The reason why people complain so much about anything is because its cheap, easy, and most of the time requires absolutely no social responsibility. Basically, its just to hear themselves talk. Mark Twain said, “People who feel the need to complain, have the widest category of issues to choose from”.
It seems the volume of things pointing towards devs, “Fix me fix me!” Huh? I noticed not many folks are really interested in fixing it themselves. Overcome, or move on… either way, the person that chooses to do so has at least made some effort.

TLDR version: Yeah you can do anything, with enough creativity.

If you look up the word Asexual, technically it doesn’t apply. I think the word people are looking for is ‘pansexual’.

I have a norn with the platinum hair pick (the one I’m assuming everyone thinks is white) because its a cultural colour. It kinda makes sense.

For some of you folks that really feel that killing them in the streets for their beliefs is precisely whats going on here, then here are some things to consider:
1. I play mostly charr. Now, the game’s AI does not take that into account. They will treat anyone who comes to the door equally. Charr, or no.
2. As an experiment to see just how far my reading into this could take, I knocked on a door and moved to the middle of the street and put my pet on non-attack mode. My intention was basically knock and run. I had no intention of killing the person exiting their home. They ran out to meet me anyway and began to beat on me. I now understand the plight of mail carriers who have to deal with large animals in order to do their job.
3. Its in self-defense. Attacking someone first because of their beliefs is not a peaceful demonstration but zealotry. Not all activists are peaceful, mindful, and careful about who they are feeling superior to. If they feel they are superior to their own government, then what is the limit to their moral objections? Noting they will openly and collectively engage in mass homicide and the bombing of their home city (which is SOOOO stupid. One should never bomb their own home, for kittens sake.) doesn’t make me feel any amount of pity for them. I’m not saying other people should, but let’s not fool ourselves.
4. Its a game. Pretty self-explanatory there.

I have a lvl 80 charr ranger in the blood legion that had slowly over time become my main. The reason I picked Blood Legion is because of scouting, recon, and the training of Siege Devourers are important to the legion’s resources.
Not all rangers are peaceloving treehuggers either. I try to think of mine as a master of the land. Not trying to become one with the land out of a personal sense of peace and equilibrium, but one that takes ownership of beasts by plying dominance and strength in the hopes to gain self mastery. Since the Charr have destroyed their gods and have a developed mindset about it, it implies that anything the Charr can master, applies to self mastery and destiny. The Charr also have a do or die mentality on progression. It seemed only naturally to me that a Blood Legion Ranger could fall in line with the same attitude quite easily.

Numero uno on my list is actually a two parter: Invulnerability, for no real reason I can fathom, and then by extension – the obstructed issues. Nothing infuriates me more in gameplay then to not be able to damage mobs and people because somehow they turn into super-powered whatevers and you just can’t hurt them. It happens when they are behind something as thin as a sapling (totally NOT full cover) to being in open field, and then not being able to rain down arrows on bad guys when you are strategically within range but on higher ground? That effectively takes away one of the more pragmatic tactics of being a ranged combat based class. It’s kinda lame, and likely the top related reasons why ranger damage is so lackluster.

Wow, lots of haters in this thread. I enjoyed the film, though I’m not a big fan of ganking builds. I do like the fact that someone is actually using snow leapord in PVP though. lol

In a word; yes. I had one for a wee bit. I have a Charr engineer main and wanted to know what sylvari engi was like. I got to about level 25 before realizing I wasn’t going to get anything spectacularly new compared to my first. I doubt, however, that choosing sylvari is a lesser choice then the other races available. All of them offer a lil something.
Tarnished Coast Server
My tip. Don’t make a charr necromancer. You will regret it. Haven’t seen a single charr in light armor that looks amazing.
Please convince me Im wrong. My main is a charr necromancer.
I like how infinitely evil that Catcrafter’s Charr necro looks. Did you even look at that? That’s some pretty solid proof to me at least.
My tip: Play what you wanna play and don’t listen to anyone who’d tell you differently. Looks may matter here, but the quality of play is not going to differ much between necros that are on even numbers. Its mostly how you as a player approach it.

And i think the whole community should show A-Net some respect. Without them you wouldn’t be even playing this game.
Eh, I’d hate to cut hairs with you on this one.. but without Anet i’d also have 2 months back and over a hundred bucks back in my bank. Sorry to play devils advocate, but Anet is just another gaming company. If I choose to be irritated by the developers that are working on the ranger platform, then that’s my business. Anet is only part of the problem. The developers – on the other hand – played a bad card because wording means something. You need to say what you mean and mean what you say, or else stuff like this happens.
Can I offer them some encouragement? Sure! I’d glady let them know. But I can be equally irritated due to setbacks. Absolutely, and I reject any notion that says I am not allowed to speak my peace. Not all negative feedback is trollfuel.

The US military also teaches basic land nav without the technology. they teach you to recognize diections without maps or stars. (basic rules like rising and setting of the sun/moss on trees/counting your steps/correcting your natural gait). astronomy is pretty obsolete unless you go a vast distance because the sky is so huge. And on land there are more reliable ways to get the same results.
The longer distances were my argument for Astronomy. Short trips are not that tough at all, as you have said. Furthermore, the system of roads in Tyria alone can make those short trips even easier.
Tarnished Coast Server
Astrology leading to WMD… now that would be amusing. I think you mean astronomy however.
Uh, yeah.. pardon that. lol

according to this chart, Charr are dead last, so yeah he didn’t make it up.
http://gw2census.com/charts.php?pie=total÷=charrace
I think it has more to do with a sense of cultural identity. It makes sense that more humans would be played since the bulk of the players themselves feel comfortable identifying with it in game.
Whereas, Charr are much harder to get behind because they come off as too warlike and in your face. Only a small portion of the overall demographic can really put themselves into that mindset comfortably. Combine this with some of the ‘features’ of the race that are a little less then normal, and its no wonder Charr come in dead last.
They are a very well thought out race and I am enjoying the story arc from the Charr perspective. I really dig their intro, and the voice acting is rich and textured. I’m really surprised more people don’t play them.
Tarnished Coast Server
Not too far fetched, is it?
Not too far fetched at all in my eyes, and it need not entirely be species based in origin. You could have just been a dreamy eyed Charr that wanted to know what was beyond the dark in the skies, and didn’t need a spiritual or religious experience to contain your ideas about the stars.
Studying astrology could lead to others things as well. Math and Physics I figure are all well entrenched in Charr culture as it relates to engineering and war. This could also provide the gateway to more powerful ballistics and rocketry.
Though I highly doubt Anet had any intentions of sending Charr Rockets into space.
Granted, people in RP do really strange things. There is a huge trend of people right now claiming up land, taverns, and giving themselves arbitrary nobility titles for special snowflake status without any sort of in game structure that allows it. So.. at this point in time, you can pretty much do whatever you like, everyone else is.
/Shrug. Just my two cents.

Any kind of navigation would be terribly problematic without astronomy. I vote yes, they do. It would be pretty much relevant to any kind of long distance travel.
Would they get all gluey eyed over it? Likely not.
Ehhh. The land nav they teach in the U.S. military doesn’t use astronomy. Knowing north south east and west while using landmarks is more intuitive to land nav. Astronomy really shines when there are no land marks. Like on the water.
The US military is also a modern day military that uses computers and satellite networks. Cartography relies heavily upon direction and distance referencing, and without maps you’re shooting in the dark on long trips. Charr should have access to something as simple as a compass, so that + accurate maps should equal success. Astrology would have really lent itself to the beginning of all that.

More information would be helpful. Where are you levelling? Are you wearing appropriate level gear? Do you have a slow system or suffer from poor FPS? Do you experience sudden bouts of narcolepsy? (I kid, but you never know..) Stuff like that.

Emikochan, I jokingly challenge you to light yourself on fire and then recording the results. You’ll likely find its quite a bit harder then you suggest. You are not incorrect, but the amount of temperature needed is much higher then a conventional flame. Heating something to the point of burning or boiling is one thing, but to actually catch a body on fire takes quite a bit more exposure.
It is recorded you need a temperature in excess of 1.6k F or 871 C. That temperature is not easy to come by.
Not everyone is a fatty either. =P
Tarnished Coast Server
Don’t consider this a flamebait, but if by ‘creepy’ you mean that I like to form my own opinions based upon what I see instead of what I read on forums, then i’ll take your assessment as a compliment.
I was actually already there doing something else. It only took few minutes of standing around to see how misguided the OP is.

Am I the only one that actually likes scepter and torch? =]

I wanted to play a Sylvari for one reason and one reason only. I wanted to play a race that can be so psychologically different then any other race in the game. They seem naive but they have fresh opinions and are quite astute, even if some of their ideas are ludicrous – due to a much less internally socially pressured society.
Which can lead to just as many creepy connotations as they have brilliant ones.

When I was in the those zones, Asura were testing all kinds of really strange things and coming up with the most bizarre results. I’ve overheard the one you’re talking about, and find it about as unplausible as the others. I wouldn’t take any of it as being 100% true.

In light of this thread, I went out to the Charr starting area to watch new players rolling charrs.
Its still happening. People are still making Charr.

I have a Murellow named Stinkmeaner.

Garrik Smokeshot. 10/10. You get mad points for being named after my favourite character in Star Trek DS9, and Smokeshot is a good solid surname for an engineer.
I have lots of Charr, but i’m only going to do this one more time.
Kurn Ghostblade. He’s my blood legion ranger, from the Blade warband. I didn’t pick that warband name, but I went with it. Kurn chose Ghost as his warband surname because its his job to run supply trains through treacherous territory, and are not meant to be found. Ironically, he’s also named after a Star Trek character (Worf’s brother, played by Tony Todd)

My boar is Yeltsin
Was I the only one to get that reference?

Ash Legion. Engineer. If it can be seen from space, it might have been me. You just can’t prove it.

( not to derail this thread, but I realize the error on my part. Nine Devils is actually his nickname. )

I loved my Gorilla in WoW. I named it Humpy. No one likes a Humpy Monkey slapping them about. The trollrage it generated was rather hilarious.

“I’ve been ignited!” Doesn’t sound right either, despite being correct. Bodies are not easy to burn as they are comprised mostly from water.
“Ive been set ablaze!” sounds really silly.

“The Pale Tree took nourishment from that soil, and therefore, the sylvari are predisposed to be shaped in a humanoid manner.”
Taken directly from the wiki, so it is considered Lore. Also, be sure you are not confused in the difference between the meanings of both words ‘Theory’ and ‘Hypothesis’.

It doesn’t burn because it’s a plant…
I don’t think you really thought that statement through. /squint.
Regular torches are made from wood. Cloth is made from plant fibers.

I’m a fan of viking history. My family comes all the way from Denmark. Anakka Svaarblade sounds spot on. Very old icelandic. I give it a 10/10.
Brise Svärdvind. Its swedish in origin. I actually had someone in game ask me if I was swedish IRL.
Tarnished Coast Server
Khallum Feralblade, i rate at an 8/10. Good solid legionnaire name, but nothing especially stand out about it.
Nine Devils. He is an independant Charr engineer, released from formal service within the Ash Legion in order to pursue global goals related to the defeating of Zhaitan’s horde as they march across Tyria. Sounds like a boring job? Yes, but it involves multicultural intrigues and napalming undead in all their forms! Muahaha!
Tarnished Coast Server
There are actually several types of mythological cat creatures that came up in my google search. Might wanna start there.
Tarnished Coast Server
Might I suggest the use of asuran gates? Kinda a no-brainer, dude.
Tarnished Coast Server
I have so many charr toons, that its hard for me to do them on the smaller races.
Tarnished Coast Server
I support femchars!
Tarnished Coast Server
I’d love to be able to summon Dinky and the crew. That would be some elite backup.

The female stance is actually correct, the male wrong, at least from a Samurai’s point-of-view. Observe:
Show that to your niece, tell her her character is doing it the pro way, the males are all doing it like no-skill brawlers who think they’re holding a baseball bat.
I wanted to bring up that very clip. That stance is an actual stance used in swordplay, and not just in kenjutsu either.
Tarnished Coast Server
The Charr are a furred race, not ‘Furries’. If you think that this:
http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-11/gw2-charr-cannon.html
is the same as this:
http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/violenthearts/A_new_day_starts_with_you_by_Pimp_S.jpg
Then the problem is not Charr. Its you.

Pigs are not entirely bad. My experience with them is mainly PvE. The forage ability I find quite useless, true. However, and this is NOT a selling point but occasionally pigs get a charge and a knockdown in. Its saved me more then once. I wish that ability was the F2 more then forage. Forage has a small chance to get items that are situationally useful, but mostly are garbage. The chance to get the nicer items are not high enough in my opinion. But, I would not put them at the VERY bottom.
My vote? Devourers. Don’t take them on missions that require discretion. You will be disappointed every time. 9 times out of 10 they tend to gain more aggro then you wanted to avoid because their burrow ability often puts them precisely where you never want them to be. This is on top of stupid pet AI issues.
