1. Pets take 90% less damage and regenerate 1% (2% PvE) of their health every 2 seconds. All condition applied to pets are full-duration, although their damage is lowered by 90%. Movement-impairing conditions are of the same strenght, but reduced by 50% duration by default.

  • Targeted * When Pet is set as Target for Player/NPC it looses it’s damage reduction and health regeneration, gaining undispellable debuff “Targeted” visible as a small red icon above Pet’s portrait. During the debuff, all condition damage done by targeting foe is regular damage.
    Debuff lasts until the Pet is swapped, downed or distargeted.

Lemme just target the pet to nerf it instantly. Should be something like “Pet receives only 50% of incoming damage for 7 seconds when entering combat or swapped. Does not apply if swapping out a pet that has more than 25% health.”

2. Pet’s health value is now filling it’s portrait with red colour to top (100% health) from bottom (0% health). When pet is downed/being rezzed the colour is orange.

I’d personally like to have a bar that displays exact health so that I can time my swaps to the last second!

4. Old Pet’s health bar is now Symbiosis mechanic bar, charged with green colour. There are also 3 splits (25%,50%,75%) on bar for better visibility. Number of resource avalible is displayed on bar by default. The maximum value of Symbiosis is up to discuss, as the numbers are not yet tuned properly.

Why not just add a second bar?

5. Symbiosis abilities are no longer charged, they have one value for each weapon/F2.

Does that mean symbiosis expires when I swap weapons?

6. Using same Symbiosis ability more frequently than once ( every X seconds/not interrupted by using Pet’s/Player’s different Symbiosis ability – up for discussion ) for one weapon/pet enables debuff Exhaustion .

This assumes that the ability doesn’t have a cooldown and can be spamming

7. Exhaustion increases the resource cost of using same ability by X% and decreases Symbiosis generation by X% for X seconds/other condition (up to discussion).

  • X – unknown number, yet to be tuned.

Cleanse “Exhausted” by swapping?

8. Pet’s basic damage is further reduced, allowing AI designers to improve Pet’s attack connection without making it too strong.

No, please no. Try to improve the pet mechanic instead of compromising. It can be done through giving each new thing a consequence.

My suggestion for F1:
The F1 button toggles between red and green color. When it’s green, the next press will issue an attack command. When it’s green, the next press will issue a return command. The return command applies 3 seconds of evasion to the pet, with an ICD of 12 seconds. The attack command applies 5 seconds of swiftness, this shares the ICD with the return command’s bonus.

1.It doesn’t “nerf” the pet in any way. It just makes it accessible to kill if you want to focus it down. Doesn’t shave any of DPS or stats. Just the buff.

2. The numbers are still there. It’s only that now pet’s portrait instead of being just a graphic is also a visual information.

4. I want to keep UI as simple as possible. Two filling resources wouldn’t work as horizontal bars. Although, they could if wrapped into a visual similar to Demon Hunter’s from D3 – but it requires UI redesign.
I want to make it easier for ANet, mostly.

5. No. It means that different abilities require different amounts of the resource. Let’s say you have 20 points of it, weapon A requires only 9, when weapon B consumes 20. And you don’t lose the resource on weapon swap.

6. Technically, yes. My original though was that Symbiosis abilities require only resource to be activated and have no cooldown, besides GCD/cast time. They require different amounts though.

7. No, I think not.

8. My though with all this work was that Pet would be bound way more with player’s choices. Less autoattack damage, but more emphasis on using your F2 abilities for example, keeping the flow of Symbiosis generation, more clear counterplay.

Colors are always a good idea and make UI more clear. +1
As for evasion and swiftness – I believe that those would be just kind of bandaid. I went a little bit further, so I don’t consider half-measures in this thread, hope you understand. Good thoughts btw .

I prefer to use Staff instead Axe in a power build (WvW). has the double range, the AA has same damage, piercesand generates life force. And #2 is very easy to miss due direction and easy to dodge. Staff also have better utility.

The axe really needs to hit 3 foes on AA or/and a range increase.

Axe is only 3 skills when Staff has 5. Keep it in mind.

I’d honestly argue if Axe paired with Warhorn/Dagger doesn’t bring equal effectivness as Staff or ever go over that.

You would only choose between two avalible F2 abilities for every pet.

It’s not really that different from switching utilities. Most of the time, you don’t know what your enemy carries on his bar.

I believe GW2 doesn’t aspire to be strict esport like MOBA, heck, it’s not even possible. Besides, F2 would be used way more often than F3 abilities for example, so not knowing which one is it wouldn’t hurt that much for the first time.

Now, “Pimp My Pet” isn’t so necessary. But I like some customization. Currently we have tons of “pet” traits scattered around trait lines. I’d like them in one place, as pet traits and open up space for other traits. Currently, many feel about specific “pet traits” as bad just because they take precious slot place. Separated from the player however, different story.
Players also do ask for more “stat choosing/sharing” for pets. Without some kinds of avalible stat influence, some pet will always be lacking.

Keep in mind,

Most mechanically intensive (i.e. click, click, click, click much much) does not mean taking most skill to play.

Less jack-of-all-trades you are, more you have to focus on things like managing cooldowns and positioning.

That’s why Enginner or Elementalist, while they have many buttons, are not more skillful than other professions to me.

It would be probably on par with Healing Turrent, Ele’s heal signet and Withdraw.

Which means it would be OP.

More than 400 hp/s without investment in healing power, even more Fury and condition removal, all in one. That would be some serious canoon.

But I would focus at Heal as One first. TU is still used by majority of better players.

Rune of the Trapper on Zerker?

On Zerker? No, not really. You need slots for offensive cds, defensive cds and much more. Traps require more patient play, you also use bonus from regular runes, like Traveler’s/Pack/whatever and without investement, traps do very little by themselves.

If you want stealth, picking up Siamoth would do the trick.

Don’t burst/unload conditions while they’re in water. Once they switch out of it, there’s your time to do damage for about 10 seconds.
Transfer conditions after chilled with icy breath (Water, once they swap out of it, will buy you more time) or after flame breath (Fire, once cast ends, will give you pressure).

Typical fotm d/d facerolls in this manner : Air→Fire→Earth→Water rinse repeat. Air and Water give best sustain, in Water they cleanse conditions.

Don’t be afraid of going toe2toe with D/D as a Power necro with dagger, too. Especially when they’re in water, fire or earth.

I run hybrid and yes, they’re quite powerful. However, it has problems with Mesmers (AI constantly eating your traps etc.) and more “ranged” specs in general (like other power rangers) since it’s not so easy to aim players to walk through your traps as it is on conquest pvp. Trapper runes with traps are brilliant against melee attackers, but have problem with “full cheese meta” on WvW sometimes.

Lenovo y510p, Black Screen and GW2

Hello there,

I’ve recently bought new laptop (Lenovo y510p) and I experience the well-known issue called “The Black Screen”. In short, after 5-10 minutes of play my screen turns black and goes back to the normal state once I tab back from windows screen. Then the problem continues, even more often.

I’ve tried reducing my graphic settings to lower, “suggested”, but that issue comes back.
Now I’ve tested few suggestions like turning off firewall settings, closing down firewall entirely, same for anti-viruses like Kaspersky, but I think the problem isn’t in internet connection. I tested it in two locations, on different internet providers/routers and it doesn’t solve much.

Now I’m not an expert on hardware, but my configuration (full spec in attachments) lets me play other games on ultra/very high settings, so I’m not entirely sure what’s the problem. My drivers are also updated etc.

Short config:

Intel HD Graphics 4600& nVIDIA GeForce GT 755m
Intel Core i7 4700MQ 2.40
8 GB Ram DDR3
Windows 8.1

You can cry about rangers all day but tournament meta shows the truth: almost no rangers, as usual. And even if you find one, it’s mostly Spirit or Eura.

Instead, you can see many “nerfed” warriors, “bugged” thieves, “high skill” engineers, “skillful” D/D eles, “oh, so poor” mesmers .

Almost no Rangers because its team meta is still Revolving around Close range combat.
of course in this one game mode Being Ranged isn’t as effective as Close Range melee because of said cap points.

but that for one does not mean Tol lables them as a Weakclass or the sorts.
just because the current game modes are not Suited for Ranged combat, as that sacrifices too much in that game mode to be effective.

in the end the people in these compositions choose to not use Rangers because of what i just said above , Using the Tol as a Lvl for what class is strong or weak isn’t a factor if other tpvp game modes are Present.

Euthanizing the Quaggan species?

I believe the quaggans were meant to be the equivalent of Warcraft’s Murlocks.

The thing is, while Murloc is a mascott of WoW it’s mostly just that. Sure, they return frequently as your enemies but they were never a part of some bigger plot. They’re famous of their specific sound (“Mrrgglllrll…”) and that they were usually huge pain in the kitten quite a while ago when leveling, because they tend to aggro in groups and approach you as a blob, same like SFR.

Now about Quaggans – the concept was nice. There’s some kind of fat Kanye West fish which is peaceful most of the time, but can turn into brute berserker when angry.

But as it’s been already stated, they’re waaay too one-sided. Quaggans are literally being portrayed as Tyria’s biggest fat “pus**es” – they’re just a useless mascott we’re carrying around for whatever reason. And, worst of all, they’re constantly involved in every single main story, together with Asura and Sylvari.

They really need to show the “other” side, get some claw. And we need more involvement of other “lesser” races like Ogres, Krait, Grawl, Hylek etc.

Anyone try this in spvp yet? I’ve been wanting to try a trapper build for awhile since the new runes came out.

Trapper runes are only avalible in PvE and WvW sadly ;/ .

As for Remorseless replacements – I find RtW to be only good option for this, PO doesn’t have enough uptime, really – Most of people you spot are very mobile, have stealth/huge -condition duration. RtW on the other hand is decent option since it makes your Hunter’s Shot more reliable.

As I said, this build is still “in progress” and I’ll be waiting patiently for some math-min-max genius to fix my stats a little bit, too .

By the way, Remorseless is often very underesitmated. That vun increasing your damage output lasts for 14 seconds, allowing you to cap the foe.

I’ve been also considering going for more Ferocity over Precision but I think that Sharpened Edges is really worth it. If you catch someone in Barrage, he often leaves it with 6-10 stacks of bleeding, similar to RF.

I was thinking about going for more condition removal at first, but suprisingly this build deals with them pretty brutally, even P/D Thieves and condi mesmer trolls.

What about full spec’ into Marks to pick up Remorseless? Opening Strike+Trap=AOE Vuln+Stealth… next pulse of the trap triggers Opening Strike again…

I’ve just done it .

As for Condition removal, with that high amount of super speed and stealth, you’re perfectly fine even against condi engineers and P/D thieves. And you just kite Necromancers to death.

I think Healing Power would be a wasted stat here, honestly. It hardly affects TU healing and I don’t have any other source of healing. Tbh, most of the times I find myself sitting around ~80% hp when fighting. You could take something with more toughness/vitality if you like since build is vunerable to CC lock and burst like full Shatter combo or such.

One tip I’ve learned : Unless you’re fighting ranged opponent with no AI, don’t place traps behind yourself/at feet. Spread them and lure foe into them. This way your stealth will last for longer and AI won’t eat the trap damage.

@Sube I don’t like Frost Trap. It’s longer cooldown, does no damage and with ground targeting I can place traps in a pattern which prevents them from triggering too early. As for PO, dunno. So far, I liked Vun because I have 140% duration on it, I’m not losing damage I think. But feel free to test it out!

I present you a build which I’ve been using recently when playing/having fun/duelling/roaming on WvWvW.

It’s a Hybrid build using new Trapper Runeset, Longbow, S+D and, yay yay – Remorseless Trait!

This is the “first stage” of the build as I’m not a min/max person, (I would be very happy if someone could optimize the stats etc. ) since I just grabbed all the stuff I had in bank etc. and basically put together.

Currently, Generosity sigil is replaced with Purity, because I didn’t have enough money at once. Major Master in MM can be changed to Eagle Eye, Spotter, Piercing Arrows, depending on situation.

Pets are not “optimized” either, I just like Cave Spider for most of the things and Owl for bursts (could take Siamoth for stealth, but dunno ^^).

That’s said, I got astonishing results from couple hours running this build. Sure, it’s vunerable to any form of chained CC/conditions, but if played patiently, oh boy…

I can stealth at the rate of D/P thief, maintain LOTS of vun on target, 2 stacks of torment, really high bleed damage, burning, CC,poison and tons of kiting.

I can also escape zergs thanks to Super Speed (<3) and stealth provided by traps, I can outrun “runners” in combat, kill almost anything 1vX if played right against regular WvW opponents…

It’s only my first day, but I believe that once I get even familiar, this build will be better predator than Thieves on WvW

With Axe, Bird/Feline pet and FBond you can be simply Mesmer’s worst nightmare. Since the patch, tons of Mesmers can be found in tpvp, spvp and wvw from my experience.

I quickly made some SotF/Celestial BM yesterday and ran it on duelling servers. Haven’t lost to any Mesmer, even as cheesiest as possible builds.

Simply, 25 mightstacked owl with permanent fury and swiftness can easily take 60% of their health in a single hit.

RtW is mandatory for sniping. Without it, on 1800 range, you won’t hit about 40% of your shots. Some may be very crucial like Hunter’s Shot, so people prefer to have this trait and stop missing shots. Also, 10% attack speed is so so like 10% damage increase when you stay on Longbow.

As for why Drakehound over Spider, I think I could answer – it’s personal preference.

Canines are very reliable. They use their knockdown once they enter the fight, so you can control it and it’s “hard” CC. They also have okeish stats, cripple (!), land their attack unless it’s a blinking Mesmer or Thief, have very good F2 (Hound’s F2 lets you not only to escape from some group, but also hold target in place for Barrage).

At the same time, Spider is a….gambling pet. Sometimes they decide to use Poison Cloud once spawned, sometimes Web. Sometimes they decide to use Cloud after you activate F2 and thus waste it unless target is stationary. Yes, they land more attacks and their immobilizes are painful, but they’re not as reliable. If Poison Cloud had some better pattern/anything and I could predict when spider launches the web, when cloud and when AA, I would use it more.

No. HaO is not the “meta” heal.

You say “meta” but for what ?

It really comes down to what do you want to do as a direct damage ranger, what is your team composition, are you building just for sniping the teamfights or you want to be more balanced and able to 1v1.

It can really vary.

You can also spawn Flesh Wurm, taunt him to follow you and once he gets near wurm, port back.

At this point Ranger is in trouble (unless your plan isn’t to place wells on him – Lreflex will get him out). Make sure to “walk” into him, it totally breaks all LB skills and can save you from Maul.
Most won’t escape. SotF Rangers can, but mostly thanks to wise usage of Sword.

Every racial is meant to be underpowered, mate. They can fill a lacking “niche” like Evasive Pistol for Necro, but in general they’re often “dead” skills nobody uses.

60s CD, 48s if traited.

Animation is good but Casting time is too short, probably 1sec or little more would be more balanced and would give you time to react.

With 3/4s is very fast.

In PVP is the Ranger festival and Entangle festival now.

Entangle + rapid fire if you don’t have a Block or Invulnerability you are basically dead.

And it’s a braindead combo.

Lol wut.

Or play a Thief/Mesmer who tend to ignore this skill .
