Arah P4 Solo (except Simin)

Hey, this was my first attempt at soloing Arah P4. I wanted to try to solo Simin myself because I was told numerous times it wasn’t possible and yeah, it isn’t. I did everything else though. I’ll try again to see how fast I could do it but I figured I would highlight the parts to show how I was able to.

I must credit Joey the creator for the idea of luring the gorillas away for Melandru, thanks for that

Read the comments I put under the vid for each for a brief description or explanation. I really am not happy about the sloppy Lyssa kill but I wasn’t sure what to try; the elite illusion that did whirling axe kicked my kitten so sword offhand wouldn’t have helped. I think I could do that one a lot faster.

Also Randall is an kitten . He kept tanking Lupicus’s AoE on phase 2 and he caused a bubble to get me killed at one point lol… he’s almost as bad as Varra Skylark, horrible AI.

Anyways, that’s all. If you want to see the full raw footage here it is.

Better than pinging your BoD twice at the start of a fractal; once upon entering swamp and once after the wisps are run, and seeing another warrior double up on the same godkitten banner as you during mossman… AND use rifle.

1) to not have to put up with this bobblehead crap anymore. I have probably reloaded client at least 50 times and changed the date on my comp over and over and OVER again just for the temporary relief of not having to see it.

2) for my inventory to stop expanding each time I open it.

3) for my chat tabs to not stay lit orange after I either leave an instance or load a new area when party disbands.

4) Make it so that the NPC’s stop buffing the elite trash mobs when doing Arah (example, try attacking an elite risen hunter in Arah with the NPC nearby. The axe that the hunter will throw will bounce 5+ times and instead of hitting you once for like 3k damage, will hit you for over 15k damage because NPC’s don’t dodge).

5) Let me make NPC’s just stay at the start of dungeons. If you aren’t going to give them sensible AI, then remove them.

6) Remove the merge feature from LFG (if it’s not removed on April 15th patch, facedesk).

I might add more to the list in the near future, for now I will leave it at this.

Once again, thousands. THOUSANDS of gems.

Speaking of unobtainable achievements, it’s been how many months since they changed Tequatl? The achievement ‘That Had To Burn’ under the Bosses category has been unobtainable since then as they made the megalaser fire automatically and forgot about the achievement… therefore making it impossible for anybody to get it ever again.

I agree with OP’s mindset but I do agree that it’s a bit exaggerated.

The overall point that I think he’s trying to get across is that removing consequence from failure typically results in a dull environment that doesn’t encourage the average player to try to become better at what they’re doing because laziness and ineptitude is perfectly fine.

I don’t condone it personally and I think catering to people that aren’t willing to put forth any effort into learning how to play better is a bad call in the longrun.

Agreed with all the above statements but remember during those single mob boss fights its better to switch out your mace with a sword for the block.

It’s only better if you need the block.

Perfect examples of when you don’t need a block: Berserker abomination and Brie bosses in Arah P2. These two bosses are coincidentally rare circumstances in which offhand axe is actually viable to maintain perma-fury. You’d use signet of might, signet of fury, and BoD.

I feel like chiming in on the argument between you two, hendo and Rising Dusk… particularly because I agree with points that both of you brought up.

@hendo
I agree very much so about some of the responses you gave him; in particular:

“It doesn’t require active damage mitigation, it’s just a boss with a giant load of toughness that deals constant DoT. That’s about as interesting as watching paint dry.”

“The game really isn’t as easy as people claim it is, it’s just there are a minority of people so experienced at the content that they make it look easy.”

However… I really don’t understand why you’re being as hostile with Rising Dusk as you are. Not sure if you didn’t intend to be, but it definitely comes across that way. He gave a few specific examples and went into detail about how his goal/desirable outcome is for dungeons and more specifically, the bosses, to have more depth and interesting mechanics. If his examples failed to meet that, why not try giving an example yourself that meets the criteria instead of trying to shut him down? I’m guessing there’s probably quite a bit of encounters you’d change if you could, no?

@Rising Dusk
I really really agree with your mentality. However, I’m going to have to agree with hendo (in a less harsh manner) that your specific examples don’t really seem to meet your desired criteria.

-Making alphard’s bleed last longer doesn’t exactly add depth at all and worst case scenario swap a util for cond removal.
-Adding explosions that are unblockable/unreflectable… all I can think of is Mistlock Instability on Fotm 39. There is nothing fun about getting knocked down constantly because someone in your party killed a trash mob nearby, resulting in you being unable to defend yourself.

On that note, that leads me to something that I find to be problematic in any circumstance— being punished because of somebody on your party failing is not always the best way to go about things. Example, somebody failing to dodge Alphard’s pull. Why the hell is everyone instantly killed? It should only instantly kill them. There’s certain mechanics like that which make encounters easier to solo than to do in a group, which I find to be counter-intuitive. For the case of Fotm 39, it’s a cluster knockdowns/knockbacks often not caused by yourself which can very easily get you killed. It’s not always a bad design, but it’s worth taking into consideration.

“Maybe I’m just a member of the crowd that not-so-secretly wishes dungeons were actually difficult and really, really tough for random new players to get into without a lot of practice and trial and error.”

I too am a member of said crowd then.

Sometimes I don’t get how some people’s minds work.

I’m not getting your atm…

He wanted to know 1 simple question: should he save SP for new legendaries or should he spend them? But it took him 5 unnecessary paragraphs to get to that question. Why did he wrote them? lol

I’m the type of person that likes to tell stories, and also the type of person that likes to ensure the person or people that I’m talking to know everything that they might potentially need to know in order to be able to come up with the most desirable of a conclusion.

If I were to simply ask that question I wouldn’t have any insight on my personal situation and whether or not they agree with the logic behind my decisions. It’s a trivial issue, but I’m not posting with the intent of bragging either way. You have a wonderful stock pile of everything. I personally would just sit on it till you have something to go for with it’s it’s not doing you any harm, except maybe burning a hole in your ig wallet. If you can stand a little burning sensation then just hold on. Now can you tell me the reason behind holding those scrolls? Now they are taking up 3 inventory/bank slots when you could just use them so that they are in your wallet.

Ah, well the reason I was saving them is because I figured if I ever urgently needed skill points on another character I’d always have them at my disposal… however, I’ve found that I never need to because of how rapid-paced leveling on this game is and how trivial it is to acquire skill points.

Also I’d never want to use boosters/scrolls on an entirely new class, as the idea of being a level 80 yet being a complete amateur is bothersome. I’d rather learn how to play the class well by engaging myself in as much combat as I can so that by the time I am 80 I’ll be prepared to kick kitten . So far, it’s working for me on my ele. Already soloing champs in open world that are higher level than me.

So, with that in mind… I very may well just use them all up on my warrior, which is the only character that I’ve maxed out crafting disciplines on and intend to. It still doesn’t really change anything about having over 1.7k unspent skill points.

Purple Miku.7032

I just have so many of them and don’t know what I want to do with them.

Right now I have 1,079 unspent skill points, along with…

1 stack of 250 scrolls of knowledge
1 stack of 250 scrolls of knowledge
1 stack of 157 scrolls of knowledge

So that’s 1,736 skill points that I have no use for. I’ve had all of the slot skills on my warrior for months and months, I’ve made my twilight, made a few ascended weapons (two axes and a sword), and made full ascended armor.

Currently leveling up an ele which will be 50 pretty soon, so 80 is in the horizon and I’ll certainly equip it in full Zojja ascended and probs give it 1 of each weapon ascended too… but no legendary.

Others have told me plenty of times to just make legendaries for myself to use or just sell them for money. Problem is, I don’t really like ANY legendaries except Twilight. None of them appeal to me except Quip’s aura (weapon itself looks hideous, it’s just the purple glow that I like) and I actually like the legendary rifle. Unfortunately, rifle is a useless weapon on a warrior and has no purpose other than for Melandru on Arah P4 and possibly WvW roaming, which I don’t even do. It seems kind of wasteful to make it for myself when I won’t even use it unless I incessantly do Arah P4… which I only duo on occasions.

Also have a few thousand gold, so making any of the current legendaries just to sell it afterwards is futile seeing as I don’t really even want anything tbh. I’ve never sold resources on here before aside from when I wasn’t able to fit anything else in my guild vault, resulting in me needing to liquidate a few stacks of t5’s… so because money isn’t urgent, doesn’t seem necessary to do.

I’ve been told new legendaries would be coming out for a while now, but I haven’t seen any information on this. I have no idea if it’s something that I should be expecting, let alone waiting for.

So, my question to you all is if you think it’d be wise to wait for new legendaries to be released in hopes of actually wanting any of them or should I just say screw it and convert all my skill points to even more gold to just sit on? Also if you have any source of information regarding new legendaries… please share it here. I’d appreciate that.

I love getting mossman in swamp not only because he’s more interesting of a fight than bloomhunger but you get to tell immediately who’s an idiot and who isn’t.

I had to ragequit earlier today because I was on a team with two mesmers and a guardian yet 0 reflects whatsoever; I even made an elitist LFG post that specifically said “49 swamp ready no dolyak rifle warrs, staff guards, or gs mesmers” and those are exactly what I ended up with.

So… playing on classes that are specifically desired in FotM for reflects/blocks/blinds/time warp/pulling mobs closer for cleaves… yet running around in circles hitting pretty much no damage at all and letting axes bounce all over the kitten place like a pinball machine instead.

MRW: http://i.imgur.com/8zWR5et.gif

On top of that, the last person on the team was a ranger and had a bear pet named “Ronald.” Of all the things mentioned, I think the last part p*ssed me off the most tbh. It’s as if she knew that she’d be getting under my skin with that bear but she had to go and take it an extra step further and give it a random-kitten name like “Ronald.”

Zerk war on FOTM

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Purple Miku.7032

Purple Miku.7032

Hmmm, I think I went down once or twice there. The second time I was downed was the moment I got kicked.

But seriously, when I’m the only one in melee range while everyone else (2 guards who should give me protection instead of ranging) ranges, it’s harder for me to survive with nearly 100% aggro and obviously they don’t die if they run around the entire room. I was the only one with scale venom so weakness was only due to me proccing it and my warhorn. As I said, I’m not the best player and this was the first lv49 after a fractals break, but at least I try to improve and and don’t AFKontent’ing that boss. The run was absolutely fine until then and I can’t think of anything I did so horribly wrong beforehand that I landed on the “I am about to kick you”-list. The fact that I did a Lv49 with a better, partly premade group afterwards with NO ISSUE where people were meleeing a good amount of % of the fights (we got Cliffside for the 2nd fractal again and I was telling them I was kicked for meeleing the last boss which gave everyone a good laugh) instead of ranging 100% tells me that it was allright.

I really hope these guys got dredge after kicking me xD

Well if it makes you feel better, you aren’t alone. I was kicked from a pug team before on level 38 cliffside because I hit with the hammer when there was one chanter left, despite the fact that I accounted for probably about half the damage on archdiviner at that point… lol

Selling Arah P3, 4 buyers standing there waiting for me to solo Wraithlord.

Erm… I don’t see the problem here?

I never expect my customers to help me with the last boss, it comes with the premium of the service i’m offering “a full run” basically, i don’t see the problem either. Although due to the influx of exploitards i forgive the fact people forgot what morals and standards are.

Exactly.

To me it’s personally a little embarrassing to think about demanding payment from people for a service that I’m providing for them yet requesting them to help me provide it to them. Seeing as I’m “doing” or “did” the path for them, that’s how I perceive this— a service.

If you can’t earn up to 30-50g in a day with only a few hours of time invested.

Video or it doesn’t exists. By doesn’t exists, I mean it doesn’t involve instances or flipping. Also, what is a “few” hours??? I just spent 3 hours in WvW and made a tenth the amounts you’re saying. The whole time was spent zerging and I have a few hundred kills in said time.

Thus, again, back to the fact that gold is gated in a few very specific tasks. The games rewards should be more balanced.

Well this is going to branch off into a different topic, but you just explained a huge reason as to why I don’t bother with WvW; it’s lack of reward. There’s a plethora of reasons that I have problems with it but I’m going to leave it at that for the sake of being relevant.

While this isn’t the only source of income that I have, it’s certainly the very best. I also might add that I do not cheat at all and livestream it fairly often. Not only that, but willing to teach it for free. I’m guessing you’re already aware of this, but selling Arah is legal provided you do not exploit. I only bother with soloing and selling path 1 and duoing path 4. Path 4 cannot be done solo without exploiting, period. There is absolutely no way that Simin (2nd last boss) can be killed alone without bugging her on terrain— however, she is very easy to duo. I’ll have a video upload of a full duo run of path 4 soon.

If you’d like to, I have a full run of an Arah solo here. It’s raw footage so it’ll include small breaks in between stuff along with the wait for buyers at the end, etc. I sell it for 7 gold each slot at the end (placeholders are needed to protect me from being kicked by trolls) and pay for help on Shoggroth (the tar boss, as it can’t be spawned without the help of 3 others) 1g per person. Since you receive 3g at the end of the path, this offsets the cost of paying for tar help. Therefore, the total earnings at the end: 28g (7g * 4 people).

Video: http://www.twitch.tv/purpleishawt/c/3840580

P.S. I agree with you about the last statement of yours and that there is an imbalance with rewards in the game. This is inevitable and problems with rewards will always surface. If you are to fully balance out all rewards then what ultimately will result is everything beginning to feel purposeless and you’d be able to get the same outcome no matter what. This leads to people sticking with the most concrete options and/or doing whatever takes less time and effort.

While rewards in the game definitely need to be tweaked, we definitely want to be very careful with what we wish for…

By the way if I wasn’t to sell Arah ever I’d probably still be able to make ~10-15g a day if I really wanted to, and no I wouldn’t be doing too many daily dungeon runs. Some, not many.

Sorry guys, but… no way. I want to see as little of these horrible items (fragments, ore, dust) dropped as possible. They haven’t nerfed drop rates enough. I have to keep destroying 250x stacks because of the dozens and dozens of them that I get. My mules’ bags are all full of stacks, I have dozens and dozens of refined bricks, ingots and stars… I just don’t really understand why these items have to be dropped so frequently.

I think that these items are far too abundant in the first place; having them dropped elsewhere seems really unnecessary.

Epidemic: kicked for not playing heavy

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Purple Miku.7032

Purple Miku.7032

It is a statistical obligation that certain things will always be the individual “best”; the real err is in the pug logic of assuming that stacking those individualist “bests” — heavies only — will be even more optimum, instead of diversifying for more party buffs since it is no longer an individual crusade. They don’t try to compliment each other all all. They’re just stacking ketchup and meanwhile mustard is pretty kitten nice.

The idea is so encompassing that not even saying “heavies only”, but posting “DPS only,” results in far too many 5 warrior teams, and it hurts.

So the epidemic is not an epidemic of class imbalance, it’s an epidemic of practicing stupidity. But that’s why they’re pugs! It’s like a warm-up for hard mode (if they ever get around to it).

But what’s the point in diversifying to get different (not necessarily more) buffs when you can just take 5 warriors and faceroll everything before enemies have a chance to do any damage? Sure it’s more fun but when people are running dungeons for money or achievements they want to be as efficient as possible.

Then why are you insinuating that people looking for efficiency should be taking more than 2 warriors? You’re contradicting yourself. I know you don’t want people to be taking heavies only but what you said implies that you believe it’s efficient to stack up a team with warriors.

I usually leave a team if it has more than 1 other warrior aside from me (for FotM). It’s so wasteful to NOT have an ele, a guard, a mesmer, or a thief.

As far as dungeons are concerned it’s the same thing. You only want two warriors because it’s a pain in the butt to carry two banners and pugs are bad at helping with that.

P.S: Bowbears at high level fractals? 0.0 that is something new

No. It’s really not.

Bearbows are everywhere. It’s horrible.

My fractal character is a full ascended berserker warrior, too.

you have to be cautious with PUGs though. Yesterday, I was kicked out of a lv49 cliffside fractal (2nd frac) because I got hit sometimes WHILE BEING THE ONLY ONE meele’ing the last boss. So if you see ranged only heroes, just leave.

I agree about the last statement, but “I got hit sometimes”…

You sure you aren’t underexaggerating here? If you kept getting downed and having to be revived, then I would understand kicking. It does get on my nerves when people die constantly… but aside from that I can relate when morons refuse to melee anything. ESPECIALLY molten duo… god it’s so irritating.

Seriously can’t believe what I’m reading. This is the least grind-oriented MMO I’ve ever played aside from pay-to-win ones that were rubbish as hell, which I didn’t even pay real life money at all for other than essential things like a mount or whatever.

Once again, I repeat:

If you can’t earn up to 30-50g in a day with only a few hours of time invested, then quit whining. You obviously haven’t figured out any of the best methods for money-making so if you aren’t willing to seek answers and ways to better yourself, then your complaints and pleas for Arenanet to trivialize everything even more are seriously destructive for the integrity of the game.

They probably are referring to the fact that with the soon upcoming changes to damage along with the implementation of the new ferocity attribute, it’ll drastically reduce the speed at which things can be killed.

It doesn’t mean that Arah won’t be able to be solod at all. The change does nothing except make things take longer… doesn’t actually make anything more difficult to do.

Ele’s are highest dps in game. top dps <-> lowest survivability. seems fair

then why is my main, a necro, more powerful in general PvE and survives like mad?

what did you mean by “more powerful”? powerful in what?
damage? no
support? no
buffs? no
survival? yes
necro’s are selfish and useless for party in any pve/wvw/pvp scenario

you have never played a necro have you…
they are really good at support, can heal whole groups of players, let other players do conditions otherwise difficult to do and you call necro’s selfish?
man oh man, talk about not checking the facts……

Necros aren’t the best in anything other than having the highest hp pools. They have no cleave, which is HORRIBLE for PvE, deal very low damage in comparison to the other classes, and don’t even support the best.

There’s no reason to ever want a necro on a team. Support on this game is with control, blinds, reflects, blocks. All of these a necro isn’t known for. The only control necros really have is fearing which is a burden in dungeons.

This topic roughly translates to “I did something terrible, as a result of my own impatience and lack of attention to detail, and want the game to be modified so that it may accommodate my own errors and eliminate the inconvenience of having to invest time and money into a game to reap the rewards.”

I can’t believe how unfriendly this game is to the casual player in concern to endgame content. I never really thought about it until I realized that with 40 gold there really wasn’t anything I could do anyways with it

Absolutely atrocious. I can’t even believe that this isn’t sarcastic.

This game is obsessed with casual gamers. There’s almost no endgame content at all! Hardcore gamers are alienated for god’s sake.

Complaining about not having enough gold when you clearly don’t have any idea what the best money makers are is kind of childish. If you aren’t willing to put forth the effort to learn how to do something then why the heck should you be rewarded?

One can easily earn 30-50g a day with only a couple of hours a day if they really wanted to, without even touching the tp.

Are you two talking about his big AoE circle? AFAIK that’s life drain. If so, just immediately leave the circle with whatever movement skills/evasions that you have. If you have swiftness, you can return from the outside of the circle with no problem the moment the ring appears.

If you’re talking about Life Suck then sorry. Confused at which one you’re talking about. For this one, however, the timing can be a little iffy but you shouldn’t be taking more than one tick of damage if you evade twice during this. It can be a little awkward to time it properly but most of the time I find that if I take any damage, it’s usually because I evade slightly too early because of inconvenient timing for him to start the attack (I like to stack might with whirlwind as soon as it’s available).

Because the dredge use the exact same skill and I cannot imagine the suffering we would have to endure if THOSE stopped being reflectable.

Dear god I … I… that didn’t even cross my mind!

Gave me the chills just thinking about it.

I only go to WvW when big things like this league beginning soon are active, because it takes too long to find anybody that isn’t in a zerg otherwise. So with that in mind, I might not have the most reliable advice in this department.

However, I find that aside from mobility GS is an extremely useful weapon only if your enemies are idiots. Fact of the matter is, you’re dealing with human intelligence. Other people will respond to getting their health dropped so the situation is different than a PvE setting with primitive mob AI, so if you aren’t using utils like stability + frenzy in conjunction with GS… you’re totally wasting your time.

This is the case especially in a zerg run-in, which is I suppose what you’re more interested in. For a zerg run-in, I highly advise longbow and hammer… despite whether or not I want to. It’s just ultimately better to be applying conditions/CC’s in AoE range for a situation like that more so than anything else. Use that sigil that has a chance to trigger an AoE flame blast on crit for the longbow and perhaps a sigil of force for the hammer. Not sure about the hammer sigil and there could be a lot of other options, but yeah.

Also keep in mind that cleave damage can only affect 3 enemies at a time, so you aren’t able to do much with 100b in a zerg run-in and it makes yourself more vulnerable, if anything, to lock yourself in place like that.

Actually on that note, what do any of you avid WvWers think about what I posted here? Just curious. ^
