The argument is simple, fix asap the render issue or change stealth , you can choose, but half times i fight against a rogue 1vs1 , i can see in combat log, unknown hit you for X(hi render/stealth bug).

This render issue is only in WvW right? i never really noticed a problem in Spvp on my ele.

No, actually, it never occurs in s/tPvP because there’s a maximum of 16 players on the map at any given time and very rarely are they all in the same area. The game systems are more than capable of handling 16 players.

Don’t post false information, especially when you’re clearly biased.

The render bug exist in Spvp, not is false information……it is not about your pc, it is about the game engine.

Thats what many people fail to realize and it drives me nuts. Before any discussion of “fixing” or nerfing thieves stealth first the culling issue needs to be addressed.

If culling was fixed there would be no “perma stealth” (unless a group of 3+ thieves or more really wanna tunnel along slow as a slug shadow refuge’ing across wvw)

I say Vulnerability and weakness because many classes have 2 effects on thier 1 skill 3 chain.

necro scepter is bleed bleed posion.
thief dagger gains endurance and then posions.
its not too crazy to have 2 small effects.

The idea that axes “arent stealthy weapons” doesn’t matter. We are THIEVES, not rogues or assassins. Thieves could use conceivably any weapon, why not axes?

I dream my norn thief was a shadowblade!

Maximizing on positional strikes would be awesome. Maybe some side / front / back combos to be executed in a chain so it takes some skill timing it and weaving around just the right way to the enemy.

Attacks would be:

Stealth 1:
Gut : inflicts bleed on the target for X seconds X dmg X duration. and cripples for 1 second.

Attack 1a: Slash:
Attack 1b: Hack: Dmg + vulnerability (2 or 3 stacks) short duration
Attack 1c: Chop: Dmg + weakness (short duration)

2: Cleave: swing both weapons for a frontal 180 degree arc attack.

3: Throw Hatchets: Thief pulls hatchets from his armor and throws a flurry of blades. (600 range) (cripple)

4: Side strike: deals X dmg from any position (low) and deals Y dmg from sides (medium+posion)

5: (instead of cloak and dagger ish thing, give us a mesmer like evade strike)
where it requires a timed block then gives 2-3 seconds of evasion and moderate dmg.

just some thrown together thoughts, obviously others could come up with better but what about the general concept? Dual Axes on Thiefs, or at least a Axe as a MH option like sword.

A single fix that would help balance stealth.

AOE damage should break stealth; problem fixed.

That would totally neuter the thief class.

You can already damage us in stealth, removing stealth on dmg would eradicate our only means of defense.

Thieves have at maximum 4 ways to enter stealth:

cloak and dagger
shadow refuge
blinding powder
healing skill

Each one of these has limitations, that, if you know them, are easily exploited to the thieves demise.

Cloak and dagger – they have to be in melee range
Shadow refuge – have to stay in the aoe circle for at least 2 seconds for the stealth effect to take hold, has a big HOUSE that says im right here, and lasts for 8 seconds additional.
Blinding powder stealths you for a good 3 seconds, thats it.
Healing Skill stealth, same deal about 3 seconds of stealth.

All these things have cooldowns.

If a thief is specced for improved move speed in stealth, and +1 second on stealth skills, ya…it can add up. but then he is doing no dmg because he speced into the defensive trees.

Disabling Shot makes you evade attacks, it’s a dodge and cost less than infiltrator’s, which doesn’t evade. Disabling Shot is very useful in situations like that annoying giant Boss in Arah that fires OP missiles everywhere and you don’t have enough endurance left to dodge. Infiltrator Arrow wont save you as effectively. It would be nice though if it moved you in the direction you’re moving instead of always backwards. Wish Roll for Initiative did that as well.

Wish to god Cluster Bomb was faster. In WvWvW you fire one at a distance and have to wait 9 days till you can fire another one because detonate replaces it. This makes your Initiative pretty much worthless in a long range fight.

Agree, what would be nice is if we had some type of ability for long rnge where the longer you hold the skill the more initiative, range, and dmg goes higher. While rooting you in place like a 1-2-3-4second draw to the bow then one powerful long range shot. That would be something really cool and would give us a nice initiative drainer that we badly need for sb in ranged fights.

make it like

1second draw yeilds 300-600 range
2 second draw yeilds 600-900 range
3 sec draw yeilds 900-1000 range.

and maybe have a 4 second part that takes some skill to click at the right time to go for the 1200 range. Give the shot a High Velocity Speed, High Dmg, High Initiative Cost. maybe taking 2 initaitive per second. up to 8 total. for a perfect strike.

This is so true, it’s not even funny. And so many warrs complain about thieves.

Playing both a warrior and thief, I must say, the thief is a lot more powerful. A warrior, when fully geared towards bursting damage, has one trick up their sleeves every minute or so. That trick is easy to dodge, or when caught, you just need a single stun breaker (remember to keep one against a warrior). The thief, on the other hand, can just recover using stealth and try his one-shot-kill move again.. and again.. and again. Until you succeed, or give up and walk away (in case of bunker Guardians and Elementalists).

whats this magical one shot kill move you speak of?

Cause Im Traited for 30 pts in the power tree, 30 pts in precision, 10 in trickery, and have nearly FULL berserker +crit dmg gear on (about +100% crit dmg)

And my backstabs hit for about 6.5k on people in WvW. If you have Less than 7 thousand health in WvW, something is terribly terribly wrong.

I dunno about half of them, but ya I agree there are a few that are quite lacking.

The shortbow, the longbow, the mace, the focus, and the pistol all come to mind as being relatively meh.

The Dagger, Axe, Sword, Greatswords, Hammer, and Rifle however are quite awesome.

Agree on the mace….if each of those squares was instead a pointed pyrimid, and each section spun around, that might be kinda intimidating. But even still the handle looks fairly weak and too fluffy for a mace.

Needs to be more rugged and bulky / spiky for sure.

This is kind of what I think of when I think Epic Mace.

Equipment Loadout Hotkey

Please Add the ability to have 2 sets of equipment loadouts that we can change out of combat.

Would be very helpful to be able to swap from a DPS berserker set to a Tanky spec for the harder dungeons.

How are Caltrops not broken?

Other classes are not spamming aoe on the ground while being invisible and unattackable. I know no other aoe that stacks so quickly and does so for 14 seconds.

The caltrops that spawn on dodge roll do ridiculously low dmg, the utility skill of caltrops itself doesnt even do that much and it has a cooldown so its not gonna be spammed.

Get a condition removal skill or just cc the thief. This skill is hardly broken or op. Lots of other classes have similar things that do dmg on dodge rolls, and no one complains about those. Just use a condition counter, cc or just dont run into them. problem solved.

How are Caltrops not broken?

The only thing broken about Caltrops is the fact that you can solo a lord and ignore its minions.

Pretty much every class I’ve played can solo a lord. Caltrops or not.

More areas that are just open killing fields / Forests / rolling hills.

Upgradeable spike traps / Flame Traps

A network of Tunnels connecting to Dungeon room areas of the keeps where its possible to attack from (possibly underwater) This would open up more avenues of attack and make defense more interesting.

Seige Ladders (30-50 Supply) for scaling walls.

Canyons.

Cave networks

Possible Large meta group event where players can turn in trophies from the dead to summon Fire Effigies, Dragons, Bribe Ettins, or some kind of giant NPC to fight for their server (just 1 summonable boss per server, maybe a different one for red/blue/and green , that just roams around the map or flys around the map and periodically strafes down along castles and spews fire.)

What I really want to know is…

Why does it matter to you guys that you make tons of gold?
What does that gold get you at the end of the day? – Exotics,

And Since Exotics are, in my opinion, a pretty reasonable place for the time it takes to acquire them, once you have full exotics…why do you need to make so much money?

Don’t you realize at that point you are prepped to actually just go out and enjoy PLAYING the content of the game.

Having gold being kind of hard to get is WAY better than having it too easy to get.

And like I said before, at the end of the day when you have full exotics what is all that gold good for? Theres not a whole lot to be spending gold on…food, seige, and potions.

Those 3 things arent that expensive so as to cause this much of a fuss.
Granted Legendaries are there and they are quite “expensive” to get. but thats the point. They are L-e-g-e-n-d-a-r-y. They need to take that long time to make or it takes all the umphff out of them.

They are even going to put in a scavenger hunt for precursors, so I just dont see what all the fuss is about. Can you tell us why the current economy is making you not enjoy the game?

Since it’s hard to tell who is who, you don’t know who you’re killing or who killed you.

And that was the whole point of DAoC’s beat squads. Ego.

maybe thats something that can be implemented then. Telling you who killed you in the combat log.

I love World versus World, but sadly I am among those with not such a good PC to run the really intense fights with large numbers of people.

I am here to suggest the addition of new areas around the wvw zones that would be the perfect spot for people like myself to enjoy smaller skirmishes.

Namely, If you could create some small thickly forested areas, or possibly add a small network of underground tunnels and caverns to fight in.

As of right now I am pretty much limited to attacking dolyaks as they come around on the supply route, and fighting near supply camps. I just can’t help but think that you guys could come up with some awesome innovative terrains that would be suitable for players like myself.

Just a suggestion!

WvW Titles

Would be awesome if you could implement WvW titles for a Certain amount of player kills reached. Epic titles tiered to scale for years to come to distinguish those who have played for a long time in the mists.

So that players wouldnt be seen as just “Servername Invader”

but something like , " Battlemaster of Servername" or “Knight of Servername” or “Warlord of Servername”

Something to just distinguish the veterans from the newbloods.

This is the kind of action I’d LOVE to see.

Reminiscent of the roaming 8v8’s in DAoC.
Is there any support out there to start up some roaming 5’s groups out in wvw?

Personally I would find wvw SO much more enjoyable if people Started to do this as opposed to the “zerg” thing. Imagine if your server pairings all did this.

There would easily be some 30-50 5 man groups of each faction zigzagging around the map in awesome small scale skirmishes.

Maybe its just me. But if anyone likes this idea hit me up in game. (looking to put together a 5 man crew)

Reading these replies the one thing that disgusts me are the blatant posts by non thieves coming in here trying to nerf our class into the ground.

You really need to have separate forums for feedback BY thieves and feedback from people who don’t play them. You’d see the HUGE discrepancy between the two groups on just exactly what needs fixing and what doesn’t.

Taking peoples views at equal face value without first determining what side of this fence they are on is going down a bad path if you want real fixes.

Personally as a thief these are my top concerns:

Fix the culling bug – (before you address anything else)

Tweak Initiative cost on Dancing Dagger

Fix Flanking Strike

Possibly add the option to dual wield swords.

Look at Traps (right now they are rarely used)

Remove Quickness – or make it increase initiative gain (and or add vigor) for X seconds instead of attack speed.

Fix Pistols to be useful for something besides single target ranged.

Tweak Shortbow skills ( 2 is very clunky to use, too high of an arch makes it impossible to use in a tunnel and it takes entirely too long to land from when fired. )

Shortbow could benefit greatly from some type of timed skill that goes farther the longer we aim it. (maybe starting at 900, then going to 1050 then 1200 for a 1-2-3 second pull on the bow.) Giving us a REAL single target attack on the bow.

Don’t allow Cloak and Dagger to be precast before Steal (keep the dmg)

(and please, please, please dont be hasty with tweaking damage numbers until you FIRST and FOREMOST fix the bugs and things like precasting Cloak and Dagger first)

I’m using Arachnophobia. It’s one of the Halloween exotics. Some may say its a little dated but I like it.

I am SOOOOO jealous of you.

I want that shortbow skin SO bad. Its the last item I need to complete my look.

Sadly, people are charging approx 130+ gold for it and I’m terribad at farming gold.

They have the same stats as the "guild _______ backpacks " from wvw, only without a upgrade slot.

Whats the purpose of spending 1350 fractal tokens on these if they have less stats than something thats only 5gold?

They dont have an infusion slot or anything making them better. What gives?

Whats the word on Superior Sigils of Strength? 30% chance on crit to gain might for 10 seconds sounds kinda awesome for double daggers. (especially if you got a Critical Haste proc)

Having a Hard time trying to decide on what runes/sigils to use for my d/d setup

Torn between These for sigils:

-Double +5% crit
-Double Lifesteal
-Double Fire (aoe proc 5 sec icd)
-Double Air (single proc 5 sec icd)

And for Runes and Crests Cant decide whether to go:

-x6 Crests of Soldier (120power, 84vit 84 toughness)
-x6 Crests of Rabid (120power, 84 precision, 84 condition)
-x6 Runes of Mesmer (and use sword/dagger for the nice 2.66second daze and precision / power)
-x6 Runes of Eagle (for the precision and crit dmg and dmg while -50 hp)
-x6 Runes of Vamprism (might be cool using those and x2 sigils of blood + malice healing skill)
-x6 Runes of the Thief (for Precision, Condition dmg, and +10% positional dmg)
-x6 Runes of Rata Sum (Precision +15% posion duration and 50% chance to proc radiation field)
-x6 Runes of Rage (mad crit dmg)
-x6 Runes of Infiltrator (
50 precision 10% dmg to -50% or under hp foes, and Cloak at 10% hp proc)
-x6 Runes of Air for (
10% crit dmg, bonus swiftness perks, and 20% chance to cause lightning strike when hit)
-x6 Runes of Scholar for 165 power, +8% crit dmg and +10% dmg when hp is above 90% (for that first initial combo)

Just Can’t decide, I can see All these being useful in certain situations on my Thief.
I’m leaning toward using the Lifesteal or Flat +crit on weapons, and then using either scholar, infil, thief, or vamprism for the armor, but its still SOO hard to decide.

What do my fellow thieves think about the above choices. (Stick to these, I defiantly do not want to use the other options)

Yuuuup, same exact thing for me. Its SOOOO frustrating and makes trying to pvp on a melee class that relies on positionals absolutely agonizing…

Its defiantly not the mouse. Ive tried it in every other program and on another computer and it works 100% fine. its ONLY guildwars 2 that has this issue.

How can you say there is no counter to stealth?

the counter is AOE dmg. Use it.

Granted….the rendering bug NEEDS to be fixed. but thats a BUG, not an issue with the class mechanics. Dont get them confused.

Thieves ARE squishy. Fix the rendering bug and we are fine. Do anything else and thieves will leave game en mass.

IDK what these thieves are doing to hit you people for 18k+ dmg. I’ve never seen a backstab anywhere near that and I use Runes of the Thief, Berserkers Amulet, and 30 pts down both power and precision trees.

My backstabs hit for about 5k.

If backstab gets nerfed because a select few people have screen shots of being hit for 18k dmg its gonna screw over the many thieves who run “normal” builds like me into complete uselessness.

Someone SHOW me how your hitting for 18k on a backstab. I want to see exactly what armor , buffs, etc you AND your target are using…cause 18k sounds a bit ridiculous to me after the Signet nerf. (Before the signet nerf, ya maybe….every 1 min or so….but now….i just dont see how)

Currently….i dont know whats causing this. But with my razer naga mouse (brand new drivers and firmware installed) the right click in this game is REALLY irritating and doesnt seem responsive like 60% of the time when I’m trying to hold it down and free move my camera.

I’ve tried binding the right click to the “free move” camera button , but it wont allow that as an option. My right click works 100% fine in EVERY other application and on the desktop.

I’d Love some suggestions to fix this problem, or LOVE to be able to bind right click to the free camera button. Right now with how it is, its REALLY frusterating to try and play melee in this game which is sad cause I love it so much.

Please help!

I’d really like someone to post the actual values for dmg and healing values of each sigil so we can get a better comparison.

Knowing the approximate dmg / healing range of each sigil is kind of nessicery to determine their actual worth.

The problem with venoms is that it’s pretty clear ANet balanced them around the grandmaster trait to share them with allies. Without that trait they are very underwhelming for the length of their cooldowns. With the trait they’re only great if you have 4 other players to make use of them AND wouldn’t otherwise hit the condition caps without them.

IMO venoms should have that grandmaster trait baked into their basic functionality. Warriors, guardians and rangers don’t have to trait to share their banners, shouts and spirits. I see no real reason why thieves couldn’t work the same way. It would also improve the thief’s group utility and make room for a new support option of some kind.

Indeed, That trait is pretty much the only thing stopping venoms from being awesome. If that was baked into venoms already and we didnt have to trait for it, A venom would surely make its way onto my skillbar 90% of the time.

Stealth while stomping

Its called AoE.
Stealth Stomping and Stability Stomping both have counters, find them, use them, profit. Don’t dumb down the game and take away mechanics just you dont like them.

the rendering bug needs nerfed. if a GOOD thief can chain his stealth skills right he deserves to be in and out of stealth through a fight. the rendering bug that allows a theif to appear stealthed even when not for serveral seconds is all thats wrong with this. having to use aoe’s to hit a target that the client should be showing but is not is whats the problem.

True….and for technicality sake…the bug needs to be fixed, not nerfed. (your implying it was put in intentionally.)

Its not a problem at all. Like others said carry a melee and ranged weapon.

The main problem with people complaining about zergs (from a melee perspective) is that when a fight breaks out, they try to charge in without any help and get singled out by range before they can reach them.

And that’s their fault really. You need to use Flanking tactics, swiftness, and coordination with other Melees to charge together (possibly with some warriors or guardians in front with protection or shield rushing with the squishier melee behind them)

Use your head, use tactics, use Voice communication, use teamwork…and there is no problem.

The Warriors 3 skill will kill them unless they trait for it. If you trait for it, if you kill someone during your vengeance, you just stay alive. (which is perfectly fine for having to slot it)

Im inclined to agree with evilapprentice.6379 , there are different types of downed skills for a reason, each adds a layer of depth to combat and effectively counters the other. If you happen to not like your downed skill, play the other class. =P

This is defiantly an issue and is one of the reasons I have (as a pvp player) sadly decided to stay out of Spvp for the time being.

Hardly anyone goes for the objectives of the game, because they know they can get more glory just farming kills. So games end up being not even close cause most of the time, one team has 0 people who care about objectives and go for kills, and the other team has 1 or 2 that do, win the game for their team while the rest of their team is engaged in battle.

Whats worse, is that the people that DID the objectives, get MUCH LESS glory than the people who completely ignored them.

The system really needs to be looked at cause right now hot join pvp is just NOT fun.
More incentive needs to be placed on the objectives, rewards need to be better for the ones doing the objectives, and there needs to be a higher discrepancy between winning and losing a match as far as glory goes. Because as it stands now, you can be on the losing team ignoring objectives and going for kills, and earn WAY more than the winning team whose members went for the objectives and got slightly less kills.
