After all, MH sword has tons of maneuverability and survivability.

This is not entirely true. If your in melee range against a class not spec’d for it, not carrying a melee weapon, or they just aren’t built for damage; your really in no danger at all. You in fact have a major advantage.
On the other hand, if your carrying a ranged weapon that still fires slow enough for people to easily side step, it should in fact, do far more damage. If the longbow actually was made to hit similar to the rifle, then I can understand it doing less damage than melee.
The problem with LB is the Arrow mechanics now the damage.
If the enemy has a range weapon and you are in melee and they CC you then you are doing 0 damage while with arange weapon you can still do damage.

Not always. There are far more moves to punish ranged attackers than there are to punish melee. And if you only have that higher damage at max range, all an opponent needs to do is to close with you and force you into melee and negate that extra damage. That gives them a reason to deal with you in melee instead of just ignoring you.
What moves punish range players that doesn’t punish melee? You are basically asking for a weapon to do melee dps at range and then having the option to do melee dps with a melee weapon at a push of a button.

While Rangers aren’t super great at a lot of things (Dungeons for example) and Zerg Fights for utility, We absolutely are one of the best solo classes in the game..

I don’t think any build is good with full celestial, basically this is how you use Celestial. When you make a hybrid build if you want to make use of every stat add Celestial until you reach a number you want on a stats, then start using certain gear types.
Example on my Ele i use 5 Celestial Trinkets, Cavalier Backpiece, 2 Cleric Daggers, 6 Knight Armor.

While I think the dps calculation of the spreadsheet is not that useful, there are many cast times disclosed in it. I don’t know how accurate they are though, and while it seems quite up to date, I believe many aftercast times are missing.

I wouldn’t take bolas, too unreliable at more than 300 units it seems, bull rush seems more reliable to close the gap quickly if you need to.
I like to imagine how disgusting this kind of build would be if Bull Charge was considered a stun. But I guess you’d still have to deal with the weird pathing issues.
I use it to catch up to ppl, it has it uses in duels i guess but nothing too great due to the CD.

Quick question: Does ‘Destruction of the Empowerment’ pay out very well? Because some of your counterparts didnt have that much boons. Whats your opinion on ‘Mobile Strikes’? Wouldnt it add even more survivability to your build?

Making it a master tier was a great choice as it was useless being a grandmaster. Sure not every enemies has boons but tanky players tend to have some so you kill them quicker. Mobile strikes arent needed due to 98% reduction to condition CC but you can get hit by an imob as you use WW or rush buts its so rare thakittens not worth it. I havent put much thought on what to take over destruction of the empowered but 25% movement speed might be nice for the time your swiftness is gone.

Not a bad video, but the build isn’t new (not sure if you thought it was). I know I have used it (but sometimes replace signet mastery with the new warrior’s sprint) and usually signet of stamina and endure pain with balanced stance instead of what you have. I have only used mine in sPvP though, and generally use valkyrie (sometimes berserkers) with it.
Didnt claim it was new. Mace stun with GS was being used back since beta. The extra second on skulk crack just made it much better though.

if you scroll down a bit there’s a few threads already on this topic.
Solution is full melee + reflects. Make sure you have high dps team. This isn’t pug friendly unless you want to be class specific and specify that you want zerkers. Guardian reflects+mesmer reflects will do you fine, and ele with swirling winds to pop at start and end is also nice, rest can be glass cannon warriors. Trick is to stand inside the tree and inside the guardian’s walls/shields. Make sure your whole party commits to melee at the start, dont dilly dally around with the spiders. Ignore them and just focus down the tree. Be careful to wait for the tree to do his one shot life steal before entering.
