Guild enhancements to help admins

Trying to organise a Fractals guild in order to make up for the games lack of a proper LFG UI has been a nightmare due to the limitations of the guild system. A couple of minor changes would make a world of difference.

1) /guildjoin command

If a guild is flagged as public, users should be able to type /guildjoin <name> and get in to the entry rank. Needing to invite each individual who wants in takes up so much of my playtime.

2) Increase the maximum number of ranks to 100. Currently it is ten, meaning that we’ve needed to split the guild in to 4 in order to account for 1 rank per level of Fractals. Why 10? Why so low? If a limit needs to be set, it should be set higher rather than lower.

3) Allow parallel ranks, as in allow people within a range of ranks to move themselves both up and down as they choose. Currently a person can only demote themselves- what reason is there for this restriction? The ranking system could be so much more useful if you just allowed it to be. If the guild admin doesn’t want this to occur then they can just not enable it.

4) Allow guild leaders/highest rank to send a mail to the entire guild/entire ranks

In order to inform everyone of some changes I had to send a mail to over 100 members, 2 at a time. This took me a needless amount of time. If you join a guild you open yourself up to messages from leaders- a function to send a mail to all members, or all members of a specific rank is a basic nessesity that is sorely lacking.

5) Allow members to see guild chat even when not representing if they choose to

Make it work like a chat channel. Instead of typing /guild, the user would type /1,/2,/3 etc. This would make nonrepped guilds actually useful, whereas currently any guild that isn’t your main simply has unrep creep where more and more members unrep and therefore mayaswell not be in the guild to begin with.

6) Increase the maximum number of guilds to 20

Why 5? It’s the same problem with the maximum number of ranks. There is no need for this ridiculously low restriction. I’m forced, due to your other limitations, to choose between a friends guild, exgame guild, current guild, and the 3 tiers of guilds for the new Fractal dungeon. Now that I’m forced not to be in T2 of the Fractal guild administrating has become much harder as I need to forward people on to another leader as your system doesn’t allow any way to get someone in to a guild without you being repped to it.

Please respect that we’re running this guild in our spare time for no actual benefit. Invite requests here, or in forum pms, are unlikely to be acted on. Please send whispers ingame to those listed, if whispers are not answered then send mail.

The current guild system has hardly any user friendlyness to open guilds, everything needs to be done manually and several restrictions confound the process (limited rank options, no autojoin, no invitation links, no guild search feature for applicants).

I’m up to lvl 20 and I’ve only gotten 3 Vials, meaning I’m unable to make my infused back even if I wanted to pay 66g for the blood, and 72g for the ectos to make it.

The whole RNG system is sadistic, and an artificial barrier to content being cleared. If you’re going to make gearchecks they should be based upon progression- not dice rolls.

Agony past lvl 20 is horrible design

Most of the bosses don’t properly telegraph their agony moves. I’m fine with difficulty, even AE 1 shots. But players need at least the chance to LoS or dodge the moves.

Currently agony is cheap. It’s artificial difficulty, and it needs to be fixed.

Agony currently applies before the half second animations even finish. Give people 1.5 seconds to react and make sure agony isn’t applying before the animations finish.

MF is a joke and the arguements for it are a joke.

“Skilled players are what really count.”

A skilled player in good gear is better than a skilled player in MF gear. A bad player in good gear is better than a bad player in MF gear. Yet the cost of MF gear is borne by all group members while benefiting only the individual being selfish.

What kind of mentality is that supposed to foster?

I’m amazed at the poor insight of the QA team, MF should have never made it in to the live game.

Many view achievements as unnecessary- and even a waste of time. I’ve never seen them that way. To me achievements are an easy way to give people direction and foster a sense of exploration.

Yes- some will mindlessly grind griffons for 54 hours straight and hate it- but don’t blame achievements for such destructive behavior. Instead think of well designed achievements, that encourage constructive community behavior, that modify current content by providing new challenges that can revitalize stale content and may well show people that things do not need to be done the same way they’ve always been done.

Below I’ve included changes that expand and enhance the current achievement system in the hopes these changes would extend the relevance of individual achievements and modify player behavior in a positive direction- towards exploration and challenge.

Magic Find is bad for the game

I have a set of MF gear. It is weaker than my other exotic gear set because it’s major stat is almost always MF.

When using a MF set that player is less useful to the rest of the team, they either lack damage, survivability or support. This can be made up with skill, but that same player with better gear would be more of a help than when wearing MF gear.

As such each individual within a group needs to sacrifice personal benefit in order to help their team succeed.

This is hardly the correct way the game should reward players- to punish those who help teammates and reward selfishness.

But by allowing MF in dungeons, and adding content specifically tailored to people wearing MF in dungeons, you’re sending the wrong message to players and cultivating the wrong type of attitude.

Removing MFs effects within dungeons would encourage team play and supportive playstyles. It should be done immediately and efforts undertaken never to encourage the use of substandard gear in future.

Roy: If you created the instance and switch characters the instance is deleted and all players currently in the instance are kicked. The post you cited is either incorrect or you interpreted it incorrectly.

Do not create an instance is you want to screw around with other characters in future.

Items that eliminate all waypoint costs across all characters.

Salvage kits with unlimited uses.

Endless Black Lion Merchant/ TP/ MF vendors.

Make them cost twice as much as the chance to get them from Mystic Chests- a large swath of people don’t like gambling and are willing to pay much more than the ridiculously high price now to guarantee getting something.

Right now the gem store does very little to alleviate inconvenience. There is a tonne more that can be added without giving an unfair advantage.

Shattered Achievement Unatainable

On any medium pop or higher server getting the stattered achievement in the boss section is nearly impossible.

I’ve done the shatterer 12 times now and haven’t been able to hit a single crystal prison before they are destroyed.

AE, melee swings, bouncing attacks- nothing works.

Boss achievements should be about doing the boss correctly, and should be attainable if you aim to achieve them. Currently the achievement is pure luck for those with 50 ping, and top end machines and impossible for everyone else.

The current text on Power Trader make it clear that normal accounts will be limited to having less than 4 listings per item, meaning a maximum of 1000 units for materials.

Open trade allows individual actors to create an equilibrium. Yes there are people who buy 500,000 copper and relist for a .5c profit- but these people are vulnerable in an open market. All it takes is one person to take an opposite position to make them lose money- not so in a closed market.

There will be no balancing if this goes through. Prices for materials will skyrocket and people trying to keep prices down will be unable to profit and so will do nothing to stop it.

If this goes live (with the implied restrictions to normal trading) it will cause the TP to inflate massively.

Currently high frequency traders and salvagers are the only thing keeping prices low. If each account can only list 4000 items then supply will disappear overnight.

I’m amazed that ANet would think that market restrictions are a good idea.

I’m sorry- I clearly have missed something.

You stated that jumping puzzles were the only thing added in the Halloween event. Yet now you seem to be saying that only 1 jumping puzzle event was added.

So essentially your argument is that the only things that should be added to the game are things you like.

I happen to not like pvp, and since I’m not a 2 year old I have no inclination to throw a tantrum and say that there shouldn’t be pvp events in the game just because I don’t like them… But let’s follow your argument through.

Since I like jumping puzzles but dislike everything else- and you like everything else but don’t like jumping puzzles- what content can the devs add in to the game? Since the only valid content is content everyone likes and can complete without really trying, no content is valid.

Now we don’t have a game at all. Just a white screen (because someone didn’t like black- too depressing). Seems everyone loses in that scenario.

Or is your argument that your preferences are better than everyone else’s to such a degree that anything that you don’t like is a waste of time? And anything that you can’t complete is impossible… or ‘unbalanced’- wonderful doublethink term we have there.

I like challenge and I like jumping puzzles. If ANet was devoting 99% of their resources to JPs then I’d be right there with you. At the moment you just sound like a whiner who refuses to share the sandpit with the other children cause “they’re not playing correctly, wah”.

But let’s not let the Clock Tower go to waste: combine it with already-in-place mechanics to create a fun passtime.

Have a weekly signup event, using the pvp tournament system, that everyone can sign up to for 5s.

Then run the clock tower instance at a set time. Once you fall you’re out. Keep running until only 1 person in left (time is irrelevant, all that matters is reaching the top).

Winner gets 50% of the sign up, or you can have a maximum amount of runs (10 runs for instance) and all those who make it split 50% of the total pot.
Great gold sink, great fun.

If you could sell them on the TP the system wouldn’t be so aggravating.

At least then the people who got it with 1 bag could sell it to the people who’ve opening thousands (like myself) and just want to buy the kitten thing.

Bind on Acquire and gambling only is a cruel and unnecessary system- market forces would still encourage people to gamble.

Thanks to everyone that took this in the spirit intended. I suppose there will always be some people who look at meaningless achievements with bitter jealousy- will never understand such an attitude.

If anyone out there has actually gotten the 10k achievement before me, using the method described, feel free to respond. Personally I’m happier with my method as it is a bit more involved- but first is first regardless of method and I’d be happy to amend my thread.

I really enjoyed getting there, and I did it in conjunction with some titles that I am majorly aiming for which only got done 85% of the way in- so not that much additional effort.

Most people have taken my post in the spirit it was written, as a shared celebration of a meaningless achievement.

I didn’t claim to cure cancer, but I did get 10k achievement points. Not claiming to be king of the world, but it’s not something most would dedicate such an effort to.

Not going to hide in the shadows just because spoilsports like yourself feel entitled to belittle people.

The only thing I can think that comes even remotely close to what Zenyatoo is going on about is Agent of Entropy, but to get that requires salvage kits and things to salvage, the first of which requires cash, the last of which requires going out and getting, therefore not standing in one place.

However, I am interested in how you got those points; I’m guessing dungeon farming, as your medals are the same as mine, and I don’t even have over 3000 points yet.

Yeah I salvaged 725800 items, the salvage kits alone costing over 154g. I made a real effort in the early days to max out every achievement I could. But it became clear fairly quickly that Entropy was by far the most accessible repeatable achievement.

I think I’m a bit antsy at the moment. Some idiot claiming something can be done in a few hours that took you several weeks shouldn’t annoy me as much as it currently does.

There are two ways- some groups stack on him and dps him down. That’s the unintended strat that will hopefully get patched out.

But doing him properly is also possible.

1 evade tank who has enough poison skills to keep it up 100%. The tank should circle strafe continuosly and dodge when he sees the 1 hand forward move that is a frontal cone AE.

4 people in the NE,NW,SE,SW corners. When crystals spawn kill them all in their quadrant and then dps boss.

This should mean that you get him down to 66% on the first wave then 33% on the second. The bosses health ‘saves’ at thirds meaning that no matter how many regen crystals he has his health will not raise once brought below these percentages.

He’ll be dead on the third wave, no need to stack glass cannon or to stand on top of each other. The 4 dps should dodge the 1 hand frontal ae as that is his major damage. The ranged orb should also be dodged as it stuns.

As has been said- Arah is the most enjoyable and most frustrating dungeon there is.

Took my group 5 hours to get through but I’m sure it will be less next time.

The trash requires strats and the boss fights are actually challenging (and in a fun way rather than just having huge health pools or mega attacks).

The problem is that there are just way too many packs. Difficulty is great, but doing the same strat on high hp trash over and over again is not fun. Once a group has been mastered you shouldn’t ever be fighting the same pack again.

Sorry was 5am yesterday when I posted this and I hadn’t slept (apparently my assumption that dungeons would take no more than 1.5 hours was proven incorrect).

Was actually the Mursaat wing and the last boss was the phased Asura. Beat them using 1 phased and 1 group AEing the adds.

Last night, having gone there specifically to get the achievement, I was preety livid. I suppose having run it I’ll be able to give some strats to the pug for my next run.

I do not need to apologize for doing things that benefit me personally. That doesn’t make me a monster. Your attempts to make out that I’m claiming to be a benefactor of all mankind are confusing, you’re making assumptions about what I should aim to be.

All I want to do is profit in a video game by providing goods at a lower price and paying people more than others are willing to. I’m not a charity worker in real life and I have no intention of being one in a virtual world.

Story:

The story really is horrible. It seems the people writing it put no effort in to making complex characters. Everyone is disposable and posturing.

Tybalt is the only character that I think anyone remembers fondly and it is largely because he doesn’t act like a cutout character. But even he is fairly bland in comparison to other media, it’s just a testament to how bad most characterisation is in GW2 that he is held up as the sole example of quality.

Guilds:

I disagree with you about guilds. I have a guild and I feel very connected to it. My problem is in the opposite direction- the additional guilds are so hard to actually coordinate that they may as well not exist.

Why allow additional guilds if you cannot actually communicate unless everyone represents that guild at the same time- somethinkittenossible without communication. Really everyone should have 1 major guild and then other guilds should be akin to chat channels. Instead we have a broken system that is no good to anyone.

For example, I started a Dungeon guild to coordinate cross-server dungeon runs as a bandade to the broken LFG system. But it doesn’t work, no one is representing- nor should they as they have their own guilds to chat to and work with. If 15 people from different guilds cannot form an effective subguild together then what is the point of additional guilds other then a poor quality additional friends list?

Simpler fix would be to delete all mails sent from a person reported 10 times unless that person is on friends list or guild.

I’d imagine that’d cut the spam actually seen by 90%.

It goes in to great detail explaining why what you said is false.

If you want to maintain your definitive claim then please explain how the reasons for removing the 250 limit I’ve provided are false or misleading.

You have this idea in your head that someone is screwing you over, but without explaining why and instead just claiming something without reason we cannot see who is wrong. Removing the 250 limit would in fact hurt traders by increasing liquidity (something I have gone in to great detail about)- please state why you hold the opposite opinion.

So now that we’re treating each other like human beings I want to address some limitations of your claims.

As to shortages, no there are no ‘shortages’ but shortages were never the issue. Goods are always available but what is important to most is price. That is what liquidity is concerned with, creating a market with the lowest possible sell price and the highest possible buy price. This creates equilibrium and a stable market based truly upon supply and demand, and does so by turning traders against one another until riskless profit reaches zero.

Equilibrium (temporary, not permanent) is beneficial for consumers and for producers as each is able to buy and sell goods at a reasonable price (as determined by the market). Lack of equilibrium means that it will be likely that the buy price will be so low that producers are unhappy with the price and (at the same time) the sell price will be so high that consumers will feel ripped off.

Either can (in a market not in equilibrium) simply utilise buy and sell orders themselves- but as has been demonstrated and stated again and again- most simply don’t want to deal with the uncertainty and concentration playing the market requires.

This is where traders come in. In exchange for profit traders buy and sell up large quantities and then place those on opposing orders undercutting sell orders or one-upping buy orders. Traders are combative by default and multiple traders will quickly bring a market to equilibrium, as which point no more profit can be made and traders leave- some with profit, some stuck in a holding position until the market turns over. Traders will revisit previous markets periodically keeping the market in equilibrium often permanently.

So is this ‘manipulation’? How are we defining our terms? To me manipulation is an effort to push a price out of equilibrium in order to profit upon the false expectations of other actors. This certainly happens in reality, to the benefit of a few and the great harm of many (who’ll often never actually realise it).

However GW2’s system simply cannot be manipulated, as manipulation requires imperfect information, supply constraints, differentiated products, monopoly or some combination thereof. The BLT is completely open and accessible. Prices are not fixed (other than vendor floors). No seller or buyer information is provided so coordination is hard (or impossible). Fees are excessive, but that’s another topic- and not really that much of an entry barrier. But overall there is really no method of attack on the system as there is no inbuilt market failure- other than the physical constraints such as the 250 cap.

By putting in the 250 cap you restrain traders from tearing each other apart for the benefit of everyone. Instead we have many high volume items that are still outside the 15% range, allowing those with massive amount of funds to cycle through continuously without having to face competition from other traders who want to be able to use their hands in the morning.

TLDR: Manipulation is impossible due to GW2 not suffering from market failures of the real world. Trader competition results in equilibrium which benefits all.

Think about what you’re saying. If people don’t want to bother with buy orders then people who do bother with buy orders are exactly the people enabling them to do so. If no one bothered with buy orders then there would be fewer sell orders, meaning less competition, meaning higher prices. The people you’re trying to demonize are the very people who enable the practice you’re claiming to defend.

This is a strawman you’ve created, no one suggested that 10,000 were gathered, but this disgust you’re leveling at traders is unwarranted. Traders give people money who ask for it and provide goods to those who ask for them. All three parties are satisfied. With no trader the seller would sit with goods and no money and the buyer would sit with money but no goods. Everyone’s unhappy. Why the extreme negativity, and how can you possibly claim that a trader does not provide liquidity- all a trader does is provide the definition of liquidity. They profit, sure, but what else do you think the trader should be motivated by? Love of their fellow man- grow up.

Server load:

Do you really think 1 million people hammering away at the server selling 250 stacks is less strain than 1 million people selling the exact amount they currently want to sell?

To me that can reduce the server load by 50%, 75%, or at least a large percent. How do you justify claiming that it would increase server load when the number of individual transactions would have to fall if the 250 limit was removed?

Seller protection:

If you are listing 10000 items you would have to expect being undercut. But that doesn’t mean you loose 1.35g it just means you need to wait until the buyers buy your products.

If you want more liquidity then it’s up to you, as the seller, to split your stack in to as many different packets as you think are nessesary. Maybe split it 25 times and relist once undercut, this means the removal of the 250 restriction has reduced your time wasted by 37%

The point being that this ‘protection’ is just putting a silver lining on a needless restriction. Given complete freedom each buyer and seller could each act in exactly the same way that the system current forces. The difference being that it would be their choice, their stratagy.

Ghosting bug:

I don’t think a system should be designed around a devastating bug. And considering most loses seem to be related to single item high price transactions it also seems entirely irrelevent.

TP Participation:

People buying in small parcels will always have an advantage over high quantity buyers/sellers due to the ability to undercut. You’ve actually stated this in your own arguement. How do you justify saying how large orders are uselesss due to undercutting while at the same time claiming that large orders would force small undercutters out of the market?

Seems to be internal inconsistancy.

What does ‘clogging up’ mean? Why are people with 10,000 of an item punished as opposed to someone with 100 of an item?

If someone has an item be it 10 of it or 100,000 of it they should be able to quickly offer such goods at whatever price they want for them. It’s then up to the buyers whether they want to purchase it or not.

If someone with 10 items wants to sell their items then they should just offer it for 1c less like most do now.

Clogging up seems to just be a negative interpretation of providing goods to people. When did this become frowned upon?

It works both ways. The chests were already being given away in massive quantities, allowing more than 250 to be purchased could have quickly cleaned that up if someone with gold was willing to purchase the chests.

But under the current system no human would choose to purchase more than 25000 items so any gluts are essentially permanent. Going through the buy process 100 times and sell process 100 times is just about enough to cause physical pain.

How about just about everything. Instead of being sarcastic, how about actually defending the benifit of the 250 limit? Because to my mind it’s only actual result is to create frustration and physical pain to people providing liquidity to the market.

If there is some benifical result from this needless limit then I’d be happy to know it.

In BWE1 the limit was 10000 and I’m sure a lot of you remember how insufficient even that was back when the economy hadn’t yet settled.

But now the 250 limit is a joke. It’s clearly not a technical issue, so someone at ANet must have thought that this was a good idea- it’s not.

All the 250 limit does it cause excess order spamming by high frequency traders and causes RSI.

Does anyone out there actually think the 250 artificial limit is a good idea? Why?
