I’ve known that RED is a much larger version of our guild, in that they enjoy WvW, but it’s not their sole purpose to the game, they enjoy the rest of the content as well.

That being said, even if they were a WvW guild, I would still have a lot of respect for them, as I’d rather have a guild that isn’t the best WvW players/strategists that at least stick around, rather than bail on the ship at the first sign of trouble.

Amazing how much PRO thumped their chests claiming they were the only reason we moved up in ranks, yet time and time again I saw many of their commanders spend HOURS on a single point, rather than ninja smaller camps and towers.

Ah well, just glad that we got rid of most of the talkers, and can rebuild and become a better server, with a lot less drama, even if it means we move back down a few tiers or so. I’d rather have fun playing the game and lose, than constantly deal with the drama and bitterness while winning.

If that’s winning, I want to be a loser. :P

That being said, congrats to Kaineng, I think they’ve really stepped up their game since the last time I saw them, and hopefully they can keep the drama and chest thumpers to a minimum.

Level 80 exotic gear has the same weight in stats (different distribution) no matter if it comes from Karma (which can be earned thru PvE), dungeons, or badges from WvW.

Unless I missed something, that means that dungeon gear is no better than doing regular PvE events and earning Karma to get your gear.

I’m not sure where an i7 920 places, but the Radeon HD 6850 is currently ranked 54 on the benchmarks from Passmark (which I find to be pretty reliable on benchmarks). I’d call rank 54 pretty high end, maybe not top end, but still high end. For the recommended requirements for this game, a 6850 should perform very well.

But, regardless, as others have pointed out, it’s more about the culling issues than it is about computer specs at this point.

The server is polling for a ton of things already, the name would make such a little bit of difference it would mean nothing in terms of latency.

It polls for race, class, armor type, armor color, body type (and all the customization that goes into making your character at character creation screen), guild name/tag, etc. etc.

Besides that, my guess is that most of the worlds aren’t true server, rather they are virtual machines running on a cluster of servers, probably sharing an external drive array that runs the SQL server. So basically, there isn’t much network traffic talking between servers, most of it would be done thru the eSATA or SCSI external drive array itself.

Mounts...

Retrospek.4583

Also, it’s funny seeing all of the people cry that they don’t want mounts…. use a waypoint if you want. Run if you want. Stop trying to hijack a good idea for a game company just because you are a crybaby.

Or, alternatively, stop trying to force your minority view on the majority of players. It was made clear from the start that there would be no mounts. Now stop being a crybaby because you could not be bothered to do any research before purchasing the game.

How can you say you have the statistics to say the idea of mounts comes from a “minority” of people?

I didn’t say anything about having statistics. I can however use the Search function – a concept completely alien to the pro-mount crowd, and the number of overwhelmingly negative posts about mounts outnumber pro-mount posts. It’s precisely this reason why a small number of people keep starting new threads each day with the same tired arguments in favour of mounts, i.e. “cuz they luk kool” and “cuz otha MMOs hav em”, whilst deliberately ignoring the reasons against such a feature (world design, game lore, etc).

Hate to break it to you, but it’s been proven time and time again in other MMO’s, that the people who are outspoken on the forums aren’t necessarily their demographics in the game. The majority of MMO players NEVER visit the forums, even once. That being said, if they did ingame polls, versus “using the search function on the forums”, the results could very well be polar opposites.

As for the topic, I’m neither for or against mounts, so long as they are implemented without sacrificing game play (ie, using them in towns to stand on NPC’s), then I don’t care if they added them.

Isn’t this just another concept for an online first person shooter?

Part of the grind and gearing up is what has become the RPG genre over the years, especially when it comes to MMORPG’s. Taking those aspects out of the game, and I fail to see where it would interest people for too long, sorry.

Supply and Demand. The problem you seem to have, is you demand more gold, but do not have the supply.

I couldn’t disagree more with your suggestion, a free market economy should not have caps on it. If you don’t want to pay those prices, then don’t, it will drive the prices down.

Privacy concerns? Really? How is this a privacy concern issue at all. I can add anyone I want to my contact list, without them knowing about it, and track how often they are online…this is not in the least a privacy concern, if it were, MANY other MMO’s would be in trouble for this. Twitter, Facebook, and the rest of those stupid social sites would be getting sued as well.

This is a non-issue.

I don’t really see how this would make a big impact on this game, most games don’t have monthly updates and then i would see this being an amazing idea.

However, as Anet are releasing a update every month anyway it’s basically the same, we write our suggestions/bugs/glitches here so that anet can fix them when they can depending on how important they are.

I would much rather anet work on the most important issues first and worry about the small cosmetic things when they have time to. This idea would force anets resources to work on these ideas instead of working on other issues that might be much more important

I’m not sure how many MMO’s you have played, but almost all the ones I’ve played (and I’ve easily played 15+ MMO’s) they almost all have had regular, if not monthly updates they do.

As for working on important issues first, these are important issues that would be handled, but instead of being a big huge forum (that gets no response from ANet) that has a ton of suggestions, this would allow the dev team to focus on the issues that would impact the majority of players, but at the same time, be easy enough to implement within an hour or so on average. I don’t see how this isn’t a win/win situation, we get actual communication and feedback about our suggestions, and the dev team implement features that help out the majority of the players, not adding a new fuzzy hat.

I couldn’t agree more that I don’t want to see more mini pets added, or another cool town clothing style added before some of the key issues are addressed, but you also have to understand that in most MMO’s, the artists are not the developers either, so by them adding a new fuzzy hat or mini pet flavor of the month, this doesn’t impact the dev team.

As long as nothing that changes game or area difficulty or any major gameplay changes are included, I think that’s a pretty nice idea.

I don’t think this would be an issue here, as anything that would involve major gameplay changes would require more than an hour or so to implement anyhow. This is more for tidbit UI changes, an extra option in a drop down, cosmetic changes, etc.

As time goes on in this game, almost all items will go down as the supply will continue to increase, but the demand will decrease (for instance, “Abyss Dye” will eventually get lower and lower in price as less and less people want it, but the supply will continue to increase).

That being said, you want to expedite the price drops of items, and I don’t see how this would help the economy in any way. I fail to see how this would help the economy of the game, it would actually expedite the fallout of the economy.

They could make something like a guild buff (in economy for instance) that lasts for 3 days that reduces the cost of travel by 50%.

They could also make a monthly free travel pass that’s sold on the Gem Store. It lasts for 30 days from first use, gives you a 30 day buff account wide that allows you travel for free, but only to waypoints you have already unlocked. Too much potential for issues if a level 1 could port to Orr without making the trek out there, hehe.

There’s another MMO that I play that implemented a pretty cool idea, that I think could work here as well. It was called “Dev’s time for a day” or something along those lines. Basically, one of the forum moderator’s gather’s up ideas that will take a dev less than an hour or so to implement, and let’s everyone vote on the ideas to what is the most important. The list is then compiled, and presented to the dev team, and the dev team picks 10 or so items from the list every month, and spends a day implementing the changes.

Ideas could include things like adding a new item to the Gem Store, making a “Are you sure?” option on “exit to the desktop” or kicking someone from the guild, etc. All things that would take very little time to implement, but features that a lot of people would love to see.

increase bank stack limit

in Suggestions

Posted by: Retrospek.4583

Retrospek.4583

Actually, in today’s SQL databases (which I’m sure they are using), increasing it from “tinyint type” to say even “smallint” (which would then allow up to 32,767 stack size) isn’t a big deal at all.

You can change the data type pretty easily, as this field would not be a primary (or even indexed) field, and you’re increasing the size, not reducing the size.

Normally, you’d be correct that changing the field type can pose problems, but this isn’t a relational field, this is just a numeric value that contains the stack size, and would be very easy to increase the size limit on it. Even if they had to run a few scripts on the backend of the database to perform the task, it wouldn’t really be that much work to increase this limit.

Honestly, I think the limit is there so that people can’t hoard tons of resources, and although I would like to see it increased to something like 1,024 stack size, I doubt they will anytime soon, as any extra can be stored in the regular bank (which is where they make money from gem buyers).

Move Dungeon out of LA to stop Overflow!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Retrospek.4583

Retrospek.4583

I agree, the overflow even causes an issue when joining parties for doing dungeons. It seems the overflow is coded as being an instance itself, and won’t let people in the overflow enter Fractals of the Mist who aren’t in the overflow, and vice versa. It’s really annoying, and like the OP pointed out, moving the dungeon elsewhere would certainly reduce (if not eliminate) the overflow queue.

Jumping Puzzles

Retrospek.4583

There are MANY aspects of this game. Some involve jumping, some involve PvE, some involve PvP, etc. etc. Not everyone is good at all aspects. That being the case, if you’re not good at jumping puzzles (which is understandable) there are many other aspects of the game you could be good at.

To be “fair” would mean that if I’m no good at PvP, we should remove that from the Achievements, or make an alternative way to obtain them?

Sorry, I don’t plan on getting 100% of the achievements, and I accept the fact that I can still enjoy the game, without excelling at all aspects of the game. There will be many achievements I won’t get in the game, I’ll focus on the ones I do enjoy and can obtain.

In short, it’s a much more enjoyable game if you focus on the aspects you enjoy, rather than worrying about getting 100% completion on aspects you don’t enjoy.

Dungeon Of The Day

in Suggestions

Posted by: Retrospek.4583

Retrospek.4583

Since having only 1 dungeon of the day could indeed cause a “zerg” of that dungeon, the easiest way around this idea:

1) Each day there is a random “pool of dungeons” selected (could be done as a percentage so as new dungeons are added all the time, the pool increases as well).

2) Once the pool is established, every individual account is assigned a random dungeon for that day from the pool.

So as an example, we’ll say currently there are 10 dungeons, and the pool size each day is 30%. That means that 3 dungeons are chosen for the pool. Person A gets Dungeon 1, Person B gets Dungeon 2, and Person 3 gets Dungeon 3, and continue the rotation on from there. This would still provide more people doing a smaller number of dungeons, but not impact 1 single dungeon all day long.

Either way it could be implemented, would definitely be a benefit as a whole. +1 for the idea.

/follow isn’t the same as botting. It’s apparent that not having this feature for bots didn’t deter them from running in clusters.

However, it does make it so people who play the game as intended can follow their friends around more easily. There’s already a ton of games that offer this feature (even one that is quite horrible with many common features lacking that has this feature built in).

I for one, would like to see this added as well. +1

There were no login messages that maintenance was coming up. And even going thru the “official” forums here in tech support, it seems others found out about the downtime from Twitter.

Retrospek.4583

I wouldn’t recommend any of them simply because they’re A/ HP and those suck and B/ have AMD cpus which aren’t supported that well by games. You’ll be selling yourself short.

I’m not sure where you get your information about AMD processor’s, but you couldn’t be further from the truth. AMD CPU’s are usually better than Intel CPU’s (although it does vary from model to model) when it comes to gaming. Intel CPU’s are usually better (again, it varies depending on model) at things such as CAD and Photoshop work. Again, it varies from models, but this is a general guideline.

The problem isn’t that the machine has an AMD, the problem is most laptops do not have true video cards, have scaled back CPU’s (for cooler and less power consumption) and slower hard drives (again, less power and cooler). A desktop for the same money will generally give you a HUGE increase in hardware.

For the $500 mark, if you don’t build your PC, you’re mostly going to end up with a prefab machine that will have a shared video card, a slower processor, and/or a slower (5400 RPM) HDD. All of these things will limit your animation speeds, not only with this game, but any game. Fact is, most prefab machines are not true gaming machines.

If you go to Google and type in “my ip address” it will tell you the IP address that is used over the internet (the IP address that GW2 uses). Check this IP address. If it changes often, then that means that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) has the lease time for IP addresses set WAY too low. I had an ISP once before that my IP address would change almost every hour, and made it impossible to play MMO’s. It wasn’t long before I dumped them, and got a better service provider.
