Does ANET punish individuals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

The effort and coding to affect any given individuals loot is prob something way to convoluted and time consuming to bother with and for absolutely no gain or reason whatsoever.

So, ultimately…it is luck. I’ve been on both ends of what you have experienced. It’s exactly how rng works. As for magic find, anecdotally I find marginally more rares and exotics as time passes, but I can’t throw a stat at you to say I am % better off. It also doesn’t work on chests/champ boxes.

Put the drops back into the game.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

They just recently upped the drop rates on black lion keys. Sure it’s still very low, but it is something. They only pulled loot away from areas which would cause ppl to farm in a bad way, like the PS or events where failing or manipulating to get more mobs and thus more loot. Lets not go back to the days when ppl ignored Jormag just to farm his champs. Silverwastes works without drops because you get rewarded for the completion of the event – exactly how it should be.

So drops are still in game and mostly as abundant as ever.

Doesn’t mean the discussion on loot quality or RNG shouldn’t continue though..

Randulf.7614

Shouldn’t this have a spoiler tag on it..? Not everyone wants to know this about Mordy and are waiting for the expac to hit before knowing about the effect on Sylvari’s…

To the OP’s point, it would be complete lore and immersion breaker for non-sylvari’s to hear his voice since he is commanding the sylvari specifically to do his bidding. That would make no sense to an non-sylv character since they can’t be turned..

Who are you asking? The devs wont confirm any post HoT plans on the forums and the community wont have the answer to this.

What sort of update are you expecting? We know the core zones aren’t scheduled for additional updates beyond the new map reward system, but that’s about it.

Do you mean because it will be harder to complete due to less players?

Thx for the post Colin! So many people are statistically misinformed on so many levels.

Erm he told us nothing of any real meaning in relation to the point he responded to.

I don’t know, below sounds like a near direct answer to the post he was responding too.

The current system is making the player base smaller by the minute.

Nope.

No that was a half truth. New player population grown from new f2p model. That’s not the same thing. Since the vets numbers have gone down, and over time the new f2p players will as well.

Half truth still equal half lie.

If you read the whole post, it was growing before it went free, focussing on the first and last part of the sentence, not just the middle.

PvP has steadily grown in population and play hours going on nearly a year now. It’s sky-rocketed since the game went free, and the two weeks before this have been our best weeks literally since the week the game launched

It just strikes me odd that it’s an update that’s not mandatory for everyone. so some areas and maps will be exclusive for Heart of thorns buyers?
I’m a bit confused about how it works.

That is exactly right and fundamentally how an expansion works. It also means those who don’t purchase the expansion wont have access to the content in all subsequent updates and stories since the expansion is mandatory to for progression.

You could in theory play the core game and areas forever and never upgarde. You just wont ever progress beyond what currently exists right now.

A tick box that says “do not show this message again” would solve this for all sides

No, it wouldn’t. An annoyingly large fraction of players would click this the first time they spend more than a few shards. Then, 3 days later, they would complain that they didn’t get a warning message.

No one likes being slowed down by a message, until the first time they accidentally buy an extra something — and then everyone wants it.

(Mind you, I personally prefer fewer warnings and having individuals take more responsibility for their own mistakes. However, not every player is as overly cautious as I am about spending and so I can’t really argue against ANet’s choice to offer more warnings.)

Well then it is their fault 100% then if they choose to unclick the box. Can’t hand hold people forever.

Mats will be farmable on all maps (tier will depend on map level) when HoT goes live. It is part of the new map rewards scheme.

GW1’s final expac Eye of the North set up Primordus. It doesn’t really touch on the Elder Dragons beyond that (some prequel stuff for Svanir and Drakkar as well). It just sets up what is to come later and introduces some early lore for them to build on.

As for Tequatl, we were told shortly after his re-launch we would get an explanation for his increase in power. Much like a few strands from S1, this was either dropped or forgotten about.

[Suggestion] Bring back 1-time events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I can understand that coding events do take precious time away from Devs. But what I’m wondering is why there seems to be hate for the idea of Anet trying to please a segment of their player base? Again, this game is mostly Casual friendly. The dedicated, Hardcore player base is getting Raids, I understand. But unique 1-time events would be Open World, and anyone who logs in at that time can participate. The only prerequisite to this is that they need to be on when it happens. This by no means discriminates between Casuals and Hardcores. The only thing that separates the two would be that Hardcores will arrange their real life schedules to make it: i.e. taking vacation days, finding a babysitter, stocking up on snacks, reschedule anniversary dinners (yes I’ve done this, God Bless my wife).

To use a real life example, think of 1-time events like having free tickets to the Super Bowl or the World Cup finals. The game doesn’t repeat over and over (DVRing don’t count). You can’t ask the teams to play again simply because you couldn’t make it. If you make it to the game, you get the great feeling of “being there”. You get unique rewards, like rushing the field and taking the game ball home when no one is looking. If you don’t make it to the game, life goes on, and you can hear about from your friends.

For what possible purpose? Who does this actually benefit? The overwhelming feedback was for these things not to occur again. It doesn’t benefit the game by wasting dev time on it as has been said. Casuals want fairness, hardcore want raids and challenging content (which is not related to one time event)

So it comes down to if you are lucky enough to be able to be on at exactly the right time. I’m failing to understand why this is a good thing and why resources should be allocated to something which the community has overwhelming been against since Karka and through S1

You should be doing the 1 at a time recipe. This will increase your number of attempts which will cause your results to be closer to the expected average outputs.

By doing the 10 at a time recipe, you’ve cut your number of attempts to 1/10 which makes you much more susceptible to variance.

But..the thrill!! Think of the thrill man!!

Think of the GW1 locations we could be sent to find. Imagine going to the Priory and being sent on a “lore quest” which involves finding something in dungeons or JPs or from specific vendors in the open world. Or by visiting libraries in other towns.

Hundreds, upon hundreds of possibilities using a system popular and that has worked already – I typed that up in less than a minute whilst fighting a Breach boss. Now imagine what a real developer and imaginative storyteller could do.

I think the way Mawdrey and the Karka hunt and also the Marriners Plaque achievement should be the way they continue to plug lore during “downtimes” rather than traditional quests. These fit the game much better and as Marriner showed, can really highlight the lore in exceptional ways.

And are 10x more fun imo.

Interesting! So put in more pieces of lore scattered about the world – maybe hidden in dialogue – and possibly set up an Achievement track to reward searching them out?

I see no reason why not. Let people search for them who want them and be rewarded for it. I thoroughly enjoyed looking for the Plaques after Sea of Sorrows and using the book rather than Dulfy to find them.

More of that is welcome
