I often wondered about this concept.

Speaking with Spoj and the relating work done by Dub, Specifically Lupi solo’s. For whatever reason, You can wreck Lupi in phase 1 and 2? with condition and then power your way through with power for 3 and 4.

For what it is worth I think that in a SOLO situation Conditions can be very usefull and offer some very solid DpS. Allowing a constant flow of damage.

in a group setting? well we already know how that is…

so theory craft/thoughts….
in my personal opinion Warriors, thieves, Necromancers, and Engineers. are classes that can get away with a high damage condition spec. That in a SOLO situation can do on par damage with a power spec. I hear rangers don’t do to bad at it but i have only even played a power based one and dont know enough about it.

putting myself up as an example. If I were to be applying to a " high level PvE " guild and i sent a video of me soloing Arah 2 with a condi spec… would you be impressed? Or would it be one of those things that you would then ask for the power based one and then be amused??

(( random thoughts are random. I have multiple classes these days. the trait swapping on the fly kinda screwed me out of having mutiple toons with multiple specs. but thats just me being odd. ))))

Awh, you now lose sigil stacks when unequipping land weapons even if you have an underwater sigil equipped.

so are stacking sigils worth taking these days then?

or we off to accuracy or energy etc?

as I still run perception on my fractal guard and Necromancer. still thinking ( perhaps follishly) that even a few stacks is better than nothing…

…. random,… math people. how many stacks of perception does one need to equal 5 percent that accuracy would give you? ( i work with food not numbers!! ))

Ryn,

some good ideas above.

for what its worth here are mine.

the folks At DnT and rT have been nothing but helpfull in my own asking and pestering them occasionally. a lot of it is simply just knowing the chosen class you have decided to try it with. Each one will have its strength and weaknesses.

Warrior being a popular one due to its internal sustain. Wethsopu, Purple Miku, come to mind when i think if top notch warrior players. that know that class inside and out. And solo some of the hardest content in the game.

Sanderinoa comes to mind for Mesmer. and he has many solo vids up you can see what it is he does. He was the one way back when that inspired myself to really start looking at the classes and not just slapping on some gear and running. but to really think about what was happening.

Randomfightfan, may not be around as much as he used to be but he was the one that got the whole ball rolling for thief and the fact it was possible.

Spoj, hass been a voice in the Necromancer World and although we know that Necros are in a rough spot concerning PvE and dungeons. it doesnt change the fact that they are so much fun to play. So like many other we have joined Spoj safely tucking away our Necros for casual fun stuff waiting for the day they become something more.

not to detract from the original purpose of the thread but to encourage you to just try!

start with AC story. it simple. its really straight forward. choose a class you want to do it with and just start running. and REALLY look at what it is that they do. When you have completed AC story i would imagine you have a better idea of not so much what YOU are capable of, but what the chosen class can do. at that point you can think about another path. and start to break it down mentally and plot out how to pull it off, before you even set foot inside the run.

tl;dr

AC story, start there.

Where are poeple calculating the gold from?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ropechef.6192

Ropechef.6192

shortish answer.

the amount of gold you get is related to the number of paths you do in the amount of time you get them done in.

dungeon guild tour usually involves around 3 hours (ish) and 17 paths.
you have all of the end reward gold.
all of the random silver and gold drops etc from the bags of wonderous goods.
all of the random armour and weapons of which you salvage and then sell the components on the BLTP.

translating to approximately 50 to 75 gold (depending on what dropped for you) per tour.

the catch is with the recent nerf in boss chests. being that you can only get even the boss chests once a day. it means you run your chosen paths once per day and then that’s it. So ultimately depending on how much time you have to play per day or how much you want to run. many other variables come into play.

the original 8 plus gold per hour running CoF 1 was a long time ago when the rewards were not gated to dailies.

Edge of the mists is a great place for a solo player to get karma. all it requires is you jumping in on the train running and away you go. You get champ bags and various loot bags. Personal return has been around 8 to 10 k karma for about 2 hours worth of work.

Fractals of the Mists offers a far greater karma gain. However it requires 4 other people besides yourself. Personal return has been around 20 to 30k karma for about 2 hours worth of work. as well as various champ bags and loot bags.

Regardless of the schematics of who can get what in how much time. I would agree with the original concept of reintroducing Karma as a reward for dungeons would not be a bad thing.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Ropechef.6192

Here’s the problem, Mike:

You are a new “dungeoneer”. You have attempted one dungeon. It was Ascalonian Catacombs, a dungeon I personally hate, but that most people fly through with ease. However, new players do not, because dungeons are the “hardcore” PvE that this game offers (along with things like Teq and Wurm). It takes practice.

You are posting on here, acting like an expert on the dungeon PvE in GW2 when you honestly haven’t even experienced any significant part of it. My first dungeon was a Caudecus Manor story solo. I did not succeed.

What you’re doing here, is you’re making yourself look really bad by acting like you know everything there is to know about dungeons. It’s like trying to tell a seasoned painter they’re doing it wrong (or even that art is a a lame garbage waste of time) after taking Art 101: Introduction to Drawing. The dungeon runners here aren’t simply dungeon speed runners, they are mentors, they are theory crafters, they know this game’s PvE in and out. And You’re trying to give advice as though you (or these elusive guildies) know everything there is to know, when there is no credibility in your claim.

I know what it is like. When I first ventured here, I argued with the best Arah runners about Arah p4. I acted like I knew it all, from my 2 failed runs and 1 success. It was a really hard lesson. The point is, you should be learning these dungeons, not acting like there’s nothing left to learn and that the systems are inherently broken, just because you are parroting what you are hearing from folks because it makes you feel better about the failed AC run.

I get it. Please. This is a place for learning and community. We have all taken efforts to make this place a good start for newbies (check the stickies!). We cannot, however, make it a well of information for those unwilling to learn, though.

[PvE] Necromancer - Can we get a rebalance?

in Profession Balance

Ropechef.6192

I will quote myself from a question about Necromancers in the dungeon world.

does this apply to the general PvE? … ish

rebalance might be to harsh a word to go for. what i think is we just need some more utility that will allow for Necromancers to fill a spot that they simply cannot fill right now.

I love my Necromancer.
a lot.
It was the first one to get world completion. ascended armour and weapons. and a shiney fractal capacitor.
i love my necromancer so much that i safely tuck it away away from the dungeons and the majority of the pugging that i do.
the Necromancer is a VERY… VERY selfish class.
It has some great DPS against a SINGLE target. it has some great sustain. its got lots of fun things to do and play with.
but it is NOT a very good team player. (at least in Dungeons) unless you build the team around the necromancer. the tools that a necromancer has such as blinds, vuln stacking etc are there yes. but in the process of creating those situations you are damaging your team mates ability to do their job. We can keep up an almost permanent blind and vuln stack, but at the cost of covering up fire fields, condition cleansing fields. etc. so yes. you can blind and vuln the living hell out of everything. but at the cost of your teams might and condition cleansing etc.….
see… selfish
I STILL love my necromancer. But as far as dungeon running goes. if we are doing a casual and or Yolo bring whatever run or low level fractal. what not. Sure i will bring it along. But when it comes down to “work” it stays at home, and farming the world.
regardless of this. a lot of the Necromancer players KNOW this. and we are VERY saddened by it. so till the Game adds something to the Necromancers utility kit that is team oriented that is unique or better than the other classes. you will most likely not see a necromancer in “high end” PvE and Dungeon running.

I would offer this suggestion. start with all the trinkets and the like. even just Exotic. Start there.

make it a normal plan to run CoF 1 and 2, and All of CoE. if not every day as often as you are all feeling up for it.

each time you have enough for a piece of Armour via tokens. pick it up and replace the counterpart piece. keep doing the runs and replace each piece when they become available.

I have some of my own people on a similar regime. so far it seems to be working and they are more confident in there abilities to adjust as needed. Yes it will take a bit to eventually make the whole swap but who knows they may become addicted and want more.

Edit: I should echo the most important part too. start with the BUILD. get the traits dungeon oriented first.

[…] Would anyone please enlighten me as to why the rune of strength would be the better choice compared to scholar for a necromancer in an organized group?

It’s not. Scholar is better.

Thank you. Now I feel much less ignorant.

So I guess I have to file that particular comment under “didn’t really understand what’s going on”. Or at least less than I do.

Scholar still rules for Necromancers. At least in organized groups. The Necro cannot creat might for other only for themselves. That being said, If you have an ELe or phalanx warrior giving you might ( or more acurately you are leeching it) Scholar will riegn and you will do big white numbers with red spots behind them.

The Strength rune thing comes from the idea of you not having anyone giving you might, “pugs”
Its a Nemisis thing. In his original creation of the “glass cannon necromancer” he used a combination of runes for power and might duration. Your internal might coming from Blood is Power, and a traited life blast to grant might on hit. (30, 10, 0, 0, 30 )

tl;dr

Scholar is good! in organised groups. Solo play and such, Strength might be the way to go. much like many other classes.

fractal bosses yes do tend to take longer and are more drawn out. damage still matters. but having a single warrior with this would keep might up for the duration of the fight.

I guess the question again lies in that is the loss of personal Damage out wieghed by the constant 25 might? via phalanx and forcefull greatsword?

maybe not so much a “record” run build, but as a pug or defensible fractal build?

maybe something like 5, 0, 0, 6, 3,

I think Dub and Hendo have the right of it.

it is NOT an optimal setup for organized dungeon groups. However, as a starting point for a fledgling dungeon guild or someone looking to understand the mechanic of stacking might and what it entails. the half step for those that are learning. and what it could mean for them in their progression as a dungeon runner.

its certainly not a bad thing.

as i said before. in one of the guilds i run with. i am happy the warriors are taking this trait sometimes. as it brings the groups Damage up. and they can start seeing the light that is big white numbers.

of course i could be completely misunderstanding anything we are talking about.

but we have no shortage of warriors. and several of them run the new phalanx.

I like that I can run with them more often and have more might in the group. but again this is a casual and fun group.

personally I think the phalanx is more geared for WvW… imagine if you will a blob with 25 might?

Zerker nerf is not enough

in Profession Balance

Ropechef.6192

You can’t nerf a set to fix what is a mentality issue :

I do not think it is a mentality issue, or at least not only a mentality issue. I think it is an encounter/mob design issue.

it is a mentality/ people issue… always has been.

If every one respected other people desire for a specific playstyle this would be a non issue. you want to run DPS meta? hang out with the DPS meta folks. generally speaking they already do. You dont want to run DPS meta? THATS FINE hang out with those that dont.

if everyone respected the others playstyles and stopped whining and kittening and moaning on the forums about (insert complaint here) we might actually be able to spend some time playing the game. and having some fun.

on top of that. it is NOT a mob AI issue. there was once a time where all of the encounters were difficult. Do you remember the first time you Ran Arah? or hell even AC? yeah it sucked. Now go do it 100 times. it becomes easier. All the while the population kittenes whines and moans about gods only know what. So, Arena Net has to spend time resources and money catering to the people that are upset about their latest gem store skins being crappy. or how the latest Living story content is to hard or long. or… gods only know what else.

where instead… maybe working on more dungeons. more content. more anything!.

you want more content to cater to more playstyles??

then stop crying over the fact your 2nd legendary is now “uselesss” and you should get a refund.

there is no arena net dungeon development team. no people to be creative and create those amazing encounters we all dream of.

they are busy fixing bugs and polishing skins and glitches in events that YOU ALL ASKED FOR!

now if you will excuse me I am going to go and play Guild wars 2.

Does banning a class improve quality of life?

I have done a 5 necromancer run on AC, needless to say it was tricky because i was the only zerker.

but yes the way to do it is with warhorn 5 and well of corruption. send 2 one side send 2 other side. stack wells and locusts and your 5th person hovers middle and kites till the middle burrow pops and drop wells etc. (( assuming we are talking about path one. )

it CAN be done, but like anything you have to think about what your CLASS not your build can provide to the situation.

How many times have you heard some random warrior not dropping a banner because he runs shouts? or.. (insert random build concept here)

As an avid Necromancer player even I admit to the fact that Necros just dont provide what others do better.

Necromancer is a casual for fun, do anything class. unless something changes soon, they will never be part of the “speed run” meta. Which is more or less what the hate for zerker comes from is so many people trying to be speed runners. but not understanding all the nuances that make the speed run groups. ( DnT, rT, DD, LoD, etc) effective at what they do.

and i am rambling, so i will shut up.
