Ascended Gear Infusions - Agony Resistance?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Retrospek.4583

Because all other infusion(defense/offense) require 250 karka shells/passion fruits and 100 t6 mats and few skill points.

Also, when you infused the ring, any infusion on the ring will be remove, hence before one upgrade their ring to the infused version, it is better to just put a simple Infusion.

Ah, perfect explanation, thank you. I thought the infusions sold by the Laurel vendor were the ones that contained the Agony Resistance, but it wasn’t showing up in the description of the item. Now I understand perfectly, thank you so much!

I’m not sure if I understand this, the wiki seems to show that ALL infusions provide +5 Agony Resistance. If this is the case, why does the “Versatile Simple Infusion” only provide +5 Agony Resistance, it provides no other benefit.

So, my question is, why would anyone purchase the “Versatile Simple Infusion”, if according to the wiki they all provide +5 Agony Resistance, but the others provide additional buffs as well?

Thanks for any help on this.

Why do people play WvWvW?

Retrospek.4583

I can’t figure out why anybody plays WvWvW. There are no rewards, huge costs, and the outcome of all battles is determined strictly by which side happens to have the most players.

Can someone please explain what motivates people to play WvWvW?

Thank you.

Isn’t this like asking why do you play MMO’s (or at least this one) when in life, you don’t get anything for it. You don’t get more money (if anything, you pay money), you don’t get fame or glory outside of the game, and in the end, you’ll move onto another game to play.

Why do we do it? For the same reason…it’s called entertainment. The reward is itself, the entertainment and thrill of fighting against another server.

Honestly, if you don’t get it, no amount of explaining it here will make you understand. I don’t pretend to understand why people find it thrilling to travel the world, but I know several people who do. It’s no different than this.

“Also WoW rogues only took damage from AoEs while stealthed whereas everything damages a thief while in stealth in this game(as long as you are in range). Not to mention channeled skills still doing damage to stealthed thieves whereas in WoW this was not possible.” – Sureshot

Funny you say that all skills that hit thieves in this game while stealth… Yes, you’re right, if they were channeled BEFORE they went stealth they do hit them (which often happened in WoW as well, played a rogue there myself), but try channeling a non-AoE skill and hitting something you can’t target nor see.

Amazing what length OP classes will go to, to defend broken mechanics.

In other games I have played there was always a 30 – 60 minutes warning. Which was repeated ever 10 or 5 minutes and in the last 5 minutes every minute.
I wondered this myself why there is no real announcement in game with a more reasonable time frame and repetition. 5 or 3 minutes before shutdown / restart is kinda rude. I doubt it is all the time an emergency more likely an in advanced known action coming up.

This, exactly.

I understand there are times when it’s an emergency, but I don’t think that more than half the time constitutes an emergency patch/shutdown of the servers.

Luckily, we weren’t in our Fractal run like the last time they did this, so I guess I should be happy, hehe

A proper proposal to fix the problems with thieves in my opinion would be that not only does outgoing damage break stealth, but also incoming damage breaks stealth.

stealth breaking on damage taken would just kill the thieves.

i still believe the best solution is to apply revealed debuff every time they come out of stealth.

Stealth breaking on damage would negate a thief from systematically picking groups off one by one, however, 1 versus 1, or even 3 versus 1, a thief would most likely come out on top.

I am, however, curious as to how this concept of the revealed debuff would work. If this is a better proposal to fix the issues with permastealth/reset of fights, I’m all for it.

The real problem I see with thieves is as follows:

Thieves can take damage while stealth, including conditions, but if they use the heal/stealth ability, it removes DoT’s. That being said, the issue I see is that it’s generally accepted that thieves/rogue classes don’t actually go invisible, rather they “hide in shadows” thru cunning and deception. It’s a little difficult if someone smacks you for 5k of damage to keep quiet and “hide in shadows” with this accepted concept of stealth.

A proper proposal to fix the problems with thieves in my opinion would be that not only does outgoing damage break stealth, but also incoming damage breaks stealth. And to top this off, healing should also have a chance to remove the conditions, something to the effect of 50% chance to remove all conditions, or possibly even 100% to remove up to 3 conditions (which would probably be a better balance, as a thief against 5 players would have less of a fighting chance if multiple people DoT them up).

I like the method that another game uses, where you can set the icon target on multiple things. For example, you can use a yellow star for the leader, and a blue diamond for the first target to take down, second target is a half moon, etc. etc.

This method is nice, as everyone in the party can then easily see where different targets are. In a perfect world, they would also show up on the minimap as well.

There is one main reason I don’t want this feature, and it has nothing to do with taking away your fun:

It’s a waste of dev time when you essentially do the same thing by playing multiple toons.

By doing what you are saying, the only benefit to anyone doing this is not having to use multiple character slots, and because that’s a source of income for the dev team (thru gem purchase), not only is it a waste of dev time, but it won’t happen.

I’m sorry you feel you need to create alts that have the same look, it’s tough, I know, but it’s a helluva lot harder for the dev team to rewrite the characters to suit you, which seems to be the only one who wants this feature.

Let me get this straight – you want to be able to change from a warrior to a mesmer to an elementalist, etc. on the same character?

If that’s the case, they have multiple character slots for that exact purpose. I could understand wanting to change crafting professions (they have that) and also class builds (wished they would add this), but changing classes (professions) would destroy the whole purpose of having multiple story lines and extra character slots.

Edit : Just realized you are advocating that the player level up each profession individually as well (much like crafting), so if that’s the case, how is this any different than having alts on other character slots?

Why would you want to go to starter areas at lvl 80? Unless completing map or helping ppl. Sounds to me like you just wanna farm stuff from bosses, well this ain’t wow so get off your high horse burgers and deal with it!

Actually, at level 80 here are a few reasons why you would want to go back to lowbie areas:

1) Map completion as you said.
2) Farming materials for crafting (whether for your toon, guildies or selling on trading post)
3) Events
4) Helping a friend/guildy.
5) Jumping Puzzles
6) Some people enjoy exploring the landscape of areas they might have unlocked, but didn’t explore completely.

And I’m sure there are plenty of other reasons.

That being said, again, I think the downscaling is okay now and really doesn’t need tweaking.

Honestly, for my playstyle, the being stuck in combat is more of what I hate then being downed or even killed.

Holding a player in combat in WvW or sPvP with long-ranged conditions, so they can’t heal up is a very common tactic for turning the tide of a fight.

This is simply a part of the game’s design, no valid justification for change here. It’s simply the weakness of your build, and something you have to accept if you don’t want to counter it.

After re-reading this thread, I don’t think anyone mentioned this as being a problem in WvW or sPvP. We were referring to mobs. More specifically, random normal mobs, not even champions or legendaries.

I never once disputed the reasoning for doing it in PvP/WvW. When I play in WvW, I change the build around to suit that playstyle.

That being said, I fail to see the validity of your argument.

And I was playing my Mesmer today, and skill #6 doesn’t have any way to remove conditions on him, so it’s not all classes/races that can.

When I said that, I was talking about in conjunction with condition removal food. The #6 skill is the one that triggers ‘on heal’ procs like in the linked food. And I believe with mantra of recovery, it can trigger off the 2 charges too.

But yeah, like the post above says, memser is probably the last class that can complain about condition removal.

Ah, okay, wasn’t complaining about not having condition removing skills, I realize that the utility skills can remove them quite easily, I misunderstood your post about the combination with food.

I don’t have a problem with adapting to the environment at all, but yes, I do prefer playing glass cannon type builds, and do accept the deaths. I just find some of the duration of conditions from regular mobs to be insane at times, no matter what toon I’m playing (I’m an altaholic, so I play quite a few builds).

Honestly, for my playstyle, the being stuck in combat is more of what I hate then being downed or even killed.

There is where the actual problem lies with the outside world when it comes to mobs that use conditions. You often times run into mobs if exploring (zone map completion for example) that use conditions, but not all mobs do on a map.

In a dungeon fight, you know the static spawns, and have time to prep for the fights, changing out the skills. If you know you’ll be hunting in a specific area, again, you can prep for the fights. It’s when you’re out exploring that having a condition removing skill all the time when you only have 3 skills to choose from, it’s a pain.

Also, I agree with the food item, you can use that in battle, and for that, I’d really like to have a few extra quick slots that we can place potions, food, harvesting items, etc. in, but that’s a whole other suggestion there.

And I was playing my Mesmer today, and skill #6 doesn’t have any way to remove conditions on him, so it’s not all classes/races that can.

Regardless, as others have pointed out, it depends on the gear you have, and also the class you play.

The #5 skill is a weapon skill, and doesn’t remove conditions.

The #6 skill (healing skill) may remove conditions if you choose the healing skill which does so, but it’s not always the best skill to have in that slot.

And you’re suggesting that people who are out exploring zones who might become poisoned either keep a food buff up that might remove conditions or keep a utility skill (since we only get 3 of them) that can remove conditions rather than skills that can help burn the mobs down? Really?

And before you suggest that after the fight, you could switch out to the skill that will remove the conditions, let me rebuttal that now:

After fights, your skills are most likely on cooldowns. Even when they aren’t, condition effects can keep you in combat, and therefore you can’t swap skills out.

So in a nutshell, I’m not sure how this can be a learning experience. I would understand if we could use all of our skills (or at least more than we can currently), but as it stands we cannot.

Guardians and Thieves have innate abilities to remove the conditions, whereas other classes have to sacrifice useful skills to remove them. I realize this is a tradeoff to play other classes, but this has nothing to do with a learning experience. Once a mob is dead, stacks of conditions are insanely overpowered at times.

People are so ignorant. Do you think the person that made this thread want the mount for the speed buff?

Then he whould make a thread more like: More swiftness spells in the game

The people that want mounts want it mostly for the cosmetic thing.

And why is there a problem on adding this ?

Most people want it for the speed buffs. If it’s for cosmetic reason, I have no problems with it so long as the following conditions were set on mounts:

They cannot be used in Lion’s Arch, Cities, or within a certain radius from an NPC vendor. This would eliminate people standing on NPCs with mounts just to annoy other players (which has happened in EVERY MMO I’ve played where there are mounts).

How can it be a learning experience if not all classes can remove conditions?

Every class has a means to permanently speed themselves up via swiftness, dashes, and teleports.

In a game where we can warp everywhere by way-points, and cross a map within 2 minutes on foot, the need for a mount is non-existent.
And the concept of mounts in other MMOs (where they’re like pokemon you collect and pop out whenever you need, without ever feeding them or tending to them) is kind of sick in my opinion.

Mesmers, as it’s been stated above, do not have a permanent speed buff.

And although I agree that we don’t need mounts, you’re argument seems a bit silly, considering our characters don’t need to stop and eat (or use the little boys/girls room), and Rangers (and Necros) pets don’t require feeding or caring either. And Rangers get over 40 pets, where do they store them?

Trying to apply real world logic and physics to a video game is never a solid ground for debating why something should or should not apply.

What I hate is when the enemy dies and the poison kills me afterwards. I’m out of fighting mode so I can’t heal myself. Causing me to have to use a waypoint even after winning the fight.

“… Use your 4 skill after getting downed to get yourself up.”

It almost seems like toughness has no effect vs fire or poison.

That’s because it doesn’t. Armor doesn’t affect condition damage.

The game doesn’t always give you that option if the fight is already over.

The 4 option isn’t available right away, but it will become available (it starts out on a cooldown).

As for reducing the amount of stacks/time on condition damage from NPC’s, I agree. There are times when 15 seconds AFTER the enemy is dead, I’m downed. That’s insane.

Another nice feature would be a secure crafting window. I find someone who can make the item I want, I have the materials. They open a trade window that displays the item to craft, I put in my materials (and tip/payment) and when we click trade, it makes the item, gives it to the proper party and the other party gets paid. This one would of course require more programming but would be a cool way of doing crafting.

Warrior: Charge (Warhorn) + Signet of Rage active. Permaswiftness.
Ranger, Thief, Necro: movespeed signet.
Necro: Locust Swarm (Warhorn) + Spectral Walk. Nearly permanent swiftness.
Guardian: Symbol of Swiftness + Retreat gets a lot as well.
Only Mesmer is particularly kittened in the travel speed department.

Also even if everyone was slow, kitten mounts. Completely pointless, especially with WPs.

EDIT: Oh, right, forgot Engineer. Speedy Kits with Medkit (or any other kit, but Medkit has Stimulant, which gives a bit of leeway). Permaswiftness.

Necro also has a signet that improves speed by 25%, swarm is 33% though.

Sadly, I love my Mesmer, but get very tired of the slow movement speed on him. He has teleport if you choose that skill in one of the utility slots, and also the speed boost if you choose focus, but no perma-speed boost.

Edit: Almost forgot, other than Mesmers which I would like a signet that gives a speed boost, everything else is very well balanced in my opinion. So, no to mounts.

Is there still a similar problem with the chat suppression? You’d often get suppressed for like an hour if you said the same LFG message in chat twice in a row. At least the GW2 LFG website provided a good workaround for that.

Actually, I used the feast, but still wanted to send them potions to help with the run.

Sadly, though, you’re right, the feasts are a bit pricey for a 5 man dungeon (at least to craft them).

It seems this comes up a lot related to dungeons.

Maybe instead of guild or friends list, it removes the spam trigger for those in your party. Since you have to be in a party to do dungeons, right?

That way those who are PuG’ing it don’t have to worry about a couple people forgetting to do it or what not. But keeps the trigger on the gold spammers.

Because well, your friend who has you on their list just got hacked by a gold seller and then your inbox gets full as they sent mail after mail after mail those on the person’s friend list (because higher chances the friends are mutual).

Even this method would be great for dungeon runs.

Of course, there is another reason I suggested guildies though, and sometimes it’s so that we can (as either officers or leaders) communicate to those offline to let them know when we’ll be doing dungeons, events, etc. I’d like to use a website to do it instead, but let’s face it, most people don’t bother to visit guild websites (kinda discouraging for those of us who design guildsites).

I wanted to send out a big thank you to the gold spamming jerks for limiting the amount of mail I can send out before being blocked.

Thanks to these jerks who spam their gold websites, I was blocked from sending out 4 mails to my party members before a dungeon run. I bought everyone in the party a round of potions to help with the dungeon run. I sent out 2 mails, the third was blocked. I had to wait to send out the other 2.

And now, for the suggestion part:

In other games, I can trade with people standing next to me. I realize that Anet doesn’t want to add in the whole secure trade thing, and I get that, but at least increase the number of mails that can be sent to 4 per minute, or something better than it is now.

Or another way, is that if the other play is in your guild, or you are on THEIR friends list, it doesn’t count as a spam flag. This way would be the optimal way, and still keep the limits as imposed now.

You guys should delete most of the old data slowly as you get more of it. Eventually you’ll have data that’s all from post server lock.

That’s actually a great idea, if they kept, say 2 months of data for the average/deviation of the servers, this should make moving up and down a little quicker, and would provide more variety in matchups. This idea would also push servers to hold their ranks each week moreso than it does now, as once you build up enough of a lead, it’s possible to “relax” for a few weeks.

What's the point of a feast?

in Crafting

Posted by: Retrospek.4583

Retrospek.4583

Feasts are nice for WvW, but sadly there isn’t anything comparable for smaller sizes (pre-dungeon runs for example). I was hoping that feasts would provide a buff for that, but at the cost to create the recipe alone, it’s not worth it for doing dungeons.

As the OP pointed out, most people buff for different things, but if the cost were in line with say 5 different food types, it would be worth laying (most players don’t use buffs even when reminded to do so ahead of time, but will use a feast).

Maybe going forward, Anet could add a “mini-feast” idea in the game. Much cheaper cost (for both the recipe and the crafting of it), but in return it would only have 5-10 uses before it would vanish.

Thanks Anet /sarcasm,

I would’ve rather went with a reset and had the servers balance out quicker than deal with overpopulated sorrows furnace for another whole week at least in WvW. Yeah the next week might have been rough as well for us due to our low population but at least the servers might have balanced out a bit quicker.

Sincerely,
A frustrated Fergusson’s Crossing player

So the reset should have been done purely because T8 is unbalanced? Cause looking at the matchup site the rest of the tiers are all stable therefore as has been stated there is no reason for the reset. SBI is perhaps the only server that is a tier too high but they’ve done just enough to stay in T4.

Again, read my post above. To move the standard deviation when this many numbers has been put into the system requires much more to move it. Before they announced they weren’t going to do the reset, the matchups for next week were nothing like they are now.

I wished I had took a screenshot of the next matchups before the new announcement so that the argument of “every matchup looks pretty even right now” could easily be debunked.

Thx arena net for 1 more WWW FAIL. All servers start figth at this week and now we see what it’s was useless! GJ!

So the previous 5 months were useless as well?

Not necessarily useless, but the point being that without the score reset to deviate the scores enough to move a rank up or down, it will take weeks (since the last 5 months have built up the standard deviations).

With the reset, yes, the next few weeks will be jostled around quite a bit, but it will settle much faster where the servers truly belong.

In a nutshell, try averaging 40 numbers and moving the average up or down 10 points, then try averaging 4 or 5 numbers up or down 10 points. It moves much faster with the lower amount of numbers. Same thing would happen with a reset, without it, it’s going to take weeks if not months for servers to settle where they belong, with most weeks being the same matchups over and over again even for servers getting steamrolled or doing the steamrolling.

Plain and simple, it had nothing to do with their analysis, congrats to the vocal people on here crying enough to get what they wanted, and protect their server standings in the top tiers.

It would have been nice, even if it mixed it up for a few weeks to have different matchups. And I still stand behind the fact that with all the server transfers that took place during the free period (especially right before paid transfers) there are many servers that are out of balance right now.

Edit : Really, what Anet should have done, was not only reset the scores this week, but should have placed the servers based on server population. Then it would have been balanced based on server population, and the chips would fall where they may after that.

Not sure why so many are happy that they aren’t resetting the scores. Resetting the scores will achieve the same results, just in a much shorter time (ie, top servers that suck would fall down, and the better servers would rise to the top).

Ah well, I guess with all the things that Anet could ignore and not fix, this is another they can add to their list.

Just curious, but since this is the week of the reset, shouldn’t they have regrouped all the servers as well? I know in the long run it will balance out how it will, but…since you’re resetting the stats, I figured that the servers would have been put in order based on server population.

I realize that server population isn’t the only thing that dictates who wins in a WvWvW match, but if the servers were set based on population, it would give everyone with lower populations a more fighting chance for the first couple of weeks. The stronger servers would eventually move to the top, regardless of server population, and the weakest would move to the bottom, but this would at least provide a little more balance.

Just a thought….

On the Mandatory Password Change

Changing passwords every now and then is not more secure, and I really wished that so called “experts” would learn it’s bogus. If your password is secure, changing it often only leads most people to writing their passwords down in an area that is insecure (like sticky notes on a computer that anyone can see).

Plain and simple, forcing people to change their passwords is a foolish idea. I have NEVER had an account hacked because someone brute force (or even guessed) my password.

Passwords are generally not hacked, they are stolen by either finding sticky notes, giving the password out to “trusted friends”, or by a password stealing virus.

Guess what? None of those above situations can be remedied by forcing someone to change their passwords. Sticky notes are still there, “trusted friends” will still be trusted, and a password stealing virus (such as a keylogger) will still be on the persons machine stealing their passwords.

/facepalm

Dailies did NOT need Changing.

Killing white creatures (no level) count, so they can be killed with 1 shot. There are a few places in Tyria where there are no less than 10 of them in an area that doesn’t even require swimming further to get more than those 10.

Kill those 10, do something else (even alt-tab for a few minutes) and then do it again. You’re daily will be done in no time.

On a side note though, I agree I hate underwater fighting, and by “forcing” people to do it for their dailies wasn’t a very good decision to get people to do the content that’s not being played much. It’s not fun, that’s why we don’t play it, so change it so it’s fun, not “force” people to do it.

Lol anyway fun times! Should be… brutal against you guys and Maguuma next week. That is of course unless we get some fair weather transfers as well.

LMFAO ROFL – yeah, PRO knows all about those fair weather transfers, don’t they?
