My big problem is that the game doesn’t seem to count toward anything. Is this a bug, or is it supposed to be that way?

Clocktower Way To Fast

in Halloween Event

RileyTheRad.8542

Just because something is possible doesn’t make it plausible. This jumping puzzle is ridiculously hard. The people getting through are people who are highly above average players. If the average player tried for 5+ hours with nowhere near success, to me that says something is wrong. People keep saying that practice will make it possible, but there are only so many hours in a day.

Hours and hours, and I haven’t gotten far enough to even see it in the distance. But I’ve heard it’s really tricky. Considering how difficult it looks to get to that part, it seems a little cruel to have something that nasty at the end.

Having a more articulated rarity statement would be a good move, but I dunno… Having a skin of some sort in EVERY chest I think would be a bad idea. They’d be everywhere, and I think it would take a lot of the “specialness” of the skins out of it.

You could donate them to a character by the name of Siegg! O w O

But in all seriousness, I would wait until the end of the event. We’ve only seen the first portion of the event with three yet to come, there may end up being an event that you’ll want them for. If nothing else though, selling is always an option.

You can actually do it on another character, then hop to the one you destroyed it on once you see the mail appear. It binds on acquisition, meaning that whichever character opens it gets it soulbound to them.

Mad moon shield

RileyTheRad.8542

You can still craft one, some players might tell you that it requires ridiculous amount of time and grind to do so, but that’s just their opinion. Total price of crafting the permament version of this wonderfull shield is approximately 150g

That is an egregious amount of gold… o___o;
Then again, it’s just cosmetic, so it’s no biggie. I just have no idea how people have managed to save so much gold! I was really wanting The Crossing (that cool staff with the mini lantern hanging from it), but I don’t see it happening.

You don’t need the all the money (don’t even need money) you need to get all the mats that are halloween exclusive and the rest you can farm after halloween is over and craft it later. That is what I’m doing.

That’s probably what I’ll end up doing. It seems like grinding for the mats will be quicker than grinding for the gold.

The Price for Candy Corn

in Halloween Event

Posted by: RileyTheRad.8542

RileyTheRad.8542

From what I understand, the candy corns are used to complete the monthly achievement, to trade in for trick-or-treat bags and to craft Halloween items. They’re far from useless, I think the price just dropped because you need so many of them. Farming them in WvW is really easy and fun though.

It’s a back-slot item. It basically makes it look like you have a cool, creepy old book tied to your back, it’s really nifty.

The stats are actually really low on it, but the flavor text states that it feels “incomplete.” I’m guessing with each stage of the event we’ll have a few more steps to the process which will upgrade the stats from there.

I have decided to add a seventh question:

7. Have you bought any of the direct purchase, set priced Halloween items? If so, will you be buying more?
I have not, though again, if I had money right now to throw at GW2 I would more than happily get the Mad King outfit, and a set of bunny ears. xP I think they’re awesome, and if it weren’t for me being broke, I’d snag them in a heartbeat. Great designs.

1. Will you or will you not be buying black lion trading company or random number generation materials again?
No.

2. Did you buy them in the past?
No.

3. If you would not buy trading post material/gamble, would you support direct to buy weapon skins and what general price do you find acceptable from a business standpoint both as a customer and realizing that they must make money as a business?
If you mean buying the skins with gems, I would consider it. Not right now because I’m broke, but later on I probably would. Not to any real extreme, but if there’s, say, a single armor piece that just looks awesome, I’d probably buy it.

4. Do you believe that future events will also be handled with random number generation to make profit based on limited time item acquisition?
Probably, I don’t see why not. The items that you can get are trade-able, so I really don’t see why people are complaining. If there’s one you want, just buy it from the Trading Post. It might be expensive, but it’s cosmetic. People keep complaining about a lack of end-game content, but the second they’re expected to work toward something, they flip out.

5. If you believe that the future events will be handled in the same manner, does this realization negatively effect your trust of Arena Net in regard to handling micro transactions for permanent content?
Not in the slightest. People forget that companies that make video games are BUSINESSES (organizations that run on profit through a product of some sort). For any other game of this caliber, you’d be paying a monthly fee. In GW2, anything purchasable through the cash shop is either cosmetic or has very little impact on gameplay. Not only that, you can buy gems with gold. I have no idea where the whining is coming from.
On the other hand, a static price for gems would probably work a bit better than the current system, since gem prices are currently through the roof. But it’s far from a big complaint of mine.

6. Did you obtain a skin or whatever it is you were looking to get from the black lion trading chests? From the Mad King Chests?
Yep! Well, sort of. I had two keys I had saved up, which didn’t yield anything super amazing. My wife used the one key she had to find a set of the Light armor shoulders. She didn’t think they fit the personality of her only Light armor toon, so she gave them to me to put on my Necro.

@Shy: There’s a chance of a yellow drop from both bosses and boss chests. If you have a guildmate that has the Cooking profession, they can make food that gives boosts to your Magic Find. There’s also boosters from Black Lion chests if you’ve gotten lucky with key drops. Guilds can also provide temporary Magic Find buffs with the reputation points. It makes a world of difference.

@Jack: The wife and I only run dungeons for 2-3 hours with the guild on the nights we can all get together to do them, and we still manage. What are the problems you’re hitting specifically?

RileyTheRad.8542

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the token boost! : D
This will make the armor grind a ton more bearable, while still having a good level of effort required. I think my guild is planning to possibly start working on Sorrow’s Embrace tokens soon, the armor is awesome (especially the light armor shoulder pads, my favorite piece of armor in the game thus far!).

@Mintyfresh: They are definitely challenging and require a high level of coordination, particularly AC and CoE in my opinion (those Inquest Insurgents are cruel!). They are definitely doable though, you just have to learn the proper strategies. If you played GW1, there were many, many missions that were just as difficult, if not moreso. It’s just ANet’s way of crafting games, they’re no walk in the park. We don’t have a single Guardian in our regular group though, and we get through just fine.

Our typical lineup:
Human semi-defensive Warrior
Human AOE Elementalist
Sylvari support Elementalist
Asura support/conditioneer Engineer
Asura “Minion Bomber” Necromancer (me)

well of darkness is worst skill?

in Suggestions

Posted by: RileyTheRad.8542

RileyTheRad.8542

I actually think Well of Darkness is a fantastic skill. Like Fellwitch said, when I ran my Wells build I had a trait that would Chill a foe whenever I would blind them, so it was a fantastic way to mitigate damage and keep enemies away from my group and I.

I think the problem is that you’re thinking in a one-lane mindset that Necromancer does minions, and nothing else. My favorite build is my minion build, but there are many other great, viable (possibly more viable) builds out there for people who don’t enjoy the minions.

I also have to add my two cents to the elephant in the room: Please stop making so many threads. If you have this many concerns, combine them into one list to update on the first post of one thread, not a hundred threads for a hundred problems. Clutter ruins the point of a forum, and just makes it look unorganized and unhelpful.

Crafting is not worth the investment.

in Crafting

Posted by: RileyTheRad.8542

RileyTheRad.8542

I’m planning on having my first set of exotics be crafted by my own Tailoring (hit 400 a couple days ago), and currently working on getting all of the necessary mats.

For me, it’s rewarding. I know that’s completely subjective and it probably doesn’t mean anything to some people, but as an RP’er and something of an immersion player, I end up treasuring my gear that much more than if I just bought them off the TP. It’s also why I like that Legendary weapons take so long to craft and can’t be traded. If you see someone walking around with a legendary weapon on their back, that means they earned every pixel of it.

I do think that some things in GW2 tend to be a little bit on the excessive side with grinding, but that’s how it was in GW1. I know that it’s not much of a justification, but to me that means that the grind probably won’t change much. The good thing about it is that all of the things that require immense levels of grinding are merely cosmetic, meaning that people who don’t feel like going through all of the trouble of getting those items themselves don’t have to worry about it. Don’t like that that guy over there has a cooler looking greatsword than you? Well, that guy over there put in the time for it. He earned it, and so can you if you want it that badly.

LFG Crucible of Eternity is difficult

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: RileyTheRad.8542

RileyTheRad.8542

It was honestly my least favorite Story Mode, I probably won’t be going back super soon.

I will say though that if you’re having this problem, it would probably be best to try to find yourself a guild. LFG never seems to yield the best results (either you can’t find a group, or the group you find doesn’t communicate well).

I’m in an RP guild, and we have a small core group that runs dungeons almost every night if we can. It’s a blast, and being able to voice chat helps a lot. You can try to set up a voice chat channel for random groups, but… chances are, it will take forever to actually get started and half the people probably won’t have headsets.

Overall, I’d say a guild is your best shot. If you’re already in one, try to find a side guild that runs them.
