ANet: “We saw how the elementalist was lacking in the support category, so for their elite specialization, we’ve decided to address this. The warhorn will bring much needed healing and condition cleanses to the elementalist which should help with their sustain. Meanwhile, since the thief is lacking in the melee weapon department, we’ve decided to address this by making their elite specialization a melee staff. This should help compliment the thief’s multitude of 1200 range weapons and lack of a solid melee option.”

Could you please provide a link to that source? Or did you just make up the quote?

That’s very obviously made up as a joke on the weapon choices. Pretty good one too I may add.

why can´t we have it?

Because it requires coding and Anet seems to be short on resources with GW2.

Or rather because it can still be abused in game modes. It’s not as powerful as having in combat swap, but it’s still something that can be really abused. The mobility of a D/D & staff ele out of combat would be insane.

I keep seeing people state that the elite spec can be OP. We don’t want OP. OP is bad for the game and bad for the class. OP means it’s way too powerful, way too good and pushes aside all other current builds. That is not what you should want.

I also see many people stating the fact it can call down storms and do much damage and that’s what will make it awesome. I’m not sure what elementalist you’re playing, but we already do this in PvE (Meteor Shower, Frost Volly, Glyph of Storms) and this wouldn’t change the playstyle nor add anything new or exciting to the class.

I’m all for waiting to see what the developers have up their sleeve, but please keep this in mind. You should want new and interesting mechanics that are an alternative to the current ones, not something we already currently do (call down storms, AoE boons and heals) nor something that is stronger than what we currently have. D/D ele in PvP is already very very strong and staff in PvE is king. We should look for Warhorn to provide a playstyle alternative to this.

Whether or not they deliver is something we’ll see on Friday.

1) In PvE, if warhorn is to be viable, D/W or S/W needs to offer more than Staff.

Not more, just be on par, with alternative playstyle even. Currently scepter is just tiers below staff in terms of usage in PvE.

This guy gets it. Scepter/Dagger mainhand with Warhorn offhand doesn’t have to be better, just on par with staff.

Skills make a weapon. Give them a chance.

You’re overly optimistic. Wish I could have that optimism. I fear it will be support oriented based on current versions of the warhorn. I can always be pleasantly surprised though!

He’s not saying that it has to be necessarily better than staff, just that it can be a viable alternative. Currently staff is so much better than any other weapon set in PvE that nothing really comes close to it’s effectiveness. It has everything rolled in one, heals, massive damage, reflect and so on. Without making Warhorn so much more powerful than Dagger offhand or Focus offhand it won’t be able to compete with the staff in PvE.

As for ytour question in the OP – I’m not excited, but I’m not down either. I will wait to see the mechanics released for the class. It’s very possible that like Chronomancer, the elite spec and it’s utilities interest me where the new weapon didn’t interest me at all. I can see this being the case here, that I will severely dislike warhorn but the spec itself may have merit.

Wanna know something weird? They datamined the horn of the teaser image recently and it had two sigils on it. Not claiming anything and maybe it was just for testing… But what is if it actually is a 2 handed weapon?

It’s not, it was explained why that was. It was an ascended greatsword skinned to be the datamined item (in this case a warhorn) as it couldn’t show the actual item.

Just to point out, that isn’t the only reason people don’t like the knockback, it’s also because if you’re not removing a Defiance stack then the group lost the chance to use Deep Freeze which is a very long CC right at the start.

Just an aside.

I’ve been toying with something similiar but using non-celestial pieces to do it. My aim is for around 15k health with 2.4 to 2.5k power, 2.6/7k armor and around 35%-40% crit.

Looks solid, but power is low as Gokil has mentioned. Hoelbrak would be much better to make up for the low power through the might stacks. I’m personally using Strength but that’s because I have a stack of them in my bank since I bought them waaaay back when they were worth next to nothing.

So far I’m at this :
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-o;9;9;9;002G;0238036156;4S;5vhrTvhrT20kBfm;5EbE6FbF6GbG60uVIF310;4cW59-179cV19cV19F2;9;9;9;9E-6q

Close to all my targets except armor. Using zerk armor because I can’t be hassled to craft another ascended set. While I don’t have the same Healing Power the difference between what I have and yours is around 28 healing per cast and regen difference is 41 per tick.

The only validity any class needs is fun.

This is true. However, from my experience people who play Ranger have a fondness for using their knocback on cooldown messing up AoE’s and positioning. It doesn’t mean the class is bad at all, just that the people who play the class have a higher propensity for disregarding the fact that knocnbacks aren’t DPS. It’s quite annoying as an Elementalist to drop Meteor Shower → Frost Bow Ice volley → Glyph of Storms and have a Ranger knock it out of all 3 AoE’s because reasons.

Mesmers do this too.

….but of course that begs the question of why you’d have the condi build there to begin with at all….

Because conditions are good to use against pretty much anything else in the game save that one build? Just because you are countered by 1 thing doesn’t suddenly make you useless in the entire rest of the game.

For example:
You are at mid point – DS ele comes to you. Can you not go to far to pressure there instead? Are you all of a sudden not able to help home point because of this? What about the other 4 people on the other team? Can you not put conditions on them?

In a team fight DS barely stays as is on a DS ele because it’s that easy to get rid of anyway. You are complaining about a 1v1 when the game is being balanced and discussed in a 5v5 game mode where objectives are the main point and kills are secondary.

Nobody ever said Diamond Skin is OP, broken, or a bad mechanic vs a power build. -_-u

Your response is really redundant and unhelpful.

My response wasn’t to you, it was to Laraley saying it was passive, since well… it’s not as it actively requires you to focus on remaining above 90%. The difficulty is magnified when you have more than one person hitting you. The use of 1 condi + 1 power is an example. There has been 1 person who knows what to do and that’s this person:

I +1ed the post, but I’m not sure if I entirely agree.

Being that I run a condi build [using Rabid stats], it sucks that this one build completely counters me, but a Diamond Skin ele has to make a concession to go into earth for such a trait. If I see an ele on the other team, I automatically let my team know that I can’t 1v1 diamond skin ele. I make adjustments accordingly and never have an issue that my team can’t surmount in due time.

That’s the way it should be I think.

eta- Diamond skin only counters rabid & settler’s amulet.

It’s a team game, get some help. Stop expecting every build to be able to 1v1 everything (this game isn’t even balanced on 1v1) or be useful in all scenarios. It shouldn’t, there should be counters otherwise what good is a team if you can do everything. Diamond skin is not the reason necros are not in “meta”, that is all the fault of the traits and what a necro can bring to the table.

Your response is really redundant and useless.

Not completely true, you will have a better time on Carrion, but it’s still be very difficult to get through the 10% hp due to so much sustain.

Let’s be honest, Diamond Skin rewards you for absolutely nothing, which is not healthy for the game. There should be some skill involved and also counterplay, I think that it’s been enough of things that has no counterplay.

Uhh you’re rewarded for being good enough to keep yourself at 90%+ health while being attacked. That’s not an easy thing to do if there are 2 people beating on you and 1 is condi and 1 is power.

3-4 seconds of resistance on entering earth(30-50% uptime). On enter and exit would be too strong because with a little boon duration you could get 100% uptime, which would be op. Also, this trait hard counters most condi builds. All you people saying, why don’t you have power are missing the point. Players should be able to play rabid or settlers if they want and not have 0% chance of winning. Also, many carrion builds still won’t get the ele below 90%, eles have plenty of healing, vigor, and prot to make sure of that.

Because they are only countering 1 person? This is a team game after all. If you’re a complete condi DPS then either:
1. Call for help
2. Don’t engage till you get help.
3. Do something ELSE important for your team.

This whole thing that 1 build (and yes, it’s a build because the entire spec has to revolve around survivability) shouldn’t counter another is just the death of any interesting PvP. There is already tons of games out there that have hard counters. Look at MOBA’s, champions are released all the time that counter X or Y. Best example I can give is in League of Legends a champion named Galio who counters literally every single Ability Power (read: magic based) champion in the game because his passive effect is the more magic resist he has the more damage he does. That’s what he does, and it makes it so that if you’re that mage, you need to play better, watch your butt when he’s around and find your kills on someone else. How does a mage fight him? They dont, what they do is:
1. Play passively
2. Ask for help from a team mate (jungler who in GW2 is your point harasser/rotating DPS) to shut him down and deny farm/kill him
3. Go somewhere else on the map and kill other people in other lanes.

It’s not fun to be countered for sure, but this is a team game. Get help, swap objectives, react to the presence.

Living Story Season 2 too difficult

Considering the fact that it is getting close to decision time on HoT, many would be thinking about this also.

The difficulty of the new content would be a factor in that decision and community feedback is what I am gathering since many of you have played the HoT preview.

Even if you are right, that means I may not be able to solo with my elementalist through HoT content without frustrations. That means HoT world exploration and stories would probably be a lot more difficult than world exploration and personal stories are right now. That would be painful for me.

At least in GW1, I could strategize a team build to get me past difficult areas, but GW2 is pretty much just dependent on age-related reflexes to dodge.

OK so I’d like to point out a few things and ask you some questions. Elementalist is one of the best classes to solo on when played correctly (not very difficult to learn). The main issue I see here is that you’re having trouble playing solo on the class. I’m not going to say L2P, but is it possible that you are geared/specced incorrectly and not using a good general setup?

I’d like to learn more about your playstyle and gear/skill/trait setup so that we can help instead of see you get frustrated like this. Elementalist is either extremely effective or meh depending on if it’s played right and geared/specced correctly. Are you camping an attunement? Are you trying to be a “water heal ele” (please don’t say that’s true, it annoys me so much).

If you feel that elementalist isn’t for you, there are easier classes to play for soloing content such as a ranger or a warrior.

I’m pleasantly surprised how helpful the elementalist community has been so far, I can’t say the same of other profession communities, not gonna say which. I’m going to be trying out air when solo, and fire in small groups with consistent swiftness uptime, I think hoelbrak+food is too valuable to give that up. I also think Lightning Rod, Electric Discharge, extremely high weakness uptime, perma fury and swiftness, 17s CD Shocking Auras and 27s CD Updrafts (lower CD on RtL is the cherry on top) have nothing to envy the fire specialization.

I’m also seeing that most builds just go the typical zerker+knight mix that most other professions do, so I guess condi damage and healing power are not as impacful as I thought? I’m seeing some weird amounts such as 150 or 250, is such a low amount even worth it?

Not particularly no, unless you’re specifically aiming for a condition build. Most builds are power oriented and get a lot of the damage from conditions from the might. It’s added damage, but not something to focus on for gearing.

Elementalist’s best friend, especially against stationary targets, is Ice Bow #4. Between that and Meteor Shower you should be able to always take out a good chuck of hp in a short amount of time.

Or slot a scepter and dagger and go Fresh Air. Dragons Tooth → Phoenix → Air Swap → Lightning Strike. Also takes huge chunks out.

At least the other guy was constructive and actually seemed knowledgable.

Gee, thanks…. your opinion of me is flattering and so important to me…

And regarding your DS argument – I still think this is a bad change. This makes the trait more powerful, but also less useful. 75% health marker is easily kept (much easier than 90%) even in a teamfight unless you’re being trained. Your 4 second window of no Resistance gives the illusion of “counterplay” as it’s just pile on the condi’s right as it falls off, knock them below the 75% marker and keep them there while the ele struggles to bring himself above that level.

The play around the 90% mark is more skillful and IMO better than your suggestion as it isn’t that you’re looking for a window, but that you’re just playing around that marker. It just takes one or 2 autos from a power build to knock you below that 90% marker and then a necro or other condi class can keep you below that once you run out of condi clears (which you will). In both situations you will need to be trained to bring you below a health marker, but in your suggestion the length of time of condi resistance is actually longer because it’s easier to hover above the 75% mark than it is to be around the 90% mark (even with the condi damage uptime of 50%) due to cleanses. The 25% health cushion along with the rotations of condi cleanses means that I will definitely be able to keep condi’s off of me far longer than I would if it was at the 90% mark even if I was trained by 2 people.

Oh and the Frost Aura thing, it’s 2 traits to take to make it that powerful. The Frost Aura trait isn’t meant to be a condi counter, it’s a direct damage counter. The regen is just a way to try to compensate for just getting crit. The synergy with the Grandmaster is just icing on the cake. You say it’s super powerful, let’s look at how many condi cleanses an ele has in the normal Earth/Water/Arcana build:

From Procs:
3 (max) condi cleanses per minute from Frost Aura proc + GM – Assuming you get crit every 20 seconds on the 20 second mark
6 (max) condi cleanses per minute from Evasive Arcana – Assuming you swap to water + dodge roll every 10 seconds on the mark
3 from Cantrip Regen per minute – Assuming you use every cantrip on cooldown
6 (max) condi cleanses from swapping to water – Assuming you swap to water + dodge roll every 10 seconds on the mark

18 (max) total if we meet all the assumptions. In a real match, this will never ever happen as we don’t (or shouldn’t) spam swaps/cantrips like that. Every condi cleanse listed there is actually pretty kitten good as far as cost/effect as they all require you to use something or get punished(getting hit with a crit).

Removing the regen from the Frost Aura proc or increasing the ICD isn’t really going to affect much as far as condi cleansing (as it is random and on the condition of being crit) or heals as the heal (with no healing power) is 520 over 4.5 seconds and with the celestial amulet is increased to 567 healing. It’s not huge, and it won’t affect anything in the long run. The synergy is strong, and it should be.

To get that amount of condi cleanses you’re taking 5 traits and locking yourself to 2 lines (Evasive Arcana, Elemental Attunement, Soothing Ice, Soothing Disruption, Cleansing Wave). You’re dedicating your build to cleansing condi’s and boon generation, there needs to be a good reward for it. If you increase the ICD of Soothing Ice any more it becomes a trait that’s worthless. 2 per minute? Not worth. It’s not super powerful as it requires you to get critically hit. I mean, with the amount of health & armor you have that is normally a rather large hit and is a good chunk of your health. Also, this condi cleanse can be baited out rather easily, so there is that too.

hey ozii. If you add 200 power and take 20% crit damage from your build you do more damage in the long run.

I know power is the superior stat, but I kind of feel 180 crit damage is low. I’ll mess around with it more. Probably throw on 2 zerk rings to see how that damage damage looks.

180% crit damage is pretty normal with the stat changes. usually full zerker builds have around 200%

There is a build out there with 2.4k power/ 500 healing / 2.6k AF / high crit(not stating) with over 210 ferocity / over 20k vit and decent condi. All offcourse with stacks. Just google it.

As I already said multiple times, I’ll duel anyone on NA who questions my skills. Then you’re welcome to apologize afterwards. Multiple people have already dueled me and apologized.

And my balance suggestions were all from discussion with some of the pro eles that I know on NA. We were all in agreement that it would tone down the class that would be balanced.

Edit – You know what, I’m being a little unfair. I’ll post why I think you’re wrong.

First off, we need to look at the game as a whole. The game is balanced around 5v5 so any complaint that a build hard counters another is secondary in objective to balance. Why you may ask? Because in the case of DS there is counterplay in the team sense.

Second of all, we need to do 1 step at a time. If we were to go through your entire list in one go, the class wouldn’t be balanced, it would be out of the meta completely. For changes such as tooling with Burning, we are changing things on a meta level, not an individual builds level so the turning down of burning would have a larger affect and we would have to see how that affects builds. It is my firm belief at this time the reason Ele is viewed as “OP” is strictly because of the Burning changes and how burning stacks and interacts with might.

Woah wait, might you say? You listed this as an issue that needs solving. However, it doesn’t. Ele (as a class) has been able to stack large amounts of might since the betas. This stacking capability is the reason for the large nerfs right before launch of the game to the base damage numbers of Eles abilities as it was just WAY too strong. Now how did all of a sudden after this patch is might stacking a huge issue? Because of Burning. Since Might stacks give condi damage, you turn a mainly power spec into a serious hybrid spec that has pressure coming from 2 prongs, condi and power. Where before the condi damage was secondary and something that you could relatively ignore, now it’s a serious threat along with the decent direct damage you currently do.

The first real culprit that needs to be dealt with is Burning. Once you tone this down, much of the Eles "OP"ness will disappear because that serious condi pressure is not as serious anymore. Once that new change settles in, then we need to move on to other things.

Now, lets take your other suggestions as some have a basis of merit.

DS
Now, I will agree, I’m not a fan of the “passive” trait. However, it is in essence a good trait. It doesn’t need much changing because it’s OP, but because the skilled eles don’t like passiveness. You say wait, it counters all condi builds! kitten right it does, for a while. I personally believe that this can be left to the side till a later date because in a team game, if you are a condi and facing DS Elet, then you should do the team thing. Call for help if you’re a home point bunker or just back off till teammates come. 90% isn’t much to get a target down to especially if there is more than one player. Should the game ever really evolve into ESports, this is like counter picking an opponent in LoL (it’s like picking Galio into Katarina). You KNOW that there is a condi Necro on the other team, therefore you want a way to counter it (to an extent) and DS is a great way to go. As an aside, I think it does promote skillful play of a sorts as you do need to maintain 90% health which sometimes (especially in a team brawl) is NOT an easy thing to do. If a whole team is condi, well then that’s a terrible decision.
Frost Aura on crit

No, I have 0 problem with it. Especially since we want to BUFF condis to become at a comparable level to direct damage builds. I think the 20 second cooldown is great actually because again, it’s on a crit which is a chance anyway. Sometimes it will be every 20 seconds, sometimes longer. Plus, it requires taking a decent hit (it is a crit) which will chunk your HP pool.

Blinding Ashes
I think this is in general a terrible trait all around. A non controllable blind? Meh. Your suggestion here is sound. 10 second ICD and make it a per target trait. However, this change isn’t because it’s OP, but because this would be a way better trait as it’s only single target at this time.

Bringing back Soothing Winds
No, not at all. This was a trait that was never taken by any elet, and it was for a REASON. It was negligible and the Air line is (or should be) for damage.

Removing Prot from EC
Nope. This will hurt the burst elet way more than it will the D/D ele. Final Shielding is still a bad.
We need to wait for the final condi damage changes, namely the change to burning. After the burning changes, we will most likely see a very different landscape. And if not, then we move on to the next item that sticks out like a sore thumb. Not that it matters, everything is still up in the air now anyways and will be thrown out the window when HoT actually launches.

I just played a match with a cele ele d/d with my SD engi the guy didn’t need to dodge a single time he had protection, regeneration, fury, might, vigor during the whole 1v1 and when his health dropped half he went water and was instantly healed and that happened everytime i dropped him half and eventually he won with full hp,….i mean cmon what’s the point of pvping right now when only mesmer and ele are viable. How is it possible that arenanet buffs the same and same classes all the time in the name of balance and build divergence that’s ridiculous.

Sounds like you didn’t save your burst for AFTER they swapped out of water. And sounds like you’re annoyed a bruiser/ almost bunker spec is good at surviving a 1v1.

Yes:

  • Your video is insanely dark so you barely see anything.
  • If you’re making a highlights video, make sure you’re doing highlights that are… well interesting. 1 minute 40 mark for example where you do.. well looks like just hanging around. Or 2 minute mark where you just zoom in on the enemy health bar showing the burns killing someone. Yay condi damage? show how you get it applied
  • Music is a preference, but don’t mix 2 VERY different styles of music (around 1 minute mark). It’s jarring. You also didn’t show anything that really requires a zoom/slow down of that.

Just some things I noticed. Make it exciting, show some cool stuff, not just your average matches where you get big numbers on Burning Speed or land a Fire Grab.

I already listed specific changes that would rework eles without overnerfing them to the point of uselessness. This should tone down eles overall to a reasonable level. Copying and pasting from my other thread. Ele main here btw.

1: Raise the icd of blinding ashes to 10s or so PER target so it’s not completely useless to take.

2: Raise the icd of soothing ice or remove the regen portion of it.

3: Rework diamond skin so it works as a resistance buff that procs for 4 secs every time you swap into earth while above the 75% health threshold to promote more skillful counterplay.

4: Rework burning across all professions aka scale it down.

5: Possibly rework the might stacking capabilities of ele by scaling it down a bit to promote more skillful play and more teamwork. Maybe by starting with the pyromancer’s puissance trait in fire or the might on cantrip in fire.

6: I say keep the healing/sustain on ele since we have one of the lowest hp pools and armor anyways.

7: Remove protection altogether from the elemental contigency trait (which is rng) since we have enough access to protection anyways. So replace it with something like swiftness or regen.

8: Rework Ferocious Winds and revert it back to the trait it was pre patch aka gain healing power based on precision. That way we can give marauder/zerk eles some kind of sustain to encourage more build diversity.

Feel free to add those to the document since they’re constructive/reasonable nerfs.

Umm.. No. I’ve purposely ignored your threads for a reason and it’s because you propose ridiculous ideas and nerfs that aren’t even on point for what needs to be done.

Even your #8 is so wrong. It was never that way, it was Ferocity based upon your healing power. You’re talking about bringing back Soothing Winds which was a useless trait that was never taken hence it was removed. I could address your 8 points individually, but I’d rather not waste my time nor derail this thread. Pyromancers Pussiance….

For god sake, let the “meta” settle, the patch has been out for all of 13 days.

I know a lot of the suggestions from that list were covered on the forums. The difference is the general fairness the suggestions were for all classes.

Class bias, if any, remained very subtle unlike the stuff people post about like nerfing their counters out of existence. Hope they consider that list.

Oh, and it’s great for necros to have Bhawb. He’s the necromancer lobbyist, always looking after balance concerns for the class.

Except for elementalist. Seems like there are no ideas/proposals about them beyond “Water/Arcana is too necessary”. I wish one of the “big names” who plays ele as a main would actually step up and do something like this. Before you say why don’t you do it, I have sent in things in the past, but it isn’t the same coming from me then lets say… Phantaram.

“Regeneration” is refering to the boon. They’re is plenty of ways to grant regeneration. The most common for ele is attuning to water with elemental attunement.
I used to run dwayna’s rune which grant regeneration when using a healing skill.

But yeah, as you pointed out, only #5W staff (and #3W scepter) grant regen as ele weapon skill.

Also Undercurrent grants regeneration (Water Trident #4)

Mantras? Geez I hope we don’t get them. Would far prefer stances but even shouts would be better.

I could see stances, I suppose. Some type of semi-powerful channeled skill, with the drawback of being rooted.

Mantras wouldn’t be bad either; although when I think ‘mantra’ I think of the GW1 version (which were stances) not the GW2 version, which just seem like chargeable cantrips.

Personally, if it’s sword I’d love to see Deceptions and Tricks instead of stances. I think that would fit that better.

Without reading through all the comments, I hope someone remembered that Ele getting an offhand is actually 8 new skills (possibly 10 if they add another atune). Which is more than any other class… Don’t really know why people are surprised they went with an offhand.

So eles will never get a mainhand or two-hander? Nice logic. Ele skills also tend to be weaker when directly compared to other professions.

You’re the one drawing that conclusion. ArenaNet picked warhorn with ONE of the reasons being that it’s less skills to design isn’t not even bad logic. To assume they’re going to use that argument every time they make a new specialisation is just silly.

ANet hasn’t “picked” anything, it’s data mining. There is nothing confirmed till they confirm it.

I need a good pvp ele build :o

Raif.9507

The three good Ele builds in PvE:

PvP, not PvE.

For D/D or Staff bunker you have:Earth/Water/Arcane Powerful Aura - Not the best, but interesting
Earth/Water/Arcane - Traditional D/D cele
Air/Water/Arcane - Fresh Air build
Air/Water/Arcane - Damage oriented D/D with Tempest Defense & Bolt to the Heart

You can try either one of the Earth builds with either Diamond Skin or Stone Heart in Earth.

For Scepter/Focus/Dagger you have:
Air/Water/Arcane - Fresh Air build
Fire/Water/Arcane - For building lot’s of Fury, lack of Fresh Air made this build feel.. OK. Can swap Persisting Flames for Blinding Ashes but I’m not a fan
Fire/Water/Air - Build I’ve been testing. It’s complete glass, but can be some fun.

All the builds that use Water you can swap Soothing Ice for Stop Drop and Roll instead if you prefer that.

All builds that use Fire can have Burning Fire instead of Burning Precision if so you choose.

These are just some of the builds I’ve been playing around with.

Elementalist is very OP

in PvP

Posted by: Raif.9507

Raif.9507

Look at this:
http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/gw057bwoz63gpvx.jpg

Ele burning 35k. It is definitely OP, right?

Until you see the 3 hits Burning speed only deal 500 damage each. That ele is using a pure Burning Duration build. People need to realize what’s OP is neither Ele nor any other class. It’s also not Burning. It’s the Burning Duration runes/sigils, which is a 65% raw damage multiplier. Without the Burning duration runes/sigils, the above burning would be 21k, which is not OP anymore.

For 50 ticks? That’s actually fine. If it was a single tick for that much it would be a problem, but that’s 50 ticks of burning on you, shame for not cleansing it (not you specifically but whoever that was). 50 ticks of burning is a lot, especially when you have 0 context for the fight. 50 ticks means that burning was there for a long time, maybe from multiple sources and such. Also we don’t know how long the fight actually lasted nor how many people where there. For a 1 minute fight (10 seconds more than 50 ticks) that’s pretty OK in my book.

Ok, what if it’s something like this:

Warhorn Skill #4 Calls down a Storm depending on Attunement.
Warhorn Skill #5 Lets you Move called Storms around to targeted Locations, or if used before designate a starting position for the Storm.

While passive, Storms cause impairing Conditions (Burning, Chilled, Weakness, Cripple), but when you move them, enemies caught in their wake are struck with CC (Daze, Immobilize, Stun, Knockdown)

Suddenly, the Elementalist has access to a load of AoE Denial and CC, and won’t be forced into Staff for such endeavors, allowing them to run Scepter or Dagger instead.

Sounds…. useless and exactly what we have now. AoE and CC, just not the conditions (though we have that too).

So what’s your full argument in why you think, without a doubt, we’re getting sword?

It’s funny you come up with this argument when you’ve been acting like it’s for sure ele is getting a warhorn. Also, pretty sure he didn’t mean that at all, he was just stating there might be not enough evidence to claim a warhorn as a sure thing.

Honest mistake, most people in denial of Warhorn are headstrong because they were so sure of sword. Would you like to answer instead?

I don’t think people are in denial that Warhorn is coming, it’s becoming a stronger possibility that it is. People are expressing their displeasure at the fact that it may be warhorn over sword.

We know jack all about what’s really coming, every one of us.

Thanks for the kind word Silhoutte, I know I will end up accepting if it really becomes warhorn. But I also don’t have doubt that I will be crazy sad for a long time, since I really want to use bolt on my elementlist (Heck, I’ve been even farming mats to bolt the last months).

I just think that ele lacks so much in variety of weapons, that give to it (Just to it that have only 4 weapons avaiable atm) the most sad and boring weapon is like a slap on face :| .

Well, still crossing fingers to it not be warhorn .

Think Stormcaller from GW1. It can totally be awesome if Anet works it right. They gave us dagger ele’s and I’m very satisfied with how they came out.

One of my favorite ways to play.

I have faith they can make warhorn really cool for the Tempest if that’s the weapon we’re getting.

And if nothing else if isn’t sword and it’s warhorn, you can sell Bolt and dry your tears with money.

Sitting on 6k gold… it doesn’t help =(

Updraft is a versatile skill. I don’t think you can say it doesn’t grant mobility when it throws you backwards and then adds swiftness on top. It does have other features that mean its often more useful to use it for something else, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t also a mobility skill. In fact, the blowout just makes it better at opening a gap if that’s what you want to do.

And the same argument can be made for Illusionary Leap. In fact, as a mobility skill it’s generally fairly weak – in the time it takes to generate the clone and teleport to it you can usually just run up to the target anyway, and the option to teleport to the clone doesn’t really last long enough to really get a lot out of it. There are tricks you can play with it, but mostly the skill is used for the cripple, immobilise, and clone generation, not for mobility.

Still, it seems we’re agreeing on the broad picture while quibbling over details. My comment regarding water in D/D was mainly to express that D/D grants the ability to back off if you need it (whether going to water, the slightly shorter range of fire, or just exploiting the fact that even the closest range dagger attacks are just out of reach of melee) – if that option to back off isn’t present in any hypothetical future elementalist weapon, the weapon would need to have something to compensate for always needing to be in melee. Revenant potentially has the same thing, but that’s a soldier profession.

Which is why I may roll a revenant and switch mains after nearly 3 years of being an elementalist hardcore, it may very bring the type of gameplay I want and still have that “element swap” in the form of legend swap. I’ll be sad, but I’m very bored with the static and stagnant gameplay that is elementalist and how the burst versions of it just keep getting downplayed. The focus on D/D elementalist as a bruiser/bunker bores me to death, it’s just the same thing for the last 3 years.
