Rifles are the least useful weapon choice for warriors. They require your target to be clueless and incapable of dodging, simply put. Kill shot has such a long cast time and is so easily avoided that it’s even less effective than an ele’s churning earth on earth dagger 5 is, tbh.

It’s certainly a lot more useful in WvW and that’s generally what I’m concentrating on, but it’s still almost always better to use longbow simply for the utility.

As far as PvE is concerned, you shouldn’t feel inclined to use rifle unless you’re killing Vahid (Melandru) on Arah P4. It’s just… bad.

fk open world… the more people there, the harder everything is. does that make sense? having allies/teammates should mean the opposite tbh, but i feel encouraged to try to get as far away from people as possible.

Everything hates me when I play with pugs, be it on warrior or ele. It just so happens that ele has half the hp and no healing signet, so getting manhandled by mobs is to be expected.

In all seriousness, I think many people might be used to joining someone else’s group and seek to stay in their comfort zones. Taking initiative and forming your own group might be perceived as effort that the average person isn’t willing to put forth as they’d rather someone else be responsible for it.

As a warrior, I feel OP as hell when I go underwater in WvW lol. I kinda like it, cause people do so little underwater combat that most people don’t even know what their weapon skills are and get absolutely demolished if they follow me in. :>

Also, I run a PVT guardian in fractals, and never have any issues. In fact, recently I’ve come close to soloing the first half of the Molten boss fractal fight purely because I can take hits compared to squishy gnats wearing zerker. It was a terrifying experience for sure, those fire fields are not friendly.

Are you insinuating that it’s bad to go full DPS? Definitely seems so. FotM is probably one of the worst places to use PVT. At higher levels, mobs deal a very high amount of damage no matter what; prolonging encounters doesn’t help the team (your reflects will hit less because of the gear you’re wearing…).

I feel the need to chime in because of the snide remark about people using berserker gear. People screw up and people will die on this game quite often, but hopefully people will learn from their mistakes and improve to the point of being able to avoid them happening in the future. You obviously make them too if you “can take hits.”

I was irritated when I bought all vigil armors today on my ele. I wanted to salvage them, but could not. RIP 18g. Oh well, not like it phased me much other than the principle of the matter.

Especially for FotM, it’s the worst place you can think of to ever ever use vitality/toughness attributes. With 1-shot mechanics, the attributes do almost nothing to help you survive while at the same time drastically reducing the damage you inflict (by not having precision/ferocity), and making the fight take longer. Also, having PVT would be making super useful foods like omnom pies/candied dragon rolls (lifesteal on crit) not work much.

Think about it realistically — none of us are perfect players, so doesn’t it seem reasonable to assume that the longer an encounter is, the more opportunity there is for you to make mistakes? With 1-shot mechanics, that means death.

In short, always use DPS builds/gear. Get berserker.

Running after Elementalists… well, you can pretty much forget about it. Not to mention the heals.

Knockback Engis are annoying because they just keep on knocking you back over and over and over (which isn’t really painful, just endlessly annoying).

Bunker specs because I don’t particularly enjoy beating on the same target for minutes in a row. They’re boring and tedious fights.

This post makes me feel awkward. Mesmers and necros are the SLOWEST classes with the least mobility in the game… so if they’re on the run it’s hilariously easy to beat them down.

Also, elementalists being too hard to catch… sorry but WHAT? Either equip a GS or a sword with warhorn and you’ll never feel that way again. They have no practical movement skills other than RTL and lightning flash and those both have pretty long cooldowns. Aside from those two, all they can do is try to barrage you with movement impairing conditions which are certainly easy to deal with.

It’s kind of odd to see someone complaining about not being able to catch someone with a warrior… o_O

God no. I wouldn’t even want to play anymore if that happened to forceful greatsword… what on earth? There’s nothing wrong with people using 65003. It’s not even the absolute best for DPS — 66002 is. The times that you want 65003 are when you need fast hands or if you prefer more fluid gameplay.

Your suggestion would murder GS, ugh. Axe doesn’t need more of a buff, as it’s already the best autoattack weapon for a warrior. Mace MH is niche and I agree it’s crap in PvE, but it still wouldn’t be worth using unless it dealt the most damage. It does have an extra block, but sword OH’s block is so much more reliable and easier to work with that it’s basically always better to work with that instead. There’s not many situations in this game in which you’d really need more than sword OH’s block unless you’re practicing soloing some pretty obscure stuff. Is that what you had in mind?

Other than that, you simply want the best damage so unless mace were to get buffed to deal more over time than axe, it still wouldn’t replace it :P

Signet of rage cd = 60 seconds, signet mastery = 20% reduction => 48 second cd

FGJ cd = 25 seconds

Signet of rage = 30 seconds of fury, FGJ = 8 seconds of fury

Provided you used FGJ first and then SoR right when the fury from FGJ wore off, the cd from FGJ will be off before the fury from SoR ends, and then 8 seconds later the cd for SoR would be off. That’s 8 seconds without fury in the first minute.

While it’s true that you aren’t ever permanently under the effect of fury, you have roughly 90% uptime with signet mastery and FGJ. Do you really think that a warrior needs increased fury duration?

Two scenarios I can think of would be 1) not having signet mastery (~70-80% fury uptime) and 2) using a warbanner.

Even if you don’t have signet mastery, an elementalist should basically always be there anyways so that doesn’t seem practical and is more of a niche situation for Rage runes to be viable. You’d be incredibly inefficient to use these unless you were using warbanner and didn’t have an ele on the team with persisting flames… that’s basically it.

EDIT: By comparison to scholar and strength, they’re pretty terrible. Scholar runes aren’t even that expensive… at ~3ish gold each. It’s like 20g for a set, that’s totally worth paying for instead of using Rage runes… :P

Aside from Arah, which dungeons do I run over and over again to be able to solo?

I still have the videos of my first times soloing CM p1 and p3 pre-patch with my warrior, and I even admitted in stream chat I wasn’t sure where to go or what to do at one or some of the parts, so that kind of means your wise-alec comment towards me and anyone that loves to set arbitrary challenges for themselves is false. It took me longer the first time to solo it than the second, sure. What reason does that give you to try to demean my choice of activity with this uncalled for sarcasm? Considering I don’t even have the option to flame you or kick you from my party during a solo, makes no sense to me.

There’s nothing wrong with having fun in challenge.

This answer was mainly the reason why I asked that if you couldn’t have posted your poll in the forums instead as, from an observer’s perspective, the answers themselves don’t mean much unless you know what the original choices were.
Now, not everyone clicks random links and, bearing that in mind, should your poll ever be taken down, all that’s left are meaningless numbers and that doesn’t make for a good read, let alone something that anyone could take part in.

It’s a valid point, I don’t disagree with you. From personal experience, all polls that I’ve made in the past month are still up and the website is pretty reliable without immediately deleting them so the issue of that happening is pretty much non-existent. For what it’s worth, the poll will more than likely satisfy my curiosity at some point long before the poll will be removed when it inevitably happens.

Thieves are never trouble for me in WvW unless they aren’t alone or jump on me when I’m already low hp. Otherwise, they’re usually easy to deal with.

As far as 1v1 is concerned, skilled mesmers certainly are the most deadly.

Meanwhile, in the land of 4-swarm spawns at Lupicus 24-7…

@lakdav – They are pretty hardcore, yeah. By far the least understood class and probably one of, if not the most difficult of classes to play well with.

Engineers can and often are pretty awesome, but they sadly aren’t able to outperform other classes in optimal conditions to make a place in a speedclear. For pugging they’re actually pretty awesome from what I gather (and am told), and I admit that I don’t know enough about them yet to come up with instructions on how to be a casual engi

I felt the need to list it as an option because I wanted to provide more of a variety with options to choose from. Because I also livestream a lot and occasionally check to see what other channels / videos are displayed on the page for GW2, I also am aware of seemingly how many people are into PvP and WvW and why it’d be important to include these aspects of the game in the poll options.

How to casual:

First, equip gear with either toughness, vitality, healing power, or multiples of each and go pug dungeons. Be sure never to use nourishment unless it boosts magic find.

If you’re on a warrior, be sure to rifle things as much as possible with a dolyak signet.

If you’re on a guardian, camp the living daylights out of that staff and equip 3 shouts at all times no exceptions.

If you’re on a mesmer, GS all day with no feedback, temporal curtain or time warp under any condition.

If you’re on a ranger, bear + bow. Always.

If you’re on an elementalist, ensure that you’re in celestial and camp staff for everything. Stacking might is for zerk noobs; camp dat water attunement and spam dem water fields. Spider queen is simply too dangerous and your allies require it.

If you’re on a necromancer, you’re already doing a good job.

If you’re on a thief, p/p without ever taking initiative to SR or blast smokescreen to save time by skipping past mobs.

It seems a bit silly to start by asking a question, link to an external poll and then expect people to post back with the reasoning behind their choice – you could’ve had your results in one easy to follow thread minus all the meandering about.

There’s so many other bosses in the game that you can fight and so many more achievements to obtain. Whether this was instanced or not, you’d still complain as long as it had achievements and rewards.

If you want to pick whatever tends to have the most fluid gameplay, use the old meta with strength runes. I either am going 6/6/0/0/2 or 6/5/0/0/3. I cba with 6/6/0/2/0; I feel so incredibly weak with it and I’d only use it if I was in a 5-man real speedclear.

Yeah but not in a solo. I did it in pugs before and it’s fine, but I’d imagine it’d suck to be alone doing it with axe AA. It’s only the turret near the aboms that needs to go anyways.

Yeah, he was the only person besides me and 1 other to not spawn grub on Lupicus and die to phase 2 aoe I think but I think I ended up getting bubbled and died when another person in the team did vengeance and made him move xD

Despite it being optional, “pointless”, and a waste of time, this was by far the most fun I’ve had in a long time and I can’t recall any combat I’ve taken part in more fun than this lmao.

Btw, I learned recently that sometimes when he charges into the wall there’s a chance he bugs and gets a speed buff that increases his movement by 100%, and in even rarer cases he’s had a 100% dmg buff too… so weird.

Not to mention… the Korga hole.

In a duo? Nah because then you have to wait for it’s cooldown before fighting Lupicus. In a solo, sure because by the time the two aboms are dead the cooldown shouldn’t be too far from over and will roughly equate to the time you would have spent using longbow on em anyways.

I think I’ve found the root cause of this zerker hate.

For about 1yr I’ve been posting something along the lines of “p1 experienced zerks only” and just going with whoever I get after maybe kicking one or two PVT leechers. 30% of the people who join my LFG are NOT zerks and are there hoping for an easy carry. 20% of the people are zerks but have a horrible build/utilities/weapons. 40% just don’t know how to play their class efficiently nor how to handle themselves when things don’t go as planned. This resulted in 90% of my “zerks only” pug runs being a total mess. In the end people just remember the horrible experience they gotten from a supposedly “elite zerk speedclear” run and blame it all on the zerks/elitist.

Once I started actually checking everyone who enters and promptly kicking anyone who isn’t running proper gear, dps build, or appropriate weapons & utilities I found that now majority of my pug runs started to actually be GOOD. At the end of such run everyone always says something like “only if all my runs were like this…” before leaving.

Zerk hate comes from people joining “zerks only” runs where majority of party members just can’t handle the meta, and then when kitten hits the fan they simply resort to blaming/hating the “zerks” and not seeing that they themselves are the real problem.

Try to reason with them and if they refuse, then either kick or leave yourself. That’s what I normally do. It’s less painful than going through the dungeon with them, and more ethical than making them leave on their own.

In my opinion there’s no point in sugarcoating anything. Either tell it how it is, or don’t tell anything at all. They can either cooperate and learn how to play better, or they won’t.

I would tell them to seek out and learn how to play full-out DPS if they want to learn how to improve and if they aren’t interested then tbh, I just wouldn’t bother.

And guess, there is nothing wrong with a greatsword build mesmer, a bow ranger, or anything similar. I use both of them and have been very effective. Yes, me not noticing those tells was a matter of inexperience, but stop bashing builds because they aren’t yours, its just arrogant.

That’s subjective. To me, there’s something wrong with the choice when it’s noticeably worse than something else. Hand-to-hand combat is generally always the superior choice for damage output when you play games online as it usually means application of the concept of “risk vs reward” if you’ve ever heard of it. You “risk” by making yourself more vulnerable and open to a direct close-range attack yet are rewarded with more damage with your own attacks. The use of berserker gear/DPS builds is a prime example of it as well. You learn how to play better and are rewarded with being able to do things much quicker and more efficiently.

GS mesmers and longbow rangers deal way less damage than what is ideal, which is why we’re saying they’re horrible. In no way are they capable of outperforming the meta for their classes and/or anything very similar, so if that’s what you feel like sticking with then have fun wiping over and over again on the easiest dungeon in the entire game with a full party… doesn’t sound like fun to me but each to his/her own.

Quite a dramatic post. Your team was awful, sounds like. It’s possible to AFK autoattack solo the spider queen, let alone burst it down with a group. There’s no excuse to have that much trouble on it; you and your teammates are inexperienced and have a lot to learn. It’s normal to be frustrated but excusing yourself and claiming the design of the dungeon is poor when you evidently know nothing about it is pretty close-minded of you.

Despite the fact that I do think that dungeon is very poorly done along with many of the other ones, I can’t take you seriously when you bash the design of it just because you couldn’t do it as a newcomer lol. To me that roughly translates to “I don’t care to learn how to play better and I want the game to cater to me.”

On another note… in regards to what you described as your party composition…

GS mesmer deals horrible damage in PvE and because of it, mesmers camping it are some of the most obnoxious teammates to have, right up there with a rifle warrior, a p/p thief, staff guardian, or bearbow ranger.

To be honest, I think rifle warriors p___ me off the most though mainly because it’s the class I’m pretty much always on and know the most about. Every time I see a warrior using rifle in PvE, I immediately feel irritated. I can’t help it. There’s just no kitten excuse — it’s terrible.

Speaking of those orrian turrets, my friend Goku showed me a tactic for them that works very well in our Arah P4 duos; he takes shield OH and uses defiant stance, tanking it so that I can quickly take it down with hundred blades/axe autoattacks. Works quite well!

If an elite risen is aggroed we just pop a harpy feather + both spykits. If the NPC stays alive and keeps them aggroed, we either have no choice but to kill it or wipe… worth the risk imo because it’s much faster than both sidestrafe ranging.

I’d move on to either another game or call it an end to MMORPG gaming. Not interested in hitting low damage when I engage in combat on any game.

Even on a warrior, why the hell would you autoattack spider queen? Why not just… 100b + WWA? That is, if it’s not dead before the 100b chain is even completed.
