you know,

I am a Chef by profession. I currently head up a Japanese restaurant and do sushi. I am pretty good at what I do. I am in no way comparable to that of say Chef Morimoto. But you don’t see me crying and sulking and demanding a “nerf” to him, his crew and his restaurants.

To All of the gang at {rT]
that was absolutely outstanding and VERY, VERY well done. greatly impressed and I can only imagine the attention to detail, tweaking, theory crafting and final application of how ever many hours it took you to finally pull it off. My hats off to you. and maybe someday I might be able to run with you. Keep doing what you are doing and Keep being awesome. You are indeed an inspiration for at least some of us.

and maybe someday I might be able to go to eat at Morimoto’s place and appreciate his work.

I could be wrong, But I don’t think this is a “bug”. At least in my experience Alphard just has a rather nice condi cleanse. Just part of the mechanic.

a number of the threads are ones that got moved from GW2 general to dungeons by moderators (correctly i might add).

which there in lies the problem,
by moving a suggestion from the populous concerning the dungeons. TO the dungeon forum, you would think that would be a good thing. Regretfully, it just means that no one will see it.

I am holding out hope that some day we will have some more interaction with the developers here. but who knows when that will happen.

I have noticed a lot of people coming into the dungeon forums and posting new threads asking for any number of things. However they tend to always center around various topics. So, Before you all start letting your feelings be known, 3 things.

1:
Dungeon forums FAQ top of the page.
GO READ IT!

2:
THERE IS NO DUNGEON DEVELOPMENT TEAM!
they were let go and or absorbed into the Living story teams Any complaints and or suggestions and what not will fall on deaf ears. The dungeons are the way they are now. and will be for the foreseeable future. as much as you may hate X or dislike Y and have a great suggestion to fix Z. I hate to say it, but it wont go anywhere.

HAVE FUN! and make you OWN fun.
So many people here are wonderful and awesome people to play with. good friends and we are always willing to help out new people if you are willing to at least listen to the suggestions of those that have been doing this awhile. Welcome to Guild Wars 2 lots to do!

Off the top of my head. These are the runs that require you to have at least 4 to 5 people simply due to mechanics.

CoF 1 (gate lock)
Crucible of eternity, all paths (laser trap room)

I am most likely missing some, But again off the top of my head that is all I could think of this morning.
That being said. It is possible for you and your friends to be able to complete every dungeon path otherwise with just the three of you. think of it as a challenge HAVE FUN! and enjoy yourselves!

Necromancer will not be a “Record run class”

that being said.

still love playing mine. and I will still continue to do so. But kitten many others have said. In the overall scheme the utility Necromancer does bring, other classes can do it, or do it better, or do it AND bring something else.

Perhaps make the Axe Auto cleave In a way that shortens the range and operates similar to that of the spear?

Keep 2 and 3 as is.

just change the range and hit box for the auto?

or,

I am all for dagger cleaving. Or I am all for a sword of some type.

I think personally it would be easiest to just make the dagger cleave. by giving us a new weapon would be cool. but that is a ways out for us as they would have to make new weapons for everyone. Changing the hit box for Dagger auto like they did for the Ele’s lighting whip would be a good thing,

For a Build to be used in dungeons. I would recommend heading to the dungeon forum and asking there. REMAIN CALM when they offer advice. they are good people there. and if you listen and ask the right questions they are VERY helpful.

basic info for mesmers. I would suggest this Head to youtube and search for “Mesmer dungeon Q&A” it is done by a gentleman named “Nike”

the best healing I have ever received in a dungeon has been from a Berzerker Engie.

Personally. I really LIKE that they did away with the trinity, and I honestly hope they never introduce it.

I think that’s a great idea.

I would also add that I envision the future of fractals to be something along the lines of 50 to 60 the instabilities become randomly generated. each run. and then from 60 to 70 say each shard. becomes random. It would offer a different challenge each time you go.

but that’s me and whishfull thinking.

I agree with you. when a group does dredge “properly” meaning using actual tactics and thought process. its a VERY smooth and enjoyable run. I personally LIKE dredge fractal.

Granted yes we are looking at standard "PuG’ mentality. but When Obal and DnT did the fractals guide shown at 48. you bet that I watched the dredge run. Alas, most people don’t even know that such resources exist. So they come to the forums Cry that its to hard. and when People like Nike and Obal offer methods to succeed. well we all know where most of it goes. pity.

Bottom line, yes, I agree with you. Dredge fractal is a good run

Yeah that was my bad for the slight derailment. but it was still a valid question I thought.

None the less, thank you all again for your help.

Bottom line then. Big damage comes from Critical chance and Critical Damage. And your ability to create that situation.

Thanks you guys for the replies. I have more of a solid base to be able to answer the questions of my people.

random side not though. Why would PvT gear be the Meta in WvW? over knights? or do I just not know enough about the meta there? given that you could have the better damage but still retain survivability?

or is it the vitality people are after to buffer against conditions as well as the direct hits?

Thanks Berner, I will have to look more closely into that read.

Frifox. THAT statement makes more sense. as yes thinking on it a little more many traits happen “on crit” so having the precision that Knights offer over PvT would make more sense.

So as to the pther part of the question. How does damage proc? is it the combination of crit and crit damage?

One of the situations I am faced with is that I have another warrior in a group I run with. they run Soldiers with ruby orbs. and my war runs zerk scholar. Her power is only 1k higher than mine, and my crit chance is about 6?? percent higher? than hers (I forget the actual number off the top of my head. but it was rather close. ) And yet, for easy referencing, my 100 blades easily does 30k and hers only get to 20k if she is lucky.

thanks for the help so far. just trying to understand better so when I get asked I have a more solid base to answer from.

I figured I would ask the people that actually know what they are talking about.

various levels of debate going on within the various circles I am in. Concerning the gear sets. Mostly people having done math and throwing numbers that just don’t make sense to me. That being said.

How does Damage work?
In relations to Bezerker gear, vs Knights gear, Vs PvT gear etc.

Soldier Gear offers more Power than Knights. yet knights is known to fit into the Damage Meta for the “learning phase”

I am under the impression that it is a combination of crit chance and crit damage. but could one of you that know more than me explain it a bit better.

This again is for PvE and dungeons… What makes the big numbers happen? because I have seen some really high “power” numbers in other gear sets yet they still hit like wet noodles. ?

is there actually a formula that I can reference?

if you have thief targeted. and they stealth. you will lose target. UNLESS you are already channeling.

If you drop a ranger barrage say, or Necromancer mark. on thief. stealth or not they WILL get hit.

Stealth is a mechanic for the thief to be able to move around and yes they have many skills that are based off of “while in stealth” namely “cloak and dagger” with backstab.

The problem came around in WvW and PvP when there was “perma stealth” builds. basically trolling everyone, nevermind they hit like wet noodles. A properly traited and geared thief will do insane damage. but they will not be able to stealth “permenantly” which for most thieves. is perfectly fine. its an added mechanic and step is all. However, a Damage build thief is insanely squishy. Stealth is more of a “ohh kitten” button to bail from fight. and reset.

“burning banners” warrior banners burn on calling and do no buffing
“shattered mirrors” reflects don’t work.
“Elemental vacuum” elemental swap cool down is tripled.
“wrath of the lich” all conditions applied are applied to you.

in my somewhat limited experience.

for time invested. regular dungeons are more bang for your buck, IF you are running with a semi intelligent group, which is not terribly hard. (path set up being something like AC 1, 3 TA up, SE, 1,3, Honor 1 CoF 1,2) of which you can do in less than an hour.

however, again in my experience, the quality of drops in fractals is a bit better for me, I get more rares and exos out of fractals then regular runs. garbage stats 90 percent of the time, but wont complain about the ecto pulls.

if you want to make just a flat rate of fast gold. regular dungeons are more or less the way to go.

The Nemisis Glass cannon is amazingly good at crafting and sustaining the single necromancers’ DPS.

But as spoj suggests, what you are asking is the best PvE build. which is entirely subjective.

So, My suggestion, Look at Nemisis Glass cannon build, and look at Spoj and his Berzerker Necro for PvE. snd try them both and see what “is best” for YOU. and then what is best for your group you run with.

I will not claim to have as much knowledge as many on this forum. However from what I do know and can theorize I personally think the following will solve many issues in general and what has been stated here.

I came at this with a concept of what would be the easiest for Arena Net to be able to implement without destroying what is already there. From some if the concepts they may as well just say screw it and work on guild wars 3 with the amount of adjustments. So that Being said, here is my idea.

Theory crafting:

Make Dagger cleave.
we can debate the adding of new weapons all we want, but that would create a series of balancing issues that can be address later. if they ever decide to add new weapons or what have you. So just take the existing piece and change the hit box for it. Having a cleaving weapon opens up a lot for Necromancer.

Spectral Wall able to reflect and or Absorb projectiles
trait it is you have to, I believe there is a "spectral mastery trait. put it there. or somewhere in the adept tier. Having a reflection wall or even just a wall that guard against projectiles will help in many regards.

Make the warhorn skills blast finishers.
pretty straight forward Give the necromancer access to blasts that make sense. Or better yet. make warhorn 4 a blast. and warhorn 5 a swiftness, Might, fury buff for all party members just like the ranger and warrior horn.

In theory, I personally think those three things will alter necromancers to play within the “Group and party support” far better than before. And although I am no game developer, I think those things would not be that hard to implement. some simple cut and paste coding should achieve all of that…

be carefull on how you quote me, I may not be all that reliable.

however I will say that I personally have NO problem with dungeon sellers. I have even thought of using them a few times. just because I feel kinda lazy. but in the long run even if the arah armour and weapons are not unique any more, they are still cool to me. and I know I ran for all of them.

late Friday night here. thought about doing a run to finish off the day. pulled up LfG, went to arah because it amuses me.

for over 30 min, I watched. 2 (count them 2) sellers sit on their adds. they did eventually get filled. one was for path 2 the other path 4,

38 other parties. (yes I counted) poped and filled and ran in that 30 some odd min.

the only reason you see sellers is because it takes a long time to fill. Arah is run regularly. and often. you don’t see posts for it because they don’t last long.

If you are concerned about player greed, and all that jazz. try not using the trading post. ever, you have to farm ALL of your own stuff. you think there is a gear grind now?

The dungeon sellers that are perfectly capable of running a path solo or duo and sell of the work and make a little coin on the side. more power to them. ohh hey, I have an excess of mithril ore. I will just post it on the trading post… you see where were going?

Play your game, Have some fun with it, and enjoy yourself. that’s why we are here is it not?

launch codes recipe is for Soldier stats. easier way to get the trinket would be to go do Grenth in Orr. and Jones sells the soldier accessories.

if you are looking to farm the recipe so you can make a thing to sell. well that’s a different story all together. SE is run frequently, but only path 1 and 3…. 2 nasomuch. however it does happen. I would keep trying or start up your own groups in the LFG tool. plenty of people want it for dungeon master title. so you may not have that much trouble running it multiple times.

on a personal note, I have found that finding the dungeon recipes for stuff tend to yield better results when you run the path the second time in the same day. don’t know why it work like that but it has gotten me a couple of the recipes because I went back to help friends etc.

that was a good read though you are right. It does show how far many of us have come in our game that we have been able to overcome the initial challenges of various encounters. It does make me sad now though that there is now no one, or at least anyone vocal, in the teams of our Anet overlords that are working on more challenges. for us to overcome.

I remember the first time I did CoF 1, took nearly 2 hours. Now days even with an RP guild play how you want FULL clear takes about 15 min…

so doing 1 and 10 is the same tier. Don’t feel bad, it took a bunch of us a few days to realize it.

for easy mentality do your dailies for each tier at the high end, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50.
or low end, 1, 11, 21, 31, 41 ,

December 10th patch: New optimal PvE traits

Ran the 20/25/0/0/25 yesterday during a large scale guild run (tarnished coast Chains of duty crusade) I just picked the traits for damage that I could find. It felt different. but I did not really notice a whole lot of boost in damage. I have not been in a dungeon yet to compare so I would be interested in what you find Spoj.

that being said. it does however appear that the “new” build would be better for pugging as you are able to stack your might and vul easier on your own and become more self sufficient. but in a, even semi organized group environment the 30/25 may still be better as you would have more consistent buff access.

random thought though. Given that the dagger is preferred dungeon weapon of choice for us. would it not make more sense to go some points into Blood magic or is the offset in modifiers to minimal?

personal opinion.

I have not played any MMO’s before GW2. I am not going to count the grand total of 45 min I spent in WoW.

Been playing since launch. I got the fancy letter in my mailbox about this place called ascalonian catacombs. “whats this” I ask myself. ohh its a “dungeon” lets give it a try.

3 hours later and more wipes than I care to admit too. the party called it done. “holy cow this is hard”

you know what I did.

I went and leveled. because… well that’s what you do right? I was not strong enough. so I went and got stronger. Made it to level 40. got the invite for CM. “hmmm maybe I will go try that AC again.”

Hey look at that I made it. Whats this? an explorable mode? that sounds like fun.

the point in all of it. if you think that its to hard. Go get better. it what you do in all the other games right? Cant beat a oblivion portal? hmm maybe I need to get different stuff? It took me almost a year to actually read anything on the forums. and you know what I see. a majority of people complaining about how stuff is to hard….

really?

you want to know how long it took me to make my first legendary? about 3 months. and I spent exactly 0 hours on the champion train. because I paid attention. I know where to get stuff. because I went there. I leveled 3 different toons to fractal level 20 before the patch. and I PuG’ed ALL of it. I am the one now teaching my 300 plus person guild how to run fractals, and how to run dungeons. because I paid attention. I am by no means as good as MANY of the dungeon forum regulars. but some of them have taken me underneath their wing and shown me some cool stuff. because I want to be better.

you think stuff is to hard.
I think you are to lazy to try, and to stubborn to learn.

@Rafi : YEs, yes they do. so high that Anet had to nerf them. I have to say though watching them kill Lupi in 4 seconds was awesome,

@Xae: optimal setting do have to be taken into account yes, But I will still stand by my numbers for the most part as most as with knowledge most of the classes are capable of achieving “optimal” settings on their own.

again from what I have personally seen.

Warrior: 27k single hit was a solo instance.
Necromancer 31k Ghastly claws was a solo instance.
Thief: I have personally done those numbers solo. and stacking buffs on my own.
Ranger: I have personally done those numbers out in the world.

In the grand scheme of things. I think that It really does come down to the player itself. and or the group you are running with. Every class is capable of big and or similar numbers damage wise. what makes a class undesirable for some content is the ease of which people can play them. Why are warriors popular in PvE? because its easy mode. Why are Necromancers popular in WvW, because its easy mode.

(I realize that I may be way off kilter or preaching to the choir, meh. )

Obal was kind enough to put it together for us. I Have watched the swamp one a bunch of times and it has helped me IMMENSELY.

Note that these are done at the “old” 48, so they do not take into account the instabilities. However, in the grand scheme it should not matter for this particular situation

You are correct in many regards. Warrior is easy mode. other classes can out damage it but it requires work and thought.

Molch, Yes you can screw up anything. I have seen some pretty sad damage output from warriors. but to each there own.

ultimately it does come down to how well you can play your class. and what kind of co-ordination you can achieve with your group. A Warrior and a thief alone can put up 25 stacks of might easily.

there are real life number crunchers in the dungeon forums that crunch in game numbers for us because they like doing math.. (I know crazy right)

from my PERSONAL experience and viewing. I will assume the following. of a 5 second dps window for allowances for skills to process correctly. assuming that all are “fully buffed”

in approximately 5 seconds I have seen the following do…

Elementalist : 100k (fire rush with FgS)
Guardian: 49k (whirling wrath)
Warrior: 33k (100 blades) (I have also seen a single hit for 27k)
Necromancer: 31k. (Ghastly claws)
Thief: 22k (cloak and dagger with backstab)
Ranger: 20k (auto attack chain with sword)
Mesmer: 18k (blurred frenzy with phantasms out, if you want to add the phantasm damage in it would be closer to 25k)(I am not an expert on this and will willingly stand aside to someone who knows better)
Engineer: sadly I have not had the privilege of seeing the big numbers from them, only heresy. I do not doubt in the slightest that it can be achieved though. auto attack on ’nade kit does something to the tune of 5k per toss. so if we go with a 5 second window were looking at 20 k ish on auto attack. (again I am not an expert of this either, and would willingly stand aside for someone who knows better.)

Guan, does have the right of it though. number Crunchers and practice have yielded these results.

I will confess I am VERY excited to see the actual concept for the Necromancer. It might just be something that we have been looking for to add to the “speed kill” concept. As we know Necromancer although a lot of fun to Play, they are selfish. Everything that they can do other classes can do and in effect do that and more. So it leaves Necros more suited to WvW or PvP.

However, If this “heal” operates how I think it is supposed to operate. a well timed signet with an organized party could do amazing things. Example, (extreme but none the less), 4 necromancers and a Mesmer on Lupi, Phase 2 AoE, pop signet, mes drops feedback, lupi proceeds to do what he does. and because that damage counts as the Mesmers damage the Vanpire signet ticks for added life drain.

they add it as an ADDITIONAL damage modifier as we are all hoping it does.

if they add it as a generic number that you get healed for “x” percent of said damage output. (similar to that of thief signet of malice), it would negate the whole idea and be a crappy heal in general.

If they add is as a damage modifier, being Warrior hits for “x” amount signet then life drains for percentage of “x” amount equaling total amount “Y”.

well you just increased damage output of group, (equal to “x”) by whatever percentile they throw into it. by simply timing a well placed target and signet activation.

but you all probably already knew that……

I think they may have changed the way Agony works though. at least per the current table via the wiki.

running a 21 last night. with 15 AR. pre patch I would have only been ticked for 12 percent.
Last night it was hitting me for closer to 40.

They did say that they adjusted how the agony and AR worked and adjusted the table for it. However I do not think the Wiki has been updated yet.

In the Grand scheme of things. it really doesn’t matter as yes you are correct that you could achieve plenty of AR only using the versatile infusions. but by the same token I completely agree with you on the fact that you should be able to just add more infusion to the existing slot without having to make an entirely new “jewel”

in my experience..

level 1 – 9 = daily chest. with gold, Pristine relic, and other loots.
level 10 – 19 = daily chest with Gold, Pristine relic, chance at ring, small chance at skin and other loots.
level 20 – 29 = daily chest with gold, pristine relic, chance at ring, chance at infused ring, small chance at skin, and other loots.
level 30 – 39 = daily chest with gold, pristine relic, chance at Infused ring, chance at skin and other loots.
level 40 – 49 = daily chest with gold, pristine relic, chance at infused ring, chance at skin, and other loots.
level 50 = same as 49,

so if you want to run multiple runs for chances at rings specifically, run 10, 20, 30, 40, 50,

or some other variant within those tiers. this is as least to the best of my understanding, as I am only mid 20’s right now. I cannot personally vouch for the drop table at the 30+ tiers.
