You could simply read the skill tool tips and apply some basic logic and see everything I just said for yourself…
That’d require logging in. Which I haven’t done in weeks. Things like Rev ruined this game ;D
There’s just more fun to be had out there in the gaming world given the state of this game now :D

I focused only on the detailed ideas. But you had a very solid concept, and I would not be surprised that a-net’s design will eventually reach something similar.

Disappointed with the balance team on this patch. I was hoping for a nice shake up of the meta that would promote skillful game play. Now it’s going to take some time for the meta to shake out, but I don’t see enough changes to include the weaker classes from last season.
Now I could be wrong, especially at the pro level, but a normal season is going to be more of the same.
Whats pro team are you on,again?
I didn’t realize Anet’s PR rep was Kermit the Frog. Awesome.
. Regardless which is used, it means we have to waste a very situational utility just to pull off a heal.
Welcome to healing as a Mesmer since release. I guess it’s time to upskill.
They reduced healing on purification, lowered daze duration on traps, increased cd of hunter’s determination n and reduced shield of courage from 5 to 4s. What else do you want?
They removed gyro daze completely.
Let’s start by removing DH trap daze too
;D
Start? DH nerfs have been constant since october of last year. I think its safe to say the complaints will never stop unlesss anet deletes the class.
Also, sour grapes.
Those nerfs were a false start. Now we’re ready to be serious, remove the daze.
Also stop being over dramatic. The only class that needs deleting is Rev, duh.

The “Holy Trinity” was tried with the Ele buffs on auramancer. It worked well but the crying could be heard all the way in Abu Dhabi.
A similar outcry in WvW looks to be setting up for a crush nerf to Mesmer.
This is the internet.
For Abu Dhabi players, Abu Dhabi isnt far away. At all.
Also what do you have against Abu Dhabi players? You seem to be singling them out as particularly tearful players. Which I also find deep irony in.
;D

Oh, my bad. This shows my absolute lack of knowledge about fractals.
It’s ok. It’s PvE. You’re not expected to fill your mind with trash (even if millions of people willingly watch things like reality TV every day) XD
Mine’s still the best.
New weapons/elite specs will not bring anything new to GW2.
Without a rework to classes and the way we build, it’ll be same old same old.
MH pistol = susceptible from all the projectile hate, no?
Naturally the second expansion will come with a trait that makes all projectiles unblockables.
Also any projectile that would have otherwise been reflected will deal double damage.
Wow.
The definition of “wall of text”.
I found it.
It’s not really a wall of text. It’s just a run on sentence.
iAvenger deals damage aswell.
Still can’t believe it’s intended though.
There are reasons for this. Just as a general rule, things that attack need to deal damage for things like stealth debuffs etc.
I still wonder if this is intended or a bug, because to me it’s more like a bug that the shield #4 is the only phantasm that can be dodged. I hope they “fix” this eventually
All of the phantasms can be dodged if the enemy times it right, actually. The thing is that the shield phantasm has a really big tell, so people can more easily judge when to dodge. Other phantasm skills are faster-acting (or at least don’t give forewarning in the form of a purple bubble) so they’re harder to predict.
Incorrect. No phantasm skill other than the shield can be dodged.
Why would they only make one phantasm evadable? That seems silly.
The way you say that implies that they did this on purpose. What most likely happened is that whoever coded up the skill just didn’t know they were supposed to make it unevadeable or didn’t know how.
Right. Shield 4 is unique in that it has a double cast. It’s pretty obvious the coder messed it up. There’s no reason why a pointless phantasm shouldn’t summon XD
You have a single option
- Power shatter
You have one way to overcome your dodge problem
- Get better
If trends are anything to go by, we should be given either a MH melee weapon with epic level AoE plus CC on every skill, including every AA, or a two hander that amounts to the same thing. Every melee skill will be instant cast, and have 1200 range to boot. The elite will make gravity well look like a childs toy, and the utilities… well they’ll never replace portal and blink XD
Because.. expansions and stuff.
Anet killed GW2 and they’ll never revive it.

Blind. Negating the next attack of the enemy who gets inflicted with it. Available for necromancers/reapers.
So basically, saying that necromancer doesn’t have any mechanic to negate attacks is false.
To add a minor but relevant distinction:
Blind is negated by Resistance (Which war in particular has in spades). It can also be cleared with insta cast clears while channeling bursts.
Block is not dependent on the targets condition.
I still wonder if this is intended or a bug, because to me it’s more like a bug that the shield #4 is the only phantasm that can be dodged. I hope they “fix” this eventually
bit its also the only phantasm which can proc twice
Yes, but it’s also the only phantasm that has no offensive ability.
If you remember when Robert (or whoever it was) was designing it, this was stated as such- “You get double, but it’s purpose is utility and not damage”. Thus two summons assuming you “land” it all.
Besides the utility phantasms, iMage and iWarden are arguably for utility and not damage aswell, hm. I mean the iAvenger does still deal okish damage, only the cd is long but can be skipped with a shatter, the damage is also aoe.
So I’d still consider it a bug then.
But the iMage and iWarden DO deal damage.
It’s not so much a bug. It’s closer to an unintended feature.
But like nearly everything concerning HoT specs, it is difficult to understand why they are so strong.
Because they needed to make them strong enough that people would use them actively. Otherwise they would end up like the old virtues (and a number of classes signets) and just never be used as to not put the passive on cd.
Then nerf the passives to the point it’s crazy NOT to use the actives
Or like Ranger’s Raygun of a pet? That 7k damaging AI skill has no warning and 3x more dangerous than some unblockable pull.
.The bristleback’s F2 has an obvious tell, if you didn’t see the little turtle thing rear up on its hind legs before firing spikes at you that’s not the game’s problem.
Actually you could fairly easily, legitimately argue that the game is at fault, since the pets position is not related to the Druids. Therefor the druid can be placed as such that, while focusing on him, the pet can sit outside your field of view and do as it pleases. In fact, the druid can create this effect by design.
Furthermore human beings have limitations themselves, seeing as you need to focus on the target you’re engaging to both land offensively, and react defensively (on the druid), the druid can freely cast F2 without tell/animation. In other words the Druid is a big distraction so yes, it is that easy to miss the “obvious tell” of something you’re not reading or even able to see.
XD
Nice try though!
It begs the question:
Is the balled faced “trolling” really trolling? Or is the lie of an orchestrated post sport interview the true troll?
It makes you wonder how much, or how little, our society really does appreciate honesty. “Sportsmanship” could very well be the dirty word here, making your expectations just another part of the theater.
:D
By “exploit” I mean farming easy wins against solos with an organized team. This is also probably worthy of being called “trolling.”
Oh, so they’re playing within the confines of the game and not actually doing anything wrong what so ever.
This is also called Playing to Win.
It’s decent rhetoric though!
It’s called trolling when it’s organized teams stomping PUGs for amusement and profit.
Trolling is a willful act so I’m curious how you divine others intentions (unless they explicitly state that’s what they’re doing). Winning is profit, but why you’d fault people for wanting to win is beyond reason.
So I’m not seeing any genuine exploitation in your argument.

Also,
Why is Anet so shapest? Sure, we’ve seen some progression since HoT with the introduction of rectangular AoE (Warrior LB burst skill for example), but PvP is behind in the times, still favoring the dominant single sided circle. Would it be so terrible to have a square somewhere? Or perhaps a triangle to mix up the diversity of fights a little? You can bet if Sesame Street had the same one shape bias in it’s show the way GW2 does, there’d be hell to pay!

I know I can still try to avoid the F1 spear throw in the first place. But if you ever get hit by the first part of F1 skill, you seem to be completely at DH’s mercy.
The second pull part is unblockable and unevadeable. During the whole time being attached to the spear, the only option is using an invulnerable skill. The DH can then use LB2 or some other hard hitting skill to bait out your dodge and then interrupt it by the pull and then chain together some other powerful attacks.
There are quite a few other pull skills in the game and they are all evadeable. I don’t understand why this skill has to be this extra strong.
-1) every profession has way to play around the pull
-teleport out from the traps
-stability
-invulnerability-2) everybody can save a dodge and use it the second they get pulled in
-3) everybody can LoS the DH trying to use the pull, he won’t be able to pull you over from a lower level or from behind an obstacle
Not everything must be A to B gameplay…..
Depending on the trap you’ll die if you teleport out. Meaning you have to burn both an invuln or channeled evade skill AND use a teleport. And good luck activating a skill if you’ve been dazed/stunned/cc’d.
Oh, and it’s a good thing capture points are covered with obstacles to LoS behind.
oh wait….
XD
We need solo queue back. This would mitigate a lot of the farming and exploiting.
@OP that was season 2 and 3. We have been told that S4 is trying for even matches with similar skill levels on both sides. Most of my loss streaks ( 68 + at one point ) came partly because I was too kittened off and too tired.
What is your definition of exploit?
Your interrupt build needs adjusting.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQNAW8encfClph1oBmqBEgilZjqOX/1hFd4ipioMAqtcD-TJRHwAAeCABuIAm3fAZZAA
Domination offers less than dueling with mistrust. You don’t need your dazes to be stuns, you just need the interrupts. Null Field makes for a stronger team presence, and makes for amazing CS aoe combo bursts. Blinds, confusion on blinds. You also have other amulet options (Rabid + Undead). The crit chance from that option also lends itself to better bleeds from clones (great when kiting to wait for CD’s/burst) and grants you vigor under Duelling (dodges are good).
Yes of course its too strong. Needs to be blockable, have a shorter range, and better animation tell.
It should be melee range to land, the purpose being to pull back in targets trying to flee.
Second half should be dodgable, evadable, blockable, fail to LoS, and catch all those terrain bugs
DH is unevadable.
…he’ll always hit you with something
;D
Hey everyone,
This has come up before and I thought I would give some insight as to why the capture points are the way they are. When we look at the data we have for capture points, we notice that fights on bigger capture points tend to run much longer than capture points that are smaller. It makes sense, when players are able to use skills to guarantee hits on players that are on point, instead of the missing players that are on point but running around the outskirts of the point. This means on smaller cap points players will need to weigh the risk of being on the point and know when you need to rotate out.
Question time:
How do we like smaller capture points knowing that they reinforce fights coming to an end?
Would you change the mid point to be larger?
Would you change the side points to be larger?
- If you had a map with 3 large capture points, fights might run longer, but every moment of play would have to be full skill for all combatants. (as opposed to hits “just landing” because everyone is forced into a smaller point).
- Also, it puts all classes closer to an equal footing. Some classes can sit in their spot and tank everything (DH’s, Certain War setups, Druids, etc). Other classes require kiting and duking (Mesmers, Thieves, certain war setups, etc). BY DESIGN certain classes need room to move around and breath.
- I’d recommend the square capture point in the NE corner that appeared in the WvW Alpine Borderland map when the lake was removed and replaced with the new map buff mechanic.
- As a bonus point, I’d love a map with an alternative mechanic. You don’t capture a point via tick, but it’ll instantly tick points whenever a member of a team is on it. As soon as it’s contested it stops ticking, but at least one person has to stay on the point to garner points. This would change how conquest plays out in terms of builds, rotations, and general strategy. More variety like this would be welcomed.

Amazing. Best article i’ve read in a while. The last one is my favorite.
When you start to get salty remember: “you’re sitting on your couch playing make believe with a bunch of strangers”

Rev- Overpowered, face roll, brain dead class since day 1

Good first step to rebalancing the HoT powercreep blowout- delete rev from game.
The trick is to not listen to Helseth.

I disagree. Not juvenile. Not hate. Certainly a measure of jest. But mostly a large measure of truth

Yes, the DPS build that needs nerfing. Nothing should hit that hard with PvP stats. When thieves can’t hit as hard, that’s out of balance.
And yet a good thief will tear it to pieces, based purely on mechanical ability.
Hitting hard is what it does. Outside of that it can run into some real problems.
what
git gud
it heals like next to nothing. are you also the kind of person to complain about druids being “~~~OP~~~” when you can’t dodge a pet attack?
I love how the OP didn’t mention druid, yet the first response jumps to their defense.
It’s almost as if you’re insecure about a known problem or something XD

Congrats to denial! I think it was a great tournament and was very exciting to watch. The thing that stood out to me was whenever someone died in a fight (usually the necro) there would almost always be a portal to the home point that the 4 remaining members took to regroup. That is a very different playstyle that I really didn’t expect.
This is because sustain/res power is to high, and the ability for classes to be in the comp to take down/eliminate opponents can’t exist.
It was almost kind of dumb watching it play out as a team deathmatch. You expect conquest to have fights focused on the points. Instead it was all off point fighting XD
Eu teams can scrim Na teams and viceversa cause they have free server migration, so not sure if this a decisive factor
Dat lag tho~
I have ~15mb download and 5 upload (pleb compared to fiber bois) and I can play without major problems in na servers, but maybe youre right, dunno
bandwidth <> latency….
It’s almost as if they host the world champs on LAN for a reason…
Hmnh…
In conclusion: The game was a lot more intentional in it’s design. It wasn’t perfect, and there were many areas that needed improving (particular weapons/traits/utilities/playstyles etc). But it wasnt the sort of spamfest kittenshow you have now
Host: “How was it?”
Helseth: “My view of GW2 has totally changed (Emphesis: For the better)”
Helseth: “It was easy.”
The Take Away
- When the game was hard, when Helseth lost, the game was trash
- When Helseth had an easy time, it’s the greatest game ever!
XD

HoT increased an over abundance of AoE CC.
But the increase in stability access, especially the ticking kind, is what’s truly over the top.
HoT ruined interrupt builds.
The CC you’re being hit by is spammed aoe cc. Or you’re like to play the classes without stability.
