Hey Scarlet!
Great video. Only other thing that I’d note is that given Pain Absorption and Banish Enchantment have similar energy/resistance cost, sometimes it’s better to throw in the banish enchantment to strip fat ele/necro might stacks and the like.
take the stun break on legend swap. swap to shiro
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Riposting_Shadows
dodge, ripositing shadows, dodge, riposting shadows, dodge, dodge, riposting shadows
you will be long gone before anyone ever kills you.
i did this across the entire verdant brink map. as long as you are in combat in shiro stance, the energy regen is greater than the time it takes to dodge + use riposting shadows again.
its essentially perma dodge
I believe at 5 energy per second it should take 7 seconds to replenish the energy for a riposting shadows. That’s about 4 every 30 seconds all things considered. You’re probably better off using the super speed for in combat mobility.
we are talking about escapes also here. and this skill gives you 50 endurance == 1 dodge.
w/o straight spamming the buttons you just dodge, use skill, dodge rinse n repeat. u can walk a hot sec if u really need a touch more energy.
its def brokenly strong
Riposting shadows evade time: 0.75 secs
Dodge evade time: 0.75 secs
Energy recharge time: 7 secs
We’ll say that with vigor (which I don’t recall revenants having access to) you get one additional dodge per 7 seconds
That’s 2.25 seconds every 7 seconds assuming use of no other skill but auto attack (with a little more evade uptime at the beginning of combat).
So, you can give up access to everything else for less than 1/3 uptime on evade.
Not really amazing or anything.

Something I noticed playing Revenant is that staff skill #4 (Renewing Wave) does not always seem to clears conditions on yourself. Not sure if it’s due to moving during the aftercast or whatever. But it’s kind of annoying getting downed because your condi cleanse doesn’t work reliably.
Noticed this a couple times too.
Taunt is just… bad. I get it can be used on someone who is trying to stomp your friend in pvp but… it’s just bad. Same can be achieved with hammer, axe #5 and lots of other stuff.
This. That skill needs energy cost lowered a lot and a cd added. Can’t spend 50 energy for a taunt, it’s not Jade Winds.
It’s not only that Jade Winds is 100% better, but that it should give another effect for that cost, stapple 6 seconds of protection, up the damage to 500 or up the slow and taunt duration to 5 seconds and I’m happy with the 50 energy cost, 2 seconds of taunt and slow are worthless, specially when most classes have much better options for CC than revenant does.
It’s not really fair to compare it to jade winds. They’re not competing for the same energy. If you have excess energy that you want to dump before leaving dwarf (so that it’s not wasted) the taunt is a solid option.
The cost does succeed in making it unviable to spam it, as it should.
I found revenant pretty strong 1v1. Bigger fights is where it lacked because it had no way to mitigate focus and not enough sustain to keep up with other classes.
You either didn’t face skilled enough players or did not play against meta builds, Revenant is viable but it’s far from strong 1v1 speacially against meta builds, you can’t deal damage and mitigate damage at the same time because most of the time you ran out of energy before you could decide which one was more important, survival or downing an enemy, specially against professions with reliable condition pressure or low cooldown burst capabilitites (so Panic Strike thieves, MoD Mesmers and Survival Power Rangers that ran entangle instead of rampage as one), Necros were a problem but mostly due to DS, you tried to burst them and they just went into DS and your burst got wasted, your energy drained and once that happens Revenant is a free kill.
Well, I will say it’s pretty unforgiving, but that doesn’t necessarily correlate directly with balance.
My notes after the weekend (PvP, WvW, roaming oriented):
- Staff is pretty awesome. Took me a while to come around to it though. Only gripe is that 2 and 4 are on the slow side, but 2 in particular. It’s nearly impossible to land the chain on moving targets.
- Sword main hand was pretty solid. Devastating auto, 2 was pretty useless, and 3—not sure where I stand on it. Potentially does a ton of damage, so it should have some down sides. Evade on it would be over the top. But the real problem is it’s just not engaging—half the time it’s just “press this and hope it works out in my favor”. Unfortunate because it’s pretty cool.
- Sword offhand is currently only worth taking for the block and then your best forgetting about the follow up immobilize which just feels awkward.
- Hammer felt much better. Only change I’d suggest is making it so that the 5’s cast wasn’t channeled for the full duration of the skill, maybe just shave half a second off.
- The trait lines seemed to work well, although the salvation line seems like it needs some small tweaks that I can’t put my finger on.
- Jalis could use some help. It’s just neither here nor there. The only real reason to take it right now is stability and a somewhat burst heal (relative to ventari and shiro).
- Malyx feels really good.
- Ventari. Its growing on me. However, it is still pretty clunky. I like the concept but it just doesn’t keep up to pace with PvP. A shatter mesmer can kill quicker than the amount of time it takes to unload my tablet. One other thing that I think would be nice: I believe at the moment you have to start channeling skills before moving the tablet to get a heal on the move. It would improve the fluidity if you could start casting the heal while the tablet is still moving. Also, the elite while moving would be cool, not sure balance wise though.
3. Shiro energy costs seem a bit high, especially on the gap closer. The healing skill also really needs to lose its ICD.
Shiro’s gap closer is almost absurdly cheap. after a fresh swap you can probably pull it off three times back to back. 20 is barely more than some of the weapon skills.
The Legendary Demon Stance Elite, Embrace the Darkness, applies torment to the player in pulses….. but only applies resistance once (if traited).
The elite should re-apply resistance as often as torment is applied, otherwise this elite will be so situational that it will never get any use.
Even in pvp when the circumstances where you will get stacked with conditions actually can arise, the measly amount of resistance applied does not even give you a chance to survive long enough to use them against your foes.
Lich form, Plague form, Rampage, Tornado, etc…. all reapply stability every few seconds…
This elite needs to reapply resistance in the same fashion.
The torment hits for 40 damage points when walking, and giving perma resistance to revenant will make him immune to condi builds, and being capable to dodge everything with Shiro…
Self-applied torment is affected by your own stats, including duration and damage.
When you aren’t running condi dmg its not a big deal, but when you are…. (which is when you would want to be running Legendary Demon Stance in the first place)….. you are literally dealing more damage to yourself after using your elite.
The non-elite necro utility skill, plague signet, is 50x better than this elite skill.
If you have enough condis on you where condi matching might actually be a threat…. and you are running around trying to copy the conditions you have on yourself onto foes without cleansing them…. you are going to pop.
Either change the condition copy to transfer….. or pulse resistance otherwise this skill is literally never going to get used.
A necro pretty much destroys any condition dmg build in pvp by using one – sometimes two skills. which cleanses all of the negative condis and gives them to an enemy player.
A revenant gets “I’m going to try and bring you down with me, condi player…. halfe assed style!” the elite.
The elite is really strong, honestly. Even tears apart d/d ele’s.
lol, no.
Okay, your right. Those ele’s were dying to fall damage.
But seriously, between shiro heal and malyx elite. Massive damage.
Was consistently winning duels running sword/axe and staff. Retribution, Invocation/Corruption, and Devastation with shiro and malyx.
Outside 1v1, wasn’t performing quite as well.

In addition, when you factor in additional damage from the shiro heal/life siphon traits you’re talking some pretty hefty damage.
It will be really easily punishable once opponents catch on, but it certainly doesn’t lack in damage.
Like the above poster, in the end I found a cele build worked pretty well. Marauder was working well in 1v1 situations, but revenant just really doesn’t have the tools to avoid bursts and constant pressure in team fights with it.
I definitely found that towards the end of the weekend I’d really worked out how to survive much better. As mentioned above, pop your shiro heal early. I tended to start engagements in shiro, this give you the shadowstep to get in close and lets you pop your heal as soon as you start taking damage.
I typically ran malyx as my second legend. It offers pretty strong defenses against condi, especially if traited for the resistance on skill use. Unyielding anguish provides great defense against melee classes like thief and even rampage warriors. Just drop it and stay in the circle after a thief stealths.
Finally, just be conservative with your energy usage. The evade on shiro is pretty strong but you want to make sure you have that energy when you need it. I recommended starting fights pretty passively to get a bit of an energy cushion.
Lighter is actually right.. Youre always free to prove hes wrong by 1v1 him on your main class/rev.
Put me in coach.
I found revenant pretty strong 1v1. Bigger fights is where it lacked because it had no way to mitigate focus and not enough sustain to keep up with other classes.
Pro tip: don’t use on greatsword warriors, necros, or burn guardians. Mileage may vary with other classes.
Best moment: using it on a greatsword warrior who was using whirlwind attack. Think I managed to get hit more than should normally be possible for a total of 12k damage.
An evade for the full duration might be on the strong side, but it certainly needs something. Maybe evades between hits at least.
As it is, it’s extremely high risk with limits reward. One hilarious example I ran into in PvP earlier was using it on a guardian who had just popped purging flames. I dashed in and out of the circle stacking 20 something burns in about 1 1/2 seconds and died before the skill animation even completed.
I sort of like OP’s idea. I think it would get boring to only use GW1 characters, when there are many memorable post GW1 and GW2 characters who are in the mists already who could work as future elite specializations. Just imagine invoking the power of Scarlet or that giant titan or even Zhaitan.
Next elite legend: Tybalt
1) you add more active maps to accommodate more prime time players, ques would not be an issue at all. In fact, you could even have “event maps” that appear for set time periods that disappear when their time is up to create more maps in use at once during busiest time periods.
If you just create more and more maps to avoid queues you would just give the advantage to the server with a larger population, moreso than now, as they expand in to empty maps.
Also, non-persistent maps come with other issues. Such as less of an incentive to defend because well… it’d all disappear in a few hours when primetime was over anyway.
2) You run none of the problems with EoTM if implemeted properly, EoTM score never counted to begin with. That linear map and chokepoints make it not worth playing at all. The score STILL counts, in addition they should give actual player rewards for winning, not the BS they currently do that you can cash in for prizes like they did for Tourney. You can even have it where you play GvG wvw tourneys only playing against certain guilds for the duration. No " overflows" only maps that the score counts and that has rewards for winning. It would be like seasons but all the time.
As others have mentioned, things like ‘server loyalty’—but more so just a sense of persistence, community, and camaraderie—are more important to the existing WvW community than “rewards” (obviously, since they’re pretty non-existent currently). Even just the knowledge you’re going to run into some of your rival guilds on the field motivates guilds to go out there.
The whole community aspect might not occur to you because you have a massive guild, and multiple others to run with—pretty much your own insular WvW community. But not everyone has that, and smaller guilds and individuals don’t want to have to jump through hoops just to make sure they end up on the same team, much less the same map instance.
Turning it into some EotM 2.0 with better maps and “rewards” isn’t going to do it for the core WvW players. Especially considering that the better the rewards, the more incentive to just karma train it.
These ideas are pretty half-baked. Maybe sound good in theory, but if you actually think them through to the end you’d realize they’re full of holes.

This guardian build requires the most skill out of any build in the game, hands down.
In fact, I’ve had literally 0 success with it. The skill floor is so insanely high with this build. The skill cap? Well let’s just say, its likely that no one will ever even come close to approaching this builds skill cap.
The Necromancers and Engineers were actually pulling people into our group. How do you kill numbers like that if not with AoE? Siege? Should they have just stacked boons and ran in there spamming AoE and hammer stuns like all the “zerg-busters” do? This is an easy game with a broken combat system when it comes to large numbers.
There’s always some scrub hater. Coming from CD, I’m sure you would have ran first. That’s the main reason we left CD — the “run first, fight later” attitude. The only decent guilds on that server were [FKVA] and [NA], the rest of you are as good as ogre or dredge mercenaries.
Maybe have your zerg portal bomb our 5man groups more. Get good.
That’s kind of my point, it is just a video of of you guys zerging >.>
And R.I.P. to the vT charr warrior who tried but was not fast enough to run away, try as he might.
Do you even know what zerging is?
Ah sorry, an issue of scale. 20 is usually considered a zerg here on CD, where that’s about how many we have on EBG most of the day. I’m sure that’s a different story on BP where you have about that many people sitting on SMC siege half the time.

Was expecting something more impressive given all that hype and pomp. Am disappoint.
Am disappoint in your trollin’ skill. GET GOOD SON!
Not trollin’. Just dont really think it backs up your attitude.
There’s no impressive “cherry picking” (you stand on a bridge while pugs trickle into a choke).
There’s no impressive d/d play (pretty sure the staff ele pugs carried harder).
There’s no impressive group play.
I’m sure it was fun and all, but you guys kind of just AOE’d in front of you and zerglings ran in and died. I’m sure you guys have better than that, is all I’m saying.
Don’t even gotta say anything with this.
From yesterday.
Happy New Years!

Nobody owns the OS as I trried to explain to your server mates and my own. Its a giant arena who can tell the difference between seeing a few peoplr fight and a 2v2 ‘gvg’. It was two three guildies they went in during off hours and fought or died or did whatever they wanted. Spvp players and duelers need to grow up and realize the world isn’t theirs only. If I run a zerg v zerg build and am alobe running to my group and a dueler or roamer finds me in his build I have no chance and will die. If a roamef or dueler is found by a. Wvw group he will die. See how it’s all relative? This is a war based game. Our guild fought with 23 players against map blobs won and lost past few nights . Nobidies crying. Its our chpicd to play a zerg bustin skill group style. Pick you’d style you enjoy and live with its pros and cons. Dont expect the red carpet in the OS. Go spvp is you need sanctioned duels. If spvp isn’t for u then I’m sorry I don’t know what else anybody can do. Its a game figure out how to have fun
BP, quit letting DIE wipe your map blobs.
Props to the level 2 warrior twink from XIII in obsidian sanctum last night. Some intense fights. The prospect of losing to a level 2 really gets the heart racing, but man you hit like a truck— doesn’t leave much room for error. Pretty funny watching you two or three shot thieves.

P.S. Don’t laugh if you don’t know! That kitten is srs!
LOL, I remember that guy from the first week of leagues. That kitten was scary while playing glass mesmer. Took me a minute to figure out wtf was going on.
Edit: If anyone wants to duel a mesmer who refuses to run the meta phantasm/condi ez mode builds and instead plays glassy shatter, send me a whisper in game. I’d offer 2v2’s but alas, my long time partner Initialose has abandoned me in favour of another game. My other half is gone, I am so lost.
No reason to be lost. I can help you find your way pal.
Your friend
~Obs
NoOoOo! Don’t stray down the path to the dark side, Gwyndork!
Do duel me in Spvp though. I need some practice against a good shatter mesmer.

If this poll comes to a vote, stacked servers win.. again ^^
I’ll pay you 50g from our warchest to vote for beegee!
WTS vote. Minimum offer starting at 50g.
Had some fun on my Necro messing around with builds last night.. Thanks for the fights.. No thanks for the zerging me..
You must be the XOXO power necro! I think you hit my buddy for an 8k+ lifeblast. brb, wtb more +crit damage.
Just started playing power necro this week. Is too much fun. Been skirmishing against you guys quite a bit and it’s been good practice. I’ve had some fun duels with your thieves, too.
NV enjoyed the fights tonight from both eBay and cd. Thank you KoMe for the gvg
No love for us pugs?

No love for the ones who ran up the hill and joined the gvg.
Edit: plz dont say it was even numbers I recorded the gvg and managed to catch a glimpse of at least 4 extras coming up the hill and from behind the windmill. Overall we had fun it was good training we decided to leave after realising we were outnumbered
Lemme know when you upload that video m8

Oh YB and FA… tsk tsk tsk How many times do we need to go over this?
You know PDoX owns the Obsidian Sanctum; quit trying & get back to your zergs.
Do you actually think this is something to be proud of? Kinda sad really.
Uh, sorry about that >.>
Shout out to NA and ORB!….Only guys to stop and fight me as I was running solo yesterday just before primetime. The rest just tried to zerg me or ran b/c they weren’t in a zerg. Seems like most of the fights I got into were interrupted by those rude zergs, but hey, it keeps you on your toes always watching your back for 50 people trying to role one person. I’m not mad at the zerg…they see red and it’s dead…I respect that.
The fight I most remember from yesterday I believe was with an ORB engi. I had a good fight with you in the ruins (some pesky thief interrupted us too) and again just north of the NE camp below the centaurs. Good show bro! Keep it up.
Hehe, hey there.
Definitely some good fights. Always a delight to run across a skilled opponent.
May we meet again!
And here I was beginning to think that this was going to be the most bland and formulaic matchup thread ever.
NSP logic:
CD is taking our BL’s, lets go IOJ!!
Also great fights at bay to CD, can’t hold out against those numbers for ever though but hey, 3rd times a charm
I don’t think its logic at all. I think its the fact most of us despise Ioj. Ioj has always fed on Nsp when we are underfire from another server. Not just this match. But all the time.
I know when I load up wvw. I don’t even look at the map. I go right to Ioj.
oh fair enough, explains why when we hit CD we gotta pull back to deal/react to NSP a lot, also explains why CD lead is only getting bigger, THE FIGHT FOR 2ND PLACE IS ON!
I used to like you guys on GoM :’(
Although if I remember right I think DH was our common enemy. (been a while)IOJ is constantly in NSP’s borderland. screenshot from early Sunday morning
Don’t act surprised when we go farm your BL for easy badges after we finish cleaning up after your zergs.
We go because cd na won’t come to our bl.
In your BL at least an couple hours each night, our NA is just a bunch of night owls. Busy taking your EB keep during the day anyway. Our borderland has been a complete snooze fest though :\
God I love bomb kit. Giddy with excitement.
Engineer bunker is nowhere near what it was in its prime, before the smoke bomb, elixir r, and kit refinement nerfs. That was the most fun I’ve ever has in a game. Although it’s probably still not the most effective, bunker is still my favorite to play. IMO, it’s best played more as a far point harasser. Pretty much forces the opponents to send reinforcements or risk a decap. With rocket boots, I see the play style analogous to the old d/d else’s.
You are that one.
Hah, hey man what’s up! You’re the guardian/ele that we teamed up with and dueled together right? (or am I mistaken when another BUNS guy)
That was fun. Then the BP zerglings kept trying to chase us around. A whole zerg trying to catch single players was funny.
Either way, had fun with the BUNS guy when we invited him to the party and we started teaming up against BP.
That would be Bostie and Emi.
There is only about six of us.
Starlight and I run [BUNS], we are the couple necro team most see roaming about.
The famous Honeybuns!
Curse you Honeybunses! Whenever I manage to get caught frolicking around your keep there’s sure be a Honeybuns in the bloodthirsty pack. Stay away!
However, I came here to pay my respects to the guildless little asura turret engi who has made it his life mission to meet me head on at every turn. If you are listening little guy, I admire your persistence and, though we may be on different sides, I feel we have grown so close over the course of this senseless conflict. Perhaps, had the circumstances been different, we could have been best buddies.
Honeybunses, if you know this fearless soldier, make sure these words reach his ears.
To everyone screaming lrn2play: Yes, it is possible to beat builds utilizing perplexity. It’s possible to beat anything given the tools to counter it. However, the fact remains, runes aren’t supposed to require counter play.
What other rune set can come close to dictating the flow of a fight as much as Perplexity? None. I run a perplexity engi build. I can stack 20+ confusion with relative ease. With my 5 AoE interrupts and additional single target it can get pretty ridiculous. Taking around 4k damage an attack kinda hurts.
Sure, just cleanse it. Along with the other half a dozen conditions, by the time you actually get to the confusion you’re probably dead. I stopped running them. Too cheese.
But, like I said, runes are not supposed to dictate the flow of an encounter. They are not meant to force an opponent to either go on the defensive or pop a condi clear every several seconds. You’d think this was a given. As it is now, any engineer not running perplexity is essentially gimping himself (With a possible exception of might stacking builds). I want my freedom back!
Sowwy, I dont play in NA.
But you can whisper me ingame and I send you :-* and <3.And maybe I also pay a supersize Happy Meal for you, if I like you.
d’aww, thank you fwend
Its not the thief, I do that with every class I play. I am just better.
;-)
On a serious note: if any class has the tools to beat the condition meta it is P/D-Thief.
Just stop the spam and quit thinking black or white. I am grey.
plz stream or join my tpvp team so I can revel in your greatness.
Superior Sigil of Generosity fixed perplexity issues for me. In fact now I love facing thieves 1v1 that use them.
Best you can do is a single CD transfer every 10s… every necro and engi you pop that on worth their salt is not even noticing it. That sigil has an ICD of 10s.
A good condi bunker will drop 4+ condis and keep them up. Even after a stealth/shadowstep which will likely cleanse 5 CDs, they just stack it right back up. Duel a decent condi bunker then come back and have a conversation because it will be a different one.
I don’t even bother with them anymore because an engi will just bomb his way out and a necro will tor-fear or plague form. Good luck if you run into two of them.
Please Tell me more about your knowledge concerning thieves fighting condibunkers.
I said it helps and if you dont spam skills mindlessly it can even be controlled. If you cant, well then learn it. This game isnt rocket science and dodging is no random action.
I yet have to die vs one of the above classes in my PD build.
Tell me you stream. I so want to see this thief that outplays every engineer and necro. Unless you just do the PD thing and run away when you get to 75% health.
There’s a human (maybe norn?) female engineer from the [roam] guild that is probably one of the nastiest engineers I’ve ever fought against on any server, even if most are running very similar builds. You musta known your class before all that came out because you are just ugly to fight. :] And if not, well, go you.
Speaking of which, props to all the engis out there in this matchup that refuse to perplexity. Can’t say I don’t own a perplexity set, but it’s no fun killing someone as they stand there helpless with 20+ stacks of confusion on them. :S
P.S. Rudan! keep your confusion baton away from me too!
(edited by Recursivision.2367)
that [TIME] engie at our keep keeping it contested was a real pain in the kitten till we dropped road markers everywhere
Hey der cutie pie
So happy I found some new play mates.
Well, if you’re going to vilify our whole server…
I was thinking about running CM this week for a new rune set… but now I kind feel like farming Tears of IoJ by tapping dat all week. I can’t recall at the moment, but you guys are blue right? God I love blue keep.
I’m an aussie in OCE primetime, guess I’m a troll then
Aww, it’s okay Sin, you ridiculous Aussie troll.
Confirming this troll is a CD’er. I was with the group running in CDBL. At one point someone said something in TS about building trebs in an enemy keep. Now, none of us knew what the hell he about and didn’t hear anything further from him. I wish in had noted who it was, but at the time his nonsensical comment wasn’t high on my concerns. Unfortunately free trials make this sort of thing possible.
Even if it is an ex-CD player griefing you guys, that doesn’t entitle you all to make sweeping generalizations of an entire server of thousands based on the actions of one person. Using that train of thought, I would assume that everyone in the US is a mentally unstable gunman. You can’t just make two observations, skip a few steps, then draw a conclusion. That’s not how logic works.
I came here from CD … everyone I first played this with was from CD. And yeah, this is totally something they thought was hilarious. I think it’s funny too, especially the part about claiming to be from Core.
also you forgot Overweight
Sarlina here, who apparently still has a bone to pick with CD, can attest to the fact that we have little respect for spies ourselves. Caught her repping [Lost] and roaming around our BL “doing her dailies” when we were matched up against them in a previous matchup. I think I made it clear to you then, Sarlina, how we feel about spying, and that goes for or against us.

So much fun last night in CDBL. I don’t know if it’s ever seen so much action outside of reset. Hope you liked our welcoming party CNB! Seriously though, you guys are relentless! Certainly know how to keep up the pressure. Luckily we has some awesome scouting and response across the maps last night.
