The only thing I saw of ET was a late night 3 man Thief gank squad on the SoR borderland. Their pastimes included capturing then camping a single camp, then stealth render abuse ganking anything that came to investigate, capturing sentries then stealth render abuse ganking anyone who came to investigate, and finally using some crazy ‘teleport-across-the-map’ hax when any groups came to gank them.

Nice work ET thief gank squad.

It’s great. You barely ever do, but if you have a mesmer around with one, it’s a great tactical advantage for your team.

Here’s all you need to know SoS,

SoR’s oceanic, or “night time crew” are fine. We smash you constantly, we’re better man for man, and we know that like the weather, your zerg will pass with a few hours time. All we have to do is slow you down or stop you at the gates, and you waste away with time.

Everyone seemed so exited to see the SoR, SoS matchup. SoS has been pretty average as far as I’ve seen. Good numbers, I’ll give you that, but not much else. SoR is tight. Nothing for you to worry about.

An endless stream of tears. I love this thread.

There hasnt been an update to mesmers that’s effected my mes negatively. Perhaps that means that balancing has happened (to whatever builds you guys have been running), and really there are approaches to the mes which are all good.

PvE mobs die quickly and can’t kill me.

PvP enemies die quickly and can’t kill me.

At the end of the day it’s all down to skill though. I guess I’m just doing it right. Being a mes player like you guys, maybe I should cry about that?

1) Who gives a crap if the mesmer cant do something another, or as the case may be, every other class can do (You guys, obviously, but all I see if unjustified crying so…)

2) Why not stand around outside a siege ready for some other aspect of the fight? If this argument were valid, then you should be crying about having nothing to do when you show up to a wall that has no siege placed on it. “Waaaah! I got to the tower and the enemy had not placed any siege. It’s so boring, I had nothing to do!”

3) Mesmer, without the existence of iBerserker, is by far the most fun class to play during a siege, or when positioned in the “lesser” position beneath an enemy at some higher location. With Temportal curtain you will make the enemy fear even standing on the wall to the point that they will withdraw right off it, IF they don’t die first.

In conclusion: My recommendation is to stop with the crying, stop being scrubs, and play to win. If you think that’s with a gcannon, DPS, crit, hsword, iBerserker build, then good for you. Keep up the tears.

I’m a day 1 SoR. I’ve spent almost all my play time in WvW on our server to the extent that last week, when we had nothing left to fight on WvW, people outside WvW would make comments to me about the fact that the world had turned upside down seeing as I wasn’t in WvW.

Anyway the point to all that is just to say that I see a whole heap of claims and assertions being thrown around by people who clearly don’t have the full scope of SoR’s WvW history. Most everything, from hacking claims, to transfer history, to the formation of the core players (not to mention who they actually are) is terribly misinformed. So if you’re reading this, and you’ve read pretty much everything said before it regarding SoR, take it with a grain of salt. These people just weren’t there, came in late, or saw some event that they’ve created an entire story around since. That’s life for you.

Thief or not, a group of any classes is faster moving and able to run down a person. Except some thieves of course…

Not a bad idea in theory, and for the psychology of players. Still, in practical terms you’ll still have a “snowball” effect as the actual strong server who has everything capped will still have everything capped when the new daily score rolls around.

It’s still halfway to an improvement though.

I disagree. Mesmer portal is great, leave it as it. I don’t see any valid arguments here as to why it should change. The rendering issue least of all as not only are Anet working on removing it from existence, but you’ve never needed a portal to create a zerg render attack.

Here’s an idea: In theory server transfers are all good. People should be able to move where they want for whatever valid reason they can come up with. Obviously there are some downsides to this which have been well QQ’d about in this forum. One such problem is the fact that people want to win, and in fact they should be playing to win. One way to win is simply by switching to the winning side and calling it a day. The issue is that swarmed servers, previously full of dedicated, hard working fighters who worked for their success end up being cut out of their play time by queues brought on by refugees.

I propose a queue system that favors those who’ve been dedicated players on a server. So transferring players fall behind for a period of time, lets say a week or two. That way players who’ve been with their server from the start, or who have transferred and stayed through a two week probation period, get precedence to play. Transferees can still get in and fill up the gaps, they just come in behind those who havent abandoned ship recently.

This isnt so much about punishing people who want to move (for whatever reason). It’s about rewarding those who play with their server and stick it out for better or for worse. It’ll also make a person think twice before jumping ship.

This is win win for all servers everywhere, for all time.

So SoR has destroyed its opponents this week and the lands are safe and peaceful once more.

So, the soldiers have turned for farming…

Pretty much a big group of players are sitting in one confined space in the lake, spamming attacks in every which direction, pulling krate and killing them for loot at no risk. They’re all unresponsive, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find the group started as a bot party. You can see a bunch of players attached to guilds mixed in. Who knows. People are asking, is this “illegal”?

How to Kill a Thief

Two thoughts that can help with thieves:
1) Even though invisible you have a good idea of what they’re going to do, and where they’re going to be. If you see one coming it’s not hard to time their attacks, or at the very least be ready to fire an appropriate skill the moment you see damage. Illusionary counter is a good way to intercept a heartseeker or the like.

2) If a thief insists on going invisible, and skirting around, or trying to run away, keep your illusions up and scattered around. The moment the thief’s invis ends they’ll attack immediatly. This also helps cull the rendering issues, especially against thieves who are aware of them and try to use them to their advantage.

Thieves were an initial annoyance for me in terms of classes I found challenging. They’ve fallen way down the list now. Unless I come up against a thief gank squad, I don’t fret.

Oh, one other helpfull tool: Moa. If you see a thief start spinning around like a children’s toy, turn him into a giant chicken for his troubles. Thieves love to pull this one out, so it only serves you well to turn him on his head.

Man, I love it when I see a thief start spinning. Makes them stand out like a giant red flag, then I just turn them into a giant bird and everyone chows down on chicken

Badges of Honor

I don’t know the formula but there do seem to be certain play styles or approaches which are more rewarding than others. That’s great, there’s nothing wrong with that, let’s all play to win. So if you’re after badges here’s one way to maximise your play: Get a group going, head to an enemy borderland- especially when they’re fully owned by the enemy, and run supply/camp strikes. Not only is it a valid form of play but you also have the joy of skirmishing with enemy players/groups you come across, good badge drops from them, badge drops from camp NPC’s, and if you are greatly outnumbered the buff helps to get better loot. If badges are your goal then play to optimise success.

Other tips I have noticed: Be the first to strike an opponent (in a zerg), deal a decent amount of the damage against said opponent, and dont expect to much if you start hitting them below 50% health. Again I don’t know the mechanic, but there seems something to these points.

It’s not so much a matter of if siege can be hit or not, but what with. Think of it in terms of cost/benefit. Currently there is a cost in setting up siege- time, coin, jpuzzle hassle, supply, etc. There is no cost in spending a bit of renuable health and skills at a wall. One solution is to find the balance in the cost. So, with the exception of melee hits for example, you might have siege only be damageable by opposing siege. Maybe not entirely practical off the cuff, but its something.

Let’s not forget that defending a position is horrible in most places. Nothing is safe up on the walls. AoE can take out all your carts and balista, and men cant fire down well without jumping up on the edges. You don’t want to do that though because you’ll be pulled off just as quickly
