TOURNAMENT OF BUNKERS

My favorite thing about the tournament was seeing unorthodox stuff like the power necro and S/F ele who’s teams did relatively well overall.

The bunkers weren’t as fun to watch, but they serve a purpose in this game format.

Actually, I wouldn’t say that the power necro was build or played to it’s best. I saw very little planning ahead and combos. Also, staff which is no no for me on such builds, but personal preference.

They will change it similar to Torando, to not buff Wells.

That’s said, straight nerfing of AA is rather bad idea. This is powerful CD meant to turn the fights and make strong impact when it’s rather meh for 1v1 against better opponents. Teamfight tool/Anti Turret Bunker tool.

What I would like to see is rework of 2,4 and 5 skills.

Or if ANet decides that it’s too powerful, nerf it a bit, but shave cooldown to 90-120 seconds.

I’m not happy with CM’s comp either, but Guardian being not mandatory can be only a good thing. This game adviced itself as a game with no hard roles.

We haven’t seen many Rangers or Necros either. Still worse than over 95% of pvp scene running mandatory bunker guard, huh ?

I would much rather add some new, shiny emphasis to existing Tainted Shackles.

Like besides immobilize, it would also put special effect for couple seconds on targets affected by final strike:

a)Effect which inflicts X torment stacks for Y seconds whenever affected target removes condition.

b)Effect which heals and restores Life Force for every condition removed by affected target.

c)Effect which makes next utility/non-chain AA ability to fail, apply Torment and go on full cooldown. Unblockable.

I don’t think anything based on spirits will make a return in the near future.

There’s just too much point AoE pressure from Warriors and Elementalists, in future probably also from Mesmers. Spirits die very quickly, to be honest.

I would expect more trappers or semi-power builds with couple signets.

Other way around with spirits would be not to take trait “Spirits Unbound” and rather place them in some safe spot away from AoE fest during teamfights.

Mesmer needs help, i get it but buffing this cancerous condi build that they have? You are basically promoting no skill gameplay and if this build ever rolls into the meta, that is last nail in the coffin for your so called competitive play. WvW roaming will be deemed dead as well as all you will see is PU mesmers and P/D thieves ( you already see endless of this brain dead OP spec).

What cracks me up is how you PvP’ers think the game revolves around you. Mesmer has one spec that you can’t face roll, and you all start crying. Ever hear of a cleanse? Know how to use that skill? No, instead of thinking up a strategy to counter, you all start whining. The mesmer finally gets a buff, and the sky is falling.

Did you ever think that Condition Mesmer in PvE might need a buff, and this scepter change was much needed, so they can actually kill something? Sure, it’s doable now, but it takes forever. Did you ever think that your incessant whining about mesmer a is the reason Mesmers are nothing more than a support portal-bot in PvE? No, you don’t because all you care about is yourself.

It’s just yet another argument after splitting PvE and PvP/WvWvW.

There was a reason why skills were always being splitted in Guild Wars.

In current game, it can only go in two ways: Either half of skills will suck in one half of the game and rule in another or we just split them and make everything viable everywhere.

So far, they executed WvWvW roaming because there will be just nothing bout P/D thieves and scepter Mesmers trolling each other for hours.

Can be balanced easy because the number of unique conditions a necro can cause is limited,

Scepter/Dagger with Bone Fiend (or Flesh Wurm) and Spectral Wall on the bar, Dhuumfire for a trait.

One build capable of causing every condition in the game without RNG.

So yeah, the number of unique conditions a necro can apply is limited, but in this case, it’s because the game has no conditions that a necro can’t apply.

With a slight exception of Confusion, though Of course if we don’t count Perplexity runes or Corruption.

They could re-do scepter a little bit, similar to Warrior’s Sword.

For Chain attack, make it that it applies 1 bleed→poison→Feast of Corruption (balanced out) and add something else to Scepter #3. That would reduce the spam of autoattack condition stacking, increase LF gain and give us something shiny and new, with cooldown.

As for utilities… my little wishes:

- Cast time/cd of Flesh Wurm reduced. Blast and poison moved to initial caster’s position ?
-Spectral Grasp CD reduced by 5 seconds/projectile speeded up
-Spectrals now have ICD per target, up to 5?
-Master of Corruption getting some buff, like improving effects of all corruptions (CB corrupting all boons? BiP now also giving might to allies? Some buff to CPC and Epidemic ?). This could be valuable alternative to Terror.
-Siphoned Power rework?

You have monks. They’re called Guardians and still are almost necessary for any serious PvP match. Now they’re more tough, but with less healing, that’s it.

They’re as needed as in GW1.

Guardians are nothing like Monks. Nothing like them at all. It’s like saying a coconut is just like a kiwi.

It comes mostly to the role in group.

Imagine yourself on two lonely islands, starving.

On the first island, there’s a coconut. On the second, there’s a kiwi.

Does it matter that they taste differently? They’re both considered as food, something that you, as a person dying from starvation, need if you want to survive on that island.

Their role is necessary.

So is Guardian’s.

Theorycrafting a LB Dueling build

Have you even read the post? Intimidation Training is more than 100% uptime on cripple, with frequent re-applications. Only profession which is able to completly ignore your cripple is Thief.

And that’s the main concern. If S/D remains as strong with no changes to #2 on Sword, at least in PvP area duels, he will have nearly on-demand uptime on you, regardless of how much cripple you apply. This build applies 3 conditions total, Cripple will be applied after bleeding I think, so it won’t be covered.

I consider Intimidation Training to be superior to anything on WvWvW or in some new game mode which won’t be Conquest as we know, (from dev interview). But for Tpvp with blinking Thieves (which are pain in the a** for your pet to even hit) and tons of bunkers, I really don’t know…

Longbow Autoattack.

Thieves can be managed. I’d like Counterattack to be a reflect or immune to blind though. Would give us some proper tools.

From my experience it comes down to the Thief mostly. If he plays aggressive, you can catch him off guard/combo and down with pretty good chance. However, if he just constantly blinds you, pops out only for backstabs and stealths back once revealed is down, it’s very… boring, annoying and hard fight for even great direct damage ranger.

Last 4 professions in Friday's Skill Bar?

We will not be able to cram the last four into this friday’s skill bar. The segment for this week has already been edited and finalized, but the following skill bar has not yet been recorded, and there’s not enough time to record and edit the final segment to fit it into this friday.

I may be not well-informed or wrong, but recording a short 15 minutes video and then putting a Dev talking on green-screen, explaining what’s going on, in one place in the game, on two characters without any use of special effects, advanced editing would take me about an hour. During my studies we were recording similar things on monthly basis in less than that.
Sure, there’s a thing with green-screen, but it doesn’t even have to be one. Now, putting it together and editing was like one-two hours more maybe? On full-lazy mode and without much experience?

I think just recording 2 more professions and adding them to existing skillbar wouldn’t take even 3-4 hours for one guy who know’s what’s going on. It isn’t a montage, CGI or such thing.

If you can’t do this, just give us your script in .pdf and we will be perfectly cool. We don’t love Karl so much that we can only hear these news from him (although my friend made a point that his smile is adorable, she may like Balancing team more than me ).

Come on, some hint and understanding, all we want.

When I design things, I always think about possible counterplay and, especially regarding traits – what stats do I get when I go into specific line.

Blood Magic gives us Boon Duration (Thanks Muchacho ^^) and Healing Power. Now we lack boons in general and few we got are pretty bad, because our mechanic negates them.

Healing Power – We all can agree that it’s mostly crappy stuff for Necro himself. We have few healing possibilities and where some of them could be cool – Renewing Blast – they always lack something compared to other professions. On the other hand, we have mechanics based around active play with our DS – deathly Invigoration – which don’t play well with other healing methods (DI and RBlast, for example) and aren’t scaled with HP.

So what do we want to make? A trait that benefits from underperforming stats, like Boon Duration and Healing, is useful and worth picking regardless of build. It should have counterplay and it should perform good when we can play with it. So what do I propose?

Order of the Vampire
Passive. Your Retaliation now siphons health (1.x Base damage done value + Healing Power). When this boon is active, every time you lose more than 20% of total health from a single attack, siphon % of damage taken and heal your allies for the same amount. You cannot siphon larger amount than 50% of your total health. (X second ICD).

Now, let’s combine BM 1 and 3 point minors into one, 3 point minor.
New 1 point minor:

Order of Pain (X second ICD)
When you’re affected by condition, gain Retaliation (X seconds).

And possibly add some other sources of retaliation. Order of Pain would synergize quite cool with Corruptions, also.

My general aim with traits is to design them in a way that they’re good stand-alone choices, but synergize well with at least 1-3 other major traits in line.

What’s LB Ranger ?

As for Mesmer – for double sigil, I think they would have to trade energy one. And haven’t seen many doing that.

Only Thief can engage and blink on demand, 24/7. Of course, it costs initiative, but Sword #2 a d D/P #3 have almost no counters and practically, cannot fail. Even if they do, rinse repeat second later.
Only Thief can equip double proc sigils and just engage once their cds are up. And suffer no risk. Because he already has tons of evades and endless mobility.

I expect we’ll have larger variety of mobs in the second half of Season 2. Just like how in the first half of the personal story we had pretty much just Risen Thralls, Brutes, Grubs, and Abominations to act as our enemies, getting Risen Hyleks, Pirates , Krait, Quaggan and a few others as common mobs at the halfway point, then getting all our coral-infested friends, Drakes, Knights, Giants, etc. as common foes when we struck Orr.

First episode was the “Thrall, Brutes, Grubs, Abomination” phase; 2-4 was the “Hylek, Krait, Quaggan, Pirates” part; second half should include a larger variety.

If not, I shall be disappoint.

Even from the preview of the preview presented yesterday I cannot dig out any interesting changes incoming worth discussing.

There’s no word about changes to Death Shroud.
Nothing about minion AI.
No word about improving weapons in some significant way.
No word about Traits.
No word about group utility.

So I guess there’s just nothing exciting enough to discuss. Some tweaks here and there to utilities, okay I guess. But unless they bake some serious changes regarding Profession Mechanic/new PvE content where our abilities may be more useful than others’ ….

Keep expectations low, as always. I think they’re way too afraid of fixing Necromancer anyhow after “accident” year ago in July when they decided our condition builds needed a lot more damage.

Thief - combat mobility is too much

My opinion is just that combat mobility should be bound with cooldowns.

You want to gapclose? Sure thing, burn this cd, use that. If you fail, get countered or outplayed, sit there and eat punishment. Better luck next time.

The issue isn’t celestial, its the ease with which professions (like ele) can stack might without any realistic counterplay. Most might stacking is done without any interaction between you and the target; you can stack might just as effectively completely alone as you can against an enemy. This means that no matter what your enemy does, no matter what skills they avoid, you are stacking might. Pair this with how badly might is prioritized by boon removal abilities (for example, Corrupt Boon is the only Necromancer removal which will always remove might, every other removal has might in the bottom half of the list, meaning it will be incredibly rare to remove), and you end up having builds which can stack might without interacting with their enemy, and re-stack might extremely easily on the rare chance that it is removed.

What does this lead to? It leads to 0/0/2/6/6 builds being not just incredibly tanky and supporty due to celestial stats and their traits, but also able to still deal very high damage through relatively “free” stats via might. The obvious solution would be to nerf might stacking both directly, through forcing you to actually successfully interact with your opponent to build might, and indirectly through raising might to a reasonable priority on removal skills.

Might isn’t something bad for Ranger, to be honest. If you take FBond (which should’ve been baseline) your pet will also get these mightstacks and only in this scenario Ranger’s damage is increased compareably to increase on other professions (because of Ranger/Pet damage split).

We have Mighty Swap, Jungle Striker (as horrible as it is) and then sigil stacking might on crit (which isn’t a bad idea on shortbow/sword especially).

Sure, we lack mightstacking levels of facerolling D/D elementalist or Hambow, but it’s quite possible to maintain over 10-12 mightstacks over fight and keep pet nearly capped, around 20 might stacks (with Skirmishing Adept trait).
