proper course of action would be to go very basic: test for weapon coefficients in pvp on a target which armor you can control..

I was looking for someone on JQ/TC (I’m BG) that would be willing to let me use them as a punching bag but I still haven’t found anyone with the enough patience to commit.

I’d like to know something too.
The Fire Storm of the Imbued Grawl Shaman in the Volcanic Fractal… Is there any telegraph to this? I watched him but I see no animation, it just appears out of nowhere. Does he simply cast it under certain circumstances/every x seconds or am I just missing something?

I personally have not seen an animation. from what i have noticed its just a red aoe ring that appears and you have about 1 second to react before doom.

Actually I have a question about historical dungeon. Before Twilight arbor got changed to have the aetherpath (because appareantly only Arah is allowed to have 4 paths), Fyonna’s Path was forward/up. But where did up/up lead? Who was the final boss of that path?

that being said, myself personally, I have a bunch of charecters. and many of them are male. but i do have my “sisters of death”

and dont feel Bad Ivan, this is my first serious MMO, i played WoW for all of about 45 min, and I did a stint on FF11, (god and people think grinding is hard in THIS game.)

I leveled from 25 to 50 by purely leeching off my group with 38-40 and 49. God save my soul!

and at 3 am NA, its really hard to find a group.

this cramps my plans….

As i have a personal standard I am trying to achieve. And a guild i wan to apply for, but I need to get to 50. Which then begets the question. Having reached 50 purely as a PuG an accomplishment unto itself. what does that say of my ability and my “toolbox” if you will….

the highest i have seen was a warrior 100 blades. ( yes i know it ran outside of the time limit that you stated.)

this was long time ago so alot of mechanics have changed but just for fun.

116k hundred blades. EVERYTHING was alligned. 25 might 25 vuln etc.

i may have to see if i can find the screenshot for it.

Dredge don’t dodge, have no condition removal and don’t heal except passive regeneration. Toxic are more close to it but still lack things like retaliation, confusion and self healing.

I guess if anything it is a step in the direction though.

Isnt that more or less what Wethospu was saying? it would not be so much as an overhaul of the AI. but simply adding MORE skills to an average enemies toolbar to use.

Kind of does make me wonder what would happen if MoB’s had the skillset of even the heart of the mist trainers.

How about making bosses and mobs like players in pvp? Like some people said, give them stability, stun breakers and dodges. But let’s not stop there. Give them boons, condition removals and, most importantly, self healing skills.

Give them also retaliation so you need some passive sustain. Now we have perfect balance – you can’t go with too much defense (not enough dps) and you can’t also go with too much offense (not enough sustain). You would need boon removals and cc. True balance achieved.

so,

I spent the majority of my day grumpy kittened off and just generally not in a good mood due to any number of things. Many of them came from these forums…. I really need to not be thinking about this stuff while i work with sharp knives and fire….

Anyway…

I am laying out a personal Challenge to the Dungeon Community. something to perhaps keep us busy and united. and not trying to murder the randoms.

Contest is open to submission beginning the moment this post gets live.
submissions will be accepted till MIDNIGHT JUNE 23rd, (June 24) MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME NORTH AMERICA.
you have 20 days.

Prize pool is 300 gold. from my own pocket. to be split among party members as you all deem fit.

Just personally, I actually kinda liked the ninja changes. Tonight was probably the most exciting night of dungeon runs I’ve had in a while, with highlights being stuff like ‘am I tripping balls or did the golem just move?’.

hp / person growth is constant (more or less). it’s just that with more people, you get more PTV leechers, so DPS goes down and time-to-die goes up.

would perhaps changing the way the numbers work to calculate condition damage to function similar to that of ferocity and critical?

such as instead of condition damage, you now have condition power. and for x amount of condition power you have x condition damage.

base line damage so it is equal across the board and have say.. (totaly made up number…) 2000 condition power is equal to 100 percent condition damage, and 100 condition damage is equal to 5000 damage per second. ( again totaly made up number)

i go here in the idea that would that “simplify” the computation? allowing for more space to compute a higher stack limit? as Blood Red suggested?

or would that cause such a rework in the structure that would cause all sorts of issues. and perhaps just adding the new conditions. via mega conditions more streamline?

I like where this is going. and Yes i would have to agree, although not with the tone, of good master Savage. Discuss the Condition Caps and possible solutions, Bringing the Power meta numbers in here is not going to end well.

that being said.

I personally like the idea of the “mega condition”?? I know the cap limit is where it is because yes it is extensive amount of computing going on to be able to keep track of just what is already happening. Either NcSoft needs to buy Arena net faster machines. or we make do with what we have.

Idea, (playing of what is already suggested. )

Bleeding is stacked, At 25 the stack becomes one stack of hemorrhaging1, doing X amount of damage over the course of X seconds. each time the bleed cap is reached a new stack of hemorrhaging is tacked on. maximum 25 stacks. for simplicity sake, cap it at that and leave it there till someday someone finds a build that will cap 25 hemorrhaging. which I don’t see happening any time soon.

I am no computer programmer, I work with food. But those of you that DO how would you feel that would play out? Could it be as simple as that as adding a new condition that is created by the stacking of existing ones? How does the processing handle something like that? Would it mis-balance PvP as it could cause a heavy shift into condition maxing for “mega” stacks…. or even though we are talking about some pretty hefty numbers are they really that attainable?

What about changing all conditions to “stack-able” ? stacks of burning and poison. and when an arbitrary stack limit is reached it becomes a “mega” condition. Poison becomes Plague. Burning becomes Hellfire, etc.

you can still hit him in Melee while he spins that its just tricky to learn the distancing, “maximum melee range”. Try it sometime. when he starts spinning dodge back and start inching forward swinging auto until you hit him. but you don’t get hit yourself.

just keep practicing on your spacing, and bask in the awe of the pugs who faceplant while they shoot them selves to death in the face.

The danger is with PUGs that keep range attacking… while standing behind you.

My main dungeon character is my guardian and I always pug. I have a question for you guys with way more experience than me.

Doesn’t HotW p1 end boss reflect projectiles? I always use staff when going into ranged. I try to stay melee as long as I can, but I always pug and the boss takes too long for me to not make mistakes and stay melee the entire fight.
I always kind of took for granted that the scepter projectiles are reflected in different directions and can hit my party members (at least the animations make it seem like that). I want to avoid that.

Anyway, I have been wondering this for a while. If I go ranged on HotW p1 boss, do I use staff or scepter?
Or if you can give me a way to stay in melee easier, regardless of it being a long fight with pugs, I’d love to be enlightened^^

thieves are a staple in many “meta” groups. 2 Ele one thief. the other two are situational.

and it s not just the stealth. The damage, the synergy with the rest of the group and well just yeah… they are in a good place.

The people that knew well they already knew. but the rest of PuGland finally is starting to catch up.

organized groups or even semi competent groups don’t need a necromancer. they literally bring nothing to the table.

So many of us the have full ascended Berzerker Necromancers have them sitting safely at home for casual runs with friends or open world mass slaughter.

I acknowledged Necros have a problem that needs addressing in my earlier post.

i know, I guess i was just affirming.

i WISH necromancers brought more. but until they do. my “sister of death” will have to bide her time

So my new guild is seemingly decent. I guess I don’t have all that much to go on but they’re very dungeon happy and they can do AC and TA. so I mean… there’s that? Right?

I’m excited to explore more of the depths of Tyria with them, but I think some of them who know me from here are under the false impression that I’m this amazing speed runner and well… yall know I’m not lol. Anyway, it’s interesting. The most important part is that I can talk as dirty and awful as I want and they seem pleased with it. Hooray!

They are good people LIllith, If you need an extra body on some runs you can always call me, and they all know me as well.

For what it is worth coming from a chronic pugger. (at least until i feel confident enough in my abilities to actually try out for a guild i have my eye on. but that’s another story )

Personally i think it all comes down to if you need reflects or not. Based on your above mention of your most comonly run paths, ( AC, TA, CoF, CoE ) Reflects are not as demanded. If you were running say… SE in your rotation it might be prudent to have reflection. I am basing my assumption on the idea of what at least I have had to do. as in I can NOT rely on the party to be able to provide the things that would be usefull. If they DO manage to do those things well it will come as a peasant surpise and life will continue to go on.

Guardian or Mesmer would be my suggestion. If you feel like you want to rely on your self for reflection up time. Mesmer being somewhat finicky as the obscene amount of reflection is traited. where as the good up time from guard is utility. That being said i think it would be down to what you would like to play more.

if you just don’t want to worry about reflection up time. I would suggest Warrior or thief. Thief at least has some projectile defense in the form of smokescreen, however they are fragile. Warrior as has been mentioned is self sustaining and its really hard to go wrong. Which is why I dont get to play my warrior that often as i cannot rely on PuG’s to be able to do what needs to be done.

Concerning Engineer. I honestly cannot say anything about them as mine is not leveld and i just cant find the willpower to work on it. However it is very true that they are really the swiss army knife of tyria and have a little bit of everything. just learn to “play the piano”

Concerning Elementalist, I have one. I like them. i think they are incredibly complex classes and capable of amazing things. I personally fell they are a direct reflection of the group they are in. if you have a coherent group the Elementalist will turn into god. If you have a… nasomuch (average pug). you will really only be capable of being average. Unless you are the type that can carry the whole group. I am NOT that guy so I don’t run My Ele very much.

Tl;Dr
Mesmer or Gaurd if you want reflections.
Warrior or Thief if you are not to worried about reflection.

the scaling on the dungeons is fine. Ultimately I believe that it will always come down to Yourself and your ability to Deal with the encounter you are about to face. and your party. and their ability to deal with the encounter.

leave Gear out of the conversation.

Example. Obal and DnT did a lupicus kill using the popular “play how you want” builds ( i lack a better terminology for it) . a Gaurdian, Necromancer (running conditions), A Flamethrower Engineer, Longbow Ranger, and a Warrior.
the kill took 4 min. Using the prescribed set of skills and rotations that the build creators suggested.
they then swapped back to dungeon “meta” and proceeded to casually down Lupi in 1 min.

In the grand scheme of things. 3 min on a legendary boss is really not that much of a time difference. Given that most groups will take 10, 20? 30? min to kill it. I know this because i have done it. the first MANY times i killed lupi it was a very long and drawn out fight. each time i go, i get a little better, and can do a little more in less time. the casual Guild I take through there is finally melee him more than ranging. after months of trying to get them to learn the fight.

what does all this mean? it is NOT a gear set. that will magically change things around. Dungeons are balanced and scaled rather well i would think. the players (or at least a many of them) have learned the fights. have learned the mechanics.

[rT] hold arah path 3 record at 7 min and some odd seconds.
it is acomplished by flawless execution of skills
NOT just a set of armor.

kind of makes me wonder what the time would be if they did it and the only thing they changed was the armor set? personally i think it would be around… 12?

CoE 2 was pretty easy to solo (need to get people to shut off the lazers though). A lot of fractals is easy too. I do suggest trying to solo Lupi first though since that’ll get you into a solid soloing mindset and clean up your timing quite a bit.

I am pugging my way to 50. I am at 40 and have never run with the same group twice. and to the best of my knowledge, outside of an insane low level run (thanks lilith!!! ) i have not done fractals with anyone of the dungeon forum regulars. And barring one lucky (for me) chance to pug with some DnT runners. (which they were amazingly patient and VERY instructive)

as terrible as it sounds. I may just keep at it. and say that i actually did it. the only problem that i have with it. is i am now awash with the “pugging tactics” and my only source of “good” running knowledge is via Nike’s twitch stream…

I am a guild leader in a guild with 250 people. ( and growing) and to the best of my knowledge i am the only one that runs “DpS” ….. * sob *

What do Thieves bring to dungeon runs?

the dungeon thief, (( lets see if i get this right))

the dungeon thief brings several things that are wrapped up into a neat little package. first being obscene Damage vs single targets (bosses) losing out only to an ELementalist. Your “go to” for single target is Dagger Dagger. Simple rotations with cloak and dagger, and the back stabs. as well as heartseekers at correct times. keep it simple in theory but will take some learning on how to keep it moving.

Sword and Pistol is your general use trash clearing and multi target Damage. basic concept is pistol 5 for the blind and 1 auto attack rotation, pistol 5, AA, repeat. throwing the occasional pistol Whip in will allow for convenient interrupts and a flurry allowing you some evades and breathing room. Pistol whip is (for me) the most wonderful thing for peeling off stacks of defiant very fast. so that your party can use a major interrupt when needed.

Personally i always have my shortbow on my swap. the damage is depressing but the utility is what you are after. Shortbow 2 into fire fields will blast fast stacking might. and your shadow teleport (5) is great for getting around and trash skips.

Stealth.
most common stealth mechanic used is using your smoke screen, and using shortbow 2 into it. blasting for stealth. for longer skips you can start with that, run a ways and then have your shadow refuge ready to be dropped for the longer duration and farther run. Smoke screen also provides convenient projectile defense as a block.

utility skills are semi situational. but generally speaking you want your Signet of agility (extra precision , and a emergency condi removal. ) and assassins, (extra power passive and a 15 percent damage bonus when activated). 3rd slot is up to you and what you are about to do. Personally i always have my agility signet on, and i adjust the other 2 as needed. Experience will allow you to know what you need for when.

Elites. I will take thieves guild most of the time. unless i think i might need the stability. just be aware that the thieves guild will scorp wire your target. so it may or may not mess up your defiant and or positioning of the target you are trying to kill. Experience will also help you in what is useful when.

general builds yes are 6, 6, 0, 0, 2 for max damage. 5, 6, 0, 0, 3 for slightly less damage, but more initiative. I think they both work well. just depends on how you are at managing your initiative etc.

regardless thieves are a lot of fun to play and are very capable of “pulling their weight” in runs not just their ability to stealth.
