  • Maybe, just maybe, ANet would sell more keys of the chests wouldn’t be RNG based.
  • This assumes that people who key farm would spend $ on keys in the absence of key farming.
  • On top of the rarity of ticket scraps, they force you to get 10 just to make 1. Its a system obviously designed to make chunks of money[…]
  • For what you get, black lion keys are way over priced, they shouldn’t be more than 25 gems per key in my opinion.

Considering keys are $1.60 right now, it’s really friggin’ insulting for what little we get for it. Even as a bundle, they’re too costly.
Dropping them to 40 Gems ($0.50) is something even a frugal player can flick a few quarters at.

Over 2,000 posts… The latest blog post was really disappointing. I was hoping that the red post we got recently here was a bluff. It seemed implausible that they actually hadn’t thought about or discussed how much hate this system was getting.

Echo that. :\

After four months of almost consistently negative feedback and suggestions, to know they’ve barely looked at it is disheartening.

Since this thread came back to life it got me thinking of some ideas:

  • Primers for boosters or extended time boosters (5 hours and/or 24 hours)
  • I’m always down for new faces and hairstyles/colors, but specifically I’d like to see longer beards for guys
  • New body types. Let’s have more options for weightier options for all races, more defined muscles for human females, older character bodies
  • New patterns/tattoos for Norn/Asura/Charr and tattoos for humans as well
  • Magic carpet (similar to the broom)
  • Floating divan/chair (similar to the broom)
  • Glowing cat’s eye effect at night
  • Antlers (similar to the devil horns)
  • Beggar’s outfits: tattered, patched hooded cloak
  • Crafting outfits similar to the chef’s outfit for other crafting disciplines: an armorsmith’s leather apron & gloves, jeweler’s loupe or dark goggles, and so forth

If some of these happen, I fear for my wallet.

I have more than 50k gold in assets to sell, if i wanted to. Right now i am crafting my 6th set of ascended gear so i dont need to buy asc stuff from the tp.
How do you sink my gold? The couple of gold for commander tag amenities i shuffle out on the side without making a dent into my wallet. Most of your suggestions are p2w borderline anyways.

Your proposal would do little to my wealth but make it very hard for new players to become a commander or get ascended gear. If it somehow should be a massive gold sink (which i doubt) and get the gold/gem ratio significantly down, i will still be as rich as before and substantially more rich compared to new players.

Thank you very much.

Ayup.

So, better question to you, someone who has tons of cash:

“What would you spend money on?”

GW2 does need ways to siphon money out of the economy, but making it a forced tweak to earnings just builds player resentment and slows growth on newer players. Rather, we need to encourage players to spend money on things. These things either need to be non-permanent or a swank cosmetic upgrade, since power-creep isn’t much an option.

One of the best things a non-sub game can do is to sell convenience. So, what can GW2 do to both provide convenience at a premium?

Also, and this might seem a tad hand-holding, would it be better to set the minimum buy/sale limit to 115% of the vendor price? Or is it seemingly okay to short-sell in favor of convenience (ie, bags are full and I need to clear something out via TP sales)?

Every item traded over the TP acts as a gold sink while every item sold to vendor acts as a gold faucet, greating inflation.
So I would guess he is fine with the status quo.

Proper point. Which just spurs the question, actually. If the minimum buy/sell on the TP is the same as the vendor price, I’m just going to vendor it, so I get the full amount. Instead of gold-sink, I’m creating wealth. Granted, I’m likely to vendor it if it’s at a minimum +15% as well, but in that scenario, I’m also likely to not waste my time looking for a vendor and throwing it on that buy order instead.

Mostly, I just want those nuisance 1c bids gone. =P

How about packaging every item into a choice box like ascended

10 clicks more per loot item, but hey you can decide on your own what you get

PS: No I do not work for Logitech, I do not want to increase mouse-replacement sales due to broken mouse button.

If you worked for Fellows, I’d be suspicious. Those things lasted me 6 months. Logitech mouse? 5 years. Then I got the same exact one~

Kidding aside, someone else brought up how silly the idea is. Level 80s don’t scrounge gear off of enemies, and a profession-based loot system means that clothies are going to get mega-paid.

Fortunately, I have several clothies at 80.

• If I’m the only one dead, and people actually stop what they are doing to ress me,then I feel obliged to say Thanks, and I try to return the favor and I keep on eye on them, and if they die,I’ll stop what I’m doing to ress them (even if I die again in the process)

Minor technical / convenience question:

A long while back there was a patch to limit buy/sell orders to vendor price. This kept a lot of the chaff out of the trading post, but some of those junk buy orders are still there, and it’s cluttering up the market.

Is there a way to release/return those now-defunct orders back to their owners?

Also, and this might seem a tad hand-holding, would it be better to set the minimum buy/sale limit to 115% of the vendor price? Or is it seemingly okay to short-sell in favor of convenience (ie, bags are full and I need to clear something out via TP sales)?

Had a quick thought:

Devs are limited in what they’re allowed to talk about, especially on something in development.

But are they limited in expressing opinions or statements of liking?

Forum: “I have X idea on how to Y.”
Dev: “Oh, I like that idea. We’ll look into it.”

Forum: “X is just the answer we’re looking for!”
Dev: “I’ll hand that forward to the dev team. Thanks!”

The acknowledgement is a simple way to show us that our ideas are getting heard. It might hedge down some of the repeat threads, too. =P

It could even been a code word. >.>

Could you please put the above quote, on those responsible for changing the trait system, desks.
Make sure they can see it every minute of the day!

Seconded.

GW2 has some woefully dead levels, and it’s not just the 6-level spread between trait points. I’ve never been a fan of point-every-level for the sake of micromanagement, since respec’ing a character was always a chore for it. But getting to an empty slot and realizing the one you want is 5 levels and 100% zone completion away is just brutally demoralizing.

Mob stunning players ruin all MMORPGs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I seldom find this to be an issue while I’m on the move. I keep visual track of mobs, skirt around them or bully past them. Eventually, the combat-slow wears off, and I’m on my way. It’s a tad more irritating when it’s on a character with no speed boosts.

Or, y’know, just kill the ruddy things. Mobs have loot. Sometimes. =P

I generally find mob CC to be more irritating because it lasts significantly longer than player CC, they do it much more frequently, and they always start without the cooldown, so it’s the first thing they spam.
No more than 5 seconds into a fight, there’s that fast-charge 5-second knockdown or chain-daze that is flat inappropriate for an action MMO.

I wasn’t thinking about it from a move speed perspective. Though now I have to wonder what the lore would say about having a mobile Asura gate on board an airship. =P

Set up the custom home point
Provide services that have to be activated:

Vendors – Probably just the basic kit/tool vendor would be enough
Crafting stations
Black Lion Trading Company
Bank
Mystic Forge
Repair
Asura Gate

But none of them would be permanent. You buy time with in-game gold for the convenience.

Of course, the big question would be where to put it.

Personally, I’m a fan of housing. Mounts, I haven’t put much though into but I’m not going to say they can’t do it in a new, interesting and overall ‘good’ way.

The waypoint system works, more or less. Maybe when this plotline with Mordy’s done, they’ll stop wrecking them. Otherwise, mounts are merely aesthetic and quality-of-life. =P

Side note: Broom + Asura = Fun. I think I saw a Charr surfing on one, which was adorable.

As for housing, it’d be nice to have a spot of my own with a tree garden (in case I gem-buy it), and a rock garden for my candy corn and assorted mining nodes (in case I buy those), and a spot where my warband can hang out.

So long as it’s not like FF14’s real estate system. Yeesh. o_O 1.5 million monies to buy it, and you still pay rent. It’d be better to have some kind of gold-buy for certain home-instance conveniences like a vendor, repair shop, Asura gate.
How’s that for a gold sink?

Will we get a Heavy new class?

We’ve had these threads before and there isn’t really much that isn’t covered by the classes. If you want a shadowknight type character you can already make a warrior who uses poison and fear, and so on. If there were any new ideas it would probably be better to put them into traits and utilities for an existing class. Nobody wants to level up a new character with the current trait system.

I’d do it for a new class, sure.

I didn’t play the original GW, so I can’t say what would be lore appropriate to bring over, but I imagine there’d be some heavy-armor class with a different feel.

We that want the status quo. Do not need a single solitary argument. Since we are not asking Anet to make any additions, subtractions, changes, or asking the developers to redesign the game in any way, shape or form….we do not need a single solitary argument other than:

" No, we do not want mounts."

The above was Just a distraction from the fact that you that do wish the game to be changed, and redesigned, you… that want major changes to the game, need to…and have not as of yet….provided, a single argument for why mounts would be beneficial, or necessary. that would be worth the time, the energy or the resources that the fevs would have to invest to give mounts.

“I don’t want you to have them because you’ll annoy me.”
“I still need it explained why an entertainment company should do something that is fun and makes money.”

ALL of the above, and Not ONE single argument from those wishing mounts other than.

1. it would be cool.
2. I want it.
3. Why not.

“I still need it explained why an entertainment company should do something that is fun and makes money.”

You want the game changed to include mounts, we do not want the game changed at all.

“The future is certain because what exists now is perfect and what will exist will not because it does not exist now.”

YOU need to provide compelling arguments,… all we need do is say.

“We don’t need mounts because of …”, is the most nonsensical argument possible. In fact, it is no argument at all.

You’re right … it’s the status quo. No one needs to argue against mounts because they don’t exist. What DOES need to happen is that pro-mount people need to argue why they should exist. I see a theme here; people seem to think that “I want it” is a reasonable argument for all kinds of stuff. It’s not. Mounts aren’t excluded from that. Make a reason why they ARE needed and maybe someone will take these stupid mount threads seriously. Same goes for increased legendaries, nerfing TP flipping, etc…

Again “I WANT THIS” is not a good reason for introducing anything ingame.

Actually, it is. Saying it isn’t doesn’t make it true.
Not to get all Freudian about it (but when you’re the first to make up an all-encompassing theory of anything, then you can criticize him), but the Id is generally the source of all action. “I want” is the reason anything gets done.
It is up to the Ego to determine if the want is possible and negotiate the particulars. In this case, the negotiating begins with asking the devs about the plausibility and details. Hence, “mount threads.”

Of course, the “I don’t want you to have it” argument is getting equally played out. It’s just veiled behind “Why?” constantly. The polite response to “I want” is “good for you, I hope you get it.” The contrary is equally as selfish, and it does nothing to promote growth or fun for the game.

Players: “I want some of the old skins I missed.”
ANet: “Oh, really? Well, let’s just sneak a few into the Gem Shop this week as we promote our second anniversary!”
Players: “Yay!”

Hate to break it to yas, but “I want” works.

Not any different from any other MMO that allows them. Biggest problem with the emote system in that regard is that it’s harder to report someone based off their emote, since there’s no clickable portion of the name, as there would be in a /say line.

Good points. I do undertand the frustration, and why the people come to complain, and give what they call feedback, on a paticular area of the game, and how it needs to be changed. I get that people really do enjoy the game, and want it to prosper and grow even more. However, even with those intentions, much of what is put out under the guise of feedback, and suggestions, comes out as pure venom. People who get tired of the way loot works come on here, not to have a discussion, or to provide feedback, or offer suggestions, but to rant. Typically (not always, but generally) such threads look like this:
“The loot system sucks kitten!! This is bullkitten, I have MF at 250% but still only get blues and greens. Anet just want me to spend money on gems instead of giving better loot!!! Anet sucks, and the devs are stupid and don’t know up from down!! Fix it or I’ll quit!!!”

While the loot system is not perfect and could be updated and revamped, a better response would be something like:

“The current loot system isn’t the greatest. With such a high MF (250%) One would think that you should be getting better loot, instead I am getting blues and greens, which are unusable and vastly inferior to rares, or exotics. Is there a way that this can be addressed? I would suggest maybe instead of having increased “rolls” on the RNG table with a higher MF, maybe have a higher permenet “bonus” as a base line for all rolls. So say rare equipment drops at a “roll” of 1500. At 250% MF, the starting number would be 250, and whatever the “roll” is is added to that. Just an idea. Thanks!"

Both posts say basically the same thing, but the tone is very different. Those who also love the game, see the first type of post and take it as an attack on something they also invested time and energy in and love and feel a need to defend it. And in defending it can be just as harsh as those who are attacking.

Expertly portrayed.
If anything, some of the kiddos around here (here = the internet) could use a few tutorials on tact and persuasion.
And problem solving technique.
And logic and debate. But that’s a different thread. <_<

Ok, I finally figured out why ANet made those foxfire clusters so rare: we’ll get a lot of logs with which we’ll be able to create log cabins!

Forrrrr Guild Halls! Maybe they’ll let Huntsman do the crafting for it.
Artificer gets too much love, srsly.

I just had an awesome idea:

Guild Hall mounts!

You could ride on a mini Rata Sum thingie that floats around. And when you get tired of flying over the landscape (well, floating), you dive inside it to get to your custom guild hall! Because Asura are snazzy that way and can totally pull off the TARDIS “bigger on the inside” thing.

Hm.. A lot of people seem to want capes too. Might be a bit injoke-ish, but what about a cape toy that lets you (no, not fly) zoom across the map Superman style? I was gonna go Super Mario on it, but that would look weird.

o_O And the cape vendor could be IN the guild hall!
Full circle, boyos. Full circle.

However, the replies are always the same. People constantly bash the individual and announce that the game is basically perfect and that nothing needs to be changed.

I don’t think you and I go to the same forums…

This made me laugh. It’s true though. There are far more people attacking me for being a “fan boy” or “white knight” as there are people attacking people for their complaints. I don’t see a lot of people being attacked for their views in the trait feedback thread as an example.

It’s kind of easy to get agreement on something so universally bad. =P

Still, it’s okay to ask for features. What’s unnecessary is the constant vomit of bile that comes from some people, while others are trying to either make valid points or, even better, give the design team ideas by providing a method to achieve what it is they want.

So, complain, no.
Solve, yes.

I’d love to see crafting quests. Each of the Orders needs stuff, and Evon can’t fill all the orders. It’s up to you to fill orders for the Orders!

Or something doofy like that.

The game could generate the dailies based on trading post supply, just to help get ride of a few.
“We need 5 Strong Iron Warhorn of the Pack” or something equally transparent.
It would get materials off the trading post and give us something to do with them besides vendoring and Mystic Forge flushing.

All that your side has done is seek to obfuscate, and draw up strawman arguments

the only thing we hear is
why mounts?

Yeah, it’s some heavy editing, but emotional ‘arguments’ that don’t heed the actual conversation aren’t ever going to be answered in a satisfactory way.

Because all I’m getting from one camp:
“I don’t want them.”
“I don’t want you to have them because you’ll annoy me.”
“I’m hiding behind legitimacy of game design because I’m out of arguments. Not reasons, arguments.”
“I still need it explained why an entertainment company should do something that is fun and makes money.”
“The future is certain because what exists now is perfect and what will exist will not because it does not exist now.”

This is, of course, not entirely true.

Dusty and other design-minded folk have pointed out the hurdles that would have to be overcome, and they stated no real need for mounts to happen. I don’t have the will or energy to recant all the very good reasons why we’re not likely to see “mounts” in the future.
Toys… maybe! Since, y’know, they already exist. With a speed boost.

…I need to figure out how to get that kite. Hm.

They would have to remove waypoints before adding mounts, that will never happen. I would like to see better player housing but that also will never happen.

Wagh.. Mount or no, I don’t want waypoints removed. GW2 is the most convenient MMO I’ve ever seen, and I’d like to keep it that way.

As a corner case, mounts would help get players in contested areas into the frey a little faster, but that’s about it. There’s too many technical limitations to bother pushing for it, honestly.

But yes for player housing. Even if I can’t afford it on my casual salary. XD

The Stone Summit would disagree that there are no mounts in GW lore:

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Dolyak_Master.jpg

Those are mobs, not friendly NPC’s. If you kill them they both die, the rider doesn’t dismount and continue fighting. They were designed as one piece not 2.

Not the same as a mount. There is some of the undead riders dead – notice the rider is not separate.

If that’s a lore-for-lore’s-sake argument, aren’t the Stone Summit (almost) all dead? =P
Mount technology died with them. T_T

…Oh well!

There’s two primary reasons that gem prices will rise:

1. Inflation. JS and the devs do what they can to mitigate it, but in a situation where money appears out of thin air, it can’t be held back indefinitely. Eventually, people will have enough money to buy gems, regardless of their price.

2. Players buy gems with gold, likely at a rate above players selling gems for gold. As the gem supply decreases, the price will rise.

If I understand it right, #2 is the primary reason, since the gem market interacts very little with the player base otherwise.
