It really depends.
Are you wanting to do speed runs, or casual fun runs with friends?
For speed runs I would recommend Warrior, just because you can deal faceroll damage with little to no effort. Greatsword and go.
If you’re just playing for fun with friends though, anything is fine. I main Necro, my wife mains Engi. Running dungeons with our buddies online is a fun way to wind down, talk crap on Mumble with each other, and have a good time. We almost never wipe, though because we just play for fun, we don’t usually finish in any kind of record time. We take breaks to grab a beer, brew some coffee, grab a snack, etc. while the rest sit around and have a good time.
Wow, I got off on a tangent there. Anyway, what I meant to say is that if you’re playing for fun with friends, don’t worry about re-rolling. Play what you want and have a blast!
We’re in the middle of a very tough match-up this week with Tarnished Coast and Fort Aspenwood. TC has been facerolling us for the past 7 days, and if we hadn’t camped the puzzle, a lot of people wouldn’t have been able to do it.
I find this amusing as the biggest group I saw trolling and griefing the puzzle was from Kaineng. They didn’t stop until FA rolled though and killed them all. If you want to know why Kaineng was being killed a lot in Sanctum, that is why.
Thankfully the folks from Fort Aspenwood were kind enough to not kill everyone passing by and helped me to get it, despite being a TCer. My thanks to them.
This, every time I tried the puzzle, Kaineng would fear me off cliffs, chill me as I went for long jumps, and camp in places where they could rain death on me with very little I could do back (particularly a couple of 1500 range engies).
It was completely obnoxious. Hopefully I can get it soon without being griefed, but my hopes aren’t super high, lol.
TC is obviously way stronger than Maguuma and SoS, and the score shows. What is especially frustrating about playing against TC is that they just have more players. So even if we hold TC to a stalemate on Eternal Battlegrounds, TC just conquers their borderlands unopposed while holding a significant fraction of Maguuma BL and SoS BL, and they just win. SoS rarely if ever has players on TC BL for example. I remember one very frustrating time a few weeks ago when TC had enough players to take Stonemist Castle AND assault Ogrewatch simultaneously – and SoS weren’t outmanned.
However complaining isn’t really justified because numbers aren’t everything. TC players are just better than SoS players, and TC commanders just better than SoS commanders.
We do have some great commanders on TC, I think the numbers do play a large factor though. TC is in a unique position in that we have a dual community; strong WvW support as well as a large mass of RPers. I know RPers may not necessarily be top quality WvWers in all instances, but where in times when the WvW community falls short with numbers we always have more bodies to throw into the zerg.
If that makes any sense at all xD;; I do WvW fairly often, but I do belong probably more to the second community than the first.
Time to own all the RPers!
How’s that working out for you? ;P
Why do you even care?
Apart from the somewhat cool female heavy, it´s an amalgamation of the usual skirt and trench-coat motifs with increasingly more ridiculous cogs bolted on to the stupidest and outright deadliest(for the wearer) places.
Personal taste?
You not liking something does not equal everyone not liking something.
I think it would be really cool if it became a normal dungeon like the rest. We have the steampunk armor for tokens and several of the weapon skins… It would still be a ton of work though to create the three explorable paths and the other weapon skins, so I dunno. I know a ton of people would love to see it!
This dungeons is not based on how intelligent you are – i guess by now all player know what they need to do in there, but it is based on dexterity. The older player you are the less chances you have to do it unless you programmed your moves as a zombie robot
Guess we should hope to have a Necromancer in the party! xP
I will say the rewards seemed a tiny bit on the flimsy side, but the guaranteed gold at the end was nice. Does DR exist for that? I only just had the chance to run it for the first time last night, I would repeat it for more gold :P
As for the monocle, eh… It’s personal taste. I know a few people who went crazy over it xP Although for myself, I think it would have been cool to have some sort of steampunk tophat with gears and shizz on it. That would have been awesome!
Ran it for the first time last night and had a blast! We had two people in the group that had run it before and helped explain the tricks beforehand, and we made it through without a wipe.
It seems like heavy party support is the way to go here. If you have any party rezzing skills, take them with, they’re a life saver. Bunker builds seem to work better as well, the flimsier builds appear to get one/two shotted really easily.
I’m really not upset with the developers for this decision, it’s more disappointment in the amount of griefing I’ve seen and heard about. I overestimated the community and thought we were better than that. =/
Better than what? PvPing inn a PvP zone?
Better than finding cheap areas to stand where they can kill players/chill them at opportune moments to make them fall, with no actual benefit others than stroking their egos. If they were in locations where I could fight them fairly, I wouldn’t have an issue. I play sPVP all the time, I don’t dislike PVP. I dislike cheap, meaningless kills for the sole purpose of ruining an experience for other players, then /laughing and /dancing on their bodies. The entire purpose behind that kind of behavior is to be obnoxious to other players, NOT grabbing loot bags, NOT competing for the achievement, and NOT for blueprints/whathaveyou. If you think otherwise, you are deluded.
But I guess I expected too much.

That is fine, but what your post is going to translate to with most people with this mindset is:
“There are a lot of people in this game that are better at it than you are. A lot better. Stop trying, you can’t measure up to their standards no matter how much effort you put in. You won’t succeed. New content is above you. Have a nice day.”
I agree with your sentiment but the way you’ve worded your post isn’t going to elicit a terribly positive response from your target audience. Of course we can choose not to do the new content, but isn’t the point of new content to do the new content? There are legitimate reasons to be frustrated.
I can see the boots being justifiable, these aren’t the first sets of boots that hide the asura claws. They’re relatively small and I’m guessing can comfortably face forward.
The ears though… Idk, haha xD Both of my asura have massive ears. That just seems painful!
Crazy thought here, but:
yes! this is exactly the case!
those bears sure are very self centered!
If anyone is self-centered in this scenario, it’s the obnoxious griefers there for the sole purpose of making other players have a miserable time and fail at an achievement. I get fighting other players to the top, which I think was ANet’s intent. Both sides are working toward something in that scenario, being the achievement. But the players camping in hoards are getting nothing out of griefing and trolling people other than a crude and poorly earned tally on their ego meter. I truly feel sorry for those so sorely in need of self-justification that they feel they must resort to being crappy to others.
I haven’t had a chance to try this yet, but due to my whacked out sleeping schedule I’ll probably be okay with getting in at odd hours when not too many people are around.
Is it in Eternal Battlegrounds, or something?
Refusing to retrait/swap weapons/use different armour for a dungeon is like saying “I need to get from Los Angeles to London, but I refuse to buy a plane ticket. Why won’t you let me use my horse to get there?”
You were given 5 trait lines and 70 points to spend anywhere you like for a reason. You were given at least half a dozen weapons which you can swap around before going into the fight for a reason. You can swap out your skills anytime before engaging in combat for a reason.
If you are dying over and over again and the team wipes trying to res you, the problem is not the dungeon. The problem is you.
No, no it is not like that.
It’s like wanting to fly from New York the LA, but getting told that you can only use one air line and can only fly coach to get there. It’s an arbitrary and hidden limit that forces players to have a set of armor for every trait combination in order to enjoy the game to it’s fullest.
It’s one build that’s limited: Full zerker. Not every build but full bunker builds. This is one single temporary dungeon where one build doesn’t work as well. It sounds more like you’re upset because that one build happens to be yours.
With all the good content that Guild Wars 2 has brought out, you would think a LFG tool would have been something they could have put in.
You can always try this: http://gw2lfg.com/
Yes, tabbing in and out of the game to check for forum posts… because this is 1980?
Just install a freaking LFG tool like a real game. Time to put on your big-boy pants Guild Wars.
I don’t think online games existed in 1980, much less alt tabbing…
Time to put on your big boy pants and deal with a very minor inconvenience?
I agree, it’s been fun! They give it a lot of variety, and I think one thing that works well for them is the time frame of the game. Tyria is in that awkward stage between sword-and-wand fantasy and the emerging steam and black powder technological period. The game offers the feel of both at the same time it seems, which is something I absolutely love.
I did it on my 30 Ranger, it wasn’t too bad. I did get scaled up, though the fight with the boss was a bit tough. I wasn’t paying attention and died, ran back and kicked his tail~ xP
Well, it was honestly really obvious that she was guilty with the first Tassi Box instance… I was hoping that there would be some twist that she wasn’t guilty but had info or something, but eh.
No biggs.
Same here, I was a bit upset when I saw that. I wasn’t even on the FB page, it was a massive pic on my feed while just scrolling down.
Please don’t do this anymore, it’s no fun when the story is spoiled
It would be silly if the sender is Demmi Beetlestone, because depending on your personal story, you do know each other quite well.
True, but that’s why it would say “you may know me” instead of “you know me.” Since the player may or may not know her, depending on personal story, it fits.
And her name has nothing to do with the initial E
If it did it would be a rather bad codename, wouldn’t it? ;P
I think it’s a solid enough theory, but eh. I honestly really did not care for her. She’s not a bad character or anything, just very… very annoying.
I could see Logan being it, but I dunno… That, “You MAY know me,” part doesn’t seem to fit. Isn’t he in every personal story? I’m trying to think back…
I think the drop rate for the regular coffers is fine, but I do think that the Rich Coffers could use a bit of a boost… From what I understand, the drop rate in them is pretty low. I know it may sound dramatic, but I think that something like a 10% drop rate would be fair. You would lose the massive amounts bought by the people here and there dropping a ton of money on them, but I think a lot of people who normally wouldn’t invest cash into something like this would be more inclined to buy them if they saw a significant raise in the cash shop drop rate.
And if people didn’t want to buy the Rich ones with real money, hey. That’s why you put the regular ones in. The drop rate would be way lower, but they’re easily farmable and basically free. It took me around 1000 regular coffers to get my weapon skin, but I guess that’s pretty lucky. My wife has two weapon tickets and two sets of holo wings so far and she’s probably only opened like… 250 regular coffers… >> Dat luck. xD;;
(edited by RileyTheRad.8542)
Characters die all the time in the story, but I guess I always saw the downed players and NPCs as being more knocked out than anything else.
On that note, I think a really funny April Fool’s joke the game could put in next year would be to change the revive animation from the player rubbing an arm or something to be the player repeatedly smacking the knocked out player across the face going, “WAKE UP WAKE UP” lol xD That would be pretty great
Yeah, the cutscene was fantastic, lol. Couldn’t stop laughing the whole time, it was so beautifully corny and enjoyable! xDD
I just hope the writers and designers for this aren’t looking through this thread like, “W-what? Corny..? No, it was… supposed to be serious… ; A ; guyswhyy”
Yeah, if nothing else, this event should have been the turning point for people buying heaps of the event RNG items from the TP since the regular coffers drop so often from mobs. I don’t think the drop rate for tickets from the Rich Coffers is that much higher than the regular ones, so I don’t see too much point in buying the cash shop ones to be honest. Unless you just want to support ANet, which is fine
That second set of pics looks spot on. Really cool too! : 3
Good job with the armor, it’s nifty.
Either way, I’m just glad I have off work on Tuesday! xD;
But yeah, I would assume it’s here until the end of the event on July 9th. To have it for just one time only would probably tick off a ton of people.
Grats, very nice! : D
I’ll be buying probably 500 or so when they drop to 2 silver on the TP, so I’m hoping for some good luck when I get them. I’ll try to farm some in the meantime to get around 1000, and I’ll probably post the results here then.
As for how to farm, the best method honestly just seems to go to an area with a lot of quickly-killable mobs and go to town for a while. Every mob seems to have the same drop rate for coffers, so that’s the best method I can think of.
Does Magic Find affect how often the coffers drop? Does anyone know? I may invest in a MF set or something if so.
You’ve clearly never known anyone who was afraid of a color have you?
I have not, and due to the fact that I’ve never even heard of the phobia makes me believe that it’s dramatically uncommon. Arachnophobia is a much more common (and probably more intense) phobia, and spiders are everywhere in the game. I just did some quick Googling (admittedly not the best research method, but hey) and all I can find is chromophobia, which seems to only result in mild discomfort when exposed to certain colors.
Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be a jerk or anything, I just really doubt that’s it. I honestly just think they picked a color.
I’ve bought around a thousand and still nothing. No biggie though, if I get one, I get one. Either way I’m getting some amazing food buffs.
Of course, my wife meanwhile has bought zero (just opening the looted ones) and already has two weapon tickets… Lol. She also looted a set of holo wings.
Go figure. xP
If I see the same person AFK for two full matches, I’ve been reporting them using the botting tag.
I really wish we had a way to report afkers specifically.
What if the person in question was actually AFK and had no time to leave Dragon Ball because of something urgent? It happened to me a few days ago and ended up being AFK through a few matches.
People who do absolutely nothing in Dragon Ball, and thus being AFK, should be kicked to either Lion’s Arch or to the character selection screen after 30 seconds – 1 minute in my opinion.
All it takes to log out is to hit the Esc key and click Exit Game. Two things. Unless someone’s choking to death, I don’t see why it’s asking a lot of someone to have them click something twice.
Now this is going to be really awkward if ALL of these AFKers actually are saving choking people… Lol. What are the odds?
You must shave to appease the draconic overlords.
Holograms are blue because blue is a calming color. Just imagine if someone was running through your local mall or public space with holographic dragon wings flapping on their back. Since we still don’t have viable holographic technology, it would be a surprise to people, maybe scare some people who are a little bit more anxious.
If think if anyone is anxious enough to be scared by red holograms in a video game, they’re probably not in a mental state to be playing video games…
And if I saw people running through a shopping mall with holographic wings, I think I’d have different reactions than:
“WINGS WTF—Oh, they’re blue, it’s cool.”
or
“OH GOD THEYRE RED HIDE IN THE TRASH CANS”
i always Play GW2 together with my wife, so our meps or the chance to drop something should be similar, just wondering if anyone else had the luck to drop those 100k holo wings from a mob?
so far i got around 7 knight minis, no tickets, my wife on the other hand has around 12 minis, 3 (!) tickets AND 2 holo wings from mobs
. I mean, is she really THAT lucky or did they change something? before it happened I had no clue that mobs can drop them.
Your wife played with u…? Thats awesome man. I wish my wife would play with me in this game.
Mine plays with me too xP
…And about as lucky. No major drops for me, but she’s already rockin’ a Ticket and a set of Wings… >> Lol
I’m waiting for the TP price of the coffers to drop a bit more before going nuts buying them, just because I don’t have too much gold to go nuts with xD;
Until then I’ll just keep opening the ones I get from mob drops and hope to get lucky.
I have no idea what you’re trying to say.
Yeah, the scaling is really weird for this event, if present at all.
The good thing is that the hologram mobs in the higher level zones are not only a bit harder to kill, but these zones are completely empty.
And the person who opened 1000 and got nothing cares to disagree.
And that person still has a month to go.
But the sad part is not that they make you pay for certain items, but make you gamble for it.
They don’t “make” you do a thing. Every skin is available without paying a dime. The drop rate is lower for the regular coffers, but not by any dramatic percentage by what I’ve seen. If over the course of a month from regular play, with coffers dropping from every mob in the game and the TP price of the coffers steadily dropping, you have yet to get a ticket, that’s the point where I would say that you are incredibly unlucky.
Yeh I cant wait to be grinding this for a full month and possibly still get nothing
2000 down, another 28,000 to go right?
I very seriously doubt that if you open 30,000 coffers that you won’t get a single ticket.
And the person who opened 1000 and got nothing cares to disagree.
And that person still has a month to go.

It’s been a day and a half.
I do agree that the cash shop coffers should have a higher percentage though. Like I said, with the regular coffer drop rate looking to be as similar as it is to the cash shop coffers, I don’t see why people would spend money on the cash shop ones if knowing that.
(edited by RileyTheRad.8542)
So I started doing the achievements, ‘cause wings are cool, and they are pretty torturous, so I took a break and went hologram farming, and after 5-10 hours of it, I’m done.
So after 5-10 hours of playing content meant to last a month, you’re throwing in the towel? Okay, continue.
..and now we have dragon weapons and I have seen 1 or 2 people with a greatsword, but again, considering the hours and hours they wasted designing them..
WHAT’S THE POINT?!?
…That they’re cool looking skins? That’s always been the point of event skins, and these ones are much more easy to obtain than previous skins to due dropping from regular coffers as opposed to the cash shop only coffers. The coffers are very easy to grind and inexpensive to purchase en masse on the TP.
Stupid event (did we kill a dragon? I don’t remember killing a dragon… what the heck is going on?)
We killed Zhaitan… You know, the giant main bad guy of the game at launch?
If you’re talking about the purpose behind the celebration, there’s an achievement to speak with the eight pirate councilmen of Lion’s Arch. Each of them explains the entire event to you. It’s been spelled out for every player about as plainly as possible, lol. Were you expecting to kill an Elder Dragon in a regular holiday event? o_O;
Stupid korean style grind. 100,000 candies for a pair of wings? Stuff like this is why they disabled swearing on the forums…
Or you could just buy one off the TP for very few gold compared to most event skins. Or wait for the candy to drop to a few copper (which it will) and buy the amount you need. And that’s for the holo wings, you get a set of the other wings just for completing ten of the event achievements.
Hundreds of wasted hours designing content no one will ever see outside Dulfy.net
Everyone who logs in will see the content. It’s kinda everywhere.
(edited by RileyTheRad.8542)
Well, I can understand people’s frustrations but my girlfriend collected like 86 coffers and she opened a total of 6 – sold the rest. On opening the fourth chest she received a ticket. I assume this is ridiculous luck?
Significant others, man!
My wife got one after 16 regular coffers xD
Yeah, the AFKers can get annoying.
What I’ve been doing is just hopping out of matches when I see that, rejoining doesn’t take too long to find a decent group from my experience
Same here, putting in the coffers with the % of dropping the skins and whatnot was an amazing idea : D
correct me if i’m wrong but the general mood of most players is that all the “new” content given so far by Anet/Guildwars has been exactly the same with a slightly different skin and minor variations on what you have to do.
Most players on the forums, perhaps. The thing about game forums like this is that people generally log on when something is wrong, rather than with something is right. Everyone that I normally play with and myself have been having a blast with everything in this event. Dragonball’s a bit glitchy, but that’s about it that I’ve seen.
CONS:-
Rich Dragon Coffer, if i’m spending real money or even gold that has taken me a long time to accumulate I don’t want an increased chance to optain my ticket, I want my item.Chance to optain is blind luck and results in the lucky and rich being the only to obtain these unique weapon skins which from my point of view sadly stinks.
You knew that going into it, ANet never tried to lie or make people believe that the coffers were anything but RNG. I agree that the % should be significantly higher for the cash shop coffers now that we have the alternative regular coffers, but none of that will probably change until people stop supporting the low % RNG methods with hundreds on hundreds of dollars. This event was a real opportunity for people to make their statements known and hold their position by not buying the cash shop coffers, since the drop rate in the regular ones is so close to the rate of the cash shop coffers.
(edited by RileyTheRad.8542)
Oh wow, hadn’t seen that one yet. Awesome! xD
Probably just a decoration though
Moa money. Moa problems.
LOL
You have no idea how hard that made me laugh xD
I got pretty lucky and steered clear of Meep the Dreadful. I ended up making about a 2.5 gold profit and got the achievement
Or you know, they just can make them instanced for every player.
Do not blame the players for their playstyle (as annoying as it is for you), blame the game mechanics. The game mechanics are what they are, but there’s no reason to screw over other players when it takes a few seconds longer not to.
Oh really? Well today I was good enough to wait for 2 other palyers in a low level map (I was first tot he holoprojector). When we activated the holoprojector, the warrior rushed through the mobs and killed them instantly.
Again, why should I follow your miniguide?
Drop a tagskill beforehand.
What I do is if I see someone else, I’ll drop Radiation Field below where they spawn. This does enough damage to tag all the mobs but will not kill any mob by itself (even for the full duration). This ensures that other players get an opportunity to tag mobs at their own pace, especially at low levels (since it applies poison and weakness to help them survive).
This is what I’ve been doing while running around the low level areas. I’m a Necro with the Greater Marks trait, so I just drop a Mark of Blood on it when it pops and that’s more than big enough to tag all of the mobs. After the Mark triggers, I let everyone else present have their go at them.
Honestly though, I found that while leveling one of my alts in Fireheart Rise that I didn’t even have to rush to the hologram nodes. No one was farming there. Dunno if that’s because it’s a higher level zone or what, but hey, I wasn’t complaining :P
I think most of the issues people have are due to farming the starting zones. Anything below 40 is probably swamped.
