Ascended is an extremely long and dedicated thing to get – I would dismiss the idea of getting it at this stage, it is completely unneccessary and the vast majority of players wont have a complete set anyway. To maximise your rewards to get Ascended will require intense grind or months of casual play in the level 80 pve zones. Plus ensuring you get every day’s login rewards (there are some ascended mats in the cycle)

Too much has changed/added/removed in over 2 years, but Id prob sell all the stuff you arent sure of or ditch it into a bank. I can’t imagine it’s actually that much stuff being given to you, beyond some birthday stuff.

I don’t intend to on my mains. I don’t feel like they lack anything and I’m happy with the set ups they have. I’m not big on swapping around builds, esp with no build saving – an essential tool which must exist for that to happen.

My fringe toons though, will prob get some elites. Reaper for my necro for certain and chrono for mesmer.

Maybe, but we had to wait 3 years for class improvement Which is far worse than what new players have to suffers.
New players have a wealth of content ahead to level with and enjoy plus if they are truly desperate, there is a month a half to level to 80 and be ready.

This is intended as level 80 progression and should remain kitten.

I think , and that was once my idea that I presented also in the CDIs is, that Fractals of the Mists needs to be improved by adding a different Mode to it and differentiatign that new mode by what you play.

The current Fractals of the Mist – lets call it for now the “Dimension of Broken Memories” (DBM) lets us replay Parts of Tyrias’s Past in the view of our Characters, like we would simpley experience something that we have done already in the past again, or experience somethign with our characters from the past, where we haven’t even maybe lived at that point.

But what I would love to see is another mode for Fractals of the Mist – lets called this one “Heroic Monuments of History” (HMH)

Under this mode we would play our Characters, the gameplay would be flipped and now instesad of our Characters we play inm this Mode other Characters from special Moments of Tyrias History (suggested this in the past as Heroic Fractals to keep it simply)
What I want to have in GW2 is with this gameplay Mode in the Fractals of the Mist to have an alternative, which works exactly like the concept of the Bonus Mission Pack of GW1.

It was unique, it was rewarding and it was simply somethign different as experience to play not your own character, but to see things out of the view from someone else, how certain events of the past happened and what they felt at that time ect.

Main inspiration for this Idea were the Guild Wars Novels 1 and 2. Ghosts of Ascalon and Destiny’s Edge.
Both are great books with awesome story and I absolutely believe, it would be super awesome, if we would have with this alternative Game Mode a way to completely replay those books in several split chapters that work as various different instanced parts that you can enter as a 5 Man Group where by random each has to play a role of a different NPC, or a little system allows the group to decide first, who plays as which NPC, before you enter the Instance.

In Ghosts of Ascalon players could for example play then as

Dougal – Thief
Riona – Guardian
Gullik – Warrior
Ember – Elementalist
Krannx – Engineer

Killeen stays unplayable either or becomes in certain parts a optional choice and then any of the not chosen NPC gets played by the game AI.
With the last part being a Solo Part due to Riona

Rewards then could be BMP style:

  • Weapon Skins from those Characters unique Weapons
  • Armor Skins from those Characters unique Armors
  • Minipets from Dougal & Co.
  • Guild Hall Decorations based of the Stories Theme
    ect. pp

In regyard of post story, I think it would be awesome if some of the GoA characters that still lare possible would get integrated more into the living story and in general now with HoT

they are already heroes, they should have somewhere i nthe game and story again an active spot.

I’d love to see Killeen to return for example as a Necromancer Hero for Stronghold.

There she could offer these 3 Abilities:

Call > Returning Horror > On call every dead or downed player gets instantly revived and enemies in the near get a 3s long not removeable special fear and torment and bleeding
Movement > Way of Darkness > Enemies in her Movement Aura get periodically blinded and Allies leech health with attacks
Lord Room > Bloodbath > Summons several Bloody Reavers that create on their summon fields for some time Blood Springs that periodically heal allies while they drain Enemy Endurance. The Reavers themself protect Killen and deal ranged attacks whenever Killeen gets hit to heal her with their attacks.

Love it as a fractal idea

Randulf.7614

I’m getting headaches. To much orange and green. Only colors really on the screen

The colour palette has kinda hit me too. TBH it’s a jungle and to be expected, but I think the smoke effects are washing the colour a lot, blurring things out which isn’t helping. The fps issues will also be coming from the smoke for many people.

I fed back about smoke effects being too much last bwe, they instead seem to be even more present now.Added with the higher level of gfx detail and particle effets flying off everywhere, the smoke/mist is just an extra layer too much for my eyes. It’s also distilling the night effects somewhat which is a shame.

Above and beyond, but you might want to define your criteria. Some of the things I like, you may well have issues with. Likewise, I have grievances that you might have be able to overlook.

Overall, I am looking forward to full release. It feels very different at times to the core game, although not necs in a bad way. Mob design, ai, graphics, level design are all a different direction from launch.

Verdant Brink Map Concerns

Randulf.7614

I completely agree with your first point, especially in this half of the map at least.

If this is just one map though then that is fine with me. I have no issue with one maze like, pathway dominated zone. Especially when the canopy and roots arent open to explore yet.

If all the zones are like this…its going to be heavy going.

On the plus side, the places to explore and delve are mind blowing compared to other maps. I love just leaping off and gliding to random structures and areas!

Keep in mind, that might not be a problem after launch. I have a feeling that elite specs will be locked behind a content wall in the live version, so while you might be able to play as a Revenant during that story chapter, I bet you won’t be able to play as a Herald, so Glint would be new.

Where have the indicated a content wall for specs? My understanding was they would unlock auto when hitting 80

Nope. They’re like any other specialization, except elite. They’ll require hero points. How many for the entire suite is anyone’s guess.

Apologies that was what I meant. Hero points rather than content and hero points.

Why Anet did u made mobs easier . WHY!!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Randulf.7614

I’ve heard from friends, who were decimated by the previous beta’s trash mobs, that they can comfortably deal with them now. I can’t really play until Sunday, but having found the original incarnations balanced and engaging… I’m really worried about what kind of easy mode I’ll be facing.

It needs to be challenging but not so much that most of the playerbase cant get past. Thats what the raid is for.

Or most of the playerbase could sacrifice some of their 100% offence and use some defensive skills? Or move every now and then instead of mashing number keys? Or look for their mistakes in defeat, learn from them and improve? I’m not trying to be horrible, but stuff like not standing in the Mordrem Snipers’ projectile trail for several ticks is a simple way to encourage players to be more active in combat. If you just stand there, yes you’ll die.

As for the raid part… even without the holy trinity, raids bar a lot of players simply by design. Time constraints, larger group size requirements, etc will likely make raids impossible for me. So far, the only content I’ve faced with the right balance of difficulty, accessibility and fun have been the gauntlet (without using cheese builds for each fight) and the previous betas. I’m not asking for everything in every part of the game to be like those, but I wouldn’t mind content that I can both access and enjoy.

You are right in part, people must adapt their builds, although it will be a very steep and sudden learning curve for some. What im saying is, they dont need to make it harder…it is at the right level now.

You will see when you play yourself tomorrow, but these are not the same mobs for the most part and the density isnt a case of bouncing from one veteran smokescale, to another and then into a giant dinosaur and then some mordrem.

Also, skilled players learn quick, and will have adapted faster than the rest of us and naturally will find things easier. But the game still needs to take the wider view and find the middle ground where it can for open world.

What to do about the fog?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Unfortunately not. The fog/smoke/steam effects were a major fps issue for me last bwe, to the point of being almost unplayable. Ive since bought a better pc and removed the issue (altho top end sliders on the gfx are something i cant get away with even still because of it).

I played with every option all that weekend and came to the same conclusion you did

I BW1 the silvary kicked and dodge. The small raptors dispersed, The smokedogs have those cool skills. The mushrooms were difficult because of they numbers and skills that combined made nice encounters.

I haven’t see any of the sorts today. Let’s see tomorrow.

Havent seen most of the other mobs except the Hylek, but these guys you mention in this part are still the same as far as i can tell in the new area. Ive seen and experienced enough challenging battles.

Whilst there is likely some valid feedback to your post, the area needs to be kept in balance. It needs to be challenging but not so much that most of the playerbase cant get past. Thats what the raid is for. I like the difficulty as it is…but im under no illusions many are not happy with how hard it is and any harder will alienate too many players.

If you mean your progression isn’t saving from your beta to your main account and that you can’t use your main characters in the beta area…well yes, that’s true and exactly how it is intended to be and how betas work.

The idea is to test out the map, not get early access for your main account. When the expansion goes lve, absolutely nothing you have done in beta maps will carry over and will all be wiped.

You cannot use your exisitng charcters. You create designated beta ones excluisvely for the beta weekends.

You can use some of the tools to attempt to recreate your (trans stones, the exotic gear they give etc), but you cannot use your existing chaarcters and no progression will save to the main game

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Ive noticed textures not loading in correctly or late. Usually on vines and rocks. Prob just a beta thing though.

Not sure what’s really going on this section of the map – it lacks the direction part 1 had (ie now we’re fighting Hylek rather than interacting?). Now this could easily be because we’re thrown in “halfway” so to speak, and with no Personal Story, that could explain the lack of direction and the feeling of running around aimlessly in an area which is just a maze of pathways.

It also feels claustrophobic due to it being just pathways. Now this might be intentional as an atmospheric thing, in which case, that has worked.

Some of these will pob work themselves out in the live game when the story, the roots, the canopy and all the masteries gradually unlock and opens the jungle out. That’s something I’m really looking forward to – I can already glimpse possible nooks and crannies I want to explore!
