Can you explain why is it important?
If you can sit in DS and range stuff without get any damage, good luck. DS traits also encourages to just flashing in and out, so i dont get it why it could be a problem. The fact that we should just be “popping in and out” of our main mechanic is a joke. You dont see other classes just using theirs every now and then. The closest would be Mesmers and thats only for some builds.
It needs a BIG buff so that it becomes a THREAT to someone and they arent just thinking “oh another health bar that i can instantly melt”
As much as I can appreciate where this conversation has gone, I do think you need to consider other classes, here. Guardians have been the most relevant class since launch and they get some passive skills and some activated on relatively long codowns. Warriors get an extra skill, engineers get 4 but no weapon swaps. Mesmers at best have a cooldown equal to death shroud, rangers mechanics are heavily flawed and thief steal is on a long cooldown too. I think that covers everything except elementalists who have a very strong mechanic.
Death shroud has flaws in my opinion, but lets not act like it’s wildly bad as a class mechanic. Even if you use it as a meat shield, it’s a good mechanic.
I’m not shocked by what was there, but I expected like 10 laurels and like 3-5 gold depending on where the server finished on top of that. I would have been completely happy with that.
They should have made the rewards good for everyone, doing that doesn’t encourage stacking servers and rewards us for a decent chuck of playing time. For all that leagues did to WvW, it really should have been more.
Then again this is basically a reward chest for doing the ruins achievements, because it was just about the only thing I did differently than what I normally do in WvW.
Are you implying that staff on necros is a good team support weapon?
Also you are wildly overplaying how powerful a “minefield” is. Most players run right through marks and it hardly slows them down.
The active is 5s on a 20s (16 traited, which is really easy to access) CD, which is pretty good.
Also, for a passive effect, a flat 300 damage reduction on every single hit? That is huge, especially for high toughness builds. Plus perma-retaliation, without taking up a retaliation slot, meaning you can be dealing something like 500-600 damage to enemies per hit.
This is one of those skills that is sitting on a razor’s edge. It could be amazing, could be terrible, it all comes down to the very small mechanics and numbers.
Edit: What’s the chat link for this?
I could see this meshing well with a near perma retaliation build, and I wonder if you could heal a lot using the active with say, axe or dagger 2? This could potentially open up a lot for a soldier/siphon necro build.
Like I said, I’m very interested in this.
I don’t understand how some are concerned that it’ll make us OP in certain situations. We can maybe survive being focused for once (maybe, depending on values) and that is bad? I think this has great potential if done right. If.
Assuming the siphon isn’t super weak and deals some damage, I will instantly run this in my wvw build. It’ll also be interesting for calling targets with my guilders. “Blow up their commander and get some heals!”
I’m definitely intrigued.
The only thing that concerns me about ascended armor is the likely outcome that heavies will see more of a benefit from it due to a higher % increase in armor. Making oft played warriors and guards that much stronger in comparison.
An Ascended Weapon would nullify this change though, would it now?
Currently everyone runs exotics with some now getting Ascended Weapons. So currently they have the edge. When Ascended Armor comes, this then would bring everything back to when everyone had Exotic’s. Am I thinking about this wrong?
Also remember that just because Ascended Armor comes, it’s going to take a truly dedicated person at least a few weeks if not months to get a full set of Ascended Armor.
My point is that ascended armor will have the same stat buffs for everyone, but potentially more armor rating for heavies. So they perhaps have more to gain.
But yes, having all ascended gear essentially cancels that out.
Necros are mighty unhappy about their signet heal. I tend to agree.
I think the difference comes from necro specific siphons being insanely weak, so if this one is weak too it’ll never outshine consume conditions. But siphons from other sources are strong, so we shall see.
Power necro is bad for pvp.. (unless you are MM power necro). You have absolutely no defense, or cc, or something, just damage and little more hp with DS
Maybe spvp, but he’s talking about wvw.
In very small roaming power has it’s limitations, but it’s main defense is a great offense. Most classes can’t really respond to the amount of burst we can dish out, or at least not for long. You can also get some CC with golem, warhorn and doom. Or just 1 spam people to death with Lich. But you have options and it is certainly viable.
I second this although I believe it’s been mentioned.
I don’t know why it doesn’t exist, they could sell additional template slots and make a ton of money.

I actually like DS just as it is.
I’d like to see more things synergize with it, though. Like how signets don’t work with it, heals don’t work with it including our traits, etc. I think it would be better if polished.
One thing I think could be fun though could be like a life tap feature, to sacrifice life force for say 1 second of “spectral escape” which would be like an invuln or something, for a relatively high cost of life force. So someone would need to pick between saving that life force HP or dodging 1 big attack. No cooldowns needed. It could allow for more skill usage with death shroud and allow for some counter to a lack of stability for us.
Both of those weapons are weaker in 1v1s. Try well bombing with dagger, and make sure to trait into axe and have it out when you go into DS for big life blast hits. Float in, immobile and well bomb, get a dagger 1 chain off, then float back out and hit them with axe 2 and life blast.
You’ll have some trouble against certain builds like warriors or mesmers, but you can always try switching traits and utilities to MM for more 1v1 prowess.
But for zerging I believe that your build is about as powerful as you can get for WvW. Get ranged wells and sit back and collect your bags.
He probably means from ascii’s wellomancer build which uses axe.
That build is more specific to group fighting. Dagger is probably your best bet.
I think most would agree that dagger is better for wells due to the immobilize.
Axe is really only best for using while traited with death shroud. But not with wells.

You are great at outlining the advantages of marks, but I think you’re overlooking that all of our marks need to be aimed and have to be triggered. So that means nothing on downed players or structures, and if they are laid pre-emptively they are ludicrously easy to dodge. This does assume that you do land them.
I have been saving up my laurels and guild commendations and I’ve been thinking of spending them on giving some ascended gear to an alt, since they have changed the WvW WXP to being account bound. I started leveling a guardian and had a lot of fun playing a more support like role in a zerg and had a blast, although I don’t always enjoy playing in melee in zergs.
I thought that I could potentially make a good support build for my necro for mainly zerg warfare. So far I have been looking at making this build with mainly apothecary gear:
5/20/10/20/15
5 – health on enemy death
20 – blinds cause chill & terror
10- Wells give protection
20 – transfusion heals allies & reduced well cooldown
15 – reduced DS skill cooldowns, spectral armor at 50%
Well of blood, well of darkness, spectral wall, spectral walk, plague
(Forgive my lack of a link, typing this on break)
What I am thinking with this is still being functional on a damage dealing basis, but also having the ability to drop some awesome team support if necessary every 30 seconds or so. I’d also do OK with self sustain with spite 5, blood 15 and SR 15, and I’d provide some good debuffs through weakness, cripple, blinds and chill, as well as the damage dealing conditions.
I’d imagine the playstyle in a zerg would be to sit roughly right behind my own front line, giving heals and making the enemy we clash into less effective.
So I wanted to ask, does anyone run a similar style build in WvW? If so, how do you play it? I would love to know more about this playstyle before I up and buy the gear for it. I’m also up for any constructive thoughts on this build.
I think part of the issue with warriors is you can’t always be sure what spec they are running so it can be difficult to be prepared for them. Recently Ive seen sword/greatsword power/mobility specs, weirdly 100b warriors, stun warriors, tank builds, longbow/sword condi builds, and more. I think the strength of their heals and sustain allow for the build diversity.
Generally you can go wrong with kiting, dodging the big animations and keeping the pressure on them. Foot in the grave is helpful as are blinds, and if you have the build for it, you can burst them down and chase them away.
I play for the variety of fights, the different strategies, and I do enjoy commanding when I get the chance.
Mostly I do enjoy the heroics of certain situations and the big Zerg on Zerg clashes (especially when my side wins).
I also just generally enjoy being on TS and talking to the people I play with.
A necro can be more offensive but a ranger can have much more support. I’m sure there are rangers that also do pretty well in zergs, and Necros that don’t tag a ton of players.
I don’t know if you’ll ever see this simply because you could figure out populations from ppt and what points the servers own at the time.
It’s a good idea but I don’t know if it’ll happen.
SBI aren’t necessarily villains but seeing as how they have recently rolled a lot of lesser servers, it’s normal that most people will cheer against them, so to speak. Just like how most people cheered for Auburn to beat Alabama this past weekend if you are familiar with American college football, because Alabama is a dynasty that always wins. So it is fun to see them lose. It’s the same with SBI right now.
My life blasts hit for that much but on a target with that much toughness, I need to have might stack and my target with high vulnerability stacks.
My build utilizes additive % damage modifiers such as: Spite(AxeTraining,Close to Death); Soul Reaping(Strength of Undeath); Sigils of Force or Night and whatever rune set give me additional power. I’ll roam today and pick up some screens if I can pull together a 9k hit like that.
Honestly it’s a perfect storm to get a perfect snipe shot like that don’t even talk about Lich Form :p
This. If you get the right combos and situation it is possible. He likely had a lot of them go right, plus might and some vulnerability going. Very fun on those glassy thieves that think they are so sneaky to two-shot them back.
It would also make it easier because, in EB, green is supposed to be the easiest to attack, and red the hardest to conincide with the old color ranks. But servers changed quite a bit over the period if leagues and right before them, so my server who is tied for 6th in bronze league has been green every single week, defending a more difficult position in EB from larger groups, and having a harder time attacking.
I see nothing wrong with 2v1ing a server that stacked it’s population in order to roll lesser servers. It’s poetic justice to me.
please keep in mind that not all of us wanted this, I am one of those, but considering you can’t bar people from transferring on or off a server it is not really in anyone’s control what servers gets stacked.
While I’m sure there are many people like that on the server, I’m also sure that you still benefitted from larger zergs smashing other server groups, more waypoints, more bonus chests, more captures, etc. As much as you may not have asked for it, I also doubt that you have asked your new transfers to leave.
I won’t give any sympathy to anyone complaining of actually fighting the full force of the 2 servers they have likely been stomping for the past few weeks, and there are many others like me. It’s lonely at the top.
wait? what? did I complain anywhere in there? I did not and in fact if you read all in this thread or even looked at my posting history you would see that I have been saying since league started that I’m not happy with our numbers. I’ve also said it in our TS, La Map, WvW maps.. don’t presume to know me or what I think without doing some research first. Also, those weeks when I knew we would be outmanning servers I did not go to world, rolling over people for the simple fact that you can, and using tactics like spawn camping, emotes, etc is not something that I’m interested in and for sure will be the thing that makes me leave. Demoralizing a server to the point that they don’t even want to show up is not what world has been for me. I don’t get jollies from it and neither do most of the people I know. Again you presume too much.
Sounds like you aren’t happy with your numbers. You are free to leave if that’s the case.
People are so kitten over people flocking to the top-tier servers that anyone that plays on these servers is automatically guilty and should be mocked. Because everyone knows top-tier servers just phased into existence one day, and werent build up by a community who started playing all the way back in late august 2012.
The problems only exist because the server is stacked. They all have the power to change that.
They deserve to be mocked for posting it, it’s like an obese American complaining about the food and cell phone reception in a 3rd world country. It’s too ironic.
I find it wonderful to yank people off walls in WvW or do silly things. People always forget about this skill in WvW, so they don’t know what to do when they are suddenly yanked into the enemy zerg and chilled (answer is usually die). I’ve even managed to yank people off of cliffs a couple times and let them fall to their deaths.
It doesn’t work this way. It doesn’t work at all.
It does work for pulling people off if walls as long as you are pretty close and they are standing on the ledge. That’s the biggest use it has for me.
Server: Kaineng
Bronze league
Enjoyed season 1: no, not any more than I would have enjoyed regular wvw match ups. In fact, probably less.
Should we have a season 2: no. Not in the current format. I think some interesting things came from the league like having real wvw achievements, but I think it did way more harm than good and shouldn’t happen again.

It might be lower than you anticipated looking, but a lot of what you described fits Kaineng.
Ride the lightning was OP because it was unaffected by conditions, really long range, low cool down and a knockdown. Name a warrior skill that does all that then I will agree it should be nerfed. Don’t forget now it halves the cool down when it hits so not a nerf when used to fight
Updraft is the knockdown used in combination with ride the lightning. So ride the lightning doesn’t do all that.
I feel like at least our own traits should work in death shroud, like spite 5 or the siphons. How many classes have traits that don’t synergize with the class mechanic?
(edited by Roe.3679)
The toolkit for engineers is far more reliable than spectral grasp at longer ranges. I would love to use spectral grasp more regularly but it is so unreliable unless I’m right on top of someone to begin with, in my experience with it.
I just started commanding rather recently too.
Here are my tips since when you tag up, people may not know you:
- You’ll need to show you know what you are doing immediately. People may not come to you if they don’t think you’re doing anything. You’ve already seen it in this thread: everyone has a tag. Be competent. If you build it, they will come.
- always have supply. You’ve seen it too where a Zerg fails because it ran out of supply.
- be nice. People respond to kindness, being mean in a video game doesn’t give you authority.
- don’t put yourself in a position to fail. If you don’t have the people or position to do something, don’t. It you are leading pugs, they will only stick around for a few wipes before they start to disperse.
- always have tons and tons of siege. Spend your badges on it. Spend your gold on it.
- communicate everything, even if you have to by chat. People on my server don’t use TS much (we are very low tier), so using chat is necessary. Have a plan, communicate your plan, and keep communicating.
The rest really is up to you. Knowing the best offensive and defensive strategies for the situation can’t really be taught. But basically my advice is always be prepared, nice, and realistic.
I wouldn’t say Kain has inexperienced players. I just transferred there a few weeks back, and I feel like the players are more like jaded veterans of WvW. Good players individually, but many are left behind by guilds that left or friends who no longer play. They can be aimless, but a Kain Zerg is very powerful compared to other bronze league zergs when these players come together as a group.
I see Kain as a server that is a handful of NA guilds and commanders away from being a much stronger server.
100b is stationary, melee range and a longer cast. I don’t see how a necro should be allowed to do that much damage from range and while moving.
Come to Kaineng.
Send me a PM if you’re looking for an organized WvW guild, I’ll get you in contact with our guild leader, assuming you transferred there.
As much as this would help smaller groups, it makes zergs even stronger.
I’ll take your stuff if you don’t need it anymore.
Someone else said it, just give axe 1 splash damage. It’s a really strong weapon if you work it into your playstyle and build, and it fits well with MM and DS builds. It doesn’t need a big change. If it has a little AOE damage on axe 1 then it is perfect.
Axe 2 does not suck like some people are saying. If you spam it mindlessly its not so great. Use it when people are out of dodges and you’ve stripped their boons, though, and the whole chain can hit for 7-10k depending on their toughness. It’s strong if you use it properly. Axe 3 is amazing as it is, too. Axe 1 needs a little love, and that’s it.
First place winners should get 10g
Second place should get 50g
Third place should get 100g
Fourth place should get 300gYou see where I am going with this?
First place servers dont need the help, they are perfect the way they are.
So you want to promote not showing up to get better rewards? Turn the game into who can do worse? Keep the ideas coming….
Personally I liked his idea. I mean, the gold will help those servers buy some rare or exotic gear. They could also use some of it to hire a build crafter for their guilds.
Or they could use it to buy guilds.
Hi there Mr. blackgate! Glad to see you talking the talk after your win has been secured!
I would say the same thing regardless of what server I’m on !
this moronic mentality that everybody is a winner even if they lose is wrong !
Perhaps you should drop the mentality that you deserve more than other players who have accomplished the same things. You aren’t better than players on evey other server just because you play the same game with more people than we do.
I have been running power alot lately and I have a pretty easy time with thieves, rangers, and other Necros.
I think the point about other Necros being easy to kill is that they are generally predictable as to what they can do offensively and have no real defensive cooldowns. If someone just spams everything they have mindlessly then they deserve to die quickly. A well played necro, though, can be terrible to play against.
no condition roaming build anyone?
i roam with condition damage and on wvw (call me crazy or whatever but it works)
just curios about what other people think since i never take a build or internet or share build with anyoneon an unrelated note…………. a necro that doesn’t have epidemic as utilities is not a necromancer
If he is roaming, he probably doesn’t plan on hitting a lot of targets at once. Also power Necros don’t need it at all.
Every server likes fighting their own tier. Perhaps we should just do that.
How about we to back to fighting in our tiers? How about every other week is fighting in your tier, and the next has the random element?
