1) Absorb hits (you stay stacked and tight for a reason, mitigation)
2) Dish out hits (concentrated DPS generates downs)
3) Follow your commanders calls, mostly when he shouts for you to dump your CC
4) Don’t go down
5) Be on comms

Mobility will be a problem but I can see what you’re going for. You’re a few seasons to late to get on Arms. When the meta was more bunker heavy (and less outgoing damage) you could work with it. Now it won’t take you as far. I’ve been running berserker rifle/gs with disc in place of arms and gone into platinum. With arms, rifle war was heavily under performing this season.

Keeping the same theme, I’m going to suggest these changes. Though Pack runes would be a solid alternative for that swiftness and fury. Lynx just gives you that 25% move buff but stronger offensive stats over Travelers. Personally I’d run pack.

I don’t see the OP as bashing non-english speakers. If anything he’s taking exception with Anet. Let’s be honest, it’s their game, they make the grand decisions that effect players everywhere, and the OP is just one customer with a customer concern. There’s a reason why online MMO’s (and other games) have language specified servers.

Is that to say there’s a fix? Nope. Might as well get over it. And let’s face it, 32 million (14%) of american adults can’t read. Hell, from what I deduce from map chat pretty much everyone is illiterate XD

Possible solution: Matchmaking puts all queue’d DH’s into the same match for 5v5 DH showdowns. Queue times 15 seconds.

More so, you are implying IP is broken because thief invests into damage instead of picking more survival? Should i remind you on things like DH traps, that deal more than IP damage to EVERYONE, not a single target like IP. Same goes for necro marks etc. Sry but in grand picture 3k single target damage dealt by glass canon is hardly broken.

When combined with 500 with Headshot and other 2k from the sigl of air/fire + beeing ranged that punish evey1 even for moving , then there something wrong

And guess what almost all classes currently have an over abundance of counters to the Interrupts and the Headshot projectile, almost all Meta Build puke out Stability, Aegis/Blocks/Projectile Hate, all on relatively low CD. Maybe they should Shave those down a lot if they are gonna nerf PI.

Exactly. See, this guy gets it. While you have to wait around some circumstances to use Headshot, what’s really OP is the unblockable (bas venom), insta cast, non-LoS, teleport, boon stripping Steal. Of course Steal and Headshot are hardly the only options a thief has.

Complaining now about a 40 sec single target 1 charge Cc that does no damage by itself, that the charge gets wasted if someone uses a Dodge, or if Thief gets blinded(which there is an abundance of) or if it gets obstructed, which FYI happens a lot to Steal even on perfectly flat ground, so no damage and no cc happen? You want to see the epitome of Unblockable CC? Look at Warrior 6 seconds all attacks are unblockable, and they can keep the Cc up while all their Cc skills except one does more damage than PI w/Headshot.

How about a 20s steal that rips stability and applies a daze after. Insta cast, no animation, no need for LoS, teleports, etc etc.

See, what you obviously don’t understand is how different classes with different mechanics mean different thing when it comes to balance. So 6 seconds of unblockable attacks might seem crazy if, say, you’re a thief. But on a warrior at the cost of a utility spot, it’s not unreasonable at all. In fact the devs are so confident of it being on a warrior they actually give war the potential to double access (traited) on a 20s CD each. Because while it’s strong for a warrior to be able to pressure a target who wants to sit behind a block all of a sudden, it’s certainly not over powered considering- warrior. Nice strawman though, maybe try again.

To be clear: I’ve not targeted PI specifically at all. But I’m happy to continually point out how Thief ini system and their overall mechanics are, and have always been broken. If anything we should be thankful for the changes to the game that have left them in the somewhat troublesome (more a slight annoyance for them really than any actual problem) position they’re in. They’ve certainly always been able to take extreme advantage in this game, and still do.

Ini system is still there. Mechanics still haven’t changed.

That’s because it was so easy to play one of the unkillable bunker setups that even the worst of the worst players could survive indefinitely.

Typically I know what to expect when there’s a warrior on the enemy team. Condi war with his mace/shield etc.

They’re pretty easy. You don’t want to come at them with condi. Just hit them with raw power. It’s a pretty simple game. Knock them down to 50% health, proc the endure trait. Whail on them some more, forcing them to proc endure off the bar. They’ve got two dodges and a shield, so when blocking be sure to use your unblockable. Kiting is great as they’re usualy melee range solid. I’m smart, so I run a ranged option. The only other thing you have to know is to use your dodges/evades for when they move in close to fire a skill, preferably a burst skill. When they enter berserk, kite/evade, then engage once it’s down unless you know you can hammer them down during it if both endures are already gone.

If you do nerf warriors damage it’s gg for them because in a post HoT world, all other classes have either to much evade, to many blocks, to many invulns, to much mobility, or to much healing, regeneration, and sustain to just shrug off and out replenish a wars DPS. It takes an insane amount of your kitten hitting right now as it is just to produce a result. And you better hope enough of that kitten does hit before your stances run out because after that you’re dead meat.

Every season now (and I only play seasons) I seem to play a counter meta build (on mes or war) to see how high it will go, and/or until I get bored. Now that Interrupt Mesmer can’t function in the post HoT era, Rifle on Warrior is the only thing that gives me any interest in this game. And if the rest of the family weren’t using the PS4, I’d not be playing at all XD.

So this season placed in G1. Won a couple matches into Platinum 3. Went on a massive loosing streak to the bottom of G3. Decided my build needed a tweak as the meta had shifted slightly, and decided I needed to retrain myself how to conquest since I hadn’t played at all since sometime during S4. IMMEDIATELY I began winning and climbed right back up into Platinum, which subsequently is about the time I began getting bored/played out. My win rate on warrior has been increasing, and my average for this season over 50%.

I didnt mind the losses because I know I win more than I lose. My point gain has always increased, though it seems closer to leveling out now at the start of plat. I havent put in enough games to see how far into plat Id go. All this aside, since I play roaming DPS, murdering the enemy team always provided satisfaction no matter the outcome.

Oh and as for bad players, on the rare occasion you just have to tell it like it is

Funny how thief is allowed to use an elite to stomp (as well as other professions use stab, stealth, cc’s etc.) But Mesmers aren’t. (Timewarp)

What the hell are you talking about ? don’t you have distortion on demand to safe stomp ? It’s more broken than impact strike, which is a telegraphed 3 parts stomp. Impact strike can be interrupted, blinded, countered by stealth, launch, pull. Tell me how you counter a distortion stomp except fast rez ?

Stealth, or Ranger down pull. Necro too for that matter (move the target away from the stomper).

With how bullkitten res speed (still) is, you need a free invuln stomp just to kill any downs. Even then, that res speed > invuln stomp XD

  • Getting a good interrupt with a thief means reading the animations, learning the other class mechanics. Shouldn’t that work be rewarded ? Punishing a necro spamming AA on scepter is a side effect. d/p thief is more or less not allowed to AA in a team fight because of AOE spam and squishiness. Is it a bad design to have an inverse mirror situation for other classes ?

This thread continually takes me back. These arguments. This one for example is the exact same one that came up because of how thieves SPAM their AA for massive damage an no ill effect. The problem? Power Block on Mesmer was being used to counter that with interrupt damage and putting the spam on CD. Tsk Tsk.

Of course we all know that interrupts are largely useless against thieves unlike everybody else. Why? So much insta cast, insta teleport, engaging from LoS, not to mention stealth etc etc.

It’s hilarious to see thieves now trying to defend their kitten against people telling them this exact same thing is out of hand.

I believe it was the cool down increase part that was removed from auto attacks and it wasn’t just thieves that were affected or complained. I’m pretty sure you can proc the damage part of power block and weakness from autos. Having said that power blocks damage needs power, precision and ferocity while I’d only requires power to do similar damage.

True, the damage is still there. But the arguments in this thread are the same. The true difference is (wait for it, it’s the same kitten since release!) Thief initiative system, skill spam, Steal feature overloading, their unique mechanics! (insta cast, teleport, mobility, bla bla bla)

All honest GW2’rs know GW2 is horribly flawed from the company that owns it right down to the skills and minor traits on various professions. Now that interrupt mesmer is dead under the post HoT apocalypse, the only thing that keeps me mucking around on this game is killshot. And Killshot isn’t even viable anymore since core specs are a joke. Fortunately it’s ugly step cousin Gunflame shores up the gaps. This is all to say there was some beauty to GW2, but like a silicone valley-valley girl, the cosmetic surgery they did to try and extend it’s life and make more money off it turned it into a deformed mess XD

The Elite spec balance issue has been discussed since HoT, but as far as I know the devs have been silent on it. It’s weird because you know they must be reading these comments. They reply on other topics, and “HoT powercreep” has got to be the most common phrase on the forums. It kind of makes you wonder if it is really a conspiracy to sell expansions.

Dev’s have made specific comment regarding the HoT powercreep and their interest in reducing over the top features.

Will they do a decent job of it? That remains to be seen.

This is silly. The Thief is looking to interrupt. Therefor he’s waiting to fire only when his target is deciding to cast. If the target is casting he’s actively engaging in skill use. Mentally he’s committing to said action to the exclusion of all other actions. In otherwords, no player is waiting for a headshot animation to dodge it. It is only going to occur when they choose to cast, at which point they’ve committed to not dodging!

Your assertion that they can dodge it, while true, is blatantly ridiculous given the whole purpose of headshot and PI to begin with. Because what’s possible isn’t the same as what’s reasonable.

For the record, damage on interrupt isnt necessarily bad (see Mesmer). It’s only bad on thief. Why? Same as all thief complaints from the dawning of time, initiative system and spammable skill use etc etc. Dumbdumbdumbdumbdumb.

They have a choice interrupt there Spell cast and not eat damage by dodging or eat damage and still not get the skill off, hmm choices a player should always constantly evaluate what is best in the situation. Counterplay is still counterplay. It would be stupid not to self interrupt and avoid the damage then to eat the damage and still not get the Spell off.

This is moronic. The obvious best choice in your scenario is to not cast at all, ever. The mathcup in relation to thief is the problem simply because the thiefs access to his interrupt counter is without end, and without counterplay. Headshot’s also the least of the problem skills since Thief has far more access to interrupts than just that.

Anyway, it’s pretty clear you have very little understanding of interrupt gameplay, and how on thief it turns a basic counter element into a ridiculous feature once PI is introduced. I’ll say again, when we compare it to Power Block on Mesmer, there’s no problem. Why? General class balance in things like trait line investment, access to cc’s, relevant CD’s of those skills, overall class mechanics etc.

I honestly think OP is mostly stuck up on the light purple theme of most of our attacks and artwork more than anything else. Because if you look at the name it isn’t all cute and fancy

I’ve had a game where our team had an issue with home getting decapped/capped. My team wasnt watching/holding it properly so I relegated myself to home to make sure we’d hold it. The rest of the team could function at mid without further assistance, and rotate around the rest of the map once I’d done this. But because of this I got no top stats. If I hadnt done this we’d of crashed and burned and lost. It was my decision and capability on home that carried that team. Yet under your system some other dooshbag who couldnt watch the map would get more points than me instead.

Nope, better to just give me my points for my win, and you can begrudgingly take my points if the team looses.

That said, I have no problem with additional points for personal score generally speaking. The whole “carry” thing is bogus though.

I have good news and bad news.

This example is an extreme case so it is not screwing over everybody. There were multiple people that failed to ready up, which meant multiple rounds of substitutes were needed.

Bad news. Teams are not rebalanced after finding substitutes and it has been that way for years. There are complicated computer-science reasons why, but it is solvable and I will attempt to fix it. In this case since it happened multiple times, it compounded the inaccuracies.

I’ve got a question. Running Rifle/GS Zerker Berserker this season, at 1600 and climbing atm (I’m looking to see where rifle/gs caps out). Mesmer main otherwise.

Anyway

  • Scenario: The fight has been toe to toe, both teams have scored a couple hundred points each. Then for whatever reason the other team manages to overcome/outplay your team across the map, wiping the team fight, and killing or forcing a disengage on any/all side nodes. The team needs to regroup/restart, what’s the best strategy at this point?

Ok, let’s get a few things out there. This thread is ok — it could actually be really valuable to those who participate in it on a reasonable level. I see it as an honest attempt by a good player to offer help to other players. Having said that, let’s keep the tone relatively respectful and — as I’ve said before — save the overt aggression for the battleground.

A few of you were concerned about the use of the term “pleb.” It’s not the greatest term, but I seem to remember when newbie/noob/n00b was considered the height of insult and it’s now commonplace and pretty acceptable across the board.

The ground rule is this:

  • A generic reference = ok. Example: “The average pleb will…”
  • A direct referral to another player as a pleb = not ok. “You’re a pleb.” “You play like a pleb.” “Your socks carry the unmistakable odor of plebism.”
  • Other types of insults aren’t good, either.

If you’re going to report, look at what’s being said. If you’re going to try an attack or a counter attack, may I politely introduce you to your choice of PvP modes rather than doing it on the forums?

Is the dishonor related to the bug where you ran the timer out? Only in this instance the game ended 8 seconds from a time out.

This morning I logged in and tried to queue only for the game to tell me I had to restart because there was an update (bad timing). Updated, got back in and queued. Got a match. Then with all but 1 person ticked to start the client crashes, and the login server goes down.

I don’t know if the game even started but eventually I restart, get connection, and log in. I enter into a match late, 100+ points behind the enemy. We lose (though we could have won) and I get dishonor. So you’re suggesting I should be punished because of Anet’s failings?

Another time a match starts and we’re fighting away at mid. Things are going well when my wife calls out from the other room. I get focused and end up going down. At this point I decide I’ll go respond because I’m fairly certain she wants a bit o some’nsome’n ifyaknowwhatimean;D. Long story short I took dishonor, my team lost nothing because of desertion, and while I took a double hit it was well worth it. Why? Because as someone said, this is a game, and there’s far more important things going on in peoples lives sometimes. You just have to prioritize. One day when you grow up you’ll come to understand that :)

I like your idea though that DC time should include pre-idle time.

Climbing out of bronze

Only getting 24 – 26 points for a win. Its going to take ages to get out of Bronze.

I’m just shy of gold 2 and getting 11-12 for a win but 14-15 for a loss.

At best I break even if I go win-loss every two games. At worst I have to win 3 (if I’m lucky) for every 2 losses just to tread water.

This is the soft wall I’m running up against and really killed my motivation for doing more than the one required ranked match every couple of days to prevent decay (for whatever that’s worth)

I came out of placement at the top of gold. I then moved into the bottom of platinum, then plummeted with pretty much back to back losses all the way to the bottom of gold. By this stage I had to question what was going wrong, but could also sense the slight (though unapparent at first) shift in the meta. So I adjusted my build first off, then acknowledged that my time away from the game had lead to me forgetting how to conquest properly. After a mental check of what I should be doing and how I should be rotating, I instantly turned the game around and began climbing. Now back in gold 3 and still climbing toward platinum.

The two questions I’d suggest you ask are,

  • Has my build capped out at it’s potential in the ladder?
    and
  • What am I doing wrong in conquest?

FYI, I’m playing rifle/gs power warrior. I know my build will cap out at some point vs experiences players running meta builds. It’s not quite there yet, and my interest in playing is seeing where that is.

everytime i go to watch sin or hesleth or drazeh streams people always start talking about how pro eu is and how they dont have these issues. its nice to see it happening there too. maybe itll finally get support to change how it works instead of people just bashing NA constantly.

My recent mental state aside, I swear the last handful of times I’ve qued un-ranked I haven’t even seen the option for coliseum. I would think it’s still in rotation but it appears to no longer be pinned!

Yes, matches are deliberately stacked. Here’s 10 of my nearly 20 games today.

That’s an average margin of just over 231 points. It’s abundantly clear that I’m being sent out just as cannon fodder.

I understand the desire to lessen queue times, but I don’t appreciate appearing to be a designated loser. I am not being matched to my skill level at all.

Ooo, I love playing the post your matches game! I suggest posting it from https://gw2efficiency.com/account/pvp because it now also shows how many points you won/loss! This gives greater indication to the team matchup. Note in mine I got a sweet +18 point win. I assume that’s because my team was facing Caed and Zeromis or something. But I’m confused, which of who was being sent out as cannon fodder in this match? o.O

Also something needs to be done about the clone spam.

Give Phantasms 50% damage reduction vs aoe and cleave, and only take 100% damage when focused. Reduce all attacks and condi ticks on Clones to 0 (so they cant be killed, yet can be hit). Then remove clone generating traits such as DE and Illusionary Reversion. Thus the dependency on these silly traits is gone, and all clone generating is time gates to weapon (and utility) skill CD’s. The potentcy of shatters, or the timing thereof, is thus limited to clone generation (or lack thereof), and propper balancing of these skills, and mesmer damage sources can easily be balanced.

PvP wise, i would agree and even say axe is trash. I tried running axe/shield but mace simply does more damage and im running zerker ammy so whats even the point of it?

I then tried axe off hand and the 5 skill simply doesnt do enough damage to anything to be useful. I believe the 4 skill is a double axe come down where it gives fury but the range is like 130 and is frustrating to hit when everyone moves so fast now.

Also the rifle is a meh weapon in PvP. As someone who has been playing ele mostly in the ranked system. Its almost laughable when a warrior brings rifle, you have magnetic aura on warhorn/staff/focus. You have a shout to give it to team mates. A overload with stability to give to team mates and a Elite shout to give it to team mates.

Ive only seen 2 rifle warriors against my team this season i both have killed themselves in the game as if im not watching them. I literally run to who ever they are targeting and give the auras and wait for them to switch weapons.

Rifle imo is was better in S3 and was really its only usable time for good level PvP.

I love facing eles with my rifle. They expect to be able to hide behind their projectile hate, but sig of might shuts down those dreams. Then, they’re silly thinking rifle is fully ranged. You then smack them with rifle butt, knocking them off point, then slap them with rifle 4 to imob them there. The point decaps, and they’re instantly a wasted space on the opposing team.

You’re also forcing their hand too. Oh, that kitten has brought a rifle, now I HAVE to swap to my projectile hate, and kitten that damage is hurting, well there goes all my invulns. Before that ele’s are having the time of their life, pursuing their dreams, using the skills they want to use. Then the kitteng warrior shows up and kittens all over them. It’s great! :D

If you are a bad ele yes but no there is absouletly no real reason to lose to a warrior in a 1 vs 1

“lose”, at worst it ends up a stalemate with the ele running around his decaped point. Which in conquest is a win if you missed it ;D

Ross it’s role and playstyle are not at all like the Chronophantasma. There are too many things I can do that ChronoP can’t and vice-versa. I feel like I’ve already explained this suffieciently. So people who say otherwise either haven’t read or don’t get it. But w/e. They people I spvp with regularly tell me It doesn’t feel like playing alongside a meta mesmer. I don’t make the same choices in the match (rotation, targeting, disengaging etc). But like I just said, either you haven’t read or you don’t understand.

So, better at same job? duh the answer is no. But I don’t do the same job. omg I’m the one playing it so I know i’m not rolling around acting like a sub-par-set-up Meta.

I love how you say “I look at your build I see a condi chono mesmer, albiet non-meta variant…..your’e just playing meta condi” How are all you people saying it’s meta but then ALSO saying it’s not meta? I just don’t get it. reasoning with you guys is like reasoning with a 4yr old that “knows” a wrong fact. oh well. glhf out there.

Don’t listen to them, anything that has condi is considered meta. for example i will post my own build, which is unique in its way and has its own playstyle fitted to my needs and i BET you, people will say its just the metabuild.

Implement voice comms in PvP and 5 randoms instanly become a communicating team.

Even if only 1 of the 5 has a mic.

at the beginning of the season (NA) a guy i qued with in high gold gave our team a discord link. 2 of us instantly got on making us a 3 man premade.we dominated the game. he had been doing that every game and that was his 10th win. communication is key here guys. hes probably legendary by now.

It doesnt matter the game. The ability for players to make call outs and share information about what’s going on has a dramatic impact on the outcome of the game. Ele’s low, Thief needs peeling, Warrior’s endures are both on cd, mesmer inc home, 4 inc mid, I’m about to go down, etc etc. If you’ve ever used comms you know the difference it makes.
