There are some really good examples of cleaver use of boss mechanics in the Guild Bounties, though most people don’t notice them. One Example is Sootz who sits in a ring of Achohol which you need to knock him out of to do significant damage. Bosses in GW2 are not immune to CC like some people think. They have a defiant buff that needs to be worn down so that a CC can work. Once all stacks of Defiant are removed you can do one CC and then it’s reset. The Sootz fight relies of people wearing away the buff and then hitting him with a Knockback, which does involve some communication between the team, if you use the wrong CC it just resets the Defiance for no gain. Another fight that relies on this is Komali, He puts up a ring of fire that means everyone that hits him gives him a buff making him hit like a freight train and take almost no damage. So you need to stop attacking him when the buff goes up and someone needs to clear Stability off him so he can be knocked out of the circle. This means you need certain skill and good timing.

I’m not saying that fights should be class specific, but more that there should be things that non DPS classes can add to the fight that make the fight go much faster.

There are some really good examples of this already in the game. The Grawl Fractal is much easier if you can shut down the Lava Elemental’s ranged attacks to give you time to take down the shield. Which is why Focus Ele’s really help here.

The idea is not that you have only 1 of these in a dungeon, but that a dungeon has a real mix of things you need to do. SO it makes sense to bring a Toolbox rather than 5 Sledgehammers. Fractals do this quite well, there are places where different tools definitely make things easier, and you have no clue what your going go to face when you go in.

I also think there is a lack of pressure in some fights, they end up being dodge the big hit or die. There needs to be a mix of “dodge the big hit or die” and “heal through the thousand cuts or die”. Some of the better fights in the game have this. And it’s fights like this that characters with Healing Builds come into their own.

As Anet devs have stated multiple times, the server status is NOT based on how many players are logged in at any given moment, but rather how many accounts call a server their home. So you can have a technically full server that reads as full, is loaded with accounts… and most of those accounts are inactive.

Actually they have stated that it’s Active Accounts they count for Server Status.. HOWEVER, that is not the same as currently logged in. I don’t know what they count as Active. Could be last logged in within a month, who knows?

I do think GW is very friendly, I never have problems getting groups. Have a really full friends list out of Guild.

However note: GW is very action oriented, I know that I can rarely get time to type if I’m in an event or Dungeon. I’m lucky if I can get out “Don’t Attack Th….” before a graveling eats my face. Most typing happens when your horizontal on the floor. So you are only likely to get much chat going on in Towns.

I also feel A-Net let the ball slip on the whole communication thing. In most MMOs I’ve played there have been at least a RP Channel, maybe a New Players Channel, and possibly a Class Channel. I know I spent a lot of time in different games discussing builds on the Class Channels. Some games even have the ability to create a Channel with a Password and have people join it. In GW2 we have a local map chat and Guild chat. Unless people sit in LA chatting it’s actually quite hard to get in a long conversation without people wanting to leave zone to kill a Dragon or do Dailies. PLEASE A-NET give us more chat Channels.

The other thing to note is that a lot of level 80s craft through the early levels on their Alts so some zones can be a bit dead. My suggestion is do your leveling on you toon in an area that is covered by the Daily. SO if it’s Kryta killer do it in Queensdale, if it’s 5 Events in Ascalon do it in Plains of Ashford. That way you will get an influx of 80s doing stuff in your zone.

How do I get into my first dungeon?

Ratty.5176

I’ve played a lot of the dungeons at the suggested level and gear and stats scale very well as long as you have up to date armor. There is a slight hump at level 55-65 caused by the 3rd stat coming in, it can lead to you feeling really under powered until you have armor with the 3rd stat, my suggestion is try to get some TA tokens and buy the 3 stat 55 rare armor from the dungeon vendor as this can really help you get over this hump.

Also you need to consider the skills you unlock. There are certain skills that make you useful in dungeons no matter your level and others that you will rarely use. For example on the Elementalist: Ice Bow, Earth Shield and Mist Form are really useful in dungeons as they give you stun breaks and the Ice Bow is amazing against AC burrows. Guardian: Shield of Avenger and Wall of Reflection to protect team against masses of ranged attackers. Thief: Shadow Refuge, to save downed team mates. SO it might be good to talk to another player of your class and ask them what Utilities they find really useful in dungeons so you can attempt to get them first.

I personally would prefer a new area of the game that needs Agony Resist (that is already in the game and has multiple ways of obtaining), than a new area of the game that requires level 90 or 100 and makes all current armor obsolete. And if they did this I could see them bringing in new items that have Infusion Slots ergo the backpack.

In other words I would not consider AR for a new zone a bad thing if it avoids them increasing the level cap, and they put in more ways of obtaining it (At the moment you can still get 30 AR without ever stepping into a Fractal)

Ask ele to equip a focus…
Ele becomes immortal (only here) :|

earth 2-4-5
air 4
add arcane shield and mistform…..despite the nerf gains seconds to CD other skills.

Remember that ele can cast his shields/mistform without interrupting other actions like ressing and stuff.

P.S: otherwise the evergreen tactic:
any shield => binding blade + 1hb….works everywhere…..

About to say the same thing.

Put down Air 4 and it gives the entire team a decent place to attack the Shield from.

And note you can use Earth 5 while rezzing someone, so if the boss drops Agony or an AoE on you, you can carry on rezzing without stopping, also Mistform allows this too.. so that’s 7s to get someone up under fire.

Note with Mistform, you can’t use Utilities now, you can still swap into Water for Regen and roll to give healing (if you are traited for these).

Part of me feels with a lot of the Open World raids the mechanics are hidden by the number of people doing them. Take for example Jormag, 2nd part you have to break crystals to let golems through to blow up the walls, while also dealing with Vets. Really cool interesting mechanics. I’ve done Jormag with 10 people and it is an amazingly fun fight.

However what most people experience of the Dragons is standing on a hill auto-attacking (with bad lag), as only a couple of people kite the vets and destroy the crystals. In otherwords the HP of the Dragon Scale, the mechanics don’t well.

I personally would love the option as a Guild to open an instanced version of Jormag, and run it with 20-30 guild mates rather than open world and get the whole experience with mates.

This is what I would love to see as a “Raid”. And I do think there is a place for it in the game.

They way I look at it is thus. You lose a weapon slot, so you take a kit to make up for the lack of weapon swap. This means your down a utility, but wait what’s that there you get another 4 ability type skills in your toolbelt to make up for that. And wait also on top of that you can swap weapons as often as you like so you never really have cooldown issues.

Yeah I really do think Engineers got the raw end of the deal on weapons. sarcasm

Now if you said Gadgets were a bit iffy I think we could all agree. But I don’t really see the issue in having 1 weapon set. I often run 3 kits.. that’s 20 different 1-5 skills (OK really 18 as 3 of them are drop Medipack. but you know what I mean), that’s twice what any class other than Elementalists get (and Elementalists have limitations, I run D/D I’m stuck with melee range).

Strangely I was in Horathi today, getting all the WPs on a toon, having read this thread I expected it to be a ghost town. Hit a WP that was getting attacked by centaurs and there were half a dozen people, carried on all the way to Ulgoth and by the time we got there we had a mini zerg. Thought that was really cool, but maybe they are only here for the Chest event. So I carried on collecting WPs, came across maybe 3 or 4 Events on the way each had half a dozen people on them.

I was really pleasantly surprised.

You have no business judging my “statistical capability”, because it’s not your kittening business. I’m there, I’m helping, how much doesn’t matter.

Of course it matters. As I said earlier. Content is based on five players, not four, so each player is intended to bring 1/5th of the battle strength to the fight, your contributions are not “bonus,” they are either meeting that standard, or falling short. If a player is using full MF gear, then he is forcing each of the other players to bring even more to the team than their fair share, in return for zero benefit to them.

Content is not based on five players with perfect exotic/ascended gear. It’s based on imperfectly geared players with bad ping and slow reflexes.

Anything you do in a party is a benefit to the party. Just because someone doesn’t want to use the gear YOU are trying to force down their throat doesn’t mean they aren’t meeting whatever stupid standard that only exists in an elitist’s head.

So many of their arguments sound as if MF wearers have 1 stats (MF) and that’s it. As if none of the other stats exists, and therefore those players are hurting the group. If anyone reading just skimmed through and knew nothing about the game it would look as though there is a gear set that has 1 stat that is terrible in group play. A full MF+MF+MF gear set. Surprised thread hasn’t been locked, maybe the mods are busy laughing.

MF is the major stat. a Exotic Explorer has the same amounts in stats as a level 68 blue piece of armor. you are losing around 3/7 of your total stats.

Mathematically, everyone plays the game differently.

What screws the party for you, doesn’t screw it for a whole bunch of people. It’s up to them to decide what is screwing their party.

Stop pretending that everyone is following your elitist mathematical gameplay.

So are you for a second saying that you won’t do more to help the party in full exotics than you will in level 68 blues (that give the same amount of stat bonus as Explorers). It has a detremental effect. Whether or not your helping your team, your helping your team less with one set up than the other.

level 80 exotics > level 68 blues.

Now whether or not your team cares about it is neither here or there. YOU ARE doing less.

When you take Explorer gear you are doing the same you are mathmatically doing less to help the team than if you were in other Exotics. THIS IS A FACT. It’s also a fact that only you are getting the bonus as things stand from the Magic Find.

Whether you count this as Selfish or not is neither here or there. Instead of helping your team you are making a conscious decision to help only yourself.

Slots 1-5, I'm seriously baffled.

Let me say something, it seems that people think that if you have more skills, only the strongest set of them will be used. Well.. that’s mostly the case. But what you are forgetting is that that only counts for 1 part on the map. What having more skills is about is that you can adapt your build to your environment. With the current system it doesn’t matter where you are, you will always use the same skills. maybe change 1 or 2 skills for a certain dungeon, but that’s it. It doesn’t make the game verry dynamic, it makes it boring & grindy. That’s also why i never felt like grinding in GW1. It was called farming, and was kitten fun with all those builds.

This can’t be father away from how I find it plays personally. With my Elementalist I find I use every weapon option in a lot of dungeons for different parts.

eg. When I’m doing a AC run of all paths I’ll swap around a lot.
Sceptre/Focus for Spider boss,
D/D for Gravelings
Swap in Ice Bow for burrow killing, maybe also Fiery Greatsword,
Swap in Mistform, Arcane Shield, Earthshield and D/D for running the parts
for Path 1 boss Sceptre/Focus.
Path 2 boss Staff
Path 3 boss Sceptre/Focus.

So in that dungeon I’m running around 70 different skills.

Even with Guardian, I’ll generally run GS/Staff/Sceptre/Shield/Focus/Mace at different parts. I have a much wider selection of Utilities in AC than my Elementalist. Even though I’m boon specced there are places Wall of Reflection, different Shouts, Shield of Avenger, Consecrations to remove conditions all get used. I reacon that over all 3 paths I’ll run around 30 different skills.

Someone mentioned about “social contract”. And this is perfectly stating about the “selfish” behavior. But please remember – this is contract it should be signed for all involved. Contract are not “by default”.
If you search your group : “LF More, no MF gear” – then running with MF is breaking the contract you’ve set
If there is : “LF More, Berserk gear” – then running without Berserk (i.e. Valkyria) is breaking the contract you’ve set
If there is “LF More” – Then this mean only what is said. All people welcomed.

I would believe the social contract is what the majority of the society your in see as normal behavior. I don’t have to put in the post..

“Lf1m must not be wearing all white, must not go afk for an hour, must not agro all the mobs on the map onto the group, must not ignore all downed people when they could be easily saved, must not use Melee weapons when we are trying to pull boss to next Lava pull. etc”

I believe that over 50% of people playing don’t really like MF in dungeons. therefore, it would only be common courtesy to ask. The only time you really need to post extra info is if what you are after is not the norm.

“lf3m must be Zerk Warriors”
“lf1m for full dungeon clear”
“lf2m farm Ascalonian fractal, magic find welcome”

But I don’t think anyone is saying that it’s about doing CoF faster. It’s about a social contract, when you make a team with people you are making a social contract which is more or less saying I want to get through this dungeon, I will do everything I can to help the group, and in return I expect the players give me the same respect. This is core to being a team. If I’m doing everything I can to give the team the best I can, and someone in the team spends 1/3 of the run AFK I would feel they had broke the social contract, they signed up for the team and then AFK’d while the rest of the team did the work. It’s similar with MF, if everyone is attempting their best, has the best gear they can afford, having 1 player not contributing everything they can and getting more loot is really breaking the social contract.

Now it’s fine for you to make a different social contract with people. EG we are getting together to farm all the mobs in this Dungeon, everyone bring Magic Find. There really is no issue with that.

But sneaking your MF gear on during a run so you can not contribute the most you can and on top of that get more loot is a breach of etiquette. And seeing as the majority of players I believe would consider running MF in a dungeon to be against the norm, the onus is really on the player wanting to use MF to inform the team. I do the same if I have my full Zerker Warrior, I openly say “this toon is fairly fragile, so you might need to keep an eye on me”.

CoF path 1 farming is another example of this. It’s open from the outset that everyone is running Zerker gear, I have put the effort into getting all the gear necessary together, and therefore I expect everyone else to do the same. This has openly been agreed when someone answers my advert. If someone doesn’t have the gear and lies about it, they are breaking this contract and the team will likely fail.

I would prefer to use all combat stats on my gear but Anets idea of a good reward is a chest full of blues after an hour long Arah run, I say kitten on that. I will run with full MF and get green and yellow.

However MF doesn’t even work on Chests. So really it doesn’t help there.

This is another reason I’m not a fan of MF in Dungeons. Take CoF path 1, 2 Mobs that can drop loot, Boss that drops loot, Mobs that everyone skips, respawning mobs that don’t drop loot, boulders, respawning mobs that don’t drop loot, final boss that drops loot.. So in a CoF path 1 run. 2 bosses and 2 mobs in the whole run that can drop loot, is that really worth the drop in stats.

And it’s similar in a lot of the dungeons. There are places that MF is useful. Dredge Trash, Ascalonian Streets, The mobs on the way to the Maw. Almost everywhere else I would say it’s completely pointless.

MF gear (Explorer specifically) loses 1/3 of the offensive stats compared to Berserk for 0 group benefits. Using MF gear is the same as a player that AFKs for 1/3 of the dungeon and still gets the same rights to loot than the rest of the team. IE, he’s a leech.

Well not quite.. He has greater rights to loot, while missing 1/3 of his offensive stats.

I would love to see a 4 Warrior and 1 Mesmer team run CoF 3 times in Zerk and then 3 times in the Magic Find Equivalent. My guess is that there would be a lot more deaths and everything would take considerably longer.

Also people harassing RPers in a RP channel is far easier to police than in a map channel, where moaning about constant RP chatter might not be considered Harassing.

Your post suggested that Engineer are bad in PvE. My opinion is the opposite, that they are very useful in PvE, but that a lot of people don’t use them to their full potential. This is my opinion on the state of balance for the Engineer and is just as valid and as pertinent to the discussion of Class balance in PvE as your “Be happy you didn’t roll an Engineer.” In fact I would argue it is more pertinent as I gave reasons for my belief rather then dismiss an entire class in 7 words.

Be happy you didn’t roll an Engineer.

I love my Engineer in Dungeons, especially FotM. I have all 8 professions and my Engi has an awful lot going for it relative to a lot of the other classes. I will openly admit it takes a bit more knowledge of the class to get everything it can do out of it, but once you know the class inside and out, it’s good. High single target and AOE DPS (since it can stack 25 vulnerability fast) Able to Rez people from under mobs feet, and heal better than a lot of classes while DPS specced. Not to mention the ability to stealth a group for 12+ secs when needed, buff they entire team with a decent number of stacks of might, put up walls of Smoke/Reflection to fill in gaps if you only have 1 Guardian.

It’s a very capable dungeon runner in the hands of the right player.

(It can also survive the Maws agony at 48 if used right, and probably bring a few mates along with it.)

Forth: Make the effects of traiting non-DPS more effective. I feel that part of the issue at the moment is that a lot of an abilities effect comes from the effect not the traits or the stats. A Wall of Reflection is just about as effective on a toon running full P/P/C as it is on one using P/V/T, or running full DPS traits. If the downtime was longer non traited it would make traiting far more important. In other words you lose far too little support going DPS, compared to the amount you gain going full Support.

Thirdly: Multiple trait builds, if you are going to have content that is more engaging, you may need to allow people to purchase a second trait set they can swap to, like swapping armor for certain bits of a dungeon. At the moment what makes condition builds less viable in dungeons is you can never be sure if your PUG will have another 2 condition users so you cap out and waste a lot of DPS. Being able on the fly to swap to your Power build and swap in your power armor makes it much easier to run with 3 Necros in a group as you can have a Chillomancer, Tanky Healer and Conditionmancer ,that don’t cancel each others advantages out, much easier if people can swap their build on the fly. Similar goes for Guardians, have you ever been in a group with 3 fully healing speced Guardians, it’s painfully slow, but if you had multiple traitlines 1 could swap to Boonway or DPS and it’s all fine. I know A-Net doesn’t want a Trinity, but unless everything boils down to a samey molasses, you are going to have people that trait to be specialised. This suggestion allows them to do this without removing the ability to do any Dungeon with any group of people.

SO first thing that really needs to be done is look at rewards, if other Dungeons/Paths had their rewards adjusted so they compared more favorably time/reward to CoF Path 1 then I could see more PvE classes shine.

Secondly they need more content that requires diverse skill sets. It’s already partially seen in Fractals, having Stealth is good for certain bits, Reflects for other bits, Pulls, Cripples come into it, blindness. These kind of encounters almost need to be ramped up so they put more pressure on teams that run full DPS rather than a mix of professions with varied skills. The new dungeon showed an interesting thing with Stress, a pesistant dot which meant that you couldn’t get Out Of Combat in a section. Imagine that ramped up so that dot did more damage, having classes like Ele, Guard and Engineer that can put out decent constant healing would become more preferable to pure DPS Warriors. As you couldn’t rely on killing fast and then using OOC to heal you back up.

You can friend them, then report them from your friends panel. I believe.

Walls of Reflection, Shield of the Avenger, Swirling Winds, Condition Clensing, Smoke fields all work really well against the small spiders, which a lot of the time I find is what wipes parties. Once you have the Giant Spider on it’s own, a decent player can more or less solo the thing, it’s just a case of dodging the immobolize and keeping out of red circles.

I find the limited skills almost the challenge in itself. Going into a Battle I have to choose which 3 utilities help most in a given fight. Do I take a stun breaker, more stats, a wall, an extra kit for healing etc. In some ways the limitations are what adds the challenge. I think if I could roll into a fight with every utility as an option it might make things much easier.

Though I do feel a lot of the Elites need looking at, there are too many classes where I find one Elite stapled to my bar as there are so few situations where the other Elites would be useful.

I brought my female Asura the Christmas clothes just so she could wear a dress to Human functions, and be pretty. Though I don’t want a dress when running around kicking buttocks.

I want Skritt. but have your character act as 3 skritt that all work together as a team, rather than 1, and share the same hit box. That would not be confusing at all..

anybody like to level alts while on Main?

TBH once you have a 80, you can easily round up enough cash over a weekends play to get an alt up to level 30 using crafting. Which to me is the hardest part of the battle. That gets all your Utility Slots unlocked and your Elite, and gives you enough SP to get useful utilities. Also it unlocks your second weapon slot.

doesnt do a thing about Traits. again take a look in the OP for the Support Warrior example. they get a heal from traits but its grandmaster.
in other words you cant play Healing Support Warrior unless you a high level.

This is very true, same with the Engineer, where Grenades only become really viable at 60. However I’ve not had any real issue running dungeons at level 30 on any of my toons. You do mess around with other builds on the way up, for example the 5 Signet Warrior, probably a bad choice at 80, but at 35 very reasonable.

I always liked CoH extra 2 classes, which you could only get once you had a full level character. They were never Overpowered in fact they were probably the worst class out there. But it gave someone something to challenge themselves with after they hit max level.

I would love to see something like this added, with the races being something like Krait. So what if your starting area was underwater, all your racials helped more underwater and your hit box was screwy for jumping puzzles. You already have a level 80 that is fine for normal content.

so let’s allow the system to be broken and cause problems, because that’s how it’s easier to do? Imagine if work project would be done this way. “I spilled my coffee on this presentation, however it was far easier to wipe the coffee away than to re-print it. If you can’t read what’s hidden behind a stain ask me and I’ll tell you what it was supposed to be”

This is the real world, they only have so many programming hours to use on different parts of the game. In this type of situation you get what are called Time/Effect Graph. A solution that uses a low amount of Time, but has a good effect is better than one that uses a huge amount of Time for a slightly better effect. It’s better to use your time on a group of jobs that give the most overall effect, than on one item. This is how businesses work.

the suggested solution causes so much problems that it’s easiest to leave the whole thing untouched or to solve it properly. If they don’t have enough man power then it’s easier not to fix it. It’s not a bug after all. If they feel charitable they should fix it in a way that won’t enrage the community and hurt their business.

No it doesn’t.

I doubt it would be a large proportion of the community that would feel your way Mirta. I know in my Guild only 1 person really uses Magic Find in dungeons, the rest feel it’s a selfish stat and hurts the team. Even in this thread the majority doesn’t agree with you. I think your a subgroup of a minority. The minority being people that run Magic Find in dungeons and the subgroup those that wouldn’t prefer it to be less selfish. I believe the Majority, from talking to people fall into the camp of people that either a) don’t believe it makes enough difference to be worth the loss of stats b) don’t like running it in Dungeons as it lowers the effectiveness of the team c) don’t like running it in dungeons as they feel it is selfish.
