Despite whats present, they have a very dryad feel to them. But, I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Despite how close to human they appear, I find them to be a rather interesting lot.

Thats because its an unenlightented response to a way of life around the world that has been around since people. You’d think after a couple of thousand years, people would be over this by now.
Ignorance and prejudice are a scary thing if you let it win.

I don’t enjoy cut and dry themes like Good versus Evil, unless the game is based entirely around it. None of the races are inherently evil. The game seems to push the idea that the story is driven from a heroic point of view.
The dragons would appear to be evil, but evil has a point of view. They are destroying the world, but i’ve yet to see if that is just their purpose and they are fulfilling a cycle.. or if they are doing it because of survival reasons, or they are just plain mad.

I have:
Kurn Ghostblade – Ranger
Faustus Wymblade – Guardian
Durga Scornblade – Necro
Vex Quickblade – Thief
Nine Devils – Engineer
In addition to two others, whom are not my toons:
Fera Beastblade – Ranger
Tesh Whiteblade – Guardian
I attribute the name Nine Devils to a nickname. In RP he actually has a regular warband name.

I honestly think it looked terrible and the hype was really overinflated, but that’s just me. Why is this in the Thief forum?

I gotta friend of mine I end up teaming with more regularly then not. Maybe it has quite a bit to do with the team cohesion we have, but my engi + anything he plays is a really good combo. Most of the time its my engi + his ele. I noticed this in almost every situation but in dungeons, that our combined tactical makeup seems to compliment each other quite well between dps AOE, heal AOE, and point defense.

because you failed to read the lore.

I have suggested this to my friends.
I would love to have a Marmox Pet. They look armored and mean. They have horns. Kinda kitten looking in some ways, but so are Murellows and they are a pretty cool pet too.
My second choice would be a Bat. I’d take it to PVP with me so I can watch people emorage every time it flaps all over their faces.
I thought about the Honey Badger forever ago, but they sorta look like smaller versions of the Arctodus.

That could be a viable answer. lol. That being said, I don’t think I could look to a game company to find quality romance entertainment.
Tarnished Coast Server
Uh, those were completely optional scenes. No Bioware game has ever forced anyone to deal with homosexual scenes without giving the player chances to get out.
Most of that rage came from people who were curious about that part of the storyline and either played it through (or youtubed it) and then were horrified by the results. These people never accepted responsibility for their own part in it.
Tarnished Coast Server
Avoiding the subject of your grammar and spelling, I’ll move onto what I did understand.
Just so you know, historically a necromancer was never evil. In fact, necromancy started off as an altruistic hoax that was cooked up by religious folk to give closure to the living over the problems of dealing with death in the family.
If you want REAL necromancer in your necromancer, I suggest studying the ancient greeks.
However, that being said… since you like the thematic approach to the evil deathmongering, cursing, and undead raising warlock types. Yes, I will agree that theme is only minimally present in game. That theme was perpetuated by gaming companies, and hollywood. Honestly, I dislike that theme but I can completely understand why some people actively look for it.
If you want complete truthfulness here, the personal storyline does not cater to ANY particular class. The story can lend itself to your personal class choice, but rarely rarely does it even come close to being thematically in line.
As for the problems with the class itself: I can’t speak for. I’ve never played one past level 10 because it just doesn’t fit me.

Brains are a massive advantage, though.
Honestly, to me the winner of the duel would be the one that had the most skill and experience, and the most desire to exploit openings. Since there is no real hard pressed criteria i’d have to assume both are on even standing. Then, the only thing left would be just how skilled they are.
But, as it was pointed out.. this is not a fight contest, but a contest of raw strength. Its hard to argue the boulder lift that was demonstrated. Though, just because it wasn’t pictured that the Charr have above average strength (which I think they absolutely do, have you seen their necks?!?!) that doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of feats of strength.

The humans have no arsenal on their use except medium raw power, channeled through punches, kicks and grips.
Not true. Norns have teeth and can have claws (though not necessarily as tough or as effective as some animals). If you don’t believe its possible, then its obvious you’ve not really seen what people can really do. I was in semi-professional MMA for several years. I have been bitten and scratched many many times by people (to the point of bleeding too), despite it being against the rules.
Also, i’d like to point out that there are several animals that just plain humans can take out. People are far smarter tactically when it comes to dealing with onery animals. There are tribes all over the world that have taken out deadly snakes, reptiles, mammals, and even hunting cats without the benefit of modern civilization either.

I made one of my sylvari my second engineer. It seemed the logical choice for me because they are a race of people very big into exploration and discovery. Mind you, my engineer’s personality will be somewhat warped in an RP sense. After all, the race is also somewhat inexperienced by comparison to the centuries that the other races boast.
Besides, the ‘tree hugging sylvari’ mold was completely blown to the wind when I watched Caithe murder an unarmed person to cover her trail. I wont go into detail but later I find out that was just the tip of the iceberg too. The Sylvari are in the same existential crisis that all the other races are, despite how they are presented.

Some folks are for more sensitive to the issue of homosexuality in games then others.
I am not gay, but as I find inspiration for those who are, I look to the articles that were widespread over the homosexuality encountered in Mass Effect. Despite all the details about the atrocities committed over the scope of the entire story, people will still get upset over the completely optional gay spooning scene. That scene was also not a defining moment in the story either, nor was it mandatory to play in it. People were even sleeping with aliens long before they had the option to have a completely homosexual option either.
As a tangent; If Freddie Mercury came back to life, saved the entire universe from total destruction but somehow managed to spoon a few men along the way.. I say rock on Freddie!

Owl – Count Snackula (it picks off random insects, bunnies, and rats…)
Crimson Moa – Tudez

As confusing as the Citadel is to some, I can’t say I agree. Out of all the reasons I could possibly think of, the Citadel is nowhere near the top. There are plenty of other reasons why people may reject playing Charr.

now were talking one on one combat situation, cuz an enventual war might goto the legions, just my 2 cents
I don’t understand what this is supposed to mean.
In one on one combat, even Bruce Lee said you cannot determine the outcome of a fight based always upon what you see. And even great boxers can loose matches due to things that are not physical related. Everyone can have a off day, even warriors. Sometimes, all you have to do is break a warrior’s spirit to win a fight.
As a secondary note: The Legions, as they are.. are in no major place to start a war with anyone but the dragons. They are boxed off on three sides, and the only spitting room they have is to the north. The only way the Charr are going to continue doing what they have been classically known to do, is to play nice for now. Once the dragons are dealt with, you can bet that old rivalries can and will return. As a whole, that would be very typical of human behaviour. In the game, I’d like the Charr to find a way to integrate themselves into the new society once their war with the dragons has ended, and still maintain their nationalism.

Everyone can solo in Orr, if they know what they are doing. There are some major differences between Orr and the rest of the zones, but you can eventually oversome that with terrain knowledge and keeping your eyes open for certain mobs. Some choke points are even harder to overcome then others, when soloing.
That being said, its not an easy place for most to get used to. Orr can potentially be enfuriating for some players. Time-in helps quite a bit.
Tarnished Coast Server
These are just merely examples off the top of my head. Agree with them or not, that’s completely okay and I like to promote differentials like that. I don’t think myself or any one forumer should pigeonhole any legionnaire. I took it upon myself to help broaden player horizons by offering a bit of a (I laugh but..) a ‘realistic’ view of military structure in a fantasy setting. That being said, someone who’s served in the military could even expand upon my ideas quite a bit. I’d welcome the opportunity, honestly.
About the anti-magic bias; for philosophical reasons.. I can’t get into that argument. It would be like saying all (insert racial slur here) are bad because you saw a couple steal a car. I really don’t like to give creedance to that way of thinking. I can certainly understand a situation could arise where you are in a warband with a caster, and (for the sake of argument) they were reckless and casual with their magic. This could be a problem for the warband. In which case it puts the burden of reliability on casters to pull their weight and be responsible with their chosen path. These issues can be handled early in Fahrars, but yeah.. being around someone who throws reckless magic about? Oh hell yeah, I’d have to pull rank on em in a heartbeat. I could see that there could be a problem with the number of failed gladium casters in that regard. I however, can’t speak for the entirety of the Legions themselves. I think outcomes in those regards are a bit deeper then the game seems to project.
As a correcting mechanism, I agree with you.. and the lore only furthers it. Magic is not a guarantee of rank, but I do think it allows greater opportunities for a specialist position.
As for the argument of warrior versus guardian… Yes, it would complete sense to take a tested warrior over an untested guardian. That being said, I personally would rather take a hardened Thief, over an untested warrior for bodyguard reasons. So, given the broad gap you have illustrated, that line of reasoning can go anywhere.
I do however, cannot see a need to engage in classism against the Guardian over something classically overdone as sketchy as say… a Necromancer. Although not stated, guardians seem to be modeled after warriors of code. If Guardians are that very thing, then I defer them back to ‘use magic responsibility or be just as dead as that fool…’ sorta mentality.
Furthermore, I’ve never killed a bandmate with friendly fire so… no need to deal with the implications should they never arise..

I think what many people are forgetting is that the differences between a real world economy and a gaming economy are not entirely the same. They share some similaries, but there are still key factors that skew the final result.
1. Anyone who has played the TP can tell you that in certain markets, you have to be on the ball because the demand is higher then the target supply. This being the case with Ectos because that is an extremely active market.
2. Crafting is something that any toon can do. In the real world, not everyone can take a bunch of bolts of cloth and make something out of it with a press of a button. Demand is higher because there is a far greater amount of players that can process the mats into desired items.
3. Anything found in its raw state has potential to help multiple crafting professions. This broadens the market demand by quit a bit.
4. Crafted items fit only a niche market by comparison. Whereas an insignia only helps armor crafters, the stuff used to make said insignia has the potential to be far more useful then the final product. This is due to the potential usefulness of the mats over a broader demand market.
5. People forget that active markets are not a ‘set-and-forget’ pricing standard.
6. This is one of the most heavily populated MMO’s I can think of. I don’t think people really realize the scope of how active the market really is. In a recent headline, there were over 2 billion copies of this game sold. For the sake of argument, even if 50% of that group stayed, and 50% of that group understood and actively used the TP, thats still quite a hefty amount of mercantile going on. And, since the server doesn’t matter, it directly affects your outcome.
7. I don’t enjoy being the one to say this, but botters are not the biggest part of the problem. If all the bots stopped producing mats for everyone, I garantee you that the prices will not drop significantly. In fact, the cost of mats will skyrocket due to the supply reaching a low.
8. Not everyone is a market genius, nor are they fast enough to compete. Make sure to accept your own blame if you mess up a purchase or a sale. Clicking on items you are not sure about is not the fault of the TP system. Its your own fault you weren’t paying attention. I understand not everyone has a fast machine, or has problems loading the TP, but griefing a healthy system is not going to get you what you want. And by furthering that dishonesty you just wanna grief for the sake of burning everything down.. please throw yourself down the nearest elevator shaft.
This is just 8 items that skew the current TP system, out of the few weeks I’ve been accessing it for longer then a few hours a week. I can easily project that there is quite a bit more I haven’t seen yet.

Sionnagh, Sylvari Engineer – Cycle of Noon.
My sylvari is as every bit the Valiant as the story suggested, but I often feel that in his dreams the world is much wackier and surreal like in Terry Gilliam films or in a place like Discworld. When I click on my elixir gun, I often think that instead of the poison sprayer, he shoots hot liquid sugar all over the bad guys. Do you have any idea how painful it is to have boiling hot sugar throw at you? Its on par with flaming pitch. Sugar is also cheaper to produce then napalm. I often feel like a violent Willy Wonka. In addition, I also selected a body and facial style of sylvari that suggests I wanted him to look as inhuman as possible.
Imaginative solutions for common and uncommon problems! Thinking outside of the box to ensure the safety of all the races of Tyria!

You can be a black Norn too. It’s gone viral how many Mr. T Norn Mohawks I’ve seen.
Tarnished Coast Server
in my most humble opinion, i’m in agreement here with the norn faces.. but man, the human ones are way worse. When I first rolled a human female toon, the first red light that went up was wondering just how much pedofuel that Anet was offering.
The Norn females are only slightly better off in that category. Still, the Norn Females have also adult looking faces as well. I also considered that Norn Male faces were not as rugged as I would have liked. So many of them are more biker-ish then viking. The faces also seem to not match their voices. I’d rather have the Vigil Warmaster’s voice for my male Norns.
I also, for the sake of my own perceptions, reloaded Skyrim for a moment to compare Norns versus Nords. I gotta admit that the Nords from Skyrim seem far more manly and less cartoony. This is just my own opinion, however.

haha, nicely done. I would just imagine that thieves among the Norn just have different approaches. After all, it’s not really stealing to a Norn if the bad guy lets you walk away with his prized and mostly unguarded possessions.

In conclusion, these are basic concepts I feel that are easy to understand. These representations do not break Charr lore, despite some of these seeming to be illogical fits. If there is one thing I cannot deny, is that there is a serious nod to Charr ingenuity. It might not be as pretty as Sylvari, or as technical as Asuran, but they do hold the top mandate of being efficient and practical. The Charr build things to last through battlefields, firestorms, and ghost invasions. It is no wonder that so many NPC’s give a nod to Charr technical prowess in game. If you can imagine how wonderous it must be to produce the most tenacious military in game, imagine for yourself also what must go on behind the scenes to keep that massive engine running. Its samurai level brainwashing that the Charr portray mixed with Roman level civil engineering. That is a recipe for greatness, even if only done in a fantasy setting.
Its no wonder I like them so much.

Moving onto the Blood Legion! This particular post will most likely be the most common perceptions that one may find within the Charr legions. As a point of clarification for some folks, diversity is important in maintaining a healthy military. Without computer engineers, scientists, weapon developers, medical staff, quartermasters, and all the constituents a country may provide.. military prowess will likely behind first world nations. Extrapolate that idea as necessary.
Blood Legion Warrior: This Charr is the spearhead of any assault. Whether it is to charge in, or to brace against a charge.. this is the Charr for the duty. The Blood Legion could arguably called the greatest of all the Charr infantry. In practice, however, they are not just infantry. You can find Blood Legions manning mortars and gun emplacements. Whether it is a commissioned or non-commissioned officer in the Blood Legion, no one will deny that the Warrior can fill these rolls.
Blood Legion Guardian: I see many of the Guardians to be an elite cadre, not unlike the Praetorian Guard of ancient Roman times. I can also see Guardians being the sergeants of their warbands. Easily, one can also feel they can assume roles of the military police of the Blood Legion as well. These roles can be filled by any of the other professions, but Guardian seems a pretty efficient and logical first choice.
Blood Legion Engineer: For every fort and bunker that has been blown apart by the Blood Legion, there is a need to salvage that fortification or fix or even improve certain strategic locations. This is where their engineer core comes in. No one can deny that the Iron Legion has the corner of the market here, but the Blood Legion can’t always afford to stand around and wait for the Iron Legion to actually arrive. Blood Legion artillery units also often need routine maintenance, while Blood Legion engineers can improve and/or re-purpose outdated models.
Blood Legion Ranger: The forward Vanguard of the Blood Legion needs scouts and infiltrators as well. The Blood Legion employs siege devourers for most of their low cost artillery options, and the Ranger knows not only how to breed them, but keep them in line. It is a pretty scary thing when one of them goes apekitten and starts to destroy the fortress its meant to protect.
Blood Legion Thief: When brute force wont do it during the day, Thieves make best use of night combat. While considered somewhat skulky, night missions are sometimes needed to ensure success. After all, its hard to aim artillery off of the bulwark if certain targets are not properly tagged in the field. Thieves are the Charr you call on. They can get in, mark their targets, and when the kitten storm hits they will be on the fringe – picking off the survivors or the runners.
Blood Legion Elementalist: While the bulk of Charr forces might disdain the thought of the gods controlling their actions, there is no argument that supports that the Charr cannot command the elements. The scorching ruins left behind on past battlefields were not always the doings of Iron Legion cannon fire. The power of the storms of destruction kicked up by Blood Legion elementalists are a brutal display of that.
Blood Legion Mesmer: Considered something of an anomaly, the Blood Legion do not routinely make use of Mesmers in the field. The brutal forces that occupy their ranks however, need strong commanders and cunning strategists, and often need distractionary techniques in order to outmaneuver. This is where the Blood Legion makes the best use of their magic. Mesmers also known to be among the highest military historians among the Charr. After all, one may not only recall the details of past glories, but can also summon illusory constructs of battlefields to theorize on new strategies.
Blood Legion Necromancer: The Blood Legion has no qualms about allowing Necromancers into their fold. In fact, a minority of Charr hold a belief that even in death they can still serve their still-breathing comrades. While this is not a commonly held belief, no one can deny how useful dead soldiers can be when they get up to continue fighting. It is often upon Necromancers to detail funerals and other ceremonial functions as they relate to the glorious fallen. Necromancers possess more knowledge about bodies (living or dead) that they also make natural choices for apothecaries and field medics.
